Over the last few days, we've seen shocking images from Africa.

0:00:050:00:10

Families that have walked for days - weeks -

0:00:100:00:12

in search of food, water and medical help.

0:00:120:00:15

Children, malnourished and sick.

0:00:160:00:19

The graves of mainly young children and babies,

0:00:190:00:22

who didn't reach help in time.

0:00:220:00:25

There is a drought affecting parts of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia

0:00:250:00:29

which is the worst in 60 years, with problems also in South Sudan.

0:00:290:00:33

It hasn't rained properly for two years,

0:00:330:00:36

so crops have failed, livestock have died and food prices have soared.

0:00:360:00:41

More than ten million people are facing starvation.

0:00:410:00:45

These people desperately need your help.

0:00:460:00:49

The Disasters Emergency Committee, or DEC - an umbrella organisation

0:00:490:00:54

that unites 14 major UK humanitarian aid agencies -

0:00:540:00:58

has launched an emergency appeal

0:00:580:01:00

to get aid to people affected by the drought.

0:01:000:01:03

DEC members and their partners are already on the ground

0:01:030:01:06

and doing what they can.

0:01:060:01:08

But to help the vast numbers of people affected,

0:01:080:01:10

they need your donation.

0:01:100:01:12

Dadaab in Kenya, the largest refugee camp in the world,

0:01:120:01:17

is seeing 1,300 people arrive from neighbouring Somalia every day.

0:01:170:01:22

One in three children arriving in the camp

0:01:220:01:25

is suffering from acute malnutrition.

0:01:250:01:27

But not everyone can get to a camp.

0:01:270:01:31

What about the millions of others we are not seeing or hearing?

0:01:310:01:34

Charities need to be able to deliver food and water to remote villages,

0:01:340:01:38

to seek out children who are on the brink of starvation

0:01:380:01:41

and give them emergency care.

0:01:410:01:43

This help is desperately needed - the next rains could be months away,

0:01:430:01:46

and by then it will be far too late for many.

0:01:460:01:49

The DEC will use your donation to provide safe drinking water,

0:01:490:01:53

emergency food parcels

0:01:530:01:55

and vaccinations to prevent outbreaks of disease.

0:01:550:01:59

This is a humanitarian crisis happening now,

0:01:590:02:02

so the DEC needs us to act now to stop this becoming a disaster.
