HE SINGS

It really all took off for me when I went for The Voice of Ireland.

My first love was country music. We used to be singing country

all the time and I got to perform a few country songs on the show.

I knew, once the show had finished, that's what I wanted to do -

launch another country scene here in Ireland.

Up in the North here, the country scene is really, really strong,

because you are getting all age groups going to the country shows.

You've got grandparents and parents and their sons and daughters -

a real variety of people go to the shows.

I've been brought up on farm. When I come home, we go out

and go about the farm and chill out for a while.

I suppose people would say they are therapeutic, in a way,

but they are out there and I just come home sometimes

and check on them and it's good to walk out round them and chill out.

Part of the river is the Mourne River,

just outside Newtownstewart.

It's a very popular spot for fishing - salmon fishing.

It's a great spot to come down and just get away from the scene,

the music scene, for a few hours. It's a lovely part of the world and,

hopefully, we'll have a bit of luck today.

My wife just hands me the two babies right away!

"It's your turn," she'll say! Ella, she's three,

and Caitlin, she's nine months.

Two girls and they are absolutely brilliant.

Now, music has been a very important aspect in your family.

It has been handed down through the generations.

-Your grandfather was a great fiddle player.

-That's right.

That's right. And my father was a singer, and my uncles.

Just steeped in it. It's in the blood.

How do you choose the songs or the new songs you do with the band?

I am always looking for, you know, always looking for the next hit,

I suppose. We are always looking for jives, because people come out to

-the shows and they...

-They love the dancing.

So, it's just you are always looking for that next hit, I suppose.

Now, you have a fine herd of cattle at home, not to mention...

..not to mention the ornamental poultry.

Who in the name of the Good Lord

looks after them when you're away, like this?

Just my parents back home live on the farm when I'm away.

No, it's just I come from a farming background, so I did,

but I haven't got much time for them at the minute, cos I'm on the road

with the band, but it's good to come back and chill out for a few hours.
