Remember how it felt.

Businesses closing...

..people losing their jobs...

..families left without a pay packet at the end of the month...

..Government borrowing on a scale not seen since the War.

After 13 long years of Labour,

Britain was down -

but we weren't out.

Accepting defeat was never an option.

Instead, we did what British people do -

we rolled up our sleeves and got stuck in.

Small businesses opened early and worked late.

People took a chance and built something of their own.

Young people learned new skills so they could get on in life.

And, working together, we began to clear up Labour's mess,

reducing the deficit

and facing up to the debts they left behind.

After four short years,

there are now 400,000 more businesses in our country.

1.8 million more people are in work,

taking home a pay packet and providing for their families.

And youth unemployment is falling

at its fastest annual rate since records began.

Together, we are building a stronger, healthier economy

so our children can grow up without mountains of debt

and are free to reach their potential.

And if we keep going,

keep working through our long-term economic plan,

then a better, brighter future lies ahead.

There is still more to do

but if we keep going

we can secure a better future for Britain

and everyone within it.

Let me tell you what that means.

Hard-working families rewarded with a meaningful job

and a decent standard of living

because their taxes are low and our debts are being paid down.

People with the security of owning their own home

and the financial independence to enjoy retirement.

An economy that's stable,

so hard-working taxpayers aren't afraid of losing their job

or their home or their savings.

An education system that helps our children reach their potential

and succeed in life.

And a Britain that stands even taller in the world.

A stronger country, a prouder nation.

So back our plan today

and help us secure that better future for Britain.
