project ever. Literally growing up in front of the

camera, Boyhood is the tale of one boy from childhood to college. All

of life is here. It demanded more than a decade of his life. He

started filming aged six. What do you want to do? It is so difficult

to comprehend the length of time. But I wasn't unwilling. I knew what

was going on. There was certainly a point, maybe halfway through, when

it started to dawn on me just how important it was to me. Even big

budget movies need to be filmed over a matter of weeks or months just

because of financial restrictions. Richard Linklater said he no budget

for the film, but he managed to commit to years of filming a

fictional boy's progress towards adulthood. The results are there for

everyone to see on screen. There was a basic architecture of the whole

piece. It was planned out in the general sense. I knew the last shot

of the movie very early on. Every year, we could, within those

boundaries of what year was about, it was very loose. Life doesn't give

you pompous. The director was helped by Ethan Hawke. They signed off a

view weeks of their life every year for virtually no pay. Were you very

conscious of the passage of time? There were years where they did not

seem to change at all. Then suddenly there would be a growth spurt. They

would be acting or braces or... Meanwhile, Ethan and I just keep

getting older. Boyhood is not the story of one child's life, the

themes are universal. No one knows what I had, but the audience knows

where he has been. You would probably have to live on

happen in Brazil. I dream of being an example to others. That someone

will say, I wanted to be like you. Result's women footballers may have

talent, but I long way from the national icons on the scale of
