Edna Kiplagat of Kenya defends her world title in William style. --

:00:59.:01:09.
:01:09.:01:22.

going to get here, this is world Professional sport comes in all

:01:22.:01:25.

sorts of shapes and sizes but essentially asks just the one

:01:25.:01:30.

question - who is the best? The most important answer depends on where

:01:30.:01:33.

you are from. It is probably football in Brazil, Cricket in

:01:33.:01:38.

India, Rugby in South Africa. There is one universal language, though,

:01:38.:01:48.
:01:48.:01:48.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:01:48.:02:38.

Usain Bolt up to his familiar antics. It is still coming down

:02:38.:02:44.

hard, the rain. They are getting away, Justin Gatlin

:02:44.:02:48.

gets the best start alongside him. Usain Bolt is going to get there,

:02:48.:02:58.
:02:58.:03:04.

year storming past MIT is going to ever doubt Usain just the 9.77

:03:04.:03:12.

seconds, but enough to make sure the attention stays on the track rather

:03:12.:03:15.

than off of it. Here is what is coming up this

:03:15.:03:20.

morning. The female multi-eventers are out on the track today, no

:03:20.:03:23.

Jessica Ennis-Hill, so a jazz for Katarina Johnson-Thompson to make

:03:23.:03:30.

her mark on the global stage. -- a chance. Defending champion Dai

:03:30.:03:35.

Greene defends his 400m title. Watch out for a trio of really talented

:03:35.:03:42.

Americans. It is the women's 400m hurdles, as

:03:42.:03:51.

well. Watch out for the Czech Republic runner, she has been the

:03:51.:04:01.
:04:01.:04:14.

outstanding world number one. She about Jessica Ennis-Hill not being

:04:14.:04:20.

there. Brett Morse will be going it in the discus qualification, the

:04:20.:04:26.

3000m steeplechase heats, and then the 400m hurdles heats at the end of

:04:26.:04:36.
:04:36.:04:37.

this morning with Dai Greene and a storm on the track last night, and

:04:37.:04:42.

a storm of it, and it has brought a change of weather. Good Monday

:04:42.:04:48.

morning to you. Hopefully we can cheer you up with the smiling faces

:04:48.:04:51.

of Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson. Good morning.

:04:51.:04:56.

Have you recovered from the drama of last night? It was exhausting, there

:04:56.:05:02.

was a lot of anticipation, how fast is Usain going to go, how fast is

:05:02.:05:08.

James Dasaolu going to go? We were all expecting a good race,

:05:08.:05:14.

good competition, but the weather did not -- let us down. We have had

:05:14.:05:19.

amazing weather for the last few days and for the start of the men's

:05:19.:05:23.

100m the heavens opened. It did not stop the action, and obviously,

:05:23.:05:28.

Bolt, it did not affect him. much quicker did you think he would

:05:28.:05:34.

run it if it had stayed dry and hot? I predicted 9.7, not much faster

:05:34.:05:41.

than that. What the rain does come as a competitor, it dampens your

:05:41.:05:45.

mental ability. You think, oh, it is raining. Instead of focusing on what

:05:45.:05:51.

you are doing. If there is a nice wind behind you you get excited and

:05:51.:05:55.

thinking this is going to be the day. It was a major event, major

:05:55.:06:00.

competition and the most important thing was taking the victory. As --

:06:00.:06:06.

everyone wanted to win and run well as we saw by the statistics.

:06:06.:06:10.

He won the race, but he is well off his best shape.

:06:10.:06:16.

I think we are spoiled, 9.58 is easy to him so he is going to break the

:06:16.:06:20.

world record every ten years on the track. The reality is he is just a

:06:20.:06:26.

very quick man and running 9.77 is still a hell of a performance. He

:06:26.:06:31.

did enough to win and I think for him now winning is about what it is

:06:31.:06:36.

about. Potentially, by the time Rio comes around, he could be one of the

:06:36.:06:45.

most decorated sportsmen ever in any sport. Do you worry, Colin, about

:06:45.:06:51.

his motivation? It is a long way to Rio. Post-Olympic year, he has

:06:51.:06:57.

struggled a little, perhaps. It is about balance, isn't it? At he has

:06:57.:07:00.

the desire. As long as he has the desire to perform at the hires level

:07:00.:07:05.

that can motivate him to train in the evenings and the mornings, to

:07:05.:07:09.

work hard, focus, to have athletics completely own your lifestyle. If

:07:09.:07:13.

you have that to keep winning medals, that is all he needs to

:07:13.:07:20.

perform. I think if he stopped running tomorrow he would be a

:07:20.:07:23.

legend in our sport, but for him it is about transcending that even

:07:23.:07:29.

further. I think total domination. The best sports person ever is

:07:29.:07:34.

really his goal. There is really close to that. Afterwards, Usain

:07:34.:07:41.

Bolt spoke to Phil Jones. Usain, King graduations, you have

:07:41.:07:45.

your gold medal back, has it got a special edge because of that two

:07:45.:07:48.

well, yes I am happy but I wanted to do better.

:07:48.:07:54.

After the semifinals I was not feeling good, my legs felt sore. I

:07:54.:07:58.

came out here just to win. You did that with some style, nonetheless

:07:58.:08:02.

come in a time of 9.78, that says something about that above-average

:08:02.:08:09.

UR. I was happy to come out here, the fans came out, a lot of

:08:09.:08:17.

Jamaicans in support, it was great. Back in Jamaica they must be so

:08:17.:08:23.

proud of you. How we are you -- hideaway of that are you on an eight

:08:23.:08:28.

like tonight? I know they expect me to come out and dominate no matter

:08:28.:08:32.

what, they just want me to win. It is always great to come out here and

:08:32.:08:38.

do great for my country. I saw you trying to put up a

:08:38.:08:44.

metaphorical umbrella as the rain came down. That just came to me, I

:08:44.:08:49.

am just spontaneously that, the rain came down. As always, it was great.

:08:49.:08:54.

Thanks for talking to us. He talks about adding fun to it, do

:08:54.:08:58.

you think it is going to get less fun as the weight of expectation for

:08:58.:09:05.

the whole sport comes on to him? Well, if it is not on him already.

:09:05.:09:08.

He recognises that comedy is a responsible athlete and enjoys his

:09:08.:09:16.

athletics. The key is he still enjoys it. -- he recognises that, he

:09:16.:09:22.

is responsible athlete. His life would be a little bit empty without

:09:22.:09:26.

going round the stadium is waving to the crowds with big smiles. Where

:09:26.:09:31.

else will he get a platform like this? I think he will stick around

:09:31.:09:35.

for sometime, but I would liken to reassess his goals and think to

:09:35.:09:41.

himself, I want to go 25 races unbeaten, perhaps that will give a

:09:41.:09:45.

bit of a focus now. Winning championships - he does that easily

:09:45.:09:51.

now. We have obviously lost Tyson Gay

:09:51.:09:56.

because of this drugs test, no Yohan Blake with his injury, it would have

:09:56.:10:00.

been a different race if one of those two had been in it.

:10:00.:10:03.

Absolutely, that was the mouthwatering prospect we were

:10:03.:10:11.

looking forward to. But our healthy Blake here would have added a new

:10:11.:10:15.

dimensional and pushed him further. I would stick my neck out and see a

:10:15.:10:19.

healthy Blake may be in shape to beat him over the 100th. I don't

:10:19.:10:26.

think over 200m there is anyone that can touch him. As Colin said, it is

:10:26.:10:29.

about reassessing his targets and making sure he can find that

:10:29.:10:35.

stimulus about his challenges going forward. We had a Brit in the final,

:10:35.:10:38.

James Dasaolu, he finished in eighth place but a great achievement to get

:10:38.:10:43.

to the final. It was an impressive performance because after his first

:10:43.:10:47.

round we all thought he was going to struggle, he was nowhere near his

:10:47.:10:52.

personal best of 9.91. To get to the final I think took a

:10:52.:10:57.

lot out of him, not only physically but mentally. It was a good job, it

:10:57.:11:01.

has been a long time since we have had a meal British sprinter in any

:11:01.:11:08.

global final, so now we have one who can produce under ten seconds when

:11:08.:11:14.

it really matters. I was really pleased for him, and I hope again

:11:15.:11:20.

that this eighth place does not affect him. He had trouble in the

:11:20.:11:26.

build-up, didn't he two yes, he had hip problems, he did not have the

:11:26.:11:28.

best preparation for these championships.

:11:28.:11:33.

But running under ten seconds twice this year for a British athlete is a

:11:33.:11:37.

great achievement. I think if he can stay healthy and start to believe he

:11:37.:11:42.

is in the calibre of the Americans and Jamaicans, possibly not Bolt,

:11:42.:11:45.

but he can do really well in the championships and really deliver on

:11:45.:11:51.

this kind of stage. We were pleased with his performance, but was he?

:11:51.:11:57.

James, what a night, to go under ten seconds and make the final on this

:11:57.:12:00.

huge stage, I know you would have liked to have gone better but this

:12:00.:12:05.

has been an incredible night. Yes, this semifinal took a lot out

:12:05.:12:11.

of me, I was watching my race back there and I gave it everything I had

:12:11.:12:15.

for 60 metres and ran out of gas for the last 40 metres. I was happy to

:12:15.:12:20.

make the final, it is an achievement for me so far in my career. To put

:12:20.:12:26.

it into perspective, your last race was in Birmingham before this, when

:12:26.:12:29.

you ran 9.91 and then you had injury problems. How difficult has that

:12:29.:12:35.

journey been? I was out for around three weeks, I knew it was going to

:12:35.:12:39.

be tough but it is about self belief. It was tough but I am just

:12:39.:12:46.

happy to make the final. You must be bred of yourself because I know with

:12:46.:12:51.

times under ten seconds you can be in the mix with these guys with the

:12:51.:12:55.

right preparation. This is my first year going under ten, if I can carry

:12:55.:13:00.

on making it under ten on a consistent basis I can work on that

:13:00.:13:05.

for the final and build on that. Thank you for talking to us... I

:13:05.:13:09.

want to thank my mum, I know they have been praying a lot, I would

:13:09.:13:13.

like to thank God because they are a very religious family, I would also

:13:13.:13:21.

like to thank my fiance, as well. I am glad he is happy, Colin.

:13:21.:13:24.

is important, sometimes young people have huge expectations of themselves

:13:24.:13:31.

and thank, I am disappointed. He knew what he achieved, he took

:13:31.:13:33.

his performance beyond his own personal expectations and he has

:13:33.:13:38.

realised, hang on, I am eighth in the world, not many people can say

:13:38.:13:45.

that. It was a solid performance. It is Denny 's's bald event, the

:13:45.:13:49.

heptathlon, coming up, first it is the 100m hurdles.

:13:49.:13:56.

Good morning from the Luzhniki Stadium, capacity 6000, just under

:13:56.:14:00.

that this morning, gently easing into

:14:00.:14:04.

This is the line-up. Julia Machtig from Germany is someone to look out

:14:04.:14:08.

for, not necessarily in this event because she seems to struggle in the

:14:08.:14:13.

hurdles but she will get stronger as the heptathlon goes on. It is a

:14:13.:14:17.

field overall which has been decimated, not just the three

:14:17.:14:24.

medallists from London missing, the top five from London are missing.

:14:24.:14:28.

The Russian injured knee ligaments during the Russian trials, the

:14:28.:14:35.

silver medallist of Germany, injured as well. It is all about the times,

:14:35.:14:41.

of course, here, and the quickest in this line-up is Wassana Winatho, the

:14:41.:14:51.
:14:51.:15:21.

Asian champion from Thailand. We off very slowly. Bit of a stumble at

:15:21.:15:31.
:15:31.:15:46.

the end from her, too. There is about 980 points for the winner,

:15:46.:15:54.

Wassana Winatho. She just time to run to the end perfectly there.

:15:54.:16:04.
:16:04.:16:09.

Apple to grab second place. 13.88. Once twice over the last couple of

:16:10.:16:14.

days, especially in the early morning, we have had a problem with

:16:14.:16:24.
:16:24.:16:36.

the timing. That is a personal best for Eliska Klucinova.

:16:36.:16:40.

Not only get to catch up with Katarina Johnson-Thompson, has chic

:16:40.:16:46.

answers through Oliver events. hurdles, that is becoming one of my

:16:46.:16:52.

strongest events. In the Habitat win, it is one shots to do

:16:52.:16:57.

everything. You have to do your best at every event. The high jump is my

:16:58.:17:05.

strongest event. It is the higher scoring event in the habitat: . The

:17:05.:17:15.
:17:15.:17:15.

shot put is getting there. If I can just get a bit more length, it could

:17:15.:17:21.

be hundreds of points. Hopefully I can do well another not embarrass

:17:21.:17:27.

myself too much. In the hundred metres, I got a huge personal best

:17:27.:17:37.
:17:37.:17:37.

and they didn't -- a huge personal best in Finland. With my throws, I

:17:37.:17:41.

will have to get better in the other events! The long jumpers made a

:17:41.:17:51.
:17:51.:17:58.

first event -- is my favourite event. I jumped 6.60 at the

:17:58.:18:03.

Anniversary Games, Slovakia get that again, that would be great. My

:18:03.:18:09.

javelin is a lot better in the shot put. I feel are taken get further

:18:09.:18:19.
:18:19.:18:19.

with that. I kind of enjoy the 1,500m. I like the rat race that

:18:19.:18:29.
:18:29.:18:32.

goes on nets, fighting for a medal. Last year I was just going for as

:18:32.:18:37.

high as I could get, no want to go for medals. It will all come down to

:18:37.:18:47.
:18:47.:18:52.

the yet hundred metres. Well the British heptathlete machine

:18:52.:19:02.
:19:02.:19:07.

see it in such a healthy situation. Katarina Johnson-Thompson is the one

:19:07.:19:13.

we will look to hear. She is looking good. She has obvious strengths, and

:19:13.:19:23.

some weaknesses that might hamper her this weekend -- sorry, today.

:19:23.:19:25.

She knows that there's an opportunity with all the top names

:19:25.:19:30.

not here to come forward. It is actually a very mediocre field, to

:19:31.:19:38.

be honest. Sharon Day from the USA is one of the only woman in this

:19:38.:19:44.

field to score over 6500 points. In my day, that is a score that a lot

:19:44.:19:48.

of women would have been able to get. What can you do? She just has

:19:48.:19:53.

to compete at the best of her ability. In Sydney you were held

:19:53.:19:59.

together with bits of tape, weren't you? It is a tough event. The girls

:19:59.:20:03.

are used to be love training for it. It is about keeping your head in the

:20:03.:20:09.

right space and taking keep sheep event is due come. Well, there is

:20:09.:20:14.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson. That is way down in the BIOS of the

:20:14.:20:18.

stadium, somewhere. She is just ready to come out for the third

:20:18.:20:24.

heat. She looks very relaxed, very comfortable. These girls get on

:20:24.:20:29.

really well, they do. It is strange for people to believe that, but

:20:29.:20:34.

generally there is a good atmosphere. She has relax, she

:20:34.:20:38.

enjoys the hurdles, and she knows if she gets her heptathlon of June good

:20:38.:20:48.
:20:48.:21:03.

start, she is ready. So, heat number she is having a great season.

:21:03.:21:09.

Nafissatou Thiam turns 19 a week today. She has taken the Belgian

:21:09.:21:19.
:21:19.:21:26.

record. There is Bettie Wade. She seconds that she finished second in

:21:26.:21:36.
:21:36.:21:36.

their American championship second Sharon Day. There is Kristina

:21:36.:21:46.
:21:46.:21:47.

Savitskaya getting the early-morning applause from described. The javelin

:21:47.:21:55.

is really the strength for Sofia Ifantidou there. There is the

:21:55.:22:05.
:22:05.:22:25.

reigning African champion, Yasmina Omrani. Katsiaryna Netsviatayeva is

:22:25.:22:35.
:22:35.:22:51.

lame you. Nafissatou Thiam is a event in the heptathlon. This is the

:22:51.:23:01.
:23:01.:23:01.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:23:01.:23:45.

that is confirmed, that is a personal best for Linda Zublin. That

:23:45.:23:49.

is all you can do you, get a personal best. If you keep doing

:23:49.:23:56.

that, it will add up to many points. If confirmed, up to a thousand

:23:56.:24:03.

points for Linda Zublin. She got away well. It was a bad start by

:24:03.:24:13.
:24:13.:24:15.

Bettie Wade. The only athlete to really challenge Linda Zublin was

:24:15.:24:20.

Yasmina Omrani. Linda Zublin stood up rather quickly. You might have

:24:20.:24:24.

heard Colin Jackson the other day talking about getting your hips high

:24:24.:24:32.

as soon as you can after the start in preparation for the first hurdle.

:24:32.:24:39.

Linda Zublin is very quick between the hurdles. She seems to be a

:24:39.:24:41.

little bit of balance when she lands, to she couldn't really drive

:24:41.:24:51.
:24:51.:24:52.

for the line. That is a good time, 13.51. That is a smart effort from

:24:52.:24:59.

the Swiss champion. And you lifetime best. That is a new personal best

:24:59.:25:09.
:25:09.:25:10.

for Yasmina Omrani. Disappointment that Jessica

:25:10.:25:15.

Ennis-Hill isn't here, injury meaning she could not come and event

:25:15.:25:25.
:25:25.:25:27.

title that you one of 2009. Jessica Ennis-Hill so away well. She

:25:27.:25:32.

is coming away very strongly here. Jessica Ennis-Hill sprinting away

:25:32.:25:42.
:25:42.:26:00.

here! Jessica Ennis is flying! She certainly has produced a lifetime

:26:00.:26:10.
:26:10.:26:14.

run through. Not very quick, and it is not very long. But that is a

:26:14.:26:21.

solid start. It has been a long, hard, gruelling

:26:21.:26:25.

two days, but the things they the way they are, we are looking at a

:26:25.:26:34.

world champion! Great Britain has found another great start! The girl

:26:34.:26:38.

from the city of steel comes to Berlin hunting for gold, and she has

:26:38.:26:48.
:26:48.:26:53.

We will miss her. When you watch that, you smile. She is

:26:53.:26:58.

aesthetically so pleasing to watch. She looks very athletic and

:26:58.:27:02.

everything she does. That is what attracts you to her skills. Also the

:27:02.:27:09.

way she competes, she is a mean competitor. You think she is just

:27:09.:27:14.

gorgeous, just lovely, but when push comes to shove, she pulls

:27:14.:27:23.

underperformance. What was impressive about Berlin is having

:27:23.:27:28.

had virtually all of 2008 at home injured with that stress fracture,

:27:28.:27:31.

to come back in the world Championships and dominate the way

:27:32.:27:40.

she did was extraordinary. That says a lot about her mental toughness.

:27:40.:27:43.

She is very determined, very ambitious. You can be sure that you

:27:43.:27:53.
:27:53.:27:56.

will combat stronger next year. Katarina Johnson-Thompson, will it

:27:56.:28:03.

be better for heard that Jessica Ennis-Hill is not here? I think she

:28:03.:28:09.

likes to have her around. She has to be focused and do well. Looking at

:28:10.:28:14.

what Katarina Johnson-Thompson has done so far, she has taken

:28:14.:28:18.

Jessica's junior record, and is maybe 200 points ahead of where

:28:18.:28:24.

Jessica was at a similar stage. is what is so exciting for us. She

:28:24.:28:31.

has won junior championships. That has got to excite her. How important

:28:31.:28:38.

is it for her to go off to good start? It is essential. Your

:28:38.:28:42.

adrenaline is built up this event. It is an early start with these

:28:42.:28:47.

ladies. You can make mistakes in the hurdles, you don't want that because

:28:47.:28:51.

you would constantly be wearing catch up afterwards. She is looking

:28:51.:28:56.

relaxed and those which it has to do. You saw her last year competing

in London. She embraced that environments. She loved the

:29:01.:29:07.

adulation and used it so effectively. One thing she is

:29:07.:29:15.

guaranteed is British support! British are always here! Paul Diggin

:29:25.:29:34.

everybody. This is the line-up for heat three.

:29:34.:29:44.
:29:44.:29:56.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson goes in finished 16th in the Olympic on

:29:56.:30:03.

petition last year. She has improved in a few disciplines, though. 13.53

:30:03.:30:13.
:30:13.:30:18.

is her lifetime best. She said that this year. Sofia Linde, European

:30:19.:30:25.

junior medallist, 18 years old, the Dutch always turn out a good team of

:30:25.:30:35.
:30:35.:30:37.

heptathlete is. Makeba Alcide. Possibly one of the favourites to

:30:37.:30:47.
:30:47.:30:51.

but under 200m on day one, can the American Sharon Day get off to a

:30:51.:31:01.
:31:01.:31:20.

of the blocks, Ellen Sprunger right on the inside. Grit Sadeiko is going

:31:20.:31:26.

to win this one, there was off fall there, the Dutch athlete was going

:31:26.:31:31.

so well up until the last hurdle. Sadeiko came through, 13.40, a very

:31:32.:31:36.

good time. This is what can happen in the

:31:36.:31:43.

heptathlon or the Dakar phone, you can come unstuck on one event. -- or

:31:43.:31:48.

the decathlon. The Dutch athlete is down on the final hurdle, she has

:31:48.:31:53.

been going well this season, she is three times the Dutch champion. We

:31:53.:31:58.

are talking about Sharon Day, she could challenge for the title, but I

:31:58.:32:03.

think Nadine Broersen will be one of those thinking about getting up

:32:03.:32:12.

towards the medals. Nadine Broersen did finish but she will gather very

:32:12.:32:18.

few points because of this. She will be absolutely disgusted

:32:18.:32:24.

with herself. That last hurdle will have cost her dearly. 13.40 is a

:32:24.:32:31.

very good score indeed for the very good score indeed for the

:32:31.:32:36.

winner, 1065 points. A bit of Russian jiggery-pokery with

:32:36.:32:40.

the timetable and the selection of heats, we thought it was heat three,

:32:40.:32:44.

but it is heat for four Katarina Johnson-Thompson, which makes sense

:32:44.:32:52.

because she is a decent hurdler. She is, and she wants to get her

:32:52.:32:56.

campaign off to a good start with the fastest women in the field.

:32:56.:33:01.

It is better for her psyche, keeps focused, I hope she gets a good

:33:01.:33:05.

lane. She looks relaxed, which is good.

:33:05.:33:13.

Just mark out the names to look out for and maybe I guess of the points

:33:13.:33:19.

tally to take this title. It is difficult to say at this stage.

:33:19.:33:25.

These guys are trying to get close to their personal bests, break them

:33:25.:33:28.

if possible. Katarina will be looking to finish in the top eight,

:33:28.:33:38.
:33:38.:33:41.

maybe take a medal if the opportunity should arrive. But

:33:41.:33:51.
:33:51.:34:01.

Antoinette Nana Dijmou, and Ashton Eaton's wife, Breanne TS and eaten.

:34:01.:34:04.

Apparently she nearly killed her husband with a javelin!

:34:04.:34:10.

Yes, he was retrieving his javelin and heard javelin caught him across

:34:10.:34:20.
:34:20.:34:23.

the face. Luckily it was not a bad injury.

:34:23.:34:28.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson is clearly a good sprint hurdler. But she is

:34:28.:34:36.

not such I good thrower. She is not. It is something, in heptathlon you

:34:36.:34:41.

don't get everything all at once, it is like making a cake, one year you

:34:41.:34:45.

will work on your furrows, another year it is speed and endurance. She

:34:45.:34:51.

is in a transitional phase where she has knocked chunks off of her

:34:51.:34:57.

personal best. There will be real emphasis on throwing in these

:34:57.:35:04.

championships, she knows that is the difference between a 6300 athlete

:35:04.:35:11.

and being up at 6500. Sometimes with junior athletes you measure

:35:11.:35:16.

development, they develop quickly and she gets a big score because she

:35:16.:35:21.

has developed quickly, that does not seem the case with Katarina.

:35:21.:35:26.

In the heptathlon you have so many events you can work on them.

:35:26.:35:30.

When you are a young junior you have lots of attributes you have

:35:30.:35:35.

naturally, a natural jumper, a natural runner, and natural

:35:35.:35:40.

hurdler, but Katarina struggles with the shot but. She said that she can

:35:40.:35:45.

get a meter, that will come with maturity.

:35:45.:35:51.

She relies a lot on her speed, jumping is exceptional, but these

:35:51.:35:55.

are things she can develop, strength in the gym, she needs to work on

:35:55.:36:02.

that if she is able to get up to the 40 metres that gives you that

:36:02.:36:07.

confidence to make sure you are in the mix when you are a 40 metre

:36:07.:36:10.

floor. She seems to have a level-headed attitude to the World

:36:10.:36:16.

Championships. In the shot putt last night she finished in sixth place,

:36:16.:36:18.

but Colin, she shrunk under the pressure, that is not something

:36:18.:36:23.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson and seems to do. That is also something you

:36:23.:36:30.

cannot teach an athlete. I was excited about Jessica Ennis-Hill

:36:30.:36:35.

many years ago, she came through and delivered, I am excited about

:36:35.:36:45.
:36:45.:36:48.

Katarina. This time it is Katarina The final heat of this heptathlon

:36:48.:36:58.

champion last year indoors and if she is in shape she can be a real

:37:16.:37:22.

challenger. The fastest time we have had in the hurdles so far, 13.50 by

:37:22.:37:27.

Grit Sadeiko of Estonia. Katarina Johnson-Thompson's best thing is

:37:27.:37:36.

13.48, she will be hoping to get close to that. Ganna Melnichenko of

:37:36.:37:44.

the Ukraine finished 10th in the Olympics last year. We have Karolina

:37:44.:37:54.

Tyminska, she could be a challenger. Erica Bougard, of the USA. Breanne

:37:54.:38:00.

Jason Eaton, the wife of the new world champion in the decathlon,

:38:00.:38:10.
:38:10.:38:19.

Ashton Eaton, also the decathlon indeed, she is the European 100m

:38:19.:38:29.

champion, she has tremendous flat speed, Dafne Schippers. Watch out

:38:29.:38:34.

for Breanne TS and eaten. Lies from a British perspective on Katarina

:38:34.:38:43.

Johnson-Thompson, this new exciting champion. The British Junior

:38:43.:38:48.

heptathlon record-holder. There is Ashton Eaton, the king of

:38:48.:38:52.

multi-events here in Moscow, the decathlon champion watching his

:38:52.:39:02.
:39:02.:39:32.

lifetime best and a season best, too. First blood to Canada, Damian

:39:32.:39:36.

Warner did so well in the men's decathlon taking the bronze medal.

:39:36.:39:46.
:39:46.:39:47.

They have a couple of very good multi-event here. Theisen Eaton is

:39:47.:39:50.

starting her campaign in flying colours. We will have to confirm

:39:50.:39:58.

what Katarina Johnson-Thompson did, but a slow start for the Britain.

:39:58.:40:03.

Yes, Katarina Johnson-Thompson is not on the big screen yet, but a

:40:03.:40:07.

very good performance from Brianne Theisen Eaton, she may have been

:40:07.:40:10.

inspired by her husband watching. She had that flat speed we were

:40:10.:40:20.
:40:20.:40:21.

talking about. I suppose another thing, having watched what happened

:40:21.:40:26.

to Nadine Broersen, the other Dutch athlete avoided any pitfalls.

:40:26.:40:30.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson probably wanted a bit more from that, but

:40:30.:40:36.

Theisen Eaton was very impressive from start to finish.

:40:36.:40:42.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson's time has just come up at 13.49 seconds, only

:40:42.:40:46.

100th of a second outside of her lifetime best, perhaps we are doing

:40:46.:40:51.

a little bit of a disservice to her here. She finished shortly. There is

:40:51.:41:00.

the time is concerned -- confirmed. A brilliant win for Brianne Theisen

:41:00.:41:06.

Eaton of Canada, 13.17, by far and away the fastest order on display,

:41:06.:41:16.
:41:16.:41:20.

1099 points. As Michael the fastest for the final tomorrow. Robert

:41:20.:41:25.

Harting, the defending champion, spinning that discuss way beyond the

morning sessions. They started about 15 minutes ago. -- throwers do not

:41:50.:41:54.

65 metres, that should not prove a problem to anyone, especially this

:41:54.:42:02.

giant man, Robert Harting qualifies easily with over 66 metres.

:42:03.:42:07.

Another man who should qualify easily is the former Olympia

:42:07.:42:13.

champion from Estonia -- former Olympic champion, third on the

:42:13.:42:20.

all-time list. He always finishes very quickly indeed, a little bit of

:42:20.:42:26.

balance on that occasion, but it just pops over the qualifying line.

:42:26.:42:30.

In quick succession, two automatic qualifiers. David Canter, perhaps

:42:30.:42:37.

not the athlete he once was, but when you consider his lifetime best

:42:37.:42:47.

is 70.38, third on the all-time list. Here's 34 years old, Robert

:42:47.:42:56.

Harting is comparatively a youngster. Ashton Eaton certainly

:42:56.:43:00.

will be delighted with his wife's progress in the heptathlon. He was

:43:00.:43:06.

cheering there, he was on his feet. There is the leader in the head of

:43:06.:43:11.

one after the first event, and there are other points, Brianne Theisen

of Katarina Johnson-Thompson's of Katarina Johnson-Thompson's

:43:26.:43:32.

strongest disciplines. JONATHAN EDWARDS: We were looking at

:43:32.:43:37.

that race and thinking, maybe not, but each race is not a race against

:43:37.:43:43.

the opposition but against yourself. It is a race against yourself. I was

:43:43.:43:47.

thinking her start was not as good as normal but she came through

:43:48.:43:50.

brilliantly in the field and as you said it is about staying with your

:43:50.:43:55.

personal best. She will be thinking, OK, job done, moving onto

:43:55.:43:58.

the high jump, this is where I need to start amassing my points because

:43:58.:44:04.

this is one my strengths. It is almost like... I was going to

:44:04.:44:09.

see a different sport, but a different mental approach. In our

:44:09.:44:15.

sport I was thinking I need to jump further than him, you thought I need

:44:15.:44:19.

to run faster, it is a different mental approach, isn't it? Yes, you

:44:19.:44:24.

have to become a different athlete, you know you're hurdling is not the

:44:24.:44:27.

quickest, but you know what you can do, you know your strengths are

:44:27.:44:32.

coming up and you have to deliver on them. You have to keep changing your

:44:32.:44:37.

philosophy throughout and being competitive, knowing you have to

:44:37.:44:41.

react if your nearest rival is really on the game. But here you see

:44:41.:44:47.

her jump, she does not panic, she knows it is good enough, but she is

:44:47.:44:57.
:44:57.:44:58.

driving for the line and working well. The key thing with the

:44:58.:45:01.

heptathlon is that, you know, it is seven events, you cannot lose your

:45:01.:45:04.

focus for one second and you cannot panic until you cross the line.

:45:04.:45:06.

when you have a field about you running away from you and you think

:45:06.:45:12.

I am not doing very well, you have to be incredibly mentally tough.

:45:12.:45:16.

Yes, you cannot afford to panic. We saw that at the Olympics last year

:45:16.:45:21.

where she knew she was good enough and she knows she is still learning,

:45:21.:45:28.

she is only 20 - there is a lot of room for growth here. Colin, you

:45:28.:45:34.

were intensely watching her technique? Yes, I was watching how

:45:35.:45:40.

soft and gentle she is into the first hurdle, but once she felt more

:45:40.:45:43.

confident she rose very well off every single barrier. All she needs

:45:43.:45:49.

to do is push into the first hurdle a little bit and she will lose

:45:49.:45:57.

tenths of seconds. Jess is always a regular 13 second hurdler, I think

:45:57.:46:05.

Katarina can get there, too. If you're watching on the TV, it is not

hear from you, send us your tweets and we will read them out. Be nice

:47:08.:47:14.

to us, especially Denise because we have been giving her a hard time!

:47:14.:47:20.

Women's long jump last night, we had high hopes for Shara Proctor, it did

:47:20.:47:30.
:47:30.:47:44.

not quite turn out as we had hoped. She seemed to be in such good

:47:44.:47:49.

position going into yet, the longest distance in qualifying, 6.85. There

:47:49.:47:56.

is no point jumping big distances throughout the year, then folding

:47:56.:48:04.

when it counts. To do seem to be very tight. She didn't look very

:48:04.:48:09.

fluid. I think she was concentrating on getting as fast as she possibly

:48:09.:48:19.

could. One of the things that you needs to long jumpers give yourself

:48:19.:48:24.

a certain amount of range of the board. In trying to run really fast,

:48:24.:48:33.

she didn't get much left. Absolutely. Through the middle of

:48:33.:48:39.

her run-up, it was too short and tight, the penultimate fit that you

:48:39.:48:44.

needed to go into the take-off was not quite right. It is so

:48:44.:48:54.
:48:54.:49:04.

frustrating. When you go on the runway, she must be thinking to

:49:04.:49:10.

yourself, I am capable of doing this jump and if I do this jump, I will

:49:10.:49:14.

win the gold medal. I think sometimes that can be overwhelming

:49:14.:49:19.

for an athlete. It is in your grasp. Sometimes it is difficult to deal

:49:19.:49:25.

with that. Get up to the level of anxiety, then just staggered back

:49:25.:49:30.

just a fraction. If you can do that, it leaves you your beautiful fluency

:49:30.:49:35.

that you have worked so hard to achieve. This is where the coach is

:49:35.:49:40.

very important. If they can see that the athlete is tight, not too much

:49:40.:49:45.

information, maybe just one instruction. If I was her coach at

:49:45.:49:51.

that stage, I would have been sent just relax. It is a hard thing to

:49:51.:50:01.
:50:01.:50:05.

put into practice. She does remind me, Philip Sidhu would, he couldn't

:50:05.:50:10.

seem to massive vacation early on in his career. It took awhile to learn

:50:10.:50:14.

his trade. Once he got there, he ended up being world champion.

:50:14.:50:24.

Hopefully that is a good sign for Sara Proctor. I love watching

:50:24.:50:30.

Britney Rees, because she doesn't have any technique! How dare you say

:50:30.:50:36.

that about a 7.25 metre jump! Her problem is inconsistency. She nearly

:50:36.:50:42.

didn't make it into the final. As you know, it only takes one jump.

:50:42.:50:50.

That was enough to win the competition. Consistency, she does

:50:50.:50:57.

manage to put together a good championship record. Yes, she is a

:50:57.:51:04.

strong jumper. Her technique is not pretty to watch, is it? We are used

:51:04.:51:10.

to seeing people like Carl Lewis, he is so beautifully fluent. These

:51:10.:51:14.

people have an enormous amount of natural talent with a huge amount of

:51:14.:51:22.

spring. There is that story of the American talking to the Russian who

:51:22.:51:31.

says I really like your style, but I love my distance better. Well, if

:51:31.:51:35.

someone would just get a hold of this young lady from Kenya, she

:51:35.:51:41.

could do wonders in this event. She is raw talents. She is strong,

:51:42.:51:47.

powerful, but when she gets in the air, it is just messy. She over

:51:47.:51:57.
:51:57.:51:58.

rotates, is not able to hold her upper body. She is a medallist at

:51:58.:52:08.
:52:08.:52:32.

the Olympics. I believe... One of the problems for Blessing Okagbare

:52:32.:52:38.

is that she is almost too quick on the long jump. Blessing Okagbare

:52:38.:52:48.
:52:48.:52:53.

almost seemed to see more discipline than Sara Proctor. That discipline

:52:53.:52:57.

bidder in a better position to plant of the board. Once she leaves the

:52:57.:53:03.

board, looks terrible. Going into it, it is pretty good. I don't know

:53:03.:53:08.

what your approach was to the run-up, but it is Mr different style

:53:09.:53:14.

of running, isn't it? You stride, then increase your cadence. It is

:53:14.:53:21.

power with control. The most important stride of those last five

:53:21.:53:28.

straight into the board. Blessing Okagbare does that really well. I

:53:28.:53:38.
:53:38.:53:46.

tried to generates speed, but also relax. I have never seen Shara

:53:46.:53:54.

Proctor do that Sprint position before, she drove out. I thought,

:53:54.:53:59.

why do that? Trust would you can do you don't change it. I was very

:53:59.:54:04.

surprised. She will learn from this. Let she said in interview, she

:54:04.:54:10.

will learn from it, her season isn't over. We will have bowed to the

:54:10.:54:16.

track, I think. We have the steeplechase. It is good morning to

:54:16.:54:26.
:54:26.:54:40.

Thankfully, not the weather we had last night. You might assume that

:54:40.:54:43.

amazing picture of Usain Bolt with the lightning bolt coming down in

:54:43.:54:50.

the background. I don't know if that were photo shop or not. Brendan

:54:50.:54:59.

doesn't know what photos shoppers! Yes, I do! Do know that one. We are

:54:59.:55:09.
:55:09.:55:10.

happy to look forward to these heats of the men steeplechase. So, we are

:55:10.:55:20.
:55:20.:55:41.

looking for a good shoe, in an event that they're pretty much owned in

:55:41.:55:45.

the next couple of -- in the last couple of years. James Wilkinson

:55:45.:55:49.

forbids Mogul in the second heat. Not only people in the stadium this

:55:49.:55:59.
:55:59.:55:59.

morning. -- James Wilkinson goes for Britain in the second heat. As you

:55:59.:56:04.

can see, the 3,000 metres steeplechase, the water jump on the

:56:04.:56:14.
:56:14.:56:17.

outside of the track, so they have just over seven laps. There is Abel

:56:17.:56:27.
:56:27.:56:29.

Kiprop Mutai, maybe not one of the best-known Kenyan steeplechasers. I

:56:29.:56:31.

was watching Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad in Paris on the

:56:31.:56:37.

Diamond Lake, he had at brave effort to trampy the magical it minute

:56:37.:56:44.

barrier. He was just outside of its. The home crowd, about 50,000

:56:44.:56:54.
:56:54.:57:00.

people, were wishing him to do that, but he didn't quite do it. There is

:57:00.:57:05.

the Russian, Ilgizar Safiullin, getting the home support. There is

:57:05.:57:15.
:57:15.:57:16.

the great Benjamin Kiplagat. Let's see if these efforts can get the

:57:16.:57:20.

best out of themselves this early in the morning! They just want to get

:57:21.:57:27.

over the first barrier safely. The normal -- they normally have a

:57:27.:57:31.

double barrier for the first one, don't they, are the only have one

:57:31.:57:37.

barrier here? Benjamin Kiplagat raced for that barrier on the

:57:37.:57:43.

outside. He handled it pretty efficiently. It has been really,

:57:43.:57:49.

really warm him -- warm here in the last couple of days. The distance

:57:49.:57:54.

runners run in the morning, running two sessions a day with the first

:57:54.:57:57.

one starting early in the morning. Some of them don't like racing in

:57:57.:58:01.

the morning. You have got to get used it, because that is what

:58:01.:58:11.
:58:11.:58:11.

happens. Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad, the Olympic

:58:11.:58:14.

silver medallist, giving them a bit of daylight at the back of the

:58:14.:58:22.

field. You can see the varying techniques over the water jump. Some

:58:22.:58:25.

of the Africans, especially when they are going at full speed, love

:58:25.:58:30.

to go straight over the barrier into the water without touching the

:58:30.:58:35.

barrier at all. Engine and the gap has said offered a really good speed

:58:35.:58:45.
:58:45.:58:45.

here. Maybe a few morning nerves for the Ugandan. He is reasonably

:58:45.:58:52.

experienced at this level. He was at the Beijing games as a 19-year-old.

:58:52.:58:56.

He is taking them off at a reasonable let here. Mahiedine

:58:56.:59:06.
:59:06.:59:13.

Mekhissi-Benabbad will mind. The Spaniards have been really cute in

:59:13.:59:23.
:59:23.:59:23.

this event over the years. Brendan, when you're in the first heat of

:59:23.:59:26.

three, I'm not sure Benjamin Kiplagat is doing yourself a

:59:26.:59:34.

favour, but he is giving others the chance of getting through with this

:59:34.:59:39.

six Steelers qualifiers gone through. He has the Olympic silver

:59:39.:59:44.

and bronze medallist in this race. There is only one real chance for

:59:44.:59:54.
:59:54.:59:58.

him, and that is the way he is seeing it. Yuri Floriani has decided

:59:58.:00:03.

to catch up with him. Benjamin Kiplagat is still pressing on. Yuri

:00:03.:00:13.

Floriani has decided that he wants to be safe, be comfortable. Two

:00:13.:00:20.

minutes and 44 seconds, that is a good speed. When you consider that

:00:20.:00:24.

Yuri Floriani's best is eight minutes and 32, you would wonder

:00:24.:00:28.

what he is doing going off so fast. This speed has stretched everybody

:00:28.:00:38.
:00:38.:00:43.

out. Benjamin Kiplagat, you can see him running a hard race. Benjamin

:00:43.:00:51.

Kiplagat is doing... If he had taken about at eight minutes and 20 speed,

:00:51.:00:57.

that would have been fine. He has gone out a lot faster than that.

:00:57.:01:04.

Yuri Floriani is tucked in behind him. He is pulling the talent to the

:01:04.:01:09.

front, he is doing his job. Abel Kiprop Mutai moving into second

:01:09.:01:14.

place, Mahiedine Mekhissi bidding into third place. Richard Kepler gap

:01:14.:01:20.

has done a job here, he is hurtling strongly, running strongly. The two

:01:20.:01:30.
:01:30.:01:30.

Olympic medallist are taking the natural place in this event.

:01:30.:01:34.

He is giving himself an insurance policy - he is running quick, and he

:01:34.:01:38.

is also running into position in the first three. The Spanish athletes

:01:38.:01:48.
:01:48.:01:49.

are moving up there, Mullera, years running well, too. This is the only

:01:49.:01:53.

event where the photographers, they normally stay at the finishing line,

:01:53.:01:59.

but for this event they cried round the track.

:01:59.:02:05.

I think they are after a car crash picture. None is so far. The

:02:05.:02:11.

Canadian runner, Matthew Hughes, he has how about -- is having a

:02:11.:02:21.
:02:21.:02:27.

cracking year so far. Mullera of Spain, Mutai, as they start to close

:02:27.:02:37.
:02:37.:02:39.

in on Kiplagat. They cannot relax because while Matthew Hughes and

:02:40.:02:42.

Mullera are there, they could easily go through this. I am not sure the

:02:42.:02:48.

other two heats of anyone who will take it as hard as this.

:02:48.:02:52.

Into the water jump, so far they are hurdling the bar straight into the

:02:52.:03:02.
:03:02.:03:03.

water, as you get tired sometimes you step on the bar. Floriani is

:03:03.:03:09.

fading away from that one, they are all safely through the water. Two

:03:09.:03:13.

laps to go. We're looking for the 2000 metres time, they must be

:03:13.:03:17.

through that now, we missed that one, it has not come up on the

:03:17.:03:23.

screen. With two laps to go, Kiplagat leads, Mullera in Spain --

:03:23.:03:31.

from Spain in second place. There is a group of five of them now, three

:03:31.:03:35.

places to take. This strong pace has continued in the second kilometre

:03:35.:03:40.

and they are giving themselves a chance of qualification,

:03:40.:03:50.
:03:50.:03:54.

qualification for the first three and the sixth fastest losers. Try it

:03:54.:04:01.

-- Luchianov getting onto that back three there, as well. They move into

:04:01.:04:11.

the penultimate negotiation of the water jump, safely over. There is

:04:11.:04:17.

still an opportunity here for six men. Luchianov is getting onto this

:04:17.:04:21.

back for. They are thinking, we have come this far. Matthew Hughes had

:04:21.:04:27.

has a great year and he looks really strong as they take the bell.

:04:27.:04:37.
:04:37.:04:38.

Matthew Hughes from Canada, 8.20 is his personal best. The two Olympic

:04:38.:04:42.

medallists are there, Kiplagat has faded away and Mullera still has a

:04:42.:04:46.

race to run. Hughes is really striking out, giving himself an

:04:46.:04:56.
:04:56.:05:01.

opportunity, as temp -- Mutai comes back. He is hurting committee is

:05:01.:05:08.

driving, you can see that. Mutai has just done enough and they come to

:05:08.:05:14.

the last water jump, he is over safely. The first three are clear of

:05:14.:05:22.

Mullera. It has been a fast, hard first round

:05:22.:05:32.
:05:32.:05:32.

race here. Hughes can relax. Mutai almost went down at that last

:05:32.:05:37.

barrier. Hughes is jogging across the line and we'll knock four

:05:37.:05:47.
:05:47.:05:47.

seconds of his personal best. Mutai holds on for third, Luchianov, they

:05:47.:05:54.

have every opportunity for fastest losers. Kiplagat will so have a

:05:55.:06:01.

chance, two more seats to come, you let it out at such a hard place. I

:06:01.:06:04.

am really impressed with the Canadian, you have to question

:06:04.:06:10.

whether he needed to go as hard on that last lap. He took it easy for

:06:10.:06:15.

the last 200m or so. He pushed really hard here. When you knock

:06:15.:06:19.

four seconds off your best and jog across the line he obviously has

:06:19.:06:26.

more in attack. It is a dilemma for an athlete of

:06:26.:06:31.

his ability. When he got to the bell he would have seen his time, and now

:06:31.:06:41.
:06:41.:06:45.

years relaxing. Mekhissi drifting towards the front. Into the

:06:45.:06:51.

finishing straight, 7.59. He could have taken a chunk of his personal

:06:51.:06:54.

best, and it is a dilemma for an athlete, because he has run faster

:06:54.:07:00.

than ever before, he has jogged over the finishing line, he has made a

:07:00.:07:10.
:07:10.:07:13.

personal best, but then he has to do it again. Look out quickly Mullera

:07:13.:07:16.

closes on Mutai. Both of them should have been more careful there, that

:07:16.:07:22.

was a little bit too close for comfort. Mekhissi breezes past

:07:22.:07:27.

Matthew Hughes and now he has to go away and do it all again, let's hope

:07:27.:07:31.

he can because he is clearly capable of running a lot faster than he did

:07:32.:07:36.

today. Hopefully he can do it in the final, that is where you would want

:07:36.:07:41.

to do it, but he will be happy with that, he is bound to be. This man,

:07:41.:07:45.

Mekhissi, is going to be a challenger, the Kenyan athlete we

:07:45.:07:48.

expected to dominate the expected to dominate the

:07:48.:07:51.

steeplechase. Beautiful style, beautiful technique over the

:07:51.:07:51.

beautiful technique over the barriers, powerful runner. Good

:07:51.:08:01.
:08:01.:08:03.

We have the better Kenyans to come, of course is a deal to end the --

:08:03.:08:12.

will be in the next race. Those times are fast, following on the top

:08:12.:08:22.
:08:22.:08:22.

three. Brett Morse going for a great

:08:22.:08:26.

Britain, second on the all-time list, behind Lawrence Okoye, who has

:08:26.:08:31.

turned his back on athletics to concentrate on American football.

:08:31.:08:38.

That is around 60 metres for Brett Morse, British champion this year

:08:38.:08:42.

under the tutelage of Andy Britton, his coach in Wales. The big

:08:42.:08:46.

Birchfield Harrier needs more. The top six at the moment are all over

:08:46.:08:51.

62 metres and we have another group to come, so I can't see anyone

:08:51.:08:58.

qualifying, really, if they have not thrown around 63. 59.23 his best so

:08:58.:09:04.

far. James Wilkinson goes for Great

:09:04.:09:09.

Britain in the next group of the 3000m steeplechase, let's hear from

:09:09.:09:19.
:09:19.:09:19.

3000m steeplechase, let's hear from I think it is all about development

:09:19.:09:24.

for me. I am 23 years old and hopefully I can maybe get a personal

:09:24.:09:30.

best out there. It depends on conditions and how it is running,

:09:30.:09:34.

but it is about learning how the runs go and trying to make the

:09:34.:09:39.

final, as well. It is an honour to get the steeplechase back

:09:39.:09:41.

represented in the team when we don't have many enduring skies,

:09:42.:09:49.

compared to other years, anyway. Describe the process of taking those

:09:49.:09:54.

barriers and having the Indian and slapped after lap. There is 35 of

:09:54.:09:56.

them, it is difficult getting used to that.

:09:56.:10:01.

In the stadium you have the people all around you and you can even see

:10:01.:10:05.

the barriers. You can practice all day long on the track on your own,

:10:05.:10:10.

but when you get there you cannot see the barrier until a split-2nd

:10:10.:10:17.

before. The first lap it seems like nothing, the last two laps they seem

:10:17.:10:27.
:10:27.:10:30.

Wilkinson, there he is in this second heat, sitting at the back,

:10:30.:10:35.

and it is an experience for him, because far closer to the front, we

:10:35.:10:40.

talk about the Kenyans reigning supreme. The man just in front of

:10:40.:10:46.

him is the king of them all, Ezekiel Kemboi. Evan Jager is there, as

:10:46.:10:50.

well, his blond hair bobbing along. The American may be able to get to

:10:50.:10:56.

the final but here is by no means certain of qualification. We talk

:10:56.:11:00.

about the fastest losing six, and that first heat was very quick. They

:11:00.:11:06.

knew what they had to do, it was a very quick heat, they have set down

:11:06.:11:13.

a good marker in that first heat. The first heat, very good times,

:11:13.:11:16.

they are jogging so far here. James Wilkinson wisely positioned itself

:11:17.:11:21.

so he can see the barrier on the outside. It is a learning experience

:11:21.:11:25.

coming to the World Championships and it is important for British

:11:25.:11:30.

distance runners to be represented in these events. If they don't get

:11:30.:11:35.

the challenges where are the incentives for the men training hard

:11:35.:11:41.

all year round? James Wilkinson has that chance. Qualification is tough,

:11:41.:11:45.

first three, then six fastest losers, but then can he do a

:11:45.:11:50.

personal best? We have just seen Matthew Hughes of Cameron -- Canada

:11:50.:11:55.

make a personal best, hopefully James can do similar. He is only 23

:11:55.:11:58.

years old, he could have a long career ahead, it is important this

:11:58.:12:03.

is a positive experience for him. Talking about experience, we have

:12:03.:12:08.

the man in front of him who is twice the world champion, twice Olympic

:12:08.:12:15.

champion, Ezekiel Kemboi. He is someone to try and learn from.

:12:15.:12:19.

Wilkinson won the UK Championships. Luke Gunn has been the UK's

:12:19.:12:23.

strongest steeplechase runner for a while, but he took some time out

:12:23.:12:27.

after failing to qualify for the Olympics. He got married to Hannah

:12:27.:12:34.

England, as well. James Wilkinson stepped in, took his UK title, he

:12:34.:12:38.

did not get the a standard for qualification, but as Brendan was

:12:38.:12:46.

saying, given the chance to compete here.

:12:46.:12:56.
:12:56.:12:56.

One place ahead of him, Ezekiel Kemboi, the Olympic champion, as

:12:56.:12:59.

Gari starts a move through the field. James Wilkinson will have to

:12:59.:13:04.

start making a move through these athletes. The pace is clearly slower

:13:04.:13:07.

than the first round so qualification at this pace would be

:13:07.:13:12.

difficult in terms of fastest losers, because there was a fair few

:13:12.:13:19.

running a good time. 2.52 for the first 1000m. That is comfortably

:13:19.:13:22.

within James's range, he should be strong at that pace. He should now

:13:22.:13:32.
:13:32.:13:34.

be able to gather a little bit of confidence, feeling good and looking

:13:34.:13:36.

to get in amongst these athletes. You're starting to move through,

:13:37.:13:39.

coming on the outside, it gives you a good view of the barrier, jostling

:13:39.:13:44.

for position there. Just bide your time, James, on the outside. Into

:13:44.:13:49.

the street, now it is about running hard. Gari on the inside of him, the

:13:49.:13:59.
:13:59.:14:00.

other Canadian, Genest ahead of him. James is running well now.

:14:00.:14:07.

He is running well in the middle of things, steady in that first heat --

:14:07.:14:11.

slower than that first heat when Kiplagat went out ahead of them and

:14:11.:14:16.

set the pace, running like English Gardner, running hard. He's in a

:14:16.:14:23.

good position at the moment, James Wilkinson, any dissident -- decent

:14:23.:14:33.
:14:33.:14:53.

finish in this field would be something to take back and build on.

:14:53.:14:59.

We need to find some 1,500m runners, give them the chance to train over

:14:59.:15:08.

the barriers. This steeplechase tours are the poor relations. -- it

:15:08.:15:18.
:15:18.:15:19.

is 22 years since we had is an athlete for Britain have a really

:15:19.:15:25.

good, world competitive time. We need cultures to start getting some

:15:25.:15:35.
:15:35.:15:43.

of her 1,500m runners to aim for have done well at this event in the

:15:43.:15:50.

past, but it largely false to the East Africans night. The French have

:15:50.:16:00.
:16:00.:16:13.

now. It has real talent around him. Jane should be capable of running at

:16:13.:16:20.

this speed, to this time. He has to start putting down a marker. Two

:16:20.:16:28.

laps to go. He is thinking about running hard to the finish, and he

:16:28.:16:34.

will have two. He said he wanted our personal best, but this is looking

:16:34.:16:44.
:16:44.:16:45.

tough for him. If there is a character in this event in the whole

:16:45.:16:50.

world, it has to be Ezekiel Kemboi. He already would be in the argument

:16:50.:17:00.
:17:00.:17:03.

for the greatest runner of the steeplechase of all time. He has

:17:03.:17:09.

Roberto Alaiz with life at the back. He needs to get going. Will he get

:17:09.:17:19.
:17:19.:17:24.

through as one of the six fastest losers? We were talking about the

:17:24.:17:32.

French pedigree in this event, and there is Noureddine Smail. James

:17:32.:17:37.

Wilkinson is trying to bridge the crap from the second group up to the

:17:38.:17:41.

first grip. He is still running strongly. Noureddine Smail from

:17:41.:17:50.

France leads. Watch Ezekiel Kemboi, I'm sure he will put on some kind of

:17:50.:17:55.

shoe. He will try to win this one. James has just gone through the

:17:56.:18:02.

motions night. He is finding it really difficult. Ezekiel Kemboi is

:18:02.:18:09.

being challenged night. There we go, Ezekiel Kemboi, the defending

:18:09.:18:19.
:18:19.:18:36.

group will go through. The Canadian trying to go through. That was a

:18:36.:18:40.

stumble from Noureddine Smail. That could cost them! He has gathered his

:18:40.:18:46.

lament. Those first three go through automatically. Noureddine Smail

:18:46.:18:52.

comes through for third place. James Wilkinson coming across the line.

:18:52.:18:59.

will not be a personal best for James Wilkinson. That is a bit

:18:59.:19:05.

disappointing. This was his chance. It was his opportunity to run a

:19:05.:19:08.

personal best. You give soccer chants, but physically he wasn't

:19:08.:19:17.

capable. There they go, Noureddine Smail on the inside. There was the

:19:17.:19:22.

Olympic champion, Ezekiel Kemboi. He is being challenged by Evan Jager.

:19:22.:19:32.
:19:32.:19:32.

Noureddine Smail looks across. All three of them are safely over. Now

:19:33.:19:37.

into the finishing straight. Neither tartness starts to set in.

:19:37.:19:44.

Noureddine Smail is in third place. You could see the stumble by

:19:44.:19:49.

Noureddine Smail and it cost him a little bit of time. Noureddine Smail

:19:49.:19:55.

just keeps it going, gathers and sob again. Ezekiel Kemboi was on the

:19:55.:20:01.

outside, ready to do. Very impressive performance by Evan

:20:01.:20:07.

Jager. He has been really impressive since he moved up from the 1,500m.

:20:07.:20:13.

Noureddine Smail was really lucky he didn't fall. Evan Jager is a good

:20:13.:20:20.

athlete. If there is a British athlete who might not be at the top

:20:20.:20:25.

echelon at a certain distance but might do what Evan Jager did,

:20:25.:20:35.
:20:35.:20:37.

convert the steeplechase. There is James Wilkinson just coming in. The

:20:38.:20:42.

fastest losers will properly come from the first heat as it was a fast

:20:42.:20:52.
:20:52.:21:00.

ahead of Ezekiel Kemboi. Noureddine Smail did well to come in third

:21:00.:21:10.
:21:10.:21:11.

after stumbling over the last this big global stage? It was

:21:11.:21:17.

tough. A great experience. It was lucky that my heat was the slower of

:21:17.:21:26.

the two so far. When the sheets came out I thought they are done well,

:21:26.:21:30.

less competitors than everybody else, to great competitors in my

:21:30.:21:39.

race. The first part of the race was too slow. I could see them moving

:21:39.:21:43.

member decided to back it up, but it is hard when everyone is jostling

:21:43.:21:49.

for position all the time. I have never been in a race when they are

:21:49.:21:52.

so many people on edge, basically. They are all trying to get the

:21:52.:21:59.

inside lane into the barrier. I give it a go. A .35 is OK, not a

:21:59.:22:09.
:22:09.:22:09.

disaster. I know you wanted a personal best. But that is all part

:22:09.:22:19.

of the learning curve. I have to learn what to do to qualify for

:22:19.:22:27.

finals and from there. I tried is, or thought about, making it fast for

:22:27.:22:31.

myself. That might have been suicidal. I probably would not

:22:31.:22:36.

finished any higher than I did. It is all about learning what I need to

:22:36.:22:39.

do and coming away positive and wanted to come back in progress.

:22:39.:22:49.
:22:49.:23:11.

men's discus. Here is Robert Urbanek, the Polish number two. That

:23:11.:23:21.
:23:21.:23:27.

could be really close to the 65 major qualification line. I think it

:23:28.:23:32.

is fair to say that Brett Morse will make it, he has just gone over the

:23:32.:23:38.

50m line. I think Robert Urbanek will go through as one of the top 12

:23:38.:23:48.
:23:48.:23:55.

performers. So, there we have the situation. Robert Harting leading

:23:56.:24:01.

the way, he has won just about everything. There you can see Brett

:24:01.:24:05.

Morse. I don't think Brett Morse will take any further part in this

:24:05.:24:15.
:24:15.:24:17.

competition. We have had one fast, and another

:24:17.:24:24.

middling heat. It'll be interesting to see what tactics employed here. I

:24:24.:24:34.
:24:34.:24:37.

think this is the big future for Kenyan steeplechasing here.

:24:37.:24:47.
:24:47.:24:50.

Conseslus Kipruto is the world junior champion. Paul Kipsiele Koech

:24:50.:25:00.
:25:00.:25:23.

selectors. This young man has all the attributes. For France,

:25:23.:25:27.

Conseslus Kipruto was a really good 1,500m runner, and then moved up to

:25:27.:25:33.

the steeplechase. So, there are years, the former world junior

:25:33.:25:43.
:25:43.:25:43.

champion, Conseslus Kipruto. I think is of running under eight minutes.

:25:43.:25:46.

There is Paul Kipsiele Koech. He wins for fun sometimes on the

:25:46.:25:51.

Diamond league circuit. He is a bronze medallist from the leopards

:25:51.:26:00.

back in 2004. He can't run at altitude. He does not do well at the

:26:00.:26:06.

trials, but they decided to keep faith with him. I think that is a

:26:06.:26:10.

good decision by the Kenyan team management, not that the always make

:26:10.:26:20.
:26:20.:26:31.

good decisions, but I think that is slowly, and his team-mate the

:26:31.:26:37.

opposite, racing to the first barrier. Let's hear the all

:26:37.:26:46.

negotiated safely. Everybody is over OK. We always see a double barrier

:26:46.:26:50.

for the first barrier because there is such a big fields. It would be a

:26:50.:26:58.

bit unfortunate if you didn't get to the barrier, you could be pushed off

:26:58.:27:06.

to the side and be disqualified! Can you have dominated this event for

:27:06.:27:16.
:27:16.:27:17.

many years. It'll be interesting to see Paul Kipsiele Koech, the third

:27:17.:27:23.

fastest man of running the steeplechase of all time. It is

:27:23.:27:28.

interesting that he can't run at altitude. He is at the back of the

:27:28.:27:32.

field, getting the nerves out of the system. The Kenyan selectors have

:27:32.:27:38.

stayed with him, and I think that is wise. It is not a big gamble in the

:27:38.:27:41.

steeplechase, because they have about three others who could do

:27:41.:27:50.

well. Conseslus Kipruto is looking over his shoulder. Paul Kipsiele

:27:50.:28:00.
:28:00.:28:07.

Koech has moved into fourth place, into third place now. Tarik Langat

:28:08.:28:15.

Akdag used to run from Kenya, Nye runs for Turkey. -- is now running

:28:15.:28:23.

for Turkey. If you're keeping an eye on your stopwatch for the sixth

:28:23.:28:33.
:28:33.:28:46.

fastest losers, it will be anything than they did in the first heat.

:28:47.:28:54.

This guy, Conseslus Kipruto, for me, they had an embarrassment of

:28:54.:29:03.

riches at the junior championships. They have to run so fast to win the

:29:03.:29:07.

world junior title. He is so much ability. I liked the way he runs, he

:29:08.:29:17.
:29:18.:29:33.

is a nice looking runner. Goodspeed Kipruto off the track in the Diamond

:29:33.:29:37.

league this year. It wasn't very nice to see because Ezekiel Kemboi

:29:37.:29:44.

is the elder statesman of Kenyan running, in the steeplechase anyway.

:29:44.:29:50.

He did apologise afterwards. He did expect the elder statesman to

:29:50.:29:59.

encourage the youngster. This young man, Conseslus Kipruto, the junior

:29:59.:30:04.

world champion, he sees the steeplechase as the opportunity to

:30:04.:30:11.

travel the world winning records. In Britain, the steeplechase, the

:30:11.:30:15.

distance runners turn away from it. They will do anything but the

:30:15.:30:21.

steeplechase, don't they, Steve? It is a hard event. You have to have a

:30:21.:30:25.

really good background. We have plenty of good people with good

:30:25.:30:33.

endurance background and Goodspeed. We have Mark Rowlands. We had three

:30:33.:30:43.
:30:43.:30:52.

men in the final in 1983. That's the standard for British distance

:30:52.:30:57.

runners, but you would not they suggested him to try this one!

:30:57.:31:01.

He has a lot of challenges in his life, he is supposedly going to be

:31:01.:31:06.

racing against Usain Bolt, there is going to box against Amir Khan, he

:31:06.:31:11.

is supposed to be playing football for Arsenal, all we want him to do

:31:11.:31:16.

is to come here and win the gold medal!

:31:16.:31:22.

He is a big star in British and world athletics, and it is

:31:22.:31:26.

inevitable he keeps getting asked to do these things. I am not sure that

:31:26.:31:30.

race against Usain Bolt will ever happen, it would be nice to see it,

:31:30.:31:39.

but... Anyway, Kipruto has moved up to fourth place. Sebastien Marcos of

:31:39.:31:49.
:31:49.:31:50.

Spain just on the inside. The pace has picked up, Kowal is maybe

:31:50.:31:56.

sensing that. What do you think of the French strip, you are a bit of a

:31:56.:32:06.
:32:06.:32:09.

fashion an adult, -- aficionado, dark blue? I quite like it!

:32:09.:32:14.

Anyway, it has been interesting that Kipruto has been happy to be at the

:32:14.:32:21.

front, Koech taking his opportunity well. Top three, don't forget, and

:32:21.:32:26.

the pace they are going here, still opportunities with two laps to go,

:32:26.:32:29.

there are plenty of men that have a chance to go through as fastest

:32:29.:32:39.
:32:39.:32:44.

losers. Tarik Langat Akdag moving up, as well. They are running fast,

:32:44.:32:48.

there are many fast qualifiers. There are positions available, they

:32:48.:32:53.

are not too fast. Lick out the difference in that technique, the

:32:53.:32:57.

way that young Kipruto goes over the barriers. The Frenchman, Kowal,

:32:57.:33:07.
:33:07.:33:09.

looking strong. Paul Kipsiele Koech should looking good. He has not done

:33:09.:33:14.

any favours, that young man, you would have thought he would have

:33:14.:33:23.

given him a bit of a breather! Haven't is a need, just at the back

:33:23.:33:32.

of that group, there, the Moroccan. Tarik Langat Akdag has MIDI,

:33:32.:33:39.

surprisingly, 's has surprisingly may be moved away from this top

:33:39.:33:46.

group. Don't forget, I said anything under 8.25 would be good enough.

:33:46.:33:52.

There they go on the last lap, the competition really starts. Koech has

:33:52.:33:56.

not been in front yet, but there he goes, this is a chance. They are

:33:56.:34:04.

stretching already and the gap begins to open. Kipruto has done all

:34:04.:34:09.

the work, I don't see why you should let him past now. But they are doing

:34:09.:34:12.

it together, cooperating. They are talking to each other, settling

:34:12.:34:16.

down, the information from the young man, the pretender. That was pretty

:34:16.:34:21.

good, that was pretty comfortable. He is keeping an eye out what is

:34:21.:34:27.

going behind, both over the barrier, one with a foot on, one

:34:27.:34:32.

straight over, and they have a fairly comfortable qualification.

:34:32.:34:35.

Yes, they don't want to be silly, they sprinted out that hurdle and

:34:35.:34:45.
:34:45.:34:46.

almost had a stumble. Kowal is celebrating already. Watch that

:34:46.:34:55.

time, hammered Issey Neet will definitely got through, -- Amit Izzy

:34:55.:35:05.
:35:05.:35:10.

Neet -- Hamid Ezzine is definitely through. Fairly cut and dried, these

:35:10.:35:15.

two with the likes of Mutai, Evan Jager running well, and the Canadian

:35:15.:35:23.

run was pretty well, as well, in that first heat. For Kenyans through

:35:23.:35:29.

to the final, young Kipruto did all the work, orchestrated proceedings

:35:29.:35:38.

on the last lap. He was telling Paul Kipsiele Koech should what is going

:35:38.:35:46.

on. -- Paul Kipsiele Koech Schwab is going on. I think this young man is

:35:46.:35:49.

going to get in amongst them, I think he will have a chance of a

:35:49.:35:57.

medal. Koech, the third fastest steeplechaser of all time, now given

:35:57.:36:01.

a chance in the championships, he has not been selected for a while

:36:01.:36:11.
:36:11.:36:13.

because of his inability to run the trials in Kenya. Kipruto, 18 years

:36:13.:36:23.

old, good performance, he knows what he is doing, and a good performance

:36:23.:36:29.

by Kowal of France. Ezzine has a chance to go through as one of the

:36:29.:36:34.

fastest losers. Remember the name of Kipruto, I think we will see him in

:36:34.:36:42.

the final. The first three fairly clear and ten

:36:42.:36:46.

three will go through as fastest loser, but nobody else from that

:36:46.:36:51.

third heat. That is the unofficial results, we will try and get the

:36:51.:36:54.

fastest losers for you once they have gone through the official

:36:54.:37:03.

JONATHAN EDWARDS: You have to love watching the Kenyans steeplechase,

:37:03.:37:08.

plenty more great action to come this morning.

:37:08.:37:12.

The hurdling maybe other slightly better nature when we see Dai Greene

:37:12.:37:17.

take to the track, the defending champion. It is the heats of the

:37:17.:37:21.

400m hurdles. Watch out for the Americans, there are always tough in

:37:22.:37:26.

this event. Perri Shakes-Drayton, what a season for her so far after

:37:26.:37:36.
:37:36.:37:38.

Proctor last eight in the long jump, but no such disappointment on the

:37:38.:37:43.

first day of the championships from Mo Farah. Brendan Foster has caught

:37:43.:37:47.

up with the newly crowned 10,000m world champion.

:37:47.:37:51.

It was definitely a hard race, I may be the favourite but sometimes that

:37:51.:37:57.

makes it even harder because you feel all of that pressure.

:37:57.:38:00.

You originally nervous yesterday, and the first couple of laps you

:38:00.:38:04.

were at the back, that has become a trademark. I was really nervous, so

:38:04.:38:09.

I aimed to start at the back and work my way through, get closer to

:38:09.:38:14.

the guys with 5k to go. Sometimes in a race when it is hard you don't

:38:14.:38:17.

need to go straight to the front and kill yourself, just gradually worked

:38:17.:38:24.

your way through. To be honest, I thought the Ethiopian guys at the

:38:24.:38:29.

race would be a lot faster. I stayed towards the back a bit and worked

:38:29.:38:34.

together to close the gap towards the end.

:38:35.:38:41.

All the way, your race tactics were, slow when it is...

:38:41.:38:49.

-- the slower it is... The better for me. He is looking, he

:38:49.:38:52.

is his wing man, his lieu tenant and he has him there with 600 metres to

:38:52.:39:02.
:39:02.:39:07.

It is now every man for himself. I was surprised there were not more

:39:07.:39:11.

men in there, then with 500 metres to go Jeilan was making a move

:39:11.:39:15.

coming up the outside. With one lap I still saw him behind, so I was

:39:15.:39:20.

thinking, Gore hard year. Make sure you have something left because I

:39:20.:39:30.

did not want to make the same mistake as I did in Daegu. I was

:39:30.:39:35.

just thinking, he is there. I was looking at him, thinking, he is

:39:35.:39:39.

coming, but I was stronger, so I was able to push and push and push and

:39:39.:39:46.

push. Jeilan comes again! How determined

:39:46.:39:50.

where you? He was definitely coming past, it

:39:50.:39:54.

was just like, no, I have waited two years for this, everything is on the

:39:54.:39:58.

line. This is world domination for Mo

:39:58.:40:02.

Farah, he is world champion! What do we have to look forward to,

:40:02.:40:06.

the heats of the 5000m? You will not look forward to that.

:40:06.:40:12.

No. I will just wait, qualify, recover and hopefully get ready for

:40:12.:40:16.

the final, but I think the final will be quite exciting. Let's have a

:40:16.:40:22.

chat with Steve Cram, a wonderful performance from Mo, and in that

:40:22.:40:25.

interview you got an idea of how much fat lost two years ago hurt

:40:25.:40:30.

him. Yes, because he went as a bit of a

:40:30.:40:33.

favourite to win that, and when you come in as a favourite it is

:40:33.:40:36.

different, as you know, it is something different to content

:40:36.:40:39.

with. He thought he had it right and when

:40:39.:40:44.

you do all the things you think you need to do in a race and someone

:40:44.:40:47.

passes you on the home straight it can set in a lot of self-doubt. He

:40:47.:40:53.

had a period, I remember talking to him after that 10,000m in Daegu and

:40:53.:41:02.

saying, you did not do too much wrong, it was a question of timing,

:41:02.:41:05.

you have all the attributes you need you just need to going to the 5000m

:41:05.:41:08.

and execute differently. That is the great thing about Mo Farah these

:41:08.:41:10.

days, he is brilliant now about going into big races and doing

:41:10.:41:14.

exactly what he needs to do to win. The question is, I am sure you are

:41:14.:41:19.

going to ask me this, when we look at the 5000m, again, is anyone going

:41:19.:41:23.

to do something to make him have to rethink his tactics, make him do

:41:23.:41:28.

something different? I am not sure anyone in the 10k was capable of

:41:28.:41:35.

it, 5000 is perhaps different. We chatted about it yesterday, do

:41:35.:41:40.

you think they would have been? In Mo Farah's mind that he was not as

:41:40.:41:46.

sharp over the last 500 metres as he would have expected? I think he was

:41:46.:41:49.

a little surprised at how difficult the race was, I think the conditions

:41:49.:41:54.

have had a bearing on that. It has changed today, some athletes

:41:54.:41:58.

have been talking about how heavy the air is and all of the athletes

:41:58.:42:03.

were really tired in that 10,000m. That is another reason, perhaps,

:42:03.:42:08.

quite nobody was able to do anything. Given everything we have

:42:08.:42:11.

seen from Mo the time was not as impressive as we would have thought,

:42:11.:42:19.

but it was what was required to win. When it comes to the 5000m it is not

:42:19.:42:22.

about saying, what will the last lap the? It is pointless second guessing

:42:22.:42:26.

that, he has to run the last lap to win the race. He had it three or

:42:26.:42:31.

four weeks ago, he will still have that, he just needs to recover from

:42:31.:42:36.

that 10,000m. He will be going through all the processes he went

:42:36.:42:39.

through in London, he will have a hypoxic tent, all of the guys

:42:39.:42:46.

looking after him, he acclimate is to the heat and he will move to what

:42:46.:42:52.

will be a tough final. There was talking about the Kenyans running in

:42:53.:42:58.

the 5000m rather than the 10,000m, hoping to take the sting from him in

:42:58.:43:02.

the 5000m, will they have taken heart from what they saw?

:43:02.:43:08.

Well, they would have looked at last that macro that last lap and

:43:08.:43:13.

thought, is Mo a little bit off now? Inevitably, they are looking for

:43:13.:43:20.

things to grasp and give the athletes confidence. At the

:43:20.:43:24.

beginning of the year we could have argued Mo was not prepared for an

:43:25.:43:29.

early race, they will look back to that, as well. There are plenty of

:43:29.:43:34.

others, you got the likes of Bernhard Langer, everywhere you look

:43:34.:43:39.

there are dangerous athletes in that 5000m that is not the same in the

:43:39.:43:46.

10,000m. Mo will have to be at his best, he will have to execute his

:43:46.:43:49.

race in a place that gets him where he wants to be, finally gets to the

:43:49.:43:54.

bell he will have to execute in the last lap. It is up to the others to

:43:54.:43:57.

try and make him do something different, changed his tactics and

:43:57.:44:02.

maybe not allow him to control things as he tends to in the last

:44:02.:44:08.

two laps. We will look forward to the 5000m heats and good luck to Mo,

:44:08.:44:11.

even though he does not like the mornings.

:44:11.:44:13.

We are looking at the 400m hurdles, Dai Greene comes as defending

:44:14.:44:18.

champion but not with the best build-up. It has been awful for him,

:44:19.:44:23.

let's be honest. From his injuries to illness, when

:44:23.:44:27.

you up world champion and all you are trying to do is hold onto your

:44:27.:44:30.

title, with all these other obstacles coming your way it is so

:44:30.:44:36.

frustrating and it will be so tough out there. Let's hear from Dai

:44:36.:44:46.
:44:46.:44:46.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:44:46.:45:45.

Greene and the other British competitors. It was quite a

:45:45.:45:52.

breakthrough year. I see these people on television,

:45:52.:46:02.
:46:02.:46:04.

and idolise them. It is fantastic. I always wanted bit more. I will have

:46:04.:46:14.
:46:14.:46:15.

to run every single round as the final. I'm a surprise myself. I know

:46:15.:46:24.

I'm capable of running quicker. one has really set the Starlight in

:46:24.:46:28.

the 400m hurdles and been dominant all season. Everyone has had their

:46:28.:46:34.

ups and downs. Of the leaf I can run to the best of my ability I will be

:46:34.:46:42.

in with a chance again. A strong trio. Sebastien Collins is

:46:42.:46:48.

the one that we don't know much about. We know he has the ability to

:46:48.:46:55.

win big races when he is under pressure. This is a very different

:46:55.:47:00.

ball game as there is talent all around. The 400 metre hurdles remain

:47:00.:47:07.

is going to be tough. There is no outstanding favourite. The races

:47:07.:47:11.

have not been particularly fast either. I think that if -- perhaps

:47:11.:47:16.

to the frustrations of Dai Greene. He would build he was anywhere near

:47:16.:47:22.

his best he would be a world leader, but he spent all of his summer

:47:22.:47:26.

struggling and trying to regain his form. It is a real opportunity for

:47:26.:47:31.

this man to really get some experience and shine. In terms of

:47:31.:47:36.

his expectations for this season, he would have targeted the under 23

:47:36.:47:42.

championship. This would've a bonus. This would've been an absolute

:47:42.:47:48.

bonus. There is nothing to lose when an athlete steps up to where the

:47:48.:47:57.

senior vest. He is a tidy the -- he is a tidy hurdler, he is fresh. He

:47:57.:48:04.

will be looking to see how you can do against this. The world leader is

:48:04.:48:14.
:48:14.:48:30.

only entries are let's see how he wonderful progression. The first

:48:30.:48:35.

formal go through, and the fourth fastest from the heats will go

:48:35.:48:39.

through. It is incredibly difficult when this is your first taste of

:48:39.:48:48.

this event. It is a morning, not too many people in the stadium, lots

:48:48.:48:55.

going on around you. There are a few British fans, as ever, following the

:48:55.:49:01.

athletes around the world. He is up against the number one in the world

:49:01.:49:11.
:49:11.:49:19.

this year, Michael Tinsley. Michael Tinsley will be in lane three. This

:49:19.:49:29.
:49:29.:49:36.

hurdlers, Dai Greene has had all sorts of problems, but will be

:49:36.:49:41.

interesting to see how he performs. Rhys Williams is pretty shape.

:49:41.:49:51.
:49:51.:49:53.

Sebastian Rodger progressing all of the time. 50.50 last year, and this

:49:53.:50:01.

year Harry has combined to 49.19. Want to start running under 49

:50:01.:50:07.

seconds, things become a bit easier. He will want to make sure that he

:50:07.:50:17.
:50:17.:50:17.

comes in the top four, runs a good solid race. He has Cornel Fredericks

:50:17.:50:27.
:50:27.:50:52.

had in the under 23 group and move it up to the senior competitions? It

:50:52.:50:58.

is the American leading at the moment. He is already up to Cornel

:50:58.:51:03.

Fredericks. Sebastian Rodger will have to have a good home stretch

:51:03.:51:13.
:51:13.:51:15.

here. Sebastian Rodger has a fight on to get into the top four. Look at

:51:15.:51:22.

the young Russian, Timofey Chalyy! Sebastian Rodger might have just got

:51:22.:51:29.

it. Sebastian Rodger holds his head as if to say, I am not sure what is

:51:29.:51:35.

going on. He seemed to start OK, but lost his way in the middle of the

:51:35.:51:40.

race. He finished strongly enough. He was perhaps quite fortunate that

:51:40.:51:46.

the others faded around Tim. Did he get it, he might have done? He might

:51:46.:51:56.
:51:56.:52:06.

Sebastian Rodger. We knew that Cornel Fredericks was going to be

:52:06.:52:15.

really strong. This is when he realises what he has to do. He

starts to do it. Cornel Fredericks would've been the man in his sights.

:52:21.:52:30.

The first four to go through. Have a look at this on the line. On our

:52:30.:52:34.

side you would think he got up, but the computer says otherwise. They

:52:34.:52:44.
:52:44.:52:47.

have given the verdict to Cornel Fredericks. It looks as though he

:52:47.:52:57.
:52:57.:52:58.

had made it. Cornel Fredericks did not get as well as he did. 49.66. He

:52:58.:53:02.

is going to have a very anxious wait now. It'll be interesting to hear

:53:02.:53:12.
:53:12.:53:20.

qualification. I know. I felt good. I'm feeling good today. I let people

:53:20.:53:26.

get away from your the top bend, which is frustrating. When we talked

can, it will be a dream. If I get to the semifinals, as he would I can

:53:42.:53:48.

do. I knew I would need a personal best to do its. How big a step up is

:53:48.:53:55.

this from the under 23 competition? Huge. This is the world

:53:55.:53:59.

Championships. If I spoke to people at the start of the year and said I

:53:59.:54:03.

would be here, they wouldn't have believed that. It is great to be

:54:03.:54:08.

better -- it is great to be part of the team. I just wanted to do better

:54:09.:54:13.

than that, really. If I was the British team, I would ask to have a

:54:13.:54:18.

look that bad. It is obviously very close. It is the chest who decides

:54:18.:54:24.

that. On first look, you would think he got bad. They have given the

:54:24.:54:30.

verdict Cornel Fredericks. He will have to wait and see. It will be

:54:30.:54:37.

anxious. Good call from Steve Cram there. I

:54:37.:54:41.

think the British team should have a closer look at that is, that, but

:54:41.:54:46.

dinner protest. They will have to blow up the photofinishing really

:54:46.:54:52.

study it. Yesterday in the men's hundred metres, the Frenchman got

:54:52.:54:57.

through by 1000th of a second of the Chinese athlete. They have an

:54:57.:55:01.

opportunity to blow it up and really dissect it. Whether he goes through

:55:01.:55:08.

or not, think you did well. I do. It is not easy making the transition.

:55:08.:55:14.

He ran well and I thought it was a solid performance. It would be a

:55:14.:55:19.

shame for him not to make it through. He talked about losing them

:55:19.:55:24.

on the top end. It looked as if he made a bit of a mistake coming of

a bit of a mistake, , proper. seems to go around the barrier with

his lead leg, a bit. You want back quick snap dying, but he goes down.

:56:10.:56:15.

You tend to go around the barrier when the hurdle is very close to

:56:16.:56:25.
:56:26.:56:50.

you. It is quite a lazy way of doing Takayuki Kishimoto is the Japanese

:56:50.:56:58.

champion. Has not done well at the big events, but it is a very, very

open event. For ever in a headband, Javier Culson. He got the bronze at

:57:04.:57:14.
:57:14.:57:48.

up again. One of the starters is coming to have a little words. I'm

:57:48.:57:52.

not sure who with. Maybe one of the other officials. It is quite busy

:57:52.:58:01.

down there, with the heptathlete women. During the steeplechase, I

:58:01.:58:09.

don't know if you saw but one of the high jump competitors had her

tailpipes measuring her run-up and almost got hit by the men running

:58:14.:58:24.
:58:24.:58:29.

notification to the field. Javier Culson has plenty of major

:58:29.:58:37.

championship experience is not fazed by any of this. Takayuki Kishimoto

:58:37.:58:42.

has false started before at a major championship. That is quite a feat

:58:42.:58:47.

in the 400 hurdles. Javier Culson is certainly one to watch and should be

:58:47.:58:54.

fairly comfortably through. We need to watch the time for the fastest

:58:54.:59:04.

will try to be steady, nothing there for the fourth automatic

:59:58.:00:08.
:00:08.:00:11.

place. The time is good news for Sebastian Rodger. There was a bad

:00:11.:00:15.

fall on the top bands, and the medical staff have been really slow

:00:15.:00:25.
:00:25.:00:33.

to get out. Jacques Frisch took a terrible tumble. It was interesting

:00:33.:00:37.

to see L.J. Van Zyl out there, but of -- but he hasn't really been

:00:37.:00:47.
:00:47.:01:07.

running that well. Javier Culson is five there in contention, but Javier

:01:07.:01:13.

Culson just slowing down. This is good news for Sebastian Rodger, he

:01:13.:01:21.

will be one of the fastest losers out of these first two heats.

:01:21.:01:26.

really stands out in these hurdles. I think Michael Kinsley looks

:01:26.:01:31.

strong. I think that is what is the straight into Dai Greene, if he

:01:31.:01:35.

didn't have as injuries he could have a really good shot at defending

:01:35.:01:41.

his medal. I think Javier Culson will have a really good chance for a

:01:41.:01:51.
:01:51.:01:57.

medal. Twice all the medallist at League in New York and it is always

:01:58.:02:03.

held around Puerto Rico day. I could not believe the amount of support,

:02:03.:02:08.

he is phenomenal. It would be great if he could come and win the gold

:02:08.:02:18.
:02:18.:02:27.

medal. Safely three. -- safely The second event in the heptathlon

is well underway now. Temporarily the best high jumper. A gentle entry

:03:07.:03:13.

into this heptathlon high jump competition. Katarina Johnson

:03:13.:03:17.

Thompson is also one of the best high jumpers. It should be good

:03:17.:03:27.
:03:27.:03:37.

is the silver medallist from 2010. He finished fifth last year in

:03:37.:03:44.

London which was a big surprise to everybody. He spins that two

:03:44.:03:51.

kilograms disc, way beyond the 65 metre mark. His coach must be

:03:51.:03:59.

pleased with that. First attempt. He qualifies easily. Activity hotel and

:03:59.:04:04.

he can relax. He is in the final tomorrow and he faces Robert

:04:04.:04:09.

Harting, of course, the defending champion. They are archrivals. It

:04:10.:04:13.

should be a good dustup between the two and one or two other throwers as

:04:13.:04:23.
:04:23.:04:28.

well. Just two automatic qualifiers from the previous group. He joins

:04:28.:04:38.
:04:38.:04:46.

them, he is in the final. Martin Wierig now. Ashton Eaton is a

:04:46.:04:50.

spectator here today. He is watching his wife in the win in's epitaph

:04:50.:05:00.
:05:00.:05:22.

lawn. And swelling the crowds in the thought he would have liked to be in

:05:22.:05:29.

that heat. And even with Kerron Clement and Sanchez who are in

:05:29.:05:33.

consistent performers, Sanchez in particular in his last race look

:05:33.:05:36.

really out of sorts. Given the way the young Russian ran in the first

:05:36.:05:46.
:05:46.:05:51.

heat, he is 21-year-old, could be danger. One of the emotionally

:05:51.:05:54.

charged moments of the Olympic Games in London last year when Felix

:05:54.:06:02.

Sanchez came through to win that gold medal. Eight years after doing

:06:02.:06:09.

it in 2004 in Athens. It was an incredible race. Rhys Williams,

:06:09.:06:13.

after disappointments last year, has really got himself together. He is

:06:13.:06:23.
:06:23.:06:23.

having a great season so far. He will have to be really on good form.

:06:23.:06:27.

He has been consistent this year. He will attack it from laying three. He

:06:27.:06:37.

has got Kerron Clement, effectively third fastest man here. Tinsley tops

:06:37.:06:47.
:06:47.:06:59.

the world rankings. What about of Jamaica. A good start. Felix

:06:59.:07:05.

Sanchez has started very quickly down the back straight. Sanchez

:07:05.:07:09.

setting the pace here but Williams is moving nicely through the first

:07:09.:07:19.
:07:19.:07:28.

place at the moment but inside him is Kerron Clement of the USA. There

:07:28.:07:35.

are chances for everybody. Williams in a qualifying place. Sanchez wins

:07:36.:07:40.

it. Then Kerron Clement, then Annsert Whyte and Rhys Williams

:07:40.:07:49.

holding off the Russian. For Rhys Williams, that was job done. He had

:07:49.:07:59.
:07:59.:07:59.

to come in the top four. There are questions over Sanchez' fitness.

:07:59.:08:02.

Rhys Williams did well. He was always going to come under pressure

:08:03.:08:10.

from Clement inside him but he held it together. I left out Felix

:08:10.:08:14.

Sanchez as one of the contenders because he started the season late.

:08:14.:08:17.

He is slowly getting better. Rhys Williams has finally got over all

:08:17.:08:27.
:08:27.:08:28.

his injuries. He has been improving his personal best. Felix Sanchez, we

:08:28.:08:32.

thought the Olympic gold-medal might be his last flicker of a great flame

:08:32.:08:37.

but he is suddenly looking like a great contender for the title here

:08:37.:08:47.
:08:47.:08:50.

as well. His form has been gradually building. The good news is for Rhys

:08:50.:08:57.

Williams that he has one of those automatic qualifying places. I know

:08:57.:09:00.

Colin is watching this. What did you make of Rhys? Did that looked like

:09:00.:09:07.

hard work? It's always going to be hard work at this time of the

:09:07.:09:12.

morning unless you are a sub 48.5 man. Williams will have to push

:09:12.:09:18.

himself continuously to get up there and be within striking distance of

:09:18.:09:21.

the top guys. He is one of these runners who can really maximise when

:09:21.:09:27.

people make mistakes. He is a consistent runner. He gets into his

:09:27.:09:33.

rhythm quickly. If he is there or thereabouts you can literally

:09:33.:09:37.

guarantee he will haul himself into a qualifying position and he has

:09:37.:09:42.

managed to do that this morning. For me, it is a job well done. It is all

:09:42.:09:52.
:09:52.:10:01.

Looking at it on the replay, it did not look great. How did you feel on

:10:01.:10:07.

the start line? I felt fine on the start line. Not particularly pleased

:10:07.:10:11.

with that but I will have to do well tomorrow night when it really

:10:11.:10:15.

matters. You said it was an ideal preparation and then you came to the

:10:15.:10:19.

championships and had a race like that, what do you do now when you go

:10:19.:10:26.

away? I try not to dwell on it. The main thing is I am three. Let's see

:10:26.:10:36.
:10:36.:10:40.

tomorrow. We will see you there. news for Seb Rodger who is the

:10:40.:10:50.
:10:50.:11:05.

World Athletics Championships. This -- this event was won by one of the

:11:05.:11:15.
:11:15.:11:23.

get from the crowd. Moses rises. Lee is going strongly. Phillips has gone

:11:23.:11:31.

well. And Moses is flowing beautifully. He is bringing blasts

:11:31.:11:38.

from the crowd. Here's 34-macro yards up. He has overtaken Damien

:11:38.:11:48.
:11:48.:11:53.

leave. It is a one-man race already. Moses is flying. Andrei Phillips has

:11:53.:12:03.
:12:03.:12:04.

been overtaken. The West German has come back. He ran half the race with

:12:04.:12:14.
:12:14.:12:23.

Sheer class. Amazing. That was 47.48 in Lane two with his shoelace and

:12:23.:12:33.
:12:33.:12:34.

done. What I was looking at was the sleekness of his hurdling technique.

:12:34.:12:40.

He broke that 10th barrier as if it was the third barrier. Faultless

:12:40.:12:45.

hurdling and running supreme. class. The next team has an American

:12:45.:12:50.

in it as well. Bershawn Jackson was world champion in 2005. I am not

:12:50.:13:00.
:13:00.:13:21.

thought for poor Roald Harald moment, no outstanding athlete in

:13:21.:13:24.

the 400 hurdles survey chance for someone like Bershawn Jackson who

:13:24.:13:29.

missed out in qualifying for the London Olympics. Here is Leford

:13:29.:13:39.
:13:39.:13:59.

Green. He was a finalist last year first round of the men's 400m

:13:59.:14:09.
:14:09.:14:31.

Bershawn Jackson, but he does tend to finish strongly. He is not a big

:14:31.:14:37.

man but he has tremendous stamina. The tall figure in the green from

:14:37.:14:47.
:14:47.:14:52.

Senegal taking them out. Bershawn Jackson will bide his time.

:14:52.:14:56.

Sebastian Rodger is looking good to go through as one of the fastest

:14:56.:15:00.

losers. Mamadou Kasse Hanne will come through to take it with Leford

:15:00.:15:04.

Green, Bershawn Jackson and coming down the inside, Jeffrey Gibson of

:15:04.:15:14.
:15:14.:15:36.

Sebastian Rodger. Bershawn Jackson almost strolling through. Because of

:15:36.:15:42.

the way he races, it sometimes looks as if he is taking it easy, but the

:15:43.:15:46.

dissolved about stride Padron's. He doesn't really changes race plan.

:15:46.:15:56.
:15:56.:16:01.

Mamadou Kasse Hanne has done well on the circuit this year. Yasuhiro

:16:01.:16:05.

Fueki really put paid to his chances by clattering into one of the

:16:05.:16:12.

hurdles. Bershawn Jackson table just the easy cross the line. Good news

:16:12.:16:22.
:16:22.:16:26.

for Sebastian Rodger, still in a fastest loser spot. I don't think we

:16:26.:16:36.
:16:36.:16:38.

have seen anybody impress incredibly. Let's just hope that Dai

:16:38.:16:48.
:16:48.:16:54.

Greene can negotiate his way to a lot slower than Sebastian

:16:54.:17:04.
:17:04.:17:24.

can see Brianne Theisen Eaton on the high jump now. Brianne Theisen Eaton

:17:24.:17:34.
:17:34.:17:39.

safely over. That is the commentators kiss of death for

:17:39.:17:44.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson, this is normally is something she could do

:17:44.:17:52.

in her sleep. She is much better than that. A tentative start at the

:17:52.:17:55.

high jump for Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who is in seventh

:17:55.:18:05.
:18:05.:18:05.

place after the hurdles. Ashton eaten, that the and champion and

:18:05.:18:10.

world record holder, too. The greatest all-round athlete in the

:18:10.:18:18.

world. And his wife do the same as he did a couple of days ago?

:18:18.:18:28.
:18:28.:18:40.

for Dai Greene. What will be his approach? I think he will be

:18:41.:18:45.

watching Jehue Gordon really closely. That was a surprise

:18:45.:18:49.

victory, but I think Dai Greene will be looking at him, wondering what he

:18:49.:18:59.
:18:59.:19:01.

needs to do. Sebastian Rodger, we have just heard, will make it

:19:01.:19:11.
:19:11.:19:13.

through to the semifinals. I think you will be a very happy young man!

:19:13.:19:17.

He needs the patterns up on the back. He worked really hard. He

:19:17.:19:23.

needs to go back, get some rest, and evaluate what he needs to do for the

:19:23.:19:30.

following race. As for Dai Greene, if you come here as defending world

:19:30.:19:40.

champion, the attention is focused on you. No defending champion wants

:19:40.:19:45.

to have to go through the process that Dai Greene has had to go

:19:45.:19:50.

through. You want to be at the top of your game, defend your title

:19:50.:19:56.

strongly. But he is a battler, he knows he is here to do a job. People

:19:56.:20:03.

do it to the best of his physical ability. Whatever he Dawes, this'll

:20:03.:20:13.
:20:13.:20:24.

wouldn't be here. He has to just deal with the cards he has got. He

:20:24.:20:34.
:20:34.:20:34.

just has to be competitive. We knew Difficult time for the defending

:20:34.:20:44.
:20:44.:20:48.

champion. He will be wondering what he can produce here. The last 34

:20:48.:20:55.

weeks has been very difficult for him. He has Takatoshi Abe inside

:20:55.:21:05.
:21:05.:21:06.

him. Sebastian Rodger will definitely go through because there

:21:06.:21:11.

are only seven athletes in this race. Even if three of them were

:21:11.:21:15.

quick enough, he still leads the fastest leaders -- fastest losers,

:21:15.:21:23.

so he will definitely go through. Dai Greene has to be able to get

:21:23.:21:29.

round safely. This is a rhythm event. He hasn't been able to get

:21:29.:21:34.

into the rhythm because he has not been hurdling. What a big win it was

:21:34.:21:40.

for Jehue Gordon in Monaco! He is rediscovering the kind of form that

:21:40.:21:50.
:21:50.:21:50.

saw him as a precaution talent at 17. He had 48 seconds flat in

:21:50.:21:56.

Monaco! That is him second on the world list this year behind Michael

:21:56.:22:06.
:22:06.:22:36.

Kinsley of the USA, he was in the stay with Jehue Gordon. He looks

:22:36.:22:44.

fairly relaxed, is hurtling well. It is the second part of the race were

:22:44.:22:51.

a lack of preparation may come to tell. Isa Phillips is trying to get

:22:51.:22:57.

back into the race after hitting a hurdle. Dai Greene is going well so

:22:57.:23:07.
:23:07.:23:08.

far. He is acquitting himself well. He is starting to look tired. Can he

:23:08.:23:18.
:23:18.:23:19.

get there? Dai Greene is death! Quick enough, I think. It looked

:23:19.:23:23.

like the world champion, but the lack of fitness, the lack of

:23:23.:23:28.

preparation, when you get into the last two or three flights, that is

:23:28.:23:33.

when you feel it. When you really want to be able to dig into the

:23:33.:23:38.

well, but there is nothing there. I think he will go through as a

:23:38.:23:41.

fastest loser, I have a fingers crossed. Ultimately, no hiding

:23:41.:23:51.
:23:51.:23:52.

place. It is from this point on that the lack of preparation starts to

:23:52.:24:01.

tell. Not able to do the training. You can see him gritting his teeth.

:24:01.:24:06.

From this point here, with his usual that this, he would be able to kick

:24:06.:24:11.

on, perhaps even the ease dying. Jehue Gordon is looking very good,

:24:11.:24:20.

as is Isa Phillips. We expecting just about to go through. I can

:24:21.:24:26.

confirm he will go through. Colin Jackson, probably what we expected?

:24:26.:24:32.

It is exactly what we expected it to be. He will always be fluent, but

:24:32.:24:42.
:24:42.:24:45.

when you haven't got the work in your legs it will be very difficult.

:24:45.:24:51.

This event is known as the man killer, so if you're not 100% it is

:24:51.:25:01.
:25:01.:25:03.

really hard. He will work hard of every barrier. At this stage he can

:25:03.:25:07.

start to feel the pressure. He knows people are closing down on him and

:25:07.:25:10.

he will people are closing down on him at the pressure. He knows people

:25:10.:25:19.

are closing down on him and he will has to work so hard. That may be

:25:19.:25:24.

enough to see him through. Dai Greene is defending world champion,

:25:24.:25:34.
:25:34.:25:40.

but that -- but that was tough even The bad news is you did not have the

:25:40.:25:44.

preparation you wanted coming back to the centre title. I haven't been

:25:44.:25:48.

able to train so much since the trials because of my calf problem. I

:25:48.:25:54.

think the sort -- I think I saw the end of that midweek last week. I

:25:54.:25:59.

haven't done much hurdling and it shouldn't today. I was ill at the

:25:59.:26:09.
:26:09.:26:10.

weekends as well, so it didn't do what I would be able to produce. I

:26:10.:26:15.

spent all day in bed on Saturday. They had to do some sort of training

:26:16.:26:22.

on Sunday. It is not ideal preparation, by any stretch, but you

:26:22.:26:26.

got to do the best you can, really. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel more

:26:27.:26:34.

well it. -- I will feel more with it. This is the man killer, this

:26:34.:26:44.
:26:44.:26:44.

event, you need to be so fit. the heats are difficult. I was

:26:44.:26:49.

shattered coming not the home straight. It is quite a wide open

:26:49.:26:56.

event, so I hope I can do better tomorrow. Have a good rest. All the

:26:56.:27:06.
:27:06.:27:09.

very best. He is very tired. He explained not

:27:09.:27:16.

just the injury problems, but he was not well, either. He is through. I

:27:16.:27:26.
:27:26.:27:30.

am assuming that is a disqualification. Eric Alejandro has

:27:30.:27:40.
:27:40.:27:57.

been the -- has been disqualified, Johnson-Thompson. Safely on the

:27:57.:28:02.

board as far as points are concerned. Hopefully she will take a

:28:02.:28:07.

little bit of satisfaction from that, and confidence as well as the

:28:07.:28:13.

bar continues to progress upwards. Good response by Katarina

:28:14.:28:23.
:28:24.:28:25.

Johnson-Thompson after her first would put something that build his

:28:25.:28:30.

confidence, we have the reverse, really. It is a difficult time. We

:28:30.:28:40.
:28:40.:28:42.

want our athletes to be having lots of time in preparation. He has

:28:42.:28:46.

suffered this all season. He has had no continuity, either in this

:28:46.:28:54.

technical work, or he just doesn't have the energy because he is

:28:54.:28:58.

exhausted because he is picked double zero this. We are not making

:28:58.:29:04.

excuses, it is just fact. It is difficult battle against the best in

:29:04.:29:09.

the world when you're those circumstances. It is a two-year

:29:09.:29:14.

turnaround for him, two years of struggles. These are the decisions

:29:14.:29:20.

athletes have to face. Do you come here as defending world champion,

:29:20.:29:28.

knowing you have been injured for so long? How does he feel if he doesn't

:29:28.:29:32.

hit the heights that he would like to achieve? He will have a target,

:29:32.:29:40.

which is to make the final. How will he feel if you doesn't reach his

:29:40.:29:45.

targets? It is tough. We can take a quick look to confirm exactly who

:29:45.:29:55.
:29:55.:30:05.

into who has run what. When we go to the next round, the semifinal stage,

:30:06.:30:12.

there will be mix and match. People will be all over the place. Once we

:30:12.:30:15.

can see the semifinalist come through we can really start to

:30:15.:30:20.

dissect it and say this is possibly what could happen for the final.

:30:20.:30:25.

mentioned getting in touch through Twitter. There are a few tweets

:30:25.:30:30.

coming through. I had delegated this to Mr Jackson. Have you got your bit

:30:30.:30:39.

of paper? Come on! The first one is to Denise Lewis. He says, who do you

:30:40.:30:49.
:30:50.:30:54.

think would be the lead in the stage. High jump is one of the

:30:54.:30:58.

breakers for the heptathlon. We have the likes of Johnson-Thompson in

:30:58.:31:02.

there. But if you are feeling slightly off that can have a

:31:02.:31:06.

detrimental affect on your performance and your overall score.

:31:06.:31:13.

I am going to have to sit on the fence, I am afraid! Oh, Denise! We

:31:13.:31:18.

are not going to let you get away with that. No sitting on the fence,

:31:18.:31:28.
:31:28.:31:29.

a name. OK, I am going to go for Rhiannon Theisen-Eaton from Canada.

:31:29.:31:39.

-- Brianne. This is to Jonathan Edwards. This is looking ahead to

:31:39.:31:46.

Friday's triple jump, what are your expectations. Obviously, I hope they

:31:46.:31:51.

don't job too far! That apart, Christian Taylor as defending world

:31:51.:31:57.

champion and Olympic champion is always a contender. Teddy Tango is

:31:57.:32:06.

the maverick in triple jump. Can I ask you about the young Cuban boy.

:32:06.:32:13.

He will not quite do it. One last tweet, Lorraine Campbell says all of

:32:13.:32:18.

you are looking like a union Jack when you are put together. Which

:32:18.:32:28.
:32:28.:32:29.

country? Which country? That is orange! Don't adjust your television

:32:29.:32:35.

sets. Next on track is the women's 400m hurdles. Meghan Beesley is

:32:35.:32:42.

going in this one. The lesser-known of the athletes we have got. Even

:32:42.:32:47.

though Meghan has run reasonably well, again, it is about gaining

:32:48.:32:54.

experience. This is what we want for our young athletes. She is only 23

:32:54.:32:59.

and this is a big occasion for her. I am excited to see what kind of

:33:00.:33:04.

performance she can produce under the circumstances. It is great that

:33:04.:33:09.

we have a full showing in this event. Let's see how she goes.

:33:10.:33:14.

Here's another one is looking at the event round by round to see how she

:33:15.:33:18.

can go. It is hurdles all the way this morning. Steve, it is all

:33:18.:33:28.
:33:28.:33:30.

shoulder and you cannot blame her. There are some good athletes in this

:33:30.:33:36.

heat. Georganne Moline of the USA and Kaliese Spencer, on form they

:33:36.:33:46.
:33:46.:33:48.

might be the ones you would look to. Only three will go through. There

:33:48.:33:53.

are only two semifinals. The men have three semifinals. There is

:33:53.:33:58.

Georganne Moline. Second in the American Championships and very

:33:58.:34:08.

consistent this year. Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica, for that the

:34:08.:34:13.

Olympic Games and at the last two World Championships as well. Will

:34:13.:34:17.

this be a change for her? Meghan Beesley then with a really tough

:34:17.:34:27.
:34:27.:35:05.

it and treat it like a final. And not to worry about the other

:35:05.:35:15.
:35:15.:35:27.

athletes who have a bigger did explode out of the blocks. She

:35:27.:35:32.

has got a good start. Lee Spencer and Georganne Moline also started

:35:32.:35:42.
:35:42.:35:46.

well. -- Kaliese Spencer. She stumbles. She has got to concentrate

:35:46.:35:51.

now. Spencer in the lead from Georganne Moline. Meghan Beesley is

:35:51.:35:57.

still involved in this. Denise Ross of Arla is starting to come to it.

:35:57.:36:05.

And there is Georganne Moline gone. Drama in this first round. Meghan

:36:05.:36:11.

Beesley has a real chance here. Got to be strong in the home straight.

:36:12.:36:19.

Spencer is jogging here. The top three to go through. Spencer takes

:36:19.:36:29.
:36:29.:36:31.

first, Denise Ross of Arla -- Denisa Rosolova is second and Meghan

:36:31.:36:41.
:36:41.:36:53.

Beesley. Yes, a great run. It might seem like a thin but it throws your

:36:53.:37:03.
:37:03.:37:04.

stride pattern when you stumble. She does not panic. The race was always

:37:04.:37:10.

likely to be won by Kaliese Spencer after what happened to Georganne

:37:10.:37:16.

Moline. She clipped it. A very strong run from Meghan Beesley. Some

:37:16.:37:24.

impressive after clipping that hurdle earlier. This is no mean

:37:24.:37:27.

achievement to go through. Another clip of the hurdle from Meghan

:37:27.:37:34.

Beesley but finishing strongly. was not far off her personal best

:37:34.:37:38.

and that has got to augur really well for Meghan Beesley. This is

:37:38.:37:46.

Georganne Moline, head Trail leg on the way down. She had been running

:37:46.:37:51.

very comfortably. She is in such good form. She is one of the more

:37:51.:37:57.

popular nice members of the American team. That is devastating for her.

:37:57.:38:01.

The Americans would have been hoping for a good performance from her in

:38:01.:38:06.

the final but she will not be in the final now, obviously. For Kaliese

:38:06.:38:16.
:38:16.:38:19.

Spencer, really brave performance. thought her chances were gone but as

:38:19.:38:25.

Andrew said, she did not panic. When she looks back at this and things, I

:38:25.:38:30.

had just run 55.45 after hitting the third hurdle down the back straight,

:38:30.:38:35.

who knows what she might have done out of lame eight? She did

:38:35.:38:40.

brilliantly well. She clipped that one as well. She is obviously tired

:38:40.:38:48.

at this point. Having to dig really deep here. She goes through to the

:38:48.:38:58.
:38:58.:39:01.

more than one hurdle but the key was staying on your feet and staying in

:39:01.:39:09.

contention. Yes, so happy to get an automatic qualifier. I was a bit

:39:09.:39:15.

scared of the back straight, hurdle three, I thought I was going down.

:39:15.:39:18.

Did it benefit you in some ways being in lane eight, you could focus

:39:18.:39:25.

on what you had to do? I think so. In my first world juniors I was in

:39:25.:39:28.

the outside lane and I fell over then as well so I feel like it is

:39:28.:39:34.

the same. What about the overall preparations, coming out early and

:39:34.:39:38.

being on this World Championships stage? I tried not to think about it

:39:38.:39:41.

too much. There are quite a few Brits along so you can hear them

:39:42.:39:46.

cheering your name which is quite cool. You hit for hurdles and posted

:39:46.:39:51.

that time, what you think you can do in the next round? I just want to

:39:51.:39:57.

hit a clean race and get a PB. luck with it. Thank you for talking

:39:57.:40:07.
:40:07.:40:16.

disqualification for Kaliese Spencer on my computer. We will get that

:40:16.:40:26.
:40:26.:40:35.

Drayton. If that qualification is correct, with Georganne Moline out

:40:35.:40:41.

and Kaliese Spencer out, it all goes well for Perri Shakes-Drayton.

:40:41.:40:46.

Kaliese Spencer who won that and was perhaps one of the medal contenders

:40:46.:40:56.
:40:56.:41:05.

first round heat that you can expect. Perri Shakes-Drayton goes in

:41:05.:41:15.
:41:15.:41:16.

the third heat. She waits. We have talked about the open nature of the

:41:16.:41:24.

men's hurdles, but in the women's event the main contender is is a

:41:25.:41:32.

Hejnova who goes in lane eight. She was a bronze medallist in London and

:41:32.:41:41.

unbeaten this year. -- Zuzana Hejnova. She is head and shoulders

:41:41.:41:45.

above the rest. She should go through here comfortably and may

:41:45.:41:49.

well be the favourite for the gold medal. Nothing can be taken for

:41:49.:41:59.
:41:59.:42:05.

from the crowd in lane three. There is Christine Spence, third in the US

:42:05.:42:15.
:42:15.:42:30.

heat. There is Zuzana Hejnova. She has the season 's best and personal

:42:30.:42:35.

best just outside 53 seconds. She came third in the Diamond League

:42:35.:42:44.

meeting in Brussels last September. It is about doing it in the biggest

:42:44.:42:49.

Championships of them all. And avoiding the pitfalls that have

:42:49.:42:59.
:42:59.:42:59.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:42:59.:43:46.

happened so far for some big hand up and was not happy. I do not

:43:46.:43:51.

know if there was some noise down there but she put her hand up. You

:43:51.:43:56.

can do that if there is a legitimate reason for it. The starters marksman

:43:56.:44:00.

is jogging across now to find out what the reason was. Explain

:44:00.:44:10.
:44:10.:44:39.

chatting to Nickiesha Wilson as with the defending champion,

:44:39.:44:45.

Lashinda Demus, in the next heat. There is Zuzana Hejnova, the

:44:45.:44:55.
:44:55.:45:20.

outstanding athlete in this event Odumosu has a very good excuse, she

:45:20.:45:27.

could well be out here. She is a very experienced athletes, our

:45:27.:45:36.

Commonwealth champion. In lane one. It is a warning. That is a false

:45:36.:45:44.

start. Avoid eye contact! You think she has got away with that. She

:45:44.:45:52.

really has got away with that. Let's have a closer look. They have been

:45:52.:45:57.

called into the set position, then she moves out. That is very

:45:57.:46:07.
:46:07.:46:11.

generous. Usual extra life wisely, Muizat Ajoke Odumosu! Messy old

:46:11.:46:21.
:46:21.:46:52.

first-round heat, the first three go cannot survive again. Muizat Ajoke

:46:52.:46:59.

Odumosu. She will have to wait for the official dismissal. That is just

:46:59.:47:09.
:47:09.:47:10.

ridiculous, isn't it? She has got away with it once. You feel for her,

:47:10.:47:17.

but it is the 400 hurdles, there is no need for that. She is an

:47:17.:47:20.

experienced athlete, I am not sure what has happened to her this

:47:20.:47:25.

morning. We have all these antics with the green card, the yellow

:47:25.:47:32.

card, the red and black card. She obviously false started. She did get

:47:32.:47:40.

away with that first time. I'm not sure she looked too keen to race

:47:40.:47:46.

there. Twice the African champion, Nigerian record-holder, Muizat Ajoke

:47:46.:47:56.
:47:56.:48:07.

Odumosu, she goes. Back to the with all this silliness. Three to go

:48:07.:48:17.
:48:17.:48:35.

this, but Christine Spence is trying to make her impression. Very strong

:48:35.:48:45.
:48:45.:48:49.

start by Christine Spence. The crowd is trying to carry along Anastasia

:48:49.:48:59.
:48:59.:49:03.

Ott. Nickiesha Wilson T is starting to struggle. Christine Spence is

:49:04.:49:12.

starting to fade just a little bit. Christine Spence has to be careful.

:49:12.:49:16.

Christine Spence is going to be run out of this! That did not go

:49:17.:49:23.

according to plan! It is not going according to plan for the

:49:23.:49:32.

Americans. She is the favourite to win the gold medal in this event,

:49:32.:49:38.

and she has just joined wide, Zuzana Hejnova. She changed her coach and

:49:38.:49:43.

says a lot of improvement is down to that. She has always been a good

:49:43.:49:49.

hurdler, but she has this event really sorted now. It is very hard

:49:49.:49:59.

to run easy in the 400m. With a stripe patterns, you have got to

:49:59.:50:05.

make sure you don't get it wrong. Look how relaxed Zuzana Hejnova is.

:50:05.:50:11.

Compare her to Christine Spence. She is under pressure and the American

:50:11.:50:15.

starts to go backwards. She doesn't come off that last hurdle with any

:50:15.:50:25.
:50:25.:50:26.

momentum. Nickiesha Wilson catches up at her. When you lose momentum,

:50:26.:50:33.

you will get it back. Zuzana Hejnova is just completely relaxed. Perri

:50:33.:50:43.
:50:43.:50:43.

Shakes-Drayton to come. Perri Shakes-Drayton will be looking to

:50:43.:50:53.
:50:53.:50:54.

qualify as easily as Zuzana Hejnova did. Christine Spence may still be

:50:54.:51:04.
:51:04.:51:26.

States. She is safely over. Sharon Day is lying in eighth place, she is

:51:26.:51:36.
:51:36.:51:40.

behind Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Brianne Theisen Eaton clears it

:51:40.:51:47.

again. She will figure highly in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next

:51:47.:51:57.

year. How much did that first failure at 1.74 and settle Katarina

:51:57.:52:06.

Johnson-Thompson? She is over! That looks much better from her. 1.77

:52:06.:52:13.

metres. As the knees Lewis was saying, this is where big points can

:52:13.:52:23.
:52:23.:53:02.

through. He has gone. I wonder that is the end of an era? So, here are

:53:02.:53:12.
:53:12.:53:32.

Victor Hogan. Brett Morse from the UK does not go through.

:53:32.:53:42.
:53:42.:53:44.

Perri Shakes-Drayton in the next heat of the women's 400m hurdles.

:53:44.:53:51.

Inside her she has the Olympic champion from Russia, outside her

:53:51.:54:01.
:54:01.:54:15.

she had the defending world is Natalya Antyukh in? I saw her in

:54:15.:54:22.

the first race of the season, she finished dead last. She has only one

:54:22.:54:27.

-- she has only run one race since then. Perri Shakes-Drayton has been

:54:27.:54:37.
:54:37.:54:45.

in fantastic form with a recent personal best. Neither Georganne

:54:45.:54:51.

Moline has gone right, she is looking to Lashinda Demus. Lashinda

:54:51.:54:56.

Demus is not the apogee was two years ago. Every opportunity for

:54:56.:54:58.

Perri Shakes-Drayton as the qualification for this event

:54:58.:55:08.
:55:08.:55:12.

continues. Don't forget, Kaliese Spencer is also white. What will we

:55:12.:55:22.
:55:22.:55:47.

get from Lashinda Demus? The Olympic quickly. Just rising first. Natalya

:55:47.:55:50.

Antyukh has started as quickly as Perri Shakes-Drayton. Lashinda Demus

:55:50.:55:56.

leads at the moment. Perri Shakes-Drayton started out nice and

:55:56.:56:02.

calmly, just concentrating on the top three. Natalya Antyukh has gone

:56:02.:56:07.

the first -- gone through the first section pretty quickly. Perri

:56:07.:56:11.

Shakes-Drayton has some work to do here. We know she will be good in

:56:11.:56:21.
:56:21.:56:27.

the home straight. Natalya Antyukh is starting to fade. Perri

:56:27.:56:32.

Shakes-Drayton comes after last hurdle really well. Lashinda Demus

:56:32.:56:37.

takes second, Natalya Antyukh takes third. That is the quickest we have

:56:37.:56:42.

seen so far. Perri Shakes-Drayton, and sure there will be a sigh of

:56:42.:56:47.

relief that that went well. She really didn't know what Lashinda

:56:47.:56:51.

Demus Natalya Antyukh were going to do. She sought Tracy hitting a

:56:51.:56:55.

hurdle coming into the home straight. She executed her race

:56:55.:57:03.

really well. We didn't know what to expect from Lashinda Demus there. It

:57:03.:57:06.

was a good run from Perri Shakes-Drayton. This was a really

:57:06.:57:13.

high quality first round. Tracy was going well until she clipped the

:57:13.:57:16.

hurdle coming into the home straight. Perri Shakes-Drayton

:57:16.:57:26.
:57:26.:57:37.

remained focused and a very strong Shakes-Drayton. Lashinda Demus is

:57:37.:57:40.

not the force she was, by the force she was, but a definite confidence

:57:40.:57:50.
:57:50.:57:52.

booster to get past her. Colin Jackson, what about Natalya

:57:52.:58:01.

Antyukh? Just her third race of the year. Will she be a threat? I don't

:58:01.:58:06.

think so. She looked very strong done the back straight. Coming into

:58:06.:58:14.

the home straight, it looks like she is lacking form. She is ring rusty.

:58:14.:58:22.

I don't think she is in great physical shape. 400m hurdles is an

:58:22.:58:26.

offence that you have to really ease yourself into, learn how to master

:58:26.:58:31.

your event. I think Perri Shakes-Drayton is learning how to

:58:31.:58:37.

handle these rounds. That is the confidence that comes from taking on

:58:37.:58:43.

the best in the world on a regular basis. She has one big victories,

:58:43.:58:49.

said some personal bests. The majority of the runners will be

:58:49.:58:55.

watching her. Come the final, it will be a good one for her. She is

:58:55.:59:05.
:59:05.:59:11.

champion on the other, didn't faze you at all! When I go into a race I

:59:11.:59:21.
:59:21.:59:22.

ignore what the other girls are doing. I have no control over that.

:59:22.:59:29.

I'm taking every race as it comes. I feel good. Is this the most

:59:29.:59:35.

confident you've ever brought into major championship? Not really. I am

:59:35.:59:41.

busy. Mentally stronger. I have learnt from my previous world

:59:41.:59:48.

Championships. I have a lot of experience. I am trying to use that

:59:48.:59:53.

to do what they have to do. What kind of thing is really cool between

:59:53.:59:59.

today and tomorrow? I will sleep, eat, and ice bath, take care of the

:59:59.:00:09.
:00:09.:00:27.

was then that slow motion. She said she cannot take control of other

:00:27.:00:35.

people's races. You have to take control and look at your lane and

:00:35.:00:39.

say, I know these girls are good but what is key to my race to make sure

:00:39.:00:45.

I am the person who crosses the line first or qualifies easily. I think

:00:45.:00:49.

she is in that mindset now. She thought she would qualify for the

:00:49.:00:54.

finals but she did not do it last year. She knows it has to be round

:00:54.:01:00.

by round, run the way I know how to run. Her hurdling is looking better

:01:00.:01:04.

and she is mentally strong. She has had enough practice this season to

:01:04.:01:09.

know she is in the right frame of mind up and she is ready. She is in

:01:09.:01:16.

the right frame of mind. That is two British athletes through. Meghan

:01:16.:01:23.

Beesley went through earlier. Now we have Eilidh Child in lane one. This

:01:23.:01:30.

is not a great draw for her, is it? It is not a great draw but she is

:01:30.:01:37.

showing great form. She has had a great indoor season. She is from the

:01:37.:01:41.

same stable as Dai Greene but she has had a completely contrasting

:01:41.:01:47.

season. She will be lining up here, feeling very confident in her

:01:47.:01:57.
:01:57.:02:05.

ability. Andrew is talking us make amends of some poor American

:02:05.:02:14.

performances so far. And Irina Davydova as well the Russian. There

:02:14.:02:21.

is Irina Davydova, the Russian champion this year and she takes the

:02:21.:02:31.
:02:31.:02:35.

acclaim. European champion last year. It is a cramped lane for lane

:02:35.:02:44.

one. You see it all in front of you. No surprises. We have had two

:02:44.:02:48.

disqualifications for a lead leg infringements, for Kaliese Spencer

:02:48.:02:52.

and Christine Merrill. It usually happens in the first couple of

:02:52.:03:00.

barriers. It is something to watch out for. Those lane draws are

:03:00.:03:10.
:03:10.:03:45.

important but the first couple of lane five sets out well. Anna

:03:45.:03:51.

Yaroshchuk and in Reno Deva Dover as well. Eilidh Child off to a steady

:03:51.:04:01.
:04:01.:04:03.

start in lane one -- Irina Davydova. The Canadian clipping the barrier

:04:03.:04:09.

there as Child sneaks around inside. Dalilah Muhammad out in front, just

:04:09.:04:18.

about. Child will be in an increasingly good position. They

:04:18.:04:28.
:04:28.:04:28.

come down the home straight. Three to go through automatically. The

:04:28.:04:35.

women to complete the trio will be in Reno gathered over. Victory goes

:04:35.:04:40.

to Dalilah Muhammad but child is safely through. -- Eilidh Child is

:04:40.:04:47.

safely through. Nothing she could do but run that hard. You cannot relax

:04:47.:04:57.
:04:57.:04:57.

in lane one. I was watching the Russian. A really ragged race from

:04:57.:05:05.

her. Dalilah Muhammad would have been the target for Eilidh Child.

:05:05.:05:11.

She is a nice hurdler. On that inside lane knows that the stager is

:05:11.:05:15.

going to unwind and bring her into contention in the home straight.

:05:15.:05:20.

There are two women ahead of her. She knows she cannot relax in the

:05:20.:05:25.

home straight. At this point, she probably realises she is in for

:05:25.:05:34.

qualification. She is strong over the last hurdle. And then relaxes a

:05:34.:05:38.

little bit in the last 15 metres. Her eyes were very set on the finish

:05:38.:05:44.

line. No surprises there. We had a few in the first round of the

:05:44.:05:47.

women's 400m hurdles but the good news is all three British women have

:05:47.:05:53.

gone through. Yes, Meghan Beesley went through first of all, then

:05:53.:05:58.

Perri Shakes-Drayton and now Eilidh Child. There have been some

:05:58.:06:05.

ingesting moments and disqualifications and falls. All

:06:05.:06:08.

that avoided by Eilidh Child who looks composed and controlled all

:06:08.:06:12.

the way through that. She was running in lane one which is never

:06:12.:06:16.

the easiest thing. Through to the semifinals which will take place

:06:16.:06:25.

tomorrow. Christine Spence is through, the American. We know that

:06:25.:06:32.

Eilidh Child was through and she is talking to fill. -- she is with Phil

:06:32.:06:42.
:06:42.:06:46.

run but it was hard from lane one. Everybody knows that it is the most

:06:46.:06:50.

nerve wracking when you want to put a solid run together. I am happy to

:06:50.:06:57.

have qualified. It is understandable the nerve wracking thing because

:06:57.:07:01.

Georganne Moline foul and Kaliese Spencer was disqualified. You cannot

:07:01.:07:09.

take anything for granted. -- Georganne Moline foul. Yes, you

:07:09.:07:14.

cannot take anything for granted. Tomorrow is a final, I have two run

:07:14.:07:21.

it like a final so I can get into the final. I have got to go for it.

:07:21.:07:28.

Leave it all on the track. All the best. Thank you, Cheers.Confirm the

was tweeting about watching the athletics in her pyjamas. Thankfully

:08:27.:08:32.

she was wide awake today. Let's go back to when Meghan Beesley went

:08:32.:08:38.

through but the big talking point was Kaliese Spencer's

:08:39.:08:43.

disqualification. I think everybody is hugely surprised. I think it is

:08:43.:08:53.
:08:53.:09:01.

for a league lead -- lead leg is in lane six. They say she went

:09:01.:09:06.

round the hurdle with her lead leg, she did not cross the barrier. There

:09:06.:09:11.

is the flag up there. I have no doubt that Jamaica will put in a

:09:11.:09:17.

protest to say, let's have a really good look at this. They can look at

:09:17.:09:21.

different camera angles. I am sure Kaliese Spencer herself was in the

:09:21.:09:27.

championships, she has arrived in good form, she literally looked

:09:27.:09:31.

effortless. You can imagine how disappointed she feels right now and

:09:31.:09:37.

I think that is why Jamaica may put in a protest. The other big drama in

:09:37.:09:39.

that race was Georganne Moline hitting one of the penultimate

:09:39.:09:46.

hurdles and going down. Yes, it was on the top bend. She hit it so badly

:09:47.:09:53.

she ended up on her knees. For an event which is wide open, yes,

:09:53.:09:56.

Hejnova is the favourite along with our own perish eight Drayton, but

:09:56.:10:01.

she clipped it without Trail Lake and it took her out of the race.

:10:01.:10:09.

Very unfortunate and very painful -- she clipped it with her Trail leg.

:10:09.:10:15.

I'm going to see this and it will sound awful but it was a lazy toe.

:10:15.:10:20.

In hurdles you are expected to keep your ankle up. She dropped her toe,

:10:20.:10:25.

her toe caught the barrier and she pitched forward. That is what can

:10:25.:10:29.

happen in qualification, you think you do not have two run fast and

:10:29.:10:35.

maybe you go to sleep. It can happen on a regular basis. Do you think

:10:35.:10:41.

that is what happened with Kaliese Spencer? Would you say it was

:10:41.:10:45.

technically cheating? She would definitely have a go to clear the

:10:45.:10:48.

barrier. I think sometimes you cannot be in that zone at the

:10:48.:10:55.

particular time. And a quick word on Meghan because she did not have a

:10:55.:11:01.

trouble-free race either. She looked very worried at the start. She goes

:11:01.:11:05.

into the race with no real expectations, she ran very well, she

:11:05.:11:10.

clipped the first hurdle which could have been nasty. Full credit to her,

:11:10.:11:15.

she kept her head, she kept running. A lot of people's brains would have

:11:15.:11:23.

been scrambled at this point. You can see Kaliese Spencer who is

:11:23.:11:26.

oblivious to her disqualification at this point. She made it through,

:11:26.:11:35.

luckily. For Meghan Beesley, like a Lee Child, it there is the final.

:11:35.:11:40.

She will have two race hard. What she wants to get out of the

:11:40.:11:44.

Championships is a personal best. It will set her up nicely for the

:11:44.:11:49.

coming years. Next year she has the Commonwealth games and the European

:11:49.:11:52.

Championships. That will be very big for someone like Megan because of

:11:52.:11:58.

the chance to get to a major final. Two nights ago it was no Farrow

:11:58.:12:03.

winning gold. Last night it was Tirunesh Dibaba. This her fifth

:12:03.:12:13.
:12:13.:12:13.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:12:13.:13:03.

Tirunesh Dibaba kicks again. A athlete. It was a joy to watch her

:13:03.:13:09.

last night. Before we talk about her, we will head down to the

:13:09.:13:19.
:13:19.:13:26.

women's heptathlete. Katarina far. This is where it gets really

:13:26.:13:36.

serious. That is good! Excellent buy Katarina Johnson-Thompson. That is

:13:36.:13:46.
:13:46.:13:51.

another 978 points for the British 11. -- British number one. This is

:13:52.:13:56.

where it starts getting interesting for heptathlete is. It is where the

:13:56.:14:04.

big points accumulate. It is a must nail event for her. I cut you off

:14:04.:14:07.

talking about Tirunesh Dibaba and what a wonderful athlete she is and

:14:07.:14:13.

a delight to watch last night. We were marvelling at the quality,

:14:13.:14:17.

the EU is at which she dominates her races, 10,000m, five, it does not

:14:17.:14:22.

matter what she does. She is a class in her own and it is wonderful to

:14:22.:14:26.

see athletes at the top of their game and she has been for a long

:14:26.:14:36.
:14:36.:14:41.

time. Hard to see anyone beating Valerie Adams?

:14:41.:14:44.

She is so confident in what she does, I have been lucky enough to

:14:44.:14:50.

speak to her on various occasions, she is a fluent French speaker

:14:50.:14:53.

because that Michael and when she goes to Europe they love her because

:14:53.:15:03.
:15:03.:15:15.

goes to Europe they love her because she is a true champion and she is

:15:15.:15:18.

very international. She has won every single championship that is

:15:18.:15:21.

out there. Look at this, it goes back to 2006, and that journey has

:15:21.:15:23.

just been success, success, success, success. A phenomenal athlete and

:15:23.:15:26.

record. Imagine what our superstar she would be if she was a track

:15:26.:15:28.

athlete, not in shot put. She has a big personality, her

:15:28.:15:34.

throwing speaks for itself. She -- she was elevated to that gold

:15:34.:15:39.

position after a drug suspension which she thoroughly deserved.

:15:39.:15:44.

Let's take a look at what is coming up this evening, it should be a

:15:44.:15:47.

fabulous afternoon session, an evening session for us, afternoon

:15:47.:15:54.

for you. Colin's old event, the men's 110m

:15:54.:15:59.

hurdles. The women's 100m semifinals, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

:15:59.:16:09.
:16:09.:16:12.

there. English Gardner - I wonder how hyped up she will be. The men's

:16:12.:16:16.

400m semifinals, as you can see this is one not to miss, it will be a

:16:16.:16:23.

fabulous evening. The women's shot put final at 5:25pm, the heptathlon

:16:23.:16:29.

featuring Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the women's 400m final and finally

:16:29.:16:31.

the women's 400m final and finally the 110m hurdles final and women's

:16:31.:16:39.

100m. Let's talk about the 400m. Christine Ohuruogu won the women's

:16:39.:16:47.

title in 2007, is it time for it to come back again? I hope so.We all

:16:47.:16:53.

hope so I! Sometimes Christine does not get the

:16:53.:16:57.

respect she deserves, she is in the greatest shape she has ever been

:16:57.:17:01.

in. She looked great in qualification in the semifinal.

:17:01.:17:07.

is the fastest she has ever run outside of our final. Yes, it was a

:17:07.:17:17.
:17:17.:17:18.

strong, strong qualification for her. I just think Monthso with other

:17:18.:17:22.

two -- a little too much for her. No doubt Christine will be clawing her

:17:22.:17:32.
:17:32.:17:41.

way back, but she may not get there because...

:17:41.:17:44.

The qualification is interesting, David Oliver stood out?

:17:44.:17:50.

Yes, he is the one to watch. Once he gets into the rhythm, he has

:17:50.:17:59.

that 30.0 groove. And Will Sharman ran well in the Anniversary Games,

:17:59.:18:04.

not quite as slick in qualification. He has the toughest of the

:18:04.:18:09.

semifinals, it will be a tough call for him, unfortunately, but you

:18:09.:18:13.

never know. Let's have a look at never know. Let's have a look at

:18:13.:18:17.

when we are back on air this afternoon. 3:30pm on BBC One, and

:18:17.:18:22.

the time for those big finals is between 6pm and 7pm on BBC Two, I'm

:18:22.:18:26.

between 6pm and 7pm on BBC Two, I'm sorry. The 100m final, we have the

:18:26.:18:30.

semifinals then obviously the final, how is that going to go, Denise?

:18:30.:18:36.

That is going to be a cracker, it is all about Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

:18:36.:18:40.
