years have been released in an effort to defuse | :00:22. | :00:28.
They show the Prime Minister had a taxable income of more | :00:29. | :00:32.
than ?200,000 last year and paid over ?70,000 in tax. | :00:33. | :00:39.
But questions are now being asked about a ?200,000 gift | :00:40. | :00:42.
from Mr Cameron's mother following his father's death. | :00:43. | :00:44.
Our Political Correspondent Tom Bateman reports. | :00:45. | :00:48.
It has been, by his own admission, not a great week | :00:49. | :00:51.
Questions about his financial affairs led to five separate | :00:52. | :01:01.
statements from him or his officials over several days. | :01:02. | :01:03.
And then last night a first in British politics, | :01:04. | :01:05.
the Prime Minister published details of his income and his tax payments. | :01:06. | :01:09.
The protesters had wanted information about David Cameron's | :01:10. | :01:12.
finances, so what do the accounts tell us? | :01:13. | :01:14.
Last year, his income was just over ?200,000. | :01:15. | :01:20.
140,000 of that was his salary as Prime Minister. | :01:21. | :01:24.
He made nearly ?47,000 renting out his London home. | :01:25. | :01:26.
A further ?12,800 were declared as expenses. | :01:27. | :01:32.
Much of the focus has been on the money David Cameron | :01:33. | :01:36.
received after the death of his father six years ago. | :01:37. | :01:39.
We already knew he received ?300,000 from his will, | :01:40. | :01:42.
but we now know he got a further ?200,000 from his mother in two | :01:43. | :01:45.
Downing Street denied suggestions this was done to minimise | :01:46. | :01:51.
Instead it was to share the inheritance more fairly | :01:52. | :01:56.
The Prime Minister has now taken the unprecedented step of more | :01:57. | :02:08.
disclosure. I think the people who definitely need to do this are the | :02:09. | :02:12.
Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. I know Jeremy Corbyn | :02:13. | :02:15.
says he will do it but I don't think he has done it yet. Labour accept it | :02:16. | :02:19.
the money gifted to Mr Cameron by his mother was within the rules but | :02:20. | :02:23.
they claim it highlights a wider problem. This is about the system, | :02:24. | :02:27.
and a system whereby somebody can effectively inherit ?500,000 from | :02:28. | :02:32.
his mother and father and not pay a penny on it, there is something | :02:33. | :02:36.
wrong in the system that allows that to happen. Downing Street has shone | :02:37. | :02:40.
a light on David Cameron's finances, hoping the message will be received | :02:41. | :02:44.
that there is nothing to see here. But Labour want the Prime Minister | :02:45. | :02:48.
to make a statement in Parliament when MPs return this week. For now, | :02:49. | :02:52.
difficult questions and headlines will not go away. Tom Bateman, BBC | :02:53. | :02:53.
News. With me now is our Political | :02:54. | :02:55.
Correspondent Carole Walker. He's hoping this row | :02:56. | :02:57.
will now go away - will it? Indeed, but I think what Downing | :02:58. | :03:04.
Street are hoping is that by putting out all this information I can start | :03:05. | :03:07.
to get on the front foot as Parliament returns tomorrow. Labour | :03:08. | :03:12.
are still pushing for more details. They say that we haven't got the | :03:13. | :03:17.
full tax returns, we don't know the source of the ?200,000 gift from | :03:18. | :03:22.
David Cameron's mother. We need a much wider enquiry into Whaley | :03:23. | :03:26.
International tax havens work and so on. That'll be argued over the | :03:27. | :03:32.
coming weeks and months. It's cleared the move has opened up the | :03:33. | :03:39.
efforts to make the whole system more transparent. Jeremy Corbyn this | :03:40. | :03:43.
morning even suggested that all politicians and indeed journalists | :03:44. | :03:47.
who interview them, should publish their own tax returns. That might | :03:48. | :03:51.
not happen overnight, but I think there will now be pressure for much | :03:52. | :03:57.
wider reform to include a lot more transparency right across our tax | :03:58. | :03:58.
and political system. More than a hundred people have been | :03:59. | :04:01.
killed by an explosion and blaze at a temple in Southern | :04:02. | :04:04.
India. The blast in Paravur | :04:05. | :04:05.
in the state of Kerala, is thought to have been | :04:06. | :04:07.
caused by an explosion Our correspondent | :04:08. | :04:09.
Andy Moore reports. Thousands of people had gathered | :04:10. | :04:14.
at the temple in the early hours of the morning to watch a fireworks | :04:15. | :04:18.
competition between A spark ignited a store | :04:19. | :04:19.
of fireworks, causing Witnesses say the roof | :04:20. | :04:24.
of the temple collapsed. The blast was felt | :04:25. | :04:29.
over a kilometre away. Piles of unexploded fireworks | :04:30. | :04:32.
were left in the debris. Officials say the display had gone | :04:33. | :04:36.
ahead despite being denied permission because of safety | :04:37. | :04:40.
concerns, an account confirmed TRANSLATION: A woman living | :04:41. | :04:42.
near the temple had obtained a court ruling against the organisers | :04:43. | :04:48.
of the firework display. The display caused damage | :04:49. | :04:51.
to her home, but people wanted to see the fireworks, | :04:52. | :04:54.
so the temple authorities reached a compromise and | :04:55. | :04:56.
decided to go ahead. Throughout the night, | :04:57. | :04:59.
a fleet of ambulances ferried hundreds of injured | :05:00. | :05:02.
people to local hospitals. Doctors said they were overwhelmed, | :05:03. | :05:04.
having to treat casualties with serious injuries and more | :05:05. | :05:07.
than 50% burns. In daylight, the rescue | :05:08. | :05:11.
mission continued, and more A team of specialist medics | :05:12. | :05:13.

into how the disaster happened, but it may be difficult to crack | :05:33. | :05:37.
down on rich and powerful temples that compete to stage | :05:38. | :05:41.
spectacular fireworks displays Belgian prosecutors say the group | :05:42. | :05:44.
that carried out the Brussels attacks had initially been planning | :05:45. | :05:54.
a new attack on France. Mohamed Abrini - | :05:55. | :05:57.
who was arrested on Friday - has reportedly said the attackers | :05:58. | :05:59.
switched their target to the Belgian capital, | :06:00. | :06:02.
after being surprised by the fast-moving investigation | :06:03. | :06:04.
being carried out by authorities. to disperse hundreds | :06:05. | :06:22.
of migrants who tried to scale Some responded by throwing | :06:23. | :06:26.
stones at police. The incident took place | :06:27. | :06:30.
near the Idomeni border crossing, where more than 11,000 | :06:31. | :06:32.
people have been stranded after the Balkan states closed off | :06:33. | :06:34.
the migrant route to northern Bernie Sanders' campaign to become | :06:35. | :06:37.
the Democratic Party Presidential candidate has received another | :06:38. | :06:40.
boost. He came first in the | :06:41. | :06:41.
party's Wyoming Caucus - It's his seventh victory | :06:42. | :06:43.

a clear overall lead. The key New York Primary | :06:47. | :06:48.

England says junior doctors will cause irreparable damage | :06:52. | :06:53.
to the profession, if their strike action extends to emergency | :06:54. | :06:55.
care later this month. Sir Bruce Keogh, writing | :06:56. | :06:57.
in the Observer, says the planned walkout in England - | :06:58. | :07:00.
in a dispute about a new contract - will put significant | :07:01. | :07:03.
strain on services. There have been four junior doctors' | :07:04. | :07:06.
strikes so far in England. They have affected routine | :07:07. | :07:15.
but not urgent care. Later this month the action will be | :07:16. | :07:17.
escalated to include all forms Sir Bruce Keogh says this | :07:18. | :07:19.
is a watershed moment for the NHS. In his Observer article | :07:20. | :07:26.
he says: Doctors are By withdrawing emergency cover | :07:27. | :07:29.
we risk crossing a line which will irreparably damage this | :07:30. | :07:34.
trust and the reputation He says the new action will put | :07:35. | :07:37.
additional significant strain on A, intensive care | :07:38. | :07:44.
and maternity services. With our sickest and most vulnerable | :07:45. | :07:47.
patients at greater risk. Sir Bruce does note that junior | :07:48. | :07:50.
doctors feel disengaged and powerless to change difficult | :07:51. | :07:53.
working conditions and are supported He says all parties are responsible | :07:54. | :07:56.
for solving the underlying issues. The British Medical Association | :07:57. | :08:03.
said junior doctors' concerns had been ignored, | :08:04. | :08:06.
so they had no choice. A spokesman said future action | :08:07. | :08:10.
was avoidable if the Government got back round the table and ended | :08:11. | :08:14.
the dispute through talks and that senior doctors would provide | :08:15. | :08:18.
emergency care on the strike days. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge | :08:19. | :08:23.
have met survivors of the 2008 Mumbai attacks at the start | :08:24. | :08:29.
of a seven-day tour The couple laid a wreath | :08:30. | :08:32.
at the city's Taj Palace Hotel, which was the focus | :08:33. | :08:36.
of the terrorists' assault. It's the first Royal | :08:37. | :08:38.
tour in two years for Our Royal Correspondent Nicholas | :08:39. | :08:41.
Witchell reports from Mumbai. It promises to be one of the most | :08:42. | :08:47.
ambitious foreign tours they've undertaken - | :08:48. | :08:50.
a week in India. William and Catherine, | :08:51. | :08:53.
minus George and Charlotte, who've stayed in Britain, | :08:54. | :08:55.
arriving at the first stop The tour is starting in Mumbai, | :08:56. | :08:57.
at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, A sombre moment as the couple met | :08:58. | :09:06.
hotel staff who were on duty when the hotel was attacked | :09:07. | :09:12.
by Al-Qaeda linked extremists More than 30 people | :09:13. | :09:14.
were killed at the hotel. Another 130 died in rampaging | :09:15. | :09:19.
attacks elsewhere in Mumbai. William and Catherine placed | :09:20. | :09:22.
a wreath in their memory. Over the next seven days, | :09:23. | :09:29.
they will see the many sides of modern India - | :09:30. | :09:34.
a nation where growing economic power coexists | :09:35. | :09:37.
with widespread deprivation. And they'll be reminded | :09:38. | :09:40.
of the interwoven histories No longer is it a relationship | :09:41. | :09:42.
in which Britain is India matters to Britain | :09:43. | :09:47.
economically more and more. Now, Royals don't talk | :09:48. | :09:53.
about trade or politics, but a visit such as this can do | :09:54. | :09:56.
a lot to foster The visit will conclude next | :09:57. | :09:59.
Saturday at the Taj Mahal - a place many still associate | :10:00. | :10:07.
with William's mother Diana and her visit to the | :10:08. | :10:09.
monument 24 years ago. By then, William and Catherine | :10:10. | :10:13.
will hope to have played a part in underpinning the sometimes | :10:14. | :10:17.
complex relationship You can see more on all of today's | :10:18. | :10:21.
