Django Django and their Django Django album. Now we're going to

:14:41.:14:45.

chat to a man over here that you have to have huge respect for

:14:45.:14:48.

because as well as being a successful musician, he's really

:14:48.:14:56.

broken into the world of film on his own terms. Now, let's welcome

:14:56.:14:57.

Plan B. APPLAUSE

:14:57.:15:01.

And one of the stars of the film. Nice to see you now. First of all,

:15:01.:15:04.

let's go back. What was the first film that you wanted to make?

:15:04.:15:08.

Because you have made this film now, but what was the first film?

:15:09.:15:13.

wrote a film in my head when I couldn't get to sleep. It was based

:15:13.:15:17.

on - my house got raided by police because the police thought we had a

:15:17.:15:22.

real gun. We had a toy gun. I wrote a film about it. I posted it to the

:15:22.:15:26.

film company. They said, we love it. We want to give you a budget of a

:15:26.:15:33.

million pounds. Great. Did you do it? No, because they asked who I

:15:33.:15:38.

wanted to direct it? I said me. I had to prove that I could direct. I

:15:38.:15:44.

took the last four grand I had from the recording in advance, put it

:15:44.:15:49.

into the pilot for the feature film I just shot. It's amazing because

:15:49.:15:52.

it's very difficult to make a feature film these days, and you

:15:52.:15:55.

have managed to do that what is the story of Ill Manors? It's six

:15:55.:15:59.

stories, isn't it, really? It's kind of like all the stuff you read

:15:59.:16:04.

in the newspaper, like, all the mindless crimes that happen for me

:16:04.:16:08.

that newspapers - they never write about why they happen, just that

:16:08.:16:12.

they happen. For me, I am always interested in getting to the root

:16:12.:16:16.

of the problem, not why someone committed a crime, but why their

:16:16.:16:19.

mind thinks in that way anyway, you know, what happened to them in the

:16:19.:16:24.

past, you know? A lot of our issues stem from our childhood, and Ill

:16:24.:16:32.

Manors kind of - it kind of - it definitely shows that. When you

:16:32.:16:36.

watch the film, we tell back stories going right back to when

:16:36.:16:39.

people are kids in the film. The only way we can do that is the

:16:39.:16:44.

musical element of it. Parts of the film are told through music videos.

:16:44.:16:48.

Let's have a look at a little bit of it, shall we?

:16:48.:16:58.
:16:58.:17:04.

# Boy, I said boy # What you looking at? You little

:17:04.:17:08.

rich boy # Open the door

:17:08.:17:14.

# Don't come round here no more # You looking for a thrill

:17:14.:17:24.
:17:24.:17:29.

Ill Manors - just a glimpse of that film there and quite a dark-looking

:17:29.:17:33.

film, but there is a positive side to it. I think if you can

:17:33.:17:36.

understand why negative things happen more, then it's easier to

:17:36.:17:40.

find a solution to prevent them in the future. I think if we don't

:17:40.:17:44.

educate ourselves about why things happen, then the only thing we can

:17:44.:17:48.

do to these people is punish them, you know? And we can't learn from

:17:48.:17:52.

it or make, you know, the younger generations learn from what they've

:17:52.:17:59.

done, you know? Where did you get the actors and the crew for all the

:17:59.:18:06.

film? Ed. Hey! Me and Ed - Ed actually got me into rapping. How

:18:06.:18:12.

long have we known each other? Three, four years. He started out

:18:12.:18:16.

me rapping. I knew he could do it, so I asked him. You went around to

:18:16.:18:22.

schools and got people to work as actors and on the crew. Yeah, I

:18:22.:18:25.

specifically targeted underprivileged kids in poorer

:18:25.:18:29.

schools because those were the kind of kids I was looking for. I was

:18:29.:18:33.

looking for 13 to 14-year-old kids. I needed the real deal. Some of the

:18:33.:18:39.

kids that didn't make it in the film - because not everybody has an

:18:40.:18:43.

obvious talent in acting. There are other things they could do. We gave

:18:43.:18:48.

them runner jobs. By making the film, they have a greater sense of

:18:48.:18:52.

purpose. And to get an opportunity to get an understanding of a

:18:52.:18:55.

different sort of world. As well as being the writer and director of

:18:55.:19:01.

the film, you're starring in a film yourself - a remake - or a feture

:19:01.:19:06.

film of the Sweeney. It's a proper London gangster film, isn't it?

:19:06.:19:16.
:19:16.:19:17.

Yeah, it's Nick Love's version of the Sweeney. It's me and Nick. He's

:19:17.:19:22.

an idol of mine. He took me under his wing. Do you go screaming

:19:22.:19:28.

around London in Grenadas? we're driving a Focus. Not a

:19:28.:19:33.

Woolsly or a Grenada? No, that was the thing. I think we would have

:19:34.:19:38.

shot ourselves in the foot if we tried to set it in the '70s. I

:19:38.:19:42.

think it was the right move... Thank you very much for joining us,

:19:42.:19:46.

and Ed. We look forward to seeing you in a moment. Thank you very

:19:46.:19:54.

much, Plan B. And now so delighted to have back in this room the

:19:54.:20:04.
:20:04.:20:26.

sensational talent that is Melody # The felicidad

:20:26.:20:36.
:20:36.:20:50.

# And if in the world # Mira

:20:50.:21:00.
:21:00.:21:09.

# In all that I've seen # In every smile there's a trace

:21:09.:21:19.
:21:19.:21:19.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:21:19.:22:16.

# Mira, this is such a lovely way # Mira, this is such a lovely way

:22:16.:22:26.
:22:26.:22:26.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:22:26.:24:52.

Absolutely fantastic, the marvellous Melody Gardot. We'll be

:24:52.:24:57.

hearing more from her Absence album later, and now also incredible

:24:57.:25:02.

guest - one of the greatest singers of all time, yes, who stayed at the

:25:02.:25:06.

top of music because he's always reinventing and finding something

:25:06.:25:12.

new. I am delighted now to record a man who is about to have a superb

:25:13.:25:16.

new record come out. Please welcome the wonderful Tom Jones.

:25:16.:25:26.
:25:26.:25:42.

# Well, my friends are gone # I ache in the places

:25:42.:25:45.

# And I'm crazy for love But I'm not coming on

:25:45.:25:51.

# I'm just paying my rent every day Oh, in the Tower of Song

:25:51.:26:01.
:26:01.:26:01.

# I said to Hank Williams How lonely does it get?

:26:01.:26:07.

# Hank Williams hasn't answered me yet

:26:07.:26:12.

# But I hear him coughing all night long

:26:12.:26:17.

# A hundred floors above me In the Tower of Song

:26:17.:26:27.
:26:27.:26:27.

# I was born like this I had no choice

:26:27.:26:31.

# I was born with the gift of a golden voice

:26:31.:26:36.

# And 27 angels from the great beyond

:26:36.:26:41.

# They tied me to this stage right here

:26:42.:26:46.

# In the Tower of Song

:26:46.:26:51.

# So you can stick your little pins in that voodoo doll

:26:51.:26:55.

# I'm very sorry, baby Doesn't look like me at all

:26:55.:27:00.

# I'm standing by the window Where the light is strong

:27:00.:27:08.

# They don't let women kill you Not here in the Tower of Song

:27:08.:27:17.

# Now you can say that I've grown bitter

:27:17.:27:27.
:27:27.:27:42.

# Now you can say that I've grown bitter

:27:42.:27:46.

# But of this you may be sure

:27:46.:27:48.

# The rich have got their channels in the bedrooms of the poor

:27:48.:27:49.

# And there's a mighty judgement coming, baby

:27:49.:27:52.

# But I may be wrongYou see, you hear these funny voices

:27:52.:27:58.

# In the Tower of Song

:27:58.:28:07.

# I see you standing on the other side

:28:08.:28:10.

# I don't know how the river got so wide

:28:10.:28:13.

# I loved you baby, way back when

:28:13.:28:22.

# And all the bridges are burning that we might have crossed

:28:22.:28:26.

# And I feel so close to everything we lost

:28:26.:28:30.

# We'll never have to lose it again

:28:30.:28:39.

# I bid you farewell I don't know when I'll be back

:28:39.:28:43.

# They're moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track

:28:43.:28:45.

# And you'll be hearing from me Baby, long after I'm gone

:28:45.:28:50.

# I'll be speaking to you sweetly

:28:50.:28:56.

# From a window in the Tower of Song. #

:28:56.:29:06.
:29:06.:29:14.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:29:14.:29:24.
:29:24.:29:32.

#

:29:32.:29:33.

# There's

:29:33.:29:33.

# There's no

:29:33.:29:38.

# There's no way back from here # Oh, no

:29:38.:29:48.
:29:48.:29:49.

# Only one place left to go # One place left to go now

:29:49.:29:58.

# Crashing like an aeroplane # From the sky in the storming rain

:29:58.:30:07.

# The pilot is plying without aim # He goes up in flames

:30:07.:30:15.

# Paid the price for her mistakes # Because she only has herself to

:30:15.:30:18.

blame # And it's her that is the deepest

:30:18.:30:22.

shame # There's no way back from here

:30:22.:30:29.

# Oh, no. # Only one place left to go

:30:29.:30:37.

# One place left to go - down # She was once a Princess, but now

:30:37.:30:42.

she's a mess # Soliciting sex for much less

:30:42.:30:46.

# But in the day # Abused in the child

:30:46.:30:49.

# She was always going to end up this way

:30:49.:30:53.

# Took away the pain # So she hit the flames

:30:53.:30:57.

# Once again # She's on the game

:30:58.:31:01.

# Only herself to blame snow she sells herself

:31:02.:31:04.

# There is a million other girls like Michelle

:31:04.:31:07.

# Out on the streets # Selling themselves

:31:07.:31:10.

# So - # Age no way back from here

:31:10.:31:17.

# Oh, no # Only place left to go

:31:17.:31:25.

# One place left to go - down # There is no way back from here

:31:25.:31:32.

# Oh, no # Only one place left to go

:31:32.:31:42.
:31:42.:31:42.

# One place left to go - down. # I have been working on that road

:31:42.:31:47.

for so long now # I just can't tell if there's

:31:47.:31:53.

# Any way back the way I came # Oh, I've lost myself

:31:53.:31:57.

# In the deepest shame # I have been dragging myself

:31:57.:32:01.

# To the lowest low # For such a while

:32:01.:32:06.

# I just don't know # That pain is something I can't

:32:06.:32:08.

change # One thing that's in my way

:32:08.:32:13.

# Is the deepest shame # There's no way back from here

:32:13.:32:20.

# Oh, no # Only one place left to go

:32:20.:32:29.

# One place left to go now. # There's no way back from here

:32:29.:32:34.

# There's no way, no way, no way # Back from here

:32:34.:32:40.

# Only one place left to go # Only one way - only one way

:32:40.:32:46.

# Left to go - down # There's no way back from here

:32:46.:32:56.
:32:56.:33:15.

# Oh, no, oh, no. Before that, the amazing Tom Jones,

:33:15.:33:19.

the best version of that song I have ever heard. Tom Jones, let's

:33:19.:33:23.

hear it for him, everyone. Yes. Wonderful to have him back in here.

:33:23.:33:26.

There's a lot of lovely people in the room this evening - lots of

:33:27.:33:31.

mixes of stuff I am delighted to say, so now I think we need to get

:33:31.:33:36.

a nice modern version of blue grass music, and who better to do that

:33:36.:33:46.
:33:46.:33:54.

# Did he ever live # For a thing

:33:54.:34:04.

# But the thrill of movement Punch Brothers, Movement and

:37:21.:37:29.

Location. So now I am going to go to the piano and see a dear friend,

:37:29.:37:33.

but a man who always comes up with something brilliant and new when he

:37:33.:37:38.

records, and he has a brand new record out now. Welcome Tom Jones.

:37:39.:37:44.

Oh, well, first of all, I loved your new record. Tower of Song -

:37:45.:37:48.

that songs like it was written for you. Yeah, well, you know, my

:37:48.:37:52.

friends are gone. My hair is grey. It's the truth. You'll be singing

:37:52.:37:56.

from the Tower of Song... Exactly. It's a great record. Your last

:37:56.:38:01.

record, there was a lot of blues, gospel music. Have you gone to a

:38:01.:38:07.

similar... Yeah, Ethan Johns produced it. We did it in a box in

:38:07.:38:16.

Wiltshire. Did it in a box?! the name of the city is Box in

:38:16.:38:22.

Wiltshire. Peter Gabrielle? That's right. We did the first one, then

:38:22.:38:25.

thought, maybe lightning will strike twice. Can we do something

:38:25.:38:31.

from it? What can we do? There is one called Travelling Shoes. I

:38:31.:38:41.

think that would be good with the # Death went down

:38:41.:38:51.
:38:51.:38:57.

# Sinner cried out # The sinner cried out

:38:57.:39:07.
:39:07.:39:17.

# And then Death went down # The gambler cried out

:39:17.:39:27.
:39:27.:39:48.

# The gambler cried out # And then Death went down

:39:48.:39:58.
:39:58.:40:04.

# The preacher cried out # The preacher cried out

:40:04.:40:14.
:40:14.:40:40.

All right. APPLAUSE

:40:47.:40:54.

APPLAUSE And now let's enjoy another

:40:54.:40:58.

wonderful voice from Salford, that dirty old town, which we've already

:40:58.:41:08.
:41:08.:41:13.

# Why don't you tell me # I'll tell you where it is

:41:13.:41:20.

# Don't think I don't know so much about you, boy

:41:20.:41:24.

# Just because I never came undone on your hook

:41:24.:41:31.

# You can play like it's some kind of game

:41:31.:41:38.

# And everyone you ever needed will get a page in your book

:41:38.:41:43.

# Yeah, but how many times do I have to tell you, sweetheart

:41:43.:41:47.

# Just what it took?

:41:47.:41:52.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:41:52.:41:59.

# Yeah, if you'd only do right by me

:42:00.:42:05.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:42:05.:42:09.

# Then I'll do all right by you

:42:09.:42:19.
:42:19.:42:27.

# Once you held a candle in the palm of your hand

:42:27.:42:31.

# It helped you light your way down to the coast

:42:32.:42:40.

# It brought you shelter from the howling night

:42:40.:42:42.

# Just when you needed it the most

:42:43.:42:49.

# You can make out you only get as lost as you please

:42:49.:42:54.

# And that you like the way it feels when you feel just like a ghost

:42:54.:43:00.

# How many times you gonna play this scene out

:43:00.:43:04.

# When you know the way it goes?

:43:04.:43:10.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:43:11.:43:19.

# Yeah, if you'd only do right by me

:43:19.:43:22.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:43:22.:43:29.

# Then I'll do all right by you

:43:29.:43:36.

# Saw you smile when you thought you had crossed the line

:43:36.:43:41.

# Only to realise you'd never left the start

:43:41.:43:46.

# Well, I know you won't admit it, baby

:43:46.:43:50.

# But I can see it's breaking your heart

:43:50.:43:55.

# Yeah, if you'd only do right by me

:43:55.:44:02.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:44:02.:44:09.

# Yeah, if you'd only do right by me

:44:09.:44:14.

# Then I'll do all right by you

:44:14.:44:22.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:44:22.:44:27.

# If you'd only do right by me

:44:27.:44:31.

# Well, if you'd only do right by me

:44:31.:44:36.

# Then I'll do all right by you. #

Look around you, this manor All you can see

:59:00.:59:02.

Is ill-manored people Ill-manored in the illest manor

:59:02.:59:04.

Person you've ever met in your manor

:59:04.:59:06.

But are likely to meet in any manor

:59:06.:59:07.

Cos this man is deep, he judge them on the life that they lead

:59:08.:59:10.

But then it isn't always as black and white as it seems

:59:10.:59:12.

They're born in some way enslaved in the circumstance

:59:12.:59:14.

Shape the way they behave when they're out on the street

:59:14.:59:17.

That's why... These kids, they got no hope

:59:17.:59:19.

Walking' round their estates Thinkin', "This is it"

:59:19.:59:21.

They ain't never gettin' out and it's no joke

:59:21.:59:23.

Probably is gonna be the best their lives ever gonna get

:59:23.:59:25.

They don't believe they can succeed

:59:25.:59:27.

All the opportunities you say are out there really exist

:59:27.:59:29.

Cos they've been told every day from the minute they were born

:59:29.:59:32.

By the messed-up parents That they ain't it

:59:32.:59:34.

Mum and dad never made nothin'' of themselves

:59:34.:59:37.

Nah, so how the hell are they gonna?

:59:37.:59:39.

School's a waste of time They're only gonna fail

:59:39.:59:40.

Older brother went jail Why ain't they gonna?

:59:41.:59:43.

I mean, they hang with buds and sell drugs

:59:43.:59:44.

They ain't afraid to put a slug in you if you say somethin'

:59:44.:59:46.

They know that way You don't care either way

:59:46.:59:48.

To you, they're all the same Just a bunch of...

:59:48.:59:51.

Used to the rap every day Workin' for the devil's pay

:59:51.:59:53.

The young souls that went astray Listen and you hear them say...

:59:53.:59:59.

# Lost my way Lost my way

:59:59.:59:59.

# Fell down a hole Fell down a hole

:00:00.:00:01.

# No-one's gonna come No-one's gonna come

:00:01.:00:02.

# And save my soul And save my soul

:00:02.:00:04.

# Lost my way Lost my way

:00:04.:00:06.

# No going back No going back

:00:06.:00:08.

# I'm stuck right here I'm stuck right here

:00:08.:00:10.

# And that is that And that is that. #

:00:10.:00:19.

God said, "Let there be light" Created Adam and Eve

:00:19.:00:21.

Then he gave them eyes and told 'em both to believe

:00:21.:00:23.

In somethin' they would never actually physically see

:00:23.:00:25.

The devil came along and planted a seed

:00:25.:00:27.

And doubt started growing from the ground outta trees

:00:27.:00:29.

Right up to the skies To confound the scene

:00:29.:00:31.

To be the only thing in this life that wasn't a dream

:00:31.:00:35.

Council blocks, finding me Skies everybody could see

:00:35.:00:40.

Some birds in cages will never be free

:00:40.:00:42.

And gradually people began to change their beliefs

:00:42.:00:44.

Till God was nothin' more than a fictional being

:00:44.:00:46.

They worship for money Murder, all kinds of greed

:00:46.:00:49.

Once religion was only driven by greed

:00:49.:00:54.

On the television and the ad breaks in-between

:00:54.:00:55.

Till people only cared about material things

:00:55.:00:56.

And not the lives of other fellow human beings

:00:56.:00:58.

I know I'm guilty of it too And so it seems, you know...

:00:59.:01:01.

# I lost my way Lost my way

# Fell down a hole Fell down a hole
