More than 30 million images depicting child sexual abuse

:00:16.:00:21.

have been uncovered in a massive Police Scotland investigation.

:00:22.:00:23.

Children as young as three are among more than 500 young people

:00:24.:00:26.

identified as victims or potential victims

:00:27.:00:29.

of online sexual abuse. Police say it's a growing problem.

:00:30.:00:34.

Our correspondent Lucy Adams reports.

:00:35.:00:39.

Police Scotland say there is a massive increase

:00:40.:00:42.

These individuals want to be wherever children are,

:00:43.:00:49.

so they are using websites, forums, chat rooms

:00:50.:00:50.

These men, predominantly, are using the profiles of children,

:00:51.:00:57.

pretending to be children effectively to communicate

:00:58.:01:00.

with younger children, to groom them online,

:01:01.:01:06.

In an unprecedented six-week operation earlier this summer,

:01:07.:01:12.

523 child victims were identified, and more than 30 million indecent

:01:13.:01:20.

and child sexual abuse images were recovered, and there were 392

:01:21.:01:25.

charges, including rape, sexual extortion and grooming.

:01:26.:01:30.

This is children being sexually abused, the images being shared,

:01:31.:01:35.

real victims in Scotland and elsewhere, and it is about these

:01:36.:01:39.

horrific acts that ruin peoples lives, and we need to make

:01:40.:01:41.

One computer alone led to the recovery

:01:42.:01:51.

Police say it will take four full-time officers six

:01:52.:01:58.

Another suspect had communicated with more than 110 children.

:01:59.:02:02.

As well as cracking down on crime online, police are keen to prevent

:02:03.:02:06.

online abuse from happening in the first place.

:02:07.:02:13.

These young people in Clydebank are learning how

:02:14.:02:19.

Many have been victims of cyber bullying.

:02:20.:02:29.

It is the side of the internet you do not know if it is

:02:30.:02:32.

going to stop, it did, but then it did not too long ago.

:02:33.:02:35.

But the best thing I done was actually talk to someone.

:02:36.:02:38.

I think it has went to that stage where no-one knows how

:02:39.:02:41.

to cope with it sometimes, whereas we have got groups like this

:02:42.:02:44.

that you can come to and talk with them, it is not

:02:45.:02:47.

like they are not going to help you a lot.

:02:48.:02:50.

Reputation, safety, responsibility...

:02:51.:02:54.

Police say the scale of the problem is far higher

:02:55.:02:57.

They are warning parents and children to be vigilant.

:02:58.:03:05.

Two batches of cheese are being recalled by a manufacturer

:03:06.:03:09.

in Lanarkshire, after 16 people contracted E-coli.

:03:10.:03:11.

Two batches of Dunsyre Blue Cheese are possibly affected,

:03:12.:03:17.

according to Food Standards Scotland.

:03:18.:03:20.

The manufacturer has recalled the cheese as a precaution

:03:21.:03:22.

and said no confirmed link had been shown.

:03:23.:03:34.

As a responsible company we took the voluntary decision last night to

:03:35.:03:40.

recall two batches of cheese which we were concerned about, and we have

:03:41.:03:45.

done that, so at the moment we are doing a lot of testing ourselves and

:03:46.:03:52.

investigation to see whether there is in fact any evidence of a

:03:53.:03:53.

connection. RBS may have to raise more capital

:03:54.:03:58.

after a Europe-wide stress test The test found that RBS, which is

:03:59.:04:01.

73% owned by British taxpayers had the one of the worst responses

:04:02.:04:05.

to a series of adverse scenarios, The Scottish Government plan to cut

:04:06.:04:08.

air passenger duty could force other taxes to rise to fill a hole

:04:09.:04:15.

in the budget. That's according to some of those

:04:16.:04:17.

who have responded to But others say reducing the cost

:04:18.:04:20.

of flights will bring more visitors

:04:21.:04:24.

to Scotland and boost the economy. Here's our business

:04:25.:04:27.

correspondent David Henderson. Anyone flying in and out of Scottish

:04:28.:04:40.

airports has toupee Air Passenger Duty on top of the price of the

:04:41.:04:46.

flight. It is a UK tax on flying and set at different rates were just --

:04:47.:04:51.

different journeys. If you're flying short-haul to Europe and who travel

:04:52.:04:56.

economy class, you pay an extra ?13. But a passenger on a long-haul

:04:57.:05:02.

flight pays far more, at least ?73 and double that if you travel

:05:03.:05:05.

business class. The Scottish Government wants to cut VAT tax in

:05:06.:05:07.

half. -- at that tax in half. It is the busiest time of year

:05:08.:05:13.

at Scotland's airports as holiday-makers head for the sun,

:05:14.:05:15.

but they are paying As Holyrood gains new powers,

:05:16.:05:17.

air passenger duty will come under the control

:05:18.:05:21.

of the Scottish Government, and ministers here

:05:22.:05:23.

wants to cut that tax and make it cheaper to fly

:05:24.:05:24.

to and from Scotland. Some business leaders

:05:25.:05:27.

say it is a good plan. The case is very clear

:05:28.:05:32.

for a reduction in APD. We have one of the highest rates

:05:33.:05:36.

in the world, and a signal to reduce that rate in Scotland would send out

:05:37.:05:39.

a massive boost to business in Scotland and send out a signal

:05:40.:05:43.

to the rest of the world Environmental groups

:05:44.:05:46.

say if more people fly, there will be more greenhouse gas

:05:47.:05:55.

and harm to the environment. And some are sceptical that this tax

:05:56.:05:58.

cut would boost the economy. We are not sure, for example,

:05:59.:06:04.

that if APD were cut, that the revenues that the Scottish

:06:05.:06:09.

Government might make from any increase in economic activity

:06:10.:06:11.

would compensate for the loss from air passenger duty,

:06:12.:06:16.

and then the consequence of that might be that other taxes

:06:17.:06:17.

would have to be raised. That looks like a gamble

:06:18.:06:20.

the Scottish Government is prepared to take as it bids to boost

:06:21.:06:24.

Scotland's links So there is no agreement on whether

:06:25.:06:38.

Air Passenger Duty should be cut, what ministers at Holyrood say that

:06:39.:06:42.

they will push ahead with their plans for a replacement. For those

:06:43.:06:48.

of you making travel plans, the new tax is set to take effect in April

:06:49.:06:52.

2000 and 18. We are told that within three years the tax will be cut by

:06:53.:06:57.

50%, and the government wants to abolish the tax entirely when public

:06:58.:07:00.

finances allow. Workers on seven Shell installations

:07:01.:07:01.

involved in a dispute with their employer,

:07:02.:07:04.

the Wood Group, have announced This week, members of the Unite

:07:05.:07:05.

and RMT unions staged the first strike in the North Sea for nearly

:07:06.:07:11.

30 years in response to a long-running row over pay

:07:12.:07:14.

and working patterns. The next strike will begin

:07:15.:07:16.

on Thursday morning. The John Muir Trust has conceded

:07:17.:07:22.

defeat in its legal battle with the Scottish Government and SSE

:07:23.:07:25.

over plans for The Trust successfully stopped

:07:26.:07:27.

the Stronelairg development near Fort Augustus in a judicial

:07:28.:07:33.

review at the Court of Session. But last week that decision

:07:34.:07:37.

was overturned Today, the Trust said

:07:38.:07:39.

after considering all the options, they had reached the end of the road

:07:40.:07:43.

with their legal action. Well, it's over to Judith now for

:07:44.:07:46.

the weekend weather forecast. Thank you very much, Sally. It was a

:07:47.:07:57.

beautiful end to the day across parts of southern Scotland. And here

:07:58.:08:03.

is a picture from one of our Weather Watchers. Any showers will become

:08:04.:08:12.

confined to the north tonight, and you will see clearing skies pretty

:08:13.:08:16.

much across the country. First thing tomorrow, largely dry and bright to

:08:17.:08:21.

start with in Central, southern and eastern Scotland in particular.

:08:22.:08:25.

Showers across the north-west as we had through the course of the

:08:26.:08:30.

morning. Some cloud bubbling up and those showers becoming more

:08:31.:08:33.

widespread, but in saying that, if you catch a shower it should pass

:08:34.:08:38.

quickly so there will be lots of dry, bright weather in between times

:08:39.:08:45.

as well. As for the rest of the UK, Northern Ireland seeing some

:08:46.:08:47.

showers, western parts seeing some showers by the middle of the day and

:08:48.:08:51.

as we head through the afternoon, showers becoming widespread across

:08:52.:08:55.

England and Wales. Still lots of dry, bright weather in the forecast.

:08:56.:09:00.

In Scotland, we should see highs of around 19 Celsius in Edinburgh, Fife

:09:01.:09:08.

and Perthshire. Always cooler in the north with a fresh north-westerly

:09:09.:09:12.

wind. It looks like brightening up for the Northern Isles, too. Then

:09:13.:09:18.

those showers will become confined to northern parts as we head into

:09:19.:09:22.

Saturday night and it will feel cold, with long, clear spells and

:09:23.:09:27.

showers continuing in the north. Those showers linked to low pressure

:09:28.:09:33.

to the north of us. And that cold, north-westerly airflow as well.

:09:34.:09:39.

Showers for the North and pushing into the West on Sunday, still lots

:09:40.:09:43.

of dry weather as we head through the day in southern and eastern

:09:44.:09:48.

Scotland. On Monday, high pressure builds, were still some showers in

:09:49.:09:52.

the far north. And that is your weather forecast.

:09:53.:09:57.
