On 22nd May, people have a chance to vote in an election | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
which will decide the future of Wales. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
The Socialist Labour Party is committed to | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
Britain's complete withdrawal from the European Union. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
The European Union has undermined and sought to replace our democracy | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
and has dictated policies that have led to mass unemployment. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:22
The European Union's free-market policy | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
means the unrestricted movement of capital and labour, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
a policy that has had dire consequences | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
for people and jobs across Europe and for workers across Wales. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:35
Wales is now being dictated to by bureaucrats in Brussels | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
whose policies have led to the privatisation of everything | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
from our railways to our electricity, gas and water | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
and who are a driving force behind | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
the recent privatisation of our postal service. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
On Thursday, 22nd May, every voter in Wales | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
has the opportunity to vote for the Socialist Labour Party. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
We have a simple message in this election - | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
vote for the Socialist Labour Party | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
to help us get Wales and Britain as a whole | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
out of the European Union so that we can determine our own future. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:07
The European Union, with its commitment | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
to free-market capitalism, has caused economic chaos in Britain | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
and this has resulted in nearly two and a half million people | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
being officially unemployed, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
although the real figure is considerably higher. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
On top of this, millions more have little or no job security | 0:01:25 | 0:01:29
as a result of fixed-term or zero-hour contracts | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
and they are becoming society's working poor. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Maybe this is partly why we now have 400 food banks in the UK, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
serving more than 350,000 starving people. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
Yes, here, in the UK today. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
So instead of investing in jobs and services to generate prosperity | 0:01:45 | 0:01:49
in our society, recent governments have imposed austerity upon us. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
This is at the same time as giving billions of pounds hand over fist | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
to failing bankers and allowing big business | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
and the obscenely wealthy 1% of the country | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
to exploit tax loopholes to the tune of £120 billion a year. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:07
Austerity is a European Union driven agenda. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
Vote for the Socialist Labour Party. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
In Wales, we've seen savage attacks on local government, education | 0:02:16 | 0:02:20
and our National Health Service, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
attacks which New Labour in power in Wales has enabled. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
In local government, we've seen wages being driven down, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
redundancies being imposed | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
and services being cut to the point of failure. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
In education, a funding gap now exists | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
which sees a funding shortfall of over £600 per pupil per year | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
in Wales compared to England. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
In our National Health Service, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
we've seen a disastrous reorganisation programme | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
causing loss of services across Wales | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
and which is causing particular hardship in our rural communities. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:58
The Socialist Labour Party believes | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
that our local government services, education system | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
and National Health Service need the funding and deserve the support | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
required to meet the needs of the people of Wales. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
The European Union is having a detrimental impact | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
on farming in Wales. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Farmers and rural areas are abandoned, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
left with losses from harsh winters | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
with no adequate compensation from the EU. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
The European Union will not raise its voice | 0:03:27 | 0:03:31
against proposed new nuclear power stations, | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
like Wylfa B on Anglesey. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:37
This is despite Europe still being contaminated with radioactivity | 0:03:37 | 0:03:43
from the Chernobyl disaster of 1986, | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
the consequences of which Welsh farmers are still facing. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:51
The Socialist Labour Party believes that the needs of farmers | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
and rural communities should not be ignored | 0:03:56 | 0:04:00
and is opposed to nuclear power stations being imposed on Wales. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:05
In this election, the people of Wales have got to make a choice. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:11
A vote for any other party isn't a vote for independence or progress, | 0:04:11 | 0:04:15
it's a vote for the cuts of the European Union and the free market. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:20
A vote for the Socialist Labour Party is a vote for Wales | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
and, above all, a vote for socialism. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:26
I urge you to vote for the Socialist Labour Party on 22nd May. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:31 |
