Birmingham Grand Prix Athletics

Welcome to Birmingham. This Diamond League meeting is packed with global

stars. Just one week ago we were saying goodbye to Switzerland after

the great British team enjoyed a very successful European

Championships. They finished top of the table with a record haul of gold

medals. It certainly was a week to remember. COMMENTATOR: Her whole

career has been about this moment! It is gold for Jo Pavey! And now Mo

Farah will come away with the win. It is gold! He made it look easy.

Absolutely dominant here. Come on Martyn Rooney! Way he goes.

Here comes Smith. Matthew Hudson-Smith! Martyn Rooney getting

the gold. Hurdling so smoothly, Tiffany Porter. Adam Gemili! It is

gold for Great Britain. Adam Gemili... He should bring this

home. It is a new British record. Mo Farah... He is steaming away.

This very knowledgeable crowd is here in Birmingham, and

they have come out to celebrate some of that success. Also they want to

enjoy some of the global stars that we will see here. This is the

business end Diamond League. This is where we

bring back the Diamond League. This is where we

not seen them for a few months because we enjoyed the Commonwealth

Games and the European Championships. They have been racing

all round the world, but this Diamond League is loaded with

talent, and then at 5pm we have the IPC Grand Prix final. It is a

fabulous afternoon of athletics. Colin, let's talk a little bit about

the challenges for the British athletes in particular who have come

off the back of two, not just one, but to be Championships. Presumably

they are looking to peak at those, and then they have the bring their

talents and their best here today. You can imagine that physically they

will be exhausted because they have worked very hard to achieve what

they achieve in major championships. Sometimes the motivation can wane a

little bit because they have achieved what they wanted to set out

for the whole season. That is the dilemma that they are under right

now, I guess. It is difficult. But they will be here and it is the

Diamond League. The crowd will help them and left them with their

performances. We keep our fingers crossed that we see some strong

performances on the world level. Exciting to see exactly where they

are. They might have picked up medals at the Commonwealth Games and

the Europeans, but when they pitch themselves against the best from the

states, it should be interesting. It should be interesting but Colin

Jackson has hit the nail on the head, mental fatigue is tough. Some

of them obviously have a point to prove, but misery against the world

's best is always tough after major championships. But as he said, the

atmosphere is great and the motivation, hopefully, will be to

keep adding points to the Diamond League total. Then the IPC Grand

Prix final. We finished the European Championship yesterday. Where does

this sit in the calendar of events for the IPC? This is hugely

important because it is hugely important because if the second year

Grand Prix. Obviously we are trying to bring together a series of events

and this is the ninth in the calendar. What can be seen as the

best in the world, some very targeted events and it is going to

be some brilliant competition. 37 events taking you through until 7pm

this evening. It will be a fabulous afternoon. The stars are certainly

out in Birmingham. Eilidh Child, the golden child in

Martyn Rooney gets the gold! That is the world record! David

Rudisha is the Olympic champion. Van Rhijn storming through, she will

take the victory. Tiffany Porter is hurdling so smoothly. Mo Farah will

come away with a victory, it is gold.

STUDIO: Is always a favourite, David Rudisha. He was second in the

Commonwealth Games, just coming back after an injury struck near in 2013.

But the Olympic champion has so many fans in Great Britain and they will

be intrigued to see how he gets on in the 600 metres. Steve Cram will
