Northern Ireland Assembly Election: 02/02/2017 Party Election Broadcasts: Social Democratic and Labour Party

We are living through

massive political change.

It hasn't been easy watching.

We will build a great wall along...

Old certainties we once thought permanent are no more.

Values we once took for granted are under threat.

Institutions we once believed stable are now at risk.

Now, more than ever, we need change that can unite us,

rather than divide us.

We need change that puts an end to the old battles of identity

and replaces it with a new battle for ideas.

But to make that change happen,

we need to turn our anger into action and, to do that,

we need to come out and vote on the 2nd of March.

Scandals have plagued this government,

from the renewable heat incentive,

to the DUP's links with NAMA,

to using taxpayer's money

to fund loyalist paramilitaries.

Millions of pounds has been siphoned off to paramilitaries

posing as community workers.

Tens of millions of pounds has gone up in smoke,

as a result of the renewable heat incentive scandal -

a scheme devised by Arlene Foster.

You have the chance to change all of that in this election.

You have the chance to put honesty and integrity

back in the centre of political life.

Vote SDLP - make change happen.

Brexit not only threatens jobs and our economy,

it also threatens a return of border crossings between North and South.

This passport represents my Irish and European citizenship.

We're the only party that are representing the 56%

of those who voted to Remain.

We will fight against a hard border.

We will fight to secure special EU status

and we will fight to support those EU citizens living here.

Northern Ireland is being left behind

when it comes to winning equality for all our people.

Some in our government talk about equality,

but have delivered nothing.

For the SDLP, equality isn't just a slogan for an election poster.

It has to be about government delivery.

That means supporting families back into work,

with affordable childcare,

and it means finally delivering for the thousands of women

who are being denied their full state pension.

And it means that 2017 is the year that Northern Ireland

finally gets full equal civil marriage.

It also means finally delivering on an Irish Language Act.

So you have a choice.

You can vote for parties that can't work together,

that don't want to work together,

or you can vote for parties

that DO want to work together,

that actually enjoy working together.

Every election, people like me tell you that this

is a very important election and that you have to come out and vote.

And I understand your frustration with the politics of today,

and of the last 10 and 15 years,

but let me tell you this -

this IS an important election.

This IS a chance to make a change.

But you can't do it by sitting at home.

You have to come out and make your voice heard.

I'm asking you to do that.

To make that change, by voting SDLP.
