Kenya defends her world title in champion again. Usain Bolt is going

:01:09.:01:13.

to take the gold medal again. Unbeatable, unsurpassable. Mo Farah

:01:13.:01:23.
:01:23.:01:29.

Russian architecture and imagery will stop and tonight, on the third

:01:29.:01:36.

day in Moscow, it's time for the women to take centre stage. Last

:01:36.:01:41.

night it was Usain Bolt who lit up the stadium. He's going to take the

:01:41.:01:47.

gold medal again! And tonight, over the high hurdles, we will see Aries

:01:47.:01:52.

Merritt and David Oliver. And there's the young Prince of the

:01:52.:01:57.

400m, Kirani James. But tonight it is the women who are set to be the

:01:57.:02:03.

star attractions, from the strongest to the fastest. They promise to make

:02:03.:02:13.
:02:13.:02:24.

this a night to remember at the session for you. And an added

:02:24.:02:34.
:02:34.:02:37.

sprinting -- sprinkling of stardust sprinter. Johnson on the inside,

:02:37.:02:47.

charging into the straight. Johnson coming away. This is a marvellous

:02:47.:02:51.

performance by the favourite, Michael Johnson. Johnson wins it.

:02:51.:02:58.

What a performance! Johnson storming through. He's got to be the world

:02:58.:03:02.

champion again. It's the second fastest time of all time. Michael

:03:02.:03:06.

Johnson promised it all and delivered. Michael Johnson, yet

:03:06.:03:12.

another gold medal. Johnson, storming away to another gold

:03:12.:03:16.

medal, another World Championships title. The world record beckons...

:03:16.:03:20.

And it's gone! He said he would come here and try and do the one thing

:03:20.:03:30.
:03:30.:03:36.

he's not been able to do. What a Michael Johnson is back in the fold.

:03:36.:03:41.

Welcome to Moscow. Thank you, it's great to be here. I'm excited, it's

:03:41.:03:44.

going to be a great Championships, it already has been. I'm so happy to

:03:44.:03:54.

be here. United! We were here last night enjoying Usain Bolt, but we

:03:54.:03:59.

were focused on the track. When you see the shots afterwards, it was

:03:59.:04:03.

almost biblical. The rain came down the second before the gun went in

:04:03.:04:08.

the 100m. The lightning bolt that appeared as well. Somebody up there

:04:08.:04:16.

is a big fan of athletics! He was anointed last night. It was amazing.

:04:16.:04:21.

When it was time to do the business he said, it's my time and claimed

:04:21.:04:25.

his crown again. Going back to that fabulous montage of your World

:04:25.:04:27.

Championships wins, I'm guessing from the facial reaction and what

:04:28.:04:34.

was going on with the mouse, the final win with the world record was

:04:34.:04:40.

your favourite. It was my favourite. The one that we just saw, 1997. I

:04:40.:04:44.

shouldn't have even been at that Championships. It was a very slow

:04:44.:04:49.

time, I was injured. I was very proud to be able to pull that one

:04:49.:04:52.

out as well. It's good to have you back. This is what we have in store

:04:53.:05:02.
:05:03.:05:04.

Lavillenie is after the full set of medals into night pole vault final,

:05:04.:05:13.

and he looks unstoppable. Another Olympic champion, Kirani James. He

:05:13.:05:23.
:05:23.:05:27.

is a class act over 400m. It's the night, we have another of

:05:27.:05:32.

athletic's all-time greats. Valerie Adams is after a fourth shot at the

:05:32.:05:39.

Crown. Also going for gold, Christine Ohuruogu. Has she timed it

:05:39.:05:45.

just might once again? Montsho what Botswana is the woman to become --

:05:45.:05:51.

the woman to beat. The women's 400m finals followed by the men's

:05:51.:06:01.

hurdles, where Aries Merritt hopes to add world to Olympic gold. And

:06:01.:06:07.

our climax comes with the women's 100 metre final. Will Shelley and

:06:07.:06:11.

Fraser-Pryce make it another glorious night for Jamaica? This is

:06:11.:06:21.
:06:21.:06:21.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:06:21.:07:19.

how to plan your evening. Lavillenie hoping that Christine Ohuruogu will

:07:19.:07:22.

get back on the podium tonight. There's one lady who looks like she

:07:22.:07:29.

is in the form of her life, and that is Montsho. She has previously not

:07:29.:07:32.

read championship racing quite right. She didn't get to where she

:07:32.:07:37.

wanted to be last year in London, but this year she is doing the

:07:37.:07:41.

business. Yes. She looks an amazing form. She will pose a lot of

:07:41.:07:47.

problems for Christine. The lane draw, I don't know who to say it

:07:47.:07:54.

favours. Christine, perhaps. She will be hoping that mantle goes off

:07:54.:08:00.

really hard in the first 200, and Christine has to stay in contention

:08:00.:08:04.

if she has any chance. The way that Christine runs, she will look like

:08:04.:08:08.

she is not in contention because that's just the way her first 200

:08:08.:08:13.

is. She's got not panic and stick to her game plan. Christine never

:08:13.:08:18.

panics. I think the lane draw actually does favour Christine with

:08:18.:08:23.

Montsho on the outside. Montreal does go out hard, and we know that

:08:23.:08:28.

Christine finishes brilliantly. The problem is, we are missing Francine

:08:28.:08:32.

and McCrory, who is probably sitting very pretty because everyone is

:08:32.:08:35.

talking about Montreal and Ohuruogu. She's never won a championship,

:08:35.:08:39.

she's in great form this year and has been consistent throughout the

:08:39.:08:44.

year. This is a great place for her to make a mark. That tends to happen

:08:44.:08:49.

quite a bit in the year after an Olympic Games. We were marvelling at

:08:49.:08:54.

Montsho the other night and her form. If you put it next to

:08:54.:08:59.

Christine, Christine is a consummate runner, but you see the composter of

:08:59.:09:03.

Montreux. She appears not to be breathing. I can assure you, not

:09:03.:09:08.

being the most experienced 400m runner, but she is breathing! She is

:09:08.:09:14.

composed, relaxed, well within herself. That is what you need at

:09:14.:09:19.

that stage of the rounds. She is trying to conserve as much energy as

:09:19.:09:25.

possible, doing just what she has to do to move on to really deliver in

:09:25.:09:30.

the final. Christine looks like she's working harder at this stage.

:09:30.:09:36.

A little bit harder. This is a preliminary round, so we don't know

:09:36.:09:40.

what type of effort each athlete puts out. But they are both there

:09:40.:09:45.

really -- very similar runners, very similar build. Both of them are very

:09:45.:09:50.

good finishers. That is what sets us up for a very good race this

:09:50.:09:59.

evening. We should look at the other contenders, maybe. In the 100m,

:09:59.:10:03.

Shelley Anne Fraser-Pryce is the Jamaican to beat. She's always the

:10:03.:10:08.

one to beat. She so consistent. To come out here and win the Olympics

:10:09.:10:14.

twice, win World Championships, now she is here again and very good

:10:14.:10:18.

shape. She's got a little bit of competition, but what we are seeing

:10:18.:10:21.

with Fraser-Pryce is that she handles competition very well.

:10:21.:10:26.

Consistent with the Jamaicans, they are very relaxed. They come into it

:10:26.:10:30.

without a lot of pressure. Even someone who is as heavy a favourite

:10:30.:10:35.

as she is and with all of the hard way she always # all of the hardware

:10:35.:10:40.

she already has, it is just built into the Jamaican society that it is

:10:40.:10:44.

this relaxed atmosphere. They bring that over to track and field.

:10:44.:10:47.

Championships don't faze them. I know you were flying overnight last

:10:47.:10:52.

night, so you missed a couple of really key races. Tirunesh Dibaba

:10:52.:10:57.

was invincible in the 10,000m, but it was the shorter, sharper and

:10:57.:11:07.
:11:07.:11:26.

always more showbiz Usain Bolt time Could you ever doubt him? After the

:11:26.:11:31.

semi-finals I wasn't feeling good, my legs were sore. I knew it wasn't

:11:31.:11:36.

going to be a world record, so I just came out here to give a great

:11:36.:11:40.

show. There were a lot of Jamaicans in the crowd, it was beautiful. My

:11:40.:11:46.

parents were here, it's great. must be so proud of you. I know they

:11:46.:11:51.

expect me to come out and dominate, no matter what. They always want me

:11:51.:11:56.

to win. How do you stay so relaxed? I saw you putting up an umbrella

:11:56.:12:01.

metaphorically as the rain came down. It just came to be, I'm just

:12:01.:12:09.

spontaneous like that. Is any sport has a bigger star than please show

:12:09.:12:16.

me him. He is supreme. You other person to

:12:16.:12:19.

ask about expectation. When you are consistently winning Olympic and

:12:19.:12:22.

World Championships, I just get the feeling this season, that pressure,

:12:22.:12:27.

he deals with it very well, but being beaten early on in the season,

:12:27.:12:32.

as he was, it changes his mind set a little bit. You see a bit more of a

:12:32.:12:37.

serious side to him. I think that's become the model for Usain Bolt. It

:12:37.:12:47.
:12:47.:12:52.

was the same situation, being beaten at the Jamaican trials by Johan

:12:52.:12:55.

Blake and then not performing very well after that and taking time off.

:12:55.:12:58.

When you put yourself in the shoes of Usain Bolt, who is such a huge

:12:58.:13:00.

star, he is head and shoulders better than everyone else. If he

:13:00.:13:03.

goes out there and he's healthy, he wins the races. It's very difficult

:13:03.:13:06.

for him to really get focused and to really get himself into great race

:13:06.:13:08.

shape until there's something significant at stake. We didn't win

:13:08.:13:11.

the last World Championships because of a false start. This is really

:13:11.:13:14.

something he wanted. It was just about the championship. I think that

:13:14.:13:18.

is what we are going to see. One of the things I said earlier about

:13:18.:13:22.

winning the Olympics in Beijing and then breaking the world record, him

:13:22.:13:26.

doing everything he can possibly do in the sport within a short period

:13:26.:13:30.

of time, where is the motivation coming from? What we've seen over

:13:30.:13:34.

the years is it's all about championships for him now. To expect

:13:34.:13:39.

that he's going to be running up the track on Diamond League events every

:13:39.:13:44.

year when he's got appearances and all sorts of other things to do, we

:13:44.:13:49.

are probably not going to see that. As he gets older, this will not bode

:13:49.:13:56.

well for him just to focus on Championships. It will become more

:13:56.:13:58.

of a priority to peak at World Championships. He mentioned the

:13:58.:14:01.

record, that was obviously in mind, London was an opportunity. Does that

:14:01.:14:07.

mean we've seen him run as fast as he was going to run this year?

:14:07.:14:13.

not sure. There's still a lot of running post these championships

:14:13.:14:18.

left. What we talked about his motivation. He wants to have the

:14:18.:14:20.

complete dominance. He might be looking to have be the most medalled

:14:20.:14:28.

athlete ever across all sports. I just think that must be possibly the

:14:28.:14:32.

motivation. Hopefully we will see him go through to Rio and achieve

:14:33.:14:38.

that. He could equal Carl Lewis RAPt ten golds here if he continues with

:14:38.:14:43.

the 200 and the relay. He's got a lot more running in him yet and we

:14:43.:14:49.

are loving seeing him. Before Usain Bolt took to the track last night,

:14:49.:14:55.

another of the sport's superstars. Perhaps not nearly as well known,

:14:55.:14:59.

but in athletics circles he -- as revered. Tirunesh Dibaba gave us

:14:59.:15:09.
:15:09.:15:35.

majesty... . Dibaba kicks again, a majestic performance, world medal.

:15:35.:15:45.
:15:45.:15:49.

because Dibaba does not speak English to the press, and she is not

:15:49.:15:54.

the show man that Usain Bolt is, she does not have that recognition, and

:15:54.:15:59.

that is a choice as much as anything else, but a 59 second lap the last

:15:59.:16:04.

one, and the way she ran the 10k last night, she is an unbelievable

:16:04.:16:07.

professional. Obviously it will be difficult to have the type of

:16:07.:16:13.

stature that Usain Bolt has as a distance runner. Only Haile

:16:13.:16:20.

Gebrselassie has been able to do that over the years but I think it

:16:20.:16:24.

is one of the things that's the supposedly about the sport, we

:16:24.:16:28.

cannot have the Tirunesh Dibaba of the sport and have the public know

:16:28.:16:32.

how incredible she is and how special she is. And that is not up

:16:32.:16:37.

to Tirunesh Dibaba, she should not have to go out and figure out how to

:16:37.:16:42.

create a Mobot or a lightning Bolt to bring attention to herself, she

:16:42.:16:47.

should be able to do that with her running. Surely with Dibaba, she

:16:47.:16:51.

should do a haircut thing? I am sure she will take that on board really

:16:51.:16:55.

well! We loved it last night, she will be in here tonight receiving

:16:55.:16:59.

her gold medal and I am sure the crowd will show their appreciation.

:16:59.:17:03.

This morning's session was tolerated by the one lap hurdles, and great

:17:03.:17:13.
:17:13.:17:20.

fish at least came through very Sanchez started very quickly down

:17:20.:17:27.

the back straight. Sanchez sat the pace but Williams is moving nicely,

:17:27.:17:30.

the first 200 metres. This puts him in about third place at the moment

:17:30.:17:35.

but in the sound him is Clement of the USA, chances for everybody.

:17:35.:17:42.

Williams is a qualifying place, Sanchez wins it, and job done for

:17:43.:17:47.

Rhys Williams. Difficult time for the defending champion. I am

:17:47.:17:52.

guessing he will be wondering like the rest of us what he can produce

:17:52.:18:00.

here. Beside him Gordon... The top four qualify by rights, Dai Greene

:18:00.:18:07.

has started OK, trying to stay with Gordon. Phillips trying to get back

:18:07.:18:13.

into this but it is Gordon and Dai Greene dictating things. The

:18:13.:18:19.

defending champion starting to look a little tired here, as the figure

:18:19.:18:24.

of Philip, through, and can he get the? Dai Greene, quick enough, I

:18:24.:18:34.
:18:34.:18:35.

think. Kelly Spencer of Jamaica, fourth in the Olympic Games, she has

:18:35.:18:41.

got a tough job. Safely away and Meghan Beesley did not explode out

:18:41.:18:46.

of the box, Kelly Spencer also started quickly, as has George and

:18:46.:18:56.
:18:56.:19:00.

she has to concentrate now, Spencer in the lead. And drama in this first

:19:00.:19:04.

round, it is one of the favourites, she has gone, and Meghan Beesley has

:19:04.:19:14.
:19:14.:19:26.

a chance here. Spencer gets there, looking composed. Shakes-Drayton in

:19:26.:19:36.
:19:36.:19:40.

fantastic form. She has still got some work to do here. Tracy hits

:19:40.:19:50.
:19:50.:19:50.

that one sour -- that one day, and that is the quickest we have seen so

:19:50.:19:59.

far. The final heat in this first round. Eilidh Child off to a steady

:19:59.:20:05.

start in lane one. Powering away down the back straight and she looks

:20:05.:20:09.

to be in a good position at the moment. Mohammed out in front. The

:20:09.:20:17.

victory goes to Dalila Mohammed but Eilidh Child is safely through.

:20:17.:20:27.
:20:27.:20:30.

GABBY LOGAN: All of them safely me, really happy to see Young

:20:30.:20:35.

Sebastien getting through, he was so nervous, just coming off be straight

:20:35.:20:39.

under 23 win and he is through to the semifinals. White I wonder how

:20:39.:20:43.

you feel about Dai Greene, he got through by the skin of his teeth, he

:20:43.:20:47.

has not been in good form and pulled out of the last you will race is,

:20:47.:20:49.

when you are defending world champion and you are defending world

:20:49.:20:53.

champion Andy turned up, and you think about turning up without

:20:53.:20:57.

preparation -- and you turn up. must be for thinking that he cannot

:20:57.:21:01.

give it your best shot. Add to that, the disappointment of last

:21:01.:21:07.

year in London for Dai Greene, it is a difficult situation for him, at

:21:07.:21:17.

this point he is probably taking it round by round. And all these other

:21:17.:21:23.

guys, Gordon, Felix, all of these guys around him, so hopefully he is

:21:23.:21:31.

not saying... But as I say that and think about the 400m hurdles, it is

:21:31.:21:34.

still at the most competitive events in this sport, it will be difficult

:21:34.:21:37.

in a semifinal just to get into the final because so many guys are so

:21:38.:21:43.

evenly matched. We did a programme recently that he contributed to and

:21:43.:21:48.

said it took in a while to find out that fourth was not bad in that

:21:48.:21:51.

field in London, he had come in as world champion and expected he would

:21:51.:21:55.

be on the rostrum in his home Olympics, obviously a disappointment

:21:55.:22:00.

but the event is so loaded. Yes, and when you are world champion, you

:22:00.:22:03.

expect to take that and ride that into the Olympics and that did not

:22:04.:22:09.

happen for Dai and I am sure he is disappointed but he is still not in

:22:09.:22:13.

great shape and form, he has had injuries and setbacks so taking it

:22:13.:22:17.

round by round, he could get better each round. Anything can happen here

:22:17.:22:21.

so hopefully that is the way he is looking at it. I am sure he is

:22:21.:22:25.

working with his coach. He will treat tomorrow as if it was the

:22:25.:22:30.

final because he will have to run it as a final. When we were talking

:22:30.:22:34.

about the time of Christine Ohuruogu yesterday, rumour saying she may

:22:34.:22:38.

have to run a British record of she wants to beat Montsho tonight and we

:22:38.:22:43.

talked about Kathy Cook, it is hard to talk about it without the great

:22:43.:22:49.

Kathy Cook as a prefix, she really is the rest of female sprinter in

:22:49.:22:59.
:22:59.:23:00.

Britain and Steve Cram went to speak COMMENTATOR: Kathy Cook Great

:23:00.:23:04.

Britain takes the bronze! She ran the 400m in a time good enough to

:23:04.:23:10.

win at London 2012. In a period that has been considered

:23:10.:23:14.

both Golden and a controversial area in athletics. That was just one of

:23:14.:23:24.
:23:24.:23:26.

four British spin -- sprint record greatest British sprinters of all

:23:26.:23:30.

time -- Kathy. She today lives near Birmingham and teaches PE at a local

:23:30.:23:35.

school. This is from that period? You have

:23:35.:23:38.

not changed a bit. Kathy and I debated at our first Olympics in

:23:38.:23:46.

Moscow. This is your gold medal -- Cathy and I competed.

:23:46.:23:52.

These games took place in a turbulent Cold War context. After

:23:52.:23:57.

the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, the USA and 64 other countries staged a

:23:57.:24:02.

boycott making eight a unique sporting experience for us both.

:24:02.:24:08.

started to feel like it would not be a proper Olympics. And you are

:24:08.:24:17.

literally flown in, did your event and thrown -- flown home. It was

:24:17.:24:23.

quite spartan? Yes, compared to Los Angeles which was all singing and

:24:23.:24:28.

all dancing. But then again, it was still the Olympics and I was happy

:24:28.:24:32.

to get to the finals of the 100 metres and I knew in the relay that

:24:32.:24:42.
:24:42.:24:43.

we should be in with a shout. remember walking out and people talk

:24:43.:24:47.

about the Olympic final and I am still going... And I was last

:24:47.:24:54.

straightaway. I was like that. You can talk yourself out of it, it is

:24:54.:24:58.

ridiculous and my other memory is being at the start line and it was

:24:58.:25:01.

either a Russian national anthem being played an East German one and

:25:01.:25:07.

that Hume seemed to be playing whole time, 20 47. On a big leap. To get

:25:07.:25:16.

your first Olympics -- 20 47 on a big leap. At the Moscow Olympics and

:25:16.:25:20.

in the years that followed, Kathy regularly reach the podium but more

:25:20.:25:25.

often finished her races in the wake of East German athletes clocking

:25:25.:25:29.

some of the fastest times in the sport. I remember seeing them on the

:25:29.:25:38.

warm up track and it looked like a week of my training. I ran against

:25:38.:25:40.

people like my competitors and they seemed like another species of

:25:40.:25:45.

human. What did you put that down to? I thought they were taking drugs

:25:45.:25:49.

but I thought they were probably training harder than me as well.

:25:49.:25:54.

That is what the drugs allow you to do. Yes, it is a circle.Even though

:25:54.:26:02.

you are getting better, others words doing so as well. People I had

:26:02.:26:05.

beaten I certainly could not beat and they were looking different and

:26:05.:26:10.

you start to think, that does not write. After the demise of East

:26:11.:26:13.

Germany in 1990, secret police files were opened up revealing evidence

:26:13.:26:16.

that athletes have been systematically doped during the

:26:16.:26:22.

1980s. Amongst them, many of Kathy's rivals so it is hard for her

:26:22.:26:27.

to avoid asking, what if. In 1982 at the World Championships,

:26:27.:26:34.

you run brilliantly and you were pipped at the post by someone who

:26:34.:26:37.

was subsequently named as one of those who had been taking drugs and

:26:37.:26:42.

given drugs. How does that make you feel now? That particular race is

:26:42.:26:48.

very annoying. I have got lots of copies of that photo on the

:26:48.:26:56.

finishing line of her tweaking the art. -- tweaking me. You could have

:26:56.:26:59.

won a gold medal, you never got an individual one and you certainly

:26:59.:27:07.

were a good enough athlete. Part of me thinks if I had won one, would my

:27:07.:27:11.

life have gone a different way? But I have got sponsorship? Would I have

:27:11.:27:15.

stopped working? I always work part-time or full-time. Who knows?

:27:15.:27:19.

And then it is confidence, you get the winning habit so if you win a

:27:19.:27:23.

gold medal and you know what it feels like, it must be amazing so I

:27:23.:27:27.

definitely want that to happen again. Who's to say how that have

:27:27.:27:36.

affected my career. We sit here in 2013 and you're still a British

:27:36.:27:46.
:27:46.:27:47.

record holder, 200, 400, your times are still world-class. I remember

:27:47.:27:50.

being at school and I could not work it out, I was so much faster than

:27:50.:27:53.

everybody else and when I was in sixth form, I run against the boys

:27:53.:28:00.

and beat them as well and obviously that does knew no good as well! --

:28:00.:28:04.

does you no good. I knew I was fast. It was a burden but I definitely had

:28:04.:28:09.

to do something with that, I could not just go along and not give it my

:28:09.:28:15.

best shot. This is the 1984 period. I was in my best shape in Los

:28:15.:28:21.

Angeles and remember doing the 400 and being made with the performance.

:28:21.:28:30.

And I felt like I was flying, I felt brilliant. You were two and a half

:28:30.:28:34.

hours late at a welcome home street party! Our kids were reading in the

:28:34.:28:38.

press and on TV of Kathy's achievements which they were not

:28:38.:28:43.

even aware of. We got older and then realised then that what she had

:28:43.:28:51.

achieved. To see that our mum's time would have still won gold, it was

:28:51.:29:00.

impressive. Nice to know. I look for this headline, cool Cookies on the

:29:00.:29:07.

boil. I cannot believe I did it, for a start, and I have got medals to

:29:07.:29:11.

look at which is lovely for me. I am just pleased with what I did and I

:29:12.:29:21.
:29:22.:29:30.

am content so what is to complain life thinking, what if? But she was

:29:30.:29:34.

just supremely naturally talented. You could even see body shape wise,

:29:34.:29:43.

she looked like she did a quarter of the training of those Eastern Bloc

:29:43.:29:48.

athletes. Some people are just born to run, she was one of them. I

:29:49.:29:53.

remember seeing her on the side of a cereal packet when I was a little

:29:53.:29:57.

girl. I collected my Olympics stars. I thought you was the most amazing

:29:57.:30:00.

athlete. It was, like, how does she do it? This is the real crime of

:30:00.:30:04.

drug cheats. They steal from athletes like that, they take away

:30:04.:30:12.

that dream of what could have been. Luckily, she is not bitter, she has

:30:12.:30:17.

moved on and has a wonderful family, but that could have changed

:30:17.:30:21.

her life. To put it in context, in absolute terms, she could have given

:30:21.:30:24.

up her job and been a full-time athlete, got some sponsorship and

:30:24.:30:26.

who knows what she could have done? But the fact that Christine Ohuruogu

:30:26.:30:29.

is still chasing that 400m record and she may have to break it if she

:30:29.:30:34.

wants to win this goal tonight. of the things that struck me that

:30:34.:30:38.

she said there in that piece, and this is one of the things that I

:30:38.:30:40.

think people don't understand, the real consequences of drug cheats on

:30:40.:30:42.

other athletes. Had she won one championship, she would have then

:30:42.:30:45.

have the confidence from that experience of having one. Then what

:30:45.:30:49.

does that mean for the remainder of your career? We talked about my own

:30:49.:30:51.

career earlier. Having won a championship, it put me in a very

:30:52.:30:54.

good position going into other championships because I'd been there

:30:54.:30:58.

before and there was the confidence that Cathy was never able to have.

:30:58.:31:02.

Hopefully we will see confidence in heats tonight from Aries Merritt. He

:31:02.:31:07.

won the Olympic gold last year in the 110m hurdles. We broke the world

:31:07.:31:11.

record in Brussels. He arrives after a mixed season, but he's looking for

:31:11.:31:21.
:31:21.:31:44.

goal tonight. Me versus the world, I he's one of the most likeable

:31:45.:31:48.

athletes on the circuit. So let's hand you down to commentary now with

:31:48.:31:58.
:31:58.:31:58.

sharpness of Aries Merritt. He did his hamstring earlier in the season

:31:58.:32:04.

racing in sham -- Shanghai, and it's always been catching up since then.

:32:04.:32:08.

He was all conquering last season and to go huge chunk of the world

:32:08.:32:13.

record racing in Brussels. But this is a title that he wants to complete

:32:13.:32:17.

the collection, but this is a very strong heat. Just two semi-finals

:32:17.:32:23.

here. The gold, silver and bronze medallists from the London Olympics

:32:23.:32:33.
:32:33.:32:47.

are here. This is the bronze team-mate, Shubenkov. He's the 2008

:32:47.:32:55.

world junior champion. There is the defending world champion. The

:32:55.:33:05.
:33:05.:33:11.

elegant hurdler, Jason Richardson. brothers. Pascal Martinot-Lagarde

:33:11.:33:19.

didn't come through the heats but Thomas looked pretty good. There is

:33:19.:33:21.

the Olympic champion, the world indoor champion and world

:33:21.:33:31.
:33:31.:33:45.

champion, became his country's first ever world champion or indeed

:33:45.:33:49.

championship medallist in athletics. Completing the line-up is

:33:49.:33:56.

Baji, of Hungary. Four times the Hungarian champion. He ran a

:33:56.:34:06.
:34:06.:34:24.

personal best to come through his in the men's 110m hurdles. The first

:34:24.:34:29.

three to go through automatically to the final later on tonight. The next

:34:29.:34:39.
:34:39.:34:50.

much noise. Yes, it's important these hurdlers can settle down into

:34:51.:34:55.

their blocks. They have obstacles in front of them that are pretty high

:34:55.:34:59.

and heavy, also. You want to have as much concentration adiposity can at

:34:59.:35:05.

this very critical and crucial part of the race. Colin, Breanna Rollins

:35:05.:35:10.

was talking about the hurdles being wooden instead of plastic, they were

:35:10.:35:13.

too heavy and she hurt herself in training. I will bring that up

:35:13.:35:23.
:35:23.:35:23.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:35:23.:36:13.

Richardson gets it, Merritt settled for third. Merritt, what a dreadful

:36:13.:36:16.

start from Aries Merritt. In-out will watch the clock and weight, but

:36:16.:36:23.

I do not think, with a winning time of 13.34, that it's going to be good

:36:23.:36:30.

enough. The Olympic champion may have gone. It was an absolutely

:36:30.:36:34.

awful race. Scrappy on many levels. We were unsure whether it was going

:36:34.:36:39.

to be. Oh. Look at all this different movement going on, people

:36:39.:36:42.

reacting at different times. Aries Merritt didn't react at all. I don't

:36:43.:36:48.

know what he was waiting for! There was a huge struggle for him to get

:36:48.:36:52.

to the first hurdle. The Russian athlete is injured, pulled a

:36:52.:36:55.

hamstring. Parchment starts to make his way through the field. He

:36:55.:37:05.
:37:05.:37:06.

clatters a hurdle and he is out. Aries Merritt, he dips. The first

:37:06.:37:16.
:37:16.:37:24.

three, it says. I think UNIX his way Parchment on the third. Richardson

:37:24.:37:31.

out in front. Merritt straining to try and get there. What a mess at

:37:31.:37:35.

the start from Aries Merritt. If that is to be the end of his

:37:35.:37:40.

campaign, all of his own making. It was untidy from everyone. Very sad

:37:40.:37:46.

to see Parchment there, the bronze medallist in London. He is taken off

:37:46.:37:56.
:37:56.:38:05.

the track. Shabanov also receiving especially the French guy there. His

:38:05.:38:10.

leg was moving already. He's in lane six, he was twitching consistently.

:38:10.:38:13.

I'm surprised the starter didn't pull them back or at least tell them

:38:13.:38:17.

to stand up. He will no doubt be getting signals in his ear to say

:38:17.:38:27.
:38:27.:38:29.

that people are not stationary. And for the athletes to be released...

:38:29.:38:35.

These two, one has been the world champion, from Barbados, Merritt,

:38:35.:38:39.

from the US, the Olympic champion. I'm looking at the reaction times,

:38:39.:38:48.

they are atrocious. I'm not going to pretend here, lane eight was 0.397.

:38:48.:38:56.

And Aries Merritt was 0.327. Terrible reaction times. But we saw

:38:56.:39:00.

why, lots of movement in the blocks beforehand. I was getting a bit

:39:00.:39:07.

excited as well, I thought... Aries Merritt does go through as an

:39:07.:39:15.

automatic qualifier. If he tidies up that start and decides to do a

:39:15.:39:25.
:39:25.:39:34.

proper start in the final, all will mixed season coming into this, but

:39:34.:39:39.

that doesn't explain a start like that. I'm not quite sure it was

:39:39.:39:44.

totally Aries Merritt's fault. I agree with Colin, there was lots of

:39:44.:39:47.

agree with Colin, there was lots of movement by many different people.

:39:47.:39:52.

If you look at the three athletes, maybe even four, on the right side

:39:52.:39:57.

of your screen at the start, all of those guys are out to stop everyone

:39:57.:40:02.

else is still in the box. That tells me that someone over on the left

:40:02.:40:08.

side of the track moved first and everyone else moved with them. But

:40:08.:40:13.

the guys on the right side of the track, including Aries Merritt,

:40:13.:40:16.

didn't feel that movement, so they were sitting there waiting for the

:40:16.:40:21.

gun. I don't think everyone was settled. A great job by Aries

:40:21.:40:26.

Merritt, getting himself back into this race to qualify. The Olympic

:40:26.:40:33.

champion had it all to do, Denise, from about 50, he was back in almost

:40:33.:40:37.

six plays. Absolutely. The key at that point is not to panic. He has

:40:37.:40:43.

to trust in his hurdling ability, his reputation. I'm staggered, he

:40:43.:40:48.

was literally asleep in the blocks. As Michael said, the guys on his

:40:48.:40:53.

right were wobbling in the blocks, but the guy from France was

:40:53.:40:58.

stationary and unaffected. I'm really surprised at that. Luckily he

:40:58.:41:02.

is through, because I think he is in better shape than he was early in

:41:02.:41:08.

the season. When the Russian went down, I somehow had decided that map

:41:08.:41:13.

he had decided they were going to start again. It was all very

:41:13.:41:19.

confusing. Parchment was taken away as well. It wasn't a textbook race

:41:19.:41:23.

from anybody. It wasn't a vintage semifinal. The Russian pulled up

:41:23.:41:28.

injured, he was probably holding his hamstring. Parchment has had his

:41:28.:41:33.

problems, he got injured in the warm up at the Jamaican trials, so his

:41:33.:41:38.

preparations have also been hampered. Will shaman is in the next

:41:38.:41:48.
:41:48.:41:48.

semifinal. Let's hope things are a bit smoother here. Two years ago,

:41:48.:41:51.

William Sharman came to the final but it was Andy Turner who came

:41:51.:42:01.
:42:01.:42:19.

through the carnage on that occasion Richardson, a man who has got under

:42:19.:42:24.

13 seconds, qualifies in 13.34, he wins it on that time. That semifinal

:42:24.:42:32.

was pretty tame. I'm expecting this one to be much swifter. An eye on

:42:32.:42:35.

the fastest loser spots. Oliver would expect to be the favourite

:42:35.:42:42.

here. The Olympic bronze medallist back in 2008. Shubenkov, the

:42:42.:42:47.

Russian, will be the home crowd favourite. He's just seen his

:42:47.:42:57.
:42:57.:43:25.

fastest losers. The final in two and former European indoor champion, but

:43:25.:43:31.

it looks like his best running is behind him now. David Oliver coming

:43:31.:43:35.

back into good form just that the right time. In 2080 was probably the

:43:35.:43:39.

favourite going into the final but he ended up with a bronze medal.

:43:39.:43:49.
:43:49.:43:50.

Dominating back then. Dash back in 2008. This is a student of

:43:50.:44:00.
:44:00.:44:09.

Hasn't yet to run under 13 seconds, and that is the benchmark of true,

:44:10.:44:14.

world-class 100m hurdling. Same for Shubenkov. But the Russians have

:44:14.:44:18.

high hopes for this man. Still just 22, European indoor champion this

:44:18.:44:28.

year. Here is Will Sharman. So disappointed last year not to be

:44:28.:44:32.

involved. Commonwealth Games silver medallist. Has been fourth and fifth

:44:32.:44:36.

at the last two World Championships. British fans in the stadium to cheer

:44:36.:44:46.
:44:46.:44:50.

him on. Andrew Riley of Jamaica. The Jamaican in. -- champion. The first

:44:50.:44:54.

three, if you can. Clean race, give yourself the best chance and then,

:44:54.:45:04.
:45:04.:45:28.

if you can't win, 13.49. They are down on the track. The second

:45:28.:45:32.

semifinal of the men's 110m semifinal, David Oliver here in lane

:45:32.:45:42.
:45:42.:46:00.

Oliver, Will Sharman is fifth or sixth, I think, 13.18. That got the

:46:00.:46:09.

crowd going, didn't it? Sharman knows he is out but Shubenkov got a

:46:10.:46:13.

reasonable start, not the best start, watch this, Colin. Shubenkov

:46:13.:46:18.

maybe not as good as Sharman out of the blocks but what a good race from

:46:18.:46:22.

the Russian. That he is a very strong athlete, I have seen him

:46:22.:46:26.

prepared and he gets into this rhythm. He is not the best

:46:26.:46:30.

technically but he is strong and each stride he takes is very active

:46:30.:46:38.

and that puts him very well placed. David Oliver beat in the qualifying

:46:38.:46:43.

yesterday but Shubenkov has turned it on today. We will look at this

:46:43.:46:48.

again, Will Sharman has got a chance here, I thought he was fifth on the

:46:48.:46:51.

line and wedges with the bully times to come through, I thought he might

:46:51.:46:59.

be sixth. I think he out leans Noga. If he is quicker than that, it will

:46:59.:47:04.

be an anxious wait, but he may have a chance here. That was not the best

:47:04.:47:07.

angle for us to check that out that while we are waiting for that, let's

:47:07.:47:12.

watch him head on. He is a very smooth hurdler, Will Sharman, that

:47:12.:47:17.

is a big advantage and he is a confident man and this year, he said

:47:17.:47:22.

his reparations have nearly been flawless so he has moved his way

:47:22.:47:25.

into really high-class sprint hurdling and it is nice to see him

:47:25.:47:28.

here settling in. He's not worried about what is going on around him,

:47:28.:47:33.

he can see that Shubenkov is on his shoulders but he keeps nice and

:47:33.:47:38.

focused and ready to move on, this looks good. The good news is that by

:47:38.:47:48.
:47:48.:47:53.

100th of a second, he has not good enough but you are in the

:47:53.:47:57.

final, your reaction? I was surprised because I thought I was

:47:57.:48:00.

winning because Shubenkov and the Jamaican were behind me and I know

:48:00.:48:04.

they are quick and then I came into the finish line, dipped and there

:48:04.:48:08.

was a time of other guys ahead of me and I thought, oh, my goodness! I

:48:08.:48:12.

thought they had not made the grade so I am really pleased to be in the

:48:12.:48:16.

final. I love everybody at home because of your support, just wish

:48:16.:48:21.

me luck in the final, I will give it my best shot, 100%, I will guarantee

:48:21.:48:25.

I will give you my best shot and hopefully I will come away with some

:48:25.:48:35.

jewellery. Let's hope so, all the glad that my first look, I thought

:48:35.:48:39.

he had not mean him out but there is the evidence, very good for the

:48:39.:48:49.
:48:49.:48:49.

Russian, David Oliver just out leans by the Russian, and it is a good job

:48:50.:48:53.

that Aries Merritt came through because he would not have been quick

:48:53.:48:57.

enough because the second semifinal was much faster.

:48:57.:49:01.

GABBY LOGAN: By the same token, good job that Will Sharman was in the

:49:01.:49:05.

semifinal he was because that disrupted first semifinal not being

:49:05.:49:08.

as quick, and him being further down the field than he thought he was,

:49:08.:49:13.

because he thought he was winning, he goes from hero to zero and zero

:49:13.:49:16.

to hero very quickly. We are delighted he has got himself into

:49:16.:49:24.

the final. Yes because he has had his injuries and it pays off Micro

:49:24.:49:28.

to be patient and work well and he has he has got his reward and he

:49:28.:49:33.

deserves to be in the final. Andy Turner, a bronze medallist in Daegu

:49:33.:49:37.

has given his prediction and he reckons the USA will take a clean

:49:37.:49:45.

sweep, do you agree? You have got the wild card that the Americans

:49:45.:49:49.

have four, a real good chance there but they will all have to do a lot

:49:49.:49:53.

better than they did today. So David Oliver did not have a great start,

:49:53.:50:00.

and Aries Merritt, he is caught up in a bit of a situation the weather

:50:00.:50:03.

the start was fair or not great so all of them will have to do better

:50:03.:50:09.

in the final. But I think that they will wipe the brow and say at least

:50:09.:50:17.

it was a good thing it was a semifinal. I think that Shubenkov

:50:17.:50:20.

will get in there and makes that up because he will be pumped up.

:50:20.:50:25.

crowd love that. He shows that there are more ways to skin a cat, more

:50:25.:50:29.

than one way to do the hurdles and more than one technique that works

:50:29.:50:34.

because he is very compact and yet not quite as elegant as some people

:50:34.:50:40.

next to Aries Merritt, if you put it like that, his style is not as

:50:40.:50:44.

aesthetically pleasing. That is not very nice! We have seen him indoors,

:50:44.:50:49.

he is tight and compact and what he does really well, he can sneak up on

:50:49.:50:55.

you because he is always there, he can hurdle nine and ten and creeps

:50:55.:51:00.

up on you. He is effective, he is a tall athlete and he is a tidy

:51:00.:51:05.

hurdler. And I agree with Mike, he will upset the party. It will not be

:51:05.:51:10.

a clean sweep, I don't think. final later on, made all the better

:51:10.:51:13.

that Will Sharman will be there for us and add a British interest. You

:51:13.:51:21.

see the successful lean from Sharman. One 100th of a second, the

:51:21.:51:26.

margins of the sport can be so cruel it can work against you or against

:51:26.:51:30.

you, when it works for you it is brilliant. We are delighted for him

:51:30.:51:34.

and that sport, it is sometimes very painful when you at the other side

:51:34.:51:39.

of that decision. But great for Will Sharman. We have got plenty coming

:51:39.:51:43.

up for you this evening, lots of finals. If you have just come in and

:51:43.:51:50.

wanted a reminder of what they are, have a look at this. At 4:35pm, the

:51:50.:51:53.

women's 100 metres semifinals and the heptathlon going on with 200

:51:53.:51:58.

metres, the semifinals of the 400m with Kirani James and LaShawn

:51:58.:52:01.

Merritt going on as well. We have got a packed evening, Valerie Adams

:52:01.:52:07.

in the shot put, just about everything available, she has won

:52:07.:52:11.

back twice but denied the gold in London last year. If she wins it

:52:11.:52:14.

tonight, it will be doubly celebrated and Christine Ohuruogu

:52:14.:52:20.

and Amantle Montsho, the two main protagonists going in the 400m later

:52:20.:52:23.

on which is probably the race we are most looking forward to, Denise,

:52:23.:52:29.

would you say? Absolutely! I will endeavour to stay in my seat because

:52:29.:52:32.

I really hope Christine... It is safe to say that she will get a

:52:32.:52:37.

medal but which colour, I am still not sure. Let's hope it is gold!

:52:37.:52:43.

multi-event for the women started today, and we are without Jessica

:52:43.:52:46.

Ennis-Hill who is out because of injury but we have Katarina

:52:46.:52:50.

Johnson-Thompson going very well at the moment but it is Jess's Olympic

:52:50.:52:53.

gold that we all remember last year and hoped we could see her once

:52:53.:53:03.
:53:03.:53:07.

again becoming world champion in That from the left-hand side and she

:53:07.:53:14.

is away strongly here. Belgium is going well but it will be a very

:53:14.:53:18.

good time indeed, that is a cracking start to her aspirations to win this

:53:19.:53:28.
:53:29.:53:37.

watch the clock, it could be crucial, she is flying and she

:53:37.:53:47.
:53:47.:53:53.

certainly has produced a lifetime throw. Not very quick and it is not

:53:53.:54:00.

very long but 43.54 is a very solid start indeed. It has been a long,

:54:00.:54:04.

hard, gruelling two days but if things stay the way they are, we are

:54:04.:54:10.

looking at a world champion and she's coming once more. Great

:54:10.:54:16.

Britain has found another great star. The girl from the city of

:54:16.:54:26.
:54:26.:54:30.

steel came to Berlin hunting for ago in Burling, so much has happened

:54:30.:54:35.

since Angie is missed, isn't she? Not just us, the whole event because

:54:35.:54:38.

she is such a golden girl and a great athlete and we miss watching

:54:38.:54:43.

her. Yes, she lifts the spirits but that performance in 2009 was really

:54:43.:54:50.

the start of the Jessica Ennis-Hill dominance over the event and

:54:50.:54:54.

considering she has had that dreadful setback in 2008, the

:54:54.:54:59.

injured foot and ankle, that cost her a place in the Olympics, she

:54:59.:55:04.

could not go, her season was wiped out, she came back and is completely

:55:04.:55:08.

annihilated the field. Was that the first time... Because she had to

:55:09.:55:13.

change her lead off foot in the long jump, because of the injury before?

:55:13.:55:17.

She would have competed in May, but that was the first major

:55:17.:55:20.

championships and so it is great to see her and she went from strength

:55:20.:55:23.

to strength, building on her strength and her throw has got

:55:23.:55:30.

better. We saw that athlete in her in the Olympics, the darling of our

:55:30.:55:34.

nation. She has revealed today or in the last 24 hours that she will

:55:34.:55:36.

compete in the Commonwealth Games next year in Glasgow which is

:55:36.:55:42.

fantastic news. Let's have a catch up with the heptathlon, two events

:55:42.:55:51.

COMMENTATOR: Not only Jessica Ennis-Hill missing, but the Russian

:55:51.:55:56.

defending champion who is also not there. We had to wait until he'd

:55:56.:56:01.

four of the hurdles before we saw the first sign of Katarina

:56:01.:56:03.

Johnson-Thompson who faded a little bit in the mid-race but came through

:56:03.:56:13.

strongly in the end, it was completed by the Russian and...

:56:13.:56:20.

Ashton Eaton, the leader's husband who won the decathlon and is the

:56:20.:56:25.

world record-holder supporting his wife and she obliged in the high

:56:25.:56:31.

jump. 1.86 metres, she was followed by Katarina Johnson-Thompson, 1.83

:56:31.:56:38.

metres. And she was coming on stronger as the event progressed.

:56:38.:56:44.

1016 points for Katarina. The Ukrainian had a huge amount of

:56:44.:56:52.

support in the stadium. She jumped 1.86 metres. And then 18-year-old

:56:52.:57:02.
:57:02.:57:04.

Amy Kiam from Belgium -- Tian. And then they shot but, 4135, some big

:57:04.:57:07.

points for the American. And she would have climbed up the table with

:57:07.:57:14.

that, she was lying in fifth place after the first two events and then

:57:14.:57:24.
:57:24.:57:29.

we had the lady in second place, Theisen Eaton and then still waiting

:57:29.:57:34.

for Katarina Johnson-Thompson to pretty something because she fouled

:57:34.:57:37.

in the first round, this was the second round and which is pretty

:57:38.:57:41.

Phil Jones out in the training camp, it was going to be a weak event and

:57:41.:57:51.
:57:51.:57:53.

so it proved to be, 11.37, her best stadium, she is waiting to take her

:57:53.:57:57.

third round throw. If she can get another 50 centimetres or so, that

:57:57.:58:02.

would be very good indeed for the British number one here in Moscow.

:58:02.:58:07.

Katarina moves into fourth place after the high jump. So certainly in

:58:07.:58:10.

with a shout of finishing in the top six but she has to get through day

:58:10.:58:15.

two, and after the shot put, we have the final event of the heptathlon on

:58:15.:58:20.

day one, the 200 metres. GABBY LOGAN: Katarina

:58:20.:58:24.

Johnson-Thompson, at the beginning of the year, she thought she was

:58:24.:58:28.

getting more experience under the tutelage of Jessica Ennis-Hill,

:58:28.:58:35.

seeing her as her mental, who she can follow up behind. It gives her a

:58:35.:58:40.

different dynamic and responsibility that you maybe wasn't expecting.

:58:40.:58:44.

wasn't sure if it was a positive or negative, but it thrusts her into

:58:44.:58:48.

the limelight which I am not sure if she is ready for. She competed very

:58:48.:58:53.

well in London, she loved that stage but looking at her body language

:58:53.:58:58.

right now, in an event she does not like, particularly. I do not get

:58:58.:59:06.

positive vibes from her but I hope she really gets a positive throw.

:59:06.:59:08.

She was waiting for another athlete to finish but she certainly looks

:59:08.:59:14.

pensive. Guess, because she knows that other girls are much stronger.

:59:14.:59:18.

It is a really turning point for this event, she happily will throw

:59:18.:59:27.

it better. 619 points for Katarina, come on. Drive across and hit it.

:59:27.:59:32.

Well... I honestly don't know, I think it is maybe a little further

:59:32.:59:38.

but this is an event where she does struggle and so her body language is

:59:38.:59:48.

all wrong. She was confident in the high jump, she is a 1.89 metres

:59:48.:59:51.

performer but 11.52, that is an improvement that she is down in 14th

:59:51.:59:59.

place. -- but she is down. We are getting excited for the semifinals

:59:59.:00:09.

of the women's 100 metres, we have got Cribari but is there a chance we

:00:09.:00:14.

might get our first British woman in a World Championship ever final?

:00:14.:00:19.

It will be really tough and I am being honest. She will have to run

:00:19.:00:25.

her heart out. She will have to run a personal best to do it. She has

:00:25.:00:28.

got opponents in very fine form. A couple of Jamaicans to perform

:00:28.:00:33.

against so she must try to repeat what she did in that opening round

:00:33.:00:39.

where she got a great start and she needs that now. She has had a hard

:00:39.:00:44.

time of it after an horrendous injury, she is on the start line.

:00:44.:00:48.

Fantastic experience of nothing else. Yes and hopefully she is

:00:48.:00:51.

looking at it that way. She is looking there and I would be running

:00:51.:00:58.

against the light of Blessing Okagbare. She can actually get

:00:58.:01:04.

caught up in that and run a good phrase, she has had a good track,

:01:04.:01:09.

next to Calvert who has a good start every time. If she gets a good start

:01:09.:01:12.

and gets into the drive and runs her own race, she will have to deliver

:01:12.:01:22.
:01:22.:01:30.

that. Asha Philip looking a little nervous. This is obviously the level

:01:30.:01:34.

of competition she will have dreams of getting into, through all of

:01:34.:01:38.

those injury problems. She is finally here. But this is really

:01:38.:01:43.

tough. Three semi-finals, the first two and two fastest will be going

:01:43.:01:53.
:01:53.:02:31.

through to the final in a couple of back in April and then ran 11.06 in

:02:31.:02:39.

the final in the Trinidad Championships. Povkh of Ukraine in

:02:39.:02:48.

lane three. She is a fast starter. Gold Cup what does not club Bari,

:02:48.:02:57.

when she worked #. She is in the form of her life and will be the

:02:57.:03:07.
:03:07.:03:17.

busiest athlete in these her dad was a big influence on her

:03:17.:03:23.

early career. He was a bit of a basketball player. A brilliant

:03:23.:03:31.

sprinter. From Florida. Sailer finding some form. She's been around

:03:31.:03:41.
:03:41.:03:51.

getting a chance on a big stage. Calvert was third in the Jamaican

:03:51.:04:01.
:04:01.:04:09.

rounds, we saw Gardner running a very different sort of heat to

:04:09.:04:13.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. This time, there's not too much room for

:04:13.:04:23.
:04:23.:04:23.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:04:23.:05:10.

messing around. The final later on. Freeman is there, Sailer is there.

:05:10.:05:16.

Just the first two. It's going to be the two big names, Okagbare and

:05:16.:05:20.

Freeman. Sailer ran well but couldn't hold onto these two. Not

:05:20.:05:30.
:05:30.:05:32.

particularly fast, but it was good enough. Povkh gets out so quickly.

:05:32.:05:38.

It was always going to be difficult for Asha Philip. Okagbare is a

:05:38.:05:42.

danger, you cannot write her off. I know with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

:05:42.:05:46.

and Camilla Jeter and the rest of it, but when she comes through this

:05:46.:05:50.

strongly, if she gets it right at the start, she will be a big danger

:05:50.:05:54.

in the final. She is strong, she proved that in the long jump

:05:54.:05:58.

yesterday. She's already got that silver medal in the bag. But I think

:05:58.:06:02.

the focus will now be on this 100. She's got a really lovely running

:06:02.:06:08.

gait. She always looks very relaxed. As it comes to the back end of the

:06:09.:06:12.

race, she opens up her stride. Cruising across the line to take the

:06:12.:06:17.

victory in 11.08. I think she still will have her work cut out unless

:06:17.:06:23.

she can really sort out that start. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has got that

:06:23.:06:27.

bullet like start in comparison. Let's have a closer look at Asha

:06:27.:06:33.

Philip. Out of the blocks well, the drive is really hard, head still

:06:33.:06:38.

down, working all the way through. Watch when she pops head up and

:06:38.:06:44.

starts to focus. She needs to keep her relaxation, keep working well,

:06:44.:06:49.

try and put herself through. She manages to finish seventh in that

:06:49.:06:56.

semifinal. Not sure how she will feel about that. Of course, that's

:06:56.:07:00.

what she wanted to do, a personal best here. But I think it's

:07:00.:07:07.

important that you still work hard and concentrate. Now she's talking

:07:07.:07:14.

with Phil. Colin Jackson making the point about there may be some mixed

:07:14.:07:19.

feelings, the fact you are here at all is tremendous. But you wanted a

:07:19.:07:23.

personal best. How would you sum it up? I'm slightly disappointed. I

:07:23.:07:28.

came here to run a PB and I didn't achieve it, but it's a learning

:07:28.:07:32.

curve. I'm learning as days go on a the Championship, it's lovely to be

:07:32.:07:38.

here. I am disappointed but I can only work from this. What was going

:07:38.:07:44.

through your mind at the start, have the nerves settle down? I was

:07:44.:07:48.

nervous. I was more controlled and thought, yeah, I can do this. My

:07:48.:07:54.

race wasn't as great as I thought it would be. My coach will moan at me.

:07:54.:07:57.

But I don't know, I'm not in that complaining good because I

:07:57.:08:04.

experienced it, I've done it once now. So the next time, hopefully I

:08:04.:08:14.
:08:14.:08:40.

can make a final. And you want more There are two men in the competition

:08:40.:08:44.

called Lavillenie, one is the Olympic champion, Renaud Lavillenie.

:08:44.:08:48.

This is his younger brother, Valentin Lavillenie. This is an

:08:48.:08:54.

important job for this youngster. Third and final attempt at 5.50. His

:08:54.:08:58.

brother, who hasn't started yet, is halfway down the runway, just

:08:58.:09:08.
:09:08.:09:30.

bar. He certainly has jumped this will attempt to win his first ever

:09:30.:09:40.
:09:40.:09:48.

world title here. He's very upset didn't have the depth over the bar.

:09:48.:09:58.
:09:58.:10:17.

here. Only this woman went below 11 seconds in the first round. It was

:10:18.:10:26.

extraordinary, she went out hard and fast, left nothing out there. She

:10:26.:10:36.
:10:36.:10:47.

ran 10.94. The intensity was to the crowd, but her focus is

:10:47.:10:53.

absolute at the moment. The South American champion also looked good

:10:53.:11:03.
:11:03.:11:13.

for the first time, she's not wearing all the strapping on her

:11:13.:11:18.

right thigh that she did yesterday. She struggled out of the blocks

:11:18.:11:23.

yesterday, she has struggled all season with a quad injury. She's not

:11:23.:11:30.

in the kind of form to go to the world title two years ago. Brooks,

:11:30.:11:36.

former Commonwealth champion. Perhaps the weakest of the Jamaicans

:11:36.:11:40.

on display in this 100m, fourth in the Jamaican Championships. The

:11:40.:11:50.
:11:50.:12:27.

line-up completed by the Nigerian English Gardner got out so quickly

:12:28.:12:37.
:12:38.:13:04.

just two to go through automatically. Jeter dips and comes

:13:04.:13:10.

back, she is still strong. Jeter takes the victory. The defending

:13:10.:13:14.

champion is into the final. She timed that well. We worried about

:13:14.:13:23.

her. Worry no more, perhaps. English Gardner started well but faded a

:13:23.:13:28.

little as the race went on. Not so, Carmelita Jeter. It's really great

:13:28.:13:33.

to see, leader Jeter back. We saw her run the last leg in Monaco and

:13:33.:13:37.

she looked very good, but then she was struggling with her form. Now

:13:37.:13:40.

look how she relies on this wonderful technique that has been

:13:40.:13:45.

honed by her coach, John Smith. She calls herself through and then just

:13:45.:13:51.

out leans her and going sub 11 seconds. That is a very important

:13:51.:13:58.

thing for us to see. English Gardner exploded, but I don't think she had

:13:58.:14:02.

the same pick-up as she had in the heats. She was under pressure quite

:14:02.:14:06.

early compared to the heats. But look at this, this is good, strong

:14:06.:14:12.

running by these women. It's nice to see that. Very competitive. Coming

:14:12.:14:16.

towards the line, let's have a look at this. As they came to the line,

:14:16.:14:26.
:14:26.:14:27.

if you watch Jeter... I think she clashes. They are coming closer and

:14:27.:14:37.
:14:37.:14:37.

closer to each other. She avoids are there just. Jeter very close to the

:14:37.:14:42.

inside of her lane there. Gardner run out of it. She is on 11 seconds

:14:42.:14:52.
:14:52.:14:55.

where she ran 10.94. 11 seconds flat might still be good enough, two

:14:55.:15:05.
:15:05.:15:12.

impressive was the weather at Carmelita Jeter came through and the

:15:12.:15:18.

way English Gardner finished. GABBY LOGAN: English Gardner might

:15:18.:15:24.

have had a late start that it is how you finish and Carmelita Jeter,

:15:24.:15:31.

almost out of her lane. Yet this, wasn't she just. Yes, wasn't she

:15:31.:15:35.

just. This is a different woman to the one we saw yesterday. She is

:15:35.:15:41.

favouring that side, the whole race. I do not know if that is her quad

:15:42.:15:51.
:15:52.:15:52.

injury but if she tries to hold that but also another athlete, Ahoure is

:15:52.:15:56.

close to her line but it is great to see them both get through. We have

:15:56.:16:01.

seen Ahoure run very well, she was winning in Monaco and she will be

:16:01.:16:04.

one to watch. English garden will be hoping that the next race, the final

:16:04.:16:09.

semifinal is not the quickest and she will make it through as the

:16:09.:16:14.

fastest loser. -- English Gardner. Pleased with what appears to be

:16:14.:16:21.

Carmelita Jeter's comeback? Five metres from the line, she felt

:16:21.:16:27.

herself started to go over into the lane of Ahoure and basically shut

:16:27.:16:31.

down, and still run under 11 seconds so when I look at this final, later

:16:31.:16:37.

this evening, she has to be the favourite at this point. It will

:16:37.:16:41.

give Carmelita Jeter a tremendous amount of confidence going into this

:16:41.:16:46.

final, especially after a quad injury which is one of the most

:16:46.:16:49.

difficult to overcome. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce goes in the final of

:16:49.:16:53.

the semifinals which is just over my shoulder, you can see they are

:16:53.:16:57.

lining up on the track, getting ready for this, she will no about

:16:57.:17:04.

that race, and she will know that 11 seconds was set, they will want to

:17:04.:17:08.

be one of the fastest losers, and it puts added pressure on to these

:17:08.:17:14.

girls. Not in the mind of this young lady! She is fierce. She is very

:17:14.:17:20.

confident and I think she will know what she has to do. She is

:17:20.:17:24.

experienced, a double Olympic champion so she is ready to go.

:17:24.:17:30.

Let's hand down to Steve Cram. COMMENTATOR: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

:17:30.:17:33.

looked very comfortable in qualification, and what does she

:17:33.:17:37.

have installed today? She will have just seen Carmelita Jeter run very

:17:37.:17:42.

well the and we have got the result from the second semifinal.

:17:42.:17:46.

Confirming that the two women were given the same time, Carmelita Jeter

:17:46.:17:56.
:17:56.:18:10.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be joined by a team-mate, Stewart,

:18:10.:18:20.
:18:20.:18:29.

form as she was in last year. Pinto of Germany having a good year. She

:18:29.:18:36.

is sitting in the mixed zone in the steps, the fastest loser. Ivet

:18:36.:18:45.

Lalova, she qualified probably. But is not far of the season's best.

:18:45.:18:52.

Stewart, it was said back in 2008, Silver medal, it was looking that

:18:52.:18:54.

she might win it but Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce came through to take

:18:54.:19:03.

the victory. Anderson, the fourth American. Or to make it through

:19:03.:19:11.

here? Carmelita Jeter beating English Gardner, and English Gardner

:19:11.:19:16.

the fastest loser. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was the impressive one

:19:16.:19:21.

in qualification, the most impressive. Double Olympic champion.

:19:21.:19:31.
:19:31.:19:33.

World champion in 2009, and Gloria of Nigeria. . Okagbare won the first

:19:33.:19:40.

semifinal, her team-mate, Okagbare based in the US these days, though.

:19:40.:19:45.

Ferguson, of the Bahamas, where have all the sprinters gone. Not related

:19:45.:19:48.

to Debbie Ferguson who led the team so well for so many years,

:19:48.:19:58.
:19:58.:20:14.

the two fastest losers spots. We might not need to go under 11

:20:14.:20:19.

seconds here but I am sure if she can, it will be Shelly-Ann

easy. That is head and shoulders above what we have seen so far.

:21:12.:21:15.

Fraser-Pryce cruised through the qualification round and that didn't

:21:15.:21:18.

look that much more difficult for her, a decent start, pretty good

:21:18.:21:25.

start but after that, it is serene sprinting. Steve, I don't even think

:21:25.:21:30.

she put her down onto the blocks. A reasonable reaction but nothing like

:21:30.:21:35.

we were next back but what we have seen this year, we have seen have

:21:35.:21:39.

holding on the speed endurance, giving her the opportunity to get

:21:39.:21:43.

the back-end of the race and just hold form to get these real fast

:21:43.:21:47.

times and we have already seen her run 10.7 this year, I am thinking

:21:47.:21:55.

she could run under 10.70, this is great sprinting once again. Stewart

:21:55.:22:04.

from Jamaica also under 11 seconds with 10.97. But look at the

:22:04.:22:08.

favourite for this title, the Olympic champion, one of the fastest

:22:08.:22:11.

woman we have ever seen on this planet. And look how she qualifies

:22:11.:22:20.

for the final. Good, nice form. So solid and championships and I am

:22:20.:22:26.

wondering if all these women will be thinking to themselves, let's make

:22:26.:22:32.

it more than five women under 11 seconds, two equalled the men's

:22:32.:22:38.

statistics. Only one time when the championship final has not been won

:22:38.:22:41.

in under 11 seconds, that was in a saga and I have a feeling that will

:22:42.:22:48.

not happen tonight. There you have it. It means that Alex Anderson will

:22:48.:22:51.

join English Gardner as the fastest loser in that final, four

:22:51.:23:00.

Americans, two Jamaicans, one from Ivory Coast and one from Nigeria.

:23:00.:23:03.

The pole vault bar has moved up to 5.65 metres and this is Renaud

:23:03.:23:09.

Lavillenie. We have seen his younger brother be eliminated, there he is,

:23:09.:23:13.

watching. Making his entry into the competition. Speeding down the

:23:13.:23:23.
:23:23.:23:26.

these French brothers had for breakfast? Things not going too well

:23:26.:23:30.

in the liver Lunny household when it comes to pole vaulting. But he has

:23:30.:23:40.
:23:40.:23:42.

got two more attempts. -- in the liver household. But could count

:23:42.:23:49.

against him, normally he would sail over that sort of height. So problem

:23:49.:23:52.

early doors for the French favourites, we saw Sergey Bubka

:23:52.:23:58.

earlier on today and he reckons this guy will win.

:23:58.:24:05.

GABBY LOGAN: Lavillenie will not worry too much, we saw him go for a

:24:05.:24:11.

world record in London, an early wobble for him. He saw his brother

:24:11.:24:18.

crashed out, and he was in tears. If he wants to cheer up, the last time

:24:18.:24:21.

a parent brothers appeared in the watcher midget finals, one of them

:24:21.:24:25.

won gold. Sergey Bubka in 1993 was joined by his brother Vasily and

:24:25.:24:31.

Sergey Bubka one. I do not need to worry too much. Let's talk

:24:31.:24:35.

sprinting, though. Will it now be Fraser-Pryce and Carmelita Jeter,

:24:35.:24:43.

the main two to watch? Those two are obviously two of the best in the

:24:43.:24:48.

world and have been for the last couple of years. I was impressed by

:24:48.:24:53.

the Jamaican who now has experience, and we're now seeing the young

:24:53.:24:59.

sprinters who have come along in the last of years, Octavius Freeman.

:24:59.:25:05.

could either of those the antelope is tonight? Shelly-Ann

:25:05.:25:08.

Fraser-Pryce, it looked like a coach was sitting in the stands and pushed

:25:08.:25:12.

a remote and she started running! There was no effort at all. It was

:25:12.:25:17.

unbelievable. This is like Usain Bolt where he runs for 30 minutes

:25:18.:25:21.

and then can shutdown -- runs for 30 metres. I would agree with Colin, I

:25:21.:25:25.

am not sure she put her foot down completely coming out of the blocks,

:25:25.:25:28.

this is textbook, a form is incredible, technique is flawless

:25:28.:25:33.

and there is very little effort and so it is easy for her. Out of the

:25:33.:25:38.

blocks, she did not put her foot down but she did everything right in

:25:38.:25:42.

this race and this is not 100% so this will be an incredible final and

:25:42.:25:48.

this, obviously, it is hers to lose at the moment. You mentioned the

:25:48.:25:51.

others and there are names who have been pushing these two. Is it

:25:51.:25:55.

another year they have got to hold the crowd before those girls then

:25:56.:26:05.
:26:06.:26:06.

assume the mantle? I think that Jamaican was good, Carmelita Jeter

:26:06.:26:13.

as well and shutting down was still very impressive but I think the

:26:13.:26:18.

Jamaican could push for the silver against Carmelita Jeter. Shelly-Ann

:26:19.:26:25.

Fraser-Pryce, it is hers to lose but then these new sprinters, some of

:26:25.:26:30.

them have had long college season from the US. We'll talk more about

:26:30.:26:36.

that, the fanfare behind this means we are moving from 100 metres to

:26:36.:26:39.

10,000 because Tirunesh Dibaba is back in the stadium and Steve will

:26:39.:26:49.

COMMENTATOR: The medal ceremony was not going to be held last night so

:26:49.:26:55.

it is very nice for these three athletes to receive the medal is in

:26:55.:27:03.

now a decent crowd, not as many as 4000 metres last night. -- as for

:27:03.:27:12.

the 100 metres last night. Japan led for so long and constructed the race

:27:12.:27:19.

for the three to come on. But there is one other big race and this was

:27:19.:27:29.
:27:29.:27:33.

the result, she finished behind her illustrious team-mate. She just,

:27:33.:27:39.

just pipped Emily Chebet on the post, and just missing out on a

:27:39.:27:49.
:27:49.:27:57.

glances to see, Gladys Cherono who was flying the flag for Kenya and

:27:57.:28:03.

Dibaba will have watched a few years ago when Linet Masai came and beat

:28:03.:28:07.

her, Meseret Defar came and claimed the world title but this time, Kenya

:28:07.:28:11.

could not find a way. She has never lost a 10,000 metres race, Tirunesh

:28:11.:28:19.

Dibaba. It was ten years ago, she won her first world title in Paris.

:28:19.:28:26.

Climbing onto the rostrum, that is a big step for someone of her

:28:26.:28:30.

diminutive stature but she has done this so many times. If she is not

:28:30.:28:36.

already the best we have ever seen, then she has continued to amass gold

:28:36.:28:40.

medals which heavily weigh the argument in her favour as the

:28:40.:28:44.

greatest all-time female distance runner. Tirunesh Dibaba, the world

:28:44.:28:54.
:28:54.:28:54.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:28:54.:29:54.

she will not be going for the double this championships, she is capable

:29:54.:29:58.

of winning a gold in the 5000 metres as well but the Ethiopian team

:29:58.:30:01.

management decided only one race, leading the way for Meseret Defar to

:30:01.:30:05.

take gold perhaps in the 5000 metres so that is the work done at these

:30:05.:30:15.
:30:15.:30:25.

World Championships, but it was second attempt. This is Bjorn Otto,

:30:25.:30:35.
:30:35.:30:44.

first line says, if it wasn't for Reynold Lavillenie, this man would

:30:44.:30:49.

be the champion. He must hate the French man! Is it time for revenge?

:30:49.:30:59.
:30:59.:31:25.

That was good, that will give him semi-finals next. Without LaShawn

:31:25.:31:29.

Merritt and Kirani James in the first heat, it's the second two that

:31:29.:31:33.

are the juiciest. There is nobody that can beat them, the two of them

:31:33.:31:37.

have ran the fastest 11 times this year. It's a bit like the women's

:31:37.:31:43.

with One Show and Ohuruogu, they are the two to beat. There's a huge gap

:31:43.:31:46.

between Kirani James and LaShawn Merritt and the rest of the field.

:31:46.:31:49.

They are the only ones that are capable, the only once you've ever

:31:50.:31:54.

ran under 44 seconds. There's been a huge void in that event over the

:31:54.:32:01.

last few years, but for the fact that we have LaShawn Merritt and

:32:01.:32:03.

Kirani James. They make it interesting because they are quite

:32:03.:32:09.

evenly matched. They are both high 43s right now, that's what I'd

:32:09.:32:14.

expect on a really good day from either one of them. Both of them can

:32:14.:32:21.

much -- and much faster. They both have World Championships, they both

:32:21.:32:26.

have Olympic gold medals. They are both very nice guys from what I can

:32:26.:32:30.

tell. But they don't quite likely to that, I don't think. That's very

:32:30.:32:34.

good because it will bring out the best in both of them. Very nice guys

:32:34.:32:39.

both of them, very humble and great competitors. The only thing is, I

:32:39.:32:45.

would give, in all honesty, in terms of pure ability, I would give a

:32:45.:32:50.

slight edge to LaShawn Merritt, because he can run a very fast 200m.

:32:50.:32:54.

There is Kirani James is not a 200 runner. Kirani James's form, kind of

:32:54.:32:59.

like a hurdler we were talking about earlier, it's not quite tidy. But

:32:59.:33:03.

he's a great athlete and a great finisher and an incredible

:33:03.:33:07.

competitor. If he is leading, it's very difficult for anyone to pass.

:33:07.:33:13.

We haven't seen that. It will be a very interesting race. Neither of

:33:13.:33:18.

them are in the first heat. We do have one of the Borlee Brothers,

:33:18.:33:22.

Kevin, to look out for, and McQuay of the USA as well. Let's hand you

:33:22.:33:32.
:33:32.:33:42.

the Belgian champion this year, bronze medallist at the World

:33:42.:33:48.

Championships two years ago. Henry cares has really started to emerge

:33:48.:33:58.
:33:58.:34:37.

this year. Just missed out at the going to have to go some. Brian

:34:38.:34:45.

Gregan, like everybody here who is not amongst those big names, McQuay,

:34:45.:34:51.

Borlee, looking for perhaps a personal best out of this semifinal.

:34:51.:34:58.

The first two and the first -- two fastest for the semifinal. Nigel

:34:58.:35:08.
:35:08.:35:22.

Levine goes in the third of the go out hard Lane eight and try and

:35:22.:35:27.

keep themselves involved in the race. It is Henriques who has

:35:27.:35:37.
:35:37.:35:44.

started the quickest through the might put himself right in this as

:35:44.:35:54.
:35:54.:36:05.

takes it, 44.61. That's a big personal best. I said he had to be

:36:05.:36:09.

much better, he looked really rabid in qualification. Maybe he will

:36:09.:36:16.

say, well, I needed that run to get it out of my system. But this man,

:36:16.:36:23.

out in lane eight, that is really, really impressive. I don't know if

:36:23.:36:28.

you know Masrahi very well, but that is a big run out in Lane eight.

:36:28.:36:35.

don't know him very well but his coach, John Smith, I know him very

:36:35.:36:41.

well. John Smith will coach an athlete to his best ability. This is

:36:41.:36:46.

very good running for Masrahi out in Lane eight. It is a very difficult

:36:46.:36:51.

lane to run from. He took it out very well for the first 200, then he

:36:51.:36:57.

relaxed. He checked to see where everyone else is will stop he will

:36:57.:37:02.

find out when he comes of this curb that he is in a decent position.

:37:02.:37:07.

Good running by McQuay, the American, who we have had lots of

:37:07.:37:12.

big hopes for over the past couple of years, but he didn't live up to

:37:12.:37:15.

that. Now he's coming back a bit. Not many people can say they ran

:37:15.:37:21.

their personal best out of Lane eight, and that is what he did here.

:37:21.:37:27.

Very good form, very efficient running. You can see there's not a

:37:28.:37:35.

lot of wasted motion here. You can see a bit of a shutdown right there,

:37:35.:37:38.

you wouldn't normally do that in the middle of the track, but in Lane

:37:38.:37:45.

eight that's the best thing to do. Now he just relaxes and brings it

:37:45.:37:47.

home. Very relaxed coming home because he has conserved. That tells

:37:47.:37:53.

me there may be a little bit more from him. They could be more from

:37:53.:37:56.

him and another personal best, which could put him in place for one of

:37:56.:38:02.

those medals. After Kirani James and LaShawn Merritt, it's pretty much

:38:02.:38:06.

open. Very impressive, a new national record for the American

:38:06.:38:16.
:38:16.:38:16.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:38:16.:38:59.

vault. Reynold Lavillenie has this my mind, he is still the favourite.

:38:59.:39:05.

That his younger brother, who has been eliminated. That shows you the

:39:05.:39:09.

sort of form that has taken him out to six metres plus this year. Brad

:39:09.:39:19.
:39:19.:39:22.

Walker is a former world champion Cool, calm and collected celebration

:39:22.:39:32.
:39:32.:39:40.

and looked down, you'd just see how high that is. We used to make the

:39:40.:39:50.
:39:50.:39:53.

comparison to a double-decker bus, 400m later this evening. Already,

:39:53.:39:57.

many suggesting that tomorrow's final in the men's 400 will be a

:39:57.:40:02.

duel between this man, LaShawn Merritt, and Kirani James. That

:40:02.:40:04.

performance by Masrahi in the previous semifinal alters the

:40:05.:40:10.

complexion slightly, but realistic, Merritt and Kirani James are a

:40:10.:40:20.
:40:20.:41:00.

strength in the 400 as they do in the shorter sprints. Jonathan Borlee

:41:00.:41:05.

is the Belgian record holder. The younger brother still, Dylan, is

:41:05.:41:15.
:41:15.:41:29.

drugs test is it should be mentioned. But competing again,

:41:29.:41:39.
:41:39.:41:44.

running well. Former Olympic and world champion. Melendaez is the

:41:44.:41:54.
:41:54.:41:54.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:41:54.:43:23.

automatically and the next two to take care, first two only to go

:43:23.:43:28.

through automatically. Jonathan Borlee going well around the bend.

:43:28.:43:31.

Borlee leads them into the home straight. LaShawn Merritt knows what

:43:31.:43:39.

he has to do. He eases up a gear. LaShawn Merritt comes through.

:43:39.:43:43.

Borlee now looking round. Chris Brown coming through to see and hope

:43:43.:43:51.

if he can make it through to the final. And officially, 44.61, a

:43:51.:43:59.

stroll for LaShawn Merritt. Michael Johnson is watching, what did you

:43:59.:44:04.

make of this? A very controlled race with LaShawn Merritt out in Lane

:44:04.:44:11.

six. This is really hard way to do it. You mentioned about this point

:44:11.:44:16.

in the race, he is a 200 metre runner, so he could run the first

:44:16.:44:21.

200 a little quicker, making it easy on himself in the home stretch. I'm

:44:21.:44:25.

not sure I'm crazy about the way he ran this race, but some athletes

:44:25.:44:30.

really struggle with how to run the race in the rounds, when they know

:44:30.:44:35.

they can win the race either way. He knows he can but at this point he's

:44:35.:44:40.

got Borlee out in front of him. Now he's got a bit of work to do. This

:44:40.:44:46.

takes more energy, to have to pick up a gear with 100 to go, than it

:44:46.:44:50.

does to be able to just shut it down when you are ahead and just cruise

:44:50.:44:54.

on for the finish line. LaShawn Merritt will be in good shape for

:44:54.:44:59.

the final tomorrow. He knows he will have his work cut out for him. He

:44:59.:45:07.

got a good start. I would have cut that pace. I would have liked to

:45:07.:45:13.

have seen him keep pace at 200m. Sometimes he has a little bit below

:45:13.:45:18.

knee lift, and that concerns me as well. I think he can get a lot more

:45:18.:45:25.

power out of that, would you do see in him when he runs the 200m. Very

:45:25.:45:30.

relaxed here. He's a very powerful athlete, and that's what makes him

:45:30.:45:35.

so great. An incredible combination of speed and strength. I think

:45:35.:45:39.

LaShawn Merritt will be happy with that, but I think his coach will

:45:39.:45:42.

definitely want him to run a different strategy in the final

:45:42.:45:52.
:45:52.:46:16.

final, you against Kirani James, is that how you are viewing it? I have

:46:16.:46:23.

my spots now! He's coming up and there will be six other men in

:46:23.:46:33.
:46:33.:46:56.

tonight which is disappointing, still going to be some cracking

:46:56.:46:59.

athletics in both the track and the field here. The pole vault continues

:46:59.:47:02.

and Augusto de Oliveira, he has got a problem, took three attempts to

:47:02.:47:04.

get 5.50. He has had his third and final attempt. The South American

:47:04.:47:08.

record-holder. And somebody who will just be coming into their prime when

:47:09.:47:14.

Rio de Janeiro host the Olympic Games. Last attempt. That was good,

:47:14.:47:24.
:47:24.:47:31.

who have cleared 5.65, only one athlete has been eliminated, and

:47:31.:47:41.
:47:41.:47:41.

that is the Chinese competitor. January issue. And the same of

:47:41.:47:48.

Yamamoto of Japan, a few first-time clearances and that is far too many

:47:48.:47:57.

failures, his downfall at the memorability is in there fighting.

:47:57.:48:01.

From where this camera is sitting, it is directly opposite the finish

:48:01.:48:06.

line and the start of the 400m. Kirani James in this final

:48:06.:48:12.

semifinal, defending champion. And of course the Olympic champion as

:48:12.:48:22.
:48:22.:48:25.

well. On the inside will be the Costa Rican and then Armen Hall who

:48:25.:48:27.

was only forth in the semifinal and finished third in the final so

:48:27.:48:37.

presented the US. The Jamaican and then another 20-year-old, he has

:48:37.:48:41.

already got his world title, his Olympic title, Kirani James and

:48:41.:48:47.

grenade. Only beaten once this year by LaShawn Merritt, that was in

:48:47.:48:57.
:48:57.:48:58.

Eugene. Solomon of Trinidad, his father ran here in Moscow in 19 80,

:48:58.:49:06.

sixth in the 400m. Santa was still a teenager, 19 years of age, was

:49:06.:49:09.

behind Kirani James and took the silver medal at the other big games,

:49:09.:49:19.
:49:19.:49:24.

struggling a little bit this year. -- Santos. The cheque competitor and

:49:24.:49:30.

45 last year. He has got to make any inroads like Nigel Levine, needs to

:49:30.:49:38.

run a big race. The personal best of 45.11, will he be to get close to

:49:38.:49:48.
:49:48.:49:49.

that here? The fastest loser spot at the moment held by Borlee and

:49:49.:49:59.
:49:59.:50:03.

another roller from the first comfortable and this should not be

:50:03.:50:07.

too difficult for Kirani James in the form he has been in this year.

:50:07.:50:17.
:50:17.:50:35.

There he is, almost rubbing his right on the outside. A couple of

:50:35.:50:41.

the second out of him in the first couple of metres by the by the

:50:41.:50:51.
:50:51.:50:52.

cheque competitor. Outside in lane seven, Maslak, Kirani James are

:50:52.:50:58.

starting to move through, and the America has got work to do in lane

:50:58.:51:08.
:51:08.:51:08.

two, just the top two to qualify. Here comes Santos. They have to

:51:08.:51:11.

change gear a bit, they see the danger, just picks it up enough and

:51:11.:51:18.

it was close in the end, it is Santos, almost casually, as was

:51:18.:51:28.
:51:28.:51:31.

James there, not even a lean from Santos or Maslak. I would imagine

:51:31.:51:37.

that Maslak will be very close to his best and may have qualified for

:51:37.:51:42.

the final. What do you make of that, Michael? Kirani James, a bit

:51:42.:51:48.

relaxed? Edit to relax. He was running a slow race from 200 metres

:51:48.:51:54.

and then backed off a little bit. At this point, he is very good. A

:51:54.:51:59.

massive strides that he has, tall athlete, he is in a great position

:51:59.:52:03.

here but he leaves himself a bit of work with 100 metres to go. Because

:52:03.:52:08.

of what happens right here, he did not press here on this turn relaxed

:52:08.:52:14.

a bit too much. I admitted here for him to put it on a bit but he didn't

:52:14.:52:21.

do that and Santos makes a mad dash. A very good race here. He was

:52:21.:52:25.

outside so he didn't know where Kirani James was. But now we know he

:52:25.:52:30.

has him in his size, he runs well, an impressive race by Santos but

:52:30.:52:35.

Kirani James, that was again like we saw in LaShawn Merritt, really did

:52:35.:52:39.

not know how to approach this semifinal. And Nigel Levine was

:52:39.:52:42.

always going to have a difficult time out there in lane eight but he

:52:42.:52:47.

looks very good right here. Great strides but when you see this

:52:47.:52:53.

athlete, the Polish athlete, Maslak, you have to respond. The

:52:53.:53:01.

400m is a race we need to go out with a strategy, but you need a

:53:01.:53:07.

strategy. You have also got to race and the problem is Nigel Levine is

:53:07.:53:09.

not racing, he is executing a strategy which was not working, you

:53:09.:53:16.

must make that change and adjustment. Very difficult day for

:53:16.:53:21.

him, you can see the strain on his face at this point and that last 100

:53:21.:53:26.

metres is tough and may be more difficult when you are not in it for

:53:26.:53:30.

the advancement for the next round, he will take that and learn from it

:53:30.:53:40.
:53:40.:53:40.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:53:40.:54:41.

and very good experience for him to Didn't execute the race he perhaps

:54:41.:54:51.
:54:51.:54:51.

needed to if he was going to get into that final.

:54:51.:54:58.

How would you assess your race from the outside lane? It's quite tough

:54:58.:55:03.

not seeing everybody. It was a terrible race. I didn't expect to do

:55:03.:55:10.

that bad, but I wanted to come in top two in that race. I believe I

:55:10.:55:18.

could have done it. I tried my best. As you can see by the replay. I

:55:18.:55:21.

guess my best wasn't good enough for today. I have to go back and assess

:55:21.:55:28.

what happened and come back next year for the Europeans and the year

:55:28.:55:34.

after. Two years ago I was on the relay and now I've made individual,

:55:34.:55:39.

so it shows I'm progressing. I can't complain. I've just got to be glad

:55:39.:55:45.

I've got the opportunity to compete for my country individually at the

:55:45.:55:48.

World Championships. It shows I'm progressing. What's the biggest

:55:48.:55:56.

lesson learned? Just take it in your stride, don't try and rush things. I

:55:56.:56:00.

made the semifinal, it's quite good because two years ago you didn't

:56:00.:56:04.

even see me, I wasn't good enough. But this year I'm good enough to

:56:04.:56:12.

make the semifinal. Hopefully I need to be stronger and learn a bit more

:56:12.:56:18.

to make the final and compete with these guys. We are moving into some

:56:18.:56:21.

field action soon. It's the women's shot put final tonight. You would be

:56:21.:56:26.

hard-pressed to find an athlete at -- more loved by her fellow

:56:26.:56:30.

competitors and Valerie Adams. She's won every major championship at

:56:30.:56:36.

least once, most of them twice. She was denied the gold last year. She

:56:36.:56:41.

was denied the moment of getting the gold medal in the Olympic Stadium in

:56:41.:56:46.

London, which has even kind of elevated her further into the

:56:46.:56:56.
:56:56.:57:05.

consciousness, as somebody who to recover. It's always very special

:57:06.:57:11.

after an Olympic year, because the two years leading up to that is just

:57:11.:57:16.

Olympics, Olympics, Olympics. Then we have to recover really quickly

:57:16.:57:20.

and get back. My love and my strive to be the best in the world is still

:57:20.:57:24.

there. I'm not getting any younger and I've got to train accordingly.

:57:24.:57:29.

I'm looking forward to the challenge. There are a lot of young

:57:29.:57:33.

girls coming up now. They are trying to get the down but I would go down

:57:33.:57:43.
:57:43.:57:43.

without a fight. You have got this phenomenal record now, 38 victories

:57:43.:57:48.

in a row? You must be so proud of that. Yes, pretty happy, I must

:57:48.:57:53.

thank my coach. He started it with me and we haven't stopped. That is

:57:53.:57:57.

something that we have succeeded together as a team. This is my third

:57:57.:58:01.

year with him and without him, my career would have been done and

:58:01.:58:05.

dusted back in 2010 so I am happy to still be around and I hope to keep

:58:05.:58:14.

that winning streak going for as long as possible. To win, country is

:58:14.:58:18.

enough motivation for me and to have New Zealand up there with the other

:58:18.:58:23.

countries in the world, it is quite amazing. I am dominated by

:58:23.:58:26.

Europeans, by America, by the Chinese and it is great to be

:58:26.:58:31.

someone from New Zealand coming up and beating the rest of them. It

:58:31.:58:35.

coach of mine, he has given me more motivation because I can see the

:58:36.:58:38.

progress as an athlete and I think when you see it, it is easy to

:58:39.:58:44.

continue, to train and go for the gold medals.

:58:44.:58:49.

GABBY LOGAN: There she is, New Zealand's Valerie Adams, she is a

:58:49.:58:53.

huge star back home, she is one of 18 children, her brother is the

:58:53.:58:59.

first Kiwi to be drafted into the NBA. The jeans are good in that

:58:59.:59:06.

family. But she really is a beacon of light in terms of the Kiwi

:59:06.:59:10.

athletic ability -- the genetics are good. Absolutely and for fellow

:59:10.:59:20.

European athletes. The struggle to get amongst sorry, I correct

:59:20.:59:23.

myself, the European athletes have dominated so much and she has come

:59:23.:59:26.

through and become this global icon in an event that most people turn

:59:26.:59:30.

their nose up to. Even within the sport, it is a great event, the shop

:59:30.:59:37.

at. You love your shot put!Yes, I love it and she displays

:59:37.:59:42.

athleticism, strength, power, in such a confined space, it is

:59:42.:59:46.

incredible and she is a wonderful ambassador. Indeed, she is. And I

:59:46.:59:51.

guess, Michael, it shows the kind of variety of athletics. All shapes and

:59:51.:59:55.

sizes and heights. There are many, many disciplines. And lots of people

:59:55.:59:58.

will be watching these championships and will have got engaged in sport

:59:58.:00:01.

last year watching the Olympics as well, and it is important that we

:00:01.:00:05.

are still having this inspirational legacy, if you like with the BBC

:00:05.:00:11.

itself running a campaign, you can find out about it, find out and join

:00:11.:00:16.

clubs but people might be watching this and think they are a big, tall

:00:16.:00:20.

girl and that could be the sport for them. Yes, and Valerie has been a

:00:20.:00:24.

great ambassador for the sport. She is a phenomenal athlete, very

:00:24.:00:30.

elegant as well in addition to the speed and power that she displays.

:00:30.:00:33.

And she has been around for so long as he is one of those athletes who

:00:33.:00:38.

really is able to be consistent year in and year out. That is difficult

:00:38.:00:42.

to achieve. She is one of the superstars of the sport. One final

:00:42.:00:46.

line before we move on to the heptathlon 200 metres, about the

:00:46.:00:50.

semifinals of the men's 400m, we said before that it was LaShawn

:00:51.:00:57.

Merritt and Kirani James of the two to beat, who are the interlopers?

:00:57.:01:06.

think you could put Tony in their and Mizrahi, that is very impressive

:01:06.:01:13.

and so those two and the elliptic silver medallist, 18 years old,

:01:13.:01:21.

Santos. He is getting around to his best time. I think those other guys

:01:21.:01:31.

are the ones who can take him on. saw the first semifinal, when you

:01:31.:01:37.

saw the coach John Smith of Masrahi, he looks like he is very

:01:37.:01:43.

much drilled. Yes, and some people have natural styles that lend

:01:43.:01:46.

themselves to very efficient running. There is not a lot of

:01:46.:01:54.

wasted motion and that is very import it, when you get into the

:01:54.:01:59.

mode of fatigue, the most important, holding form in those final metres

:01:59.:02:03.

when your body wants to go other places and your brain is saying,

:02:03.:02:11.

stop! You have to hold it together, and that comes from strength and

:02:11.:02:17.

form. He started off as an 800 metre runner and eight 1500 metre runner,

:02:17.:02:21.

he must have realised he had great kick. It is not the normal route to

:02:21.:02:28.

go down. He may have been misdiagnosed! And put in the wrong

:02:28.:02:30.

event and somebody eventually figured it out. And somebody

:02:31.:02:35.

discovered that and now he is in the right event. His dad was a

:02:36.:02:38.

professional footballer Sir sport is in the family. After we had about

:02:38.:02:46.

the Adams family. It seems to pass through the genes. Michelle Carter,

:02:47.:02:50.

her dad was Olympic medallist, won the Super Bowl within 12 months.

:02:50.:02:55.

is a legend in the states, the high school record holder as well and he

:02:55.:02:59.

ran out of high school, he ran for his first-team and is a phenomenal

:02:59.:03:09.

athlete. And an Olympic medal and a Super Bowl in the same family.

:03:09.:03:19.
:03:19.:03:24.

Valerie Adams is about to go to the moment. Over 20 metres for Valerie.

:03:24.:03:32.

She makes it look so easy. Michelle Carter with her first throw, 19.92.

:03:32.:03:38.

Schwanitz, of Germany, some way behind the American number one and

:03:38.:03:43.

the American record-holder. But Valerie, there's her coach. She has

:03:44.:03:49.

gone over 20 metres. She makes it look so easy. 20.41. I don't think

:03:49.:03:59.
:03:59.:04:27.

competition, she is only 18 years old. And Theisen Eaton, the wife of

:04:27.:04:32.

the world record-holder in the men's decathlon. We have five heats of the

:04:32.:04:42.
:04:42.:04:56.

the final heat, considered to be one of the fastest women in the field.

:04:56.:05:00.

She is down in 14th place at the moment. She was as high as fourth

:05:00.:05:10.
:05:10.:05:13.

after the high jump, but you had a pool 11.52 she threw. She was close

:05:13.:05:19.

to her personal best in the hurdles this morning. As usual, all of these

:05:19.:05:23.

performances will be converted into points and it will all come out in

:05:23.:05:27.

the wash at the end of the day, in terms of who is leading. But it's

:05:27.:05:37.
:05:37.:05:45.

been a good first day, very good Belarussian running a good bend, but

:05:45.:05:51.

Yfantidou was just in the lead. Marcus and of Norway driving for the

:05:51.:06:01.
:06:01.:06:08.

Estonian number one. Not particularly quick. But it will give

:06:08.:06:18.
:06:18.:06:25.

her 838 points. They are languishing down the bottom end. The Hungarian

:06:25.:06:28.

is inside the top 20 in the standings at the moment. She

:06:28.:06:38.
:06:38.:06:56.

finished OK. It was Klaup who came taken off the track right opposite

:06:56.:06:59.

where the pole vault final is taking place. We've already seen some very

:06:59.:07:09.
:07:09.:07:30.

good pole vaults so far. That this. -- Mohr. You get the

:07:30.:07:33.

impression that Lavillenie and whole step have done the wise thing in

:07:33.:07:41.

passing. They will not be going back into the competition until 5.82. But

:07:41.:07:48.

Mohr, first man to go clear at 5.75. Brad Walker, almost an identical

:07:48.:07:58.
:07:58.:08:13.

doesn't celebrate widely -- wildly, he's got his emotions under control.

:08:13.:08:17.

He calls what Mohr has done, although I think he's got one more

:08:17.:08:24.

failure to his credit. The German will still be in the lead, Brad

:08:24.:08:33.

Walker in second place. The best vault on display today has been

:08:33.:08:36.

whole step. He came in the competition and absolutely flew

:08:36.:08:46.
:08:46.:08:46.

groups of Ukrainian supporters in yellow and blue at either end of the

hurdles. Strong finish from the Algerian. She is finishing quickest

:14:21.:14:27.

of all, the rather tiring towards the end. Some way over half a second

:14:27.:14:34.

outside her personal best. But she does take the victory. It's all

:14:34.:14:39.

about the time. We will do the calculations and add up the points

:14:39.:14:49.

and see where she lives. It's been rounded down to 24.75. 910 points

:14:49.:14:53.

for Omrani. She did exactly the same in the hurdles this morning. Started

:14:53.:15:00.

off slowly but finished very strongly indeed. Hopefully enjoying

:15:00.:15:10.
:15:10.:15:33.

her experience here in this huge second-round throw. 19.22 in the

:15:33.:15:39.

first round. It is a little way off the pace. She is a very solid

:15:39.:15:49.
:15:49.:15:51.

performance. The shot weighs four kg. That is 8.13 ounces. A lot of

:15:51.:15:56.

the youngsters at home will not have a clue what I am talking about.

:15:56.:16:06.
:16:06.:16:12.

Everybody over the age of 40 will be, I am sure! Valerie Adams has

:16:12.:16:16.

achieved a distance in the first round which nobody else in the

:16:16.:16:24.

world this year has got close to. 20.401. More effort end that there

:16:24.:16:32.

are certainly, and perhaps a little more distance as well. That is her

:16:32.:16:41.

coach, he is himself a pretty good thrower. Shot, discus and throw up.

:16:41.:16:51.
:16:51.:16:52.

He comes from Switzerland, her coach. Bernard Gunther was his

:16:52.:17:01.

first charge. If Valerie Adams wins this one, she is going to be four-

:17:01.:17:11.
:17:11.:17:22.

has got to get this otherwise he will be eliminated. Only two

:17:22.:17:32.
:17:32.:17:51.

delighted. Such relief. Yamamoto is still in there fighting. There are

:17:51.:17:56.

quite a few athletes still in this competition. That equals his

:17:56.:18:06.
:18:06.:18:07.

lifetime best. That is a great effort from the 21 year-old. One of

:18:07.:18:11.

the fastest athletes in the shot put circle and now one of the

:18:11.:18:21.

longest as well. Right on the 20 metre line. Already the post mortem

:18:21.:18:26.

of the throw by her coach has started. Two very good Chinese

:18:26.:18:34.

athletes in this final. World championship bronze medal in Berlin

:18:34.:18:44.
:18:44.:18:45.

and an Olympic bronze medallist as well. Ranked 4th in the world. That

:18:45.:18:55.
:18:55.:18:57.

is getting close, she has moved into second place. This is his

:18:57.:19:07.
:19:07.:19:39.

eight. -- he lives to fight another the competition. You have got to

:19:39.:19:49.
:19:49.:20:27.

get it on the third otherwise you world goes in lane three.

:20:27.:20:37.
:20:37.:20:48.

Nafissatou Thiam from Belgium, the European champion. A little twitch.

:20:48.:20:58.
:20:58.:20:59.

That will not be recorded on the electronic system. Nafissatou Thiam

:20:59.:21:09.
:21:09.:21:12.

may be penalised for that. She certainly was the best high jumper

:21:12.:21:22.
:21:22.:21:22.

on display earlier in the day. 1.92. I have been raving about this guy

:21:23.:21:32.
:21:33.:21:39.

all day, but it is the first time we have seen him. Raphael Holzdeppe.

:21:39.:21:48.

He is going so well. Olympic bronze medallist and European bronze

:21:48.:21:56.

medallist. He never got the gold except when he was a junior. He won

:21:56.:22:02.

the World Junior Championship in 2008. Maybe something for Renauld

:22:12.:22:12.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

just gets it. Not as fast as seat number two. It was not tremendously

:23:10.:23:15.

good from either of them. Nafissatou Thiam was labouring a

:23:15.:23:24.

little bit down the home straight. She has run 24.89 before, so some

:23:24.:23:34.
:23:34.:23:50.

final. Raphael Holzdeppe has definitely got the advantage at the

:23:50.:24:00.
:24:00.:24:02.

moment. So many people expected this guy would turn up and win the

:24:02.:24:10.

competition. That is not the case. Brad Walker, the American No. 1. Oh,

:24:10.:24:20.
:24:20.:24:21.

yes! That is a motion. As the bar gets higher, at every clearance

:24:21.:24:24.

will become one further step towards a medal in these

:24:24.:24:30.

championships. This guy knows what it is like to win the gold medal.

:24:30.:24:40.
:24:40.:24:42.

He did that in 2007. He has jumped 6.04 at his very best. Who knows?

:24:42.:24:52.

He is in second place at the moment. This is totally -- total domination

:24:52.:25:02.
:25:02.:25:03.

by Valerie Adams. She is getting better and better. That is all the

:25:03.:25:09.

coach can say, isn't it? Thumbs up. You are so much better than

:25:09.:25:18.

everybody else, just keep it going. 120 kg in body weight. She moves so

:25:18.:25:22.

smoothly across the circle and she blasted the shot out way beyond 20

:25:22.:25:32.
:25:32.:25:36.

metres. That surely is the gold medal. Right next to the shot put,

:25:36.:25:43.

behind the cage, we have got the men's hammer. There is the start

:25:43.:25:53.
:25:53.:25:54.

said if there is a favourite, it is this man, the reigning European and

:26:34.:26:39.

Olympic champion. He has got a winning streak going way back some

:26:39.:26:49.
:26:49.:26:49.

time now. That is a cracking start. We did not see any throws over 80

:26:49.:26:59.

metres in qualification, but we have got one-hour. He has the best

:26:59.:27:09.
:27:09.:27:11.

throw in the world to his credit this year. 7.26 kg the hammer ways.

:27:11.:27:18.

He has made that look very easy indeed. That is going to be hard to

:27:28.:27:28.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

is all about that time. Brianne Theisen Eaton is going to take it.

:29:00.:29:07.

She delivered according to form. She is a very good runner. She is

:29:08.:29:14.

going to be in a good position. He will have been doing a bit of

:29:55.:29:59.

Dipping under 23 seconds. In the final heat, Katarina

:29:59.:30:02.

Johnson-Thompson. She lines up in lane six. She's lying in 14th place

:30:02.:30:12.
:30:12.:30:30.

attempt. This man does it as well. Germany are really taking a

:30:30.:30:40.
:30:40.:30:49.

stranglehold on this final. Lying in first and second place now.

:30:49.:30:59.
:30:59.:31:24.

Lavillenie is still not clear at relief to get there. He certainly is

:31:24.:31:29.

capable, having gone over six metres quite a few times this season.

:31:29.:31:33.

Lavillenie is in the hunt for the medals, but he's got a bit of work

:31:33.:31:43.
:31:43.:32:16.

the world this year! That really has a new lifetime best. It's the

:32:16.:32:26.
:32:26.:32:40.

longest throw in the world in 2013. interesting situation as we lead

:32:40.:32:48.

into heat number five of this 200m. We did see Theisen Eaton do very

:32:48.:32:53.

well in that last heat, so something for Katarina Johnson-Thompson and

:32:53.:32:58.

the rest to chase. Absolutely. Her team will have really lifted her

:32:58.:33:07.

after a very disappointing shot put. She is, on paper, the fastest person

:33:07.:33:12.

in this heat. She's going to have to prove it because this is the point

:33:12.:33:15.

where she needs to stay in contention, she's lying in 14th

:33:15.:33:23.

place. She knows she has to stay in touch here. Dafne Schippers, of the

:33:23.:33:26.

Netherlands, is actually the fasters. She's the only athlete in

:33:26.:33:36.
:33:36.:34:00.

the field who's been under 23 She decided to come here not to

:34:00.:34:03.

contest the sprints, where she is obviously very good at 200, too. But

:34:03.:34:08.

to go for a heptathlon. You cannot blame her for that. Disappointing

:34:09.:34:14.

that these and back has withdrawn, because it means there's a huge gap

:34:14.:34:20.

between Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Dafne Schippers. Katarina just

:34:20.:34:26.

has to be patient. Tyminska finished in fourth place, out of the medals,

:34:26.:34:32.

just, two years ago. It was Chernova of Russia who was the champion their

:34:32.:34:42.
:34:42.:35:10.

will stop ahead of Jessica blocks on the outside. The Dutch

:35:10.:35:17.

athlete going well. But Katarina Johnson-Thompson is keeping pace. So

:35:17.:35:22.

is Ellen Sprunger, of Switzerland. Look at Schippers flying down the

:35:22.:35:27.

home straight. Johnson-Thompson gaining ground on the Swiss athlete.

:35:27.:35:32.

A great finish by Katarina Johnson-Thompson. A good time, 22.84

:35:32.:35:36.

by Dafne Schippers. That is a cracking time. By far and away the

:35:36.:35:41.

fastest we've seen so far. I just wonder, Andrew, whether Katarina

:35:41.:35:44.

Johnson-Thompson can come away with a new lifetime best from this last

:35:44.:35:51.

event on day one. It was good to get a measure of Schippers outside her.

:35:51.:35:55.

Diniz Lou was watching this, this was a very good one. I think we will

:35:55.:35:59.

see the time from Johnson-Thompson might be pretty impressive. It's

:35:59.:36:03.

just what she needed. I'm amazed she managed to hold their head. It's so

:36:03.:36:07.

difficult for these ladies. With lane seven being empty, she really

:36:07.:36:12.

had to keep discipline here. Schippers is the fastest person in

:36:12.:36:16.

this race. She just had to have her in her sights. I'm sure that's a

:36:16.:36:23.

great personal best from Katarina, a job well done from her. She's a very

:36:23.:36:30.

rangy runner, very quick over this distance. But it's so important that

:36:30.:36:33.

you keep the relaxation going. She runs a good turn, she's clearly

:36:33.:36:40.

focused and ready to strike, and she does. She doesn't lose her form.

:36:40.:36:50.
:36:50.:36:55.

Lovely, rangy running. She knew that Katarina Johnson-Thompson has

:36:55.:37:01.

run a new lifetime best, 23.37. She moves way up the table into sixth

:37:01.:37:09.

place to stop thankfully, she's downstairs with Phil.

:37:09.:37:15.

I'm happy, a personal best. I couldn't see the board, I didn't

:37:15.:37:20.

know I came second. I didn't know where I was until someone shouted of

:37:20.:37:26.

me. What about the overall performance of the day? I've been

:37:26.:37:33.

really disappointed throughout the day. In the hurdles, I had 13.48,

:37:33.:37:43.

today I got 13.49. The high jump, I got over it but my hair knocked the

:37:43.:37:49.

back, I will have to get it all chopped off now! I just had

:37:49.:37:54.

flashbacks of last year, seeing the same sort of outcome, doing well and

:37:54.:37:57.

then dropping low in the rankings and having to bring it back in the

:37:57.:38:06.

200 and 100. I'm just happy with finishing off an APB. Hopefully

:38:06.:38:09.

there's more to follow in the long jump tomorrow. We wish you well for

:38:09.:38:19.
:38:19.:38:23.

the second day. We will talk more last night from the States and you

:38:23.:38:26.

missed the lightning bolt, but a second visit for Usain Bolt for his

:38:26.:38:34.

medal ceremony. He will never get tired of this. No, he won't. This is

:38:34.:38:38.

what he gets up for. He likes winning championships and it is his

:38:38.:38:42.

motivation. He has said in the past is our objective is to win as many

:38:42.:38:45.

championships as he can. He said many years ago that he wanted to be

:38:46.:38:51.

mentioned alongside the likes of Carl Lewis and myself as well.

:38:51.:38:55.

You've got to win many championships to do that, and that is exactly what

:38:55.:39:00.

he's doing. I believe he also kind of takes a little bit of motivation

:39:00.:39:05.

from the early-season, when people start to doubt him a little bit

:39:05.:39:09.

because of injuries or he just hasn't been as sharp in his training

:39:09.:39:13.

and maybe he loses a race here or there. I think that we provide a

:39:13.:39:23.
:39:23.:39:23.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:39:23.:40:34.

in the relay and the 200. There's always talk in the past that maybe

:40:34.:40:39.

he'd go back to what he ran as a boy, which was the 400. Can you ever

:40:39.:40:44.

see him moving up? I really don't see it. I've talked with them

:40:44.:40:49.

personally about that. I told myself that I would love to see him run it,

:40:49.:40:53.

I think it could be the first person to hold the world record at 100, 200

:40:53.:40:57.

and 400. He said, that's nice, but I don't think I'll be doing that. We

:40:57.:41:01.

just doesn't want to train for the 400, which is smart on his part to

:41:01.:41:05.

understand that. It's not something he really wants to do and his heart

:41:05.:41:08.

wouldn't be in it, so he really wouldn't give it his all and

:41:08.:41:15.

probably wouldn't have success. If someday he has a change of heart and

:41:15.:41:18.

decides to take up the 400, I think it would be unbelievable to watch

:41:18.:41:22.

him run 400m. I think he could go in there under 43 seconds, it would be

:41:22.:41:27.

phenomenal. The reason he moved down to 100 was because he didn't like

:41:27.:41:32.

the training for 400. He thought, if I can be a champion and I have to be

:41:32.:41:36.

out on the track for a short time, I'll do just that. It's incredible

:41:36.:41:41.

to have that kind of talent, oh, to have those choices in your life!

:41:41.:41:46.

He's one of the best out there and has been talented since he was 15.

:41:46.:41:51.

He's always had this as his destiny. He wanted to be the greatest. So

:41:51.:41:56.

far, he's proved that he is over the 100 and the 200. But to do the 400,

:41:56.:42:01.

why would you unless you were going to be at the heights? He's doing

:42:01.:42:04.

great right now. It's just whether he can maintain and give us those

:42:04.:42:09.

quick times, which I'm sure we would all like to see. Keep resetting his

:42:09.:42:13.

goals, keep refocusing, keep enjoying the training that it takes

:42:13.:42:17.

and the butane and the lifestyle and everything else that you sacrifice.

:42:17.:42:25.

I wondered about that because you talk about keep resetting goals.

:42:25.:42:28.

What are the goals for Usain Bolt? He comes out and he wins another

:42:28.:42:30.

world championship and another Olympic gold medal. I wonder where

:42:30.:42:34.

the motivation was going to come from. But I think he enjoys being

:42:34.:42:39.

the entertainer on this stage so much that that is his motivation. He

:42:39.:42:43.

likes to come out here in front of a great crowd and put on a show. That

:42:43.:42:47.

is what he does. I think that has become his motivation. To my

:42:47.:42:50.

surprise, because I didn't think that would be enough. I thought he

:42:50.:42:54.

would have to find some new goals and probably change events. But I

:42:55.:43:00.

think he can certainly do this through real. It would be great to

:43:00.:43:03.

have him in real. Three consecutive Olympic gold would be the aim for

:43:03.:43:09.

him. That is a great goal to aim for. Christine Ohuruogu is aiming to

:43:09.:43:17.

reclaim the world title. She won it six years ago now. She got the

:43:17.:43:21.

silver last year at the Olympic Games in London. She just knows how

:43:21.:43:26.

to peek at the big times. She doesn't really care around the

:43:26.:43:29.

season if she's not getting everything, it's the big races,

:43:29.:43:36.

peaking in the championships. She has had a different approach to

:43:36.:43:39.

the 2013 season, where she has been on the Diamond League a little bit

:43:39.:43:43.

more than normally does. But she has had such a roller-coaster since she

:43:44.:43:51.

won in 2007 in Osaka. But she is in great shape now. We saw her go under

:43:51.:43:56.

50 seconds almost effortlessly. I'm really optimistic for her. She has

:43:56.:44:00.

got to run the race of her life, which means possibly a British

:44:00.:44:06.

record to win. She has beaten on show in Birmingham this year, she

:44:06.:44:11.

knows how to beat her main rival. Will she execute the plan right

:44:11.:44:21.
:44:21.:44:23.

tonight? Let's hand now to each other for ten years now. 2004

:44:23.:44:30.

Olympics, Christine made the semifinal, Montsho went there as her

:44:30.:44:33.

country's first-ever female Olympian in Athens. They've been intertwined

:44:33.:44:39.

ever since. Christine won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in

:44:39.:44:42.

2006. One Show only made the semifinal of that occasion.

:44:42.:44:47.

Christine came back and won the world title in 2007 in Osaka, in

:44:47.:44:54.

that brilliant race. She passed Williams-Mills in the last couple of

:44:54.:44:59.

strides. Then it was the Olympic gold medal for Christine Ohuruogu in

:44:59.:45:08.

2008. Then onto the scene came Richard Ross. In 2011 it was a. The

:45:08.:45:14.

Christine in the first round. Montreux stepped up and took the

:45:14.:45:19.

title, took the world title which she currently holds. Last year,

:45:19.:45:29.
:45:29.:45:46.

Richard Ross, the Olympic title, them. Amantle Montsho is the pride

:45:46.:45:52.

of third-country. She spends a lot of time training in Senegal, but it

:45:52.:46:02.
:46:02.:46:24.

is Botts won a's flag she will be the best preparation. She had to

:46:24.:46:34.
:46:34.:46:36.

pull out in Monaco. She pulled out with 200m to go. Stephanie

:46:36.:46:42.

McPherson, 49.992 qualified. Only the second time she has been under

:46:42.:46:49.

50 seconds. Natasha Hastings is the American champion, from New York.

:46:49.:46:54.

She finally realised her a goal to become the American champion.

:46:54.:46:59.

Christine Ohuruogu has been our number one for a long time. I

:46:59.:47:05.

mention some of her highlights, Olympic gold medal, Olympic silver

:47:05.:47:13.

medal. She will be chasing Amantle Montsho who has been the dominant

:47:13.:47:23.
:47:23.:47:23.

force in 400m running this year. Francina Macrory almost to a medal

:47:23.:47:28.

in day go. Was run down in the last 30 metres when it seemed the bronze

:47:28.:47:38.
:47:38.:47:59.

was hers. Cesar near reserve a, a times. We know that Christian will

:47:59.:48:05.

finish fast, but will she be close enough to put Amantle Montsho under

:48:05.:48:10.

pressure in the home straight? The British record is still held by

:48:10.:48:20.
:48:20.:48:22.

Kathy Cook, 49.43. Amantle Montsho's best is 49.33. Both of

:48:22.:48:32.
:48:32.:48:33.

them completely dominant in qualifying for this final. The

:48:33.:48:41.

supreme, big-time competitor. She saves her best for global finals.

:48:41.:48:51.
:48:51.:49:13.

She saves her best for when medals Ohuruogu will be able to see the

:49:13.:49:22.

back of Amantle Montsho. Hastings was incredibly quick through the

:49:22.:49:27.

first 100m. A man claimed Wanchope is shifting the gears up through

:49:27.:49:37.

the back straight. Amantle Montsho star has not stamped her authority

:49:37.:49:45.

on this final yet. Amantle Montsho comes to the fore. Christine of

:49:45.:49:55.
:49:55.:50:11.

was not there. Five metres to go and she was not there. Three metres

:50:11.:50:19.

to go and she was not there. Did she get it? We are waiting. She is

:50:19.:50:24.

looking and we are looking. The photo-finish will be the only thing

:50:24.:50:33.

that can determine this. She smiles. The two of them are pretty good

:50:33.:50:40.

friends and they know each other so well. She has got it! A new

:50:40.:50:46.

national record. Another gold medal. Christine Ohuruogu is the world

:50:46.:50:53.

champion again. Amantle Montsho cannot believe it. She never gives

:50:53.:51:03.
:51:03.:51:03.

up. Every single stride, every sinew straining. Every breath

:51:03.:51:11.

Council, write to the very end. Kathy Cook's record finally goes as

:51:11.:51:21.
:51:21.:51:22.

well. Like the rest of us up she would have been on her feet. It

:51:22.:51:28.

could not have been closer, it could not have been tighter. We

:51:28.:51:33.

have had some pretty close races in past years, but this was even

:51:33.:51:40.

tighter. I think Amantle Montsho thought she had got it. She leaned

:51:40.:51:44.

back on the line, but Christine Ohuruogu did not give that up.

:51:44.:51:49.

Michael Johnson, have you ever seen a race like that in a championship

:51:49.:51:59.

final? It was such a great division. Every 400m runner knows that

:51:59.:52:04.

Christine Ohuruogu is going to be dangerous on the home straight. I

:52:04.:52:08.

did not know why Amantle Montsho did not know that on the finish

:52:08.:52:18.
:52:18.:52:20.

line. She does this every time. She bites her time, she is very patient.

:52:20.:52:26.

Natasha Hastings had a quick start. Christine is in her usual position.

:52:26.:52:31.

Now the strength takes over. Amantle Montsho looks good, but

:52:31.:52:40.

Christine Ohuruogu is stronger on the home straight. It was all about

:52:40.:52:44.

leaning at the finish. Christine Ohuruogu has taken advantage so

:52:44.:52:49.

many times when others have made mistakes. She runs the best race

:52:49.:52:53.

she can possibly run at the time and that is the consistency it

:52:53.:52:59.

takes to be a champion and a medallist over and over again. Run

:52:59.:53:09.
:53:09.:53:10.

your best race at the championships. A great race by her. She will have

:53:10.:53:20.
:53:20.:53:21.

to be extremely proud of this race. A very nice run by Christine.

:53:21.:53:30.

Michael, or as in Great Britain we have got many great athletes. There

:53:30.:53:35.

must be a place in the all-time greats of British athletics now for

:53:35.:53:41.

Christine Ohuruogu. An Olympic gold medal, an Olympic silver medal and

:53:41.:53:46.

now two or world championship gold medals. Have we ever had a better

:53:46.:53:52.

exponent? Have we ever had any body better at coming on the big bay and

:53:52.:53:56.

producing their best performance just when it is required? Have we

:53:56.:54:00.

ever had any one better at coming down the home straight and not

:54:00.:54:10.
:54:10.:54:12.

giving up? You have to go to the line. Christine had incredible

:54:12.:54:15.

desire and incredible belief and she thought she might just get

:54:15.:54:23.

there. Amantle Montsho lost the gold medal. It was a fraction of a

:54:23.:54:31.

second. I think we knew before Christine did. It came up on the

:54:32.:54:39.

computer. I'd just had a feeling, you always look for the momentum,

:54:39.:54:44.

but I was not sure, and then the smile came across her face. Of all

:54:44.:54:49.

the great finishes, that was the greatest. Amantle Montsho was

:54:49.:54:59.

looking at the big screen. Christine was leaning and it was

:54:59.:55:09.
:55:09.:55:09.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:55:09.:55:49.

good enough. An incredible finish. That was wonderful. He is

:55:49.:55:58.

continuing the purple patch. He just keeps going and going. The

:55:58.:56:03.

perfect day for one of the youngest men in the final. Raphael Holzdeppe

:56:03.:56:10.

of Germany has really taken this by the scruff of its neck. Stanley

:56:10.:56:16.

Malte Mohr has attempted it so far. There are five of them all together,

:56:17.:56:26.

but he was the first to go clear. She is trying to take the gold

:56:26.:56:32.

medal away from Valerie Adams of New Zealand. She needed a throw

:56:32.:56:39.

well in excess of 20 metres, she has done it, but it is not as far

:56:39.:56:45.

as 20.80, which Valerie Adams achieved earlier on. But this could

:56:45.:56:51.

be a new lifetime best for the German. A European Cup winner a

:56:51.:57:01.
:57:01.:57:07.

couple of years ago. It was a new lifetime best. Nobody could touch

:57:07.:57:15.

her in the end. Celebrations will go on, I bet, until tomorrow

:57:15.:57:21.

morning. New Zealand have only ever one four gold medals in

:57:21.:57:31.
:57:31.:57:32.

championship history. 1997, the discus. And for Valerie Adams it is

:57:32.:57:40.

her 4th gold medal. Nobody has ever done that before. Absolutely

:57:40.:57:50.
:57:50.:57:52.

phenomenal. That was a magnificent throw by the German. That was a

:57:52.:58:02.
:58:02.:58:04.

real achievement for her. No doubt who the champion was. And he gets

:58:04.:58:14.

back to stay in! We know what a great competitor he is now. That is

:58:14.:58:21.

his youngest brother who went out ages ago. That was his third and

:58:21.:58:30.

final attempt at 5.89. It means he has to go higher than Raphael

:58:30.:58:37.

Holzdeppe if he wants the gold medal. He has to get 5.96 or even

:58:37.:58:43.

higher at his first attempt. Christine Ohuruogu won the gold

:58:43.:58:53.
:58:53.:58:55.

medal by just four thousandths of a second. She gave it everything she

:58:55.:59:05.
:59:05.:59:05.

got. Well Sharman goes in the 110 metres hurdles final. This is an

:59:06.:59:13.

event that has yielded much American success over the years.

:59:13.:59:21.

There are four Americans to contest this final. Whatever happens here

:59:21.:59:28.

it is a great achievement to reach his third successive world final.

:59:28.:59:33.

But look out for the Americans. Jason Richardson is the defending

:59:33.:59:43.
:59:43.:00:20.

a very talented flat sprinter. Concentrating now on the hurdles.

:00:20.:00:25.

There is David Oliver, the formidable figure, 19 races

:00:25.:00:35.
:00:35.:00:36.

unbeaten, can this be his time? Anderson for the noise... For Sergey

:00:36.:00:46.
:00:46.:00:49.

Shubenkov. Championships, and Thomas

:00:49.:00:52.

Martinot-Lagarde, the eldest of the brothers, Pascal went out in the

:00:52.:00:57.

first round and Thomas, second in both his first round and semifinal,

:00:57.:01:05.

not quick times, though. And there is the defending world champion, who

:01:05.:01:09.

did not know he had one immediately in Daegu, then found on later,

:01:09.:01:18.

Dayron Robles after colliding and Aries Merritt, injured earlier this

:01:18.:01:22.

season, what a dreadful start he had in the semifinal, had to graft so

:01:22.:01:25.

hard to get back into third place. The Olympic champion and world

:01:25.:01:32.

record holder. And the eldest, perhaps the weakest of the

:01:32.:01:40.

Americans, despite being the US champion, Ryan Wilson. 13.02 and

:01:40.:01:50.
:01:50.:02:04.

Sharman, fourth and fifth at the last two World Championships.

:02:04.:02:12.

Everyone Sykes himself up in different ways. A plea for quiet. A

:02:12.:02:22.
:02:22.:02:24.

near silence in Moscow, save a few last encouraging words. Sharman...

:02:24.:02:34.
:02:34.:02:38.

these men and the gold medal. The title of world champion, the final

:02:39.:02:48.
:02:49.:02:59.

Riley going well for Jamaica. It is Oliver powering his way through the

:02:59.:03:06.

barriers, light comes through to take it, second place, Ryan Wilson

:03:06.:03:11.

but David Oliver finally gets his hold on World Championship gold and

:03:11.:03:16.

an emphatic, overpowering victory for this powerful American. It was

:03:16.:03:21.

not Aries Merritt, it was not Jason Richardson, the defending champion,

:03:21.:03:29.

it was David Oliver who becomes champion of the world. A good, solid

:03:29.:03:31.

performance from David Oliver there. He was showing great form coming

:03:32.:03:36.

into these championships. Through the rounds, he was going to be the

:03:36.:03:42.

man who we were all watching. His time gets rounded down to 13 seconds

:03:42.:03:48.

flat, a world leader and of course, a gold medal that he has been really

:03:48.:03:51.

crying out for. Super talented athlete and at long last, he gets

:03:51.:03:56.

the title he deserves. Really strong out of the blocks compared to the

:03:56.:04:04.

semifinal. He took his time but now, it was pure and powerful, clean

:04:05.:04:09.

demonstration. Shubenkov who put away in the semifinal, he was left

:04:09.:04:15.

drifting away and really struggling to see if he could get into the

:04:15.:04:20.

medals but you can hear the roar. Shubenkov has been confirmed in

:04:20.:04:28.

third place, that is why the Russians are cheering. Jason

:04:28.:04:33.

Richardson, going into that final barrier and Shubenkov, even though

:04:33.:04:40.

he retracted push them down, staggered into the line to take a

:04:40.:04:46.

bronze medal. Do you know whatI think Will Sharman ends up in fifth

:04:46.:04:53.

place with a time of 13.30 seconds but there is the champion of the

:04:53.:05:01.

world. David Oliver, wonderful. the winner, emphatically. Shubenkov

:05:01.:05:09.

spoiling the American one, two and three by getting it there and Will

:05:09.:05:12.

Sharman has finished fourth, fifth and fifth game at World

:05:12.:05:17.

Championships which is no mean feat. It is wonderful to see him back

:05:17.:05:21.

because you remember he has had a torrid couple of years in between

:05:21.:05:24.

the World Championship successes but this is exactly what we'll is all

:05:24.:05:28.

about, he can hold his form together. -- what Will Sharman is

:05:28.:05:33.

all about. He keeps his eyes focused, not stressing himself in

:05:33.:05:38.

any way. All the action going on around him but he is holding it all

:05:38.:05:43.

together and I wish you could have a couple of consistent winds behind

:05:43.:05:48.

him because I think he could get right up into the world lead. I know

:05:48.:05:52.

he will be disappointed but it was a good performance. There we are,

:05:52.:05:58.

Aries Merritt, we thought he might add this title to his Olympic title,

:05:58.:06:01.

but Will Sharman getting ahead of him but David Oliver, the champion.

:06:02.:06:06.

And then Wilson and then Shubenkov. We can hear from Christine Ohuruogu

:06:06.:06:16.
:06:16.:06:18.

for you, congratulations. Some of the feelings if you can! I just

:06:19.:06:24.

thank God, I am so grateful, I cannot believe I did that, I feel

:06:24.:06:31.

like I am in a dream. It is exactly what I have been working all my

:06:31.:06:36.

season four. I thank God that everything came together, it was so

:06:36.:06:42.

tight on the line. If only I could win it, if only that could be me, my

:06:42.:06:48.

name that comes up first and it did, it has been a really hard few days.

:06:48.:06:52.

Thank you to everybody at home, wishing and praying for me and

:06:52.:06:55.

helping me get through these last couple of days because it has been

:06:55.:06:59.

really tough. And I am just really grateful to be here, I honestly

:06:59.:07:03.

can't believe... I think I am dreaming, I really don't know. I

:07:03.:07:10.

don't feel like I am here, it feels surreal and it is strange. Maybe

:07:10.:07:14.

this will make it feel more real, we will show you the dip that did it.

:07:14.:07:21.

Can you see? I remember thinking, do whatever you can, get over the

:07:21.:07:27.

line! And you did and got the victory. And with it, the national

:07:27.:07:34.

record. That is the icing on the cake for me, but is all I wanted to

:07:34.:07:39.

see, I knew it would be a tough shot. I just focused and that is

:07:39.:07:46.

what I wanted, whatever you want to go for, just go for it, at least she

:07:46.:07:53.

tried. I am really happy I kept believing and kept trusting that I

:07:53.:07:58.

could do it. You have done the team and nation proud. Congratulations,

:07:58.:08:08.
:08:08.:08:25.

enjoy the moment when you get your Phil Jones should settle her dad! We

:08:25.:08:27.

will let Denise compose herself but she was bursting there with all

:08:27.:08:33.

kinds of emotions -- will settle her down. The most dramatic way to win,

:08:33.:08:39.

something like four thousandths of a second. She did not need anything on

:08:39.:08:46.

that track. That has been Christine all of her career. Christine has

:08:46.:08:52.

done it the right way. She has set herself up to not have too much

:08:52.:08:57.

pressure. After the first World Championship and then winning the

:08:57.:09:00.

Olympic gold medal in 2008, we all thought, what will happen next? Will

:09:00.:09:06.

she dominates? She has shown up at championships and done very well and

:09:06.:09:09.

given a best performances and that has been enough to put her in a

:09:09.:09:12.

position where we are not coming into a championship and it is all

:09:12.:09:18.

about her, anything less than gold is a failure, that sort of thing.

:09:18.:09:21.

She is a very intelligent woman so I think she knows that she doesn't

:09:21.:09:25.

like that type of pressure, she does not want to run into that, she wants

:09:25.:09:29.

to go into championships and run her best race. There are some girls more

:09:29.:09:38.

talented out there and it has been a joy to watch her stay so evenly

:09:38.:09:45.

keeled and patient, as an athlete and a person. The way I watch this

:09:45.:09:52.

race, it all came out and came together in this race. She wasn't

:09:52.:09:57.

winning three metres from the finish line, she was in silver position and

:09:57.:10:01.

the next thing you know, being patient, doing things the right way

:10:01.:10:04.

and doing the best you possibly can and as she said, leaving absolutely

:10:04.:10:10.

nothing on the track. She comes back with a national record and a gold

:10:10.:10:15.

medal. You see the determination on her face. "I am going to go for it"

:10:15.:10:23.

and she is one metre from the finish line. What says it for me is that

:10:23.:10:27.

she has had great success, she has been an Olympic champion and world

:10:27.:10:31.

champion but she has had to take it back to basics and really strategise

:10:31.:10:36.

with her coach - who must be doing cartwheels somewhere in the

:10:36.:10:41.

stadium! Working at how she can be faster and better and she has had to

:10:41.:10:45.

go back and she has had to do this and this is such a great performance

:10:45.:10:52.

from her. I am so happy, so, so happy for her as her family will be

:10:52.:10:56.

it is just amazing. We saw her race 200 metres at the British trials

:10:56.:11:00.

this year and were speculating as to her motivation for doing that and

:11:00.:11:05.

she obviously sets herself out slightly differently but the aim has

:11:05.:11:09.

been to peek here and I will hold that thought is we have to go back

:11:09.:11:18.

outside, Lavillenie is going in the COMMENTATOR: The destination of the

:11:18.:11:22.

gold medal in the men's pole vault depends on this attempt by Renaud

:11:22.:11:28.

Lavillenie, can be a lipid champion become the world champion? -- can be

:11:28.:11:34.

Olympic champion? 5.96 metres, it was close... And already a new

:11:34.:11:39.

champion is celebrating, Raphael Holzdeppe is the end to a perfect

:11:40.:11:47.

day for him. And the pre-eminent favourite will only... I say that

:11:47.:11:54.

guardedly, only get a silver medal. Renaud Lavillenie has been a major

:11:54.:11:58.

force in pole vaulting over the past couple of years, we certainly

:11:58.:12:05.

expected him to win the gold medal here and this was the moment when

:12:05.:12:08.

Raphael Holzdeppe realised he had become the world champion only 23

:12:08.:12:14.

years old. Olympic bronze medallist last year and it has not been a

:12:14.:12:19.

happy day for the Lavillenie brothers. Valentin, his younger

:12:19.:12:29.

brother, went out way lower than he expected, 5.55 and Renaud

:12:29.:12:33.

Lavillenie... It has all gone wrong for him since 5.82 metres, two tends

:12:33.:12:40.

to get that, and three failures -- two attempts to get that. A surprise

:12:40.:12:49.

result, nevertheless delighted German nation. And the same height

:12:49.:12:57.

as Renaud Lavillenie but the German wins and count back. Another medal

:12:57.:13:02.

for Germany, Bjorn Otto gets the bronze. Will Sharman certainly

:13:02.:13:08.

running one of the races of the year for him in that 110m hurdles final,

:13:08.:13:18.
:13:18.:13:20.

are so consistent when it comes to the stage but I know you would like

:13:20.:13:25.

to have got a medal. I am really disappointed. All I had to do was

:13:25.:13:29.

run to the best of my ability, I did not do it. As soon as I landed off

:13:29.:13:35.

pedal one, I landed backwards -- hurdle won, it killed my

:13:35.:13:40.

acceleration phase and I had to run really hard from there on in. And

:13:40.:13:44.

then I gave the race away. That is something that I have recently just

:13:44.:13:50.

started to master and it did not happen in the final. I did it well

:13:50.:13:58.

in the semifinal but I didn't carry an running hard for the whole race.

:13:58.:14:04.

If I put the semifinal start in the final and that finish, but I am

:14:04.:14:11.

disappointed, I didn't do as well as I could have done. We know that you

:14:11.:14:15.

so embrace this kind of arena, there will be more to come and more big

:14:15.:14:20.

day is for you. Absolutely. I was completely relaxed out there. I knew

:14:20.:14:24.

I had to do what I knew I could do and my coach knew I could do. I

:14:24.:14:29.

nailed it in the warm up but that is no good, I need to get it right

:14:29.:14:34.

here. So very, very close in the end but just one mistake cost me the

:14:34.:14:39.

whole race, really. Will, we really appreciate you talking to us after

:14:39.:14:44.

the rate and a tremendous effort. Thank you, very much.

:14:44.:14:47.

GABBY LOGAN: The agony and ecstasy sport, we have seen all, and we

:14:47.:14:54.

haven't even analysed the 110m hurdles, we will have time to do

:14:54.:14:57.

that later, we were in the midst of talking about Christine Ohuruogu but

:14:57.:15:01.

we have the 100 metres final coming very shortly, so let's talk about

:15:01.:15:05.

that and save all our post race analysis for a little bit later. I

:15:05.:15:09.

will give you this one tweet from Adam Gemili, the whole British team

:15:09.:15:15.

went absolutely mental, Christine is an absolute beast! I am sure he says

:15:15.:15:19.

that in the nicest possible way! What a great motivation for the rest

:15:19.:15:23.

of the athletes yet to compete, seeing their captain go out and do

:15:23.:15:27.

exactly what she says. And I think that is what everybody has always

:15:27.:15:32.

seen in Christine. They have seen a leader, somebody who basically puts

:15:32.:15:35.

herself in a position that she wants to be end and that she feels she

:15:35.:15:40.

needs to be in order to produce her best and what I have seen over the

:15:40.:15:43.

last three years is more British athletes taking that approach,

:15:43.:15:45.

understanding how they need to prepare mentally for a

:15:45.:15:49.

Championships, and have the best performance and that comes from

:15:49.:15:52.

leaders like Christine setting that pace and that is a great example. We

:15:52.:15:55.

are minutes away from the fastest woman in the world taking to the

:15:55.:16:05.

last four global medals. Carmelita Jeter is the defending champion. Is

:16:49.:16:57.

it about these two? Can anyone disturb the rhythm of Shelly-Ann

:16:57.:17:07.
:17:07.:17:13.

Fraser-Pryce? English Gardner had her SMEs as the best race. She said

:17:13.:17:23.
:17:23.:17:23.

the lion was out of its cage. It was put back a little bit in the

:17:23.:17:29.

semi-finals. Andersen needs to be as good as her best performance to

:17:29.:17:38.

get a medal. Two Olympic medals and one world title at the 100m. Can it

:17:38.:17:47.

be her 4th gold medal on the global stage? Carmelita Jeter in 2011 came

:17:47.:17:55.

out on top. This is her 4th world championship final in the 100m. She

:17:55.:18:03.

has been third, third and first. Murielle a hooray could be the

:18:04.:18:13.
:18:14.:18:21.

surprise package here. She already has a silver medal in the long jump.

:18:21.:18:26.

She is strong enough to come through for a medal. Stewart looked

:18:26.:18:34.

impressive. This is her 4th 100m final in the world championships.

an absolute mile! Demonstrations printing. She is the best buy a

:20:14.:20:22.

really long wave. Nobody could live with her today. Nobody has been

:20:23.:20:32.
:20:33.:20:34.

able to catch her for a while. She is on top form. She won't now go

:20:34.:20:44.
:20:44.:21:10.

the blocks hard but she just forged ahead and was never to be beaten.

:21:10.:21:20.
:21:20.:21:53.

the double. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, while. 10.71, a wonderful time. The

:21:53.:21:57.

Olympic champion on the right. At this stage Carmelita Jeter was

:21:57.:22:03.

still the champion. Look at the contrasting technique and style and

:22:03.:22:09.

size and aggression. Both these women are competent when they are

:22:09.:22:17.

at their best, but today it is all about Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. A

:22:17.:22:26.

demonstration of awesome sprinting. The fastest time in the world.

:22:26.:22:31.

Carmelita Jeter hanging on for the bronze medal ahead of English

:22:31.:22:38.

Gardner. They were not even close enough, that is why Carmelita Jeter

:22:38.:22:43.

is delighted, to be fair given everything that she has been

:22:43.:22:51.

through. She has done well, that is why she is so happy after all she

:22:51.:23:01.
:23:01.:23:17.

Ivory Coast athlete. It is a real testimony to Carmelita Jeter's

:23:17.:23:27.
:23:27.:23:29.

fortitude coming through for the bronze. Never in doubt, I guess. We

:23:29.:23:34.

saw how running within herself in the semi-final, but she ran from

:23:34.:23:41.

gun to tape. Yes, she did. And based on the gap between her and

:23:41.:23:46.

the rest of the field, the conditions were not great. The

:23:46.:23:52.

distance between her and the rest of the field is unbelievable. She

:23:52.:23:59.

is doing Usain Bolt type of things. She is coming in two races and

:23:59.:24:05.

dominating so easily. This race was over at the 40 metre mark. Text

:24:05.:24:10.

books printing. Her technique is about as good as any I have ever

:24:10.:24:16.

seen. I have never seen anyone with such perfect technique. She is very

:24:16.:24:21.

short and very powerful, which is perfect for the drive part of the

:24:21.:24:27.

race. She comes out with an extremely powerful start and a lot

:24:27.:24:32.

of people cannot do that. They cannot take that co-ordination and

:24:32.:24:36.

power and quickness and put it altogether for that type of

:24:36.:24:40.

ballistics be coming out of the blocks and that is the advantages

:24:40.:24:45.

it she has at the beginning of the race. But then the near perfect for

:24:45.:24:48.

me she exhibits throughout the remainder of the rays cannot be

:24:48.:24:55.

matched by anyone else. When the race opens up, because she is so

:24:55.:25:00.

small she does not have that range and the Lake RIM that you get from

:25:00.:25:06.

a taller athlete, yet she covers so much ground. But she has frequency

:25:06.:25:12.

no-one can match. The big fear is always slower, except if it is

:25:12.:25:16.

Usain Bolt. She has got so much frequency and her turnover cannot

:25:16.:25:22.

be matched by anyone else. Some of that comes from natural ability,

:25:22.:25:27.

but a lot of that comes from the efficiency of her stride and her

:25:27.:25:31.

technique. It is a perfect combination bust up if you wanted

:25:31.:25:40.

to build the perfect 100m sprinter, there you have it. Physically you

:25:40.:25:45.

can still be quick and the rangy, but at the moment she is

:25:45.:25:51.

unstoppable. The woman in the lead with all the major global titles

:25:51.:25:59.

right now. Let's head right out onto the field for some hammer.

:25:59.:26:08.

With Paul Dickenson. And this guy is the champion. He

:26:08.:26:12.

produced a remarkable performance in the first round. The longest

:26:12.:26:19.

throw in the world. And nobody has managed to go further, not even the

:26:19.:26:24.

Olympic champion. We have a new name on the roster of Inter

:26:24.:26:31.

national champions. His greatest performance prior to this was as a

:26:31.:26:39.

World Student Games champion. Now he is champion of the world. Two

:26:39.:26:47.

throws over 80 metres. Just 24 years old. Lucas Melic of the Czech

:26:47.:26:57.
:26:57.:27:24.

I am delighted to be able to say that we are handing down to Steve

:27:24.:27:30.

Cram, because it is the medal ceremony for the women's 400m. We

:27:30.:27:36.

get a chance two days after Mo Farah's medal to hear the national

:27:36.:27:42.

anthem wants more of. This is a wonderful moment. Like Denise and a

:27:42.:27:46.

lot of other athletes, we all feel Christine sometimes does not get

:27:46.:27:56.

the respect she deserves. Lots of other athletes in times court the

:27:56.:27:59.

media a bit more and it is not something she has been comfortable

:27:59.:28:09.
:28:09.:28:12.

with. But to everyone she is a fantastic role model. It is

:28:12.:28:18.

fantastic to be able to commentate on great races, especially when it

:28:18.:28:22.

has got somebody like Christine in it. If that does not get their

:28:22.:28:32.
:28:32.:28:32.

hair's standing up on the back of your neck, I do not month what will.

:28:32.:28:42.
:28:42.:28:48.

She talked about leaving nothing behind. She wanted or her team

:28:48.:28:52.

members to do that. That is what she did today and she left nothing

:28:52.:29:02.
:29:02.:29:06.

behind. That was a good performance from her. In the outside lane her

:29:06.:29:10.

chances were difficult, but she finished really strong year. The

:29:10.:29:14.

defending world champion must have thought it was going to be another

:29:14.:29:19.

world title. As she approached the line, even when she crossed the

:29:19.:29:27.

line, I think she thought she had one. Leaning back providing a small

:29:27.:29:30.

window of opportunity which Christine Ohuruogu jumped straight

:29:30.:29:40.
:29:40.:29:40.

through. Commonwealth gold medal, an Olympic gold medal and an

:29:40.:29:46.

Olympic silver medal, but now the first British woman ever to win two

:29:46.:29:52.

world titles. Christine Ohuruogu is the world champion again and is

:29:52.:29:59.

also now the British record holder. One of Britain's greatest athletes

:29:59.:30:08.

ever. An emotional moment for her. We have had some great moments from

:30:08.:30:13.

Christine. This has to rank right up there with that Olympic title in

:30:13.:30:23.
:30:23.:30:23.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:30:23.:31:19.

how much it means to all of the athletes, of course, and for

:31:19.:31:27.

Christine, a sweet moment. She is good friends with Montsho, their

:31:27.:31:32.

careers have intertwined, starting together back in the Athens Olympics

:31:32.:31:40.

back in 2004. But, goodness me, that was close. Four thousandths of a

:31:40.:31:46.

second that she won it by. I didn't know and she did know for a little

:31:46.:31:52.

while and looking at the screen and there is the reaction. And that is

:31:52.:31:59.

typical of Christine, her first thought is for the woman she has

:31:59.:32:06.

beaten. A gold medal, wow, two for Great Britain now. What a night.

:32:06.:32:11.

GABBY LOGAN: We are joined by Colin Jackson in here, I will come to you

:32:11.:32:14.

first, because we have not spoken to you about this, seeing the relief

:32:14.:32:20.

and emotional Christine, the wonderful show from Montsho when she

:32:20.:32:24.

goes, wow. The rocket of Christine Ohuruogu came when it added. She did

:32:24.:32:28.

not give up, that is the most important thing, she kept driving

:32:28.:32:32.

for the line and look at the actual photo finish, Montsho's hips are

:32:32.:32:39.

about 30 centimetres in front of Christine. Montsho glided through,

:32:39.:32:46.

and it is about 400m, not 399.5. have a great interview with Montsho

:32:46.:32:49.

from Phil Jones and he asked her about her relationship with

:32:49.:32:54.

Christine and she said, I don't get on with any of the other girls which

:32:54.:32:57.

was very candid but Christine is such a lovely person and that

:32:57.:33:00.

embrace at the end, it is not just Montsho who believes that, she's

:33:00.:33:05.

clearly loved amongst the British athletes as well. She is such a nice

:33:05.:33:08.

person and the captain of the great British as well. When it happens to

:33:09.:33:14.

the good guys, it feels even better, doesn't it, Denise? It inspires

:33:14.:33:20.

everybody to go that extra bit, those extra four thousandths of a

:33:20.:33:25.

second to get the job done. And she has been through a lot but she has

:33:25.:33:31.

never given up, she still wants to do the best she can and, as Steve

:33:32.:33:35.

said, she does not get involved in a lot of extracurricular activities

:33:35.:33:45.
:33:45.:33:55.

and commercial activities, she is a true professional of the sport, she

:33:55.:33:58.

has studied at what she has had to do to get this performance out of

:33:58.:34:00.

herself and she executed perfectly. Another one here with a sibling

:34:00.:34:03.

hair, her sister may be used in the relays and in the trials, she was

:34:03.:34:05.

nervously watching her sister's performance, and they will all be

:34:05.:34:08.

watching this in the family and enjoying this as well. And she is

:34:08.:34:11.

taking it all in and absorbing it. I think Phil Jones has got her again!

:34:11.:34:14.

We have indeed. Fresh from the medal ceremony. How was it for you, I have

:34:14.:34:18.

never seen you like that before. don't know what to say. I think I am

:34:18.:34:27.

yet to pass out! Matt Harvey" the medal. For me, it is hard that it

:34:27.:34:33.

has been great -- let's have a look at the medal. I needed a national

:34:33.:34:43.
:34:43.:34:43.

record to cement my 400 metre crown. I am so happy, and that PB was long

:34:43.:34:47.

overdue and it has been such a hard three days. I told my coach earlier

:34:47.:34:53.

today, I thought I was going mad. You go for a whole load of emotions

:34:53.:35:01.

that you can't quite explain, it is so weird. It is not very nice! But

:35:01.:35:09.

thank God I... To God, be the glory, that is what got me through. It kept

:35:09.:35:16.

me sane and my sister is here so I will celebrate with her afterwards.

:35:16.:35:21.

It has been a wonderful occasion for us all, your family especially.

:35:21.:35:28.

and I am so happy. I don't know what to say, it is really hard, I am just

:35:28.:35:35.

so grateful and thankful... I don't know! I think your emotion say it

:35:35.:35:40.

all, Christine, thanks for talking to us. We can bring in another

:35:40.:35:47.

champion... Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, brilliant performance,

:35:47.:35:57.
:35:57.:35:58.

what a victory, what a marginal victory. I had my strategy, in the

:35:58.:36:06.

heats, and I have a pain in my left butt cheek! It was really hurting

:36:06.:36:16.

but I knew I worked for and I just executed. I was really focused on

:36:16.:36:20.

that, just execution not on anybody else. Nobody would have guessed you

:36:20.:36:24.

had injury, you were so consummate in the semifinal and then to do it

:36:24.:36:29.

again in the final. That is what the champion is and I am surrounded by

:36:29.:36:33.

great people, my coach, my manager, my masseuse and everybody who played

:36:33.:36:40.

a part in team MVP will stop I was really nervous about feeling the

:36:40.:36:45.

pain and Mike coach was saying block it out and he will be fine. I am

:36:45.:36:48.

ready and grateful for the opportunity to come here and be my

:36:48.:36:53.

best and actually win. Wonderful, wonderful moment for you and I am

:36:53.:36:56.

sure there are many more for you in your career. Thank you for talking

:36:56.:37:03.

to us. Thank you. There is Valerie Adams, head and shoulders above the

:37:03.:37:13.
:37:13.:37:13.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:37:13.:38:08.

rest receiving her gold and for New Switzerland and she spends a lot of

:38:08.:38:11.

time which comes over from New Zealand and how nice that you gets

:38:11.:38:15.

her medal ceremony after Ostapchuk denied her that moment in London but

:38:15.:38:20.

was subsequently banned for taking drugs and Valerie Adams never got

:38:21.:38:24.

that moment at the other big games last year so she is enjoying this

:38:24.:38:29.

one. We have had a whirlwind 20 minutes, it has been like... Never

:38:29.:38:39.
:38:39.:38:39.

mind, super Saturday, 'Mazing Monday! What about manic Monday?

:38:39.:38:48.

Shelley praise is Friday -- Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. I think she

:38:48.:38:56.

called it her buttock cheeks. I don't know if it works with me.

:38:56.:39:00.

you know what was interesting, I am so glad she kept her hair colour

:39:00.:39:04.

that she told you that she was going to wear in Paris. You asked her,

:39:04.:39:09.

what colour your happy and she said thing. She has added to it, it is

:39:09.:39:13.

more pink. She has other hairdressing salon in Jamaica, you

:39:13.:39:15.

can get your hair done, a free advert. There are other hairdressers

:39:16.:39:22.

of course! They will make you run faster. She is built perfectly

:39:22.:39:28.

without the hair from what Michael is saying. We have not had time to

:39:28.:39:31.

review the hurdles so perfect that you have come along, Colin. We have

:39:31.:39:36.

a champion but we were not predicting, Aries Merritt, the man

:39:36.:39:40.

in form from last year, and the world record, coming into this

:39:40.:39:45.

season but all change at the top. would be eight struggle for him from

:39:45.:39:47.

the off because right at the beginning of the year, he struggled

:39:47.:39:54.

with his hamstring and he was always searching for that fast performance.

:39:54.:39:59.

When you're looking for that and then you lose it, it moves away from

:39:59.:40:03.

you and you pine for this opportunity to get into the speed

:40:03.:40:07.

and Aries was always pushing for that, and that is where he suffered.

:40:07.:40:16.

COMMENTATOR: Oliver the quickest, and alongside him Andrew Riley from

:40:16.:40:20.

Jamaica, which is in trying to get in there but it is Oliver powering

:40:20.:40:24.

his way through. Oliver comes through to take it, second place,

:40:24.:40:31.

Ryan Wilson but David Oliver finally gets his hands on the World

:40:31.:40:36.

Championship gold and an emphatic, overpowering victory for this

:40:36.:40:40.

powerful American. It was not Aries Merritt, it was not Jason

:40:40.:40:44.

Richardson, the defending champion, it was David Oliver who becomes

:40:44.:40:54.
:40:54.:40:57.

shoulders, how did that sound? great, man. It has been a long time

:40:57.:41:03.

coming, lots of injuries but now I have got a cup to perform. It has

:41:03.:41:07.

been a long process and sacrifice and I am happy to be representing

:41:07.:41:14.

the USA and hear the national anthem later on. It is one thing to want to

:41:14.:41:18.

have it but then to deliver it, a world winning time when it mattered

:41:18.:41:21.

the most. Yes, it feels great to perform when you are capable of

:41:21.:41:24.

doing it. Is that of running around like a donkey for a couple of

:41:24.:41:29.

years! You just want to enjoy some success, man. I was able to come

:41:29.:41:33.

through tonight and it was great competition, everybody ran well,

:41:33.:41:39.

great to see Ryan who went away more than I did, 32 years old, made his

:41:39.:41:41.

first heat and got a silver medal at the World Championships, it is a

:41:41.:41:47.

big, big time opportunity for him. You have been through a lot, you

:41:47.:41:51.

were invincible and now you are back on top of the world. I feel that I

:41:51.:41:56.

am one of the best hurdler is out there and I have been healthy for a

:41:56.:41:59.

whole season and I was a little rough at the beginning but now

:41:59.:42:01.

things are coming together and now it is time to decompress, enjoy the

:42:01.:42:07.

rest of the season. I love being in Europe, I know it is not my

:42:07.:42:10.

birthright to be a professional athlete so I enjoy every moment,

:42:10.:42:14.

even when things are not going so well but when they are going well, I

:42:14.:42:19.

have to enjoy it even more. Enjoy the night and the ceremony. Thank

:42:19.:42:21.

you. GABBY LOGAN: There he is, the new

:42:21.:42:25.

world champion, Colin. We said it before in the semifinals. The

:42:25.:42:31.

variety of techniques and body shapes in the hurdles and he is a

:42:31.:42:35.

big guy but he glides and tonight, everything went well for him.

:42:35.:42:43.

shed a couple of pounds. About 7-macro, and he is a big, strong

:42:43.:42:49.

guy. And he gets into this rolling technique. When he snakes over the

:42:49.:42:54.

barrier, the whole weight goes forward and that is what increases

:42:54.:42:58.

his tempo and he is excellent at that. When he is in the groove, he

:42:58.:43:01.

is hard to beat because all the forces are going in the right

:43:01.:43:06.

direction. That is exactly what Will Sharman said the opposite happens to

:43:06.:43:12.

him. A not too Will Sharman, because our stats man has pointed out that

:43:12.:43:16.

he joins Tony Jarrett as the only Brit to have made three successive

:43:16.:43:19.

World Championship finals. Do you think that he is having a dig at

:43:20.:43:26.

you? I think so but don't worry about it, I know where he sleeps!

:43:26.:43:36.
:43:36.:43:38.

You do have the two G Bloom. It was only a battle for silver and bronze

:43:38.:43:45.

because your description was she will press the buttons, and price.

:43:45.:43:49.

-- Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. She looked so good. That speaks to the

:43:49.:43:55.

confidence of her. When you have one that many championships and as long

:43:55.:43:58.

as she executes correctly, she will probably win the race because nobody

:43:58.:44:01.

can match up. And we see it right here, it is unbelievable. The

:44:01.:44:08.

execution of this race, she did not do anything wrong, nothing was

:44:08.:44:14.

average, everything was excellent from start to finish. And what is so

:44:14.:44:18.

amazing to me, about her when we see her here when she is unbelievable

:44:18.:44:25.

the talent and execution of race, her joy. Her joy, this was the first

:44:25.:44:30.

championship she has ever won, you would think to look at her, she is

:44:30.:44:35.

so relaxed on the start line and she is then so excited after the race,

:44:35.:44:45.
:44:45.:45:11.

just a joy to see her performing and Everyone seems to come back at her.

:45:12.:45:16.

Is it a good sign for the tour hundred? That did not happen today,

:45:16.:45:22.

she established a gap and maintained it. She said this year

:45:22.:45:28.

she is starting to embrace the 200m. She thinks she may be a better 200m

:45:29.:45:35.

runner up. She shied away from it initially, so it will be

:45:35.:45:39.

interesting to see what happens later in the week. That is ominous

:45:39.:45:45.

for the rest of the field will stop it is quite worrying. The guys have

:45:45.:45:48.

said it will pull start I would like to emphasise the range of

:45:48.:45:55.

emotions we have had tonight there are stuck you have seen the

:45:55.:46:00.

ecstatic Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce reaction. Christine's emotions

:46:00.:46:04.

which was disbelief that she is there again for a stark after

:46:04.:46:11.

Amantle Montsho's dominance. beat her in Birmingham. She had

:46:11.:46:20.

that at the back of her mind. I know how to beat her. Another man

:46:20.:46:30.
:46:30.:46:31.

that came back and he looked like he was beaten this season. That was

:46:31.:46:35.

a hard stop it. We have not even got a float of him. Shall we relive

:46:35.:46:45.
:46:45.:47:01.

Now Amantle Montsho is shifting through the gears. Christine

:47:01.:47:09.

Ohuruogu will have to stay in contact. Round the pub then.

:47:09.:47:15.

Amantle Montsho has not stamped her a 30 or and this yet. Hastings has

:47:15.:47:21.

gone past Christine Ohuruogu will stop Christine Ohuruogu is coming

:47:21.:47:29.

fast and is coming quick, about will it be quick enough? Christine

:47:29.:47:39.
:47:39.:47:42.

might just make it for a start did she get it? 10m to go she was not

:47:42.:47:48.

there. Five metres to go, she was not there. Three metres to go and

:47:48.:47:57.

she was not there. Did she get it? We are waiting. She is looking, we

:47:57.:48:04.

are looking. The photo-finish will be the only thing to determine this.

:48:04.:48:09.

She smiles. The two of them are pretty good friends and they know

:48:09.:48:17.

each other well. A lot of respect. She has got it! A national record.

:48:17.:48:21.

Another gold medal. Christine Ohuruogu is the world champion

:48:21.:48:30.

again. Amantle Montsho cannot believe it. If he needed cheering

:48:30.:48:35.

up at any time in the next week, go to the website and what's that

:48:35.:48:41.

again and again. The determination on her face, Colin, it is just a

:48:41.:48:47.

picture. Amantle Montsho is not running her race. She keeps

:48:47.:48:50.

glancing up at the scoreboard watching when Christine is coming

:48:50.:49:00.

at her. She can see her coming. knows she is going to come. There

:49:00.:49:06.

is nothing you can do in the last 100m and then if you know she is

:49:06.:49:11.

coming because you are watching it on the screen, why would you not

:49:11.:49:17.

dip? She is going to hate this moment for the rest of her life.

:49:17.:49:24.

She literally gave it away. never see Christine like this will

:49:24.:49:29.

stop she has a range of emotions when she has won and when she is

:49:29.:49:35.

down in the dumps, but we never see tears from her. She said it herself,

:49:35.:49:42.

to win it with a national record as well. It was Kathy Cook's for a

:49:42.:49:45.

solo of the stock that is part of the emotion, and breathing,

:49:46.:49:52.

culling? When you look at what she has achieved, she has been

:49:52.:49:56.

Commonwealth champion and Olympic champion and world champion and now

:49:56.:50:01.

to win this and take that record, I have no doubt she has held Kathy

:50:01.:50:11.
:50:11.:50:17.

And now she has beaten her. Christine has taken that incentive

:50:17.:50:27.
:50:27.:50:27.

into everything she has done. It almost put a cap on her career, it

:50:27.:50:33.

is almost complete. You can get wrapped up in things, in the moment,

:50:33.:50:37.

and when you think of the year, with Andy Murray and Chris Froome

:50:37.:50:41.

and you would put this moment up their breaking barriers and moving

:50:41.:50:46.

through it and cementing yourself on this board. She is one of

:50:46.:50:53.

Britain's best athletes ever. We saw what Mo Farah has done and what

:50:53.:50:57.

Sebastian Coe has done, but Christine has come back time and

:50:57.:51:02.

time again and taken on the best in the world and beat them in their

:51:02.:51:08.

own game. She is an outstanding athlete in my opinion. Kathy Cook

:51:08.:51:14.

and her family are watching at home, a bittersweet moment. We lose a

:51:14.:51:20.

record it is not great. You lost your 200m record, I know you said

:51:20.:51:26.

Europe brother of and you're not crumpet the step did I come in a

:51:26.:51:34.

bit grumpy that day? It is that passage of time. She will be a bit

:51:34.:51:37.

disappointed, but you could not wish for a nicer, well-respected

:51:37.:51:44.

athlete to take it. I am sure she is therefore stop hello, Cathy.

:51:44.:51:51.

Another great story is Valerie Adams whose gold medal this

:51:51.:51:57.

evening... Her first throw was the gold medal. You are an expert on

:51:57.:52:04.

the shot put. I love it is athlete, she is outstanding and dominant and

:52:04.:52:10.

her technique is faultless. It is nice to see went an athlete is a

:52:10.:52:16.

complete package. She can complete these great performances time and

:52:16.:52:22.

time again. Motivation going forward, enjoy your athletics and

:52:22.:52:30.

keep winning. Many congratulations, you have created history. That is

:52:30.:52:37.

four world output championship titles in a row. Can you sum it up?

:52:37.:52:41.

This is the biggest competition in the calendar and I am happy to put

:52:41.:52:47.

it in the bag and claim my title world No. Four the stock without my

:52:47.:52:55.

coach, who was 70 this year, I would not have been able to do it.

:52:55.:53:01.

I am stoked, I am over the moon bow stuck you always do new Zealand

:53:01.:53:06.

proud. Use seems so calm and assured and you deliver every time.

:53:06.:53:12.

Looks can be deceiving. I tried to stay calm at the end and try to

:53:12.:53:18.

think of the things that I could do. I was very consistent. And the 4th

:53:19.:53:23.

world title. Another magical moment, congratulations.

:53:23.:53:28.

Another one who has won countless titles and medals and the jury she

:53:28.:53:33.

keeps on getting from her athletics and her medals is lovely to see the

:53:33.:53:37.

stock it is a blessing when you are injury-free and able to do what you

:53:37.:53:43.

want to do. It is what we all crave and desire and when it happens you

:53:43.:53:49.

keep thriving off it. When you have been at the top of the podium, you

:53:49.:53:55.

want to keep on doing it again and again. If you can cement that in

:53:55.:53:59.

your mind that it is a joy and a quick profession and a great job to

:53:59.:54:06.

have. It is a wonderful feeling. This man is happy way too often for

:54:06.:54:13.

my liking. Valerie Adams wins every time and that consistency gives you

:54:13.:54:18.

so much confidence and she comes into these championships with that

:54:18.:54:22.

confidence. When you know you are better and you have the talent, you

:54:22.:54:27.

control your own destiny for a stock that is why she is so

:54:27.:54:32.

consistent. That seems to be the vein of form at Mo Farah is in at

:54:32.:54:38.

the moment. He won the gold medal in the 10,000m on Saturday and he

:54:38.:54:43.

is racing in the first heat of the 5000 tomorrow morning. Brendan met

:54:43.:54:51.

up with him to have a chat specifically about the 5000.

:54:51.:54:57.

What do we look forward to? Their heats? I am not a morning person,

:54:57.:55:04.

but I'd go out there and do the most minimum possible. But in the

:55:04.:55:09.

final things are going to be quite exciting. The team has to do

:55:10.:55:19.

something. Because of the 10,000m, they have to win the five. Yes,

:55:19.:55:23.

even the Kenyan teams are strong and it is going to be a lot more

:55:23.:55:28.

hard it will stop you have got to believe in yourself and you have to

:55:28.:55:34.

go in there and say, I am going to beat these guys in your head, and

:55:34.:55:40.

at the same time respect them. You have to think you are better than

:55:40.:55:45.

them. You have good to come with believe and be at the front, but

:55:45.:55:51.

Kenenisa Bekele is the only man who has ever won the double at the

:56:01.:56:06.

World Championships. How would you feel stepping into his shoes?

:56:06.:56:10.

would be great because he is a great athlete. I remember when I
