Those being made CBEs,
the next highest level of award, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
include actor Hugh Laurie
for services to drama. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
Are you English, Pine? | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
And best-selling Riders
author Jilly Cooper. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:04
Absolutely knocked out. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
I was thrilled. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:07
I couldn't believe it. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
I mean, suddenly to get a letter,
you know, and one thinks "Oh, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
God, it's a bill, a gas
bill or something". | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
And it's this heavenly thing,
saying, "You're a CBE". | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
It's wonderful. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:23
Hull had a hugely successful year
as UK's City of Culture. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Members of the team behind the 12

COMMENTATOR: The pass to Warburton. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
Brilliant catch by the captain! | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
In the world of sport,
Sam Warburton, who has captained | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
Wales and the British
and Irish Lions, is made an OBE. | 0:02:56 | 0:03:01
England cricket players
have been recognised, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
including Anya Shrubsole. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
Her bowling helped England
win the World Cup. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
It really has been a landmark year
and it says a huge amount | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
about the whole tournament
and women's cricket | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
in general, I think. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
It shows how much the game has
grown and just how big | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
that tournament was,
that it's recognised in something | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
like the New Year Honours list. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Most of those being honoured
are ordinary people doing | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
extraordinary work,
like Efe Ezekiel, who acts | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
as a mentor for young people. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
Of course, young people
are everything to me. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
I'm passionate about them
and passionate about their life, | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
their well-being and their welfare. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:36
So for me to be recognised
for my passion is one | 0:03:36 | 0:03:38
of the greatest honours ever,
so I'm in complete | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
gratitude and appreciation. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
The majority of honours do go
to people who aren't | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
in the public eye but who have
given exceptional service. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:52
And in 2018, the honours committee
say they will be looking | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
to particularly recognise
individuals who were involved | 0:03:55 | 0:03:59
in the response to,
and the aftermath, of the London | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
and Manchester terror attacks,
and the fire at Grenfell Tower. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:04

Firefighters are tackling
a blaze in a block of flats | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
in Manchester's Northern Quarter. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:16
The fire is on the ninth floor
and tenth floors of the 12-storey | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
building on Joiner Street. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
Police closed part of the road
and Manchester Fire and Rescue | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
service is asking people to avoid
the area and to keep their doors | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
and windows shut if they are nearby. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:32
In Iran, thousands of people
are rallying in support | 0:04:32 | 0:04:34
of the Government after street
protests against the authorities | 0:04:34 | 0:04:36
entered their third day. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
State television has shown crowds
of people in the capital Tehran. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
The anti-government protests started
in Mashhad and spread to several | 0:04:41 | 0:04:44
parts of the country,
over what demonstrators | 0:04:44 | 0:04:46
say is corruption and
falling living standards. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:48
Our correspondent
Wyre Davies reports. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:56
The third day of protests in Iran,
what began in small cities is now | 0:04:56 | 0:05:01
spreading to the capital Tehran and
the main university campus. These | 0:05:01 | 0:05:05
are worrying signs for the Iranian
government and the ultraconservative | 0:05:05 | 0:05:09
Shia clerics who have rolled over
the country since the 1979 | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
revolution. Shouting for the clerics
to give him a job, this protester | 0:05:12 | 0:05:22
typifies the economic anger felt by
many Iranians, they accuse the | 0:05:22 | 0:05:28
clerics of living in gilded palaces
and sponsoring conflicts overseas | 0:05:28 | 0:05:30
while the economy and the country
suffers. But dissent in Iran is only | 0:05:30 | 0:05:37
tolerated to appoint. Uniformed and
plain clothes police clashed with | 0:05:37 | 0:05:43
protesters and made dozens of
arrests in several cities. I don't | 0:05:43 | 0:05:48
expect the protest to snowball as of
now because the regime has a | 0:05:48 | 0:05:52
response in place and if the
protesters don't stop ultimately the | 0:05:52 | 0:05:57
reaction will become heavy-handed.
We are just not there yet. In a | 0:05:57 | 0:06:03
response on Twitter Donald Trump
want Iran that the world was | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
watching saying that Tehran should
respect people's rights to express | 0:06:06 | 0:06:09
themselves. Comments that the
Iranian Foreign Minister called | 0:06:09 | 0:06:14
opportunistic and deceitful. The
government has warned people not to | 0:06:14 | 0:06:20
take part in what it calls illegal
protests, organising instead large, | 0:06:20 | 0:06:27
pro-regime counterdemonstrations, in
support of the supreme leader. And | 0:06:27 | 0:06:37
the end of two clever -- the end to
clerical role has been a theme of | 0:06:37 | 0:06:44
this demonstration, some of which
has ended in violence. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:49
Nepal has banned solo climbers
from scaling its mountains, | 0:06:49 | 0:06:52
including Mount Everest. | 0:06:52 | 0:06:53
The new safety regulations also
prevent double amputee and blind | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
climbers from attempting to reach
the summit of the world's highest | 0:06:55 | 0:06:58
peak unless they can produce
a medical certificate | 0:06:58 | 0:07:00
proving their fitness. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:01
The government says the law has been
revised to make mountaineering safer | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
and reduce the number
of accidents and deaths. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:08
Younger people will enjoy
the biggest "inheritance boom" | 0:07:08 | 0:07:11
of any post-war generation according
to a research body that | 0:07:11 | 0:07:13
analyses living standards. | 0:07:13 | 0:07:16
The Resolution Foundation says those
born in the 80s and early 90s, | 0:07:16 | 0:07:19
known as millennials,
will inherit more wealth | 0:07:19 | 0:07:20
than previous generations. | 0:07:20 | 0:07:23
There's a snag, though -
they are not likely to benefit | 0:07:23 | 0:07:26
from the money until their 60s,
as our business correspondent | 0:07:26 | 0:07:28
Joe Lynam explains. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:33
We've long been told that
millennials, aged between 17 and 35, | 0:07:33 | 0:07:36
face major financial challenges. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:38
They are paid less
than their parents, | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
they won't have generous pensions,
and they can't get | 0:07:40 | 0:07:42
on the housing ladder. | 0:07:42 | 0:07:45
So we know there's a big
generational wealth divide. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:48
Millennials are accumulating wealth
at a far slower rate than the baby | 0:07:48 | 0:07:51
boomers before them did. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:52
We've looked at whether inheritances
are going to solve | 0:07:52 | 0:07:54
that problem for them. | 0:07:54 | 0:07:55
And they will play
a really big role. | 0:07:55 | 0:07:58
There will be lots more money coming
down in the coming decades. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
And it will be a bit more widely
spread because of high homeownership | 0:08:01 | 0:08:05
amongst the parents. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:08
But this isn't the silver
bullet to millennials' | 0:08:08 | 0:08:10
living standards woes. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:11
It's match day at Sheffield United
and there is always | 0:08:11 | 0:08:13
a sense of anticipation. | 0:08:13 | 0:08:15
But when it comes to money this
study suggests that young people | 0:08:15 | 0:08:18
will have to wait until they're
in their 60s before inheriting | 0:08:18 | 0:08:21
anything, but are they worried? | 0:08:21 | 0:08:24
You put so much work in at uni
and so much into your job, | 0:08:24 | 0:08:27
and you're not going to be able
to own a house and have a house | 0:08:27 | 0:08:31
for your family and I think that's
difficult knowing that. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:33
Knowing that you've got to wait that
length of time in the future. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:36
Well, we'll inherit it
but it was never our | 0:08:36 | 0:08:38
money to begin with. | 0:08:38 | 0:08:39
Exactly. | 0:08:39 | 0:08:40
So I don't suppose it
makes a difference. | 0:08:40 | 0:08:42
Whether we've got to wait or not. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:45
Unless of course I spend
it all before I go. | 0:08:45 | 0:08:48
LAUGHTER Which may happen. | 0:08:48 | 0:08:50
It may happen. | 0:08:50 | 0:08:55
Although millennials are set
to inherit more than any previous | 0:08:55 | 0:08:57
generation thanks to booming
property values, that assumes | 0:08:57 | 0:09:01
that the inheritance is not
spent on social care | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
for their parents or themselves. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:06
Soaring property prices,
especially in the south-east, | 0:09:06 | 0:09:10
lie behind the expected surge
in inheritances in the future. | 0:09:10 | 0:09:13
So if you're in your 30s or younger,
and your parents own property, | 0:09:13 | 0:09:17
then you can expect
to inherit something substantial. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:21
But if your parents don't
own any major assets, | 0:09:21 | 0:09:24
then your future wealth prospects
don't look as good. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:26
