Welcome to highlights of Eugene Diamond League, the Prefontaine

:00:52.:01:00.

Classic. This is the spiritual home of American athletics. Eugene is

:01:01.:01:06.

also the training base for Britain's Mo Farah, so where better for him to

:01:07.:01:12.

start the final season of a magnificent career on the track?

:01:13.:01:14.

Here we go. Here we go. There goes Mo Farah at the bell. Mo

:01:15.:01:32.

Farah's gone. He is away, bow to his superiority. It is gold! Let's get

:01:33.:01:41.

straight to the track and your commenters. - comment Taitors.

:01:42.:01:48.

COMMENTATOR: A huge field for the 5,000 metres. There was 29 starters,

:01:49.:01:57.

but it includes Mo Farah, the double Olympic and double world champion.

:01:58.:02:04.

There is Kejelcha, he is still only 19, but a year ago he lifted the

:02:05.:02:17.

world indoor title over 3,000. He is a special talent, but so is Chelimo.

:02:18.:02:28.

A personal best in Doha three weeks ago. There is the main man, Mo

:02:29.:02:38.

Farah. Chatted with him on Friday. The Olympic champion. This is his

:02:39.:02:48.

opening 5,000 metres of year. He ran a 1,500 two weeks backment looked

:02:49.:03:05.

very smooth. It is a big field. Kamworor is expected to provide a

:03:06.:03:11.

stiff challenge for Farah. We will identify more of the athletes now

:03:12.:03:17.

they're under way. They're looking for 62 seconds per lap. That would

:03:18.:03:29.

take set them up for a sub 13-minute time. Another Briton Andy Butchart.

:03:30.:03:36.

He ran a good indoor mile. He is on record over the last few days saying

:03:37.:03:46.

he believes Farah is beatable and Kamworor has said he believes he

:03:47.:03:52.

will win this race today. I have always been a fan of letting my legs

:03:53.:03:58.

doing the talking. Farah in eighth or ninth. Look comfortable. I was

:03:59.:04:08.

struck how relaxed Mo was sounding. He is not one to talk a good race

:04:09.:04:15.

unless he is feeling. When he talked to him about Kamworor, he said, I'm

:04:16.:04:22.

delighted. Six laps to run. Farah has moved up to fourth place. Sambu

:04:23.:04:29.

leads. The pace has settled down and a bit of a clip for Kejelcha. Farah

:04:30.:04:43.

on the heels of rest-vested Geoffrey Kamworor. Certainly has slowed a

:04:44.:04:50.

bit. They come to seven laps down. Sambu leading. Also looking strong

:04:51.:05:02.

is Jenkins, who has a great indoor season. He has enormous speed as

:05:03.:05:14.

well. They have come to 3,000 metres. Five laps to run. Kejelcha

:05:15.:05:22.

in the blue moving down the outside. They go through in 7.51. It is six

:05:23.:05:29.

or seven seconds outside the tempo that was requested. It has slowed

:05:30.:05:33.

over the last two or three laps. They have lost a lot of the hard

:05:34.:05:38.

work that was done earlier. Two laps to run and the clock on 11.03.

:05:39.:05:53.

Five men on the inside is Kamworor. He said he felt he could beat Farah.

:05:54.:06:05.

But he was outspringed by the bri -- outsprinted by the world champion in

:06:06.:06:09.

Beijing. They're leaving it late. They have to take control and

:06:10.:06:14.

wrestle back control of the race from Farah. And nobody's doing it.

:06:15.:06:19.

Yet again, I feel they're playing into the hands of the Olympic

:06:20.:06:23.

champion. They're not shifting fast at the moment. They're bunching.

:06:24.:06:29.

They're almost chomping on the bit on the shoulder of Mo Farah, yet

:06:30.:06:37.

they will not take the lead. Kamworor in fourth as they come to

:06:38.:06:42.

the bell. Mo Farah in the perfect position. Exactly where he wants to

:06:43.:06:47.

be - on the inside forcing the others to go around. Kejelcha into

:06:48.:06:53.

third. Kamworor slipping away. This is vintage Farah. Can the others

:06:54.:07:05.

stay with him. Kejelcha moving down the outside. Kamworor is there as

:07:06.:07:13.

well. But Farah holding the inside line, running the shortest bend and

:07:14.:07:16.

running a metre or two less than the others and he is in the front.

:07:17.:07:24.

Kejelcha on his shoulder. Now they kick for home. They move away from

:07:25.:07:30.

Kamworor and it is Farah who will take this again. Farah all the way

:07:31.:07:34.

down the home straight. Takes the win and the last lap from Farah I

:07:35.:07:42.

got at around 55.3 seconds. Kejelcha gave it such a hard go. But he felt

:07:43.:07:47.

he could outsprint the man who again and again has shown them that he

:07:48.:07:54.

will not be out-sprinted. If that is a mark tore lay down for -- marker

:07:55.:07:59.

to lay down for London, that is quite a statement. Yet again Mo

:08:00.:08:08.

Farah asked the question, does he have the speed? Yes. Do his

:08:09.:08:13.

opponents have a way to beat him? No they don't. It is like a puzzle and

:08:14.:08:19.

every time Farah has another gear. Even there he is not in fifth gear.

:08:20.:08:25.

There is more to come and Kejelcha admits he is beaten and the trade

:08:26.:08:29.

mark celebration for Mo Farah. What a performance. Confirmation of the

:08:30.:08:31.

win. There is a real familiarity to that

:08:32.:08:42.

result. It was good. It was amazing to win here. But this track is

:08:43.:08:47.

special and many people always say a lot of stuff in terms of Mo doesn't

:08:48.:08:52.

have a hard race and today it showed. Everybody was in that race.

:08:53.:08:57.

I went out there and used my experience and come awhich with a

:08:58.:09:02.

win. What a way to end my career in the US. This is my last track race

:09:03.:09:06.

ever in the US and this track, this is it. There is a host of British

:09:07.:09:18.

athletes competing today, including European indoor champion Andy Pozzi.

:09:19.:09:27.

Can Lynsey Sharp challenge the seemingly unstoppable Semenya? Adam

:09:28.:09:37.

Gemili faces a big test. And Laura Muir is in the 1,500 metres. Now

:09:38.:09:47.

let's catch up with the best of the action from Friday night.

:09:48.:09:59.

COMMENTATOR: The star was Chivet. This year the challenge came from

:10:00.:10:09.

the Kenyans. She was caught from behind was

:10:10.:10:35.

Chespol. There is the clip on the heel. It dislodged the shoe. And

:10:36.:10:49.

Chespol has to adjust. Look at the response. She winds them in.

:10:50.:11:02.

Chepkoech dining well. The world junior champion, the crowd warming

:11:03.:11:06.

to her on a wonderful evening. This is the water jump for the last time.

:11:07.:11:23.

400 metres on. Jebet has fwon. Now the handbrake is off and away she

:11:24.:11:31.

goes. It was a question of the time. Could she dip under 9 minutes? Well

:11:32.:11:36.

yes she could. The second fastest time of all time in the women's 3

:11:37.:11:45.

thousand steeplechase and an outstanding performance.

:11:46.:12:07.

This was Ugen's jump. She has been very consistent this year. That was

:12:08.:12:14.

the best of the lot. Enough to earn her third place. Bartoletta took the

:12:15.:12:33.

title last year. Here she got 6.83. Laying down the gauntlet to her

:12:34.:12:38.

American team mate. We were looking forward to another riveting rivalry

:12:39.:12:44.

between these two. 6.83 only enough for second. Because Reese started

:12:45.:12:52.

with 6.88 and then went better. This the best of the lot. 7. 01 and she

:12:53.:13:02.

knew it was a good one. Victory by a margin of 18 centimetres. The

:13:03.:13:05.

longest jump in the world in 2017. The only woman to jump over 7 metres

:13:06.:13:14.

assuring Brittney Reese victory. Revenge for the defeat in Rio in sum

:13:15.:13:28.

we are Ugen in 4th. The Prefontaine meeting is renowned for the big race

:13:29.:13:30.

action. Dbaba settled. She was never on

:13:31.:14:00.

schedule though and left well short of the target over the final couple

:14:01.:14:05.

of laps, despite rallying. The world record holder at 1,500 metres, the

:14:06.:14:10.

world champion, showing fraet strength over this longer distance

:14:11.:14:17.

and crowd roaring her on as she toured the circuit for the final

:14:18.:14:22.

time. She came home over 20 seconds shy of the mark required.

:14:23.:14:33.

The silver lining for Dibaba is that is not in sink with record setting

:14:34.:14:44.

in May. Her sights are set on the middle distance, but there was an

:14:45.:14:49.

air of disappointment as she took a very comfortable win indeed.

:14:50.:14:58.

Let's check in with the triple jump and Bin Dong.

:14:59.:15:13.

That's big. Brilliant opener. Wow. The Olympic bronze-medallist from

:15:14.:15:23.

Rio. The rhythm and power, it takes enormous strength to hold your

:15:24.:15:27.

balance through the phases. That will take some catching. Christian

:15:28.:15:37.

Taylor, two times Olympic champion. Just behind Jonathan Edwards on the

:15:38.:15:43.

all-time list. My word, that's huge! Three fabulous phases from Taylor.

:15:44.:15:50.

He really hit the board well. Maintained the speed, difficult to

:15:51.:15:55.

keep the momentum going, and then a marvellous leg shoot into the sand.

:15:56.:16:09.

17.80 two. Will Claye. Here we go. Enlisting the support of the crowd.

:16:10.:16:11.

Here he goes. Yes! Oh my word. That is brilliant.

:16:12.:16:27.

There's something in the Hayward Field juice today. Anything

:16:28.:16:31.

Christian Taylor can do, Will Claye can match it. That's what he seems

:16:32.:16:38.

to be saying. 17.01 the opening effort. That was a little site for

:16:39.:16:40.

him. This is huge. 17.38 puts him into second place,

:16:41.:16:50.

tucking in behind Christian Taylor. The next action is the women's 100

:16:51.:17:10.

metres hurdles. A magnificent seven of American high hurdler is. The

:17:11.:17:14.

strength in depth in American high hurdling is outstanding. In lane

:17:15.:17:21.

one, the only non-American, Alina Talay from Belarus. From the USA,

:17:22.:17:30.

Jasmin Stowers, heading for Olympic qualification last year before

:17:31.:17:37.

crashing into the final barrier. Dawn Harper-Nelson, former Olympic

:17:38.:17:42.

champion in Beijing in 2008. Still in great form. Sharika Nelvis, three

:17:43.:17:50.

times a Diamond League winner. And Queen Harrison, Pan American games

:17:51.:17:54.

champion in 2015. Stour is gets it on the line. 12.50

:17:55.:18:20.

nine. -- Stour is. Really good hurdling from Jasmin Stowers. 12.50

:18:21.:18:25.

nine. A season 's best for the young American.

:18:26.:18:31.

Second to write, Jasmin Stowers didn't get a particularly good

:18:32.:18:38.

start. Second to left, Christina Manning led through the first half

:18:39.:18:43.

and then Stowers got into her running. She knows she battling with

:18:44.:18:47.

an athlete five lanes to have a right. In lane eight, Queen Harrison

:18:48.:18:54.

easing past Manning to take second spot. This is the final result. A

:18:55.:19:09.

season 's best. Harper-Nelson was given third place. Armand Duplantis,

:19:10.:19:19.

the Swedish American, has pole vault thing in the genes with his father

:19:20.:19:23.

for top picked up a foal -- pole vault at the first time at the age

:19:24.:19:29.

of four or five. Great technique. The best pole vault in the family

:19:30.:19:35.

and already, at 17 years old, looking very, very accomplished

:19:36.:19:45.

indeed. Safely over at 5.70 one. -- 5.7 one. The reigning Olympic

:19:46.:19:52.

champion, Ruth Beitia. Nicely done. Effortless. Just warming up, Ruth

:19:53.:20:01.

Beitia. 1.8 four. Clean card so far. First-time clearances at 1.79 and

:20:02.:20:06.

1.8 four. Back to the triple jump now. The

:20:07.:20:11.

league still held by Christian Taylor with that Montrose --

:20:12.:20:18.

monstrous opener. Will Claye is in second after his second round

:20:19.:20:19.

effort. That's big from Claye again! I don't

:20:20.:20:33.

think it's taken the lead, but it might well be an improvement on the

:20:34.:20:41.

17.38 in the second round. He's so quick on the runway. Just lifts his

:20:42.:20:49.

head at the last minute. 17.38 we are looking to improve on. Christian

:20:50.:20:59.

Taylor on 17.8 two. 17.6 X, getting closer. Will Claye in second place.

:21:00.:21:08.

Coming next ago. The bar now at 1.8 eight. 19 years old. Prodigious

:21:09.:21:13.

talent. Clear daylight. Wonderful technique. Timing, so fluid. Ashley

:21:14.:21:24.

Cunningham at 1.8 eight. -- 1.80 eight.

:21:25.:21:29.

Andrew Pozzi's promising career has been blighted by injury. This year

:21:30.:21:35.

he filled early season promised by winning gold in Belgrade. If he can

:21:36.:21:39.

get through the outdoor season injury free he will expect to

:21:40.:21:42.

compete a world final in London against many of the men he faces

:21:43.:21:46.

today. There's the line-up for the men's

:21:47.:21:53.

metres hurdles. 110 Hot seat of Britain in lane two. Omar McLeod,

:21:54.:22:03.

the Olympic champion and... Devon Allen in lane five. There's Ronald

:22:04.:22:10.

Levy of Jamaica, the 24-year-old. Andrew Pozzi, European indoor

:22:11.:22:13.

champion in March, world number one indoors. Dimitri Bascou, his first

:22:14.:22:22.

race of the outdoor season. The Olympic bronze-medallist in Rio in

:22:23.:22:29.

three. There's Omar McLeod, the only athlete in history to have run under

:22:30.:22:35.

ten seconds for the flat 100 and under 13 in the hurdles. The Olympic

:22:36.:22:40.

champion, the world number one after a big win in Des Moines three weeks

:22:41.:22:42.

back. McLeod very quick on the run in.

:22:43.:23:04.

Second place might have been Ronald Levy. There was no doubting the

:23:05.:23:16.

winner. Omar McLeod taking it. Another very, very polished

:23:17.:23:19.

performance. Not the best start from Omar McLeod, but by the third or

:23:20.:23:24.

fourth hurdle he was into his rhythm. Pozzi working very hard to

:23:25.:23:28.

get into the picture. Omar McLeod, the longer the race went on, the

:23:29.:23:34.

better he got. The margin of victory was quite comfortable. Alan trying

:23:35.:23:39.

to go with him with Aries merit. Trying to play catch up. Look at the

:23:40.:23:47.

lean to the line from McLeod. Fastest in the world this year. In

:23:48.:23:54.

second place, in yellow, brie and run from Ronald Levy. A Jamaican --

:23:55.:24:03.

brilliant run. We can go back to the triple jump

:24:04.:24:09.

and Christian Taylor. About to take his fourth attempt. He's put

:24:10.:24:12.

together a wonderful series and he leads. That's big again! He knows

:24:13.:24:26.

it. Stomps out of the pit, oozing pomp and arrogance. That is so

:24:27.:24:31.

important, mentally he's really on top of this. Thumping his chest. He

:24:32.:24:36.

knows he's got this nailed, going so well. Modest in the second round.

:24:37.:24:48.

18.11! Now we are getting into world record territory. The 18-metre club

:24:49.:24:53.

has five members, that's all. Renaud Lavillenie. Yes! That's the

:24:54.:25:09.

lead for the Frenchman. The little man with the big heart is on song

:25:10.:25:15.

here, going for a fifth title. They absolutely love him and the

:25:16.:25:21.

adoration is very much reciprocated by Renaud Lavillenie, one of his

:25:22.:25:25.

favourite meetings in the Diamond League series. That is why. He's top

:25:26.:25:32.

of the leaderboard once again. We can take you back to the triple

:25:33.:25:38.

jump. Taylor booming out to 18.11. He's now regained the lead. What

:25:39.:25:47.

will Will Claye do in response? Plenty of speed, nice rhythm to the

:25:48.:25:53.

board. Fabulous second phase. That's big again. That might be 18 metres

:25:54.:26:00.

once more! I think only once in history have two athletes beaten 18

:26:01.:26:04.

metres in the same competition. We might be seeing it again here at

:26:05.:26:08.

Hayward Field. He's hoping and praying that he will have taken the

:26:09.:26:13.

lead from this man, who jumped 18.11 in the fourth round. 18.05, Will

:26:14.:26:24.

Claye. That is a huge new personal best. Looking at the wind, it was

:26:25.:26:30.

2.4. Just over the limit. It doesn't count as an official personal best.

:26:31.:26:35.

Psychologically he's knows he's an 18-metre jumper. 2.5 inches shy of

:26:36.:26:47.

Christian Taylor. Back to the track, the women's 100 metres. The athletes

:26:48.:26:52.

stripped down and ready at the far end. Veronica Campbell-Brown is a

:26:53.:26:57.

living legend, three times Olympic champion, taking 200 gold in Athens

:26:58.:27:02.

and Beijing Guoan the she looked very out of sorts in Shanghai a

:27:03.:27:06.

couple of weeks back when she finished sixth. Michelle-Lee Ahye

:27:07.:27:12.

your, fifth in the last World Championships, fourth in Shanghai.

:27:13.:27:15.

Can she find her reasoning -- racing legs? Muler L Ahoure of the Ivory

:27:16.:27:25.

Coast. -- Uri Geller hooray. She's a quick starter. Moral Lake Akinosun

:27:26.:27:36.

goes in lane six. -- Morolake Akinosun.

:27:37.:27:52.

Akinosun takes it from Ahoure. Ahye coming through to take third spot.

:27:53.:28:08.

If the time is confirmed, it is a significant new personal best for

:28:09.:28:11.

Akinosun. The wind just over the legal limit at 2.1. It does mean the

:28:12.:28:19.

personal-best stays at 10.95 for the American. Ahoure took second place.

:28:20.:28:27.

Brilliantly timed by Akinosun. Third left of picture. At this stage

:28:28.:28:33.

Ahoure is looking good and has opened up some daylight. Here comes

:28:34.:28:37.

Akinosun in the last ten or 15 metres, flailing the arms of it.

:28:38.:28:41.

Confirmation of the win for Akinosun. Campbell-Brown, a

:28:42.:28:50.

significant improvement for the Jamaican.

:28:51.:28:52.

Back to the men's pole vault competition. Duplantis, final

:28:53.:29:01.

attempt. It was close. He gave it a tickle. The bar sadly comes down for

:29:02.:29:09.

him. His afternoon is over, but he's won the hearts of this Hayward Field

:29:10.:29:14.

crowd, many of whom are seeing him for the first time. He is surely the

:29:15.:29:18.

future of men's pole vault thing in the world and he's quite a talent. A

:29:19.:29:23.

third failure and his competition is done. Sam Kendricks lying in second

:29:24.:29:29.

place, from the USA. This his first attempt at 5.86.

:29:30.:29:49.

Trying to keep pressure on Lavillenie. Kendricks, an Olympic

:29:50.:29:58.

bronze-medallist from last summer. Oh yes, he has brought the crowd

:29:59.:30:06.

alight. That is the gauntlet laid down to Lavillenie. Kendricks takes

:30:07.:30:17.

the lead. Lovely vaulting. Women's high jump. The second attempt. That

:30:18.:30:21.

is more like it. She goes clear at 1.95. Second

:30:22.:30:33.

place. In lane 8 the 20-year-old from

:30:34.:31:06.

Africa. Lane 7 Vernon Norwood, an accomplished relay runner.

:31:07.:31:13.

Hudson-Smith making his debut for Britain. Very much the future of

:31:14.:31:25.

British 400-metre running. Shawn Merritt, what can we say about him

:31:26.:31:30.

that hasn't been said. Seven times a champion. Three times an Olympic

:31:31.:31:36.

champion. I saw him yesterday looking very re-Laaxed in-- relaxed

:31:37.:31:46.

indeed. Merritt very much the man to beat in this race. Let's keep an eye

:31:47.:31:56.

on the young man to his left Sibanda. But Merritt is on the

:31:57.:32:05.

shoulder of Hudson-Smith already. Lane 4 is out. Sibanda has gone.

:32:06.:32:12.

Merritt running a tight bend. Going well is Norwood in lane 7. We have

:32:13.:32:18.

lost the young African. Merritt coming under pressure from Norwood.

:32:19.:32:24.

But still he will have far too much to do. Merritt coming home in under

:32:25.:32:31.

45 seconds. 44.79. Just a fraction outside his season's best. But

:32:32.:32:46.

another very polished performance by La Shawn Merritt. He brings

:32:47.:32:51.

fantastic 200-metre speed. As he comes off the bend, he looks a

:32:52.:32:59.

little leg levy. They were -- leg heavy. Conditions are not ideal.

:33:00.:33:04.

There is a strong wind. They are coming back in 7 and 8. Thebe just

:33:05.:33:10.

taking second place to the extreme left of picture. But he did stay

:33:11.:33:16.

well clear, Merritt. The only athlete under 45.

:33:17.:33:31.

Will Claye, this man's triple jump competition has been coming to a

:33:32.:33:38.

boil. With Christian Taylor with the second best jump of all time. There

:33:39.:33:43.

is another excellent jump, but shy of the magic 18 metres mark and more

:33:44.:33:51.

frustration. 18.05. But it was not legal. Taylor is already confirmed

:33:52.:33:57.

as the winner. Can he be boyed out to something better? That looked

:33:58.:34:01.

like a no-jump from Taylor. It matters not a jot. He has the win.

:34:02.:34:09.

Confirmation of the win. 18.11. Very rarely do you see two athletes over

:34:10.:34:15.

18 metres in the same competition. Dong takes third. Back to the pole

:34:16.:34:26.

vault and Lavillenie still in action. Nobody yet clear at 5.91. Oh

:34:27.:34:34.

no, I thought he had that. He did too. So frustrate rd, it was a

:34:35.:34:39.

brilliant attempt. In fact it is a second attempt. But his last effort

:34:40.:34:46.

because he had one failure at 5.86. But Sam Kendricks has won the day.

:34:47.:34:52.

The Olympic bronze-medallist clearing 5.86. I said it could be

:34:53.:34:55.

significant. That is what has been the case.

:34:56.:35:02.

Still to come, Laura Muir in the 1,500 metres. The world and Olympic

:35:03.:35:10.

champions lead a high class field in the women's 200 metres. There is the

:35:11.:35:20.

ladies 800 metres. What a field it is, the world No 1, Caster Semenya,

:35:21.:35:27.

a Winner Doha three weeks ago. Twice a world champion.

:35:28.:35:42.

Niyonsaba. And the Olympic bronze-medallist from Rio Wambui.

:35:43.:35:59.

This Caster Semenya in lane 6. Big, imposing figure. Will she dominate

:36:00.:36:10.

as she did in Doha? Well Chambers the pace maker running to run 56.

:36:11.:36:19.

She has gone off well as has Lynsey Sharp in the blonde pony tail. Sharp

:36:20.:36:25.

is in the middle of a pack. Difficult when you're on the inside

:36:26.:36:29.

at the start. Do you go off quickly to try and get position near the

:36:30.:36:34.

front or go at a steady tempo and get boxed, like Sharp has. Chambers

:36:35.:36:44.

leads, Niyonsaba has gone with her. Wambui this third. And then Caster

:36:45.:36:49.

Semenya in fourth. Loping down the home straight as they come to the

:36:50.:36:55.

half way mark. Even in fourth there is something about the rhythm of

:36:56.:36:58.

Caster Semenya that looks so threatening. She looks untroubled.

:36:59.:37:05.

Wambui looking to be working harder. We will see Semenya come good. The

:37:06.:37:10.

pace maker Chambers is out out there and went through in 59 seconds and

:37:11.:37:15.

there was not much interest from the field. Niyonsaba in second. As

:37:16.:37:23.

Wambui moves up on to her shoulder. Now the move from Caster Semenya.

:37:24.:37:31.

Eases on the should and moves into the lead. Wambui moves on to her

:37:32.:37:40.

shoulder. She looks so untroubled, so relaxed. Now she pumps harder.

:37:41.:37:45.

Wambui on her shoulder. They are moving clear. The rest struggling.

:37:46.:37:51.

Caster Semenya doing just enough to stay ahead of Wambui. The gap is a

:37:52.:37:56.

metre. Semenya will take it. The clock didn't stop. What a shame, or

:37:57.:38:05.

if it did very late. It shows 1.59.09. Ignore that time on screen.

:38:06.:38:14.

But Caster Semenya, well, it Wurz almost patronising, she dominated so

:38:15.:38:19.

much and did just enough to keep Wambui at bay. Semenya hugging the

:38:20.:38:25.

inside track. Forcing her Kenyan opponent go wide. Semenya looking

:38:26.:38:32.

untroubled. Just a glance to the right and she can just ease off in

:38:33.:38:38.

the final few metres. Caster Semenya winning. The wing mar gin belies the

:38:39.:38:48.

ease of the victory. The crowd expect fast times from the

:38:49.:39:05.

100 metres. The entire field have sub 10 second personal bests. So

:39:06.:39:10.

Gemili will have to be on top form. Justin Gatlin the world champion. He

:39:11.:39:23.

is 35 years old now. The Canadian is still only 22, De

:39:24.:39:49.

Grasse, huge hopes for him. Meite was solid in Shanghai a fortnight

:39:50.:39:58.

ago. His lifetime best is 9.96 came in Rio. There is Ronnie Baker. He is

:39:59.:40:12.

a youngster too at 23A distant relative of one Tyson Gay. Ujah goes

:40:13.:40:24.

for Britain. Gemili, three times European champion, the 23-year-old.

:40:25.:40:30.

He was fourth in Rio over 200 metres.

:40:31.:40:47.

Baker storming away with this. Look at the time. 9.85 there. Fabulous

:40:48.:40:59.

stuff from Ronnie Baker. That is a huge new personal best from him. It

:41:00.:41:03.

is a world lead as well. Fastest time in the world was 9.98 by the

:41:04.:41:14.

Zambian. But that time, albe it with a wind over the limit. Didn't get

:41:15.:41:21.

the best of starts. But soon up and into his running. Justin Gatlin also

:41:22.:41:26.

third from right going well. The longer the race went on. He dragged

:41:27.:41:32.

Ujah with him did Baker. That is very impressive from the

:41:33.:41:35.

23-year-old. He has been in sparkling form and played a part in

:41:36.:41:41.

the world relays last month. That is a couple of good scalps for Bayer

:41:42.:41:45.

Kerr. -- for Baker. This is one of the most eagerly

:41:46.:42:05.

anticipated races of the weekend. Six women sub four minutes. The

:42:06.:42:12.

record on US soil for the most sub four minute finishes is five.

:42:13.:42:24.

Kipyegon has owned this event. But Laura Muir is in the form of her

:42:25.:42:34.

life. Had a wonderful indoor season. Four national records, five personal

:42:35.:42:39.

bests and double victory at the European indoor Championships. The

:42:40.:42:43.

pacing to be done by Price. They have asked for 64 laps. Aiming to

:42:44.:42:50.

get under 3.59. This will be a really tasty encounter. A chance

:42:51.:42:55.

from a British perspective for Laura Muir to come of age and test herself

:42:56.:43:00.

against the very best. She has the fastest time in the field. There is

:43:01.:43:16.

the pace maker. They have requested 60 second laps. There is Laura Muir

:43:17.:43:23.

taking close order with Kipyegon. That is Grape Grace at the -- Cape

:43:24.:43:32.

Grace at the front. I'm surprised to see these big names come together. I

:43:33.:43:37.

almost feel it is a clash that should have been saved for the World

:43:38.:43:41.

Championships in London. This is a fabulous field. Simpson against

:43:42.:43:48.

those two. But Laura Muir will have to do some smart thinking. I think

:43:49.:43:55.

Kipyegon has it all. You're right and the point well made, we saw in

:43:56.:44:00.

the Olympics last year with Laura Muir in a medal position and not

:44:01.:44:05.

happy to settle for nird. Tried to em-- for third and tried to improve

:44:06.:44:07.

and came home in seventh. There is also also a world class

:44:08.:44:25.

operator. Plenty for Laura Muir to test herself again. Kipyegon where

:44:26.:44:32.

she wants to be and Muir just getting boxed in slightly.

:44:33.:44:44.

Kipyegon shocked many with her victory in the Olympic Games. Two

:44:45.:44:52.

laps to run. The last 800 metres in Rio was way under 1.58. Dibaba

:44:53.:45:08.

couldn't last on the final lap but Kipyegon could. Laura Muir came

:45:09.:45:12.

unstuck over the final 200 metres and Jenny Simpson ran the smoothest

:45:13.:45:18.

race of all. There she is now, second left. She ran the smoothest

:45:19.:45:22.

race to take the bronze medal. Grace is still in there as well, going

:45:23.:45:27.

shoulder to shoulder with Kipyegon. Laura Muir a bit further back.

:45:28.:45:31.

Shannon Rowbury is also in the field. The pacing has been nicely

:45:32.:45:37.

done. Kipyegon taking closer order as the pacemaker drops out. Now a

:45:38.:45:44.

chance for Laura Muir to test herself against Faith Kipyegon.

:45:45.:45:50.

Final 400 metres. Kipyegon hits the bell. Grace on the inside, Laura

:45:51.:45:59.

Muir having to go wide. Gudaf Tsegay is in there as well, I sat opposite

:46:00.:46:05.

her on the plane, chatting to her. There's Laura Muir down the back

:46:06.:46:10.

straight with 300 to go. What has she got? We were talking to her

:46:11.:46:15.

coach last night, and the young, and he admitted there had been a couple

:46:16.:46:21.

of problems with a fever. Otherwise training at Flagstaff has gone

:46:22.:46:27.

perfectly over the last few weeks. A question over whether the hay fever

:46:28.:46:31.

and pollen count in Oregon is very high. She's having to dig very deep.

:46:32.:46:38.

She likes to do it the hard way. I think Kipyegon has got this, she's a

:46:39.:46:42.

class apart. Laura Muir digging deep, having to work very hard to

:46:43.:46:48.

stay in second place. Another impressive victory for the Kenyan.

:46:49.:46:53.

She takes applause. Laura Muir beaten by the better woman on the

:46:54.:47:00.

day. Smiles all round from the meeting record holder. Kipyegon

:47:01.:47:04.

comes up with another very, very impressive performance. Kipyegon has

:47:05.:47:09.

marvellous speed in during and over the final 200 it told. Easing clear

:47:10.:47:17.

of Laura Muir. Look at the grimace from Laura Muir. Obiri snatch a

:47:18.:47:24.

second place. Kipyegon looks smooth. Lovely, fluid stride. She wins from

:47:25.:47:30.

five or six metres. Obiri of Kenny just gets second. Confirmation of

:47:31.:47:40.

the result... Laura Muir having to settle for third on this occasion.

:47:41.:47:45.

More to come, you sense, from the European indoor champion.

:47:46.:47:52.

Here is Kamila Licwinko. This is her third and final attempt at 1.98.

:47:53.:48:01.

That was all wrong. A shame. Concludes her work for the

:48:02.:48:08.

afternoon. She was fine up to and including 1.92 and then 1.98 she

:48:09.:48:15.

hits the buffers. The last attempt for the competition leader competing

:48:16.:48:24.

here as a neutral athlete, Russian born. Third attempt at 2.03 and it

:48:25.:48:32.

was successful. That surely is the jump that will clinch that high jump

:48:33.:48:38.

competition and it does indeed. The Olympic Club you, Beitia, in fourth

:48:39.:48:54.

place. -- the Olympic champion. That's huge! You could hear him roar

:48:55.:49:00.

it on its way. That is a monster from Crouser. His lead was with

:49:01.:49:05.

21.89. That is very close to his lifetime

:49:06.:49:22.

best. Kovacs, last attempt in this shot put competition, lying in third

:49:23.:49:27.

place. That's a no throw. Joe Kovacs's afternoon is done and he

:49:28.:49:33.

will finish in third place. It underlines the quality of this

:49:34.:49:37.

competition when the reigning world champion, Joe Kovacs, can do no

:49:38.:49:41.

better than third place. Tom Walsh steps into the circle for the final

:49:42.:49:46.

time, the penultimate throw of the contest. He needs to find, goodness

:49:47.:49:53.

me, about 70 centimetres. That's to catch Crouser. No. So close. Looks

:49:54.:50:01.

to be beyond 22 metres, but it's no throw. That's frustrating. It was

:50:02.:50:09.

big. You have to retain control, stay within the circle. That

:50:10.:50:19.

confirms Crouser as the winner. Tommy Walsh's best coming with his

:50:20.:50:26.

opener. The next action on the track is the women's 200 metres and a

:50:27.:50:31.

field loaded with talent. Rio reunited. All three medallists from

:50:32.:50:37.

last summer are here. Better known as a 400 metres runner, the Olympic

:50:38.:50:42.

champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo going in the 200 here. Tori Bowie in lane

:50:43.:50:52.

seven, the silver and bronze-medallist, bronze in the 200,

:50:53.:50:58.

silver in the 100. The joint fastest in the world this year. Elaine

:50:59.:51:02.

Thompson, double Olympic champion, the first female sprinter to do the

:51:03.:51:09.

sprint double at an Olympics since Flo Jo in 1988. Very much the

:51:10.:51:15.

favourite to win here. Dafne Schippers, born just 13 days apart

:51:16.:51:19.

from Elaine Thompson was -- Elaine Thompson. She will have a say here,

:51:20.:51:27.

Dafne Schippers. The world champion. This field, one of the highlights

:51:28.:51:31.

for this wonderful crowd anticipating a wonderful race.

:51:32.:51:39.

Looking for Elaine Thompson in the purple vest. Tori Bowie has had a

:51:40.:51:47.

storming first 50 metres. Coming under pressure is Dafne Schippers.

:51:48.:51:52.

She's doing very well, but at the moment Thompson is nowhere. Tori

:51:53.:52:02.

Bowie is going to win this one. Shaunae Miller-Uibo, the 400 metres

:52:03.:52:06.

specialist, in second. Bowie has taken this field apart. Elaine

:52:07.:52:10.

Thompson, the double Olympic champion, made to look very, very

:52:11.:52:16.

ordinary. Dafne Schippers also flailing behind. 21.77 the winning

:52:17.:52:22.

time. That's an improvement on her lifetime best, a scorching

:52:23.:52:30.

performance. Bowie in the blue, blasting the first 75 around the

:52:31.:52:34.

blue. -- around the bend. The others can't get close. Great bend from

:52:35.:52:41.

Dafne Schippers, solid running down the home straight from Thompson, but

:52:42.:52:46.

the gap was huge. She never had a chance of getting back to Tori

:52:47.:52:51.

Bowie. A big win for the American. Confirmation... Allyson Felix,

:52:52.:53:01.

22.33, down in fifth place. There's the statue of Bill Bowerman

:53:02.:53:06.

and we prepare now for the final discipline, for many the climactic

:53:07.:53:13.

discipline, the Bowerman mile. Bill Bowerman one of the Storl warts of

:53:14.:53:18.

track and field in Oregon. The pacemaker will be Rotich. He's

:53:19.:53:28.

looking to go out in 1.53. Sensible pacemaking. Elijah Kiptoo expected

:53:29.:53:35.

to take over. If they can lay down a decent final lap, having stuck with

:53:36.:53:39.

that tempo, we might get something under 3.50. The Olympic champion

:53:40.:53:50.

withdrew two days ago. Centro running really well a couple of

:53:51.:53:57.

weeks back, but he's got a virus at the moment. The injury is recovering

:53:58.:54:01.

well, but Centro pulled out with a virus. Charlie Grice, winner of the

:54:02.:54:09.

international mile last year. He is upgraded from the international race

:54:10.:54:15.

to the main Bowerman mile. Clayton Murphy is back in eighth place at

:54:16.:54:19.

the moment in the light blue vest. I'll be interested to see how he

:54:20.:54:25.

goes here. At the moment, looking for the tall figure of Kiprop. He's

:54:26.:54:36.

not the first four canyons. In fact, looking to see where Kiprop is, you

:54:37.:54:43.

can see Ingebrigtsen towards the back of the field, about three from

:54:44.:54:48.

the back. A lap and a half done. Also going well is Iguider, three

:54:49.:54:58.

times Olympic finalist. Very tough customer, a good 5000 metres runner

:54:59.:55:02.

as well. Kiprop towards the back of the field in the Orange, three from

:55:03.:55:07.

the back. Letting this race run away from him and he does this so often.

:55:08.:55:13.

Almost an arrogant, strategic method. Sometimes it works,

:55:14.:55:18.

sometimes it doesn't. This hasn't been particularly quick, around

:55:19.:55:26.

1.55. Not as quick as requested. Not at all. Kiprop almost idling at the

:55:27.:55:32.

back. Fascinating to see him starting to pick his way... Second

:55:33.:55:38.

from the back. He's about to be overtaken. Interesting to see

:55:39.:55:42.

whether Kiprop will do his trademark surge from the back in the final 400

:55:43.:55:49.

to 600 metres. Blankenship making a big surge. Somebody has gone down.

:55:50.:55:54.

That's Souleiman, that's unfortunate. Lincolnshire got fed up

:55:55.:56:01.

with the way it was meandering up the back straight. -- Blankenship.

:56:02.:56:08.

This is playing into the hands of one man. I'm looking at Clayton

:56:09.:56:15.

Murphy in the light blue. Watch him. He's got the 800 metres speed. Can

:56:16.:56:21.

he stay with it? Blankenship, eighth in Rio over 1500 metres. Kwemoi is

:56:22.:56:29.

there, the winner over 3000 metres in dough half. -- dough half. --

:56:30.:56:34.

Qatar. Kwemoi has the strength from the

:56:35.:56:48.

3000 metres. The Kenyans emanating this one at the moment. Murphy has

:56:49.:56:52.

left himself with a lot of work to do as they come into the final

:56:53.:57:00.

straight. Murphy should have been up with these three. Kwemoi down the

:57:01.:57:05.

outside and he will take this. The strength and speed are there. It

:57:06.:57:12.

looked like a tactical affair. That could have been so much quicker.

:57:13.:57:18.

Here are the three Kenyans battling it out. It became a test of strength

:57:19.:57:25.

over the last 30 to 40 metres. Great leg speed to beat Manangoi. Let's

:57:26.:57:34.

take a look at the final result. The Kenyans proudly wearing their

:57:35.:57:35.

national vests. That's all from Eugene. We're only

:57:36.:57:49.

halfway through a day of sport on BBC Two. Stay with us for the

:57:50.:57:52.

European rowing Championships. Thanks for joining us. We've seen

:57:53.:58:12.

some more great performances from some of the world's best athletes,

:58:13.:58:16.

who are all working towards one thing, the World Championships in

:58:17.:58:20.

London in August. Until next time, goodbye. Usain Bolt! He's done it!

:58:21.:58:32.

Semenya is the champion! A new British record! A mammoth jump! A

:58:33.:58:41.

new world record! Sophie Hitchen, what an effort. It's huge! A new

:58:42.:58:50.

British record! David Rashida is going to win the world title. A

:58:51.:58:57.

beautiful jump. Laura Muir, she has smashed the British record. Mo Farah

:58:58.:59:00.

wins the gold! We need to trap the beast

:59:01.:59:12.

which killed him. Tear him apart!

:59:13.:59:20.

I want him found! Now!

:59:21.:59:25.
