as they battle it out in one of the biggest musical | :00:12. | :00:14.
events of the year - the World Pipe Band Championships. | :00:15. | :00:19.
PLAY This seems to Burns and supporters who have made a | :00:20. | :01:03.
pilgrimage here to Glasgow green. And over the next hour we'll have | :01:04. | :01:07.
fantastic performances from some of the finest pipe bands, | :01:08. | :01:10.
as they go head to head to get It's the one they all want, | :01:11. | :01:13.
the coveted title - Coming up - music from the all | :01:14. | :01:17.
the qualifying bands We'll be taking a look | :01:18. | :01:24.
at one of the Scottish bands who have a real chance | :01:25. | :01:27.
in the competition this year. We'll find out how piping | :01:28. | :01:30.
communities are inspiring the next generation, | :01:31. | :01:32.
with the Govan Schools Pipes We will bring you some action from | :01:33. | :01:37.
the juvenile final. And finally, we'll be | :01:38. | :01:46.
revealing this year's winner. and competitiveness in the air, | :01:47. | :01:49.
which I'm sure will guarantee some brilliant performances | :01:50. | :01:55.
across the board, but before we get into the music, a quick | :01:56. | :01:57.
breakdown of the competition. There are hundreds of bands | :01:58. | :01:59.
here today all competing The top class contenders compete | :02:00. | :02:01.
in the Grade One Arena, where 12 bands made it | :02:02. | :02:05.
through qualifying To help guide us through | :02:06. | :02:07.
the competition, I'm delighted to welcome back our old friend | :02:08. | :02:14.
and legendary expert, Bob Worrall. Bob, can you give us a quick | :02:15. | :02:17.
reminder of the rules? What happens is the 12 bands that | :02:18. | :02:26.
qualify from yesterday will play twice today. They will play a march | :02:27. | :02:33.
Strathspey and real and that will be followed by a medley event this | :02:34. | :02:44.
afternoon. --Reel. They are judged by four adjudicators and the results | :02:45. | :02:48.
from all of those adjudicators in those two events will be entered and | :02:49. | :02:54.
won overall result. To the untrained ear that is not much dividing the | :02:55. | :02:58.
top bands so what the judges look for? They are listing for basic | :02:59. | :03:04.
tonal issues and tiny tunnel discrepancies in balance enchanters | :03:05. | :03:09.
and Sean 's. Dash-mac tiny tonal discrepancies. They will be | :03:10. | :03:22.
listening to overall musical impact involving dynamics and things that | :03:23. | :03:26.
contribute to a great musical performance. The pipe band world is | :03:27. | :03:29.
waiting for infinitely and district. --Inverary And District. They have | :03:30. | :03:51.
won two championships and they have been doing very well. Then Field | :03:52. | :03:55.
Marshal Montgomery have won the World Championship ten times. St | :03:56. | :04:11.
Laurence O'Toole Are playing very well. Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia | :04:12. | :04:20.
What third and the prize list and have been rising steadily and could | :04:21. | :04:30.
claim the title. It would be a very close context. | :04:31. | :04:32.
Inveraray and District have won two of the championships in the lead up | :04:33. | :04:36.
to this Worlds, making them strong contenders to place | :04:37. | :04:38.
St Laurence O'Toole are already in winning form for 2016, | :04:39. | :04:41.
taking first place at the European Championship in June. | :04:42. | :04:43.
Field Marshall Montgomery took home the top prize at the UK | :04:44. | :04:46.
Defending champions Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia | :04:47. | :04:48.
are in a strong position to hold on to their title. | :04:49. | :04:51.
It's definitely going to be a close contest. | :04:52. | :04:53.
Now without further ado, here's the first instalment | :04:54. | :04:55.
First into the arena are Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia. | :04:56. | :05:03.
A pretty solid overall introduction. PIPES PLAY. One thing that is | :05:04. | :05:20.
impressing me at this point is the quality of the drone sound. | :05:21. | :05:39.
We have worked very hard. We are but a few changes at the back end of the | :05:40. | :05:44.
band but think we play much atrazine are together. We are all working | :05:45. | :05:54.
very hard and enjoying it. Dash-mac I think we play much better | :05:55. | :05:56.
together. There are some lovely tenor work in | :05:57. | :06:08.
that part. Sustaining the temporal nicely and | :06:09. | :06:36.
also defining the ends of the phrase extremely well. Dash-mac the temple. | :06:37. | :06:50.
--Tempo. We managed to qualify so it has been good. | :06:51. | :07:11.
The piping live festival has been running a full swing and a lot of | :07:12. | :07:52.
the guys been involved lots of things to do with the festival so we | :07:53. | :07:55.
have been squeezing in practices whenever we can at odd times of the | :07:56. | :08:01.
day and we're just trying to make the best use of the time. It has | :08:02. | :08:03.
been a busy week. We have not had a particularly good | :08:04. | :08:59.
season so it was trying to qualify and put in a couple of creditable | :09:00. | :09:01.
performances today. Great start to the competition | :09:02. | :09:03.
and we'll have more from the main Remember you can also | :09:04. | :09:06.
see all the Grade One performances in full | :09:07. | :09:10.
on our website - bbc.co.uk/worlds. Here's more of the March, | :09:11. | :09:12.
Strathspey and Reel. Next up is Alan Bevan | :09:13. | :09:20.
with Simon Fraser University. That was one of the most precise | :09:21. | :09:55.
introductions we have heard so far today. | :09:56. | :10:14.
Just the touch after that first pipe. It was a good solid run. Two | :10:15. | :10:25.
good runs yesterday and is keeping the ball rolling today. The band has | :10:26. | :10:31.
been on an upward trajectory all season. It looks like we're peaking | :10:32. | :10:35.
at the right time. PIPES PLAY. An excellent temporal in | :10:36. | :11:08.
the Strathspey. -- tempo. Very enjoyable and that is the first | :11:09. | :11:14.
grade one final for me as a pipe Major. We have worked really hard | :11:15. | :11:18.
for this and we have a very strong team of people. I think it was solid | :11:19. | :11:33.
enough. Lovely harmonics between the chanter and that drones. It was | :11:34. | :11:38.
lovely. We have had two great weeks in | :11:39. | :12:02.
Scotland. We have not seen a lot of sun but we had a good week in | :12:03. | :12:05.
Edinburgh and a good week here and we have enjoyed it and the bands | :12:06. | :12:08.
growing hugely and we have new young members of the band who have | :12:09. | :12:11.
developed hugely as the trip has gone on. Very very musical playing. | :12:12. | :12:40.
I am loving the energy coming from the sneers to support this June. | :12:41. | :12:50.
Dash-mac from the snare drums. To support this June. --Tune. That was | :12:51. | :13:06.
our relatively steady performance and the temperature could offer | :13:07. | :13:09.
little but as he went on with a little bit of pushing here and there | :13:10. | :13:12.
are but overall pretty happy with it. | :13:13. | :13:15.
Four bands left to play the MSR, but first a look back at a band | :13:16. | :13:20.
which have the Worlds in their sights. | :13:21. | :13:22.
Let's take a closer look at Inveraray and District. | :13:23. | :13:25.
Like many bands, Inveraray and District have come down | :13:26. | :13:31.
to Glasgow a few days early to prepare for this year's Worlds. | :13:32. | :13:34.
Formed in 2004, the band caught the public's imagination | :13:35. | :13:36.
We caught up with them as Pipe Major Stuart Liddell puts | :13:37. | :13:41.
It is a great venue to play and and that is an aura about the place | :13:42. | :13:53.
which is almost like Christmas. That exciting feeling, you still have | :13:54. | :13:57.
butterflies in the tummy right now because we are looking forward to | :13:58. | :14:01.
going on the Green. The band has been doing well this year and won | :14:02. | :14:05.
the first championship and second in the next and third in the next one | :14:06. | :14:09.
and we won the Scottish and Dumbarton so we're doing is | :14:10. | :14:12.
generally well this year, probably the best season we have ever had. | :14:13. | :14:15.
We're looking at areas that they developed and that changes every | :14:16. | :14:20.
year so one shoe master one thing you're onto the next so we're that | :14:21. | :14:23.
attitude since the beginning of the band. PIPES PLAY. Watch these grace | :14:24. | :14:45.
notes. One, two, three. We have been working was unsound because the | :14:46. | :14:48.
bagpipe itself is a very temperamental instrument that all | :14:49. | :14:51.
requires attention so sound is a big thing. Our strength would be playing | :14:52. | :14:58.
together well as a unit. We have 25 pipers who do well at listing | :14:59. | :15:01.
together locking and as a single unit. | :15:02. | :15:06.
The band came third at last year's World Championships and this | :15:07. | :15:09.
year they are among the favourites to take first place. | :15:10. | :15:13.
We're drawn quite early on so early morning might be cooler than the | :15:14. | :15:18.
afternoon so you really have to gauge the best it can and get the | :15:19. | :15:22.
best out of the instruments so you have to gauge how long you have to | :15:23. | :15:24.
play without going over the top. Some members come | :15:25. | :15:26.
from as far afield as I was on the banned from the | :15:27. | :15:38.
juvenile days up to grade one and I moved away from Inveraray and Levin | :15:39. | :15:45.
is tell you now. Dash-mac I live in Australia now. They are the most | :15:46. | :15:52.
outstanding band in the world and it has been a big goal for a couple of | :15:53. | :15:57.
years and I was finally able to make it work logistically and financially | :15:58. | :16:01.
this year to be a fly in a player from home. I keep in touch with them | :16:02. | :16:07.
with the Internet and watch videos online. Every year I come back they | :16:08. | :16:12.
are a new level and keep going up and up so it is very exciting. Look | :16:13. | :16:18.
out for a wee smile at the end of the performance. If it is going well | :16:19. | :16:25.
I will be smiling. With all the practising done here are | :16:26. | :16:34.
with March, Strathspey and Reel there. It's a lovely sound. | :16:35. | :17:08.
They are sustaining the energy in this march really very well. Very | :17:09. | :17:17.
subtle question and answer phrasing adding to the overall ensemble | :17:18. | :17:31.
effect. In my opinion one of the most talented bass drummers out | :17:32. | :17:32.
there in the field. It felt as if we play from here | :17:33. | :18:15.
which is good, that is what we wanted. Nothing that stood out | :18:16. | :18:21.
majorly so there would always be tiny things in every band hazard. It | :18:22. | :18:25.
is just what they can minimise the damage in Hawaii can do that. I | :18:26. | :18:29.
think we did a pretty good job today. Dash-mac and how you can do | :18:30. | :18:32.
that. The pipe is just a little behind the | :18:33. | :19:18.
snare a line in the Strathspey and is losing a little bit of energy. | :19:19. | :19:26.
And very demanding Strathspey to play as a band. We have had a really | :19:27. | :19:37.
good season so we very confident in today and we're pleased to get that | :19:38. | :19:38.
out of the way. And very strong bottom hand | :19:39. | :20:33.
articulation and the Strathspey. That is one of the demands. | :20:34. | :20:46.
Certainly we have made the prize list at all the majors this year so | :20:47. | :21:17.
far so I just want to play well. If we can put into really good solid | :21:18. | :21:21.
performances today I will be happy and whatever happens with that after | :21:22. | :21:31.
that is beyond our control. PIPES PLAY. | :21:32. | :21:49.
The band is playing as a total unified whole throughout this reel. | :21:50. | :22:15.
Amazing stability to the sound throughout this performance. | :22:16. | :22:33.
First-rate, absolutely first-rate. The competition at the top end of | :22:34. | :22:41.
great one is really tight and the margins are so fine that we've been | :22:42. | :22:44.
doing well but the other bands are doing well as well so it is a very | :22:45. | :22:47.
high standard competition. Up next, the all-important | :22:48. | :22:53.
Medley round. But first a look at some | :22:54. | :22:55.
of the youngest and newest We caught up with the Govan Schools | :22:56. | :22:58.
Pipes Drums Association to find out what it takes to prepare | :22:59. | :23:02.
for the World Pipe Band They bring champion players shoulder | :23:03. | :23:19.
to shoulder with novices ensuring that the bat and is passed on from | :23:20. | :23:22.
one generation to the next. One example of this | :23:23. | :23:32.
is the Govan Schools Pipes and Drums Association's | :23:33. | :23:35.
Junior Novice pipe band. It was a project to try to bring | :23:36. | :23:45.
kids together from different schools. All the kids live in Govan. | :23:46. | :23:51.
I love music. It is a great instrument and many people who | :23:52. | :23:55.
player. I'm looking forward to playing the drums for the first time | :23:56. | :24:01.
in front of lots of people. Quick, March. PIPES PLAY. | :24:02. | :24:13.
With their first Worlds only a few days away, | :24:14. | :24:15.
is putting the budding pipers and drummers through their paces. | :24:16. | :24:28.
That was brilliant. Do that on Saturday and I will be more than | :24:29. | :24:38.
happy. To take up and it's not like the pipes, which is a very difficult | :24:39. | :24:43.
and there to play properly, takes a lot of time and effort. It's | :24:44. | :24:48.
sometimes hard work. I am never given it up. I have only just | :24:49. | :24:55.
started and am practising every day. It is much better today so from | :24:56. | :24:58.
nothing to the World Championships in three years. Power to their | :24:59. | :25:04.
elbow, absolutely fantastic. The band is completely funded | :25:05. | :25:19.
through donations including children and need -- children in need and the | :25:20. | :25:30.
big lottery fund. It is camaraderie and learning an instrument and | :25:31. | :25:32.
discipline which is very important the pipe bands and the enjoyment of | :25:33. | :25:37.
travelling. Ever since I was a weak header I always used to watch the | :25:38. | :25:41.
Govan fair and I always liked the bagpipes and the drums and when the | :25:42. | :25:46.
advertised a skill I thought I would like to play the pipes. I would like | :25:47. | :26:01.
to do well? Yes. ALL: Yes! Have a good nights sleep and I will see you | :26:02. | :26:03.
in the morning. It's the day of the Worlds | :26:04. | :26:06.
and the band are getting in a last-minute practice before | :26:07. | :26:09.
their big performance. I am really excited and I hope we | :26:10. | :26:13.
went. -- When. --Win. With all the hard work done, | :26:14. | :26:29.
it's time to take to the arena. Sadly no silverware this | :26:30. | :26:32.
year but it's looking how | :26:33. | :26:34.
pipe music can have such a positive effect on communities, | :26:35. | :26:50.
and they certainly looked Now it's time to take a look | :26:51. | :26:51.
at the how the juveniles got from the juvenile grade, | :26:52. | :26:56.
and let's take a look at who picked up the winner's trophy | :26:57. | :30:12.
at the end of the day. it is close at the top. Going | :30:13. | :30:20.
straight into the medley. It's an excellent introduction by | :30:21. | :32:03.
the band. How does feel in your bones? Can do | :32:04. | :33:07.
it again? I think so. It is down to what the other bands play and what | :33:08. | :33:11.
the judges think but I think it is going well. There is a chance. Maybe | :33:12. | :33:17.
an outside chance, we are definitely not the favourites but we weren't | :33:18. | :33:20.
favourites last year either so who knows? | :33:21. | :34:59.
You just heard something very, very special. | :35:00. | :35:31.
You are the fairy tale, the young band moving up the rankings. Is this | :35:32. | :35:39.
the year of the happy ending? We are in the best position this year than | :35:40. | :35:43.
we have ever been, no doubt. It is out of our control so we do not | :35:44. | :35:48.
know. We would love it to be but it is out of our control, can't do | :35:49. | :35:52.
anything except play our very best and see what happens. The worlds is | :35:53. | :36:01.
the pinnacle of competition and you want to be at your best at the best | :36:02. | :36:05.
time and I think we've achieved that and I think that is why we are so | :36:06. | :36:08.
excited and maybe a little emotional. | :36:09. | :37:12.
You know, there is a stage when I step out and I could really hear how | :37:13. | :37:20.
the band is sounding and it was sounding good. What happens now? Do | :37:21. | :37:27.
you go back and talk over every bar? You go back and analyse things a | :37:28. | :37:31.
little bit but the thing is it has been a long, hard week and weekend | :37:32. | :37:36.
and the guys are pretty exhausted so they will have two relax and reflect | :37:37. | :37:40.
on everything we have done. This is such a prestigious | :37:41. | :37:45.
competition and there are plenty of spectators travelling | :37:46. | :37:48.
near and far to get a taste of the wonderful atmosphere | :37:49. | :37:50.
here on Glasgow Green. What is it about pipe bands that | :37:51. | :38:05.
draws you hear? It is just great. It is for all ages, further children as | :38:06. | :38:10.
well, it is fantastic to be involved and part of something as big as | :38:11. | :38:15.
this, it is fantastic, really. Who are you and where are you from? We | :38:16. | :38:23.
are a pipe band from Zimbabwe. What brings you here? It is an amazing | :38:24. | :38:30.
combination of all the work that brings people here. What about the | :38:31. | :38:38.
march past? It gets us pumped up to play with all those bands, 248 | :38:39. | :38:45.
think. We are from Canada so our favourite band is Simon Fraser | :38:46. | :38:51.
University. Our local favourite is Inveraray. Inveraray! The | :38:52. | :39:01.
atmosphere, we love coming here. I am going to go for a New Zealand | :39:02. | :39:10.
band, Manawatu or New Zealand Police. I will go for Inveraray. Who | :39:11. | :39:20.
are you going for? Field Marshal Montgomery. They're just so good. | :39:21. | :39:28.
Who is going to win? Field Marshal Montgomery. Spirit Of Scotland. This | :39:29. | :39:47.
is the winner of Pipe Idol. They pick one person from everyday and | :39:48. | :39:55.
their is a final. And you won. Yes. Are you enjoying yourself? It is | :39:56. | :40:02.
great. We are going for Field Marshal Montgomery. Them or | :40:03. | :40:07.
Inveraray. A lot of people think it could be Inveraray. They have been | :40:08. | :40:09.
doing well. Enjoy your day. Lovely to see everyone | :40:10. | :40:15.
enjoying the spectacle. Now let's get back to | :40:16. | :40:16.
what we all here for. Here is St Laurence O'Toole with | :40:17. | :40:24.
their medley. From my angle it was tough but it | :40:25. | :40:45.
seemed there was a double drone. Just listen to this superb | :40:46. | :41:22.
percussion accompaniment. To be honest, when I took over the | :41:23. | :41:59.
band, we had a three-year plan, an ambitious plan, and after the first | :42:00. | :42:04.
year, we knew we were on track and the second year we were closer to | :42:05. | :42:07.
being on track. But pipe bands can change like the weather. Was year | :42:08. | :42:16.
three to win? Yes, but it was an ambitious plan so let's see how it | :42:17. | :42:17.
goes today. Another superbly orchestrated | :42:18. | :42:43.
movement. Its a really musical play, | :42:44. | :43:16.
everything was well integrated and the sound was really good in the | :43:17. | :43:21.
circle, hopefully as good outside. It felt like a really special round. | :43:22. | :44:19.
I don't think I've ever seen a band finish a performance with so much | :44:20. | :44:28.
emotion. Well, it is a special day with Jim retiring. So many tears. I | :44:29. | :44:37.
don't think people would think of piping having that much emotion. To | :44:38. | :44:44.
try and get to the level we got to in such a short space of time has | :44:45. | :44:53.
demanded a lot of effort and work, so it is the culmination of that, | :44:54. | :44:56.
and also sadness to see Jim retiring. And your post performance | :44:57. | :45:05.
analysis? I am delighted with it, I think it was our best performance of | :45:06. | :45:08.
the entire year and it was great just to put that out for that last | :45:09. | :45:12.
occasion. You will have us all bubbling. You are all supposed to be | :45:13. | :45:22.
big, brave men! You know what they say about big, brave men! And | :45:23. | :45:29.
emotional time for you. Yes but we were doing it for each other so we | :45:30. | :45:34.
did hold on and once we stopped it started to hit everybody. We have | :45:35. | :45:39.
been friends for years and they came back to playing with me for my last | :45:40. | :45:43.
year. And some of these guys are retiring as well so it is their | :45:44. | :45:48.
swansong as well. It has been a great time. Over 400 competitions in | :45:49. | :45:55.
my career, 50 years. I've met some fantastic able. This is a great | :45:56. | :46:03.
game. It is a mix of young and old and the old get the experience and | :46:04. | :46:06.
their energy from the young and the Young also get the experience from | :46:07. | :46:08.
the old. It is a perfect mix. We're well into the final stages | :46:09. | :46:12.
of the competition now, which means in a short while we'll | :46:13. | :46:14.
find out who is going to claim the title World Pipe | :46:15. | :46:17.
Band Champions 2016. But before that, I'm joined | :46:18. | :46:21.
by former Pipe Major Ian MacLellan, who helped | :46:22. | :46:24.
Strathclyde Police Pipe Band set a record 12 Grade One World | :46:25. | :46:33.
Championship wins over an 11-year You actually first won in 1976. How | :46:34. | :46:47.
has this changed over 40 years? Immensely. One of the biggest things | :46:48. | :46:54.
is the size of the bands. In my day, there were probably only about 12 | :46:55. | :46:58.
pipers and now there are double that amount, and the same with the drums. | :46:59. | :47:03.
It is a far bigger sound. What about the music itself? The march, | :47:04. | :47:12.
Strathspey and Reel has not really changed. They are traditional tunes | :47:13. | :47:17.
which have been played for years and years but the medleys have changed a | :47:18. | :47:21.
great deal over the years. They are a far more adventurous with the | :47:22. | :47:26.
songs and the harmonies and the ensemble with the drum corps has | :47:27. | :47:33.
moved on. Who do you have your expert eye on this year? That would | :47:34. | :47:41.
be committing myself! Four in mind. St Laurence O'Toole, fuelled much | :47:42. | :47:47.
Montgomerie, Inveraray, and Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia. | :47:48. | :47:49.
Here is Greater Glasgow police. Callum Campbell of Benbecula. | :47:50. | :48:12.
This is real playing that will put a smile on your face. Lovely. | :48:13. | :49:40.
I don't think people at home realise just how much even nuanced changes | :49:41. | :49:47.
to the weather affects their instruments. A couple of degrees, | :49:48. | :49:53.
the sun comes out, the cloud cover, it gets flatter, you have to go with | :49:54. | :49:59.
it. What do you say to the rest of the band just before you hit the | :50:00. | :50:03.
arena for the medley? Relax, enjoy it. And can you achieve that? | :50:04. | :50:10.
Sometimes, because of icy anything else it might just disturb them. -- | :50:11. | :50:14.
if I say anything else. Strathspey, that makes our music so | :50:15. | :51:51.
unique, listen to this. Beautifully presented. My desire is to play as | :51:52. | :52:00.
well as we can. That is the goal when I take the band to the line. | :52:01. | :52:05.
Anything after that is out with our control. If we can put in the | :52:06. | :52:09.
performance I know we are capable of, I will be happy, and I'm pretty | :52:10. | :52:14.
happy. The feeling of release must be spectacular. There was a lot of | :52:15. | :52:19.
preparation and planning and thought, practice and rehearsal, | :52:20. | :52:25.
goes into something like that. For every band. To get to this point in | :52:26. | :52:29.
this season is a pretty big release, as you say. | :52:30. | :52:44.
Lovely lift in these Strathspeys. Subtle contrast. | :52:45. | :53:46.
The snares totally on the same page as the pipe core. Here it comes. | :53:47. | :54:15.
Frances Morton's. Listen to the crowd. | :54:16. | :55:10.
CHEERING It says it all. Is it's difficult, | :55:11. | :55:17.
when you are going out, especially for the medley, the last chance, to | :55:18. | :55:23.
rein in the enthusiasm so you don't end up overdoing it? You have to be | :55:24. | :55:29.
controlled in there. Control with a bit of passion so you can feel the | :55:30. | :55:34.
passion coming out in the music, and that's what we tried to do. It is a | :55:35. | :55:40.
fine line. Yes, but they're all great musicians as well and all | :55:41. | :55:42.
great musicians can do that. That's all the music | :55:43. | :55:43.
from the competition complete. The long hours of rehearsing have | :55:44. | :55:48.
led the bands to this moment. of these lot will be crowned | :55:49. | :55:51.
this year's champion. Great won first place, winning the | :55:52. | :56:03.
RSPB Jubilee Trophy and world champions for 2016... Field Marshal | :56:04. | :56:09.
Montgomery. CHEERING | :56:10. | :56:22.
In second place, Inveraray And District. In third place, St | :56:23. | :56:39.
Laurence O'Toole. Richard Parkes, many congratulations. When you left | :56:40. | :56:42.
the arena, did it feel like a world leading performance? Yes, both times | :56:43. | :56:47.
we played we felt we played as good as we could so that is all we can do | :56:48. | :56:51.
and it was up to the judges after that. It was a close fought | :56:52. | :56:57.
competition at the top. Margins are so small at the minute. The top | :56:58. | :57:01.
bands are all very good and there are very slight things that make a | :57:02. | :57:06.
lot of difference. We did all we could today and we are absolutely | :57:07. | :57:10.
over the moon with the result. This is Field Marshal Montgomery's 11th | :57:11. | :57:20.
title. It doesn't get any easier? Harder every year, especially the | :57:21. | :57:24.
older you get! I'm sure you will have a night to remember. Let's hear | :57:25. | :57:30.
it for the world pipe band champions 2016, Field Marshal Montgomery! | :57:31. | :57:31.
CHEERING A return to winning ways | :57:32. | :57:33.
for Field Marshall Montgomery. And the final positions | :57:34. | :57:36.
of the top six. In third place are | :57:37. | :57:38.
St Laurence O'Toole. Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia | :57:39. | :57:42.
finishing this year in fourth. And completing the final six | :57:43. | :57:46.
is Police Scotland Fife. So an emotional end | :57:47. | :57:54.
to a fantastic day. Eight or effect result. They played | :57:55. | :58:06.
as well as any band could play in the medley today. 11 championship | :58:07. | :58:08.
wins for them. Don't forget to go to our website | :58:09. | :58:10.
for lots more coverage of But for now, from Bob | :58:11. | :58:13.
and I and an ecstatic Field Marshal Montgomery | :58:14. | :58:16.
pipe band, goodbye. You're coming across as, frankly, | :58:17. | :59:27.
ridiculous. I'm flabbergasted by that. | :59:28. | :59:32.
Will they get burnt... | :59:33. | :59:36. |
