on where you are it smells like... Joy. You don't want to know. The

smell of funk. What does Glastonbury smell of? Beautiful people covered

in... Welcome back to the first night of

our Glastonbury coverage and as you join us to paraphrase the Specials

this festival is coming like a Ghost Town. It's quite quiet behind us.

It's only one place that people are? A quiet scene at the park. Everybody

is at the Pyramid Stage. Sometimes you get one performance that gets

the attention. You focus in on it. 20 years since we were here for a

wet one with Radiohead, they're back. The opposite of this year

weather wise. They certainly are. This set has been going for a little

while. We're going to be rewinding time and bringing it to you from the

beginning. Before we get, there let's turn back the clock again.

They went on half an hour ago, before we see that, the full

performance, let's look at a potted history of thissess teemed

Oxfordshire band. From pop grunge perfection to

sublime electrosound escapes, since getting together in 1985, Radiohead

have become one of the most extraordinary live bands on the

planet.? -- planet. Tonight they're headlining for the third time. The

Quinn Ted have a unique history at Worthy Farm. It's the mother of all

festivals really, Glastonbury. We've grown up with it. We grew up going

to it. It was and is still the biggest show you'll do. Their first

appearance was back in 1994. Sandwiched between I think oasis and

Blur. What happened this them? Did they do anything after that? Yeah.

Yeah. The undeniable power of that first show was just a prelude to

their headline set three years later, shortly after the release of

album OK Computer. We were bricking. It Yeah, yeah,

that's my memory. That would be probably the right term technology.

I do remember just that real sense of impoter syndrome, they can't be

serious, us doing the Saturday night? It was very wet, muddy.

Rain-o-head. On top of the wrath of Mother Nature, band be we set by

technical difficulties. Neck nickically it was a -- technically

it was a disaster. Tom came over me and said, "I'm going off after the

next song." I remember coming off and thinking we probably had done

one of our worst shows ever. Thankfully Tom stuck around. It

turned out to be one of the greatest nights in Glastonbury history.

Radiohead played the top slot again in 2003. And did a secret gig at the

park in to 11. But 20 years since their water shed 1997 show, they're

back to headline the Pyramid Stage. It's the greatest festival. It's the

one where you leave on a Monday and you have your faith restored in

they play and those songs. I could not fault that prnks. It meant the

-- performance. It meant the most to them as well. They constructed how

that went together. You could see how much it meant to them. Loved it.

I don't care about people who didn't. I think that Radiohead at

Glastonbury, if they had just done the hits, I would have been

disappointed with that. You want a surprise in the set list. My

favourite song tonight was Nude. It was stew pen does. It isn't one of

the biggest songs. If you don't like Radiohead, you will see something

else. Which is what my children did in the end. Getting some reviews

coming through. We're doing the late shift tonight. It's Joe and Mark and

we're bringing you lots of things. Lots of the highlights of the day.

It just never gets boring, watching him do that thing. The first time I

saw it was at Glastonbury festival, just spellbound. And still to this

day, Flaming Lips, and that was their version of Space Oddity. We

are not far from some Anderson pack. Sleaford Mods as well.

Didn't you share a car with when Coyle as well? So there is loads of

stuff happening here apart from the bands on the main stages. Our friend

Yasser has been out and about, investigating ten years of Glasto

Latino. I've been to the Glade and now I'm

in Glasto Latino. Alison is with me. What is going on? What is happening?

This is Glasto Latino, one of the hottest spots on site. This is where

you get Latin music at its best. It's one thing that we can add to

the festival that adds spice, passion and flavour. I love it. The

energy is electric in here. How long have you been going for? This is our

tenth anniversary. We've got the best bands ever. These guys are from

Panama. They play Cuban music. Wow. You had to bring themming over to

Glastonbury -- them. What has the reception been from people over ten

years? Fantastic. Listen, I can't help but move my hips. I think we

have to dance. It's the only way now. Shall we go in? OK.

That's the great thing. There are so many things happening. People are

having their own little festival without going near Radiohead or

anything else. There's a club down here calling funkingham Palace,

where people have to go in on their hands and knees. We should go in

there. That's a date. Can you see here, a lot of the stages have

closed down, the party - not a party, people are still having fun.

funny thing with them was if you can imagine this, we had Elbow as the

surprise guests earlier on. It was beautiful and the mood was magical

and it was gorgeous. Flaming Lips were going to come on and then

Sleaford MoDs came on, great. They cast their own spell. Introduced by

Lord bucket head who stood against Theresa May in the Maidenhead

election. Great. So much going on. I went across to see a bit of Flaming

Lips. I was distracted into a little stage I didn't know existed. There

was a great band from Northern Ireland. They were new to me called

Ruse. Rews. They Ireland. They were new to me called

Ruse. Rews. ewanted to call them fuse and troos, but Rews. James went

out to this magical area called the common and he met with Victoria clip

slayer. -- Sinclair. They're exploring the link between rave

culture and chezmanism. Creator Bob, give us strength. Use

this medicine to help unify us and see things to enlighten us. If we

all just take a sip together, invite the medicine into your body, into

your spirit. It is surprisingly chunky, but I am feeling a little

pepped up. What is in it? There are ceremonial Krakow from the Amazon,

then some medicines and summer mead, a ancient drink. Whenever I drink

this medicine, I definitely felt a connection to my ancestors back

home. I think the cacao is kicking in. Where are we going now? To the

temple. What do you do, Sue? I'm a razor. We need the vibes. We are a

massive family. What can we expect from this place behind me? This is a

techno- shaman paradise. There is a thing about repetitive beats that

the rave culture has, and the shamanic drumming of the journeying

is very similar. The beats per minute are very similar. The spirit

that the tribal elders get into, where they commune with nature, is

similar to these trancelike state that people have been evolving into

at raves. When you're in the rave and the crescendo is coming up,

described that to me. Orgasm! Let's get in there.

There is a lot of energy this year. I have definitely found my spiritual

side. Now I am just going to get lost in the beat.

So there you go, all explained, the hitherto unsuspected link between

ancient shaman is and rave culture. So now we know. You know those

shopping channels you watch late into the night? That is what this is

now. So we are showing over 100, although you can choose from 100

the performances this afternoon was when Lorde was playing on The Other

Stage. Quite an interesting performance. I don't know whether we

have captured the dancers. Hopefully, we have.

And there were the dance verse, as I said, captured in those boxes. She

is so good. Her album is out now. This is her first Glastonbury. What

a great talent. Very charismatic performer. A smart woman. That was

Lorde. It is the year of the onesie, isn't it? I know. People are

singalong passionately. There is a lot of joy in the crowds, and it is

a very bouncy atmosphere. Everybody has been dealing with a lot of dark

stuff, and that is the joy of Glastonbury. You leave the world

behind. Hopefully, you can enter our bubble for this weekend and enjoy

the music. I think you will enjoy this. These guys are amazing. We

Apple lead singers in the same band. They are from Boston. Go see them.

They have a few dates coming up in London shortly. They are darling

praying for, it it's been a long time coming. It wouldn't be

think so. Probably. Let's go back to something earlier, this was the band

who played on the main stage ahead of Radiohead. This is such a spell

binding, wonderful performance, it is the XX, I'm sure you're going to

love this. In front of people watching this, I was, they said, I

love these guys. They're one of my favourite bands are. They called the

STUDIO: I thought that was a moment for them today. I mean, there is

something about the XX, they just feel so now - they feel what is a
