You're just coming down, I suppose, from what seems to have been

-an amazing tour in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

-Yeah.

Is this your first proper Highlands and Islands tour?

I did do one about four or five years ago,

but it was just as a much more stripped down set-up.

But this was kind of an experiment where we're taking a show

that we're about to go and play in really big venues

and we decided to try and put that same show

in the leisure centre on Shetland.

Which is a magnificent venue.

It was mad. I mean, that was the biggest on the tour.

It's 1,200 people.

I mean, the percentage of the Shetlands who came to that gig

was incredible.

More importantly, did you fly or did you ferry to Shetland?

We actually did fly.

Did you all survive the flight OK?

Because it is basically a Transit with wings, isn't it?

It's kind of a can.

Halfway through the flight, the pilot obviously, like,

put it on autopilot and just turned round and got a Tesco bag.

He went, "There's a can of juice and some crisps, just help yourselves."

LAUGHTER

It was the best trolley service.

Never a worrying sign when the pilot is also the air steward(!)

"You're all right, man, just eyes front. It's all good."

There seems to be such a tremendous sense of freedom with this record.

-Is that how it feels?

-Definitely.

And it's a mirror for what's happened in life

and I think that the whole theme of the record and why it's called Kin

is that I went through a couple of really, really huge tectonic shifts

in life that were really difficult

and it led to a lot of self-reflection and exactly that,

just ripping everything up,

starting again, working out why it hadn't worked the first time round.

There'd been lots of success, but at the end of the day,

you've got to be happy to enjoy all of that.

I've come back just feeling much more grateful about

having the opportunity to be the boss of something

that brings people a lot of joy.
