In the past hour, the Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump

has said he won't quit the race for the White House

despite the furore over his lewd comments about women.

In a tape from 11 years ago, he's heard bragging about using his

celebrity status to grope women - comments which have attracted

widespread condemnation from his own party.

He's apologised, but insists he'll fight on.

Social media went into meltdown. The Republican leadership variously

describing his comment is sickening, repugnant and abhorrent. Hours last

night, Donald Trump was totally isolated. And then this: I never

said I was a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone I am not. I

have said and done things I regret, and the words that are released

today on this more than a decade old video one of them. Anybody who knows

me knows these words do not reflect who I am. I said it. I was wrong.

And I apologise. But very quickly, contrition turned to defiance. Bill

Clinton has abused women, and Hillary Clinton has abused, attacked

and ashamed his victims. We will talk more about this in the coming

days. See you at the debate on Sunday. But that threat to fight

dirty is not what a lot of Republican senators and congressmen

want to hear. They are now fearful about their own political survival

and worry that Donald Trump will cost them their careers. Some are

getting ready to abandon him. Others cross that line last night. It is

sad, but I can't endorse Donald Trump for president after those

comments and the way he said. There is no way I am voting for Hillary

Clinton, but I can no longer endorse Donald Trump for president, I can't

do it. Donald Trump will take to the stage tomorrow for the second

presidential debate, his presidential ambitions seriously

damaged, and a Republican party deeply uneasy.

Jon, could Donald Trump be forced to stand down?

I think if there was an easy way for the Republican party to dump trump,

there are many in the party would love that option, but it is more

complicated than that. We have already had more people coming out

today saying that he should go, the New Hampshire senator said that and

others as well. But people have already started voting in several

states. Barack Obama cast his vote yesterday, and Donald Trump has said

there is zero chance he is quitting. That said, Donald Trump said in that

clip that we have just played anybody who knows me knows that is

not who I am, in reference to the remarks he made. A lot of

Republicans are hoping there are no more tapes, no more women, who are

going to contradict that. Jon, thank you.

German police have arrested three people in connection

with their search for a Syrian-born man suspected of

A raid of an apartment in the eastern city of Chemnitz,

where the suspect was thought to be hiding, led to the discovery

of what they call "highly explosive materials".

Our Europe correspondent Damian Grammaticas reports.

This is the man being hunted by German police, Jaber Albakr.

He is 22 years old, from Damascus in Syria.

Germany's security services say they have to assume he's dangerous.

They believe he may have been planning a bomb attack.

It was a tip-off from Germany's intelligence services that

They raided the apartment in Chemnitz, and found

Jaber Albakr had already gone, but hidden inside the property,

they uncovered explosives, possibly evidence of a bomb being prepared.

now is on the manhunt for the perpetrator,

German police say the explosives are dangerous, and will probably

have to be destroyed where they are, so they have been

And of course this all comes at a time when the issue of refugees and

security in Germany is upmost in peoples minds. There were attacks

back in July which caused serious injuries, one on a rock concert, one

on a train, both by refugees. In this instance, police say they found

highly explosive material which was extremely dangerous and unstable.

One thing they have not clarified his when this man, Jaber Albakr,

arrived in Germany. Was he a recent arrival among a recent wave of

refugees, has he been never longer? German media are reporting he was a

recent arrival, but they haven't clarified that point while they

continue to search for him. David, thank you.

More than 900 people are now believed to have been killed

by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, and officials warn the death toll

could rise further as rescue teams reach cut-off areas.

The hurricane has now weakened to a Category One storm as it

continues to make its way along the south-eastern coast of the US

This is Jeremie, a town of 30,000 people torn apart

It has been cut off from the rest of the country for several days.

Only now is aid beginning to arrive by air.

In the US, the hurricane hit a glancing blow along

tides on record, flooding many low-lying areas.

The National Hurricane Centre says the storm has now made landfall

in South Carolina and serious inland flooding is expected.

There's been another twist in the controversy which left

the Ukip MEP Steven Woolfe in hospital following an altercation

Mr Woolfe, who collapsed in the European Parliament

on Thursday, says expert examination suggests his injuries

are inconsistent with just a fall or seizure.

Mr Hookem has insisted that no punches were thrown,

and that the incident was just a scuffle.

UK Anti-Doping officials have visited the headquarters

of British Cycling and Team Sky as part of an investigation

into allegations of wrongdoing in the sport.

It's been confirmed that two members of UK Anti-Doping staff went

to the National Cycling Centre in Manchester yesterday.

They say British cycling's co-operating fully, while a Team Sky

statement said it had been "a challenging few weeks",

but that they were "confident there had been no wrongdoing".

Johanna Konta has become the first British woman to break

into the world's top ten in tennis for over 30 years after

she reached the final of the China Open in Beijing.

It took more than two and a half hours for her to beat

the American Madison Keys in three sets.
