My name is Ash Morgan, I'm 26 and I'm a youth arts coordinator.

I'm from South Wales, in the Valleys,

and I've lived here all my life and it's where I live and work now.

I work predominantly with children from special schools.

These are the leaves for the big flowers, yeah?

The job can sometimes be challenging,

but it's really rewarding.

Looks like a stained glass window, doesn't it?

I've never had any singing lessons.

I sang at a karaoke evening when I was 16.

That was the first time, really, that I sang in public.

But I don't do any gigs these days.

I'm really focused on my art sessions with the special schools.

-Nice to see you. How are you feeling?

-OK. Very nervous.

-Are you?

-Yeah.

-Just pretend they don't exist.

-I intend on doing that.

Those chairs are completely empty.

You haven't got four of the world's biggest superstars sat in them.

-I'm not helping, am I?

I think, image, if you're a singer, is really, really important,

but it should be secondary to the voice.

To be able to go out there and to be judged purely on vocal ability,

I tink is really liberating, actually.

I don't really play that often in public, so singing in front

of the coaches is going to be really nerve-racking.

-How do you reckon he's feeling?

I have always sung. Maybe quietly to myself in my room.

I would never have thought of it as proper singing.

I was more just singing along to the radio.

I did my first gig this year. It was an open mic night.

I was panicking. I couldn't really breath and I was so, so nervous.

When I audition today it will be my third time

I have ever sung in public so I am a little bit terrified.

I feel quite like I must be the least experienced person here.

Performing is everything to me.

I haven't had professional training so I have sort of trained myself.

I have been in girl bands. I've done tribute acts.

I went to Majorca, I was there for the season.

I have worked with, like, producers, DJs.

So I've done a lot of things but I go two steps forward

and then it's always two steps back again.

So where are you at in the world of work at the moment? What do you do?

I am just at an office at the moment.

I was a landlady at a pub but it fell through

so now I am back at my mum's, staying with her. I share a room with her.

-Yeah, it's sort of hard times at the moment.

It's a little bit like being a kid again.

She has only got a small, little flat so I am sharing a bed with her.

It's a little bit difficult but I'm trying to get back on my feet.

The fact the coaches can't see me

What I listen for is originality.

I like the ones that hit me with a natural-sounding voice.

I'm not looking for anything in particular.

I'm just looking for the voice.

'It's just like desire, attraction, magnetic, sucks you in.'

I'm going to look for massive diversity in all ranges

'and all areas of music.'

I want to hear someone with potential and

if someone gives you goose bumps then I think you have to go for it.

I like somebody that could stand up anywhere

and when that person sings people go, "Wow."

If that person hits you...

Next up is 26-year-old Andrea Begley from Belfast who has a unique

understanding of how it feels to judge others

purely on the way they sound.

When I was about five years old,

I found out I had a condition called glaucoma which is high-pressure

in my eyes and it has meant that I have now lost 90% of my vision.

Glaucoma is a degenerative condition so once your vision is gone,

Basically, that's it. There is no means of getting it back.

I had to adapt the way I did things.

For example, playing for friends are watching TV or the ordinary

things that you normally take for granted.

You're judging me completely on how I am speaking to you.

Am I doing all right?

-Am I doing OK?

-You're doing great.

-Good.

Music really became, I suppose, my get-out.

'It was a natural progression, really.'

She just loves singing. She sings round the house

and we are tired of listening to her singing in the house.

When I sing, it just takes me to somewhere else.

Somewhere that's totally cut off from reality that

I just feel a complete sense of relaxation and it's something

that I can just automatically do without needing any assistance or

having any issues so I think that is maybe why it is so important to me.

This is the biggest challenge I have ever put myself to.

I am hopeful that the blind audition will put me

on a more level playing field with the other artists rather than

sometimes feeling at a bit of a disadvantage because I can't see.

Like everyone, 29-year-old Kirsty Crawford has one shot

but it hasn't been her only shot.

I know it sounds cheesy to say that you've got a lot riding on it.

This girl kind of does.

I have been singing since I was a kid.

Always with dreams of being in musical theatre

or on MTV at some point.

My parents had always hit home the importance of education.

I got into med school and I ended up taking a gap year of singing

and I didn't go back.

I think my parents were more anxious than they were disappointed.

About 10 years ago, I got signed off the back of a singing competition.

For many reasons, it didn't quite work out.

So that really, really did knock my confidence because you think,

"Have I failed?

And I was very disappointed in myself

so for three years I stopped singing.

The only way I can ever see myself fulfilling everything that

I love is as a singer but every time I sing,

I get so nervous and I panic.

I need to prove to myself I stuck it out through

the dip in confidence for a reason.

The nerves aren't going to get the better of me. I'll be fine.

I've never been like this before. Never.

It is quite a big stage though.

I quite simply didn't deserve any turn arounds

cos that wasn't me on stage. That just... It just wasn't.

You think it's meant so much to them and sometimes the nerves is

the power you're trying to put in because it means so much.

You have to try and push through it.

The biggest challenge for any act is nerves.

And, as performers themselves,

that's something our coaches understand all too well.

JESSIE: It's hard. It's crazy tough.

DANNY: It's petrifying.

They have waited their whole life for this moment.

Nerves can either give you more strength, that little edge.

But if your nerves get the better of you, it can destroy you.

The advice I have for singers that are going to step up there

is pick a song that you really like to give the best performance

that you feel that you can give.

Take a deep breath and remember why you are there. That's all.

Take advantage of the fact that our backs are turned.
