in west London after a car crashed

0:00:100:00:13

into them as they waited

near a bus stop.

0:00:130:00:15

Tributes to the boys -

two of whom have been named

0:00:150:00:18

tonight as Harry Rice

and George Wilkinson.

0:00:180:00:20

The car involved in the crash -

a 28-year-old man who was in it was

0:00:200:00:24

detained by passers-by and has been

arrested.

0:00:240:00:27

Police have appealed to anyone who

saw what happened to get in touch.

0:00:270:00:31

Also on tonight's programme...

0:00:310:00:33

At least 95 people have been killed

and 160 injured in a Taliban bomb

attack in the Afghan capital,

Kabul.

0:00:370:00:45

All current rape and serious sexual

assault cases in England

0:00:500:00:52

and Wales are to be reviewed

after the collapse of

0:00:520:00:55

several recent trials.

And Denmark's Caroline

Wozniacki waits no more -

0:00:560:00:58

she wins her first Grand Slam title

in Melbourne at her 43rd attempt.

0:00:580:01:05

Good evening.

0:01:150:01:16

Police say a car involved in a fatal

crash which killed three teenagers

0:01:160:01:19

at a bus stop in west London last

night is believed to have been

0:01:190:01:23

travelling at high speed.

0:01:230:01:26

Two of the boys have been named

tonight as Harry Rice

0:01:260:01:28

and 16-year-old George Wilkinson.

0:01:280:01:30

A 28-year-old man who was in

the vehicle has been arrested.

0:01:300:01:34

They're searching for a second

man who is also thought

0:01:340:01:37

to have been in the car.

0:01:370:01:38

Let's go now to our correspondent,

Ben Ando, who's at the scene.

0:01:380:01:46

Little more than 24 hours since

three teenage boys died at this bus

0:01:490:01:54

stop after being hit by a car

driving on a stretch of road here in

0:01:540:01:57

west London that is notorious among

locals for speeding drivers. One man

0:01:570:02:03

in the car is under arrest in

hospital and police say another man

0:02:030:02:07

they think was in the car is still

at large, clearly finding him is a

0:02:070:02:11

priority.

0:02:110:02:13

Friends, classmates, mourners.

0:02:130:02:14

Three, two, one...

0:02:140:02:18

Grieving together and improvised

memorial for a tragedy as shocking

0:02:180:02:22

as it was unexpected to mark

the deaths of three teenagers struck

0:02:220:02:26

by a speeding car in Hayes

in Middlesex yesterday evening.

0:02:260:02:34

Two of those who died have been

identified as Harry Rice and George

0:02:360:02:40

Wilkinson.

The identity of the third

teenager, known locally as Josh, has

0:02:400:02:46

not been confirmed.

0:02:460:02:47

Two were 16 years old, the other 17.

0:02:470:02:50

Jake Webb was one of

the first on the scene

0:02:500:02:52

immediately after it happened.

0:02:520:02:53

I seen it happen in front of me.

0:02:530:02:55

There was a bus driver in front

of us and he came over and said,

0:02:550:02:59

yes, there's someone dead

in the road and at that point

0:02:590:03:01

I relayed that to 999

and within five minutes

0:03:010:03:04

an ambulance arrived.

0:03:040:03:09

The boys were walking on the other

side of the road to a party less

0:03:090:03:12

than half a mile away and the car

mounted the curb and had them. Other

0:03:120:03:15

friends with them were unhurt but

saw the whole thing.

0:03:150:03:21

The car, a black Audi,

then came to a halt in the road,

0:03:210:03:24

this image showing the force

of the impact.

0:03:240:03:28

Eyewitnesses say afterwards a man

who was in the car was attacked from

0:03:280:03:31

a nearby garage forecourt.

0:03:310:03:33

Some locals say speeding

cars on this stretch

0:03:330:03:35

of road is nothing new.

0:03:350:03:36

It's a 60mph road and cars,

vehicles drive up here sometimes

0:03:360:03:39

like it's a speed track.

0:03:390:03:42

This road's busy 24-7 and if I'm

honest, I'm surprised there hasn't

0:03:420:03:45

been more accidents along it.

0:03:450:03:49

Police believe two men

were in the crashed car,

0:03:490:03:51

and with many other teenagers

heading to the same party,

0:03:510:03:54

they're appealing for any

witnesses to contact them.

0:03:540:03:58

Ben Ando, BBC News, Hayes.

0:03:580:04:02

All current rape and serious sexual

assault cases in England

0:04:020:04:05

and Wales are to be reviewed

following the collapse

0:04:050:04:07

of several recent trials.

0:04:070:04:10

The Director of Public Prosecutions,

Alison Saunders, said

0:04:100:04:12

it was "a matter of urgency" to make

sure evidence has been

0:04:120:04:15

properly disclosed.

0:04:150:04:18

But the government's chief legal

adviser says there's no evidence

0:04:180:04:20

of "widespread malpractice

or dishonesty" in the

0:04:200:04:22

prosecution system.

0:04:220:04:23

Clive Coleman reports.

0:04:230:04:28

Disclosure of evidence in some

recent highly publicised rape cases

0:04:280:04:32

has gone badly wrong,

but how widespread is the problem?

0:04:320:04:37

In December, Liam Allen's trial

for rape and sexual assault

0:04:370:04:40

collapsed when it emerged evidence

on a computer disc which police

0:04:400:04:45

examined showed messages

from the alleged victim

0:04:450:04:47

pestering him for casual sex.

0:04:470:04:51

And the number of prosecutions

in England and Wales that collapsed

0:04:510:04:55

because of a failure by police

or prosecutors to disclose evidence

0:04:550:04:58

has increased by 70%

in the last two years.

0:04:580:05:02

Now, the Director of

Public Prosecutions,

0:05:020:05:05

Alison Saunders, has ordered

an urgent review of all rape

0:05:050:05:10

and sexual assault cases

and conceded it's likely a number

0:05:100:05:13

will be dropped.

0:05:130:05:15

One of the major problems

is the amount of digital evidence

0:05:150:05:18

on phones and social media.

0:05:180:05:22

It's very apparent that in some

cases, mistakes have been made that

0:05:220:05:25

simply shouldn't have been.

0:05:250:05:26

It's important that when you look

at that kind of case,

0:05:260:05:30

that the prosecutors

and the investigators look

0:05:300:05:32

at social media traffic,

look at text messages that have past

0:05:320:05:36

between the two individuals,

because they can put

0:05:360:05:38

what's happened in a very

significant different light.

0:05:380:05:41

A national disclosure improvement

plan has been published.

0:05:410:05:44

It includes a review

of disclosure training,

0:05:440:05:48

developing a group of specialists

in every police force

0:05:480:05:50

and all multi-media evidence to be

provided to the defence digitally.

0:05:500:05:56

Yesterday here, a people

trafficking case, not a rape

0:05:560:05:59

or sexual assault trial,

collapsed because prosecutors failed

0:05:590:06:02

to disclose critical

evidence to the defence.

0:06:020:06:06

The judge has demanded an urgent

explanation in a case made even more

0:06:060:06:11

shocking by the fact that one

of the young female defendants

0:06:110:06:15

was held in prison for 13 months

during which time she gave birth.

0:06:150:06:20

This problem is systemic

and endemic throughout

0:06:200:06:22

the criminal justice system.

0:06:220:06:24

It's been known about for many years

and it's as a result of chronic

0:06:240:06:27

underfunding of the police,

the prosecution service

0:06:270:06:33

and particularly the

defence lawyers, who've

0:06:330:06:34

suffered years of cuts

0:06:340:06:35

of legal aid.

0:06:350:06:36

If public confidence in our fair

trial system is to be maintained,

0:06:360:06:39

fixing disclosure is now

the criminal justice

0:06:390:06:41

system's biggest challenge.

0:06:410:06:48

A bombing in the Afghan capital,

Kabul, has left 95 people dead

0:06:480:06:51

and 160 people injured.

0:06:510:06:55

The Taliban say they

carried out the attack.

0:06:550:06:57

An emergency vehicle

packed with explosives

0:06:570:06:59

was blown up at a checkpoint.

0:06:590:07:01

From Kabul, Zia Shahreyar reports.

0:07:010:07:07

An ambulance packed

with explosives driven into crowds

0:07:070:07:09

on their way to work.

0:07:090:07:16

The force of the blast shook

the windows off buildings

0:07:160:07:18

at least a mile away.

0:07:180:07:19

Some lower rising

structures collapse.

0:07:190:07:22

A plume of smoke visible

across the city.

0:07:220:07:26

The attacker had driven his vehicle

past the police checkpoint,

0:07:260:07:28

claiming to have a patient inside.

0:07:280:07:32

When guards at a second

checkpoint became suspicious,

0:07:320:07:34

he detonated the bomb.

0:07:340:07:39

TRANSLATION:

I was in an armoured

plated vehicle when suddenly

0:07:390:07:41

there was an explosion.

0:07:410:07:42

I was in the back seat,

my driver was blown out

0:07:420:07:45

on to the ground and injured.

0:07:450:07:47

The area of the attack is home

to foreign embassies and the city's

0:07:470:07:50

police headquarters.

0:07:500:07:53

The road had been closed

to public transport.

0:07:530:07:55

The Taliban claimed responsibility.

0:07:550:07:58

This is their second deadly assault

on the city in the space of a week.

0:07:580:08:03

20 people were killed

in an attack on the

0:08:030:08:05

Intercontinental Hotel last week.

0:08:050:08:09

This evening, work was

continuing to clear the scene

0:08:090:08:11

of the latest bombing.

0:08:110:08:15

This is a very secure area

and security is very tight

0:08:150:08:18

here usually and the question

will be how they got

0:08:180:08:20

through this far.

0:08:200:08:22

The Afghan military,

backed by US air power,

0:08:220:08:26

has intensified its campaign

to drive out the Taliban

0:08:260:08:29

from its rural strongholds.

0:08:290:08:30

But, as today's strike proves,

they're still able to mount deadly

0:08:300:08:33

attacks against civilian targets

in the heart of the

0:08:330:08:36

country's major cities.

0:08:360:08:44

Homes and businesses in Paris

are on high alert as the River Seine

0:08:460:08:49

threatens to overflow its banks.

0:08:490:08:50

Weeks of rain have pushed the water

level up and its thought the river

0:08:500:08:53

will peak six metres above normal.

0:08:530:08:55

Museums including the

Louvre have been shut.

0:08:550:08:58

In smaller towns along the Seine,

people are having to use boats

0:08:580:09:01

to get around flooded streets.

0:09:010:09:05

One of the world's richest men,

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal,

0:09:050:09:08

has become the latest high-profile

figure to be released

0:09:080:09:10

in Saudi Arabia after a major

anti-corruption drive

0:09:100:09:12

was launched in November.

0:09:120:09:16

A Saudi official has said

that the prince was released

0:09:160:09:18

after a settlement was approved

by the state prosecutor.

0:09:180:09:22

But the prince said no charges

were brought against him and no

0:09:220:09:25

deals had been done.

0:09:250:09:26

Our Arab affairs editor,

Sebastian Usher, reports.

0:09:260:09:31

Just hours before his release,

Prince Alwaleed gave his first

0:09:310:09:35

interview from the gilded cage

of the Ritz Carlton hotel.

0:09:350:09:40

In hard cash terms,

he has been the biggest

0:09:400:09:42

catch of the Saudi purge.

0:09:420:09:48

The idea of a man worth

$17 billion being reduced

0:09:480:09:50

to sleeping on a mattress

while bargaining for his freedom has

0:09:500:09:54

been a powerful one,

and an image he was keen to dispel

0:09:540:09:57

as he gave a tour of the suite

where he was held in recent weeks.

0:09:570:10:01

I have been all the time

here at this hotel.

0:10:010:10:03

It has been fine.

0:10:030:10:06

I have exercised,

I stretch, I swim, I walk.

0:10:060:10:11

I have my old iPhone,

so it's like home.

0:10:110:10:14

I call my family every day.

0:10:140:10:16

I'm in touch with

the office every day.

0:10:160:10:23

Everything is functioning.

0:10:230:10:26

The Saudi Attorney General has said

that 90 detainees have been released

0:10:260:10:30

so far after charges were dropped

against them while others have

0:10:300:10:32

reached financial settlements

to win their freedom.

0:10:320:10:35

Around 90 are believed

to still be in detention.

0:10:350:10:38

Some will go to prison

and face trial.

0:10:380:10:41

The man behind the anti-corruption

drive is the Crown Prince,

0:10:410:10:46

Mohammad bin Salman.

0:10:460:10:48

It's part of his ambitious plan

to transform the country,

0:10:480:10:50

economically and socially.

0:10:500:10:58

Finally weaning it from its twin

dependance on religious austerities,

0:11:080:11:10

as well as granting women basic

new rights such as full

0:11:100:11:13

permission to drive.

0:11:130:11:14

His Vision 2030 project

needs massive funding,

0:11:140:11:16

and the authorities say the purge

should deliver at least

0:11:160:11:18

$100 billion to state coffers.

0:11:180:11:19

Those who cooperate could be

somewhat like in cash,

0:11:190:11:22

but they should be able to continue

with their businesses

0:11:220:11:24

and their lives.

0:11:240:11:25

But it's still a risky move

which could consolidate

0:11:250:11:27

the Crown Prince's power or build up

resentment against his dominance.

0:11:270:11:32

With all the sport,

here's Olly Foster at

0:11:320:11:34

the BBC Sport Centre.

0:11:340:11:35

It's the final weekend

at the Australian Open

0:11:350:11:39

and Caroline Wozniacki has

won her first Grand Slam title.

0:11:390:11:42

It was a thriller as the Dane

beat Simona Halep in

0:11:420:11:44

three sets in Melbourne.

0:11:440:11:47

The victory also sees her return

to the top of the world rankings

0:11:470:11:50

ahead of the Romanian.

0:11:500:11:51

Adam Wild reports.

0:11:510:11:53

There are few stages in the game

more spectacular than Melbourne

0:11:530:11:56

and the welcome could scarcely have

been more fitting.

0:11:560:11:59

The winner takes it all...

0:11:590:12:03

The world's top two toe-to-toe

Down Under, the final already had

0:12:030:12:06

all the sparkle it needed,

a match worth the wait,

0:12:060:12:09

the wait is something

with which was was and Halep

0:12:090:12:12

are all too familiar with.

0:12:120:12:20

Neither had won a Grand Slam before,

this was Wozniacki's 43rd attempt.

0:12:200:12:23

She started like a player not

prepared to wait any longer.

0:12:230:12:26

Halep too is battle hardened,

forcing a tie-break before finally

0:12:260:12:28

seeing it slip away.

0:12:280:12:31

A moment for her to stay calm,

keep her cool, not easy

0:12:310:12:34

in the blistering evening heat.

0:12:340:12:36

Still, somehow she managed,

fighting back to level the match.

0:12:360:12:44

The temperatures now becoming

the battle with both having

0:12:480:12:50

to leave court to cool off.

0:12:500:12:51

It was heating up, the final set

befitting such an occasion,

0:12:510:12:54

going one way then the other,

this taking Wozniacki to the brink.

0:12:540:13:00

The best point of the match!

0:13:000:13:03

One more point and her long

wait was finally over.

0:13:030:13:05

She's done it!

0:13:050:13:06

And you will not see

a more popular winner.

0:13:060:13:09

I've dreamt of this moment

for so many years and to be

0:13:090:13:12

here today is a dream come true

and my voice is shaking,

0:13:120:13:18

I'm going to cry but today

is a very emotional moment.

0:13:180:13:20

Wozniacky at last a Grand Slam

champion, she becomes world number

0:13:200:13:23

one, a winner who today took it all.

0:13:230:13:29

There are 12 FA Cup fourth

round ties today, one of them

0:13:290:13:31

is still being played.

0:13:310:13:33

There have been goals in every game

and they are all coming up later

0:13:330:13:36

on Match of the Day.

0:13:360:13:37

But I've a got a couple

of the surprise results

0:13:370:13:39

for you now, if you want them.

0:13:390:13:41

League One Wigan Athletic knocked

out Premier League West Ham.

0:13:410:13:46

The 2013 Cup winners won 2-0.

0:13:460:13:47

Will Grigg with both goals.

0:13:470:13:49

The Hammers had a man

sent off for spitting.

0:13:490:13:53

Tottenham were ten minutes away

from going out of the cup.

0:13:530:13:56

They were trailing 1-0

at League 2 Newport County,

0:13:560:13:58

but a Harry Kane equaliser means

they will have a replay at Wembley.

0:13:580:14:02

These are all of today's

fourth round results.

0:14:020:14:05

There'll be at least one League Two

side in the last 16.

0:14:050:14:08

Coventry beating League One MK Dons.

0:14:080:14:09

Notts County can look

forward to a replay aginst

0:14:090:14:12

Premier League strugglers Swansea.

0:14:120:14:14

The video assistant referee

is being well used at Anfield,

0:14:140:14:17

with the on-field official

using the pitchside monitor.

0:14:170:14:21

Goals have been disallowed,

a penalty awarded.

0:14:210:14:29

West Brom are leading

Liverpool 3-2.

0:14:310:14:33

Celtic are still 11 points clear

in the Scottish Premiership.

0:14:330:14:36

Leigh Griffiths scored the winner
