From here in the world's newsroom, we send our correspondets

:00:16.:00:20.

to bring you the best stories from across the globe.

:00:21.:00:22.

On the trail of Turkey's most wanted man.

:00:23.:00:27.

Ian Pannell tracks down the leader of the Kurdish militant group,

:00:28.:00:30.

the PKK, who's warned the Turkish president he'll escalate the war

:00:31.:00:33.

TRANSLATION: He wants the Kurds to surrender.

:00:34.:00:38.

So, of course, the PKK will escalate the war.

:00:39.:00:44.

Not only in the Kurdish areas, but across Turkey.

:00:45.:00:58.

Tulip Mazumdar asks whether the pressure for girls to be

:00:59.:01:01.

It's better the Japanese women to be slimmer.

:01:02.:01:06.

He's Turkey's most wanted man, who has made his home in a mountain

:01:07.:01:25.

But in an exclusive interview with the BBC, Jamal Bayek,

:01:26.:01:29.

leader of the Kurdish separatist group PKK,

:01:30.:01:30.

has said he is prepared to escalate the war with Ankara.

:01:31.:01:33.

His group is waging simultaneous conflicts against Turkey

:01:34.:01:35.

and the so-called Islamic State but the Kurdish leader said

:01:36.:01:37.

unless the Turkish government abandons what he calls its genocidal

:01:38.:01:40.

policies and begin ceasefire negotiations, the PKK's long fight

:01:41.:01:42.

Ian Pannell has been to the mountains of

:01:43.:01:52.

We were told to be ready at first light.

:01:53.:01:56.

We should follow him, no questions asked.

:01:57.:02:05.

Driving across northern Iraq, where soldiers and spies

:02:06.:02:07.

In these hills is the man who leads the PKK, the militant

:02:08.:02:24.

It says it fights for Kurdish rights and self-rule but Ankara says it's

:02:25.:02:28.

a terrorist group that slaughters civilians.

:02:29.:02:33.

At this point, we were told to turn the camera off

:02:34.:02:36.

as we met the most wanted man in Turkey.

:02:37.:02:41.

TRANSLATION: Erdo an is escalating this war.

:02:42.:02:42.

If they don't, he will kill all Kurds.

:02:43.:02:47.

So, of course the PKK will escalate the war, not only in the Kurdish

:02:48.:02:50.

If Turkey gives up its genocidal politics and chooses

:02:51.:02:57.

This is the battle raging across the border.

:02:58.:03:08.

A peace process gave way to violence last year.

:03:09.:03:22.

Kurdish towns and cities were pounded, hundreds of thousands

:03:23.:03:24.

The war's moved into Turkey's main cities, where Kurdish suicide

:03:25.:03:40.

bombers have brought terror and death to the nation's capital.

:03:41.:03:42.

More than 1,000 have been killed in

:03:43.:03:44.

Turkey's president has ruled out talks, threatening instead

:03:45.:04:18.

He's taken the war into the mountains of Iraq,

:04:19.:04:23.

But also fighters, training camps, and PKK cemeteries.

:04:24.:04:36.

We were just filming in the PKK cemetery there and we heard

:04:37.:04:44.

the sound of a fighter jet overhead, and the fear is there could be

:04:45.:04:47.

another attack coming, so we've been told we have to leave

:04:48.:04:50.

The PKK have also joined the fight against the Islamic State group.

:04:51.:05:07.

The Kurds have been the most successful force battling Isis.

:05:08.:05:15.

The West works closely with some fighters but it says not

:05:16.:05:21.

with the PKK, not just because it's seen as a terrorist group,

:05:22.:05:24.

But, now, we've been told there is contact

:05:25.:05:30.

TRANSLATION: Rather than indirect, they could be contacted direct.

:05:31.:05:38.

If you're fighting IS, you have to be in touch the PKK.

:05:39.:05:46.

And we're talking about the coalition, we're

:05:47.:05:48.

TRANSLATION: America, England and others.

:05:49.:05:54.

America represents the coalition forces.

:05:55.:05:57.

It's not an issue for us if we talk to Americans or anyone else.

:05:58.:06:06.

How the West works with the Kurds is now a very real,

:06:07.:06:09.

Finding a way through will affect relations with Turkey,

:06:10.:06:14.

and how successful the war against Isis really is.

:06:15.:07:09.

Fortunately, few have known trauma on this scale.

:07:10.:07:13.

Has the pressure on girls to be thin gone too far?

:07:14.:07:16.

Many feel it has in Japan, where hundreds of thousands

:07:17.:07:18.

of people are dealing with eating disorders, and,

:07:19.:07:20.

according to health experts, the country's health

:07:21.:07:22.

As Tulip Mazumdar reports from Tokyo, for many Japanese,

:07:23.:07:25.

This is Harajuku, where the image-conscious flock.

:07:26.:07:29.

Yuka and Akanei are shopping here today.

:07:30.:07:31.

We need to lose weight, they tell me.

:07:32.:07:33.

It's better for Japanese women to be slimmer.

:07:34.:07:34.

The pressure on women and girls in particular to be

:07:35.:07:38.

Eating disorders are complex but there are concerns that that

:07:39.:07:41.

People rarely speak out about the problem but this

:07:42.:07:45.

young woman agreed to, if we hid her identity.

:07:46.:07:47.

TRANSLATION: I was a chubby child and the other kids bullied me.

:07:48.:07:51.

When I started losing weight at 16, everyone told me how great I looked,

:07:52.:07:55.

Matoko tells me her parents were too ashamed to take her to a doctor

:07:56.:07:59.

so she, like many thousands of others, suffered in silence.

:08:00.:08:01.

After more than ten years, Matoko is finally getting

:08:02.:08:04.

Today, she's come to one of the few government funded eating disorder

:08:05.:08:08.

These women are considered the lucky ones.

:08:09.:08:10.

There's no family doctor referral system here so it's largely

:08:11.:08:13.

up to patients to seek the help themselves.

:08:14.:08:20.

TRANSLATION: It's often too late by the time the patient

:08:21.:08:22.

Sometimes, they are even close to death.

:08:23.:08:28.

Although the causes of eating disorders are known,

:08:29.:08:32.

there is the predominant cultural ideal that skinny is beautiful.

:08:33.:08:34.

That has gone too far, and we need to address it.

:08:35.:08:40.

The government says it's trying to raise more awareness

:08:41.:08:42.

of the problem and make it easier for people to come forward

:08:43.:08:45.

This is what teenagers are up against.

:08:46.:08:53.

We bought this magazine and in it we found this 15-year-old girl.

:08:54.:08:57.

It's got all of her measurements here, her height, her weight,

:08:58.:09:00.

By international standards, she is severely underweight.

:09:01.:09:07.

But if you read this here, it says, we want to be slimmer and prettier,

:09:08.:09:10.

so let's take action now and measure ourselves every day.

:09:11.:09:16.

Usually, we don't see these curves, we don't see it at all.

:09:17.:09:20.

But counter voices and images are emerging.

:09:21.:09:24.

Nao and Aisha are models Japan's only magazine at plus sized girls.

:09:25.:09:28.

They want to champion people of all shapes and sizes.

:09:29.:09:35.

They may still be a minority in the mass media but these women

:09:36.:09:38.

But, today, she's living her dream as a model.

:09:39.:09:49.

TRANSLATION: When I had an eating disorder, I thought if I didn't eat

:09:50.:09:52.

But now I am able to enjoy eating with friends.

:09:53.:09:59.

I realise that happiness comes from accepting your body.

:10:00.:10:08.

And that's all from Reporters for this week.

:10:09.:10:10.

From me, Philippa Thomas, goodbye for now.

:10:11.:10:34.

Hello, our final day of April resorted to type - sunny spells and

:10:35.:10:40.

showers after a bright sunny

:10:41.:10:42.
