---|---|---|---|
Once upon a time, there was a land with rolling green hills, | 0:00:10 | 0:00:16 | |
deep, blue lakes and sparkling shores. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19 | |
But something was wrong. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21 | |
The land was being spoiled. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24 | |
Loud, angry voices shouted over everyone | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27 | |
and the people drifted away from each other | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30 | |
and became isolated and fearful. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32 | |
The hills, lakes and shores became dismal and grey. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:38 | |
"What a waste," said the people. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40 | |
A large machine was built | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42 | |
to end the wasted opportunities that blighted the land. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:46 | |
It was called Stormont. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48 | |
"To make Stormont work," the people were told, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53 | |
"you need some very important men, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56 | |
"and maybe, just maybe, some very important women. | 0:00:56 | 0:01:00 | |
"You must call them MLAs | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04 | |
"and they will spend billions of pounds to make Stormont work. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:08 | |
"This will reduce the waste." | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11 | |
But this did not happen. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14 | |
The machine often got blocked by some of the MLAs. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17 | |
They had to keep bringing in men from America to fix it. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23 | |
"What a waste!" the people cried again. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26 | |
But there was one MLA who did get things done. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30 | |
His name was Steven Agnew and he was in the Green Party. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:35 | |
The Green Party hated the waste. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38 | |
In fact, they wanted zero waste. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42 | |
Even though he was the only Green in the Assembly, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46 | |
he introduced a law to make Stormont work better for children, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:51 | |
stood up for equality for all the people, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:55 | |
protected the hills and lakes and shores | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58 | |
from those who were causing damage. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00 | |
"What if there were other Greens in the Assembly?" he thought. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:06 | |
"Think of the difference two, three | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09 | |
"or even 18 Greens could make. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12 | |
"Then we could all live happily ever after." | 0:02:12 | 0:02:16 | |
More and more people have joined the Green Party | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20 | |
and it's now bigger than ever, but if we're going to end the waste, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23 | |
we need more Green MLAs in Stormont. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26 | |
We have 18 candidates, so for the first time, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29 | |
no matter where you are in Northern Ireland, you can vote Green. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33 | |
I'm very proud that we're standing an equal number of women and men | 0:02:33 | 0:02:38 | |
because we believe Stormont should reflect our society. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:43 | |
Vote Green Party 1 on Thursday 5th May for zero waste. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47 |
