Donald Trump is defiant tonight, despite widespread anger over his

The Republican nominee says it won't stop his presidential campaign,

but apologises after the recording of him bragging about groping women.

Anyone who knows me knows these words don't reflect who I am.

I said it, I was wrong and I apologise.

A number of prominent Republicans have urged him to stand down -

his wife called his lewd comments "offensive".

Also tonight: Police in Germany hunt for a Syrian man they suspect

of planning a bomb attack after explosives

Hurricane Matthew leaves nearly 900 people dead and hundreds

of thousands in need of help in Haiti.

His comments emerged in a video from 11 years ago and have attracted

widespread criticism from within his own party -

Social media went into meltdown, with even Trump's running mate

has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims.

But that sort of threat to fight dirty is not what a lot

of Republican senators and congressmen want to hear.

They're now fearful about their own political survival,

and worry that Donald Trump is going to cost them their careers.

Some are getting ready to abandon him.

It's sad, but I can't endorse Donald Trump for president

after those comments and the way he said them.

There's no way I'm voting for Hillary Clinton,

but I can no longer endorse Donald Trump for president.

And even Melania Trump has joined the chorus of condemnation.

"The words my husband used are unacceptable

This doesn't represent the man that I know.

He has the heart and mind of a leader.

I hope people will accept his apology, as I have".

Donald Trump will take to the stage tomorrow for the second

presidential debate, his presidential ambitions seriously

If there was a simple mechanism, a magic wand that could be waived to

make Donald Trump disappear, I think there are many in the Republican

leadership who would say, let's take it. A whole slew of Republican

congressmen and women, senators and others have come out today saying

that Donald Trump should stand down. It is clear that there are tensions

at the top of the ticket between Mr Trump and Mike pence. So yes, there

are a lot of people who want to go. But against that, you have the

complications. There is rule nine of the constitution of the Republican

party, which does allow you to replace a candidate, but the

candidate needs to go voluntarily. Donald Trump has said he's not going

to do that. You have also got the situation that voting has started in

an awful lot of places, you have the US military who have started casting

their ballots. What happens to all those votes if Donald Trump isn't

going to play ball? You also have the millions of Trump supporters who

want him to stay in the fight, all of which leaves the Republican

leadership in a position where they are furious, where they are in

turmoil and ultimately powerless to do anything about it. Thank you.

German police have arrested three people in connection

with their search for a Syrian-born man suspected of

He's 22 years old, from Damascus in Syria, and German police said

In Yemen, rebel officials say more than 80 people have been killed

Houthi rebels said the hall had been hit by an air strike carried out

by the Saudi-led coalition, which backs the Yemeni government.

The coalition has denied carrying out a strike.

Thousands of civilians have been killed since the war

by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti and officials warn the death toll

could rise further as rescue teams reach cut off areas.

Tonight, 10 people are reported dead in the United States as the storm -

diminishing in strength - makes its way up the East Coast.

It has been cut off from the rest of the country for several days.

Only now is aid beginning to arrive by air.

The closer we got to Jeremie, the further from Port-au-Prince,

There has been another twist in the controversy which left the Ukip MEP

Steven Woolfe in hospital following an altercation with fellow party MEP

Mike Hookem. Mr Woolfe collapsed at the European Parliament in

Strasbourg on Thursday. He is still in hospital tonight and our

political correspondent Alex Forsyth joins us from there. Alex, what has

Mr Woolfe been saying? Two days after this event, the

details of what occurred between these two MEPs are still unclear.

Yesterday, Mike Hookem described it as no more than a scuffle after a

meeting of MEPs in the European Parliament became heated. He says he

did not punch, hit or slap Mr Woolfe and today he tweeted a picture of

his hands, which he says prove it. But this afternoon, a spokesperson

for Mr Woolfe said experts independent of hospital staff had

examined his injuries and they were inconsistent with just a seizure or

a fall. Now Mr Woolfe remains in the hospital here tonight and is

expected to be released tomorrow at the earliest, but these conflicting

accounts of what has occurred will only escalate tensions in Ukip, a

party already divided, and could fuel critics who claim Ukip is

losing its credibility. Alex, thank you.

Few will remember this game. There has been no Southgate revolution. He

is a familiar face and this might not be the time for more change. We

know what Gareth is about. He has come in and made it clear what he

wants and we all believe in it. This was an unremarkable fixture after a

disappointing summer and in a time of turmoil, but still, people came

to see it in their droves. For Gareth Southgate, a sign perhaps of

his job's potential, but also its pressure. Patrick Gearey, BBC News,

scored an equaliser in the final minute of full-time. Gordon

Strachan's team face Slovakia next on Tuesday night.

Kyle Lafferty scored twice late on as Northern Ireland completed

a 4-0 win over San Marino at Windsor Park.

They play the group leaders Germany next week.

Wigan Warriors have claimed their fourth Super League title

after they came from behind to beat local rivals Warrington

The Wolves also lost the challenge cup final this season and were

hoping to end their long wait for the league title.
