Into the end zone... Ridiculous! Unbelievable!

We got it. My goodness, the legend just goes on! The pass is

intercepted at the goal-line! Unreal. New England, we new

champions. Welcome to the San Francisco Bay

area, known for its fantastic architecture and stunning scenery.

But none of that matters today. This is the biggest day in American

sport, when the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos go

head-to-head for an iconic trophy. Let's start at the beginning, shall

we? Back in the 60s, when a jewellery designer scribbled a few

ideas down on a cocktail napkin over a business lunch, he had no idea

what he was letting the world in for. What a stunner. Handcrafted,

solid sterling silver. It took me a couple of years to get a name, but I

think it suits me. Vince. Since then, things really started to pick

up. Over the years, I've seen it all, I have been passed from legend

to legend. I have been photographed more times than I can remember. I

have had that once-in-a-lifetime moment over and over again. I've had

some good times. This is the glitz and glamour of the Star-Spangled

Banner in its glory. Anything and everything you can possibly imagine

has happened, as well as a few things you can't. Look at me now.

Almost half a century later. The world has changed. There's no doubt

about that. I'm still the same. And tonight is a special occasion.

Tonight's the night when what started off as a drop of silver

turns to gold. So welcome to the past, welcome to the future. Welcome

to Super Bowl 50. And welcome to the Levi's Stadium in

Santa Clara. It's about a 45 minute Drive from San Francisco on a good

day. In the traffic! Sometimes maybe two hours, two and a half! We are

not far off Super Bowl 50 kick off just after 11:30pm your time. Three

very excited gentlemen. Osi has lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy

twice. Jason Bell a seven-year veteran of the NFL in defence with

Houston, Dallas and the Giants. And Mike Carlson, the journalist and

broadcaster who has covered nearly all 50! Seven out of the BBC. With

two former players and a journalist, I would expect you to take all of

this in your stride, and yet you are not. You are absolutely buzzing.

Bouncing off the walls, this is so exciting. Sitting up here with you

and Mike, I'm having the time of my life. This is fantastic. You got on

the field earlier, it's a remarkable venue. It's amazing, so exciting.

There is a buzz in the air. A brand-new stadium, built for this

season. There are apps that tell you how busy the toilet is. It is the

interactive experience. Many stadiums feel closed in, this is

wide open. This position is virtually the same as when Santonio

Holmes caught the Super Bowl winning pass right below us. Probably the

most exciting moment I have seen in a football game. Super Bowl

veterans, you know it is not just about the football. The half-time

show has amazing importance. This year, for the 50th Super Bowl, the

owner has gone to our very own Coldplay. We will bring you that in

foil, they have two or three very special guests lined up to be with

them. -- in full. I hope they all turn up! Super Bowl week begins with

media day, all the players from both sides, both sets of coaches there,

for anybody and everybody to interview, including Osi. This is

the part some people hate, some people love, media day. We have

media coverage from all over the world, the fans are loving it.

First, the AFC champs, the Denver Broncos.

See this guy talking? I have known him since he was 11. He always told

me, hey, you are not going to be great until you win a Super Bowl! He

has done it, I am trying to do the same. Tell us about the game plan

tomorrow against Cam Newton. He is number one of one in quarterbacks.

He can on the ball really well, he can make the big plays and he

orchestrates the offence. You have to slow him down, you are not going

to be able to stop him, I will let you know that, but you have to get

pressure on him. The reason they have won 17 games this year... He

has made a great transition to the NFL. In a short period of time. From

the college game. I think the sky is the limit for him. For me, I have

always viewed things differently, played differently. Not in the

prototype way. Athletic quarterback coming out. For that person that may

have made a mistake in their life, they can look at me and say, Cam did

it, so I still have hope. One of these quarterbacks ain't built for

this moment. Deion Sanders, prime-time protection. A lot of

time, a lot of film to watch, how do you stay relaxed and not get caught

up in everything going on? If you look in the dictionary, you go on

the internet and you type in football, it says, a game that is

played. It is all about having fun. When we were kids and we said let's

play a game, we got excited because it is fun. You have to keep having

fun with it. This team was full of guys with charisma, different guys

from different places all over, but we all pull in the same direction.

Not trying to make us conform to this or that, this is the way we do

it, no, it's about being yourself and when you do that you are going

to be successful. One of my favourite all-time players, my

favourite celebration. Can you give us a glimpse? Just a little bit!

It's hard to pull it out when it ain't gametime! You have to get the

stands right. You have to unsheathe your sword. You run through the

quarterback and... Slice away! The most important question when you

watch that, when you were chatting to Roman Harper, were you thinking,

what on earth are you wearing? Where did you get those sunglasses? I knew

he had the eye injury! I thought we were friends, I just wasn't sure! I

thought George Clinton was part of the half-time show! Remarkable

sunglasses. When you were there, was it possible to gauge who was more

relaxed, as a camp, talking to both sets of players? Yes, it was

amazing, when I heard the Carolina Panthers talk, they were all saying

the same thing, like they were in unison about how they believed in

each other and the destiny of the team. It was definitely different

than the Broncos. It has been a big thing this week. Each camp appears

to be fighting for who has been disrespected the most. Is that

normal in the Super Bowl? You look for motivation where you can find

it. Often you watch the teams come out and you think, boy, that team

looks tight, that team looks relaxed. It often makes more sense

than you would think. How did you find media day as a player? Pretty

annoying. Not that I didn't enjoy it, the media is a big part of what

we do and getting the message to the fans, but to sit and answer the same

questions over and over... A guy would be standing next to a reporter

who asked me the exact same question, you would be, like, man,

did you not just hear me answer the question? It was pretty frustration.

We ask the same questions over and over, as you will find out over the

next four hours! I had a tweet earlier from Panthers UK saying, are

we going to get more hate on the Panthers? I said, hang on, that is a

very strong word. And if you had been watching the highlights over

the course of the season, the doubt doesn't come from all of us on the

panel, there is one person in particular who doubts the Panthers.

Here we go! The undefeated Carolina Panthers!

There is no way they go undefeated. Cam Newton is playing MVP football,

that is a ridiculous statement. I have to give credit where it is due.

They are still going to lose a couple of games. A desperate

football team right now, Atlanta are going to punch the Carolina Panthers

in the mouth. Somebody should have come and punched me in the mouth! A

truly unique quarterback. So you have changed your opinion? No! We

don't want to annoy the Denver fans and we are impartial, but a huge

part of me and Jason are thinking, if Carolina win, it is going to be

fun! I wasn't wrong, they lost to Atlanta, not when I said, but they

did, they didn't go undefeated, they are Super Bowl team but I said they

wouldn't win the Super Bowl, and the game is about to be played. We will

see what happens. Let's talk about the main man, Cam Newton. He came

out to warm up at the Levi's Stadium in a Superman T-shirt. He had goal

cleats on. He has spent the whole season, and so far today has not

been different, looking like he is having fun. He is having a great

time. The team is feeding off him, and if your leader is playing like

that and enjoying the game, the team can do nothing but follow. It's his

movement, isn't it? His ability to flow, fine, but it is his mobility.

-- his ability to throw. Quarterbacks that have the ability

to run, we have not seen a guy with this physicality in the NFL. This is

a dynamic football player. The physicality is the key, Mike. I can

remember three years ago having discussions about R G three, and yet

his body could not deal with their hits. Cam seems to relish it. You

are exactly right, he resembles Randall Cunningham from the old

days, but he is so much bigger, he is built like a linebacker, a

defensive end, he might be as much as 260 lb. He does not avoid

contact. Occasionally he will go down rather than risk getting hurt,

but I like the exuberance that he plays with. A lot of criticism from

the old school media who think it is controversial. It hasn't been. This

week, Noam Chomsky, the radical linguist in his 80s, was asked to

pick the Super Bowl winner. He said, I like the Panthers because I think

Cam Newton stands for everything that is right in the United States.

You talk about his exuberance and how he has been criticised, take a

look at how he arrived in San Francisco for the Super Bowl week.

People are hammering him for the trousers that he wore. If it brings

a smile to people's faces, and when I saw it in the UK, it brought a

smile to my face, what is wrong with it? As a defensive end, the main job

is to get to the quarterback, if I had seen him get off the plane like

that, I would have been ecstatic! I would not be able to wait to get to

this guy! Your first hit, you would mention the trousers to him. I would

be so excited, when I get to you, we are going to see about those pants!

Looking at the shirts for sale for the Panthers in San Francisco,

looking at the different Panthers shirts, Newton dominates, second

is... INAUDIBLE.

What makes him so dynamic is the pass game, most middle linebacker 's

cannot do what Kuechly does. He is as important to the defense as Cam

Newton is to the offense. He is a playmaker. Phenomenal football

player. Normally with a linebacker, they will try and patch it down --

Pat it down. Whereas Kuechly...? Most of the time they are

uncomfortable because they don't do it often, but he can play the ball,

and that is key. The defense is based on him and Thomas Davis

covering the whole field, rushing, going back and going side to side.

His instincts are unbelievable, I saw him at Boston College, he was

going to the ball before the quarterback had handed it off.

Thomas Davis is going to play with a broken arm. You have done something

similar. Yes, three times, and I knew he could play with it because

of how they fix it. They put in the plate, but the issue will be using

his hands in contact with the blockers. It is going to be weak.

You were a cornerback, this guy is up in the line of scrimmage a lot,

he will have to take on the guards with his forearms. It will be

difficult for him. He has a plate in it and then there will be a carbon

fibre cast on it and he will also have painkillers. Yeah! The arm will

be protected. My biggest issue was actually running and being able to

use the armed Tehran because that was quite painful. The first part of

Super Bowl 50, they are going to introduce the crowd to some of the

MVPs of the last 50 Super Bowls. We would like to honour the elite

group of players who have earned one of the most prestigious honours in

Amazing to see them all together. A fair to say that those fans were

not impressed with Tom Brady! Let's look at the Denver Broncos, a

record equalling eighth Super Bowl, this afternoon, at Santa Clara, it

could be Peyton Manning's last ever game in the NFL.

They need it to be a good one. I think he has a lot of strength

committees played a lot of big football games. He's been a leader

throughout his entire career. He's very bright, and at this point, for

us, in the season, through the year, I see more positives, it's been

positive for him, we look forward to him leading the football team once

again. There's no question, when you play in a Super Bowl, that you are

playing for your team-mates, you are playing for an organisation, and you

are playing for your family commit your friends, for your hometown. For

your high school team, your university -- your family and your

friends. Every single TV channel has debated

the future of Peyton Manning over the last week.

If, Jason, people say one of his biggest skills, if not his biggest

scale, is reading the game and the opposition, just on the snap. He

should still be able to do it today? Absolutely. He's brilliant at it. At

the line of scrimmage, at offense, he's always getting the right play,

that is the key to be successful. And yet, age means his arm strength

is not what it was? Absolutely, but mentally, he is an unmatched in the

NFL, mentally committees like a computer on the football field.

Father Time catches up with us all. He's a bit weaker, but he can still

make plays. Since they put him back in the line-up committee had a

terrible season, they took him out and put him in, he's been a game

manager. He's made all of the right throes, he's only thrown one ball in

three games that may have been intercepted, he's done what they

needed to do to let the defense win games. We've had so many arguments.

You think I don't watch the show? He hates the fact that it is a game

manager. The teams are on their way out. Here at the Levi's Stadium.

Beginning with the Panthers. He's been selected to the pro bowl,

he was not going to miss this. Quarterback Josh Norman, he hit his

first, four interceptions this season, second most on the team. The

Carolina Panthers, getting set, you see Steph Curry. Of the Golden State

Warriors. By that big drum, why is he a Carolina Panthers fan? His

father was a basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets come he lives

in that area, he lives in the Bay Area and he keeps to his roots with

the Carolina Panthers. He went to college in the state of North

Carolina as well. Once a Carolina fan, always a Carolina fan! Now, he

is a number one celebrity fan for them. He is going to pound the drum

as the Panthers get set for their introduction here at the Levi's

Stadium, getting set for Super Bowl 50. He is Jim Nantz. -- here is. It

is the Carolina Panthers. The blood, sweat and tears... It's

all worth it. Everything is earned, nothing is given to you. It is the

ultimate prize. This is our time. Just having fun! Can you believe it?

There will be struggles and things that don't go your way. Keep

pounding! The NFC champions are the Carolina Panthers!

And now, let's meet the AFC champions...

The Denver Broncos! It's been the ultimate team of the season. I think

we really embody what 18 years. This is everything we've been working for

since we were young. -- what a team is. A lot of blood, sweat and tears.

One game, one opportunity. Touchdown! We are coming for you. We

want to win as a team and for each other. This is the reason why we are

here. We are going to the Super Bowl! Everyone has to do their part,

that is the only way we have a chance to win.

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos appearing in the Super Bowl

for the second time in the last three years. The AFC champions,

obviously disappointed a couple of years ago, can they win it this

year? Let's take a look at their Road to Super Bowl 50.

STUDIO: Let's go back to game management. Why do you have such a

problem when it is described as a strength of Peyton Manning now? I

think Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback of all time. As a game

manager, like Alex Smith, a quarterback who doesn't push the

ball down the field, which he doesn't any more, but I just don't

like that title for Peyton Manning, because he is my hero and I think of

him as the best quarterback of all time. We talk about the pressure in

the build-up, the pressure on Cam Newton in his first Super Bowl,

would you say the pressure is also on Peyton Manning given his Super

Bowl record? Absolutely, and that is why the game is so big for him, he

hasn't had the best record in the Super Bowl, so he needs to be on his

A game and do what he does well to get the offence in the great

position. He doesn't have to win the game for them. When you have looked

at them pre-match, can you tell who is more relaxed, Newton or Manning?

Carolina are the younger team, so it is surprising that they are moral

axed. They have players who have been to the Super Bowl. -- be on

more relaxed. They are acting like it is just another game for them.

Von Miller was actually drafted by Denver second in the same draft that

Carolina picked Cam Newton first. Von Miller had an exceptional time

pass rushing against the New England Patriots. It would be so easy

against the Panthers. What he can do is chase down Cam Newton from the

edge. If Newton breaks the pocket, Miller has the speed to chase him

down from behind, and not many pass rushers can do that. Definitely the

best pass rusher on the field. He will be instrumental in disrupting

the Carolina Panthers offence. They have had two weeks at Denver under

Wade Phillips to get it right for Carolina. I want to see what they do

for the zone read to stop Cam Newton. The guys have rehearsed it,

I'm ready to see it. Most teams when they play Carolina, they play zone,

so the defensive backs can see Cam Newton. Denver plays will most

always man-to-man. If Wade stays with man-to-man, he can use somebody

else to stay on Cam Newton, one of the linebackers inside may be, and

not worry about it. He only rushed three or four against New England,

he might be able to get away with the same against Carolina. Instead

of running for the running back, directly at Cam Newton, hit him a

couple of times and let him know, this is the Super Bowl, take away

the zone read. That is what I have to do. They can't do what they did

against New England and Brady, against Cam Newton on the Panthers?

No, Cam Newton will expose it all day. They have to be disciplined in

the defensive assignments, they just can't let him loose. Every time

Peyton Manning has been in the Super Bowl, the best ranked defense he had

was 18th, he has now come in with the number one ranked defense. A

couple of years ago, the Ravens have the number one defense against

Denver, overwhelmingly the number one offensive team. I'm not sure

Carolina is the number-1 offence because the defense helps them out

so much field position. But in Super Bowl XXIV, Denver had the top

defense in the league are co-ordinated by Wade Phillips, Gary

Kubiak, with John Elway, playing against the 49ers with the number

one offence, and the 49ers killed them. Offence wins games, defense

wins championships. 40 out of 49 Super Bowls have been won by the

team with the better defensive record. Two members of the defence

years, this has been the best NFL coach. He doesn't have the most

talented football team but he makes the most out of his players. A great

guy. Even in that answer, you had a little dig at him! I'm just saying!

Look at the roster from top to bottom, they are not quite as

talented as everybody but they keep on winning. NFC South, they win. The

divisional championship. What he has done with the football team, and you

have to give credit to Dave Gettleman also, he has been

outstanding. Dave came from the Giants. They left things intact when

they came in. A lot of times they will brush the team away, but they

left the team intact and they let Ron Rivera coach what they had

already. We will have plenty of time to talk about Denver and Gary Kubiak

in a while. Loads of time to chat over the evening. Looking down

below, the Broncos and the Panthers, and their team leaders, they are out

there getting ready for the coin toss by referee Clete Blakeman. We

hope he has more success with this coin than he did in the divisional

game between Arizona and Green Bay, he went to cross the coin for

overtime and it went straight up in the air and landed, it did not slip.

Are you nervous at this stage as a player? A little bit. As soon as

they snapped the ball and you make contact, everything goes at the

window and it turns into a regular game. Jason, you are ready to go

now, you just want this over. All the Super Bowl hoopla, all of that

stuff is out of the window, let's play football and you are ready and

prepared. I always like what Mike Tyson said, do you think your

opponent has a plan? He said, everyone has a plan until you punch

Denver Broncos, trying to win. Super Bowl 50. We take a look at

some of the key players. Let's have a quick word as we get

ready for kick-off on Gary Kubiak. And the job that he's done? The

interesting thing, when you thought he was hired, it was going to be a

bad fit with Peyton Manning, he runs an offense that is contrary to

everything at Peyton Manning has done. He was a through his career.

In the last few weeks, it seems that they've meshed it well. Leading

Peyton Manning in a shotgun where he prefers to be, where he can see more

things happening. You get more stretch running and blocking, which

I hate. It is the trademark of his organisation. It is a borderline

legal technique. Here we go, we are ready for Super Bowl 50. The count

board has gone down to zero. Let's get ready for Super Bowl 50,

Carolina won the coin toss. You can start the game or in the

wearing their home teams, they chose to wear white because of the results

at Super Bowl where they wore orange in the past. Last time, it was a

blue jersey when John Elway made his exit in the Super Bowl. They decided

to go with white, last time they wore orange, it was 43-8 in the game

And, Super Bowl 50 is underway. Coldwell takes it on the run. Shaq

Thompson on the tackle. Peyton Manning in his 18th year at the

league. He's dealt with a foot injury, net issues, but here he is,

in his fourth Super Bowl. -- neck. Tackled by Coleman and Harper. A

game of 18 on 1st down. You can see Peyton Manning is sadly, an

excellent block by the running back. They wanted to put pressure on

Peyton Manning right away. Playing on, that's exactly what he did,

getting help from the blockers. 35th postseason catch, first and

10th for Denver. Peyton Manning gets it off,

completing it. Two Emmanuel Sanders. 44 after a gain of six.

It certainly appears that the head coach, Gary Kubiak, and Peyton

Manning, the quarterback of Denver, anticipated correctly that Carolina

would come out with extra pass pressures early. They planned for it

and got the calling in sequence to address it.

Marius Thomas split at the bottom of the screen.

Peyton Manning throwing for the third time. A pass for Daniels is

incomplete. He got pressure. From Kuechly. That blue things up early

on that one. Carolina were quicker to the football then Denver. --

blew. They had to get rid of it before Daniels could turn around.

Denver coming out, wanting to throw the football, a strategy I expected

coming in, they are following it so far.

Sanders is the motion man. Manning making the completion in

Carolina territory to Coldwell, at the 34-yard line.

If this play holds up, it looked like a massive miscommunication for

the Carolina Panthers. REFEREE: Holding defense, number 24. Josh

Norman, calling for the hold, it will be declined. A gain of 20 to

four Carolina. Working right there against Coldwell, number 12, he

thought he had help over the top, he got their way to late. And Manning

found him. All throws by Manning on the opening drive. The Carolina 34.

First run of the game for Anderson, inside the 30.

Tackled at the 27-yard line. A gain of seven. The Carolina Panthers

allowed only one opening Drive touchdown all season. The game they

lost against Atlanta, that was their only loss this year.

Is there an omen in that? Right now, the Carolina people had to be

nervous in how Denver are moving the football down the field.

Anderson 1st down inside of the 20. Tackled at the 15-yard line by

Norman. How about the left side of the

offensive line opening up a gain of 13? Down the left side, number 68

Harris, and number 69, Mathis, back-to-back plays. Then you go to

the left side of the line, Carolina asked out against the run, Denver

have found weaknesses early and are exploiting it. First and ten for the

Carolina 14-yard line. Thompson, Charles Johnson, adding

pressure on Hillman. A loss of two. The first good play

overall for Carolina in terms of setting Denver back on their heels,

there's been an incompletion but on that play, they won the 1st down,

for the first time, defensively they have the advantage. Blitzing early.

Let's see if they can put pressure on this part of the field...

That was close. It was really close. The quarterback had a great break on

the football. That is a long throw for Peyton Manning from the center

of the field to the outside. If he is there one step earlier, he is

running down the sideline for the initial score of the game. An

excellent break by the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.

Not much for CJ Anderson, Thomas Davis, out of bounds.

A gain of a single, that's it. After bending, Carolina do not break. They

will try a field goal attempt. I don't think Carolina could be any

happier right now, in how Denver moved the ball downfield. Forcing

him into a field goal attempt, and Thomas Davis is starting with a

broken right forearm, playing all the way through with no apparent

distress to that injury. A good sign for the Panthers.

That was perfect, right down the middle. Mission accomplished for

Denver on the opening drive. Moving the football down the field.

They have an early lead here at Super Bowl 50.

I ought to tell you that Charles Davis and Bob Papa, they are your

commentators for Super Bowl 50. Wow. Absolutely, Denver moved the

ball down the field effectively, Peyton Manning looked like he had a

strong arm, they looked good but Carolina had to feel good. They

played well. In the defense now committee would take it as a

positive? That you did not concede the touchdown? Just a field goal,

despite how smoothly they passed down the ball? You are glad you got

out of there without a touchdown, you have two calm down, those guys

seemed tense. I can understand, to be honest! I felt tents beforehand

and I'm not playing. I understand, we all feel it, there is an

atmosphere that they -- but they need to calm down. They

came out, and they started blitzing Denver, Peyton Manning breeds the

blitz well. He could see it coming. -- reads it well. Owen Daniels has

to be covered by someone who is not as good as Kuechly covering him.

That is where the ball went. Carolina will calm down on the

coaching side. We will see if they will calm down on the offensive side

as well, Carolina have the ball. The first chance at Super Bowl 50 to see

what Cam Newton does with the ball in his hand.

Brandon McManus with the 34 yard field goal. Peyton Manning 47 yards,

Cam Newton is awaiting his turn to get the offense off on the field. A

good drive for Peyton Manning. Predominantly through the football.

It reminded me of the AFC Championship Game opening drive

against New England, but there's a big difference, against New England,

they scored a touchdown, setting the pace, getting ahead and playing from

the front, they wanted to do that today. At the end on this one,

Carolina forced them into a field goal.

Not making it to the 20-yard line. But the 19. Shaquil Barrett on the

tackle. Cam Newton bringing the Carolina offense onto the field for

the first time. In a minute, we will see what Cam

Newton does with the ball. I'm well aware that this time, when the Super

Bowl is on, a lot of NFL rookies are watching, and diehards. Simon Clark,

watching for the first time, this is possibly a stupid question, who is

the head coach talking to on the radio? There's no such thing as a

stupid question, he's talking to his offensive quarter and everyone come

he can listen to everything, what the quarterback has been discussing

with the offensive coordinator. He's talking to everyone. The offensive

and defensive coordinators will be where? They are in the booth,

sometimes on the field, it depends what they like to do, a lot of times

they are in the booths so they can see the whole game. Did you prefer

the defensive coordinator to be up on high and get a better view of the

game? I did, he can see and manage it. Sometimes down there they are

caught up in the game and cannot see specific things going on. You can

see as much as on here. You see everything going on out there. You

can see what one player is doing, what another is not doing. It is

better for the de-fence. They have a guy in the booth whether it is the

coordinator, he says things like, I see them, they are over there, they

are just over down from us! He keeps smiling every time the play goes

well for Denver. Let's go back to the ball game. Let's rejoin Bob and

Charles, this time Cam Newton has the ball.

Super Bowl 50, Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara California. The Denver Broncos

leading 3-0. Wade Phillips, the defensive co-ordinator for the

Broncos, has done an outstanding job this year. What kind of defense will

he cooked up for Cam Newton and the Panthers offence, which led the

National Football League in scoring, 31 points per game, led by the

multifaceted quarterback Cam Newton. They have an extra offensive line

managing, which would say run. Maybe they are trying to sell them an and

let Cam Newton have a play action to get things going.

Newton goes to a shotgun set. He has Jonathan Stewart, a talented running

back, to his right. Danny Trevathan got pressure. TJ

Ward was involved in the play. Stewart. Both of them hurt against

New England, they want to test them early.

A lot of the Denver fans are in the end zone to the right. So you wonder

if the noise is a bit of a factor for Newton. Newton misfires. He had

a wide open receiver, Brown. Missed him. Early in a ball game like this,

adrenaline is going to be spiked. He threw a pretty good fast ball, it

almost appeared as if the receiver was worried about running out of

bounds, so he slowed up and didn't time it. In the regular season,

Carolina hit third-downs at 42%, in the postseason so far, 55%. Most of

the time, it wasn't 3rd 7. Most of them were the 3rd 3 rioting. --

variety. Newton completes, but short of the

1st down is Olsen. Half a yard short. Excellent tackle by Aqib

Talib, the cornerback. Cam Newton went to his number one target, Greg

Olsen, the tight end, but no yards after the catch. Because of that,

they are going to have to put the ball away. Advantage to the Denver

defence on the first possession. Talib didn't let Olsen move an inch,

and Carolina will have to punt the ball after their first possession.

They have asked for a measure. If we know anything about Carolina, they

are not afraid to go for it if they think they can pick it up on a short

yardage play. I think they will kick it away after seeing that distance.

I would be surprised to see them go for it. Trevathan, and then Talib

with the wonderful job tackling Olsen to make sure he didn't get the

necessary yard. Nortman on the punt. Sanders is

back. There is some swirling wind in Levi's Stadium.

A good high kick. A fair catch signal by Sanders at the 23-yard

line. A 48 yard punt, no return. The Broncos lead 3-0, scored on their

first possession of the day. STUDIO: I am delighted to say we

couple of chats. Your first Super Bowl? Yes. Good timing! Very good.

When you walked in, did it take your breath away? Absolutely incredible.

The stadium is fantastic. A great experience for myself to come here.

When myself and Roy Keane decided that if we could qualify for the

Euros, we would treat ourselves to the Super Bowl, because it was

number 50, San Francisco, my first time ever. Rory is here as well? --

Roy is here as well? I know Robbie Keane. He is doing preseason work,

the lazy salt! -- sod! Do you have a favourite? Because I have been a

Peyton Manning fan for a long time, everybody outside Carolina might be

supporting him today, although I fancy Carolina to win... I am

surprised that they have come out throwing. What a great start, to get

some points on the board. A couple of completions. I am talking as if I

know what I'm talking about! You do! You are well schooled! Somebody told

me before I came in! Back to the game.

Peyton Manning, driving his team down the field on the opening drive,

very efficient, four of six, 40 seven yards. The first time Carolina

has trailed Indian tyre postseason. -- has trailed in the entire

postseason. They did a good job using the aggressiveness of the

Carolina defense against them. Denver picked it up and put it on

them early. Manning opened up with four consecutive passes. Let's see

what the second series brings. Sanders on the slip screen. Bumped

down at the 32. Thomas Davis with the tackle after a gain of seven.

Denver loves to use the wide receivers for short passes and allow

them to get the yards after the catch to advantage the football.

Their extra receivers are counted on as blockers. Cody Latimer did

exactly that in the last play to allow Sanders to get up the field.

Stopped after a gain of a yard. Kuechly got the first hit on him, a

gain of two. It's going to be an interesting call for Denver. Third

and short. Ordinarily you would think of that as a running play, but

the way they run the football, although they have done well at

early, I would be surprised if they don't throw it to try to pick up the

1st down. They need a yard and a half.

Short of the 1st down, it appears. Robert McClain and Thomas Davis

shutdown CJ Anderson. A big-time tackle for Denver by Aqib Talib not

letting Greg Olsen picked up a 1st down. As you describe, two guys

collaborated, McClain and Davis, and this time Denver can't convert on

third and short. Colquitt to punt, the dangerous Ginn back for

Carolina. He can't outrun the coverage. What a

job by Webster of the Broncos, making the tackle. A loss of one

after a 50 yard punt. Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos with a 3-0

lead in the first quarter of Super Bowl 50.

kind of exuberance? He is a fantastic player, he is some

specimen. He has taken the quarterback role to a new level.

Absolutely. He obviously has a very big ego... But he looks like he is

having fun, which is really important in sport. Maybe we don't

see it often enough. You are probably right. He has had a super

season, really fantastic, and he is letting everyone know about it. From

a coaching and management perspective, have you ever spoken to

NFL coaches, and you'll earn from them? I am sure you can, absolutely.

When you had Randy Lerner running at macro villa, did he? I've travelled

with him. -- running Villa. You will have to wait to ask another

question, Mike. Back to the game. COMMENTATOR: Second offensive

possession for the Carolina Panthers coming up, they went three and out

on the opening drive. Cam Newton trying to loosen up a bit. He had

one errant throw, one to Olsen that was completed, just short of a 1st

down. Ron Rivera won the Super Bowl with the 1985 Chicago Bears, now

coaching the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Both head coaches

have participated in Super Bowls as players.

Cotchery couldn't handle the fast ball from Newton. He ended up

bobbling it, and the hit at the end finished the play. He is trying to

get it again and Stewart with the tackle... He doesn't have enough

possession, I don't think. I don't think that should be a catch. I

think Ron Rivera is going to throw the challenge flag. Interesting.

When the coach throws the red flag, it means he can challenge the play.

Each coach has two challenges during the course of the game. If they are

successful on the first two, they would get an opportunity for a

third. If you lose a challenge, you are charged a time-out. Carolina is

challenging the ruling on the field of an incomplete pass. Ron Rivera

has challenged 14 times, he has been successful with nine of them so far

this year. A challenge flag in the first quarter of Super Bowl 50.

STUDIO: Take us through what Ron Rivera is challenging, Osi. The ball

moved a bit. The receiver ran to the sideline and he was very confident

that he caught the football. So the coaches have faith in him, trusting

him that he caught the football, but it looked like it moved a little

bit. He got his hand under it. That's a catch, that should be a

catch. It is something that has plagued Carolina throughout the

season. Yeah, they are not top-class receivers by any means, but I think

when he rolls at the very end, he may lose the ball. They make a big

deal about holding it through the whole process. The whole motion. As

he comes over, it may have hit the ground. They may rule that it wasn't

a catch. The ruling on the field was an incomplete pass and they don't

reverse the call and less there is conclusive evidence that it was a

complete pass. That is inconclusive. Can you have a player on a soccer

team who takes the Cam Newton role as a leader? Where his tone set the

tone for the team? Absolutely, the fella who was too shy to come in

here, Roy Keane, was a great example. Absolutely. If you have a

character like that in the team, fantastic. If you have two or three,

you are in business. Thank you for joining us, we wish you well in

France. Thank you. STUDIO: Cotchery was wide open. Cam

Newton put the ball right on him. Should have caught it clean.

The safety is for Denver, Stewart, number 26, TJ Ward, number 43, they

are known as big-time hitters, so they are aware. That might have

played into him double catching the ball. We will see if he picked up

the 1st down. 12th year, out of North Carolina State. He has

possession of the ball. You have to have clear possession all the way to

the ground. The hand is underneath the ball. Does not make contact with

the ground. Does it touch the ground? He secures it against his

body and it's not moving. It doesn't touch the ground there so it should

be a catch for Cotchery. Clete Blakeman. After review, the ruling

on the field stands. It is an incomplete pass. Carolina will be

charged with its first time-out. I think they want to stay with the

call on the field because there was too much going on. Unless it is

absolutely conclusive, they didn't want to overturn the call. Ron

Rivera took a shot early, because that would have changed field

position in a big way for the Carolina offence. They couldn't tell

from that spot that the ball touched the ground on the second time when

he rolled over. He kept it off the ground. That should have been a

catch, quite honestly. They ended up missing that one for Carolina. Now

2nd 10. That is the loss of a time-out.

Stewart has nowhere to go, pulled down at the ankles by Derek Wolfe.

The way that Stewart got over, that had to hurt the running back. Caught

in the pile. He missed games down the stretch, he had an injured

ankle. Stewart, hobbling off. Colbert is in on this 3rd long

situation. Under pressure, fumbling the

football, and recovered for a touchdown from Denver! I think it

was a Von Miller who stripped them, Jackson gets the touchdown.

The rush came from the frontside, you would think Cam Newton would be

able to see it but he did not get it, holding the ball too long. Right

in your face, number 58, Miller, beat the 74. Not content with just

hitting the quarterback, he strips the ball clean. It looks like

Jackson comes up with it in the end zone for the Denver Broncos. What a

play by Miller! What a postseason by Von Miller. He's been an absolute

force, I don't know if that is doing him justice, he's not been watched

very often in these playoffs. McManus for the extra point...

From 33 yards. Down the middle and the challenge that appeared to have

been a catch for Cotchery, rolled incomplete, setting up the second

and 3rd long, leading to the Von Miller sack and a fumble of the

defects of touchdown. What is the strength of the Denver defense? --

sense of touchdown. When you set up 3rd long, it allows those guys to

turn loose. That is exactly what happened. As you pointed out, it was

not a catch, or was ruled not a catch, that hurt them. Second and

long, but to start off, they hardly get anything. 3rd long, here comes

the pass rush, getting to Cam Newton and getting the points. When Denver

were in the Super Bowl II years ago they were manhandled by Seattle. In

horse racing terms, they fly out the gate, they set the pace early,

leading from the front as they did against New England in the

championship game, the exact formula they want to follow, putting

pressure on Carolina. Let's see if they can handle it.

Joe Webb to the 22-yard line. That is where Carolina will start their

third offensive possession. A 24 yard return. Cam Newton would

fumble, recovered by Jackson for a tight down.

Denver at a 10-0 lead. No time to panic. It's early in the

game. The only time this year that Carolina were down, that was against

Seattle, down 14. They've been frontrunners the entire season.

As Carolina, you don't make about entirely changing your offense but

you have to gain yardage on first and 2nd down to stay out of a 3rd

long yardage situation. Fozzy Whittaker is the tailback.

Shoved out of bounds by TJ Ward after a gain of 16.

You see what two weeks off of games does to you? That is a counter to

what they normally do. Cam Newton fakes it, keeping the ball to

himself all year long, now they add an option play with Fozzy Whittaker.

The ball is loose, a scramble for it. No signal from the officials.

Now, we see that it is the Carolina ball.

A sloppy start for Carolina. You see the effects of the injury,

watching him limp off in the last season, now, Fozzy Whittaker is

beginning to get extra playing time. The running back.

2nd down date... For the Panthers. -- 2nd 8.

Newton... Wide open, overshot him. I think he felt the pressure, he was

in the pocket, he had him there. TJ Ward was down there, going to 21,

instead of putting touch on it, you felt the pressure and tried to rifle

it into the gap. He was not able to get it done. You put a touch on the

pass, his receiver might still be running.

Two balls that Newton has overthrown. Stewart remains on the

Carolina bench after hurting his angle on the previous series.

-- ankle. When Denver is allowed to load up

and bring people, it they get after them pretty well. The running back

tries to step up and make a play, it was Ed Dickson, number 84, DeMarcus

Ware brand through him, as you noted, that pressure forced it him

into Stewart, he ended up getting finished by the number 95. That

pressure got to him in a big way. There was a flag downfield. It could

be defensive holding, they don't look happy with what they've heard

from the officials. Defense, number 21, a 15-yard penalty, 1st down

Carolina. Aqib Talib, a taunting penalty. Instead of Carolina having

a punt at the football, Aqib Talib's penalty gives Carolina a 1st down.

That is where the coaches talk all the time. Two weeks off about

holding your poise, staying with the game. Not worrying about getting

into the other team. Aqib Talib, his team had a good play, getting the

football back-up ten, and instead he decides to throw extra verbal stuff

there, he gets flags. Karoly Sir Stan ten from the 45. Fozzy

Whittaker bounces ahead for two -- first and ten.

Jackson on the tackle for Denver. With that injury to Stewart, the

running back for Carolina, if it is significant and we don't see him

back since he went off, it hurts their ability to be explosive in the

run game. Tolbert is a battering Ram, strong runner, not someone who

breaks big plays, that changes the focus on what they do.

Corey Brown takes it across midfield for the Denver 49, gaining four.

Third and fourth for Carolina, a couple of huge plays in this game

already, a replay that did not go the way of Carolina, a challenge on

the contrary. Aqib Talib with a possible penalty

that has kept the possession of life for Cam Newton and the Panthers,

trying to stabilise things here at the first.

Cotchery cannot handle it. Bradley Roby on the coverage. That is

exactly what he could not handle it, the cover by Bradley Roby, the

nickelback, number 29 sitting on the short route, driving underneath and

taking a chance, instead of going up field to make play. He goes

underneath and gets enough on the football to make a difficult catch,

pulling him away when he tries to second catch it. Nice play by

Bradley Roby. Norwood called for a fair catch at

the 13-yard line. Peyton Manning is back to work. A defensive touchdown.

10-0 here at the first. Take us through the Broncos

touchdown, and what Von Miller did to Cam Newton.

This is outstanding football player, you see him come off the edge, not

only does he get the sack but knocks the ball out of the hands of the

quarterback, covered by Jackson for a touchdown, incredible. He dips

around the edge, knocking the ball from the quarterback's hands. This

is a problem for the Panthers, putting them in those situations,

they are not going to be able to contain Von Miller and DeMarcus

Ware, we've seen results of that situation here. Miller strips the

football, incredible play. Will that be their weakness, if they get a

bird and long in particular, they will be one rubble to the pass rush?

Yes, the defensive backs, they get their hands on receivers, disrupting

them, giving pass rush is time. A recipe for success. We saw it went

markers where nearly got him before Stewart before the penalty was

called? What was happening there, they had guys waiting, if there is

pressure, they send in more guys. It is a rush. We are waiting to see

what happens and they are coming in, it will make you to's life

unbearable. -- it will make Cam Newton's life unbearable. He is

pressure rushing them, they bring it to the line of scrimmage. These guys

are coming into the rush, it makes it hard for them to get DeMarcus

Ware and Von Miller. The Denver Broncos with a lead over the

Panthers, 10-0. Charles Davis has joined us. The Panthers have not got

any points on the board. Newton fumbled the ball away which led to a

touchdown. For Denver. Terry Bradshaw. And

Asher taking in Super Bowl 50 from Levi's Stadium. Could there be a new

duet coming out soon? -- Usher. Peyton Manning of the Broncos, going

back towards Anderson. He is the tailback.

Peyton Manning to Sanders, falling ahead to the 19-yard line, a gain of

seven. Norman on the coverage. So many

things have happened in the non-reversal of the call earlier for

Carolina, they thought they had a 24 yard gain on the challenge. One

thing that's happened is that Carolina have good field position in

terms of defense, can they keep Denver in their own territory and

gain better field positions for the offense? 2nd 3... Daniels comes

in, right of the formation. Anderson, no room of the right side.

Back to the line of scrimmage. Can Carolina get a three and out

here? Trying to get some momentum. Those

big guys inside came on short 99. Number 98, they make it hard to run

the ball will stop last time, Denver tried to throw the ball, let's see

if they do it again. Manning is under pressure. Sacked by Kuechly at

ten, a loss of ten, the Broncos go on.

Watch, coming straight at you, number 59 in black, timing it

perfectly. They got both tackles to occupy the guards in the center, the

gap opened, Kuechly got it to Peyton Manning before they could do

anything with the football. The second straight three and out

registered by the Carolina defense. A flag on the play, Ginn gets

tackled. A 50 yard punt, a one yard return, but we will check the flag.

Referee cleat Wakeman. During the return, illegal block in the back. A

10-yard penalty from the spot of the foul. 1st down, Carolina. Teddy

Williams, the back-up cornerback, called for the penalty. That will

negate the good field position for Carolina to start this possession.

This is where things have to start to pick up for Carolina on offence.

They have to start getting more than one or two yards on 1st down to try

to blunt some of the defensive pressure Denver is throwing at them.

Jonathan Stewart is back in at tailback. Starting from the Carolina

27. Stewart got tripped, no gain on the play. Jackson got a hit on him.

Jonathan Stewart, his eighth year, out of Oregon. It seemed like Cam

Newton wanted to pull the ball back and they almost ended up with a

fumble. It popped three for a second. -- it popped free for a

second. Newton has the 1st down to Corey

Brown at the 47-yard line, a gain of 20. Brown, plenty of space with Aqib

Talib, he got Talib believing he would run a deep root. A big 1st

down for the Panthers. -- a deep root.

Not a lot there. Jonathan Stewart actually loses a yard. Brandon

Marshall on the coverage. One of the things Denver has, linebackers that

can run, and we saw the speed of Trevathan there. The Denver defense,

led by Von Miller, has been the story in the first quarter of Super

Bowl 50. A sack and forced fumble has led to the game's only

touchdown. The Broncos in front, 10-0.

STUDIO: The first 15 minutes has belonged to Denver. An early field

goal and then the Denver defence came up with the big play thanks to

Von Miller, giving them the only touchdown. They are 10-0 up at the

Levi's Stadium in San Francisco. We were just watching the last couple

of Carolina offensive plays, Jason and Osi were saying that Cam Newton,

who we spoke about at the start as an incredibly mobile quarterback,

has to run a couple of plays himself. Their whole system is

predicated on the threat of him running the football but he is just

giving the ball to the running back and the defensive ends and the

outside linebackers are taking away the play. He will have to pull it

and run a bit to at least show the threat and loosen things up for the

offence. As a fellow member of the defence, do you think the Denver

defence are quite comfortable with how Carolina are playing? Oh, yeah.

They are doing what they do well, running the defence and shutting

them down, being aggressive in their approach, and it's working. Cam

Newton is not a factor, only one significant completion. They are

playing their game. Do they look nervous? Absolutely. They don't look

relaxed at all. Cam wanted to run the ball. The receivers have to make

plays and catch the ball. Back to Bob and Charles.

COMMENTATOR: Eli Manning, two-time Super Bowl MVP. 42 and 46. With the

New York Giants. Watching his brother Peyton in his fourth Super

Bowl. The other brother hardly ever gets mentioned because he had to

quit football early due to an injury. Sitting down in front of

him. There is Archie Manning, and his wife Olivia. A long-time

playing in a combined six Super Bowls. If Archie Manning had played

on team is similar to what Eli and Peyton had played on, we would be

talking about him as one of the all-time great quarterbacks. He

Offence and Dickson, the two tight end set. Fozzy Whittaker checks in

consecutive Pro Bowls for Carolina. Newton had time. He will take it to

the sideline. Knocked out of bounds by Von Miller. A bit of pushing and

shoving on the sidelines. Someone jumped in, it looked like Ealy,

number 94, jumping in to help the quarterback. When Cam Newton feels

pressure and he wants to escape, I don't know that he's going to hang

in the pocket quite as long now. He is going to take advantage of some

openings, use his legs to loosen things up against Denver, hurt them

a little bit and pick up yardage, as opposed to staying in the pocket and

taking some big hits and maybe some sacks. 23 yards rushing on his last

two attempts, Newton. Stewart is short of the 1st down by a yard.

Again Trevathan got the hit on him. Danny Trevathan in his fourth year

out of Kentucky. You know what we haven't seen so far? Designed

quarterback runs for Cam Newton. The two we have had have been off pass

plays where he hasn't found a receiver.

Newton has Olsen for the 1st down. Out of bounds at the 15-yard line.

Trevathan on the chase. Olsen with a gain of 19. How about Mike Shula,

who calls the plays? Third and short, they showed run to the right,

but watch Olsen, cutting back underneath against all the traffic.

They used the flow of Denver going to that side and they go back

against them, Newton finds him for a really nice play. The Panthers led

the NFL in touchdown percentage in the red zone this year. That is the

distance inside the 20-yard line. Newton had Brown, wrestled out of

bounds. A flag comes in. Talib is going to get called for a facemask,

which doesn't really matter because it's half the distance. A gain of

13. The last two pass plays, they have come back against it twice.

Personal foul, grabbing the facemask, defence, number 21, half

the distance to the goal. Everyone is looking to the right and they cut

back on a crossing route to Corey Brown and Tillman gets every bit of

his facemask. -- and Talib gets every bit of his facemask. He didn't

even try to let go. Second personal foul on Talib in the first half.

Stewart goes a born for the touchdown! How a line is on the

board in Super Bowl 50. -- goes airborne. Carolina is on the board

in Super Bowl 50. Jonathan Stewart with a 1-yard run

capping a 73 yard drive, nine plays. Right over the top, vaults into the

end zone, his ankle appears to be OK. Look at Trai Turner, number 70.

squeezes it inside the upright. There is a flag on the play. I think

Denver was in the neutral zone. One of their rushers on the extra point,

I think, came across the line. Carolina stabilises with a 73 yard

drive, Newton used his legs, two Rushes for 23. Offside, defense,

number 21. 5-yard penalty on the kick-off. Aqib Talib, a little

quick. The Broncos' lead is trimmed to three. Jonathan Stewart flies

through the air for a Panthers touchdown.

STUDIO: Cam Newton has got his legs. He has to move it. He has to be the

MVP, he has to be the threat. I like what Mike Shula is doing, getting

him out of the pocket with those moves to get out of harm's way and

he can throw the ball across the field. Didn't look a great deal

wrong with the Jonathan Stewart's ankle the way he launched himself

seven feet into the air, than. Taking off like Superman. A great

drive by the Carolina Panthers. They needed that to settle down. He got

high, but not in the Ricky Williams we! The thing I loved on that drive

is how they were setting up the Denver defence. A power formation to

our left, to their right, and then they dragged Olsen across the field.

He connected with Olsen, which you were starting to worry about in the

sense that, as a tight end, he was being used more to block the Denver

defence than and attacking weapon, and he has been their best weapon.

They have to get him out into the pass routes. If they have to use him

to block, you are losing your best receiver. As a member of the

defense, would you have a word with Talib and say, just calm down? He is

costing his team, number one with the stupid penalty and number two

with the place is making. This is their best D B and he is making

stupid mistakes. COMMENTATOR: Two personal foul

penalties, and jumping offside at the extra point. Cam Newton on the

last drive, four for four. And two runs for 23. His runs open things up

offensively. You got the sense at the start that he wanted to hang in

the pocket and make throws. After the sacks, the fumble on the

touchdown, it's almost like he said, OK, enough of that, I will use my

legs to great advantage and hurt the defense that way. That helped open

up the offence for Carolina. The Carolina defence has also stabilised

things. That will be a touchback, mean the ball is placed at the

20-yard line. The Carolina defence has forced back three and outs from

the Denver offence, which has helped. The last game Denver played,

they had a very fast start on offence and made New England chase

them the entire game. The last two possessions, they have slowed them

down a bit quicker. Let's see if Denver can find rhythm on the

offensive side. CJ Anderson, the running back, will start this

offensive series. Manning throwing and stumbling down.

Shovelling the football forward. If the ball is shovelled forward, that

is a pass whether it is over or underhand. I did not see anyone

making a signal, the officials, that it was incomplete. Manning was not

touched by a defender committee slipped down, shovelling the ball

forward. Now, right there... He was touched committee should have been

down at that spot. -- he was touched, he can challenge that. Ron

Rivera lost a challenge at a time out, as you can see, Peyton Manning

was touched which would mean it would be a sack. Ealy hit him with

his right hand. He is going to be down there, when we look at the

review. He thought he was going to win the last one, so did a lot of

people in the press box. I agree, I think this will be easier for them

to say. That is a sack. REFEREE: Carolina is challenging the ruler of

the field. Here is the question that you would have, the last challenge,

was it worth it for him to use it in that spot? He likes to use them...

He is using them in the first half. That is the question. Let's look at

that again, what Bob and Charles were talking about, in commentary,

it seemed to be a easy challenge for Ron Rivera to win.

I thought so, when he went down. Watch right here, he stands up. All

you have to do is touch him when he's down on the ground. Since it

was an incomplete pass, you have a second in ten anyway. I would rather

have a second in long. I think they will win this one. That is a clear

sack on the quarterback, that is a big momentum. Instead of 2nd 10,

they will have 2nd 18, something like that. It is a big play for

them. Full house? We all agree? He touched the towel, I agree. A lot of

people have been getting in touch, if you want to get in touch, just

hashtag BBC Super Bowl. The Aqib Talib penalty, what do you need to

do to break the tall team rule? What you need to have said, try and keep

it clean? There are many things you can and can't say, referees let

certain things slide, if you hear something over the line, they will

throw the flag, and keep -- Aqib Talib did that. You two

never said anything to offensive players? No! We are a decent human

being. Ron Rivera, is it worth Charles using or jeopardising your

last challenge for a play that might only met you five or six yards in a

sack? I would have held it there, they were giving 2nd 10, the

defense is playing well in the last two possessions, they had three and

out, they are getting a good idea of what they are doing against Denver.

That could have netted me a bit more, Ron Rivera wanted the sack,

putting them in an adverse situation on 2nd down. I think they will get

it. REFEREE: After review of the play, the quarterback was touched

and went down by contact at the 13-yard line. 2nd down from that

point. Carolina will not be in charge of time out but they are out

of challenges. It is worth noting, as the game goes on, we get to a

situation where they want to challenge and they did not have it,

we have to remember this time in play. And say this is why they did

not get it. 2nd 17 for Ron Rivera. His defense against the Denver

fence. You cannot blame him for the first challenge -- offense. He

should have won it. But in this situation, I would have held it.

Now, the defense had to make this stand-up. Ealy gets credit for the

sack of Manning. Going up top, nearly intercepted by

Norman. Pass play is intended for Jordan Norwood. That is two in this

game, the Panther defenders have had a chance to pick. Watch Norman,

number 24, at the bottom of the screen committee reads the route and

has coverage on the outside receiver, he sees the ball in the

air and makes a play on the football.

That is what Carolina want, Peyton Manning to put the ball in the air,

20 yards down the field, they can get anything he throws at that

distance. 3rd 17.

Intended for Thomas. That is why he is the best middle linebacker of the

NFL. No doubt about it, there is not a thing that he cannot do on the

football field, even at this stage in his career, I think it stands

people, the suddenness in which he shows up, his quickness, and

aggression, what a great read, knowing where the ball was going and

arriving therefore contact with the receiver. Is spiralling kick to the

sideline. Out of bounds, beautiful. There is a flag at the 15-yard line.

Check that. The other thing that Kuechly did so well with the league

and player safety becoming a premium committee kept his head up, he did

not lead with his head, when he delivered that thundering hit, so

that there would be no penalty. There is a lot of chest and

shoulder, a textbook tackle for how he plays football nowadays. REFEREE:

Kicking team number 51, a 5-yard penalty. 1st down. Todd Davis, a

special teams player, calling for the penalty. Ron Rivera... He wants

them to punt it again. What he's hoping for is a big play

from Ginn on the ropes turn. Peyton Manning, with the Indianapolis

Colts, they led the New Orleans Saints 10-0 after the first quarter.

They went to Tracy Porter, sealing the deal on this exact date. Back in

2010, they wound up losing the game 30 1-17. The Broncos lead in this

game 10-0 after the first. You heard Ron Rivera, they did not want the

five yards tax down at the end of the penalty, they want to Denver to

kick the ball again because Ginn is a legitimate weapon to take one back

at the touchdown at moment when he gets the football.

The Panthers are hoping to make history here...

Out of bounds, right near midfield. The penalty winds up picking up

about ten yards after a 43 yard punt. That is absolutely perfect, at

1st down, ten yards are gained. That's what special teams coaches

say every time, gain a 1st down on the return, they got it without

having to touch the ball. Best starting field position for

Carolina so far. He can only watch as Cam Newton and

the Panthers offense get back on the field.

Newton goes to Stewart. Going across midfield. A gain of two, before the

deviants get the football. Jackson gets a hit -- defense.

Trevathan also in on the tackle. Stewart has the Panthers lone

touchdown today. Mike Tolbert comes in. At running back on the second

end date for Carolina. Three receivers bunched at the

bottom of the screen. That play is going to lose about six

yards. They wanted that one to be a tossed her Ginn on the lateral, and

he would throw it back to camp Newton. -- a tossed to Ginn, and he

would throw it back to Cam Newton. On his right side, watch Newton, he

tries to get to the backside, nice play from Denver. Going back to Cam

So far in this game, he and TJ Ward committee had a bad ankle, they've

shown no ill effects, he showed excellent quickness in getting to

the ball. Contact, no whistle, he is off to

the races! Norwood across midfield. Nor would! Driving down from behind

the 15-yard line. Mario Addison may have saved the

touchdown, 28 yard punt, 61 yard return. I thought it was Colin

Jones, number 42, getting their early, they thought there would be a

flag, there was not one. They thought it would be whistled, it was

not, Norwood slipped through two attempted tackles, the number 21,

Teddy Williams was their committee could not get him. Denver now have a

great opportunity. Marianne Addison, the longest punt in Super Bowl

history. At this stage in the game, I know it

is early, but a field goal would be eight Mendis disappointment for

Denver. This kind of field position after that return, they have to cash

this in and get six, it is a tough Carolina defense. About Mario

Addison, chasing Norwood and getting the touchdown.

Not a lot of room... For Anderson. Do you wonder if Denver is thinking

now, four downs? They need to get a touchdown out of this, do they press

it? The way your defense is playing, you take the points.

I wonder how they feel about offense running all game long.

Kuechly in the defense, regrouping, Manning in the defense regrouping,

what about Norwood? Contact early from Jones. It was like everyone was

thinking it would be a fair catch call, it was not. We were all

surprised, it looks like fair catch interference from the number 42 for

Carolina, Williams did not keep playing, he was there for Carolina,

number 21. They let Norwood slipped through, waiting for a call that did

not happen. You are supposed to let the play finish. If Addison does not

make the hustle play, that is six points for Denver. Can the defense

holds Denver here? 3rd 1 at five. They will need almost a yard on 4th

down. Their defense is so good, field goal is the right play, but

I'm telling you, I think Denver is worried about how much offence they

can generate against Carolina so they might roll the dice and try and

get six. During the regular season, the Broncos were seven of 14 on 4th

downs. He fights and gets the extra

yardage! But there is a flag on the play. Was there a hold against

Denver? In the backfield, it's almost always a holding call.

Holding, offence, number 65, 10-yard penalty. That makes things easy for

Gary Kubiak. They will kick the field goal. That scares gets wrapped

up with Short. Excellent take-down, number 99 in black. In football,

that is a hold, and there goes the first am that was picked up, and a

field goal attempt now by Denver. Carolina has to consider themselves

fortunate that they are lining up for a field goal attempt and didn't

give up a touchdown. A 33 yard field goal, McManus right down the middle.

The 61 punter turned by Jordan Norwood. The Carolina defense held.

-- the 61-yard punt return. STUDIO: Do you view that as a

victory for Carolina? Absolutely. If you give away a big play on special

teams and you can stop them on defence, it's a victory. It is a

pyrrhic victory, and if you have too many of them, Carolina, you end up

losing. The longest punter turned in a Super Bowl. Do you think Carolina

expected a call. Absolutely. The guys hit him early but he kept on

running. How about Mario Addison? Saving a touchdown. That is an

incredible hustle play by Mario Addison and that might come back to

bite Denver, not scoring this touchdown. If you think something

happened and you slow up, a big play always happens after that. That is

exactly what happened. What is great is the angle Addison takes. Cut him

off. Pre-match, when everyone was warming up, we actually watched

Norwood and he and Fowler were throwing a medicine ball to each

other. I thought they were wearing themselves out before the game, but

these young guys have a lot of energy! It was the right medicine.

STUDIO: San Francisco has rolled out the red carpet all week long for

Super Bowl 50. Gorgeous city. 44 miles south, Santa Clara, Levi's

Stadium. Peyton Manning and the Broncos with a 13-7 lead. Cam Newton

and the Panthers have only put on good drive together. In the regular

season, they outscored their opponents in the first half by 145

points. The first two playoff games, plus 48. Tonight, -6, in Super Bowl

50. But a stand by the defense after the punt return. The fact they held

Denver to three is huge. Absolutely. Denver has to be kicking themselves.

They picked up the 1st down but they cost themselves with the holding

penalty. Touchback. Cam Newton and the Panthers will start at their own

20-yard line. The Denver Broncos, with a 13-7

lead. Cam Newton hasn't been sharp with

his throwing. He has used his legs to open things up for the offence.

Still waiting for some called quarterback runs.

Newton to Stewart, incomplete. Trevathan was on the coverage.

Newton doesn't look comfortable throwing the ball. The pressure of

Denver getting to him early has changed things, that is why I don't

think he's going to hang in the pocket quite as long. If these guys

are not open, he's going to start to move around and use his legs. That

is how they had their best drive, two great runs off pass plays.

He's got the 1st down. Miller on the tackle. The ball came out. Picked up

by Miller but they are saying down by contact at the 34. A big penalty

behind the play. A big hit. There is going to be a flag, I believe. It is

a run of 14 for Newton. Clete Blakeman will sort things out.

The runner was down by contact at the 34-yard line. After the play,

unnecessary roughness, personal foul, defence number 97, 15 yards,

1st down to Carolina. Jackson called for the penalty, so a 29 yard play.

Newton, was he down? He's down. Before it comes out. You saw Von

Miller trying to strip it, as he did earlier, but Newton held it through

the tackle. Once the knee hits the ground, he is considered down. The

penalty behind the play really helped Carolina. A fumble, turns it

over! Recovered by Denver. Trevathan on the recovery.

STUDIO: The pain on Cam Newton's face. Six and a half minutes left in

the second quarter and then we will have the Super Bowl half-time show,

performed by Coldplay and some special guests. Super Bowl 50, Mark

and Ron and Sarah and Brian from the NFL said, could you include the

past, the present and the future? The way we are doing the past is by

asking some of the people whose half-time shows we really loved, and

Beyonce is right up there. It has been fun to make a Giant band

together. Everyone who does this show knows it is the biggest honour

and the biggest privilege, so they put their life and soul into it. We

have watched all of the other half-time shows many times and most

of them were fantastic. We decided we would play all of our number ones

and work out how to fill the other ten minutes! Firmly split down the

middle between those of us who know absolutely nothing about football

and those of us who know almost absolutely nothing about football!

As long as LeBron James has a good game, things will be fine! And then

they were asked who they would like to win. Chris Martin said the Denver

Panthers! So we expect Beyonce to join them and we expect Bruno Mars

to join them as well. You can enjoy Coldplay and the half-time show. Six

COMMENTATOR: The Broncos with a 13-7 lead over the Panthers. Gary

Kubiak's squad forcing yet another turnover. Mike Tolbert fumbles for

the first time since 2011. The Denver Broncos in their eighth Super

Bowl. In five losses, they were -17, blown out. In their two wins, plus

four. In their eighth Super Bowl tonight, plus two. Turnovers are

huge component to winning and losing in the National Football League. If

you lose the turnover battle, you usually do not win the football

Certain games, like the Kansas City game, where Manning kept throwing

him the ball and throwing him the ball, he was making play after play.

Other times, he drops it. 21 drops in the regular season over the last

two years. Two in the playoffs until that one. 13 catches in his last

Super Bowl. Shut out so far this evening.

Given to Anderson, with some room. CJ Anderson inside the 40! Finally

shoved out of bounds at the 25-yard line, a gain of 34 for Anderson.

Normally Carolina is a good tackling defence, but he ran through Luke

Kuechly, number 59, Boston, number 33. When you run through Kuechly,

you have done something. Keo was occupied by the center, Matt

Paradis. Ronnie Hillman gets the carry.

Kuechly with the tackle. After missing the last one, Kuechly came

right through and wrapped up Hillman on that play. Right now, the recipe

is in Denver's favour, forcing turnovers, playing great defence.

Hillman had nowhere to run. Here is a big play call coming up for

Denver. If they keep kicking field goals, you keep giving life to

Carolina, even though Carolina is doing everything to give Denver an

advantage right now. Denver has to accept the gift and find a way to

put the ball in the end zone. A touchdown loosens things up for

Denver, a field goal means Carolina will still feel like they are right

there. Ealy with the pick. Finally tripped

up by Sanders. The spark that the Panthers defence needed... A sloppy

play by Manning. Carolina full them, because to the left of the screen,

Ealy, number 94, he normally rushes the quarterback. -- fooled them. He

dropped back as a linebacker. What an excellent play by Ealy, he batted

it and then pulled it in one-handed. Another big play by the Panthers

defence. They gave up no points and got the ball back for their offence.

A ?270 bob in man showing tremendous agility. Manning gets picked off. --

270 lb man. The Newton to the sideline as he was

about to get sacked. Jackson was all over him. I still think he's hanging

in there too long, he has to flush and go. The gifts he has with his

legs can really do damage to the Denver defence. The longer he hangs

in there, the big advantage it gives to the Denver pass rushers. Sting

them with his legs so that the pass rushing actually works against them.

Whittaker was hit initially by Wolfe and then chased down by Williams. No

gain on the play. 3rd 10 for Carolina. Ealy has a sack and an

interception in this game for the Panthers. Really stepped up his

play, second year in the league. Struggled as a rookie, didn't

understand what it took to be a pro. But it together, five sacks in the

regular season came in five consecutive games.

Newton zings one over the middle, incomplete. Intended for Corey

Brown. Roby on the coverage. You know what I think the difference is

for the Panthers receivers? During the year, and even in the playoffs,

they were catching a lot of uncontested passes, because they

were running the ball so well, wide open downfield. But today, just

about everything they are going up to catch, a Denver defender is there

to try and make a play on the football and it is affecting the

passing game. Brown had his hands on it. I agree. But different during

the season, there was no one around. They are feeling the presence of the

Denver defenders. Once the punt goes into the end zone, even if it

bounces out, it goes as a touchback which means the offence starts at

the 20-yard line. If 61 yard punt. Manning has now thrown his fifth

interception in Super Bowls. His fourth Super Bowl. But no harm no

foul, in the sense that Carolina didn't score. Although it did take

Denver out of a chance of three points.

Ealy That hurt them there. But not too much. Two points given up.

Carolina's defence is playing more in the first half, as the offence is

not possessing the ball for very long.

Manning, and Shaquil Thompson on the attack with Coleman. That is what

they need. They can't have the drop like they had earlier. They have to

stay on schedule. If Manning gets in third and longs, it is harder to

function. If they control the ball, they are

starting to wear down the Carolina defence. Offence is not helping out

at all. Anderson is going to lose a half a

yard. Thomas Davis with the cast on the right arm makes the tackle.

What a valiant player he is. Surgery and screws and a plate installed in

the forearm to fix the break. He has not missed time. He got hurt

in the championship game. Came back and started

ALL SPEAK AT ONCE Of his regular rotation.

3/2. No Emotion. Manning throws the out. Nowhere for Tomas to go. It is

a fast three and out for Denver. Just can't get to Tomas very well.

They are trying their best to find him. But Josh Bush matched him and

ended up winning the battle -- Josh Norman matched him. Carolina is

going to get the ball to. A fair catch after a # # 53-yard

punt. Carolina will get the ball. Possession here at the end of the

first half, down six. It's the last two minutes of the

half. Let's go back to the Kony Ealy play. Tremendous play. He is the guy

in the rush. Here he drops the coverage. Peyton manning is to fade

to the left. Not see him. Look at the big man moving. Look at him. Get

off me! When a defence gets the ball like this, this is what he dreams

off. They should be playing him wide

receiver. Absolutely. Tremendous play by Kony

Ealy. A guy who has come along. Playing fantastic football for the

Leon Panetta. Kony Ealy's eyes will have opened

wide. He will have seen glory. He was the guy at Missouri who

played opposite Michael Sam. . And when he was getting the publicity,

you watched the game, Kony Ealy was playing good on the offence.

plays in the game for the offence? There are some franchises who have

offensive co-ordinators. For these two? Schuller is calling

for Carolina and for Denver, it is Gary Kubiak. He is more a line

coach. But it is Gary Kubiak's offence.

OK. Let's go back to the game. The sun is starting to set in Santa

Clara in the Levi's Stadium, the home of the Super Bowl 50.

Peyton Manning and the Broncos. In front of cam Newton and the

Panthers. Denver has pressure on them. A sack

and a fumble resulted in a den very touchdown.

Cam has thrown four straight incompletions. Ron Rivera has gone

through a council of challenges. A reception in the first quarter

turned out to be a big play. There was a big ball. But there was

an upruling held incomplete. Newton was sacked. Fumbles and Denver gets

a touchdown. Denver got the fast start that they eagerly sought. They

wanted to get out in the front and make Carolina chase. They have been

able to do that. Ron Rivera.

Carolina will get the ball to start the third.

They have two time outs with 155 to go on the first half. Trailing 13-.

They can't get on the outside. A nice open field tackle by Chris

Harris. It almost would have been better off taking what was there.

They are getting a lot of jumps and they don't look quite right, talking
