Home Secretary, Amber Rudd. Britain
first is an extremist organisation | 0:00:28 | 0:00:34
which seeks to divide communities
through their use of hateful | 0:00:34 | 0:00:38
narratives which spread lies and
stoke tensions. The deputy leader of | 0:00:38 | 0:00:42
Britain first is subject to a
pending criminal trial accused of | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
religiously aggravated... British
people overwhelmingly reject the | 0:00:45 | 0:00:57
prejudiced rhetoric of the far right
which is the antithesis of the | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
values that this country represents,
decency, tolerance, respect. We will | 0:01:00 | 0:01:05
stand with them in doing so. This is
why we launched our counter | 0:01:05 | 0:01:11
extremism strategy in 2015 and why
we launched the hate crime action | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
plan just last year. So this House
should be clear that this Government | 0:01:15 | 0:01:23
will not tolerate any groups which
spread hate by demonising those of | 0:01:23 | 0:01:27
other faiths or read the beasties or
he deliberately create tensions in | 0:01:27 | 0:01:32
communities. We have been clear that
President Donald Trump was wrong to | 0:01:32 | 0:01:39
re-tweet posts from Britain first.
When we look at the wider picture, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:46
the relationship between the UK and
America, I know how valuable the | 0:01:46 | 0:01:52
prejudice between our two nations
and as Home Secretary, I can tell | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
the House that the importance of the
relationship between our countries, | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
the unparalleled sharing of
intelligence between our countries | 0:02:00 | 0:02:05
is vital. It has undoubtedly saved
British lives. That is the bigger | 0:02:05 | 0:02:14
picture here and I would urge people
to remember that. Stephen Docherty. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:20
I thank the Home Secretary for her
answer. You will recall that the | 0:02:20 | 0:02:25
last time I raised this with you, it
was to state that after his | 0:02:25 | 0:02:33
behaviour, President Trump should
not be afforded the opportunity to | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
address this and the Other House. I
appreciate those words and the | 0:02:37 | 0:02:43
extraordinary events we have seen in
the last 48 hours show why this | 0:02:43 | 0:02:48
House was right to make the call
about him coming here and why the | 0:02:48 | 0:02:54
premature offer of a state visit
should not now go ahead. Let me be | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
clear. I condemn the original
content of what was shared as a | 0:02:57 | 0:03:02
borrowed and anybody who shares
information such as that online, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:07
whether that be those pretending to
act in the name of Islam or | 0:03:07 | 0:03:12
anti-Semites should rightly be
exposed and dealt with. But let's be | 0:03:12 | 0:03:17
be clear. This is the president of
the United States sharing with | 0:03:17 | 0:03:21
millions inflammatory and divisive
comments deliberately posted to | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
spread hatred by a convicted
criminal who is facing further | 0:03:23 | 0:03:32
challenges who represents the vile
fascist organisations seeking to | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
spread hatred online. By sharing it,
he is either a racist, incompetent, | 0:03:33 | 0:03:42
I'm thinking or all three. Can the
Home Secretary please explain what | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
the Government is doing to crack
down on the activities of Britain | 0:03:45 | 0:03:49
first and other far right
organisations including online? | 0:03:49 | 0:03:55 |
