Socialist Labour Party 09/05/2014 Party Election Broadcasts for the European Parliament

On 22nd May, people have a chance to vote in an election

which will decide the future of Wales.

The Socialist Labour Party is committed to

Britain's complete withdrawal from the European Union.

The European Union has undermined and sought to replace our democracy

and has dictated policies that have led to mass unemployment.

The European Union's free-market policy

means the unrestricted movement of capital and labour,

a policy that has had dire consequences

for people and jobs across Europe and for workers across Wales.

Wales is now being dictated to by bureaucrats in Brussels

whose policies have led to the privatisation of everything

from our railways to our electricity, gas and water

and who are a driving force behind

the recent privatisation of our postal service.

On Thursday, 22nd May, every voter in Wales

has the opportunity to vote for the Socialist Labour Party.

We have a simple message in this election -

vote for the Socialist Labour Party

to help us get Wales and Britain as a whole

out of the European Union so that we can determine our own future.

The European Union, with its commitment

to free-market capitalism, has caused economic chaos in Britain

and this has resulted in nearly two and a half million people

being officially unemployed,

although the real figure is considerably higher.

On top of this, millions more have little or no job security

as a result of fixed-term or zero-hour contracts

and they are becoming society's working poor.

Maybe this is partly why we now have 400 food banks in the UK,

serving more than 350,000 starving people.

Yes, here, in the UK today.

So instead of investing in jobs and services to generate prosperity

in our society, recent governments have imposed austerity upon us.

This is at the same time as giving billions of pounds hand over fist

to failing bankers and allowing big business

and the obscenely wealthy 1% of the country

to exploit tax loopholes to the tune of £120 billion a year.

Austerity is a European Union driven agenda.

Vote for the Socialist Labour Party.

In Wales, we've seen savage attacks on local government, education

and our National Health Service,

attacks which New Labour in power in Wales has enabled.

In local government, we've seen wages being driven down,

redundancies being imposed

and services being cut to the point of failure.

In education, a funding gap now exists

which sees a funding shortfall of over £600 per pupil per year

in Wales compared to England.

In our National Health Service,

we've seen a disastrous reorganisation programme

causing loss of services across Wales

and which is causing particular hardship in our rural communities.

The Socialist Labour Party believes

that our local government services, education system

and National Health Service need the funding and deserve the support

required to meet the needs of the people of Wales.

The European Union is having a detrimental impact

on farming in Wales.

Farmers and rural areas are abandoned,

left with losses from harsh winters

with no adequate compensation from the EU.

The European Union will not raise its voice

against proposed new nuclear power stations,

like Wylfa B on Anglesey.

This is despite Europe still being contaminated with radioactivity

from the Chernobyl disaster of 1986,

the consequences of which Welsh farmers are still facing.

The Socialist Labour Party believes that the needs of farmers

and rural communities should not be ignored

and is opposed to nuclear power stations being imposed on Wales.

In this election, the people of Wales have got to make a choice.

A vote for any other party isn't a vote for independence or progress,

it's a vote for the cuts of the European Union and the free market.

A vote for the Socialist Labour Party is a vote for Wales

and, above all, a vote for socialism.
