Greg & Jen Reading and Leeds Festival

Good evening and welcome to the final stop of BBC Three's summer of

festivals. We've done Big weekend. We've done T in the Park and

Glastonbury and we've come to Reading. I love Reading. All the

other festivals are great, but this is home to me. It is like you step

on the grass and, I've arrived, is home to me. It is like you step

at Reading. Look at this wonderful sight. The sun is setting on day one

of Reading and people are excited. Everyone is quite fresh, they want

to go and see stuff. By Sunday it is like, I want to go home. And

everyone is excited. There's the train depot. Across the weekend we

have Arctic Monkeys headlines, Blink-182, Paramore and Queens of

the Stone Age as well. And this is what else you can expect in the next

three That's a good weekend I would say.

Yes. Summer is almost done, exams are done, GCSE results done,

A-levels done. So many teenagers come here just to have that amazing

final weekend of their summer. We are going bring you the best bits of

it up until Sunday night. I've been coming here since I was 15 and I

haven't stopped. Like likes three whole years! Hudson Taylor is coming

up with an acoustic system. Paramore are in the Treehouse right now. How

are you feeling? I feel sick. You love them. I love them so much.

do it right. And sharing the headline spot with Queens of the

Stone Age must feel incredible to be up there. Nerves. I'm going to throw

on this stage for us is cool. It is different music from what we are

part of normally, but to be sandwiched between Vampire Weekend

and Queens of Stone Age is really cool. You're music fans and music

lovers. Who else on the line-up did you want to see today? The only band

I saw today, we rolled up a little bit late today. Tomorrow we'll see

more bands. My sister came with me. This is her first trip to England.

Our band we grew up listening to is Jimmy Eat World. And Warpaint. They

are on tomorrow. The UK loves you as well. This is the only UK date for

Paramore this year isn't it? This is the place to see you. We are

embarrassed, sorry. Reading and Leeds should feel privileged. You

came over here and did the tour when the album first came out and now

you've come back especially from the United States. In the middle of the

tour. It was like, OK, pause that tour, we've got to go to Reading and

Leeds. This is an iconic festival, the one that everyone knows and

talks about. What makes it so special? Is it the legacy, is it the

bands they keep putting ro on? Definitely the legacy, for sure.

Last time we played this was when we played with The Cure. It is a great

festival to be a part of. Like I said before, for us to have been

able to start small and grow here is a huge deal for us. Tonight it is

sort of in a weird way for us playing a show in England it is a

homecoming and we get to celebrate the time we've spent here and the

fans that have come out almost for the last ten years, and play a

massive show. That's why people love Reading and Leeds, because bands

realise how big a deal it is and they play a show that's worthy of

it. Do you get daunted at the prospect of headlining? What are you

going to add to your show tonight to take it to that headlining level? We

brought a tonne of production. More than we've ever been able to bring,

so we got tonnes of stuff. Keep it quiet on the confetti but we are

going to blow everyone away with confetti. We want to make it an

experience for the fans as well out there in the crowd and even far back

in the crowd. We are going to try to involve as many people as possible,

and there's a tonne of people here. It will be a lot of confetti and

lights. You said last time you played here, in 2012, you were

nervous. Yes. You've toured this album from a year or 18 months,

something crazy like that. We are at two years almost at promoting this

record and having finished the album. I think we finish the album

in October of 2012. It's been a very long cycle but I don't think the

nerves have gone away, to be honest with you. Tonight is going to be so

cool for us as music fans. As a part of Paramore, which we've been

building and growing. This is our life. This is our life's situation.

We've made this for the past ten years. Yeah, I'm really nervous. I

don't want to screw up tonight. You won't. You won't. I want to find out

what makes a band work for such a long period of time. How do you all

keep from punching each other and keeping well? Obviously you like

each other and like making music. What's the secret of your band? If

there was a secret I'm sure a lot of bands would still be together. Are

you sure you are asking the right band this question! We stay

grounded. We all know none of us are special. We all started off from the

same place, so us keeping each other grounded and having the same goals.

Even for how important our fan base is. To some other bans that's not

necessarily important, and that's their whole thing. Whatever our

goals are, we are in unison. Having that and just being friends and

making sure that your friendship is more important than the job part of

it. It's pretty similar to taking care of a normal friendship,

exceptor for you might have to find a -- except you might have to find

more space. It's the opposite. To me when a band is fighting, that's a

healthy band. It is like what they say about relationships. If you are

not communicating and fighting it out, you are not billion yourselves.

We've had, you are not being yourselves. We've had to learn that

the hard way. You are going to smash it tonight. I cannot wait. Thank you

debut show? Really? I have a long history with the festival, but it

kinda came down to I needed a finish line. I needed a deadline. If we

didn't just do it, the craziest biggest show that we could, I would

have spent too much time waiting to get ready, or when's the record

coming out? Booking Reading forced everything. How have you felt that

the fans have reacted to it on stage. It is different from what you

did before. It is different. They reacted amazingly. It was a lot of

love. The looks that I saw and the energy I felt, they were happy I was

back on stage. That's a nice feeling. I'm glad you got some good
