0:02:250:02:29

They're students from the London College of Creative Media, LCCM Choir,

0:02:290:02:33

and here's a reminder of how they got on last week.

0:02:330:02:37

# I lift my hands

0:02:370:02:42

# In total praise to you. #

0:02:420:02:50

I'm really excited. I'm really excited to hear what we're going to come out with.

0:02:510:02:54

It's going to be special.

0:02:540:02:55

As a child I always grew up in the church, and the more I kept

0:02:550:02:59

coming to church, the more I realised who Jesus was, how he meant to me.

0:02:590:03:03

So, the song Hosanna, that's pretty much praise for me.

0:03:030:03:06

It's not just a performance, it's just for me to lift it up.

0:03:060:03:09

# The angels bow down at the thought of you

0:03:180:03:22

# Hosanna, forever we worship you

0:04:300:04:33

# Someday every tongue shall confess your name

0:04:330:04:38

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:06:120:06:16

Muyiwa, a modern classic by Kirk Franklin. How do you think they did?

0:06:200:06:26

These babies had it.

0:06:260:06:28

I mean, I'm loving them, not just for the hair they have, because

0:06:280:06:31

I want some myself, you know, but for the passion, the performance.

0:06:310:06:36

Got to have you.

0:06:360:06:37

And the choir director, you got your thing going,

0:06:370:06:40

I feel like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah!"

0:06:400:06:42

APPLAUSE

0:06:420:06:45

Karen, Kirk Franklin is known for passion in performance,

0:06:450:06:49

and precision in delivery. Did they get both sides?

0:06:490:06:53

I think they did.

0:06:530:06:54

I mean, this is a very well loved song,

0:06:540:06:56

and it's not at all easy to do, so there were some parts that

0:06:560:07:00

I was listening out to, like those staccato notes

0:07:000:07:03

on "sin" and "ONE I adore", and you nailed it perfectly.

0:07:030:07:07

-You really did.

-APPLAUSE

0:07:070:07:11

Seal, we want to hear from you.

0:07:110:07:13

Three words - love, love, loved it. I thought it was fantastic tonight.

0:07:130:07:18

There's a vitality, and you can feel that youth, and you can see that

0:07:210:07:25

you guys are just willing to have a go and take chances and be daring.

0:07:250:07:29

It was just sensational, I can't say enough good things about you.

0:07:290:07:32

LCCM!

0:07:350:07:37

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:07:370:07:41

Literally given all the energy tonight,

0:07:410:07:44

as if it was our last ever performance.

0:07:440:07:45

Seal said, in three words...

0:07:450:07:47

..love...

0:07:480:07:50

-love...

-Don't forget the other one.

0:07:500:07:53

-ALL:

-..Love!

0:07:530:07:55

Next up, it's the turn of the church choir, Royal Voices.

0:07:590:08:03

# Somebody say yeah

0:08:050:08:07

-# Yeah

-Yeah

0:08:070:08:11

-#

-Yeah, take me

-Take me to the Lord. #

0:08:110:08:16

This is an opportunity for us to express what God has given to us

0:08:160:08:19

and just show the world that actually we have joy,

0:08:190:08:21

and we are really happy people, and want to share that good news.

0:08:210:08:24

We'll be doing a song called Glory To Glory, that is really our story.

0:08:270:08:30

We started writing from the Scripture,

0:08:300:08:32

which talks about being transformed from one level to another,

0:08:320:08:35

so that's where the inspiration of the song came in.

0:08:350:08:37

And then we sat down in church one day

0:08:370:08:39

and tried to arrange a tune around it, and then some verses.

0:08:390:08:42

And, yeah, it was a team effort, and in the end we love the fact

0:08:420:08:45

that it came out really good, and that's what we'll be doing today.

0:08:450:08:49

# Going from glory to glory

0:08:560:09:01

# We're going from glory to glory

0:09:030:09:08

# We are with open faces

0:09:090:09:15

# We are beholding his glory

0:09:160:09:22

-# We are transformed

-We are transformed

0:09:220:09:26

-# We have been changed

-By the spirit of the Lord

0:09:260:09:29

# By the spirit of the Lord

0:09:290:09:30

-# We're going, we're going

-From glory to glory

0:09:300:09:33

-# We're going

-By the spirit of the Lord

0:09:330:09:37

-# We're going, we're going

-From glory to glory

0:09:370:09:40

-# We're going

-By the spirit of the Lord

0:09:400:09:43

-# Going from glory to glory

-Lord...

0:09:430:09:48

-# By the spirit of the Lord

-Going from glory to glory

0:09:480:09:54

-# I tell you, nothing can stop us

-Nothing can stop us

0:09:540:09:59

-# We are unstoppable

-Unstoppable

0:09:590:10:02

-# Nothing can stand against us

-We are invincible

0:10:020:10:10

-# Well, do you believe it?

-Yeah

0:10:100:10:19

-# Do you believe it?

-Yeah

0:10:190:10:25

-# Can you feel it?

-Yeah

0:10:250:10:31

-# I say, can you feel it?

-Yeah

0:10:310:10:38

-# I tell you, we're unstoppable

-Yeah

0:10:380:10:41

-# Immovable

-Yeah

0:10:410:10:42

-# Unshakeable

-Yeah

0:10:420:10:44

-# Invincible

-Yeah

0:10:440:10:46

# We cannot be stopped No, we cannot be moved

0:10:460:10:49

-# We can't be defeated

-Yeah

0:10:490:10:52

-# Unstoppable

-Yeah

0:10:520:10:54

-# Invincible

-Yeah

0:10:540:10:56

-# Unshakeable

-Yeah

0:10:560:10:58

-# Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

-Yeah

0:10:580:11:05

# Going from glory to glory

0:11:060:11:11

-# Let me hear you say

-Going from glory to glory

0:11:110:11:18

-# One more time, say

-Going from glory to glory. #

0:11:180:11:29

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:11:290:11:33

Seal, I want to start with you. That was a self-written song.

0:11:380:11:41

You are an award-winning songwriter. What did you think of it as a song?

0:11:410:11:45

I thought it was a wonderfully dynamic choice.

0:11:450:11:48

Overall, a very measured performance,

0:11:480:11:51

perhaps a little too measured in some places,

0:11:510:11:54

but your experience showing through, I really congratulate you for that.

0:11:540:12:00

-Karen?

-I could feel that you meant every word that you sung.

0:12:000:12:06

In your movement, in your eyes.

0:12:060:12:07

What you say here is really important,

0:12:070:12:10

and you had it all going on.

0:12:100:12:12

The lead singer was fabulous, by the way, I loved your attitude.

0:12:120:12:15

I loved your voice.

0:12:150:12:17

But we must also pay attention to what the choir do,

0:12:170:12:21

so, as an ensemble, you must be very careful to carry your notes

0:12:210:12:25

all the way to the end of the phrase.

0:12:250:12:28

But as a performance, I absolutely loved it, and I love the song.

0:12:280:12:33

Muyiwa. The faith and the worship element of it, did that come across to you?

0:12:330:12:38

It was such a scintillating experience for me,

0:12:380:12:40

that I thought, OK, whatever they are drinking, I want some of it,

0:12:400:12:43

because I want to shine like that.

0:12:430:12:46

We want to come to your church.

0:12:460:12:48

APPLAUSE

0:12:480:12:51

Thank you, Royal Voices.

0:12:510:12:52

They saw the other side of us.

0:12:560:12:57

They thought that we are maybe boring,

0:12:570:13:00

but now they want some of what we have been drinking,

0:13:000:13:02

so, it's very exciting for me, it's really good.

0:13:020:13:06

We wanted them to feel that, look, we're not just a church choir,

0:13:060:13:10

we are a church choir with understanding, with meaning,

0:13:100:13:12

and with energy and with joy, so we got that across.

0:13:120:13:16

Our next choir is from the city of dreaming spires.

0:13:190:13:23

It's Oxford Gospel Events Choir.

0:13:230:13:26

# Glory, glory, hallelujah

0:13:270:13:33

# Glory, glory, hallelujah Sing that song. #

0:13:330:13:39

The next song is Faith, and I'm doing the solo this time.

0:13:410:13:44

A bit nervous, bit nervous.

0:13:440:13:45

I came to faith.

0:13:470:13:48

I became a Christian through singing in the Oxford Gospel Choir,

0:13:480:13:51

that's why it means so much.

0:13:510:13:53

Faith is really a call-out to the audience to say

0:13:530:13:56

faith is all we need. Trust in God.

0:13:560:13:59

It's a great song for us to get the audience involved,

0:13:590:14:02

to feel like we are all singing together

0:14:020:14:04

and bringing our message to the hall, so we're really excited.

0:14:040:14:07

# Hey, come on and listen

0:14:080:14:12

# Cos I'm gonna tell you what we need

0:14:120:14:15

# We need faith

0:14:150:14:16

# Oh, just have faith and you'll believe

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:17:030:17:09

Karen, can you tell us what you thought about it?

0:17:090:17:11

First of all, I really have to give full props to your lead singer, who was amazing.

0:17:110:17:17

Love that top note at the end.

0:17:170:17:21

The choir, the chorale, on the whole, were just as energetic,

0:17:210:17:25

just as passionate, it was amazing. Well done.

0:17:250:17:29

Muyiwa, they sang about faith. Were you feeling it?

0:17:300:17:35

Absolutely. Substance of things hoped for,

0:17:350:17:38

evidence of things not seen,

0:17:380:17:40

but let me tell you, I truly believed that you had faith

0:17:400:17:45

and I felt the energy from you

0:17:450:17:50

for me also to increase in my faith. Thank you.

0:17:500:17:54

APPLAUSE

0:17:540:17:57

Seal, did they take a step up from last week for you?

0:17:570:18:00

You were just great tonight. You were fantastic.

0:18:000:18:03

A really bold choice of song,

0:18:030:18:06

and I cannot say enough about you, the lead singer.

0:18:060:18:10

And I thought overall, you were all so connected,

0:18:100:18:13

it was such a powerful performance.

0:18:150:18:21

LAUGHTER

0:18:320:18:34

There are just two choirs left to sing in our Gospel Choir Of The Year competition,

0:18:360:18:41

and it's not getting any easier for the judges.

0:18:410:18:43

Next up, a choir with members from all over London.

0:18:430:18:47

Singology.

0:18:480:18:52

# Steal away Steal away

0:18:520:18:54

# Steal away Steal away

0:18:540:18:57

# Steal away Steal away to Jesus. #

0:18:570:19:02

Born To Die is completely different to Steal Away, worlds apart,

0:19:030:19:07

and that's why we chose it.

0:19:070:19:09

So, we've got a bit of choreography, loads of lights and darks, we've got a soloist.

0:19:090:19:14

So it's just a completely different version of what we do.

0:19:140:19:17

We chose it for that reason, and also the choir just love it,

0:19:170:19:20

it's one of their favourites.

0:19:200:19:22

I'll be singing a solo for part of Born To Die.

0:19:220:19:25

I'm just really looking forward to putting our message across,

0:19:250:19:27

over the nerves, hopefully!

APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

0:22:390:22:43

Karen, you raved about them last week.

0:22:480:22:51

Did they live up to your expectations?

0:22:510:22:54

Yeah, this is a Christmas classic, and it's not at all easy,

0:22:540:22:58

especially when you get to those staggered entries.

0:22:580:23:01

I think that you did that brilliantly.

0:23:010:23:04

Great conducting, I have to just give it to you. Really energetic.

0:23:040:23:09

Communicated very well. Lead singer, also great.

0:23:090:23:13

I would just say, lead singer, just connect a little bit

0:23:130:23:16

with the audience, just look at them, connect with people,

0:23:160:23:18

that would really help. Overall, well done, everybody.

0:23:180:23:22

APPLAUSE

0:23:220:23:24

Muyiwa, a song about the birth of Jesus, which is kind of appropriate

0:23:240:23:27

with Christmas approaching, but was it the right song?

0:23:270:23:31

Choir, you can be proud of yourselves for what you've managed to achieve.

0:23:310:23:34

For so many of us coming from different places,

0:23:340:23:38

and to be able to create that one sound.

0:23:380:23:40

And I felt the love,

0:23:400:23:41

I felt the celebratory nature of what you were saying.

0:23:410:23:45

He was born to die for me, I feel so special, so thank you.

0:23:450:23:49

APPLAUSE

0:23:490:23:51

Seal, you know everything there is to know about owning the stage

0:23:510:23:55

and connecting with your audience. Do you feel they managed to do that?

0:23:550:23:59

It was a great intro, first of all, pretty spectacular.

0:23:590:24:02

Loved the song, wasn't too crazy about the arrangement,

0:24:020:24:06

I thought that you could have perhaps shortened the gaps

0:24:060:24:08

where there was no singing.

0:24:080:24:10

But congratulations on a really strong ending, and I love the fight that you showed.

0:24:100:24:16

Ladies and gentlemen, Singology.

0:24:170:24:19

APPLAUSE

0:24:190:24:23

We were nervous, but hopefully we channelled it in the right way.

0:24:230:24:25

It was such a buzz out there, it's brilliant.

0:24:250:24:27

I'm so proud of them all, it was amazing.

0:24:270:24:30

We wanted to just bring the party, and I think we absolutely did.

0:24:300:24:33

Our final choir is a community choir from central London.

0:24:540:24:58

We're going to be singing Souled Out.

0:24:580:25:01

Last week went so well that we are really ready for this one.

0:25:010:25:04

Literally, we have to have soul,

0:25:050:25:07

we have to have that spirit in us, all that passion and all that love, you know?

0:25:070:25:12

And just let it flow out through us to the audience, to everybody watching.

0:25:120:25:16

I think it will come out.

0:25:160:25:17

THEY WHOOP AND CHEER

0:28:270:28:30

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:28:300:28:37

Seal, how was that for a finale?

0:28:390:28:42

Man, they had me going from the get-go. That was a fabulous performance.

0:28:420:28:47

Talk about connected, you were all so connected on the stage tonight,

0:28:470:28:50

and I really love the variety and the choice of leads,

0:28:500:28:54

that really hit a chord with me. Congratulations on that.

0:28:540:28:57

Karen, technically, how good was that?

0:29:000:29:03

First, I want to say that this is one of my favourite choir songs of all time.

0:29:030:29:08

I love it so much. And I think you did a brilliant job. It's not easy.

0:29:080:29:13

Those syncopated rhythms, that percussiveness,

0:29:130:29:16

I think that you did that brilliantly.

0:29:160:29:18

I loved your energy, loved your passion.

0:29:180:29:21

I have to also just say, before you leave the stage,

0:29:210:29:24

I love your blue and bling - beautiful.

0:29:240:29:27

Lovely. Sorry!

0:29:270:29:29

Muyiwa, Karen said that was one of her favourite choir songs.

0:29:310:29:35

It's a Hezekiah Walker classic. You know Hezekiah Walker.

0:29:350:29:39

What do you think he would have made of that?

0:29:390:29:41

You know, it is not just Bishop Hezekiah Walker that's in the mix of this.

0:29:410:29:45

The other person, who is pretty massive in gospel,

0:29:450:29:48

it's Donald Lawrence, he produced this.

0:29:480:29:51

And I think if he heard what you did, he would be so proud,

0:29:510:29:54

because for me, there was unity, there was passion, there was exuberance,

0:29:540:29:59

and there was UK Gospel, baby! Whoop, whoop, whoop!

0:29:590:30:03

CHEERING

0:30:030:30:05

BIG Sing: Gospel Voices! APPLAUSE

0:30:050:30:10

It was so amazing.

0:30:100:30:12

I used to be nervous of solos, but with this family behind me,

0:30:120:30:15

it's just so easy.

0:30:150:30:17

I thought when she said it's a favourite, I thought

0:30:170:30:19

-she had a long list of things that we had to...

-LAUGHTER

0:30:190:30:23

Honestly! She sounded like she was going to say, "Right..."

0:30:230:30:25

But actually, she absolutely loved it, and for all three judges

0:30:250:30:28

to love it, I've got to say I've never been prouder of these guys.

0:30:280:30:31

They sounded incredible. So, guys...

0:30:310:30:36

Well, the choirs have done all they can, and while the judges deliberate,

0:30:390:30:43

we have a very special guest to perform for you.

0:30:430:30:46

She's appeared in the West End in Memphis and The Bodyguard,

0:30:460:30:50

and in just a few days' time, she opens in the new production of the musical Hamilton.

0:30:500:30:55

We're delighted to welcome Rachel John.

0:30:550:30:59

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:30:590:31:04

# As I lay me down

0:31:120:31:15

# Heaven hear me now

0:31:160:31:21

# I'm lost without a cause

0:31:210:31:25

# After giving it my all

0:31:250:31:30

# Winter storms have come

0:31:300:31:34

# And darkened my sun

0:31:350:31:39

# After all that I've been through

0:31:390:31:42

# Who on earth can I turn to?

0:31:440:31:48

# I look to you I look to you

0:31:480:31:55

# And when all my strength is gone

0:31:580:32:03

# In you I can be strong I look to you

0:32:030:32:11

# I look to you

0:32:110:32:15

# And when melodies are gone In you I hear a song

0:32:170:32:26

# I look to you

0:32:260:32:29

# About to lose my breath

0:32:360:32:41

# There's no more fighting left

0:32:410:32:45

# Sinking to rise no more

0:32:450:32:48

# Searching for that open door

0:32:500:32:54

# And every road that I've taken

0:32:540:32:59

# Led to my regret

0:32:590:33:04

# And I don't know if I'm gonna make it

0:33:040:33:09

# Nothing to do but lift my hands

0:33:090:33:12

# And look to you

0:33:120:33:16

# I look to you

0:33:170:33:22

# After all my strength is gone

0:33:220:33:27

# In you I can be strong

0:33:270:33:31

# I look to you

0:33:310:33:36

# I look to you

0:33:360:33:40

# And when melodies are gone

0:33:420:33:46

# In you I hear a song I look to you

0:33:460:33:53

# My levees are broken My walls are coming down on me

0:33:530:34:00

# The rain is falling Defeat is calling

0:34:020:34:07

# I need you to set me free

0:34:070:34:11

# So take me far away from the battle

0:34:110:34:15

# Cos I need you to shine on me

0:34:150:34:21

# And I look to you

0:34:210:34:25

# Lord, I look to you

0:34:280:34:35

# Where all of my help comes from

0:34:350:34:40

# I look to you. #

0:34:400:34:48

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:34:530:34:58

Time now to eavesdrop on the judges' deliberations.

0:35:020:35:06

Each choir made the job so hard.

0:35:060:35:09

LCCM. They took risks in that they did big gospel anthems.

0:35:090:35:15

# No greater love in this world but you. #

I think they probably need a bit more time to grow into it.

0:35:190:35:22

Who would I pay to go and see right now?

0:35:220:35:26

I could only choose one, it would be LCCM,

0:35:260:35:28

because I would really enjoy myself.

0:35:280:35:31

Oxford Gospel Events Choir.

0:35:310:35:33

# Faith is what we need. #

0:35:330:35:37

I loved... I loved their commitment. I love the work they did.

0:35:370:35:41

This week they blew it out the park for me.

0:35:410:35:44

And I think that they are not to be disregarded.

0:35:440:35:47

# Do you believe it? Yeah! #

0:35:470:35:53

Royal Voices, honestly, whether they win or not,

0:35:530:35:56

I want to go to their church and just see what they do, week in, and experience it.

0:35:560:36:00

I felt like I was lacking a little bit to make that connection with them.

0:36:000:36:06

Chorally, they were not as strong as last week.

0:36:060:36:10

And I felt that it was very lead-centred.

0:36:100:36:13

Singology.

0:36:130:36:15

# Born just to die for us So that we could live. #

0:36:150:36:18

The arrangement didn't knock me out,

0:36:180:36:20

there were these long gaps where they weren't singing,

0:36:200:36:23

and seeing as this is all about the choir and the voice,

0:36:230:36:26

I felt they could have done more.

0:36:260:36:29

Although, I think that they executed it brilliantly.

0:36:290:36:32

I just wasn't as moved.

0:36:320:36:34

BIG Sing. That was a juggernaut for me.

0:36:340:36:36

-# I am souled out

-I am souled out. #

0:36:360:36:41

They'd obviously learned from their performance the week before

0:36:410:36:44

and realised that they had to step it up, and so, it's very close.

0:36:440:36:48

But I suppose, unfortunately, one choir has to win.

0:36:480:36:51

The judges have joined me and the choirs are waiting in anticipation,

0:36:540:36:58

because we have a decision.

0:36:580:37:02

Muyiwa, can you announce to the audience at home, in the room,

0:37:020:37:09

and the choirs behind you the winner of Gospel Choir Of The Year 2017?

0:37:090:37:13

The Songs Of Praise Gospel Choir Of The Year 2017 winners are...

0:37:160:37:21

..BIG Sing: Gospel Voices!

0:37:240:37:26

CHEERING

0:37:260:37:31

BIG Sing: Gospel Voices! Seal, will you present the trophy?

0:37:380:37:42

And let's hear it for all our very worthy finalists.

0:37:560:37:59

Well done to you all.

0:37:590:38:02

Our thanks to you, the judges,

0:38:020:38:04

to all five choirs, to everyone here at Westminster Central Hall,

0:38:040:38:08

and, of course, to you at home for your company,

0:38:080:38:12

and we leave you with the winning song. From all of us here, goodbye.
