breaking news, the stunning new development. The armed intruder who

broke into the White House, carrying a knife, his car full of

ammunition. How far did he really get, just minutes from the first

family. Deadly eruption, the pictures coming in of the volcano

exploding without warning. Rescuers threatened by poisonous gas. How

many could be trapped and is there any hope? And an American idea, why

didn't we think of this? You can take these cameras anywhere so we

took it to the top of the Empire State Building. Don't look down.

World News tonight starts now. Good evening. It is great to have you

with us here on a Monday night and we begin with the breaking news. New

revelations about that White House intruder. You will remember the

stunning images of a man sprinting across the White House lawn carrying

a knife. Officials say at the time the intruder got through the front

or and not much further. But now a different port of that day. We know

he made it much further into the White House just minutes after the

President and the first family had left. It raises troubling questions

about security at the White House and why the Secret Service didn't

reveal it at the start. Our justice correspondent leaving us off. The

suspect seen in this video running towards the White House got much

deeper inside than the Secret Service first disclosed. Sources

tell ABC news when Omar Gonzales burst through the unlocked front or

of the White House he overpowered the first Secret Service officer.

Gonzales, who was carrying a knife, then raced through a flight of

stairs leading to the living quarters. He entered the East room,

a formal setting which has been the scene of history, presidential

addresses and meetings. He was tackled by an officer at the far end

of the East room, some 80 feet inside. He got deep enough that had

the President, Vice President, or any of a number of individuals been

walking the hallways, they could have been attacked by Mr Gonzales.

Tomorrow the director is set to appear before a committee. She will

face severe questions about how such a breach could happen. The basics of

the White House, locking the doors and having comp at mental security,

appears to have failed because of the human element headed by the

secret service `` comp at mental. And now there are questions about

why it details of the bridge were not disclosed. `` compartmental. The

story keeps changing. We were told he was alarmed, and he had a knife.

We were told he didn't get inside the White House, that clearly was

not correct. We cross to our chief White House correspondent. He

reported that the time that the President had left just four and its

the first family if they had been at home, which makes it all the more

incredible that the President and his daughters had left just four

minutes before the intruder jumped over the fence. The first Lady had

House is the President still has confidence in the Secret Service but

make no mistake he is personally keeping track of this investigation.

In fact he called the head of the Secret Service into the Oval Office

a few days ago to get an update. We turn around the world to Japan, and

the dramatic new images of the moment a volcano erupts without

Now the NU development in the case of the missing college student. This

tape shows the night Hannah vanished. The man seen on the tape

is under arrest and authorities revealed forensics evidence that

might link this case with another mystery, a college student who

disappeared years earlier and was found murdered.

The, Virginia police leave Jesse Matthew, charged and jailed on the

disappearance of Hannah Graham, might have had something to do with

the 2009 disappearance of Morgan Harrington. Her parents have been

trying to connect the hospital assistant and football coach to

their tour to's case. We know where Morgan is. Hannah Graham is still

missing. Harrington was a student at Virginia Tech, visiting Virginia Uni

48 Metallica concert when she went missing. A farmer a Charlottesville

discovered her body three months later in January 2010. Police and

revealing how the disappearances are connected, only that it is a

significant break in this case with a new forensically and to pursue.

2009. It is possible there is a third case. DNA evidence from

Harrington's case linked with a sexual assault of a 26`year`old

woman in DC in 2005, survived. Graham has been missing more than a

This evening, the CDC investigating reports of paralysis in children

with a case linked today. Is this virus link? `` that linked?

Colorado confirmed they have ten cases of patients suffering

respiratory illness developing symptoms of paralysis. This spectrum

is varying from mild weakness in one limb to weakness in all limbs. The

ages range from 1`18, all of them at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Investigators with the CDC want to know if this complication can be

blamed on a rare outbreaks of enterovirus de 68. So far they don't

know. Doctors around the country top us they are watching for similar

symptoms in Kansas City. We have three cases that were focused on

that have limb weakness presentation. These have occurred in

the last two weeks or so. Cleveland. We will be on the lookout for kids

presenting with neurological symptoms. And Michigan. In four

weeks, we have seen a rise in the number of children presenting with

these symptoms. Doctors say Colorado patients are receiving physical

therapy though they don't know if the symptoms will go away. The rest

the Tory symptoms will resolve. They will be healthy. The question is how

any of them will have permanent neurologic damage or not `` rest but

true symptoms. Officials in Virginia and Alabama have seen cases of

paralysis. Until doctors figure out what is causing these cases,

emergency rooms at this one will be very busy `` respiratory.

Morgan, saying: In June, this Walmart driver

allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of according to prosecutors. He

crashed into the limousine Morgan was riding in on this turnpike. The

lawsuit claimed: Morgan spent five weeks in hospital.
