Good evening. The Labour leader, Ed Miliband, has urged people in

Scotland to help change the UK for the better by rejecting

independence. However, his claims are being dismissed by the Yes

campaign, who say he can't guarantee change because it's becoming less

likely that he'll win the next general election. Steven Godden

reports. Enough time for a photo and a quick

chat. Ed Miliband's referendum tour stops briefly in Livingston. The

day's tone was set in Edinburgh. The Labour leader set out his vision

for a Scotland that votes No and is instead at the forefront of

radically changing the UK. Together, we can change our country

and go on to improve our world. Not a Scotland outside the United

Kingdom, but leading the way within it. Friends, that is why I ask you

to vote No in the referendum. And say Yes to changing Britain.

Underpinning the message, the detail. A higher minimum wage, an

end to zero hours contracts, a 50p tax rate. All set out last month as

part of a proposed contract with the Scottish people. Edinburgh's

historic Old Town offered Ed Miliband a fresh backdrop for his

well rehearsed vision of Scotland's future within the UK. But away from

these famous cobbles, there were some revealing insights. At lunch,

he told parliamentary journalists that, if an independent Scotland

pursued a looser policy on immigration, a Labour government

would look at the issue of border posts. Look at Ireland say his

opponents. A border with no guards within a Common Travel Area. Typical

of a message, they say, that ignores Scotland's needs. The trouble with

anything Ed Miliband says is he cannot guarantee change. It is

looking less and less likely he can win a UK general election. And I

think what people in Scotland will reflect on is the fact that we have

ended up with this highly unequal, highly unfair society is as much the

product of the years of New Labour government as it is the years of

Conservative government. For both sides, a ticking clock equals a

squeeze on subtlety. 12 weeks today, voters will have had the final say.

Scotland's most wanted tax fugitive has been jailed for a total of 11.5

years at the High Court in Edinburgh. Michael Voudouri admitted

cheating the taxman out of ?11.6 million, before fleeing to Cyprus to

avoid going to jail. He was extradited back to Scotland last

month. A man has appeared at Haddington

Sheriff Court charged in connection with online threats against

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond. 43-year-old Steven Thomson

from Renfrew made no plea during the hearing. He has been charged with

threatening or abusive behaviour. He was released on bail and will be

expected to appear in court again at a date which is yet to be set.

Tunnocks and Lees of Scotland are in line for a combined tax rebate of

?2.8 million, after winning an appeal against a claim from Her

Majesty's Revenue and Customs which defined Snowballs as confectionary.

After sampling the products, judges at the First Tier Tax Tribunal ruled

they should be characterised as a cake, which means they're exempt

from VAT. Andy Murray is through to the last

16 at Wimbledon after a straight sets win over the 27th seed, Roberto

Bautista Agut. The defending champion is yet to drop a set in

this championship. Kheredine Idessane reports from the All

England Club. Yes, Andy Murray's somewhat serene

progress continued with a game that went according to plan against

Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut. The server was broken as early as the

third game and after that it was pretty much plain sailing, the first

set 6-2, then 6-3, and built up a 4-0 lead in the third set then did

not look back he needed four match point, sealing it out in one hour

and 36 minutes. Terrific stuff, through to the fourth round on

Monday, playing South Africa's Kevin Anderson for a place in the

quarterfinals. In a boost of the Commonwealth

Games, Usain Bolt says he's available for selection for Glasgow.

But the Jamaican is injured and, if he does make it, he'll only be

He holds the world records for 100 and 200m. But a Commonwealth medal

is one he has yet to achieve. Usain Bolt says he's received lots of

requests, invitations and messages of support from his fans in Scotland

to take part in Glasgow 2014. And in a message on his website, he says he

is available for selection. Final preparations are being made here for

the track and field events. And imagine the Hampden roar from more

than 50,000 fans if the fastest man on earth whizzes by.

This is where Usain Bolt would take his mark. He can reach speeds of

almost 28mph. And in the time it's taken me to get here, he would have

crossed the finishing line. I think the fact that he has put his

hand up and said I want to be there and, please consider me part of the

team if I can add value. Well, we all know he is an absolutely

fantastic athlete. The fastest man in the world. And in Glasgow today,

it seems he's an inspiration. He's the fastest man in the world.

He is a world-record holder. So maybe that will bring a bit more

excitement to the Commonwealth Games. So if he does join names like

Mo Farah and Sir Bradley Wiggins, the man who is as quick as

lightning, and quite a character to boot, could be a star attraction at

the games. Now for the weather. Generally dry across most of the

country, some light showers around, but fairly cool especially across

the West Highlands and parts of Argyll. Mostly dry this weekend,

north-east breeze pushing thicker cloud across the Northeast and

Easter and side of the country. Best sunshine in the west and south-west.

Through mid-afternoon, for a clog the warmest part of the day, up to

maybe 19 degrees across the south-west, cooler along the east

coast including Edinburgh and Dundee, some light showers here,

decent spells of sunshine inland. A breeze across the northern Nile is

adding to the cool feel. -- Northern Isles stop late sunshine in the

evening, especially where you see the sunshine in the day. Cool on
