The organisation which represents rank-and-file police officers has

said a violent incident in Glasgow has raised questions

about whether they can protect the public.

The Scottish Police Federation said it was deeply worrying that armed

officers were not dispatched in the case of an attacker

who injured two people before killing himself.

Police Scotland has insisted that armed officers were not needed.

have been made to send armed officers like these to the scene.

an increase in the number of armed officers.

Thursday's incident has now been referred to the police watchdog.

A man and a woman have been found dead at a house

Police are treating the deaths as unexplained.

The 55-year-old man and the woman, who was 52, were found in the house

in Inglis Avenue yesterday afternoon.

A ward at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow has been

closed to new patients over the Easter weekend

because of the vomiting and diarrhoea bug rotavirus.
