Dozens of the BBC's best known female personalities demand | :00:00. | :00:08.
In an open letter, they call for urgent action, to ensure women | :00:09. | :00:15.
get the same as men for doing the same job. | :00:16. | :00:20.
It's not about getting wacking great pay rises for women | :00:21. | :00:22.
who are already well paid, it's about pay parity and getting | :00:23. | :00:25.
Princes William and Harry speak candidly about their mother, | :00:26. | :00:31.
Princess Diana, 20 years after her death. | :00:32. | :00:37.
All I can hear is her laugh in my head, and that sort of crazy | :00:38. | :00:40.
laugh where there was just pure happiness shown on her face. | :00:41. | :00:48.
It's a revolution in generating power, the world's first floating | :00:49. | :00:50.

Some of the BBC's best known female personalities, | :01:18. | :01:44.
have written an open letter to the corporation's Director- | :01:45. | :01:46.
General, calling for urgent action to ensure women are paid the same | :01:47. | :01:49.
The presenters Claire Balding, Fiona Bruce and Jane Garvey | :01:50. | :01:53.
The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the pay gap was "appalling," | :01:54. | :01:57.
and called for a pay audit of every organisation. | :01:58. | :01:59.
Our Media Correspondent David Sillito reports. | :02:00. | :02:05.
Alex Jones of The One Show, Mishal Husain and Sue Barker, more than 40 | :02:06. | :02:14.
of the most famous female presenters at the BBC, calling on the | :02:15. | :02:19.
corporation to act now to end its gender pay gap. Good morning, | :02:20. | :02:24.
friends, thanks for tuning in... That list was the trigger for the | :02:25. | :02:30.
letter today, publishing the BBC's highest-paid stars. In the top 20 | :02:31. | :02:34.
names was only one woman. The best paid men were being paid more than | :02:35. | :02:37.
twice what the top women were earning. This open letter to The | :02:38. | :02:43.
Papers said that this week's annual report confirmed what many have long | :02:44. | :02:47.
suspected, that women were being paid less than men for the same | :02:48. | :02:52.
work. On the whole, I think it is fantastic that so many wonderful | :02:53. | :02:55.
women have been prepared to put their head above the parapet. We got | :02:56. | :02:59.
stick, we knew we would, that was why it would never be an easy thing | :03:00. | :03:05.
to do. But it isn't just about, it is not about, getting whacking great | :03:06. | :03:13.
pay rises for women who are already well paid. It is about pay parity | :03:14. | :03:16.
and getting then is for everybody. The letter today says that the BBC | :03:17. | :03:18.
has known about the pay disparity for years, we want to go on record | :03:19. | :03:25.
to call upon you to act now. Women's Hour... When programmes such | :03:26. | :03:29.
as Women's Hour went on as 60 years ago, equal pay for equal work was a | :03:30. | :03:34.
pressing issue. The fact it remains an issue despite law changes in the | :03:35. | :03:38.
1960s and 70s after pressures from the women's movement is a sign of | :03:39. | :03:42.
how tough it is to find quick solutions. Attitudes of their age | :03:43. | :03:46.
and experience and authority affect the pay divide, but it is worth | :03:47. | :03:51.
noting that in the top 20 there is not a single black or Asian | :03:52. | :04:01.
presenter. It comes at a time where the BBC is facing opposition over | :04:02. | :04:03.
plans to change terms and conditions for the rest of staff, paid a | :04:04. | :04:06.
fraction of what any star gets. The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn says | :04:07. | :04:09.
this taps into a wider issue of fairness and pay. This gender pay | :04:10. | :04:15.
gap is appalling, we would insist on a strong gender pay audit as every | :04:16. | :04:20.
organisation, and we would also look at a 20-1 ratio between the chief | :04:21. | :04:26.
executive and lowest paid staff in every public sector organisation. In | :04:27. | :04:30.
response, the BBC said today the overall pay gap there is 10%, less | :04:31. | :04:34.
than the national average of 18% but it needed to go further and faster | :04:35. | :04:39.
to close the pay gap. The director-general said he is | :04:40. | :04:42.
confident that next year's figures will look very different. | :04:43. | :04:44.
David Sillito, BBC News. We can speak to our political | :04:45. | :04:47.
correspondent Alex Forsyth... And Alex, as we've seen, | :04:48. | :04:48.
politicians are also calling Yes, there has been condemnation | :04:49. | :04:59.
from several senior politicians about the gap between the highest | :05:00. | :05:04.
paid men and women at the BBC, Justine Greening, equalities | :05:05. | :05:07.
minister, said it was shocking and Prime Minister Theresa May said the | :05:08. | :05:09.
BBC had to look at the whole question of what it paid men and | :05:10. | :05:13.
women. In April this year, the government introduced a new | :05:14. | :05:16.
requirement where any company with more than 250 employees needs to | :05:17. | :05:21.
publish details of the gender pay gap which needs to happen by April | :05:22. | :05:31.
next year. So we will see different sectors coming under the spotlight. | :05:32. | :05:33.
The government hopes that kind of transparency and public pressure | :05:34. | :05:34.
will ensure organisations take action. Labour wants concrete | :05:35. | :05:38.
measures, -- more concrete measures, across-the-board, limiting the | :05:39. | :05:42.
difference between the highest and lowest earners. What is clear is | :05:43. | :05:45.
revelations at the BBC have sparked a wider political debate and one | :05:46. | :05:49.
that is likely to continue for some time. Alex Forsyth, thank you. | :05:50. | :05:53.
Prince William and Prince Harry have spoken candidly | :05:54. | :05:55.
about their relationship with their mother, Princess Diana, | :05:56. | :05:59.
in a documentary marking the 20th anniversary | :06:00. | :06:01.
They describe her sense of fun, but also speak of their regret | :06:02. | :06:05.
that their last conversation with her was a rushed phone call. | :06:06. | :06:07.
Our Royal Correspondent Nicholas Witchell's report, | :06:08. | :06:09.
To the watching world, she was the princess whose image | :06:10. | :06:15.
It was a glamorous but necessarily limited | :06:16. | :06:18.
Now nearly 20 years after Diana's death in the car accident in Paris, | :06:19. | :06:25.
her sons William and Harry have spoken in an ITV documentary | :06:26. | :06:27.
about Diana, the mother who did so much to shape their childhood. | :06:28. | :06:32.
We felt, you know, incredibly loved, Harry and I. | :06:33. | :06:37.
And I'm very grateful that that love still feels there. | :06:38. | :06:43.
It was that love that even if she was on the other side | :06:44. | :06:46.
of the room, as a son you could feel it. | :06:47. | :06:51.
The person who emerges from William and Harry's description is a woman | :06:52. | :06:54.
When everybody says to me, you know, "So, she was fun, | :06:55. | :07:00.
All I can hear is her laugh in my head. | :07:01. | :07:07.
And that sort of crazy laugh where there was just pure | :07:08. | :07:09.
One of her mottos to me was that you can be as naughty as you want, | :07:10. | :07:22.
And they talk about their mother's death. | :07:23. | :07:27.
They recall the last time they spoke to her and they reflect | :07:28. | :07:30.
on the overwhelming public reaction and how they coped with the week | :07:31. | :07:33.
As William himself has said, it is a tribute to Diana | :07:34. | :07:40.
from her sons in which they recall the woman they hope | :07:41. | :07:43.
The head of the powerful trade body that represents all German car | :07:44. | :07:55.

The President of the German Automotive Industry Association | :08:00. | :08:06.
has accused the UK of abandoning pragmatism for ideology | :08:07. | :08:08.
The International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox, has suggested | :08:09. | :08:11.
a transitional deal could last for three years. | :08:12. | :08:13.
Police in Texas say eight people have been found dead, | :08:14. | :08:16.
in a lorry in a supermarket car park, in the city of San Antonio. | :08:17. | :08:20.
Investigators believe they may be linked to people trafficking. | :08:21. | :08:24.
At least two of the victims are children and 28 other people | :08:25. | :08:26.

A 20-year-old man has died in east London, | :08:39. | :08:40.
after a confrontation in a shop with a policeman. | :08:41. | :08:42.
CCTV footage has emerged of the officer wrestling | :08:43. | :08:46.
the man to the floor, in the store in Hackney, | :08:47. | :08:48.
Our Home Affairs Correspondent Daniel Sandford is there... | :08:49. | :08:53.
It has been a painful weekend for this east London community. Rashan | :08:54. | :09:00.
Charles, the young man who died, Western -- was well known and widely | :09:01. | :09:05.
liked. People here conceive that he was involved in criminality, he was | :09:06. | :09:08.
shot and stabbed in the past but they say he did not deserve to die. | :09:09. | :09:11.
The moment when Rashan Charles ran into his local late-night shop | :09:12. | :09:14.
in the early hours of Saturday morning, pursued | :09:15. | :09:16.
At first, the arrest was calm but then the officer threw him | :09:17. | :09:21.
to the floor and grabbed him around the neck. | :09:22. | :09:26.
Later, he was joined by what appears to be a plainclothes officer. | :09:27. | :09:32.
Just over one hour later, Rashan Charles was declared dead | :09:33. | :09:34.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission, | :09:35. | :09:43.
which is examining his death, says an object was removed | :09:44. | :09:46.
As the CCTV from the shop was viewed on social media | :09:47. | :09:51.
by people in Haggerston, there was a growing collection | :09:52. | :09:53.
of flowers and candles today, and growing anger. | :09:54. | :09:57.
Pauline Pearce, who became well-known for chastising | :09:58. | :10:01.
rioters on camera in 2011, told me that she knew Rashan well. | :10:02. | :10:11.
That boy should be alive today, sitting in a cell somewhere able | :10:12. | :10:14.
to tell his side of the story but instead he is laying in a morgue | :10:15. | :10:18.
waiting for an autopsy, and waiting to be buried. | :10:19. | :10:20.
We've got to pick up the pieces, the community has | :10:21. | :10:22.
Many people visiting the shop and the neighbouring | :10:23. | :10:25.
I know him personally, it is disgusting. | :10:26. | :10:34.
The death follows a similar incident last month, | :10:35. | :10:36.
also in east London, there is growing anger here that | :10:37. | :10:38.
young men are dying during arrests, even when no weapons are involved. | :10:39. | :10:50.
This has become a big issue for police. Every death leads to support | :10:51. | :10:58.
for campaigns like Black Lives Matter, which began in America after | :10:59. | :11:02.
numerous shootings of black people there. STUDIO: Daniel Sandford in | :11:03. | :11:05.
east London there, thank you. The world's first floating wind farm | :11:06. | :11:08.
is about to take shape off Tonight, the first of five | :11:09. | :11:11.
turbines arrives there. The revolutionary technology | :11:12. | :11:15.
will float far offshore, generating power from strong sea | :11:16. | :11:18.
winds, to provide energy Our environment analyst | :11:19. | :11:20.
Roger Harrabin has been following the vast turbine's journey | :11:21. | :11:24.
from Norway to Scotland. In the half-light of a summer night | :11:25. | :11:30.
in Norway, a landmark in the history of energy floats upright | :11:31. | :11:34.
in the chilly water. These five towering turbines will | :11:35. | :11:39.
cross the North Sea to Scotland, to form the world's first | :11:40. | :11:42.
large-scale floating wind farm. This is engineering | :11:43. | :11:48.
on an absolutely gargantuan scale. What you can see is | :11:49. | :11:52.
taller than Big Ben. But that's only part of it - | :11:53. | :11:56.
there's a third more under the water, weighted heavily | :11:57. | :11:59.
at the bottom with iron ore, to keep the thing floating | :12:00. | :12:04.
stable in the water. The turbines will be tethered | :12:05. | :12:06.
to the sea bed with thick mooring lines 15 miles off | :12:07. | :12:10.
the coast of Peterhead. Being able to use floating offshore | :12:11. | :12:14.
wind farms gives us much more flexibility when it comes | :12:15. | :12:17.
to locating these farms But a note of caution | :12:18. | :12:23.
among the enthusiasm. Scientists warn that far more | :12:24. | :12:26.
investment in additional new technologies is needed | :12:27. | :12:28.
to combat climate change. This monumental kit comes dear, | :12:29. | :12:35.
but the price should fall. We think that this is a game | :12:36. | :12:38.
changer, this project, for enabling us in the future | :12:39. | :12:41.
to reduce the cost and develop wind The first turbine is hauled | :12:42. | :12:44.
from the fjord by tugs. It's nearly 12,000 tonnes | :12:45. | :12:50.
of steel and ballast. Each blade is as wide | :12:51. | :12:57.
as the wingspan of an Airbus. The power of engineers to capture | :12:58. | :13:03.

It was a sell out at Lord's for their final against India, | :13:29. | :13:31.
Anya Shrubsole won the match for them with six wickets. | :13:32. | :13:35.
There was a time when women's cricket barely even registered | :13:36. | :13:39.
Almost 27,000 would fill Lords, millions more | :13:40. | :13:45.
England won the toss and opted to bat. | :13:46. | :13:54.
The loss of Sarah Taylor handed India the impetus. | :13:55. | :13:57.

Natalie Sciver was providing the promotional material | :14:01. | :14:02.

even when England looked to kick on, moments of Indian magic | :14:06. | :14:08.
Chasing 229 to win, India looked to be cruising and, at one point, | :14:09. | :14:14.
needed just 38 runs with seven wickets in hand. | :14:15. | :14:20.
But England dared to dream and clawed their way back from | :14:21. | :14:22.
Alex Hartley and Anya Shrubsole did the damage, Shrubsole taking six | :14:23. | :14:28.
wickets in a devastating spell that broke India and guided | :14:29. | :14:30.
A breathtaking end to a truly groundbreaking tournament. | :14:31. | :14:42.
This year's Tour de France has finished in the last few minutes. | :14:43. | :14:48.
As is customary, the leader is never challenged on the final stage, | :14:49. | :14:51.
so it's been another victory lap on the Champs Elysees | :14:52. | :14:54.

I think so, there are great scenes on the Champs-Elysees here, Chris | :15:05. | :15:12.
Froome crossed the line and celebrated with Team Sky colleagues, | :15:13. | :15:15.
a difficult year but the chance to put that behind them, the | :15:16. | :15:18.
controversial things we've seen in the last year, and to celebrate. | :15:19. | :15:21.
After more than 83 hours in the saddle, and over 2000 miles of | :15:22. | :15:28.
racing, Chris Froome has earned his champagne. So too his Team Sky | :15:29. | :15:32.
colleagues who, at critical moments in this epic race, were there when | :15:33. | :15:37.
he needed them most. Yesterday's decisive 14 mile time trial in | :15:38. | :15:40.
Marseille sealed a fourth Tour de France victory for him, and as per | :15:41. | :15:46.
tradition, the final stage is a chance to celebrate. Organisers | :15:47. | :15:48.
wanted the race this year to be a closely fought affair and of course | :15:49. | :15:56.
they plotted and delivered on that wish. As the peloton arrives in | :15:57. | :15:59.
Paris, it is Chris Froome who has prevailed once again. | :16:00. | :16:02.
So, the celebrations can truly begin now for Chris Froome, up there just | :16:03. | :16:08.

Our Sports Correspondent, Andy Swiss, is at Royal Birkdale. | :16:45. | :16:47.

At the first hole, a nightmare start for Jordan Spieth while playing | :16:51. | :16:55.
partner Matt Kuchar set about ramping up the pressure. | :16:56. | :17:02.
Spieth was suddenly wilting, and soon the pair were level. | :17:03. | :17:04.
Ahead of them, a brilliant round from China's Haotong Li set | :17:05. | :17:07.
the target, but Jordan Spieth's meltdown continued, blasting so far | :17:08. | :17:11.
right he ended up playing from the nearby practice ground. | :17:12. | :17:16.
For the first time, he was trailing but, | :17:17. | :17:18.

From there, he held on for victory. The most eventful finale is, the | :17:22. | :17:32.
most deserving of champions. We thought it would be a | :17:33. | :17:39.
straightforward win for Jordan Spieth, but it was anything but. At | :17:40. | :17:45.
