English Local Elections: 01/05/2017 Party Election Broadcasts: Labour

The Conservatives say the economy's doing fine,

but that's not how it feels to most people.

The economy may have been working for big business,

but it hasn't been working for the majority of people.

The NHS and social care are on the brink of collapse,

and for the first time in a generation,

the Tories are cutting the funding for our schoolchildren.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Here are a few examples of how Labour is investing

to make people's lives better.

Right here in Sheffield, we have a housing crisis,

but this Labour council has done something about it -

we've actually built the first council houses in over 30 years.

Haven Court is a new £9 million state-of-the-art facility

developed by South Tyneside's Labour council to support our

elderly population, particularly those suffering from dementia.

Here in Leicester, we've created new apprenticeship programmes

and paid work placements, helping over 1,200 young people

get valuable experience in the workplace,

to learn new skills and to secure good jobs.

Northumbria Police have suffered the worst cuts

of any police force in the UK.

Labour promised that they would keep neighbourhood policing,

so that people could see individuals they trust,

and they've done that.

We've not just built any council house,

we've built homes that are fit for the future,

homes that address fuel poverty and homes that people can afford.

Rather than occupying a hospital bed,

those who need long-term support can live at Haven Court

in a safe and secure environment,

providing much-needed reassurance for their families and loved ones.

By investing and working with business,

we've unlocked millions of pounds of new investments,

creating hundreds of new jobs for local people.

That's the difference Labour can make.

Despite the hideous cuts of the Tory government, Labour here in Sheffield

is making a difference, and it's helping address the housing crisis.

Northumbria Police have the highest satisfaction rate

in the whole country.

Labour has, therefore, made lots and lots of difference

to thousands of people round here.

When it comes to supporting the most vulnerable in our communities,

Labour can be relied upon to deliver and make a real difference.

That's what Labour is doing across our country -

taking action to improve the lives of millions of people.

In the coming weeks, people will have the chance to vote

for a Labour council and a Labour government

that will stand up for you.
