Super Bowl 50 Review American Football

60 little football taken right from the start. Louw let's go subtly this

is ridiculous. Touchdown. This is ridiculous.

It is a sporting showstopper. In all American tradition 49 versions old.

And for its 50th, it will be a West Coast extravaganza. This year,

almost off the scale. Those that can influence it are ready in their own

special place, dealing with the stress of sport at this level. There

are some that will rise to the moment, others will be drained, left

in a heap. There is nothing to do for those outside the bubble of the

Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers, except to wish them all

safe passage and watched the beautiful madness of America at full

tilt in the crash and a dash to the end of the race to Super Bowl 50.

Hello, and welcome to San Francisco on the morning after the night

before. We're sat in front of the Bay Bridge and very shortly we will

get the thoughts of two-time Super Bowl winner and Jason Bell on Super

Bowl 50. Before we hear from them, let's show you the game

to honour America and perform our national anthem, please welcome

Super Bowl 50. Good afternoon, gentlemen, welcome

to Super Bowl 50. Carolina, you are visiting, what is your call. Tales.

Jonathan and -- gentlemen. And Super Bowl L is under way. Coldwell taken

Anderson. Inside the 30, tackled at the 27 yard line. It's a gain of

seven. Second and three. From the 27. Anderson with room, he's got the

first down inside the 20, tackled at the 15 yard line by Norman. Norwood

in motion. Nowhere to run and he gets gobbled up and loses a couple.

Shaq Thompson, Charles Johnson, pressured on the loss of two.

Thomas, second receiver to the top of your screen. Daniels in motion.

Second and 13. Manning, quick decision, knocked away, incomplete

by Robert McClain. That was close, that was really close. Robert

McClain got a great break on the football and that is a long throw

for Peyton Manning from the centre of the field all the way to the

outside. If Maclean is there one step earlier, he is still running

down the sideline. Excellent break by the quarterback for the Carolina

Panthers. Manning looks anxious, third and 13th, he checks

underneath. Not much for CJ Anderson. Thomas Davis runs him out

of bounds. Gain of one. Trying for a field goal and he is perfect right

down the middle. Mission accomplished for Denver on the

opening drive. Newton rips it up the middle and the pass is incomplete.

Jerricho Cotchery cannot handle the fast ball from Cam Newton. The coach

flows the red flag, which means he can challenge the play. There is as

possession of the ball. You have to have clear possession all the way to

the ground, and the hand is underneath the ball, doesn't make

contact with the ground. Now the ball is rolling because it touches

the ground. He secures it against his body and it isn't moving. It

doesn't touch the ground so that should be a catch for Cotchery. Here

is the referee. REFEREE: after the play, the call stands as an

incomplete pass. Carolina charged with the first timeout. That is the

loss of a timeout. Stuart nowhere to go, and he gets pulled down by the

ankles from Derek Wolfe. Newton out of the shotgun set. Under pressure,

going to get sacked, it is loose and recovered for a touchdown by

Denver. I think it was Von Miller who stripped him. Jackson gets the

touchdown. He is coming right in your face, Miller at number 58 weeks

Ramiz, -- beats Remmers. It looks like Jackson comes up with it in the

end zone for the Denver Broncos. What are played by Miller. To pull

it out. McManus on for the extra point. It is 33 yards and write down

the middle. Second and 11 as we start the second for Newton and the

Carolina Panthers. He is going to run. Slides to safety right near the

first down marker. What backup, which you can't do when you are

quarterback. Once you slide you give yourself up. Now he sees an opening,

and that is when the defence calls, letting him escape out the back door

because they didn't close the hatch on him. He finds the opening, and

uses it to great advantage, ducking down under the hit attempted by

number 43 TJ -- TJ Ward. Newton with a time, he

will run, take it to the sideline and he will get knocked out of

bounds by Von Miller. Second and three. Hand off, and he will be

short, Danny Trevathan got the hit on him. Carolina, this is the first

third and one. Newton, has to keep it, throws it back, he has Alston

for the first down. Inside the 20, the 15 yard line. Trevathan on the

case but Olsen with the gain of 19. They are inside the red zone, that

is the distance inside the 20 yard line. First and ten from the 15.

Newton. He has got round, wrestled out of hours and a flag comes in,

going to get called for face mask. REFEREE: personal foul, grabbing the

face mask. Defence, number 21. First down, Carolina. Everyone is looking

for the right side, and he gets every bit of his face mask on the

tackle. See him trying to get to Brown, his hand is solidly on it. He

jerks it, and throws it out of round -- bounds. He goes edible and for

the touchdown, and Carolina is on the board here at Super Bowl 50.

Look at that, right over the top, into the end zone, the ankle appears

to be OK for Jonathan Stewart. Look at Trai Turner, Mike Remmers, and he

goes right over the top and pushes himself into the end zone. Graham

Gano for the extra point. These are not automatic, they are from 33

yards and he squeezes that one in. Reverse spin boot. Norwood had

contact. There is no whistle. He is off to the races! Norwood across

midfield! Norwood drags down from behind at the 15 yard line. Mario

Addison may have saved the touchdown. 28 yard punt, 60 yard

return. I thought it was Colin Jones, number 42, who got there

early and public thought it would be a flag, and there was none. He

thought the ball might be whistled dead and it wasn't. Norwood was

alert enough to slip through attempted tackles and keep moving

the ball. Colin Jones was in early. The number 21, Teddy Williams, also

there but he didn't make the tackle, and our Denver has a great

opportunity. Mario Addison saved it. The longest punt return in Super

Bowl history, 61 yards. Manning on a first down. To Anderson. Kuechly

wrestles him down. Second and three from the seven. Not a lot of room

for Anderson. Third and one at the five. Andersen in one backs at.

Anderson, Lane, he is short. His initially. -- hit initially. Fourth

and one. Anderson, he fights it and get the extra yardage but there is a

flag on the play. Was there a hold against Denver? That's where it came

from the umpire in the back field and it is almost always a holding

called. REFEREE: holding, fence, number 65, ten yard penalty, playful

down. A field goal will be attempted now by Denver, and Carolina has to

consider themselves fortunate that they are aligning up for a field

goal attempt and didn't give up the touchdown. The field goal is where

the extra point is an McManus not sit Right down the middle, but the

60 yard punt return by Jordan Norwood sets up the Carolina defence

to hold, and the Broncos in front 13-7 in the second. Tolbert fumbled

it! He turns it over, it is recovered by Denver. Trevathan on

Stewart forced it out, Trevathan with the recovery. What are played

by Darian Stewart to create that, textbook. Manning on the Broncos

will start at their own 40. They will throw on first down. Drop.

Second and ten. From the Denver 40. Give to Anderson, with some room. CJ

Anderson inside the 40! And finally shoved out at the 25 yard line. Gain

of 34 for Anderson. Normally, Carolina is a good tackling defence,

but he ran through number 59, Tre Boston number 33, and when you run

through Luke Kuechly, you have done something. He was occupied by the

Centre, and then Henderson went out the backdoor. First and ten from 26.

Hillman gets the carry and picks up three. Second and 74 Manning on the

Broncos at the Carolina 23, trying to build upon a 13-7 lead. This

time, nothing doing. Hillman had nowhere to run. There is a big play

call coming for Denver because if they keep kicking field goals, you

keep giving life to Carolina even though they are doing almost

everything to give Denver and advantage right now. Newton under

pressure, get sacked! DeMarcus Ware. And that's how the first half

will end. What I want to know is, is there

anybody alive out there? And what can Carolina do on first

down to help them stay ahead in fence, not making it second? He gets

nothing. Got the first hidden in his teammates drove him back. What about

the comparison in the first half? 95 yards for Newton, 76 yards four

Manning. Manning has the interception, Newton has the

fumble. Newton over the middle, Ted Ginn with the speed. 35 and chased

out of bounds. And that's what they didn't get in the first half and

what they got in the play-offs and throughout the season. Big plays

down field throughout the season, and in the first half the Broncos

quarterback is work contesting everything when the ball got to the

receiver. When he hits Ted Ginn on the run, with about four yards

between him and the defender, you see what happens there. When he has

room he can catch the ball and uses speed to advance it down field.

Longest play from scrimmage here at Super Bowl 50 goes for 45 yards.

First and ten at the Denver 35. That last play, Denver brought pressure

and Carolina blocked it well. Newton chased by where, gets it away,

incomplete. Whittaker the tailback. Take the hand of Whittaker with room

off the right side and he has got ten and a first down. Flag comes in

late. REFEREE: the runner gained enough yards for a first down. After

the play, personal foul, unnecessarily rough. Fence, 15 yard

penalty. First and ten from that. I think there is frustration for the

Carolina offensive line, they have struggled with the Denver defensive

throughout the game. They did exactly that, they caught him and it

is such a big penalty. Against such a tough defensive line is an extra

yard you have to get, and it is a play you don't need to make. Antonio

Smith. First and ten at the 40 of Denver. Tolbert, yards, that's it.

Newton. Ted Ginn, first down. Tackled at the 25 yard line by Aqib

Talib. He comes here on the opening drive of the third quarter of.

Really well run by Ted Ginn, getting inside Aqib Talib is the best corner

in the league. He covers very well, but excellent movement by Ted Ginn

off the line of scrimmage and Newton delivered. First and ten at the 25

yard line of Denver, opening drive at the third corner. Carolina in

possession. Newton will keep it, the Broncos armful at all. Malik Jackson

was the first hit on the quarterback. Second and 11. Newton

at the sideline, and the past incomplete. Cotchery dropped it

again. Good coverage, you can see Vaughan

Miller and his amazing athleticism. Third and 11. From -- Broncos

bringing the pressure. There is no foul for a defensive hold on the

play. Trying a 44 yard field goal to get Caroline was in three --

Carolina. Hit it upright, no good. First offensive possession of the

third quarter. To be 40 yard line. -- the. Manning on the second and

eight. Sanders began on the claim. -- Maclean. Very well throw in

football is why Peyton Manning -- well flowed footballs. Carolina

Newton allows him to get rid of the football. Ordinarily players would

be sacked, no way to throw it. Here comes Marcus -- Damascus -- DeMarcus

Ware. Deflected! Intercepted by TJ war and! List and recovered by the

Broncos -- TJ Ward -- Loose. Gain of 16. Unsportsmanlike conduct, defence

number 33. 15 yard penalty. I saw the spike happened. Sometimes they

just let it go, but right here, it wasn't a spike. It was slapped out

of his hands. Just a dumb play. Going as a sack. Charles Johnson may

have knocked the ball out. Anderson, half yard, that's it. Strip, ball

loose! Did Carolina get it? They say they did. Newton, the middle of the

field. Complete set. Got a first down. Gain of 16. Looking back,

excellent play before Manning can get the ball forward. Definitely a

fumble. Stuart got a first down and a gain of 12. Newton throws it, the

pass is dropped again. I don't know that a flag was warranted. A

contested play. Got some hands on him. Right now, letting them fight

it out. This attack from 39. A little draw to it, bringing it

inside the right upright. One yard and that's it. Second and nine,

jumping offside. Incomplete. Carolina down by six. Vaughan Miller

with the sack! Recovered by the Broncos! Vaughan Miller was even

being held and he got the sack. Anderson fights to the four. Two

hands on the football. You can see Vaughan Miller, Newton had the

chance to dive on it but he didn't. With his size, he could have made it

a very even fight. Manning gets his wine set. -- line. Holding, defence

number 24. Half the distance to the goal line, automatic first down. He

essentially just got caught. Saying it was uncatchable. Fighting, is he

in? Yes, touchdown! Sacked, after Malika Jackson got

him. After this, Carolina never recovered! The Denver Broncos have

defeated the Carolina Panthers at Super Bowl 50. Day the first in the

history of the game to win a Super Bowl as a head coach with the same

team he played for. Congratulations. And the MVP of Super Bowl 50 is

Vaughan Miller! CHEERING AND

APPLAUSE Is this it? Will you ever set foot on the field tonight or do

you go away with the fairy tale ending? I got some good advice from

a hall of fame representative. He said not to make an emotional

decision. This has been an emotional week. I have a couple of priorities,

I want to kiss my wife and kids and celebrate with my family and

teammates. I am going to drink a lot of beer tonight. Those are my

priorities at this point. I'll take some time to reflect, but I will say

a prayer and a thank you to the man upstairs. Since Denver picked up the

Vince Lombardi trophy last night, one of these two hasn't stopped

smiling. I do think it sums it up in the San Francisco Chronicle, it says

old man and the D. That defence was tremendous. I don't think I have

seen a defence perform like that since the Baltimore Ravens in 2000.

You would go back to that? Some sad way Phillips, saying to him that it

was the best defensive performance as our? -- Wade? They knew they had

to dominate on defence, and they did it with their ferocious front seven.

Did you like it as a game? May be a casual fan would think there were

not many touchdowns? I loved it. From a defensive play a's

perspective, you saw tremendous co-ordination. They attacked the

offence is the way you would, if an offence was attacking a defence. The

coach used the team at his disposal. Line I loved it from a

defensive perspective. They were disruptive and helped the defence

get there. They worked well in unison. -- I loved it. One man who

features an awful lot in photographs, can -- Cam Newton. I'm

not going to sit over here and gloat. We all saw the same things.

This man was inaccurate. At some point, we knew it was going to come

back and bite him. He wasn't helped by the receivers by fellow he

wasn't, but he missed the ball ten times. He still made some good

throws that his receivers didn't capitalise on. Those are things that

usually happen in a game that they capitalise on. We haven't seen that

all season long. They've had one or two plays to allow them to make

that. About the press conference after, Cam Newton basically walked

out. Do you think that that press conference will haunt him? Yes, that

will be something he can never do again. People would be looking for

him to do that. He lost a big game, but you still have to be

professional and approach it like everybody else does. People are

making excuses for him. He was all smiles before, he was excited. Doing

all the exciting things. When things don't go your way, how do you

respond? He behaved like a child. Turning its back to Denver. They

couldn't celebrate too heavily because they had media duties. Is

really just came down to our mentality. We were confident in our

game. It was easy to go out and do it. We just felt like we kept it

together and we were one big play from putting it away. We worked all

year long. We called ourselves a grinding football team. Yesterday

was a great example of that. We knew we would stay true to who we were.

Denver had some ups and downs, do you think they were worthy winners?

I do, because of the defence. Defence wins championships. When you

get to the big game, that's the thing. The American public got their

fairy tale ending? They did. I don't know if they got it with... I think

most people wanted to see Cam Newton win. They wanted to see Cam Newton

walk away with his trophy. Unfortunately they had other

players. They did a tremendous job. How have you viewed this season as a

whole? Whistles a new stars which was very exciting. They have had

great careers. You saw consistency coming through and you saw that with

Denver. I like Peyton Manning, I am happy for him. Is so am I. -- so am

I. It will be interesting to watch what Cam Newton does, he is the

biggest star in the NFL at the moment. I don't think he deserves

that. I think the league wanted to see a new generation coming through.

At the end of the day, no matter what you do, all the rules are

tailored towards the offence. What you saw yesterday was even more

remarkable because there are so many things that you want to see in the

offensive explosion Vaughan Miller, next generation! -- explosion. Born

-- Vaughan Miller, next-generation! Thank you both so much. That was the
