Good morning. Welcome to All Saints

Fulham and a very happy Christmas to

0:00:320:00:37

you. We are in west London on the

northside of the River Thames at

0:00:370:00:42

Bonnybridge and there has been a

church on this site for over 900

0:00:420:00:46

years. Today, are packed to the

rafters as we wait to welcome you to

0:00:460:00:49

our Eucharist for Christmas morning.

-- at Putney bridge.

0:00:490:00:54

Grace and peace from God our Father,

and the Lord Jesus

0:03:010:03:03

Christ be with you.

0:03:030:03:05

ALL:

And also with you.

0:03:050:03:13

A very warm welcome to all and those

at home watching us this morning. We

0:03:130:03:18

gather for worship on this very

special day with a goodly sprinkling

0:03:180:03:23

of young shepherds and angels and

even one King, to mark the moment

0:03:230:03:29

when the heaven came down to earth

and God revealed himself as a babe

0:03:290:03:34

in a manger, born in a stable far

from home. As the story of Love

0:03:340:03:42

incarnate unfolds, so we come to the

table where bread and wine is

0:03:420:03:48

blessed, broken and shared, in

remembrance of Christ, who brings

0:03:480:03:54

light, hope and friendship to all

who believe and trust in him. And so

0:03:540:04:07

now, in awe of the newborn Christ

child, we open our hearts in

0:04:070:04:11

penitence and faith.

0:04:110:04:12

God our Father, you

sent your Son full of

0:04:120:04:14

grace and truth:

forgive our failure to

0:04:140:04:16

receive him.

0:04:160:04:18

Lord, have mercy.

0:04:180:04:21

ALL:

Lord, have mercy.

0:04:210:04:24

Jesus our Saviour,

you were born in poverty

0:04:240:04:28

and laid in a manger:

0:04:280:04:30

forgive our

greed and rejection of your ways.

0:04:300:04:35

Christ, have mercy.

0:04:350:04:37

ALL:

Christ, have mercy.

0:04:370:04:40

Spirit of Love, your servant

Mary responded joyfully

0:04:400:04:44

to your call: forgive the

hardness of our hearts.

0:04:440:04:50

Lord, have mercy.

0:04:500:04:52

ALL:

Lord, have mercy.

0:04:520:04:56

May the God of all

healing and forgiveness

0:04:560:04:58

draw you to himself,

that you may behold

0:04:580:05:01

the glory of his Son,

the Word made flesh,

0:05:010:05:06

and be cleansed from

all your sins, through

0:05:060:05:08

Jesus Christ our Lord.

0:05:080:05:11

ALL:

Amen.

0:08:570:09:17

Let us pray.

0:09:170:09:18

Almighty God, you have given

us your only-begotten

0:09:180:09:22

Son to take our nature upon him

and as at this time to be born of

0:09:220:09:26

a pure virgin.

0:09:260:09:28

Grant that we, who

have been born again

0:09:280:09:35

and made your children by adoption

and grace,

0:09:350:09:39

may daily be renewed

by your Holy Spirit:

0:09:390:09:44

through Jesus Christ your Son

our Lord, who is alive

0:09:440:09:46

and reigns with you, in

the unity of the Holy

0:09:460:09:49

Spirit, one God, now

and forever.

0:09:490:09:50

ALL:

Amen.

0:09:500:09:53

A reading from the Book of Isaiah.

0:10:030:10:05

The people who walked

in darkness have

0:10:050:10:07

seen a great light.

0:10:070:10:09

Those who lived in a

land of deep darkness,

0:10:090:10:11

on them light has shined.

0:10:110:10:14

For a child has been

born for us,

0:10:140:10:16

a son given to us.

0:10:160:10:20

Authority rests upon his

shoulders,

0:10:200:10:23

and he is named

wonderful Counsellor,

0:10:230:10:28

mighty God, everlasting

Father, Prince of Peace.

0:10:280:10:32

His authority shall

grow continually,

0:10:320:10:36

and there shall be endless

peace

0:10:360:10:38

for the throne

of David and his kingdom.

0:10:380:10:43

He will establish and

uphold it with justice

0:10:430:10:45

and with righteousness

0:10:450:10:47

from this time

onwards and for evermore.

0:10:470:10:51

The zeal of the Lord

of hosts will do this.

0:10:510:10:56

This is the word of the Lord.

0:10:560:10:59

ALL:

Thanks be to God.

0:10:590:11:02

# Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

0:14:280:14:38

# Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

0:14:390:14:49

Alleluia!

0:14:530:14:54

Alleluia!

0:14:540:14:55

We declare to you what

was from the beginning,

0:14:550:14:57

the Word who is life.

0:14:570:15:03

# Alleluia!

0:15:030:15:08

# Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!#

0:15:080:15:16

The Lord be with you.

0:15:180:15:19

ALL:

And also with you.

0:15:190:15:21

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus

Christ, according to Luke.

0:15:210:15:31

# Glory to you, O Lord.

0:15:320:15:38

In those days a decree went out from

Emperor Augustus that all the world

0:15:470:15:52

should be registered.

0:15:520:15:54

This was the first registration

and was taken while Quirinius

0:15:540:15:59

was governor of Syria.

0:15:590:16:02

All went to their own

towns to be registered.

0:16:020:16:06

Joseph also went from

the town of Nazareth

0:16:060:16:08

in Galilee to Judea,

to the city of David called

0:16:080:16:13

Bethlehem, because he

was descended from

0:16:130:16:17

the house and family

of David.

0:16:170:16:22

He went to be registered with Mary,

to whom he was engaged and who

0:16:220:16:27

was expecting a child.

0:16:270:16:31

While they were there,

the time came for

0:16:310:16:33

her to deliver her child.

0:16:330:16:37

And she gave birth to her firstborn

son and wrapped him in

0:16:370:16:42

bands of cloth, and

laid him in a manger,

0:16:420:16:46

because there was no place

for them in the inn.

0:16:460:16:50

In that region there

were shepherds living

0:16:500:16:54

in the fields, keeping

watch over their flock

0:16:540:16:56

by night.

0:16:560:17:01

Then an angel of the Lord

stood before them,

0:17:010:17:04

and the glory of the Lord shone

around them, and they

0:17:040:17:07

were terrified.

0:17:070:17:11

But the angel said to

them, Do not be afraid!

0:17:110:17:18

For see, I am bringing you good news

of great joy for all the people.

0:17:180:17:24

To you is born this day

in the city of David

0:17:240:17:29

a Saviour, who is

the Messiah, the Lord.

0:17:290:17:35

This will be a sign

for you: you will find a

0:17:350:17:37

child wrapped in bands

of cloth and lying

0:17:370:17:40

in a manger.

0:17:400:17:45

And suddenly there

was with the angel a

0:17:450:17:50

multitude of the heavenly

host, praising

0:17:500:17:51

God and saying, Glory to God

in the highest heaven,

0:17:510:17:55

and on earth peace among

those whom he favours!

0:17:550:18:05

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

0:18:060:18:13

# Praise to you, O Christ.

0:18:130:18:20

May I speak and may we hear, in the

name of the God of love that

0:19:080:19:13

creators, redeems us and sustains

us. Amen. Please sit down.

0:19:130:19:23

I'm not a parent myself. I have 12

wonderful godchildren. Not being a

0:19:230:19:32

parent I am also slightly filled

with trepidation when I take a

0:19:320:19:35

newborn baby in my arms. Trepidation

probably shared by the family will

0:19:350:19:39

hand the baby over to me. I wonder

how Ali is feeling now? Ali gave

0:19:390:19:45

birth to Theodora. And will, are

accurate, is the Father. Just a week

0:19:450:19:52

ago. And here she is sleeping

peacefully in her mother's arms. See

0:19:520:19:58

how long it lasts. Apparently there

is something hard-wired in our DNA

0:19:580:20:08

about learning how to protect a

child, particularly a newborn one.

0:20:080:20:14

Hold the head. For heaven's six,

don't drop them! But also, there

0:20:140:20:22

must be deeper questions that arise

in our hearts when we take on

0:20:220:20:25

parenting any kind. Are we grown up

enough to be responsible for this

0:20:250:20:30

new life? Are we selfless enough,

patient enough, resilient enough,

0:20:300:20:38

generous enough? Tireless enough? To

cope with the long sleepless nights

0:20:380:20:46

that will lie ahead of us. Perhaps

that is part of what God is

0:20:460:20:50

communicating to a us in the mystery

of Christmas. Perhaps it's an

0:20:500:20:55

invitation to be grown up enough, to

see a new way of loving, a new way

0:20:550:20:59

of receiving. It might be hard-wired

in our DNA to know how to protect a

0:20:590:21:08

child, but it's possibly also

hard-wired in us to look for the

0:21:080:21:12

most majestic, the most powerful,

the most mighty, and worship that.

0:21:120:21:19

And yet, what God says to us on

Christmas morning is, are you grown

0:21:190:21:25

up enough to be able to see me in

this, in all this vulnerable,

0:21:250:21:32

fragile and, oh yes, nappy filling

vulnerability? Not in the mighty,

0:21:320:21:40

not in the powerful, not in the

ground. But in all this tenderness,

0:21:400:21:45

this vulnerability, this crying,

hunger and need. Can you hold God in

0:21:450:21:52

your arms and on your heart? Because

that may be what we are being asked

0:21:520:21:59

in the Christmas mystery. And of

course vulnerability and need

0:21:590:22:03

doesn't just come in the form of a

human child. It comes in the form of

0:22:030:22:10

any in our society, the most

vulnerable and most are made. So

0:22:100:22:16

perhaps we are invited to refuse the

rhetoric of the publicly powerful

0:22:160:22:20

who might invite us to jaw up our

boundaries and barriers against

0:22:200:22:24

those we do not like or do not

trust. And instead to see a new kind

0:22:240:22:29

of loving, a new kind of loving

Sharon us in this vulnerable, holy

0:22:290:22:33

child. Because if we can see God in

this form, then we have to see God

0:22:330:22:41

in the form of every human life. And

particularly in the form of those

0:22:410:22:48

most in need and vulnerable. The

holy child of the stable 's birth

0:22:480:22:56

well, a few days after his birth,

have to take to the roads, fleeing

0:22:560:23:01

from Herod's murderous soldiers, to

find refuge in a foreign land. We're

0:23:010:23:09

trying to fulfil a bit of an

ambition at All Saints to sponsor a

0:23:090:23:13

refugee family from Syria in 2018.

Just one family. Part of the

0:23:130:23:20

government allocation of 5000

families. It's not much. But it's a

0:23:200:23:24

simple goal. How we make of a piece,

our worship and prayer week by week,

0:23:240:23:32

with action, to try and make God's

world a better place in some small

0:23:320:23:36

way. The child of the stables birth

turns the world upside down and

0:23:360:23:45

says, see God in this vulnerable

need, to hold and protect. So can

0:23:450:23:56

you see God in those vulnerable and

needy, who need our care and our

0:23:560:24:01

love? Whatever way you can find to

care and love today, tomorrow. To

0:24:010:24:10

hold them, nurture them and protect

them.

0:24:100:24:13

Amen. So we have a living family

here to celebrate. Many families.

0:24:130:24:29

But also, if you know anything about

the Spanish or Latin American

0:24:290:24:32

tradition of the Posada, a knitted

family of Mary and Joseph and the

0:24:320:24:38

donkey have been travelling around

our Paris, going from family to

0:24:380:24:42

family throughout Advent, spending a

night in houses, the family getting

0:24:420:24:48

the chance to be innkeepers. The

Carmels have been the last family to

0:24:480:24:54

receive the holy family of the

Posada. There are going to place

0:24:540:24:58

them in their grip on Christmas

morning.

and in which you live and grow.

0:29:120:29:18

Do you believe and trust

source of all being,

exist?

Do you believe and

0:29:350:29:38

Do you believe and trust

in the Holy Spirit,

0:29:380:29:41

who gives life to

the people of God, and

0:29:410:29:43

makes Christ known to the world?

0:29:430:29:46

ALL:

I believe and trust in him.

0:29:460:29:49

This is the faith of the Church.

0:29:490:29:52

ALL:

This is our faith.

0:29:520:29:54

We believe and trust

in one God,

0:29:540:29:56

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

0:29:560:30:00

Let us pray.

0:30:050:30:08

Jesus, whose mother

was Mary: we pray

0:30:140:30:18

for all those who celebrate

your birth today.

0:30:180:30:21

Lord Jesus.

ALL: Hear our prayer.

0:30:210:30:28

Jesus, born in the hours

of darkness,

0:30:280:30:33

we pray for those who long

for light to dawn.

0:30:330:30:36

Lord Jesus.

ALL: Hear our prayer.

0:30:360:30:41

Jesus, cradled in

a manger: we pray for

0:30:410:30:45

any who have no home

to call their own.

0:30:450:30:49

Lord Jesus,

ALL: Hear our prayer.

0:30:490:30:55

Jesus, worshipped by

shepherds and kings:

0:30:550:30:57

we pray for those people

who are working today.

0:30:570:31:00

Lord Jesus.

ALL: Hear our prayer.

0:31:000:31:10

Jesus, our Emmanuel: we pray

for all whom we know

0:31:130:31:15

to be in need of your strength

and consolation.

0:31:150:31:22

For the sick and the

troubled, the lonely

0:31:220:31:26

and bereft, for those

who are oppressed or

0:31:260:31:28

imprisoned.

0:31:280:31:31

Lord Jesus.

ALL: Hear our prayer.

0:31:310:31:38

Merciful Father.

0:31:380:31:39

ALL: Accept these

prayers for the sake of

0:31:390:31:41

your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

0:31:410:31:42

Amen.

0:31:420:31:46

Unto us a child is born,

0:32:030:32:07

unto us a son is given, and his name

shall be called

0:32:070:32:10

the Prince of Peace.

0:32:100:32:11

The peace of the Lord

be always with you.

0:32:110:32:13

ALL:

And also with you.

0:32:130:32:15

Let us offer one another

a sign of peace.

0:32:150:32:17

The Lord be with you.

ALL:

And also with you.

0:35:040:35:06

Lift up your hearts.

ALL:

We lift them to the Lord.

0:35:060:35:10

Let us give thanks

to the Lord our God.

0:35:100:35:12

ALL:

It is right to give

thanks and praise.

0:35:120:35:17

All glory and honour be

yours always and everywhere,

0:35:170:35:20

mighty creator, ever-living God.

0:35:200:35:24

We give you thanks and

praise for your Son,

0:35:240:35:27

our Saviour Jesus Christ:

0:35:270:35:30

who for love of our fallen

race humbled himself,

0:35:300:35:33

was born of the Virgin Mary

by the power of your Spirit,

0:35:330:35:36

and lived as one of us.

0:35:360:35:43

In this mystery of the Word made

flesh,

0:35:430:35:45

you have caused his light

to shine in our hearts,

0:35:450:35:48

to give knowledge of your glory

in the face of Jesus Christ.

0:35:480:35:53

In him we see our God made visible

0:35:530:35:57

and so are caught up in the love

of the God we cannot see.

0:35:570:36:05

Therefore, with all the angels

of heaven, we lift our voices

0:36:050:36:09

to proclaim the glory of your name

and sing our joyful hymn of praise.

# Hosanna in excelsis

0:37:510:37:56

Lord, you are holy indeed,

0:38:040:38:05

the source of all holiness.

0:38:050:38:07

Grant that by the power

of your Holy Spirit,

0:38:070:38:09

and according to your holy will,

0:38:090:38:13

these gifts of bread

and wine may be to us

0:38:130:38:18

the body and blood

of our Lord Jesus Christ.

0:38:180:38:21

Who, in the same night

that he was betrayed,

0:38:210:38:23

took bread, and gave you thanks.

0:38:230:38:25

He broke it, and gave it

to his disciples, saying:

0:38:250:38:28

Take, eat.

0:38:280:38:31

This is my body,

which is given for you.

0:38:310:38:34

Do this in remembrance of me.

0:38:340:38:38

In the same way,

0:38:500:38:52

after supper he took the

cup, and gave you thanks.

0:38:520:38:58

He gave it to them, saying:

Drink this, all of you.

0:38:580:39:02

This is my blood

of the new covenant,

0:39:020:39:05

which is shed for you,

and for many,

0:39:050:39:07

for the forgiveness of sins.

0:39:070:39:09

Do this, as often

as you drink it,

0:39:090:39:11

in remembrance of me.

0:39:110:39:14

Great is the mystery of faith.

0:39:270:39:36

# Christ has died, Christ is risen,

0:39:360:39:40

# Christ will come again #.

0:39:400:39:44

And so, Father, calling

to mind his death

0:39:440:39:48

on the cross, his

perfect sacrifice

0:39:480:39:51

made once for the sins

of the whole world:

0:39:510:39:53

rejoicing in his mighty

resurrection

0:39:530:39:55

and glorious ascension,

0:39:550:39:58

and looking for his

coming in glory,

0:39:580:40:00

we celebrate this

memorial of our redemption.

0:40:000:40:05

As we offer you this

our sacrifice of praise

0:40:050:40:08

and thanksgiving,

0:40:080:40:12

we bring before you this

bread and this cup:

0:40:120:40:15

and we thank

you for counting us worthy

0:40:150:40:16

to stand in your

presence and serve you.

0:40:160:40:18

Send the Holy Spirit

on your people

0:40:180:40:22

all who

0:40:220:40:24

and gather into one in

your kingdom

0:40:240:40:27

all who share this one bread

and one cup: so that

0:40:270:40:29

we, in the company

of all the saints, may

0:40:290:40:32

praise and glorify you for ever:

0:40:320:40:35

through Jesus Christ

our Lord, by whom,

0:40:350:40:38

and with whom, and in

whom, in the unity

0:40:380:40:40

of the Holy Spirit,

all honour and glory be

0:40:400:40:44

yours, almighty Father,

for ever and ever.

0:40:440:40:48

ALL:

Amen.

0:40:480:40:51

Let us pray in confidence

as our Saviour taught us.

0:41:180:41:23

Our Father, who are in heaven,

hallowed be thy name,

0:41:230:41:27

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done

0:41:270:41:30

on earth as it is in heaven.

0:41:300:41:33

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

0:41:330:41:38

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

0:41:380:41:42

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

0:41:420:41:46

For thine is the kingdom,

the power and the glory,

0:41:460:41:50

for ever and ever.

0:41:500:41:53

Amen.

0:41:530:41:56

We break this bread to share

in the body of Christ.

0:41:560:42:02

ALL:

Though we are many,

we are one body,

0:42:020:42:06

because we all share in one bread.

0:42:060:42:10

# Lord, I am not worthy

to receive you

0:42:280:42:37

# But only say the word

and I shall be healed

0:42:370:42:46

# Jesus is the Lamb of God

0:42:460:42:53

# Who takes away

the sins of the world

0:42:530:43:03

# But only say the word

and I shall be healed

0:43:040:43:09

# Happy are those who are

called to his supper #.

0:43:090:43:16

# Lord, I am not worthy

to receive you

0:43:180:43:22

# But only say the word

and I shall be healed

0:43:220:43:32

The gifts of God for

the people of God.

0:43:370:43:42

ALL:

Jesus Christ is holy,

Jesus Christ is Lord,

0:43:420:43:45

to the glory of God the Father.

0:43:450:43:49

# Tomorrow shall be my dancing day,

0:44:060:44:09

# I would my true love did so chance

0:44:090:44:12

# To see the legend of my play,

0:44:120:44:17

# To call my true love to my dance

0:44:170:44:19

# Sing, oh, My love

0:44:190:44:21

# oh, My love

0:44:210:44:24

# This have I done for my true love

0:44:240:44:29

# Sing oh, My love

0:44:320:44:33

# Sing oh, My love

0:44:340:44:35

# Sing oh, My love

0:44:350:44:37

# Sing oh, My love

0:44:370:44:40

# Then was I born of a virgin pure,

0:44:410:44:44

# Of her I took fleshly substance

0:44:440:44:47

# Thus was I knit to man's nature

0:44:470:44:50

# To call my true love to my dance

0:44:500:44:52

# Sing, oh, My love,

0:44:520:44:55

# Oh, My love,

0:44:550:44:57

0:45:030:45:06

# Sing, oh, My love

0:45:060:45:08

# Sing, oh, My love

0:45:080:45:09

# Sing, oh, My love

0:45:100:45:12

# Sing

0:45:140:45:15

# In a manger laid, and wrapped

0:45:150:45:17

# I was so very poor,

0:45:170:45:19

# This was my chance

0:45:190:45:20

# Between an ox and a silly poor ass

0:45:200:45:23

# To call my true love to my dance

0:45:230:45:26

# Sing, oh, My love,

0:45:260:45:29

# Oh, My love,

0:45:290:45:32

# This have I done for my true love

0:45:320:45:36

# Sing, oh, My love,

0:45:360:45:38

# Sing, oh, My love,

0:45:390:45:40

# Sing, oh, My love,

0:45:420:45:44

# Sing, oh, My love,

0:45:440:45:47

# Sing

0:45:470:45:48

# Tomorrow shall be my dancing day,

0:45:480:45:50

# I would my true love did so chance

0:45:500:45:54

# To see the legend of my play,

0:45:540:45:57

0:46:130:46:18

# This have I done for my true love

0:46:180:46:24

# Sing, oh, My love

0:46:240:46:25

# Sing, oh, My love

0:46:250:46:30

# Away in a manger

0:46:560:47:00

# No crib for a bed

0:47:000:47:05

# The little Lord Jesus

0:47:050:47:09

# Laid down His sweet head

0:47:090:47:14

# The stars in the bright sky

0:47:140:47:19

# Looked down where He lay

0:47:190:47:23

# The little Lord Jesus

0:47:230:47:28

# Asleep on the hay

0:47:280:47:36

# The cattle are lowing

0:47:410:47:44

# The baby awakes

0:47:440:47:49

# But little Lord Jesus

0:47:490:47:54

# No crying He makes

0:47:540:47:59

# I love Thee, Lord Jesus

0:47:590:48:04

# Look down from the sky

0:48:040:48:09

# And stay by my side

0:48:090:48:13

# Until morning is nigh

0:48:130:48:21

# Be near me, Lord Jesus

0:48:260:48:29

# I ask Thee to stay

0:48:290:48:35

# Close by me forever

0:48:350:48:39

# And love me, I pray

0:48:390:48:45

# Bless all the dear children

0:48:450:48:48

# In Thy tender care

0:48:480:48:54

# And fit us for heaven

0:48:540:48:58

# To live with Thee there. #

0:48:580:49:08

Let us prey.

0:51:180:51:19

God our Father, whose

Word has come among us

0:51:300:51:32

in the Holy Child of Bethlehem:

may the light of faith

0:51:320:51:35

illumine our hearts and shine

in our words and deeds,

0:51:350:51:37

through him who is Christ the Lord.

0:51:370:51:40

ALL:

Amen.

0:51:400:51:42

Son of Mary, Son of God,

may we who have joined

0:51:420:51:45

the worship of the angels never lose

that heavenly vision.

0:51:450:51:47

May we who, like the shepherds,

have seen in your birth

0:51:470:51:50

a new kind of love, show that love

in our lives, to your

0:51:500:51:58

praise and glory forever and ever.

0:51:580:52:04

Amen.

0:52:040:52:07

May the joy of the angels,

the eagerness of the shepherds:

0:56:370:56:41

the perseverance of the wise men,

the obedience of Mary and Joseph,

0:56:410:56:47

and the peace of the Christ child,

be yours this Christmas:

0:56:470:56:52

and the blessing of God Almighty,

the Father, the Son,

0:56:520:56:55

and the Holy Spirit,

be among you, and remain

0:56:550:56:59

with you always.

0:56:590:57:02

ALL:

Amen.

0:57:020:57:04

Go in peace to love

and serve the Lord.

0:57:040:57:07

ALL:

In the name of Christ.

0:57:070:57:09

Amen.
