Some pretty Lies there from Status Quo

who are doing pretty well in the chart at the moment too.

This week in the pop world has been somewhat overshadowed

by the tragic news from New York of the death of John Lennon.

Later in the programme,

we'll be giving our own particular tribute to John.

But, as well as that, it's Christmas coming up soon

and that means all the bands are out on the road

and out of the road at the moment are Dire Straits.

They're playing up to Christmas,

including four days at the Rainbow in London,

leading up to Christmas Day itself.

Also, the former Yes lead vocalist, Jon Anderson,

is out on tour at the moment until 17th December.

Now, one man who isn't out on tour at the moment,

but is with us today, is Gary Numan.

I keep hearing rumours about you and your career

and the fact that you're retiring.

-Yeah, that's right. Just some shows, that's all.

-Really?

So, you're still going to be making records?

Yeah, a few more albums but no more concerts.

Yes, there will be one at Wembley in April.

-Why are you withdrawing from live appearances?

-Er...I don't know.

I just want to do something else really.

I've done it for two years or so and I'd rather do something else.

Time for a change. How are you filling your days nowadays?

-I'm flying.

-Flying?

-Yeah, not... I'm learning to be a pilot.

-Really?

-Bit of a dangerous hobby.

I'm going to go onto two engines. If one goes, I've got the other one.

That's Abba at number 1 with Super Trouper

and recently, when I was talking to Benny and Bjorn,

they told me their greatest musical influence in their early years

was The Beatles and the songwriting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

We've all been shocked this week by the news

of John Lennon's death in New York

and I think the best thing we can do is to remember him

as he was at his best, when he was performing.

He's been a great influence on music through the '60s,

was back again now, and tonight, in Top Of The Pops,

as a tribute to him, let's go back to see him in concert,

filmed about five years ago, in New York, singing Imagine.
