Episode 7 Let It Shine

Last week, five bands gave it all in our first live show.

The boys risked singeing while singing.

That was like a vocal masterclass. Absolutely sublime.

Danced on a huge mirrored wedding cake, obviously.

Lots of girls in here are saying marry me, right?

Put the boom back in boom box. And you guys are dynamite.

Climbed all over the furniture. You sounded amazing and looked

incredible. Shut up, you were awesome. In the nail-biting results

show three bands went through automatically to tonight's

semifinal. Two bands had to sing again as each

boy battled for their place in the competition.

Incredibly hard. The judges chose five to fight on in

a new line-up. Whilst five boys said goodbye to their bandmates.

I've never known pressure like it. Tonight Drive join five To five,

Iron Sun and Nightfall as they perform for your votes.

And to the judges another difficult decision lies ahead.

Wow! Hello and welcome to

the Semi Final of Let It Shine! Let's hear it for our four

bands and Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Gary Barlow -

it's Take That! We need you back in full judging

mode in about a minute. Someone give him

a quick dab of make up. Tonight our four

remaining bands are going things get tough because our boys

must prove they can move. as well as sing, so each performance

will feature a full on dance break to see if they can cut it

in the world of boybands. I'm hoping to see some mash potato,

the lawnmower and of course big If they can master that they might

be in with a chance of winning that prize -

the role of a boyband Who wants to see some judges?

CHEERING I thought they might. But before we

do, let's hear from them. The energy of the performances last week was

unbelievable. You would never believe that those bands have only

been together for just a few weeks. You are the ones to watch in this

competition. Well done. The judges can only save five boys. The emotion

after the sing off. It's Connor. I saw boy band tears. The competition

is so tough. I think we chose the best possible mix. Drive lives with

a new line-up. It is a big ask but I can't wait to see if they pull it

off. This week there is a dance break it every track, so it could be

a challenge for of them. Every boy has to pull out their best moves. It

is a part of the Theatre Royal, they have to be able to move. -- Theatre

role. As a member of the Pussycat Dolls she has performed all over the

world. The boys will have to step it up to impress Ashley. She is

performed in some of the biggest arenas with some of the biggest

names in show business, it is the all singing all dancing Ashley

Roberts. Take it from me, there is nowhere to hide, except behind one

of your bandmates. So nice to see you. You know the

way. And tonight's guest judge,

Pussycat Doll and Dancing This week, our boys are being tested

on their dance skills. You've worked as a professional

groover and choreographer - what are you looking

for from our boys? I'm super excited to be here and see

the boys in action. For my dance background I will be looking for

precision to the movement, attacking the choreography, connecting to the

audience, and just having fun, right? So that we all enjoy it.

CHEERING Looking for fun.

Dannii, tonight we're going to see the new look Drive do their thing.

How big a challenge will it be for them?

The guys have really had to pull together. But we feel like we've

chosen some really strong ones. We feel like they go together well. And

Michael daughter said to me yesterday, there is a new line-up,

I'm excited to see them. -- my goddaughter. In entertainment that

is what you want. Wise words. Gary, it's the Semi Final

and our bands are fighting Yes, it's Gary Barlow.

CHEERING It's real now, isn't it? One of

these groups is going to be in the show will stop thank you very much.

As judges we need to focus the closet is all about percentages. All

about percentages. Tonight, only the two

bands with the highest viewer votes will go

through to next week's live Final. The other two will have

to sing again and face, # Come on, baby, let's do the twist

#. In our live results show tonight,

the judges will hear the two bands with the fewest votes

sing again, and then But as we saw last week,

they don't all have to be Now, tonight's vote will open

after all our bands have performed. And if you want to vote

favourite time of day? Mine is much more specific and also

the name of our first band. Five To Five sleepy heads are coming

to terms with their first performance as a new band. Who needs

ones to watch in this competition. That has put pressure on us now. We

Morning! Morning! Have you got a nice quiet relaxing Sunday to look

forward to? No, more rehearsals. All day? Yeah. Talk later, love you.

Bye. Yeah, you boys better get your

skates on those dance moves won't learn themselves. What's wrong with

my hair? Have you washed it? As it is dance week they have their work

cut out learning new moves. We love this routine so much. Last week we

got to show who we are as a band and this week it's about showing a

different side to us. But Curtis isn't as confident I focus on the

singing and for the first time I have to focus on other things

outside my comfort zone. What are you actually saying? I am an

horrendous dancer. Right! Hanging up their dancing shoes for the

afternoon the boys are sent on a bonding exercise.

Oh, yes, that's nice! What about classic car restorer

Nick? He must have an artistic eye. Maybe he is more the mechanical

side. Art has never been one of my strongest points. This is not the

painting challenge, it's Let It Shine. So Frankie Bridge from The

Saturdays drops by to give tips on singing and dancing on a Saturday

night. So you have got the dance break this week. It's different,

it's much more choreography. For some of us in the group it's

stressful. They're not always going to be watching just you and that's

what you have to remember. I am not saying they're going to put you at

the back. You don't have to always feel they're looking at you.

Sometimes you can't take yourself too seriously. When I did Strictly

or was with the girls I never took myself too seriously. It was nice to

meet you all. Good luck, you are going to be amazing. Group hug!

watch someone and I think as long as they get that across everyone's

Oh! Let's hear it for AJ, Curtis, Nick, Sario and Yazdan! It's Five To

Five! You are loving it. There is your friends and family over there

loving it. So good. Wasn't it great? Yeah. AJ,

I have to ask you some of the younger members of Five To Five have

never lived away from home before. How are they coping? They're loving

it. I think Nick and Sario still take their laundry to their parents

s that right? Other than that they're becoming independent. No

one's done that! Martin, that camera must have brought you back to the

old Spandau days Graham, you know we never used to have electricity in

those days! Performed by candlelight! Last night you said

they were dynamite, what are they today? An express train that will

not stop until they reach the final. APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

These boys have something that every great professional have, and when

they're on stage they make it look so, so easy. It isn't that easy. But

they're absolutely fantastic. You know what I love more than anything

else, the friendship that you have off stage, you bring on stage with

you. You let us share it. Now, Ashley, you are coming into

this with totally fresh eyes. Did they manage to pull off that dance

break? I mean, Five To Five, honey, what a way to start the show. Oh,

the energy was amazing. The unity that you guys have and I was looking

with laser eyes. The hand chory was sharp but with energy. Sometimes the

simplest things can get lost, but you gave it your all. Sario, I

thought... OK! You were on it. Amazing, boys. Amazing. This is a

power team for sure. What a start guys. Sario is blushing

now. He is. Gary, what did you make of the

version of Tell Her About It? Guys, you are truly perfection up there.

OK. It was entertaining. Theatrical, fun. I wanted to be in this band but

I am too old! Amazing, goosebumps, incredible. Thank you. Danni, when

it comes to the stage show the lads are obviously going to have to sing

and dance probably at the same time quite a lot. Did they do it for you?

I tell you, the precision involved to do a song in that style, with the

dancing, is incredible. Let me remind the audience, you guys are

not professional performers and highlight to Curtis, we know there

is a struggle with the dancing, you rocked! At no point did we think

that was hard for you and you were hitting Mariah Carey notes up there,

what's going on! If they convinced you they could tread the boards, get

behind them when the vote opens after all the bands have performed.

Quite hot, a lot of heat coming off them! Details are on screen now,

probably around our lower leg/shin area. Don't vote now as your vote

APPLAUSE AND CHEERING Now it's Iron Sun. It's a radiant

morning perfect for arty shots and for Iron Sun boys to bask in last

week's success. That was crazy. We couldn't have given any more to

that. We through the kitchen sink at it. What was your highlight? I think

the drums. Really? I never done that in my life, that face. Stop lying. I

kissed you. You did kiss me! Right boys, the semifinal. All-singing,

all-dancing. The hard work starts now!

Boys. What are you doing? All right.

Luckily Tom Parker of The Wanted and soon to be Danny in Grease the

musical drops by to get the boys fired up. Boys!

This week you have heavy choreography, is it a dance break?

Yeah, semifinals, it's dance week. We need to prove ourselves as well

as dancers, singers, because the vocals still have to be on. Totally.

The song is challenging vocally, it's high up in the range. Add in

the choreography on to that... It's the combination of the both. That's

hard. Trying to control your voice, I am doing Grease, try and combining

and dancing and singing has been such a learning curve. Doing the

jive, mate! I have never done the jive in my life. Mum, what's a jive?

! With Tom's words of warning rehearsals begin and turns out he is

right. This singing and dancing Lark isn't easy. This routine is

absolutely a killer. I am more or less concentrating on not passing

out because I am out of breath. It's important just to breathe. Poor

Jordan. At least tomorrow is his birthday. We are about to go into

his vocal session. And basically interrupt him. To celebrate the boys

could have baked him a show-stopper cake in the shape of Scotland but

opted for choke lat lumps in a tray. # Happy birthday to you!

You know to to wish for mate. Absolutely. Good man. That's enough

fun. Get back to work. With tummies full of cake the boys

slip on their dancing shoes and put everything they can into their

semifinal performance. We all bring something to this performance and I

have even attempted to learn the harmonica. A Rather than being

scared we are going to go for it. Have been working so hard, so hope

They are loving it. Hang on, hang on, they dropped some

feathers. Thanks, I will just put that behind

my ear for later. Unbelievably, Alexis, you have two children. Yeah,

hello, Jack and Penny. They are all kids. They keep me

quite young. But I am feeling it now. I'm so glad you are out of

breath, it makes me feel better. I feel like we are in a big nest

with all of our feathers. on 'Born This Way', did you go

a little bit gaga I was a little. It was great. You

started off strong. Fitting in the movements. I would say the diagonal

line, be careful about throwing away some of those are movements because

they got a bit sloppy in the back. Otherwise the energy was great. You

are awesome. There is serious star potential on the stage. Keep going,

keep rehearsing, keep being rock stars. Nice. Gary, we are all aware

that dance is your life. What did you think

of Iron Sun's moves? I'm no professional when it comes to

dance. Stop it, Gary. You guys bring a great energy. I don't personally

think it has been your best week this week. But I have to say that

viewers have to remember how good these guys were last week and in

their individual auditions, as well. I don't think you have had your best

week. If the audience get behind you, and remember this is a strong

band, I just think some of the choices were strange. Do you agree,

Dannii? We have very high expectations. There is great musical

ability in this group. We saw that last week. I didn't feel the

progression. It seems like a mixed bag of all sorts. You've got to have

this cohesion. You have got to glue together. I did not realise I was

watching a band. If I was going to a theatre show I would have thought it

is the lead, the understudy, the lead, the understudy, and they've

never met before. That is interesting. Martin? I think Dannii

has been fair, I don't think there was enough unity. I know that the

audience loved it. I really see every week how hard you guys work. I

love that. I just want to pick out Jordan, OK.

APPLAUSE For me, whenever I look at this

band, Jordan just jumped out. I cannot take my eyes off him. I want

to say congratulations. Because originally you were a drummer. You

sit at the back, hiding behind the drums, you are coming forward to the

first time, and I think you are doing a wonderful job. Nice words.

Nightfall flex their tinkle toes. It is about making the band the best it

having loads of fun. Look. You have personality in buckets. Last week

the judges saved these next five boys, creating a brand new line-up.

They've only been together for a few days, but it's fine, they have had

an MOT, changed a couple of tyres, they are as good as new, buckle up

for Drive. It's Sunday morning. Newly formed

Drive are reeling from the drama the night before. It was a weird

situation to be in, wasn't it? It was horrendous. It was just such a

strange feeling of nice things and bad things. Five stars for five

places. But they were not so can't just

moments after Saturday's show. I don't want to do that ever again.

Can we make sure we don't do that next week, yeah? To be honest with

you I'm just feeling overwhelmed. I have to prove something now. Back at

rehearsals the new Drive line-up are eager to jail. Keep that left leg

straight. And these boys don't have any time to waste. -- gel. You are

not as ready as everybody else. Most of the guys are ahead of me and

Connor. But they've been great. We're having loads of fun. Look.

For, things are not coming so easy. He's been doing this for years. Then

there is me. I just don't have the experience. His new band-mate

pitches in to get up to speed. I saw him struggling, I told him that I

would practice with him again. When you see someone who needs help, jump

in, see what you can do, don't just watch them struggle. After a night

of intensive rehearsals the boys limber up for the day ahead with

some aerial yoga. Naturally, why wouldn't you? It is

conkers. I feel like Spiderman. # I'm the king of the swingers #.

Now someone who knows all about singing and dancing.

It is actually great, you have personality in buckets, but you are

just so terrible that what this is. It is aerial yoga. Who cares? You

know when you were on Strictly, what were you thinking about? It is about

relationship, friendliness, heart, and when you move it should be in

your moves. You already have it. You already seem to enjoy each other's

company. You make each other laugh. Keep doing that thing. When you show

your personality it is magic. As long as you are positive about who

you are with you are going to be perfect. For the live shows we will

bring in new energy, a new look, and a new vibe. It is game on.

All right, let's hear it for Drive! Mingling with the fans, the friends

and familys, give them a wave. -- friends and family up there. You

have got two brand new members of the band, how has it been adjusting

to that, any musical differences? We have all been different in the band.

But they have brought any energy. As soon as they came in they showed

100% and they've given us support. The pandas.

Last week you deliberated and created this combination. Did they

rise to the challenge? These guys have had the hardest job this week.

Not only rehearsing a new song with new band members but making that

friendship that comes through on the stage. I thought you did a really

good job, guys. CHEERING

Vocally, some of the harmonies were a little off, but we probably won't

see a better dance break tonight. I thought it was excellent. Wow. Your

thoughts, Dannii. All of the boys were really dancing well and getting

into character. Mark and Jazzi... Mark, when you are in the middle,

you need to work on the Unison, the harmonies, work on them, work on

them, work on them. A little bit controversial Duran Duran over

Spandau. They would have loved that. The dance break in the middle was

outstanding. I think you might have lacked some energy outside of it. I

would have liked to have seen it positive all the way through the

performance. But it was a great performance. Do not boo Martin Kemp.

There were a few wrinkles. We've all got them. Let's move on. Ashley, did

their performance onstage convince you that they could be a real boy

band in a show in a theatre? 100% did. The dance break, that was on

fire, the precision, the arm movements, the levels, the

transitions, they were clean. The energy was amazing. That is what I

wanted to see tonight. Mark, honey, yes, putting it down. One of my

favourite dance breaks of the night so far. She knows what talking

about. I love a clean transition. If you

I get it. You know we are on television?

A quick peek through the curtains tells me it is dark outside, which

can mean only one thing, it's... Nightfall!

After smashing in last week's first live show Nightfall celebrate with

bacon sandwich is all round. Brown sauce? I would have gone for

ketchup. Before the song ended and we were

like... # Nobody said it was easy. Out of the corner of my eye I saw

the judges rise together, like what! Every emotion goes through you. You

are trying to pull it and your mind... When it hits you... A

massive relief. Last week was ballad and this week is full-on

choreography. It's different from what the audience got but I reckon

they're in for a treat. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Nightfall

may have nailed the vocals but this week the ante has been upped on the

choreography front. The next challenge - getting the moves right.

We have to show we are not just about the ballads, we are about the

singing and dance, as well. We can go further. An ovation. The vocals

have to be consistent, as good as last night. Are you nervous? Yes.

Fond of this fancy footwork, Huw? It's a lot of jumping and dynamic

movement. If it comes off it will be really good but it needs some TLC,

definitely. As the boys put in the hours and rehearsals start coming

together Nightfall begin to feel like a proper boy band. What do all

proper boy bands need? Girls, of course. Feels better. With dancing

becoming less daunting, the boys pull out their most impressive

freestyle moves. # Come on and do the congo...

With Nightfall ready to bowl everyone over it feels like they're

on a roll. Someone who knows all about the ups and downs of band

life, Girls Aloud star and West End leading lady Kimberley Walsh drops

by to give advice. We feel more connected. We are a band. We want to

sound good together. If I have give you advice, really try to call on

etch ear's strengths. Doesn't mat fish one person is better at singing

and dancing, use that, it's about making the band the best it can be.

I will be watching from the comfort of my sofa, with a glass of wine

rather than having the nerves they are having. I am not sure how to

throw it... Don't worry, Jason, you will get the hang of it... Ah, that

will do nicely! # But I can't accept

that we're estranged # I can't quit now,

this can't be right Let's hear it for Bradley, Danny,

Huw, Jason and Julius. Well done They're standing up.

Very good. I tell you what, gang. I really

fancy some prawn balls after that. Very good. Dannii, last week you

were all about the ballads. This week, so different. You have had to

break a sweat and do a full-on dance routine, how have you found it? We

wanted to show we are not one-trick ponies, we have the whole package.

Very strong. Thank you boy Danny. Now girl Dannii. I would have to say

your one trick is that you are so consistent. It's insane. You know

what, make sure you vote if you love this group, because they're

consistent don't think we have seen that before. Incredible. I think two

of the most improved would be Huw and Julius. From auditions to now,

it's a huge improvement. Jason didn't have to lead with vocally

with this, you were all giving it your all. So please vote for this

group. Martin, did Nightfall surprise you tonight? I loved this

band, love it! Every time you walk on that stage

you give 150%. Being in theatre isn't just about ability, it's about

sustainability. Doing it again and again and again. You are just

fabulous. I want to pick out Huw, I think Huw...

weeks ago to the man you are today makes me so proud.

APPLAUSE Now, Ashley, you know what it takes

to dance in sync with your band. Was this a tight unit of five? It really

was. I mean with the Dolls we were really singing and dancing and the

stamina to sustain that throughout the whole performance, you guys did.

It was amazing. Nightfall, I was falling in love, I was like yes!

With all of them? Sure, why not! No, it's a family show. You guys are

hungry. You want to be here and want to win. You can feel that. So, thank

you. It was amazing performance. Last week you probably remember that

Gary called it a vocal masterclass. I wonder did the dancing affect the

vocals tonight? Absolutely not, it made it better, actually. It really

did. It's hard to explain, being in a band it's like an invisible thread

running through each member that you know is there and no one can see it

but it's like you know where everyone else is on that stage and

this - I don't know how because you have not been together that long,

you have that. It's so harmonic what you are doing up there. It looks

right. Because you name checked people, Jason is an amazing singer

and the fact he sat back tonight and let everyone else shine shows he is

a fantastic man. I am going! If you lie awake at night thinking

about Nightfall in the final get ready to vote in a moment.
