General Election 2017: 12/05/2017 Party Election Broadcasts: Alliance Party

Hello, again.

It's hard to believe another election is happening so soon.

And even harder to believe the direction in which the UK and

Northern Ireland is being taken.

The Government, supported by some local MPs,

is heading towards a recklessly hard Brexit,

putting up barriers between us and the rest of Europe.

Looking inward and backward.

Threatening the way in which we live, learn, work and trade.

The wrong direction for the whole of the UK, but particularly bad for us.

Meanwhile, other parties are risking devolution,

endangering our public services like health and education.

Again, political leaders who are looking inward and backward,

instead of outward and forward.

More interested in winning tribal headcounts than delivering for you.

So, although you're probably as fed up as we are,

this election gives you a really important opportunity.

An opportunity to change direction.

To say enough is enough.

To set a new course.

To tell Westminster and Stormont

to turn away from the politics of division,

towards politics that brings people together,

celebrates diversity and offers hope.

That's our kind of politics.

Alliance exists to change the direction of our society,

towards a society where your needs, not party interests, come first.

Towards a society that engages positively with our nearest

neighbours and the rest of the world.

Towards a progressive, vibrant and prosperous community,

that looks forward and outward.

That's the direction that Alliance wants to go.

It's why we promoted power-sharing long before anyone else.

And perhaps why the only Executives that lasted the full term

were those with Alliance ministers.

It's why, when we elected our first MP, their record of representing

Northern Ireland at Westminster exceeded every other local party.

It's why we are determined to oppose a recklessly hard Brexit, and

to protect Northern Ireland from the irreversible damage that will cause.

And it's why in the last election,

the Alliance vote increased by 50%, growing faster than any other party.

Attracting votes from more people and places than for decades.

So, if, like them, you want this place to change direction,

then vote in the direction of progressive politics.

In the direction of a shared, prosperous,

outward and forward-looking Northern Ireland.

In the direction of positive engagement with Europe and beyond,

and of a Stormont that delivers for you.
