like the winter weather for now is a bit of a thing of the past.

:00:00.:00:00.

So it's goodbye from me and on BBC One we now join the BBC's

:00:00.:00:00.

Families of victims in both these crashes launch private prosecutions

:00:07.:00:12.

Our girls, two lives, can be worth something, they are just not swept

:00:13.:00:23.

they are just not swept under the carpet.

:00:24.:00:27.

The death of Fife grandmother Mary Logie - a neighbour appears

:00:28.:00:31.

The number of drink drivers caught by the police went up over

:00:32.:00:35.

the festive period - and it's not just down

:00:36.:00:38.

Delight, as semi-professional team East Kilbride triumph in the Cup

:00:39.:00:45.

and prepare to face Celtic in the next round.

:00:46.:00:47.

And could gin challenge whisky as our favourite spirit?

:00:48.:01:05.

The families of two young women killed when a driver blacked out

:01:06.:01:10.

at the wheel of his car in Glasgow five years ago are seeking to bring

:01:11.:01:13.

Mairi Convy and Laura Stewart died, when William Payne fell unconscious

:01:14.:01:18.

It comes as the family of three victims of the Glasgow bin lorry

:01:19.:01:24.

crash start a private prosecution against driver Harry Clarke.

:01:25.:01:26.

Six people lost their lives when the bin lorry careered out of control

:01:27.:01:41.

three days before Christmas in 2014. Now the family of 18-year-old Erin

:01:42.:01:47.

McQuaid and her grandparents are trying to start private criminal

:01:48.:01:50.

proceedings against Harry Clarke. Yesterday they delivered a bill for

:01:51.:01:53.

criminal letters to the Crown Office and hope it will lead to a private

:01:54.:01:56.

prosecution. They want justice, they are not a

:01:57.:02:01.

Lynch mob, the family do not consider they have to attend outside

:02:02.:02:06.

a cell with a noose, and hang him at all, what they want to see justice

:02:07.:02:11.

being done and the natural course of justice will be a criminal

:02:12.:02:14.

prosecution if the driver is acquitted he is acquitted. It is as

:02:15.:02:18.

simple as that. The family can move on. But in six years' time at least

:02:19.:02:22.

they can say that they have done the best for their parents they have

:02:23.:02:25.

lost and the daughter they lost. During the fatal accident inquiry

:02:26.:02:30.

into the crash, it emerged the driver Harry Clarke had a medical

:02:31.:02:34.

history of black outs spanning decades that he failed to disclose

:02:35.:02:39.

to his employers and the DVLA, but the Crown Office insisted there was

:02:40.:02:43.

not enough evidence in law to prosecute him. Almost exactly four

:02:44.:02:48.

years before the George square crash there was another tragedy a quarter

:02:49.:02:53.

of a mile away. Mairi Convy and Laura Stewart were killed in north

:02:54.:02:57.

than know very street in 2010 when they were knocked down by driver

:02:58.:03:02.

William Payne. This morning their families lodged a similar bill,

:03:03.:03:06.

calling for his prosecution. Both Laura and Mairi's family have been

:03:07.:03:10.

brought together by their fight for justice for the girls They were

:03:11.:03:13.

friends at college, they were killed together, so that binds us, as

:03:14.:03:18.

families. We have fought this fight for five year, we have held each

:03:19.:03:22.

other, we have been support, we have cried together, laughed together. We

:03:23.:03:25.

have been there for each other because the girls were there for

:03:26.:03:31.

each other, we owe it to them and we owe it to the memory, and the

:03:32.:03:37.

futures they have been robbed of. I think that our girls two lives can

:03:38.:03:45.

be worth something, they are not just swept under the carpet. It

:03:46.:03:48.

be worth something, they are not up there where Laura and Mairi were

:03:49.:03:53.

killed. Literally just yards from here George Square, where the bin

:03:54.:03:56.

lorry crashed into the wall of the millennium hotel. In each case, the

:03:57.:04:02.

driver had a medical history of black outs, in each case there was

:04:03.:04:06.

no criminal prosecution. And the families who are now pursuing these

:04:07.:04:10.

private prosecutions feel justice wasn't done for their loved ones.

:04:11.:04:15.

Now, the families have to wait to see if their bids to have the first

:04:16.:04:20.

private prosecutions this century can overcome the many legal hurdles

:04:21.:04:22.

can overcome the many legal hurdles they face.

:04:23.:04:26.

Well, joining us now is our home affairs correspondent Reevel

:04:27.:04:28.

Reevel, talk us through some of these legal hurdles.

:04:29.:04:34.

They are difficult. Two cases last century as Katsina mentioned. One in

:04:35.:04:44.

1909 and the other in 1982. In each case the Lord Advocate gave what is

:04:45.:04:48.

called a concurrence, that is to say he signified that the case could guy

:04:49.:04:53.

ahead. There is strong evidence in these two cases that not going to

:04:54.:04:57.

happen. If the Lord Advocate says no, it can go to High Court. They

:04:58.:05:02.

can allow it to go ahead but first of all, there are two other hurdles

:05:03.:05:06.

that people must overcome. The first is sufficiency of evidence. In other

:05:07.:05:11.

words, the court has to be satisfied that the case had a reasonable

:05:12.:05:15.

chance of success. The court must also establish whether there are

:05:16.:05:19.

exceptional circumstances to allow a private prosecution, and that could

:05:20.:05:23.

be a very difficult hurdle to overcome, bearing in mind that the

:05:24.:05:26.

Crown has decided that in law they can't bring a prosecution. And why

:05:27.:05:33.

might frank Mulholland not be willing to allow a private crossing.

:05:34.:05:38.

For the same reason as the Crown couldn't bring a prosecution. Last

:05:39.:05:42.

August Mr Mulholland told BBC Scotland in law the lorry driver in

:05:43.:05:46.

the bin lorry case, Harry Clarke couldn't be charged for two main

:05:47.:05:50.

reason, first he was unconscious at the time of the accident, therefore

:05:51.:05:53.

there was no criminal intent that could be demonstrated to the court.

:05:54.:05:59.

Secondly, it had been four years before since his last fainting

:06:00.:06:04.

episode so he couldn't have known that day he was going to collapse

:06:05.:06:09.

and cause the dv station he did. Thank you. -- devastation.

:06:10.:06:11.

A 40-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder

:06:12.:06:15.

Sandra Weir, who was a neighbour, made no plea or declaration

:06:16.:06:19.

Mrs Logie, who was 82, was found dead in her home just over

:06:20.:06:23.

Flowers outside the house that Mary Logie called home for more than half

:06:24.:06:38.

her life. A grandmother, a mother of three, it is exactly two weeks since

:06:39.:06:42.

police released this picture of the 82-year-old. Two days earlier she

:06:43.:06:48.

had been planning a trip into town before visiting a friend in

:06:49.:06:50.

hospital. That didn't happen. Instead, she was found dead in her

:06:51.:06:55.

nightdress, the victim of what police described as a brutal and

:06:56.:06:59.

horrendous attack. The high profile police operation that followed was

:07:00.:07:04.

aimed as catching her killer, while also reassuring locals with extra

:07:05.:07:07.

officers is on the street. Not far away, at the church where Mairi --

:07:08.:07:13.

Mary was better known as Ray, the minister says it has been a

:07:14.:07:17.

difficult fortnight. There were a few people on the Sunday afterwards,

:07:18.:07:19.

as we mentioned her in the prayers who were visibly upset, about what

:07:20.:07:27.

had happen. Your can imagine that. There is a lot of people live in

:07:28.:07:32.

this community who live on their own, older ladies who live on their

:07:33.:07:37.

own, and that was a worry thing for them, that this is happening in the

:07:38.:07:39.

area. This afternoon, a few miles along

:07:40.:07:44.

the Fife coast, a neighbour appeared in court charged with her murder.

:07:45.:07:49.

40-year-old Sandra Weir made no plea or declaration during a short

:07:50.:07:53.

hearing held in private. The Sheriff remanded her in custody. It is

:07:54.:07:56.

expected she will return to court next week.

:07:57.:07:58.

You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC.

:07:59.:08:00.

Still to come on tonight's programme.

:08:01.:08:02.

A new beginning beckons for an historic Stirling landmark.

:08:03.:08:09.

In sport - Murray is in magnificent form at the Australian Open tennis.

:08:10.:08:12.

The semi-professional footballers who're living the dream in East

:08:13.:08:19.

Scotland's 32 councils are in the midst of trying to figure

:08:20.:08:27.

out how to pay for services at a time when funds

:08:28.:08:29.

They get most of their cash from the Scottish Government,

:08:30.:08:33.

but many say they need more details of this year's funding plan before

:08:34.:08:36.

Tonight, Edinburgh Council became the first to pass its budget,

:08:37.:08:41.

but another rejected the current government offer.

:08:42.:08:43.

Here's our local government correspondent, Jamie McIvor.

:08:44.:08:55.

Passions are running high on local service, this was the scene outside

:08:56.:09:03.

Edinburgh council today. It is planning 2,000 job cuts and

:09:04.:09:08.

reductions to some local services. I say resign. Councils get most of

:09:09.:09:12.

their cash from the Scottish Government. Most of them say the

:09:13.:09:16.

deal on offer means they will need to make more savings this year than

:09:17.:09:19.

they expected. There is concern here about some of the cuts Edinburgh is

:09:20.:09:24.

proposing but at the same time there is sympathy for the financial

:09:25.:09:29.

situation facing local Governments. The leader of the council said this

:09:30.:09:32.

morning that local Government funding is broken, and it certainly

:09:33.:09:36.

is broken. In Holyrood they node to take responsibility for that.

:09:37.:09:41.

-- need. Edinburgh is the first council to set its budget for the

:09:42.:09:45.

the year ahead. Many others still haven't accepted the Government's

:09:46.:09:49.

funding offer. Tonight, one Labour council said they would turn it down

:09:50.:09:53.

outright if it didn't change. I have written to the Government. We are

:09:54.:09:58.

telling the Government day and daily they need to provide more money for

:09:59.:10:02.

local service, if they want to continue with the rhetoric they have

:10:03.:10:06.

round that tackling austerity, they need to provide the money to provide

:10:07.:10:12.

those services. Many councils have concerns or query, so much so the

:10:13.:10:16.

Finance Secretary sent them this letter, seen by BBC Scotland. He

:10:17.:10:22.

told them he was putting back the deadline for accepting the offer,

:10:23.:10:25.

originally it was tomorrow. First Minister... At Holyrood, the first

:10:26.:10:29.

minute stir defended council funding. In terms of overall revenue

:10:30.:10:34.

expenditure of Local Authorities, they are looking at a 2% reduction,

:10:35.:10:39.

and that is before we take account of additional resources for social

:10:40.:10:43.

care, additional resources through the attainment fund and the

:10:44.:10:46.

additional investment we plan over the life of the next Parliament in

:10:47.:10:49.

transforming the provision of childcare.

:10:50.:10:56.

Back at the council many protestors claimed putting up the council tax

:10:57.:11:02.

this year could help. So far, only Murray -- Moray Council plan do this

:11:03.:11:04.

but a few more may follow. News website has published sections

:11:05.:11:23.

of a draft report which says incidents occurred at virtually

:11:24.:11:27.

every one of the BBC premises in which Savile worked. BBC head Lord

:11:28.:11:31.

Hall says lessons will be learned from what he described as a dark

:11:32.:11:33.

chapter. More drivers were caught drink

:11:34.:11:36.

driving during the recent festive period - that's despite police

:11:37.:11:38.

breath-testing fewer motorists The vast majority of those caught

:11:39.:11:40.

had drunk enough to ensure they'd have failed the breathalyser even

:11:41.:11:44.

before the limit was lowered Here's Aileen Clarke,

:11:45.:11:46.

with a look at the figures. Well, here is the number of those

:11:47.:11:56.

who fell foul of the breathalyser during the police's latest festive

:11:57.:11:59.

drink drive campaign. 459 drivers tested positive,

:12:00.:12:01.

up by almost a third on last year, and that increase is despite there

:12:02.:12:04.

being almost 1,300 fewer breath tests actually carried

:12:05.:12:06.

out this year. Now the police point

:12:07.:12:08.

to the overall trend - that's the number of people

:12:09.:12:11.

caught right through out Now traffic officers don't count

:12:12.:12:14.

the total number of breath tests they do outside the special

:12:15.:12:26.

campaigns in the summer and in the festive period,

:12:27.:12:28.

but even so, you can see here that the numbers caught drink

:12:29.:12:30.

driving is in general coming In fact, it's more

:12:31.:12:33.

than halved since 2006. But that last annual figure we have

:12:34.:12:36.

of more than 5,200 drunk drivers still came as a shock to some people

:12:37.:12:39.

I spoke to in Glasgow today. I wouldn't think it would be a great

:12:40.:12:54.

deal to be honest. People know now not to touch it. If I told you it is

:12:55.:12:59.

more than 100 drives a week? That is a lot. That is a lot, aye. Surprised

:13:00.:13:05.

at that really. It is quite high and I think it has to come down. I agree

:13:06.:13:12.

with the new drink-driving laws. In a population of over 5 million. I

:13:13.:13:16.

don't think so, no. I got educated the hard way. I lost my license for

:13:17.:13:25.

22 months, heavily fined. I went to a drink-driving awareness course and

:13:26.:13:28.

I realised that even after a couple of pints, you are in charge of a

:13:29.:13:31.

you are in charge of a lethal weapon.

:13:32.:13:35.

That man suggests more driver education is needed.

:13:36.:13:37.

The police admit they are disappointed with this sharp rise

:13:38.:13:39.

in drunk drivers over the festive season.

:13:40.:13:43.

There are still a hard-core, a minority of people in Scotland

:13:44.:13:50.

prepared to take the risk to themselves and others, of drinking

:13:51.:13:54.

and driving. That is unacceptable, as the vast majority of people in

:13:55.:13:57.

The number of people caught in this Christmas campaign due

:13:58.:14:01.

to the new lower limit imposed in 2014 was 19 -

:14:02.:14:03.

now that's just one more than last year, so the vast majority

:14:04.:14:06.

of drivers still being caught drunk at the wheel would have been caught

:14:07.:14:09.

It started life in the 17th century as home for merchants who'd fallen

:14:10.:14:20.

on hard times, but Stirling's Cowane's Hospital is itself in need

:14:21.:14:25.

Plans to restore and reopen it for the community have been helped,

:14:26.:14:29.

thanks to the promise of ?2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

:14:30.:14:31.

Our arts correspondent Pauline McLean reports.

:14:32.:14:41.

Behind closed doors and important piece of Scottish history lies

:14:42.:14:50.

virtually untouched. You will notice that this is not as it was

:14:51.:14:55.

originally built. There were bedrooms upstairs originally and the

:14:56.:15:01.

public rooms were downstairs. In the 16 40s, this was a very comfortable

:15:02.:15:08.

home for wayward merchants. Good food, warm clothes, even the

:15:09.:15:12.

country's first Bowling Green. They had to abide by strict rules. They

:15:13.:15:17.

were not allowed to swear, drink, see women. They had to attend church

:15:18.:15:23.

three times on Sunday. They literally had a very confined

:15:24.:15:30.

lifestyle. Strict, or not, John Cowane's legacy lives on, even

:15:31.:15:37.

though his statue has seen better days. His hand fell off, tragically.

:15:38.:15:45.

The whole statue requires a complete overhaul and maintenance. Today, the

:15:46.:15:52.

campaign took a step forward with a promise of ?2 million from the

:15:53.:15:57.

Heritage lottery. It will allow them to restore the building with all the

:15:58.:16:03.

details of the Guilds and businessmen who used it. The

:16:04.:16:10.

businessmen used to take these pies home to prove that they have

:16:11.:16:14.

meetings here rather than in the local pub. They are planning to sell

:16:15.:16:19.

these pies as part of the new tourist attraction. Thanks to this

:16:20.:16:26.

boost, Cowane's Hospital can reopen in the near future.

:16:27.:16:29.

A look at other stories from across the country.

:16:30.:16:36.

A man who abducted a six-year-old boy during a naked rampage through a

:16:37.:16:48.

toy store has been jailed. He also battered the boy's grandmother with

:16:49.:16:56.

a cricket bat as she tried to stop him. The court heard that he had

:16:57.:17:01.

several convictions for violence in Poland. Cash will be given to shared

:17:02.:17:08.

equity and help to buy schemes and will be targeted on families with

:17:09.:17:15.

low income is. This is aimed at people who are earning around

:17:16.:17:20.

?35,000 per year or less. Unlike south of the border where it is

:17:21.:17:24.

aimed at wealthier people, we are aiming it at those who otherwise

:17:25.:17:27.

wouldn't be able to buy their own home. Marine Harvest is to cut jobs

:17:28.:17:36.

at its fish farms. It employs nearly 700 people at 50 sites. It is the

:17:37.:17:42.

world's largest fish farmer but says the cuts will make its business more

:17:43.:17:48.

sustainable. Thousands of ceramic poppies from the installation at the

:17:49.:17:52.

Tower of London are to travel to Orkney where they will be displayed

:17:53.:17:58.

at Saint Magnus Cathedral as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations

:17:59.:18:03.

of the Battle of Jutland. It will have a deeply moving impact on all

:18:04.:18:08.

those who see it. That has been the reaction across the country. I saw

:18:09.:18:13.

it in London and it is a deeply moving spectacle. People in Orkney

:18:14.:18:17.

will look after this sculpture while it is here and it will have a deep

:18:18.:18:21.

impact in commemorating those who lost their lives in the Great War.

:18:22.:18:27.

Film star Arnold Schwarzenegger surprised commuters in Edinburgh

:18:28.:18:30.

this morning when he went for a cycle in the centre of the city. He

:18:31.:18:36.

was spotted taking self ease with fans as he cycled around the West

:18:37.:18:41.

End although he cycled the wrong way of Lothian Road.

:18:42.:18:46.

Let's get the sport now, and the latest on Andy Murray,

:18:47.:18:48.

Andy Murray is in magnificent form at the Australian Open.

:18:49.:18:57.

He demolished the local favourite Sam Groth

:18:58.:18:59.

His opponent - who had most of the crowd in his favour -

:19:00.:19:04.

From Melbourne, here's our tennis reporter Kheredine Idessane.

:19:05.:19:10.

Andy Murray will have too quiet in the crowd here. Although he is

:19:11.:19:18.

popular, Sam Groth is more popular. Centrestage on centre court, his

:19:19.:19:22.

first match in the Rob Lever arena this year. His fans had much to

:19:23.:19:31.

cheer as he got into the groove straightaway. The tactic from the

:19:32.:19:36.

big Australia was serve and volley. The way around that, take to the

:19:37.:19:41.

air. This Murray masterclass was so convincing he won the first nine

:19:42.:19:48.

games. He was detained barely an hour and a half and told as

:19:49.:19:51.

afterwards that he isn't one for parenting classes. From speaking to

:19:52.:19:57.

people, you can't will you be taught. Every child is different.

:19:58.:20:02.

You need to be able to respond to situations as they happen. It is

:20:03.:20:08.

not... I don't know, I think I will go a little bit on instinct with

:20:09.:20:12.

that and I'm sure that my wife will give me a lot of tips as well, and a

:20:13.:20:24.

few earfuls, I'm sure. He won't get an earful about the Stander of his

:20:25.:20:30.

tennis. And if he plays that well on Saturday he will be a favourite to

:20:31.:20:32.

get through to the fourth round. Scottish football is considering

:20:33.:20:37.

introducing an American football style draft system to help clubs

:20:38.:20:39.

develop young players. The proposal was put forward

:20:40.:20:42.

by the Scotland manager Gordon Strachan as part

:20:43.:20:44.

of the SFA's review of the game. If the plans are given the go ahead,

:20:45.:20:50.

under-21 Premiership players would be loaned out to the lower

:20:51.:20:52.

leagues and picked from an NFL Now to the stuff of which

:20:53.:20:55.

football dreams are made. The East Kilbride story:

:20:56.:21:00.

formed just six years ago, they're semi professional,

:21:01.:21:02.

and play their home games But they've just won through to face

:21:03.:21:04.

Premiership Champions Celtic in the next round of

:21:05.:21:07.

the Scottish Cup. It will be worth a sport fortune to

:21:08.:21:10.

the South Lanarkshire club. The cup heroes are enjoying their

:21:11.:21:23.

moment. What a moment. These goals, firstly from Jack Smith, then from

:21:24.:21:31.

Sean Winter, urging them a win over Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale and a

:21:32.:21:38.

tie against Celtic. Inducing this sort of reaction. Absolutely

:21:39.:21:46.

ecstatic. Come on, Mary! A very nervous cup tie. A great cup tie.

:21:47.:21:54.

The two teams played tremendous. Just so delighted today. And a tie

:21:55.:21:58.

against Celtic. What a feeling that is. In the dressing room, little

:21:59.:22:05.

thought of the ?100,000 plus the club will earn from facing the

:22:06.:22:08.

Scottish champions. Can you believe you are going to be playing Celtic?

:22:09.:22:13.

It will take a couple of days to sink in but it is great. It is great

:22:14.:22:18.

we are in the next round. Now they are about to hear from a man who

:22:19.:22:23.

wants to kill that bars. Cover your ears if you are a football romantic.

:22:24.:22:30.

It is always difficult to play teams below yourself. We will be prepared

:22:31.:22:36.

as we are always prepared with every team we go to. Right now, they are

:22:37.:22:42.

living the dream. It will take something approaching a miracle for

:22:43.:22:46.

them to prevail in the next round. Well done to them and to Mary.

:22:47.:22:54.

Scotland is synonymous with whisky, but another spirit made

:22:55.:22:56.

here is enjoying a surge in popularity.

:22:57.:22:59.

Sales of Scottish gin are booming - with more than 70 percent

:23:00.:23:02.

of the multi-million pound UK market being distilled here.

:23:03.:23:04.

And the key to its popularity seems to be its appeal

:23:05.:23:06.

Chin. Perhaps a drink once more associated with our parents but now

:23:07.:23:20.

surging in popularity. It is worth hundreds of millions of pounds to

:23:21.:23:25.

the Scottish economy. Next week a national Scottish Jim -- gin Trail

:23:26.:23:36.

is being launched. Coming from the back streets of 18th-century

:23:37.:23:44.

Britain, nicknamed mother's ruin. But now a Scottish export success.

:23:45.:23:50.

Of 100,000,005 years. The boom is being seen on high streets. The

:23:51.:23:57.

explosion is definitely happening. In the last month, we have properly

:23:58.:24:06.

sold about 200 different gins through the shop. Is it a fad?

:24:07.:24:12.

Possibly but it is a good one. America is a huge market opening up

:24:13.:24:19.

and see the potential for boutique brands. We are the fastest-growing

:24:20.:24:27.

gin brand in Scotland. We are opening a new distillery to cope

:24:28.:24:34.

with the demand. Down in Leith, where all the distillery is used to

:24:35.:24:40.

be. New distillers can make gin relatively quickly while waiting for

:24:41.:24:45.

whiskey to mature. But is there room for all the newcomers in the market?

:24:46.:24:51.

The world is a big place and there are a new generation of consumers

:24:52.:24:58.

across the world looking for quality products. I'm not losing any sleep

:24:59.:25:03.

about our ability to grow over the next few years. In the 1700s, the

:25:04.:25:12.

gin craze brought debauchery and destitution. This new creation only

:25:13.:25:20.

bring new markets and opportunities. I think we should say, things are

:25:21.:25:24.

looking up but don't hold your breath. That's a fair way to put it.

:25:25.:25:39.

Pretty miserable today. Grey cloud, cold and wet. Our weather watcher

:25:40.:25:46.

Veronica catching the leaden skies. We need to be patient. If anything,

:25:47.:25:53.

rain intensifying overnight. We have a yellow warning in force. Fickle

:25:54.:26:01.

conditions on the roads. Bearing in mind, it is milder air coming in.

:26:02.:26:10.

Temperatures around five in the morning up to around 7 degrees. A

:26:11.:26:17.

wet start to the day with difficult conditions on the roads. Wind is

:26:18.:26:23.

strong to gale force. Here's the improvement. The rain will fear

:26:24.:26:27.

through to be replaced by Dreyer, brighter conditions and

:26:28.:26:30.

through to be replaced by Dreyer, air. Temperatures up to around 12

:26:31.:26:37.

Celsius. A different feeling day. A touch cooler across the north-east.

:26:38.:26:40.

There will be a touch cooler across the north-east.

:26:41.:26:43.

the north-west Highlands and Islands. Taking a wild to clear from

:26:44.:26:55.

Shetland. Very few showers overnight but a lot of dry weather around as

:26:56.:27:02.

well. On Saturday, high pressure across France keeping things

:27:03.:27:08.

relatively calm across the UK. A couple of weather fronts bringing

:27:09.:27:13.

rain into the north-west. Wet across the north-west on Saturday but for

:27:14.:27:19.

most of the mainland a dry day and quite mild. Further rain arriving

:27:20.:27:25.

overnight. Sunday will be cloudier and wetter than Saturday but warmer.

:27:26.:27:31.

Temperatures of 213 degrees in the West as we had through the

:27:32.:27:33.

afternoon. Now, a reminder of

:27:34.:27:35.

tonight's main news... The families of two young women,

:27:36.:27:39.

killed when a driver blacked out at the wheel of his car

:27:40.:27:42.

in Glasgow five years ago, are seeking to bring

:27:43.:27:45.

a private prosecution. Mairi Convy and Laura Stewart died,

:27:46.:27:46.

when William Payne fell unconscious It comes as the family of three

:27:47.:27:49.

victims of the Glasgow bin lorry crash start a private prosecution

:27:50.:27:53.

against driver Harry Clarke. I'll be back with the headlines

:27:54.:27:56.

at 8.00 and the late bulletin Until then,

:27:57.:28:00.

from everyone on the team - right across the country -

:28:01.:28:04.

have a very good evening.
