He was crushed to death in a rubbish truck.

:00:00.:00:00.

Now for the latest financial news with Sally Bundock

:00:00.:00:00.

Investors await the latest earnings news from Alibaba as the worlds

:00:07.:00:20.

biggest on line retailer gears up for "Singles Day."

:00:21.:00:26.

US coal miners say they won't vote for Hilary Clinton as she pledges

:00:27.:00:32.

to move away from fossil fuels if she becomes President.

:00:33.:00:34.

Also in the programme, we'll cross over to Asia to hear how

:00:35.:00:47.

markets have been reacting to news of a new Prime Minister.

:00:48.:00:58.

A reshuffle of top jobs in South Korea.

:00:59.:01:01.

We start with news of a true titan of the business world,

:01:02.:01:05.

The Chinese firm is one of the biggest e-commerce companies

:01:06.:01:08.

So, when it reports its latest results in a few hours' time,

:01:09.:01:12.

it's going to attract a lot of attention.

:01:13.:01:14.

This gives you a sense of its enormity.

:01:15.:01:17.

Last year, transactions on Alibaba sites totalled some $462 billion.

:01:18.:01:19.

That's more than eBay and Amazon combined.

:01:20.:01:22.

The company became one of the globe's most valuable tech

:01:23.:01:25.

firms after raising $25 billion from its US stock market launch.

:01:26.:01:28.

Investors will be looking for news of its plans for global expansion.

:01:29.:01:31.

It's mobile payment system, Alipay is key to that,

:01:32.:01:33.

with plans for it to be introduced in Europe,

:01:34.:01:36.

Alipay is also important for the company's desire

:01:37.:01:43.

to capitalise on the shift by consumers to shopping

:01:44.:01:46.

Nick Hood is a business risk advisor at Opus Restructuring.

:01:47.:01:59.

Good morning. Good morning. Alibaba will tell us how it is doing soon.

:02:00.:02:11.

It will come out with quarterly earnings of $1 billion according to

:02:12.:02:15.

some analysts, making it four times as profitable as Amazon, despite all

:02:16.:02:22.

sorts of questions about on line profitability. This is one business

:02:23.:02:27.

doing well. It is interesting. It has been doing well, up 77% since

:02:28.:02:33.

being listed in the US. But there is a lot of talk about how short

:02:34.:02:38.

sellers and speculators are shorting the stock. They are playing with the

:02:39.:02:45.

stock, thinking it could be wobbly in 2017. Why is that? The issue

:02:46.:02:52.

facing it is the doubts about where the Chinese economy is going to be

:02:53.:02:56.

there is no doubt that at this stage in its developer and it is heavily

:02:57.:03:02.

linked to the Chinese economy. And depending on how that goes, Alibaba

:03:03.:03:06.

will follow. It is about size and scale. The population of mainland

:03:07.:03:13.

China is enormous and so is Alibaba at the same time. On Singles Day

:03:14.:03:21.

last year they made more than $14 billion in one day. What about

:03:22.:03:28.

Alibaba outside of mainland China? It is certainly gearing up to move

:03:29.:03:35.

offshore, if you like. Outside the behemoth that China is. At the same

:03:36.:03:39.

time, Amazon is attacking it in its own home market, launching Amazon

:03:40.:03:45.

Prime. This is a game played between these two enormous companies, with

:03:46.:03:52.

Alibaba trying to move out of China and vice-versa. Where the youth

:03:53.:03:58.

think buying things outside of mainland China might go to Alibaba

:03:59.:04:07.

first? We are a bit away from that. There is no indication there is a

:04:08.:04:12.

shift. If you look at millennial is in the US at the moment, Amazon is

:04:13.:04:19.

there most trusted brand. It will take an awful lot of time and effort

:04:20.:04:23.

to shake that. Thank you for your time, Nick. That is interesting. We

:04:24.:04:28.

will get the results from Alibaba... It is about 11 o'clock at the UK

:04:29.:04:34.

time. We will hear it it then and update you.

:04:35.:04:37.

With less than a week to go before the US Presidential Election,

:04:38.:04:40.

let's turn our attention to the Republican stronghold of West

:04:41.:04:43.

The Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton has trailed

:04:44.:04:45.

there after comments she made in March.

:04:46.:04:47.

"We are going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies

:04:48.:04:52.

It's a reflection of her goal of moving away from fossil fuels

:04:53.:04:56.

But the coal industry is one of the state's biggest employers

:04:57.:05:00.

and her remarks alienated miners, many of whom are already

:05:01.:05:02.

Michelle Fleury reports from Boone County, West Virginia.

:05:03.:05:12.

The mountains of West Virginia, with a thick canopy of trees. It is hard

:05:13.:05:22.

to believe this is the heart of American coal country. In just seven

:05:23.:05:26.

years, coal production in the area has dropped 50%. David lost his job

:05:27.:05:38.

in April. Now he runs a farm stand. I need money. I need to make good

:05:39.:05:43.

wages. It is a little risky but it is good money. I would not support

:05:44.:05:47.

Hillary Clinton because she is against coal. Donald Trump is the

:05:48.:05:56.

best of the two evils. Many here feel left behind and forgotten. Coal

:05:57.:06:01.

jobs has been left behind by tougher environmental rules and cheaper gas.

:06:02.:06:07.

With each bankruptcy and mine closure there has been more jobs

:06:08.:06:12.

left and more pain in communities like this. Pro-coal West Virginia

:06:13.:06:22.

used to be out and out unionised Democrat area, but the Clinton was

:06:23.:06:29.

the last definite democratic candidate liked by them. There is

:06:30.:06:32.

more talk about President Obama's war or on coal. Many like this man

:06:33.:06:39.

blame him for closures of mines. When you have a president that says

:06:40.:06:43.

we will not make it illegal but we will bankrupt those for using coal

:06:44.:06:47.

fired power plants, it is quite personal. When you have a candidate

:06:48.:06:55.

that says we are going to put a lot of coal businesses and miners out of

:06:56.:06:59.

business, that is very personal here. Lot there is no compromise.

:07:00.:07:03.

Many people in the region feel abandoned by politicians, even those

:07:04.:07:06.

fighting against the coal industry, like this activist, Maria. We built

:07:07.:07:14.

this country. We built this country from the coal my dad of the ground.

:07:15.:07:24.

-- mined out. We are owed something back. We are needing something more

:07:25.:07:32.

than the pollution and poverty. Few here expect the coal industry to

:07:33.:07:36.

return to its glory days. But Donald Trump is offering hope to a group

:07:37.:07:40.

who don't feel politicians in Washington speak for them. Michelle

:07:41.:07:48.

Fleury, BBC News, West Virginia. It is all changing in South Korea!

:07:49.:07:51.

In the last few hours, South Korean President Park Geun-hye

:07:52.:07:54.

has named a new Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

:07:55.:07:56.

She's looking to contain the scandal surrounding her and her confidante -

:07:57.:08:00.

a woman alleged to have had an inappropriate influence

:08:01.:08:02.

The plot thickens. Will this help are? It looks like it may or may

:08:03.:08:20.

not. We will find out over the next days and weeks. But this influence

:08:21.:08:27.

scandal is rocking the South Korean government. There was a policy

:08:28.:08:32.

adviser under the former president and he is the new Prime Minister. He

:08:33.:08:40.

will be the fourth to serve under President Park Geun-hye. And another

:08:41.:08:45.

will be taking over the tough financial role. He will be her fifth

:08:46.:08:50.

Finance Minister in four years. The moves are not likely to result in

:08:51.:08:54.

any positive changes according to analysts. But the uncertainty of how

:08:55.:08:58.

much longer she will remain in power is impacting market sentiment. Her

:08:59.:09:04.

approval ratings have sunk to single digits in the wake of these

:09:05.:09:08.

allegations. The markets are continuing to retreat, with one of

:09:09.:09:13.

the worst performances over the past month, falling by another 1.5%. The

:09:14.:09:20.

currency is down by 1% against the US dollar. Certainly, all the

:09:21.:09:25.

changes, the scandal, they are impacting the South Korean market

:09:26.:09:31.

and the government. Sally. Thanks a lot, Rico Hizon. These are the

:09:32.:09:36.

markets. All our trading lower, losing quite a bit of ground. The

:09:37.:09:40.

Nikkei is down. The Swiss franc and the yen and gold are getting

:09:41.:09:46.

stronger. People are getting worried about the outcome of the US

:09:47.:09:51.

election. We in the US as well. We will talk about that more in a few

:09:52.:10:03.

minutes. -- we are seeing declines in the US as well.

:10:04.:10:12.

Politicians and business leaders from both sides of the Irish border
