A second referendum on Scottish independence COULD be held

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says that's possible if the UK Government

triggers Article 50 to leave the EU this year, without

Scotland's position being adequately safeguarded.

Three weeks on from Brexit, two days on from meeting the new Prime

Minister, still a long way from clarity. The First Minister saying

today, we are in unchartered territory. Theresa May wants

agreement to be reached by all parts of the UK before the formal process

to leave the EU begins and promise Scotland a strong voice. What

happens if Westminster triggers Article 50 later this year, without

fully reflecting Scotland's desire to retain strong, European links?

Might the First Minister seek another independence referendum

early in 2017? That is why I am also in parallel to these discussions

making sure the Scottish Parliament is making preparations to have

another independence referendum... Would you be happy to have a

referendum on independence in the first half of next year? I'll have

an independence referendum if I come to a conclusion that I think that is

in the interests of Scotland. I don't think there is a majority in

Scotland at the moment. We have to concentrate on getting the terms

which we will negotiate leaving right. That is the immediate thing

we all have to do. Nicola Sturgeon said at this stage, all options were

open. Including the possibility of Scotland staying in the EU whilst

still part of the UK. Although the UK Cabinet Minister for Brexit

appeared to rule that out. I don't think that works. One of our really

challenging issues to deal with will be the internal border we have with

southern Ireland. We won't go about creating other internal borders

inside the United Kingdom. Two governments in unchartered water,

the nine-month-old was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children

Royal Troon. He equalled the course record with a 63, his four rounds

here over the week has set a new low score for an Open Championship and

his three-shot victory at 20-under par was quite remarkable. He and

Phil Mickelson, like two prize fighters, slugged it out over the

final round here, but it was at the 15th when Stenson drained a monster

putt to pull away from Mickelson and his birdie at the last added a bit

of class to his first Claret Jug. They still speak about the duel in

the sun, the battle between Nicklaus and Watson in 1977. They will now be

speaking about something else in the future. It will be the duel at Royal

Troon in 2016, the year Henrik Stenson became Open Champion.

These weather fronts bringing outbreaks of rain at time. Big

changes afoot as high pressure builds in across the UK. Drawing up

very warm air and in fact some hot weather to come. Tomorrow starts off

dull, with outbreaks of patchy rain. More persistent in the west, fairly

misty and murky towards western coastal areas. That rain extending

into Orkney. Then that gradual improvement with

brighter skies developing through the course of the day, the rain
