league which is promising much. The talent that is here tonight is deep.

:00:54.:01:02.

Two events need attention. Kiprop is going for the world record. Colin

:01:03.:01:06.

Jackson is alongside me. Conditions just about perfect. Almost as warm

:01:07.:01:14.

as the UK at the moment! The track is fast. They come here for a good

:01:15.:01:22.

times? Spot on. The conditions attract the athletes. They can

:01:23.:01:28.

concentrate on just performing. Because it is just before the major

:01:29.:01:31.

Championships, the athletes are ready to go. It is their first,

:01:32.:01:36.

their last head-to-head competition until they go to train again for the

:01:37.:01:42.

Majors. And exciting women's 400 metres hurdles to start. Zuzana

:01:43.:01:56.

Hejnova is the name to look out for. Kaliese Spencer is her biggest

:01:57.:01:57.

challenger. There is Hejnova. This is her first

:01:58.:02:12.

race. She will be anxious. All of the women she is up against a posted

:02:13.:02:17.

quick times. It is for her to prove her choke and her condition. Police

:02:18.:02:28.

Spencer has gone under 55 seconds. She will try to do that again today.

:02:29.:02:30.

Your She will try to do that again today.

:02:31.:02:43.

and Stewart story. Carter has had a collegiate career.

:02:44.:02:47.

She will be very good. Moilne stood up. She has got a good

:02:48.:03:42.

excuse. The crowd applauded for the pole vault, which has started on the

:03:43.:03:47.

opposite side of the arena. She has a very good reason. I hope they do

:03:48.:03:52.

not cause a problem for her. I think it was legitimate. Just waiting to

:03:53.:04:00.

see what the verdict is. We talked about the injury for hedge of --

:04:01.:04:13.

hedge over, and has taken a lot longer for her to get back. She is

:04:14.:04:18.

up against it in terms of getting ready for perhaps the European

:04:19.:04:20.

Championships. Interesting to see how she goes. Not the athletes's

:04:21.:04:25.

Ford. A green card. Ten barriers ahead of them. A big

:04:26.:04:44.

crowd here. Not much in it as they go towards

:04:45.:05:25.

the first turn. Spencer, who runs a pretty even paced 400 metres hurdles

:05:26.:05:31.

these days, coasting down the back straight chasing Dan Carter. She is

:05:32.:05:34.

probably just leading the race at the moment. The South African is

:05:35.:05:39.

going well but she has been run down. They reached the critical 300

:05:40.:05:52.

metres position. The champion, Kaliese Spencer, has won all of the

:05:53.:05:55.

races this season. Hejnova is struggling. Spencer wintered. Moilne

:05:56.:06:03.

in second place. In third place was Cassandra Tate of the United States.

:06:04.:06:11.

I'd spiked a bit quicker than that. Nevertheless, it was a commanding

:06:12.:06:18.

run. She has really contained this race now. She runs a very steady

:06:19.:06:24.

first 200. Works between 200 and 300 and goes away in the last 100. She

:06:25.:06:30.

has all the confidence in the world to do that. She has been the

:06:31.:06:37.

undoubted number one. Moilne could not work off the last two hurdles.

:06:38.:06:42.

Carter out of it completely. Poor run from her. And Hejnova, it was a

:06:43.:06:48.

risk for her to come back in this race, and she was shown up. These

:06:49.:06:59.

are low hurdles. Watching Spencer down the back straight, she is just

:07:00.:07:03.

gliding over them. Almost stepping over them. She has got the ability

:07:04.:07:08.

to do that. With the flat speed she has as well, maintaining what has

:07:09.:07:13.

already been a cracking year. Not as quick as we have seen from her.

:07:14.:07:17.

Probably not the best race we have seen this year.

:07:18.:07:26.

She is though, Kaliese Spencer, the class act of this event this year.

:07:27.:07:36.

She won the quickest race. That was nowhere near her best but she can

:07:37.:07:39.

only beat the field that is there. What did you take from that race? A

:07:40.:07:46.

very rusty performance from Hejnova. With that in mind you have to take

:07:47.:07:49.

into consideration that he it is our first race, yes it is hot

:07:50.:07:54.

competition, but she can go back into training and thinks to herself,

:07:55.:08:01.

if I can improve... She is a real class athlete, as we know. She is

:08:02.:08:05.

world champion. We know what she can deliver. You have got to believe

:08:06.:08:08.

that when time comes, she will be a threat. Whether she will be able to

:08:09.:08:15.

do that by the middle of August though... Eilidh Child is fourth on

:08:16.:08:22.

the Diamond League standings. Her mind focused very heavily on

:08:23.:08:25.

Glasgow. She is the poster child for Glasgow. The confidence that Kaliese

:08:26.:08:31.

Spencer is showing right now is overwhelming. Because she is so

:08:32.:08:35.

confident and assured offer performance... Eilidh Child, that

:08:36.:08:42.

European Championships could be hers. We are up and running in

:08:43.:08:48.

Monaco. Here are some more stars coming out to shine tonight. The

:08:49.:08:53.

men's high jump has been thrilling all season. Bondarenko, Ukhov and

:08:54.:08:59.

Barshim will do battle again tonight. Asbel Kiprop will attempt

:09:00.:09:05.

to break the world record over 1500 metres, a mark that has stood for 16

:09:06.:09:12.

years. Britain's Jessica George is celebrating selection for the

:09:13.:09:14.

European Championships. She test yourself against the world's best

:09:15.:09:21.

tonight. The sprint hurdles include the world record holder, the world

:09:22.:09:25.

champion and the Diamond league leader. And there is a mouthwatering

:09:26.:09:34.

women's 100 metres. This is how the evening is shaping up.

:09:35.:10:03.

We have got a fabulous night in store. We do have two touch upon a

:10:04.:10:10.

more '' more unsavoury things. Let's start with the good. To have six men

:10:11.:10:19.

over 240 and the men's high jump, it is not a one trick race, is it? This

:10:20.:10:26.

world record is threatening? That is the great thing. It is about true

:10:27.:10:30.

competition. None of these jumpers can rest on their laurels. If they

:10:31.:10:37.

want to win and want to win the Diamond league, they have the jump

:10:38.:10:43.

high. Bondarenko did 2.42 in New York. Yes, and that took a lot of

:10:44.:10:50.

people's breath away. Today we have six athletes who have done it. Ukhov

:10:51.:11:01.

was 2.61 in Doha. Yes, that is exciting for me. This is a

:11:02.:11:06.

knowledgeable audience in Monaco. I am as excited as everybody else. I

:11:07.:11:11.

am a huge fan. I know you are. The next bit of the good and bad will

:11:12.:11:20.

displease you. Gay and captain are performing tonight. Whatever they do

:11:21.:11:26.

on the track, their parental '' the performances are forever tainted?

:11:27.:11:30.

You are so right. Tainted not only by themselves but the audience. We

:11:31.:11:37.

think about what happened in their past. We believed in their

:11:38.:11:41.

performances. Unfortunately for us, the fact that Tyson had a little

:11:42.:11:47.

negotiation to get his banned down, it doesn't leave a nice flavour in

:11:48.:11:51.

the mouth of somebody who is a fan, like myself. Let's get back to the

:11:52.:11:57.

positive. David Rudisha, he graced the track '' he graces the track. He

:11:58.:12:07.

is sublime. His style is beautiful. In Glasgow we saw it yet again.

:12:08.:12:14.

They will all, we suspect, be chasing this man. Can they beat the

:12:15.:12:20.

legendary David Rudisha? The crowd roaring him on. They know they are

:12:21.:12:25.

seeing a special, special athlete. He strides with power down the back

:12:26.:12:30.

straight. What a magnificent sight. This is quick! David Rudisha is back

:12:31.:12:36.

in top form. He is going to win this race. Watch the clock. 1.43.35. The

:12:37.:12:42.

fastest in the world this year. And a race which, for David Rudisha,

:12:43.:12:54.

signalled he is not far away. It is a fabulous field for Rudisha

:12:55.:13:03.

to join the ceiling. '' this evening. Let's see what sort of

:13:04.:13:13.

challenge this field will give him tonight. We know conditions are

:13:14.:13:18.

good. The track is quick. Let's join the commentators, Steve and Stewart.

:13:19.:13:30.

Kaki, the man from Sudan, lining up alongside Lewandowski. Kaki has been

:13:31.:13:37.

out of sorts recently. I wonder what sort of Ron Webber get from him

:13:38.:13:43.

tonight. The world champion last year, Mohammed Aman, in the absence

:13:44.:13:50.

of David Rudisha. Still just 20 years old.

:13:51.:14:02.

Bosse. So much young talent in this field. Seventh in the World

:14:03.:14:13.

Championships. Had a great year last year. Rudisha, the Olympic champion,

:14:14.:14:22.

the world record holder. 143.34 in Glasgow. Looked almost back to his

:14:23.:14:28.

best. Was in great form for the first 700 and tonight, he'll rely on

:14:29.:14:35.

his regular pacemaker, Tangui to take him out in 49.5. He wants a

:14:36.:14:41.

good, hard race, and he'll get one against the clock and this stellar

:14:42.:14:47.

field. Rudisha, Aman, Amos, and then you can throw in the others as well

:14:48.:14:51.

who, on their day, can give each other something to think about.

:14:52.:14:55.

Men's 800 metres. Chatting to Rudisha yesterday, he

:14:56.:15:07.

said how much confidence Glasgow had given him. Everything's settled down

:15:08.:15:16.

in training now. He will be taking on Amos in the red. Could be the

:15:17.:15:23.

danger, raw talent from bats war that. Rudisha moving in behind his

:15:24.:15:30.

team'mate Bosse, Cheruiyot. Aman. Further back in the middle of the

:15:31.:15:34.

field is Solomon, the front'running American happy to follow Rudisha at

:15:35.:15:36.

the moment. The Australian at back. 49.41 is quick and just what was

:15:37.:15:57.

asked for. Amos. A gap. Aman realises he's got

:15:58.:16:05.

to do something. Has he let Rudisha get away? Looks serene at the moment

:16:06.:16:09.

and Aman having to work hard to get back. Amos looks dangerous. Bosse

:16:10.:16:18.

still having a fabulous run. Rudisha sees he's behind him. Amos on his

:16:19.:16:23.

shoulder will fight and scrap. Aman still can't get to the first three.

:16:24.:16:32.

Amos. Now he realises Amos is there. Brilliant run. Aman finishing

:16:33.:16:34.

incredibly quickly. Amos gets the win. 142.46. Smashed

:16:35.:16:48.

his personal best. What a race from this young man. He ran the 00 metres

:16:49.:16:53.

in the Diamond League last week in Glasgow. Rudisha was preferring to

:16:54.:16:57.

have a bit of a clear run. He's going to be running against him at

:16:58.:17:00.

the Commonwealth Games and Rudisha knows when he's not at his best.

:17:01.:17:08.

They are going to follow on from him and hang on to him. He's a fighter,

:17:09.:17:16.

a scrapper. He doesn't get up. He's ungamely at times.

:17:17.:17:24.

A national record for Bosse. Aman finished strongly in third as well.

:17:25.:17:36.

Watch out for this man. Yes. This was some talk in Glasgow

:17:37.:17:45.

that Rudisha, despite the fact he won that race, his recovery took a

:17:46.:17:52.

long, long time. He ends up in fifth place because Aman is behind Bosse.

:17:53.:17:56.

They all come and jump down on him. Look at that. They are all there.

:17:57.:18:01.

But Amos, he is ungamely, you are right, there's no finesse about him,

:18:02.:18:06.

he's just gritted his teeth, just got on with it and it was a fine,

:18:07.:18:11.

fine performance. A new world lead, a meeting record as well. And that

:18:12.:18:21.

record was held in 1999 from a Dane. That tells you the quality of this

:18:22.:18:25.

event. We said it was tough and my goonedness me, didn't it prove to be

:18:26.:18:34.

so. '' my goodness me. Five men under 143. Not often you

:18:35.:18:39.

say that. We'll have to check the statisticians to see if that's

:18:40.:18:45.

happened before. Rudisha, the fastest time of all'time. Amos

:18:46.:18:49.

really has announced himself on the big stage. He obviously did at the

:18:50.:18:54.

Olympics and has followed that up with some big wins already. But this

:18:55.:18:57.

is perhaps the best run of his career. Lower down, you can see

:18:58.:19:05.

national record, personal best and equalling the national record of

:19:06.:19:13.

Australia, Rowe, 144.40. That record stood for 46 years.

:19:14.:19:18.

Equalled it, not quite taken it yet. What a way to start this evening.

:19:19.:19:28.

What a race! Rudisha said in Glasgow he felt he can go quicker. He went

:19:29.:19:34.

down to 142, albeit just under, 14 `3rks but ahead of him a field of

:19:35.:19:38.

very fast men and Amos still just 20 years old? An incredible race and

:19:39.:19:44.

800 metres never lets us down with sheer excitement, quality of

:19:45.:19:48.

performance too. You saw everything there. It's breathtaking. Goes to

:19:49.:19:54.

show you how good the conditions are. Osagie, hello, how are you?

:19:55.:19:59.

That was an interesting race to be in, I imagine, because everyone was

:20:00.:20:04.

so quick ahead of you? It was really quick. At the trials a couple of

:20:05.:20:11.

weeks ago, I didn't have a good run actually. My hamstring has given me

:20:12.:20:18.

a nightmare the last couple of weeks. It was OK that run but it was

:20:19.:20:22.

a great opportunity to run faster. Gutted that I'm not in the shape I

:20:23.:20:27.

wanted to be. How quicker can you get into that shape, the

:20:28.:20:30.

Commonwealth Games are fast'approaching? How quick I get

:20:31.:20:39.

fit, if I'm lucky, just over one week to go. Came here to run my legs

:20:40.:20:48.

off and did all right. Never fails to deliver, that 800 metres. Having

:20:49.:20:53.

Rudisha back as well, is that adding spice for you? It is for me. I like

:20:54.:21:00.

running this race. I would love to be able to get ahead of him one day

:21:01.:21:04.

but you want to race against the best in the world in this sport.

:21:05.:21:14.

Good to see him back as well? Good to see what distance he can make up

:21:15.:21:18.

with Amos as well? Yes. The Commonwealth Games will be really

:21:19.:21:22.

tough this year as well with the Europeans. Coming out from a

:21:23.:21:25.

different angle, the Commonwealth Games might be different from the

:21:26.:21:26.

Europeans. I'm looking forward to trying to

:21:27.:21:36.

overcome both. Look forward to seeing you get back to your very

:21:37.:21:41.

best. Looking forward to see you. He's still not breathless, you know!

:21:42.:21:46.

That proves to us that he's still very fit indeed. He's just mentioned

:21:47.:21:54.

that he needs to get race sharp. In a couple of weeks he can get in

:21:55.:22:02.

better shape. In good time, yes. The athletics programme starts a week

:22:03.:22:06.

tomorrow, the 26th. The opening ceremony is next Wednesday. We have

:22:07.:22:11.

got another treat for you as well. Exceptional sportsmen, never mind

:22:12.:22:15.

athletics or 800 metre running, there's something coming up that you

:22:16.:22:21.

shouldn't miss. In 2005, a barefoot man walked into a school and was

:22:22.:22:25.

given running shoes and a chance. Where are you going to be in years

:22:26.:22:30.

to come? One man believed he had the talent to be the greatest runner on

:22:31.:22:39.

earth. I had to do something. 100 seconds to beat the world. The David

:22:40.:22:49.

Rudisha Story, Tuesday 22nd July. So 100 Seconds to Beat the World. I

:22:50.:22:54.

don't know about you, but I know where I'm going to be sat, watching

:22:55.:22:59.

that! It promises to be a fantastic watch. Goes back to when he was a

:23:00.:23:04.

kid. The kind of footage that we all dream of wishing that we'd had that

:23:05.:23:08.

footage of Messi when he was a kid or that footage of those greats, so

:23:09.:23:12.

it will be fantastic. A very good watch. I'm looking forward to

:23:13.:23:17.

watching it too. Any room on your sofa? Yes. Let's talk about the

:23:18.:23:20.

British selections. Questioning still in the air, but we know the

:23:21.:23:27.

answers now and there are some that have made the Championships, some

:23:28.:23:37.

that haven't. Dasalou delivered last year at the World Championships, so

:23:38.:23:42.

let's give him another chance. He's been consistent too. Came back with

:23:43.:23:52.

a 10. 075 from '' 10. 03 from Lausanne. James is great.

:23:53.:24:01.

Hudson'Smith was taken by surprise. His reaction was beautiful, wasn't

:24:02.:24:14.

it? ! ? I was in two minds which I preferred, his performance or his

:24:15.:24:19.

reaction. They were both absolutely thrilling. It's nice to see the nice

:24:20.:24:27.

young talent. It meant a lot for him to do something like that. It's

:24:28.:24:31.

exciting. People spend time saying, do they really want it, have they

:24:32.:24:36.

got the hunger for it. He demonstrated that.

:24:37.:24:43.

That could make a difference for him in the next few years. The kind of

:24:44.:24:48.

men he'll be wanting to beat are lining up for the men's 400 metres

:24:49.:24:55.

here. LaShawn Merritt is the outstanding name of course in that

:24:56.:25:05.

field and don't overlook others. It's a strong line'up. No James, of

:25:06.:25:08.

course. Borlee, from Belgium there. Let's

:25:09.:25:21.

join the commentary team for the one'lap race.

:25:22.:25:41.

This is a real character, the Botswana, Makwala, he's a 44.01 this

:25:42.:25:54.

season, a personal best in the 400, so watch out for him. Then you've

:25:55.:25:59.

got Gil Roberts of the United States. He's the American champion,

:26:00.:26:08.

44.53 was his best and Tony McQuay in lane seven. He has got a best of

:26:09.:26:16.

what, 44.92, silver medallist in the World Championships. And Conrad

:26:17.:26:20.

Williams very much part of the Great Britain 400 squad in the past and

:26:21.:26:24.

sixth in the race in Glasgow a week ago. Wonder what LaShawn Merritt can

:26:25.:26:33.

do here, the reigning champion? Borlee, Santos, Merritt, McQuay,

:26:34.:26:43.

Williams and Makwala, the men's 400 metres.

:26:44.:27:17.

Bound to be a quick one. Santos got off pretty quickly. Roberts, the

:27:18.:27:27.

American very fast. Up on McQuay at the moment. Run past Williams.

:27:28.:27:33.

Borlee has made a very fast first 200 metres, and the world champion,

:27:34.:27:38.

LaShawn Merritt looks very, very easy at 200 metres and starts to

:27:39.:27:46.

move between two and three. Makwala has been targeted. Santos coming off

:27:47.:27:50.

the bend quite well. Makwala and Merritt. Outside him, Roberts of the

:27:51.:27:56.

United States. LaShawn Merritt now, Makwala fades. LaShawn is going to

:27:57.:28:00.

take this one, Roberts in second place and Makwala took the third at

:28:01.:28:12.

44.30 for the winner. Pretty tough. Merritt can do this time and time

:28:13.:28:18.

again. Turned Makwala into a third placer actually in the 400 there,

:28:19.:28:27.

the man from Botswana really struggled many the last 40 or 50

:28:28.:28:29.

metres. Merritt is in great form. He's

:28:30.:28:56.

consistent. He's going to be strong. The only man is James who could have

:28:57.:29:03.

been there. I don't know if we thought he was going to run away

:29:04.:29:07.

from him. It was almost when Merritt came away from him, he was like,

:29:08.:29:13.

here we go and you're not going to outstrength him on the home

:29:14.:29:14.

straight. LaShawn Merritt of the USA, to keep

:29:15.:29:30.

churning out those performances... He puts on a performance every time.

:29:31.:29:42.

He never short'changes you? He proves the importance of racing. The

:29:43.:29:46.

more you race, the more confident you get. The more consistent you

:29:47.:29:52.

get. He believes he can go close to 44 seconds virtually every single

:29:53.:29:57.

race. A couple of years ago when he couldn't race, he struggled to

:29:58.:30:00.

return to his form because he was out of race shape. It is important

:30:01.:30:06.

that athletes get out of there and compete as much as they can. The

:30:07.:30:11.

women's shot put was done and dusted earlier tonight before we came on

:30:12.:30:18.

air. And guess who won? Yes, her 53rd victory in a row, Valerie Adams

:30:19.:30:24.

of New Zealand. The outstanding athlete of generation, some might

:30:25.:30:30.

say. She did it yet again. She really is just the most incredible

:30:31.:30:36.

competitor. I think she is one of those unsung heroes. You don't

:30:37.:30:39.

realise how incredible this woman is. 53 victories. Nobody in

:30:40.:30:45.

athletics has put a winning streak like that together for a huge amount

:30:46.:30:50.

of time. That is a quality athlete. Every time I talk to her, I bow. I

:30:51.:30:55.

am in the presence of a goddess. She just laughs. Let's move next event

:30:56.:31:07.

on the track, the men's 1500 metres. Asbel Kiprop is putting in a real

:31:08.:31:11.

fight tonight for the world record. He has made his intentions clear.

:31:12.:31:15.

Last year he was the head of a thrilling race where he posted the

:31:16.:31:21.

fourth fastest time in history. Mo Farah, the Olympic and world

:31:22.:31:28.

champion, against Asbel Kiprop. Kiprop in front, Mo Farah with a

:31:29.:31:38.

chance of running close to 3.30. 2.45, that is fast! Mo Farah is

:31:39.:31:43.

having a great scrap for second place. And Kiprop crosses and Mo

:31:44.:31:54.

Farah may well have just broken my British record for a 1500 metres.

:31:55.:32:03.

There is one man around here who knows just what it takes to break a

:32:04.:32:09.

world record at 1500 metres. I spoke to Steve Cram area. He has made the

:32:10.:32:16.

decision to go for it. It is because he loves it here. He has run his

:32:17.:32:21.

three fastest times here. His experience last year in that great

:32:22.:32:25.

race, he said to the organisers that he would come back and try to break

:32:26.:32:29.

the world record. Easier said than done. A tough field. He has asked

:32:30.:32:36.

for a tough '' fast pace maker. He has prepared for this. He has got a

:32:37.:32:41.

chance, a slim chance. At what point will you know this is a world

:32:42.:32:47.

record? I want him not to be going as well as he think he needs to go.

:32:48.:32:52.

He has gone through the bell here faster than anybody has done. If he

:32:53.:32:59.

is on that sort of time, we will be getting excited. I am not sure he

:33:00.:33:03.

can last at that. I would like to see him slower than that. Then a big

:33:04.:33:08.

last lap. He has to worry about Souleiman following him around as

:33:09.:33:19.

well. It will be a great race. Of course, you saw Mo Farah broke the

:33:20.:33:22.

British record in that race last year, Steve Cram's British record.

:33:23.:33:29.

At that point we were thinking that maybe he may target 1500 in the

:33:30.:33:33.

Commonwealth Games. He ran the marathon. The good news this week

:33:34.:33:39.

coming out of his camp, from his own Twitter feed, is that he is in good

:33:40.:33:43.

shape. He missed out last weekend on the anniversary games in Glasgow. He

:33:44.:33:49.

is fit and he is raring to go for the Commonwealth Games. He is not

:33:50.:33:52.

going to race this weekend. That is good news. That is good news, we

:33:53.:33:59.

hope. He is coming back from not only injury but sickness as well.

:34:00.:34:02.

You know when you are working hard and pushing your body to the limit,

:34:03.:34:08.

what can happen. You can slip easily down a slippery slope when you are

:34:09.:34:11.

pushing your body to these extremes. I will be happy when I see Mo Farah

:34:12.:34:16.

on that line in Glasgow. I don't care which event he is in. Get him

:34:17.:34:21.

on the line and then you will see me smile. Let's talk about this 1500

:34:22.:34:27.

metres. Souleiman, who won the bronze at the World Championships,

:34:28.:34:33.

will push Kiprop hard. Is this going to be a great race or world record?

:34:34.:34:40.

I hope both. We saw when Steve Cram took onside Oita, it got is an

:34:41.:34:46.

amazing world record. Let's hope it happens again today. Kiprop is

:34:47.:34:50.

looking cool and calm. But he knows he has a huge challenge in just

:34:51.:34:56.

taking the victory. To break this record we are talking 54 93 second

:34:57.:35:10.

laps. Incredible ''... It is always about mid'July, as Steve Cram will

:35:11.:35:14.

tell you, that these records go. All the omens are pointing in that

:35:15.:35:21.

direction. Let's get to commentary. This crowd will have a role to play.

:35:22.:35:25.

They have to get behind them. A bit quiet at the moment. I am not sure

:35:26.:35:29.

they know the significance of what is going on here. Kiprop has said he

:35:30.:35:34.

will set his stall out, he is going to go hard and if it doesn't work

:35:35.:35:40.

out, so be it. Last year he ran brilliantly. It resulted in the

:35:41.:35:46.

stunning 3.27.72. He has got Souleiman tucked in behind him. He

:35:47.:35:48.

will be the big danger. Certainly the Souleiman camp was

:35:49.:36:08.

thinking this could be his day. He has lapsed in behind Kiprop, the

:36:09.:36:15.

Olympic champion. He does not have the pressure of going to the

:36:16.:36:18.

Commonwealth Games. Souleiman is tough. This place looks good. That

:36:19.:36:25.

was too quick. 54 seconds for the first 400 metres. They are going to

:36:26.:36:28.

pay for this somewhere down the line. Kiprop, then Souleiman, still

:36:29.:36:39.

going with this pace. That was way too fast. Pacemaker is get a little

:36:40.:36:46.

bit excited. Let's watch the people further back. They are all running

:36:47.:36:51.

quickly. Coming around now with two laps remaining.

:36:52.:37:04.

They are really strong out. That gives you an indication of how very

:37:05.:37:11.

quick it was, that on in '' and even pace of 55... They dropped off on

:37:12.:37:18.

the second lap. I am not surprised after that 54 first. There is a gap

:37:19.:37:25.

now on Souleiman. He has got about 34 metres on him. There is a gap

:37:26.:37:33.

ahead of the rest. They want to be 3.30 at the bell. I am mature that

:37:34.:37:37.

will be the case. They are well strong out. '' I am not sure. They

:37:38.:37:44.

started to gather behind Kiprop. Souleiman is there. Kiplagat will

:37:45.:37:54.

stop '' Kiplagat. Kiprop knows he has got to kick hard for the

:37:55.:38:03.

frontier. '' to the front. Souleiman beginning to rock 'n' roll a little

:38:04.:38:10.

bit. Kiplagat is still close. Kiprop kicks down the back straight. He

:38:11.:38:14.

will want to put some distance between him and the chasing pack.

:38:15.:38:22.

Kiprop opens up two or three metres. Kiplagat goes past Souleiman. Kiprop

:38:23.:38:29.

and Kiplagat will be joined in the home straight. Kiprop has led this

:38:30.:38:34.

effectively all the way. Look at Silas Kiplagat! He starts to kick

:38:35.:38:42.

away. Kiprop paid for really going to it tonight. Great run. Goodness

:38:43.:38:55.

me, what a last lap! Absolutely stunning. Kiprop, despite the fact

:38:56.:39:03.

it was not what he wanted and he certainly did not want to get beaten

:39:04.:39:07.

by this man, he knew the risk was that he would leave the others

:39:08.:39:11.

through a quick time. And so Kiplagat, with a Diamond League

:39:12.:39:14.

record quicker than we had last year, he is the man who takes all of

:39:15.:39:21.

the plaudits. What a race from him. Kiprop in second place. I am

:39:22.:39:37.

watching the time is coming up. One, never to, three, four, five... Maybe

:39:38.:39:45.

six men on the 3.30. What about this from Kiplagat? He was fuller

:39:46.:39:53.

running. He was. He looked so good in the season so far. Full of

:39:54.:39:57.

confidence. He was not with that early pace. He held it off '' he

:39:58.:40:04.

held off it. That was the difference. He will you did not go

:40:05.:40:07.

with Kiprop. Kiprop really paid in the end. What a wonderful, wonderful

:40:08.:40:12.

piece of tactical running from Kiplagat. Wonderful. Diamond League

:40:13.:40:23.

record. Take that! In days gone by, Zurich, Oslo where

:40:24.:40:31.

the fast tracks, these days it is Monaco. Nick Willis in seventh place

:40:32.:40:36.

ran on the 3.30. The New Zealander has set a new record. We have had

:40:37.:40:40.

amassed a record for Ethiopia and Morocco. No, a personal best, sorry

:40:41.:40:51.

for Morocco. Souleiman with a national record from Djibouti.

:40:52.:40:56.

Devastation from Silas Kiplagat. It looked so easy. Comfortable. Kiprop

:40:57.:41:02.

knew he was there to be shot at if he did not get it right. Look at

:41:03.:41:04.

this, a Diamond League record. Seven men under 3.30. Kiplagat now

:41:05.:41:27.

leads the diamond league. What a 1500 metres. '' the Diamond League.

:41:28.:41:38.

Let's take breath. What a wonderful, wonderful race. Eric Kynard

:41:39.:41:51.

attempting to .30. '' two .30. Silver medallist in the Olympic

:41:52.:41:52.

Games. That was a very nice job. Very

:41:53.:42:08.

quick. '' jump. The faster, shorter men will almost attack it straight

:42:09.:42:16.

on. Two metres and 30. We are at the business end of the high jump

:42:17.:42:21.

already. I am still catching my breath after the 1500 metres. She

:42:22.:42:28.

needs to catch some wind behind her here. Never really looked like it. A

:42:29.:42:49.

big field and the women's pole vaulter. Already whittled down to

:42:50.:42:54.

six who have gone clear at this height. Before we build up to the

:42:55.:43:06.

next race on the track, the women's 100 metres, a quick reflection on

:43:07.:43:14.

that one 1500 metres. You can almost see when the pacemakers go off and

:43:15.:43:17.

it gets strong on like that '' out like that, it is not on. Kiplagat

:43:18.:43:24.

played brilliantly? We said it was going to be a tough race for all of

:43:25.:43:29.

these competitors. We said right at the beginning that whatever happened

:43:30.:43:35.

we were going to get a good time. Nick Willis of New Zealand came

:43:36.:43:41.

over, found out he had dipped under 3.30, John Walker's record, and was

:43:42.:43:47.

whooping and hollering with delight. We were going to tell him we were

:43:48.:43:56.

joking! Down to 10th place in that raise either set a personal best or

:43:57.:44:00.

did something phenomenal. Great race. What we expect to see here.

:44:01.:44:05.

Everything from here now is just reiterating the importance of this

:44:06.:44:09.

track. Athletes taking a deadly serious. Call this one for me. Do

:44:10.:44:22.

you know what, Fraser'Pryce is coming back to form. She's been

:44:23.:44:26.

looking good, she's been coming back. She's had troubled times, but

:44:27.:44:32.

this again, this is a stacked event. Felix has come into this

:44:33.:44:37.

competition. She wants to get back to her glory days of 200 metre

:44:38.:44:42.

running. There are lots of different women here with different agendas,

:44:43.:44:46.

so how it plays out. You are cruel getting me to call it. But Ahoure,

:44:47.:44:53.

she's great too. It's a big race this.

:44:54.:44:55.

Let's go to commentary for the this.

:44:56.:45:03.

women's 100 metres then. Campbell'Brown got away. Look at

:45:04.:45:48.

Fraser'Pryce on the far side. Here comes Bowie through the middle. What

:45:49.:45:55.

a time! 10. 80. Wow! Tell you what, she's promised it and delivered

:45:56.:45:59.

several times this season. A personal best, 10. 91, before she

:46:00.:46:07.

came here, 10. 10.98. Another personal best. Magnificent. Very,

:46:08.:46:13.

very even right the way through to the last 30 or 40 metres. World

:46:14.:46:21.

leading time at 10. 80. And that was superb, absolutely superb, very

:46:22.:46:28.

easy, very even. Fraser'Pryce got a good start. Let's have a look at

:46:29.:46:33.

this. What a last 30 metres or so. Really have enjoyed watching her all

:46:34.:46:51.

season. The last 20, 30 metres, maintains her speed so much better

:46:52.:47:06.

than everybody else. Fraser'Pryce does very, very well.

:47:07.:47:13.

Look at that action. That is a beautiful action from Bowie. Relaxed

:47:14.:47:20.

and really maintaining so well through the last 25 metres. Just

:47:21.:47:26.

watch this. This is somebody who is in great form, racing better than

:47:27.:47:30.

ever in her life and is obviously thoroughly enjoying it. That is the

:47:31.:47:34.

sort of technique you've got when you're in control of the race, when

:47:35.:47:38.

you know you've got it. That was sheer poetry in motion. Absolutely

:47:39.:47:42.

superb. It really was. Great athlete. 10. 8

:47:43.:47:52.

just underlines that fact. Another race stacked with seasoned

:47:53.:48:01.

bests. So this week, the Toris have had a reshuffle and Tori Bowie is

:48:02.:48:09.

reshuffling the order. She is. She's mixing it up, reshuffling! Oh, yes!

:48:10.:48:15.

Her performances have grown with her experience. Now she's the world

:48:16.:48:22.

leader and 10. 8 seconds, phenomenal performance. The commentary boys hit

:48:23.:48:30.

it bang on the nail when they said she's flawless and evidentless. You

:48:31.:48:34.

see no stress or strain on her, nobody's getting close enough to

:48:35.:48:38.

give her the pressure. In Rome she ran 11. 05, looked so relaxed. She's

:48:39.:48:45.

where she wants to be now, fabulous style, a wonderful future one would

:48:46.:48:46.

think. Two years style, a wonderful future one would

:48:47.:48:52.

Games and you wouldn't put your money anywhere else at the moment

:48:53.:48:56.

would you? It's really kind of fragile in that sense, you know.

:48:57.:49:03.

Getting too keen. But there's something about her, she's an

:49:04.:49:07.

athlete you can't help her being fond of. She's lighting up the

:49:08.:49:12.

races. She's enjoying the running. That's what's clear. I guess for the

:49:13.:49:15.

American athletes as well. When you have a season off like this when you

:49:16.:49:20.

can just enjoy your athletes, it takes pressure off them and thaen

:49:21.:49:25.

they enjoy it, Formula One experience along the way, so one to

:49:26.:49:29.

look out for. We can catch up with a bit more field action now before we

:49:30.:49:33.

go back to the track, of the men's 200.

:49:34.:49:41.

This got under way a short while ago. Ratej just below 65 metres

:49:42.:49:49.

there. Ratej is one of those women, all 66s

:49:50.:49:55.

this year. There is a bit of a wind up top. Nothing at track level.

:49:56.:50:02.

There is a bit of a breeze which might help a little. It's got to

:50:03.:50:11.

come over the shoulder from behind. Breeze behind over the throwing arm.

:50:12.:50:22.

Dimitrik, 2.3 metres. Third and final attempt, so this is a very

:50:23.:50:26.

important jump for him. To stay in this competition, the Russian.

:50:27.:50:36.

He attacked that bar so fast and it stayed on. And that. Look at that,

:50:37.:50:48.

he clipped it with his heels but he's still in business. Third and

:50:49.:50:55.

final attempt, he succeeds. A little bit more to do. This is Spotakova,

:50:56.:51:05.

having seen the first effort of 64.84, good enough but not far off

:51:06.:51:16.

the world lead. Spotakova, unbaten so far and

:51:17.:51:31.

rounding into very good form and these conditions may help her a

:51:32.:51:33.

little bit. The Olympic champion, 66.96, a

:51:34.:51:42.

season best for her. Not quite the world lead but not far off, 30 odd

:51:43.:51:54.

centimetres behind. A Barshim supporter. Spotting herself on the

:51:55.:51:57.

big screen. And this is Ryzih. Cleared 4.55, a

:51:58.:52:14.

hiccup at 4. 40, so 4.65 the next target. Ryzih set a personal best in

:52:15.:52:24.

Germany just recently at 4.71 metres. Conditions are very, very

:52:25.:52:34.

good here. Dine nick plant. That's a very fine clearance, very pleased

:52:35.:52:39.

with it '' dynamic. Very nice approach. A positive piece. Plants

:52:40.:52:45.

it and gets back from the pole what she puts into it.

:52:46.:52:53.

Next event on the track is the women's 5,000 metres. Excellent

:52:54.:53:13.

field here. A few Americans who might be chasing the American record

:53:14.:53:23.

in Rasay, Conley. The woman who has had such a year at 1500 metres,

:53:24.:53:30.

Hassan. Cherono, the Diamond race leader.

:53:31.:54:02.

This promises to be a cracking race. Cherono will be hoping she can

:54:03.:54:17.

really take on this race. K ibiwot. Dibaba a little vulnerable. The two

:54:18.:54:28.

pace makers there. I think there's been a bit of

:54:29.:54:47.

kidology going on. Not sure whether Dibaba and some others are bothered

:54:48.:54:53.

about the pace. Come to Monaco for a fast race and they'll be hoping they

:54:54.:54:55.

go out reasonably well. Straight to the back of the field.

:54:56.:55:51.

like it when we get Hassan coming into a race like this, someone like

:55:52.:55:57.

her, to give Dibaba something to think about. If the pace is too

:55:58.:56:03.

slow, Hassan may well contest it at the European Championships, as well

:56:04.:56:15.

as the 1500. She has run under 15 minutes. Ayana's been having a good

:56:16.:56:25.

season. Dibaba knows her really well. Setting the pace.

:56:26.:56:35.

The group was around 69, 70 seconds and are nicely strung out.

:56:36.:56:44.

Interesting to see what Hassan does. Fifth in the World Indoor

:56:45.:56:47.

Championships over 3,000 and has been very, very good at 1500 metres.

:56:48.:56:53.

She won Paris in 3.57, so we know she's got that basic speed and we

:56:54.:56:59.

know she can run 1500. If her pace is slow, she could find it more

:57:00.:57:04.

difficult in the end, but I like Ayana, the Ethiopian. She runs with

:57:05.:57:11.

confidence, has a best of 4.37. If they are looking for the 14.37 pace,

:57:12.:57:20.

she is twoing to be in business. Huddle a little closer. Things are

:57:21.:57:24.

slowing a little. Now not too bad. Ayana leading the

:57:25.:57:48.

main field with Beleta, Dibaba, Cherono. Huddle further back.

:57:49.:57:59.

Nice, even base pace, they'll be hoping for. The pace drops off the

:58:00.:58:11.

three minutes per 1,000 metres. They'll be delighted with that.

:58:12.:58:17.

Let's watch as they come through. That's pretty good for most of the

:58:18.:58:20.

field. Yes, it is. I wonder if Dibaba can

:58:21.:58:25.

perform like she did on the indoor circuit with the three indoor world

:58:26.:58:31.

records. Said it several times, her first race was in Doha. She hassen

:58:32.:58:35.

shown the form that we expect of her yet.

:58:36.:58:40.

'' hasn't shown the form. Just about to complete their three laps. Still

:58:41.:58:49.

lapping in around 71, 72. Slower than they thought. It's helping the

:58:50.:58:54.

Americans in particular and one or two others looking for good times

:58:55.:59:04.

here. It's what they like. Protsenko here now. Second in Lausanne with

:59:05.:59:06.

the personal best of 240. competition and a half on our hands

:59:07.:59:26.

again tonight. It did not look at all like the previous two. It was a

:59:27.:59:35.

very fine execution. Just over three and a half laps completed. The

:59:36.:59:40.

pacemaker doing a good job. Running a fairly sensible pace. Molly Huddle

:59:41.:59:59.

of the United States is up there. We are back at 4.65. This is Fabiana

:00:00.:00:08.

Murer. She really goes for it. That is better. That is very much better.

:00:09.:00:18.

Second attempt at that height. Failed at the first attempt. That

:00:19.:00:23.

will cause a few problems on count back. In second plague '' place. The

:00:24.:00:38.

world champion in 2011. The former World Indoor Championship. A

:00:39.:00:43.

personal best of 4.85 seven San Fernando in 2010. '' set in.

:00:44.:00:55.

Vianna, the smaller of the Ethiopians, effectively leading the

:00:56.:00:56.

pack year. Somewhere they are going to have two

:00:57.:01:29.

place a bit of pressure on here and break this group by little bit.

:01:30.:01:36.

Dibaba's kick has not been as good as we always expected to be in some

:01:37.:01:48.

of these races. '' expect it. That was a quick lap. Linda Stahl in the

:01:49.:02:00.

javelin. Looking at a 60 metre line. She has been very disappointing so

:02:01.:02:16.

far. She didn't look too good there. Just over 60. You could tell from

:02:17.:02:21.

her body language when she released it, there was nothing there. Timing,

:02:22.:02:27.

it was all gone. It almost landed flat. She moves into third place but

:02:28.:02:45.

there is still a long way to go. Kynard in the high jump. We have

:02:46.:02:55.

seen him before. He is looking at 2.34 for the first time. He has got

:02:56.:02:59.

three clearances so far. No, he drifted right the way through

:03:00.:03:16.

the bar. The approach is not quite right. He lost a bit of confidence.

:03:17.:03:20.

That was a poor job, in fact. His first failure at that height.

:03:21.:03:34.

This is an important job. That is a good job. What about that? She

:03:35.:03:42.

proved her competitiveness in Glasgow recently with that personal

:03:43.:03:48.

best equalling jump there. That really is the sign of somebody who

:03:49.:03:53.

is developing in the event. There was nothing wrong in the confidence

:03:54.:04:00.

in that ball. '' vault. Very nice clear and indeed. '' clearance.

:04:01.:04:06.

Fourth place. Hassan looks very tired to me in

:04:07.:04:27.

that second group. You can see Molly Huddle and Sharon ropery.

:04:28.:04:38.

Ayana, Dibaba Cheruyiot... Still on good pace. It is better to build the

:04:39.:04:54.

pace. That is a smart thing to do. Keep the pressure on. Hassan, we

:04:55.:04:59.

thought she may cause a little bit of interest here and a little bit of

:05:00.:05:01.

worry, but she is of interest here and a little bit of

:05:02.:05:09.

specialists. Ayana really putting some pressure on Dibaba. I thought

:05:10.:05:19.

Dibaba looked a bit tired a couple of laps ago. Now Ayana moves out to

:05:20.:05:24.

let them through. This is the start list for the men's long jump.

:05:25.:05:40.

Christian Taylor, of course, is the triple jump Olympic champion in

:05:41.:05:43.

2012. He combines long jump and triple jump. He is just warming up

:05:44.:05:56.

at the moment. As is leagues injure '' Li Jinzhe of China. Menkov is the

:05:57.:06:04.

Russian. Sixth in Lausanne. A couple of World Championship

:06:05.:06:32.

silver medals for the Dutchman. It is a good line competitive. '' macro

:06:33.:06:43.

it is a good line'up. Very competitive.

:06:44.:06:55.

That will set the scene for the rest, I would think. Round about

:06:56.:07:03.

eight metres. He is pretty quick on the runway, this man. He moved to

:07:04.:07:08.

the Netherlands at the age of 18 in 2001. He competed with Sudan until

:07:09.:07:13.

2013 and 2001. He competed with Sudan until

:07:14.:07:18.

citizenship and moved on. Back to the 5000 metres, two laps to go.

:07:19.:07:23.

Ayana has tried to give the lead over a couple of times. Nobody is

:07:24.:07:39.

interested. The first three have five metres in the next athlete. The

:07:40.:07:47.

pace dropped a little and Ayana said, OK, you move it on. They

:07:48.:07:57.

didn't want to. 11.42 through three kilometres. We could be on for a

:07:58.:08:07.

14.30, thereabouts. Does Ayana have enough strength to run from the

:08:08.:08:10.

front? These three polling well away from the West. '' polling well away

:08:11.:08:25.

from the rest. 500 metres remaining. Genzebe Dibaba has not really been

:08:26.:08:35.

able to hit form outdoors so far. See is the world leader in the 5000

:08:36.:08:41.

metres. They take the bell. It is going to be a fairly quick last lap.

:08:42.:08:43.

We could see going to be a fairly quick last lap.

:08:44.:08:57.

Ayana leads. Dibaba in second. Ayana is stretching hard. You have got to

:08:58.:09:03.

give it to her. She has been leading for five laps. Dibaba still there.

:09:04.:09:14.

Ayana trying to master the speed. Dibaba is just talk in there.

:09:15.:09:19.

Doesn't run an inch further than she has two. She will move out only when

:09:20.:09:26.

she has to. We have seen her being in this position and not produce.

:09:27.:09:31.

Has she got something here tonight? Ayana still in front. Dibaba moves

:09:32.:09:38.

on stride for stride. It is not stunning from Dibaba but it may be

:09:39.:09:41.

just enough to take the win. She forges ahead in the last 15 metres.

:09:42.:09:49.

Dibaba gets the win. 14.34 was the winning time. That was hard, that

:09:50.:09:54.

was tough. Ayana with a very worthy second place. Molly Huddle crosses

:09:55.:10:02.

the line and will take the US record by a couple of seconds. We have to

:10:03.:10:06.

wait for the official time. She wins the American battle. Dibaba with

:10:07.:10:19.

14.28.88. Hard work. The real burst of speed we have got used to seeing

:10:20.:10:26.

from wasn't manifest. This was about strength and endurance. Dibaba has

:10:27.:10:31.

got both. Every quick last lap. One expected that. She is nowhere near

:10:32.:10:37.

the indoor form, despite that very quick time. This is the first race,

:10:38.:10:49.

incidentally, of the world league. It will stand as the meet record in

:10:50.:11:01.

years to come. She is hurting, absolutely hurting. Ayana mealy ''

:11:02.:11:06.

Willie made her work. She did a lot of the leading.

:11:07.:11:15.

The body language tells you everything. Ayana looks a bit more

:11:16.:11:20.

comfortable. But the race had gone by then. Dibaba with a very fine

:11:21.:11:27.

when indeed. We have two handed to her. '' we have to hand it to her. A

:11:28.:11:36.

fabulous performance by her and Diana. '' Ayana.

:11:37.:11:59.

Another fantastic field producing a world lead in the season's best.

:12:00.:12:08.

Here are the highlights so far this evening. No world record for Asbel

:12:09.:12:17.

Kiprop in the 1500 metres. He was beaten by Silas Kiplagat. It was a

:12:18.:12:23.

cracking race. Seven in the field dipped under three minutes and 30

:12:24.:12:29.

seconds. David Rudisha continues his journey back to top form. He

:12:30.:12:32.

produced a time under one minute .43 tonight. '' one minute and 43

:12:33.:12:39.

seconds. Amos was the winner in another high'quality field. And the

:12:40.:12:46.

fastest women in the world lined up in the 100 metres and the woman who

:12:47.:12:49.

is heading that at the moment is the USA's Tori Bowie. Another world

:12:50.:12:59.

lead. We have had some great field events. Right now behind us, the

:13:00.:13:06.

men's's high jump is hotting up. More of that in a moment. First, the

:13:07.:13:12.

men's discus. In third place, Gerd Kanter of

:13:13.:13:17.

Estonia, the Olympic champion in 2008 and world champion in 2007. His

:13:18.:13:27.

fifth round throw was in fact his best. He led the competition for a

:13:28.:13:34.

while. Season's best, incidentally. Kantor, former champion. In second

:13:35.:13:50.

place, the Cuban Hernandez. He has got the best of 66.50 of the season.

:13:51.:13:54.

That was good enough for second place. Malachowski, the poll '' the

:13:55.:14:09.

Polish thrower... He has 66 in the fifth round. According to my record,

:14:10.:14:15.

he is very quick. A solid citizen, technically very good. It was a very

:14:16.:14:22.

strong series ended. 65.84 was his best. That was in the third round.

:14:23.:14:43.

Next of it is the men's 110 metres hurdles. One of the biggest names in

:14:44.:14:52.

French track and field takes on two greats.

:14:53.:15:07.

He's tearing away here. Oh, my goodness. It's a new world record.

:15:08.:15:16.

Another person best. Finally gets his hands on a World

:15:17.:15:24.

Championship gold. Another incredibly strong field,

:15:25.:15:40.

Colin. We have the world record holder who hasn't even run in Europe

:15:41.:15:48.

yet. Lagarde record time. It's going to be a tough one to call but I'll

:15:49.:15:52.

ask you to do it though. Has to go to the Frenchman. Has to be the man,

:15:53.:16:01.

Lagarde, who's been the most consistent. Confident in his press

:16:02.:16:06.

conference yesterday. When you are in a real purple patch, as he's

:16:07.:16:12.

demonstrating now, it's easy to show that confidence. But he's possibly,

:16:13.:16:19.

or this is possibly the most talented field in Monaco. It's a

:16:20.:16:22.

talented race one.

:16:23.:16:29.

Let's join our commentators. Riley, eighth in the World

:16:30.:16:31.

Championships. Oliver didn't get away particularly

:16:32.:17:01.

well. Lagarde in the centre looks to be coming away nicely.

:17:02.:17:08.

Lagarde and Ortega. Watch the clock. 12.96! Wow. He's done it again!

:17:09.:17:16.

Taken his personal best from 13.05 to 12.96, that is magnificent

:17:17.:17:24.

hurdling, just short of when he was beaten in Paris when the lead was

:17:25.:17:29.

set there. That is a sensational piece of hurdling. Ortega too was

:17:30.:17:36.

going well. A very fine race. Ortega got there. 13.01 personal best

:17:37.:17:45.

Ortega. But this man becomes yet another sub 13110 metre hurdler.

:17:46.:17:52.

That is superb. Absolutely superb. The second French national record.

:17:53.:17:59.

It was a good race though. Oliver not a good start. All the action in

:18:00.:18:14.

the middle and Ortega gave him a great race. Look how powerful he is.

:18:15.:18:19.

Holds it really well. He's a tall man, got that kind of forward lean,

:18:20.:18:23.

but his hurdling technique is really good. He makes room for the hurdle

:18:24.:18:28.

as well. He pulls it through, gets down to the ground quick and that's

:18:29.:18:32.

what you have to do in the hurdle. It's the trail leg that brings the

:18:33.:18:35.

lead leg down and he's so good at it. Stuttering to the next hurdle.

:18:36.:18:39.

That's always a good sign, you have to make room and make your way to

:18:40.:18:43.

the next hurdle and sometimes they get there too quickly. Merritt

:18:44.:18:46.

thought that in his world record, he said it was almost dangerous.

:18:47.:18:54.

It's fantastic to see him set that French record. That was always in

:18:55.:19:02.

the back of his mind. He's wanted to two quickly. The advice I gave him

:19:03.:19:07.

was to be a winner. That is the most important thing.

:19:08.:19:22.

Beating the French record that once belonged to the former world

:19:23.:19:25.

champion. Real class. A real great performance by Pascal

:19:26.:19:40.

Lagarde. He enjoys it, he's in that purple

:19:41.:19:45.

patch and what a performance. That nails his diamond league as well.

:19:46.:19:52.

I don't think anybody can catch him, he's so dominant. Always brilliant.

:19:53.:19:58.

Do you understand what he said? Yes, he said it's all because of you. He

:19:59.:20:03.

said it in French, he may have said see you later in the bar Colin for a

:20:04.:20:07.

drink, but matching up to the quality field we are seeing here

:20:08.:20:11.

tonight, the conditions, the track, the atmosphere, it really is turning

:20:12.:20:16.

into one of the Diamond Leagues of the season? Yes, you are right. The

:20:17.:20:21.

athletes come here, they enjoy themselves because the conditions

:20:22.:20:25.

are virtually always perfect. You get quality line'ups, like we saw in

:20:26.:20:28.

the hurdles, quality line'ups in the 1500 metres and 80 Metres, you get

:20:29.:20:34.

the remarkable performances. For me, with Pascal there, I hope he didn't

:20:35.:20:37.

rest there, I think he can get a couple more sub 13 seconds under his

:20:38.:20:42.

belt. Zurich is an opportunity for him to be really good. So for me,

:20:43.:20:48.

it's taking a breath. Let's calm down and look at the women's pole

:20:49.:20:50.

vault. Oh, yes, what a competition she is

:20:51.:20:59.

having at the moment. Absolutely superb.

:21:00.:21:04.

That is something else. 480 her best this season. 485 is her

:21:05.:21:17.

personal best, r, so she's on her way. That looked good.

:21:18.:21:25.

So she heads the table in the pole fault, Murer.

:21:26.:21:36.

Chris Tomlinson in the long jump. He's had an injury after a solid

:21:37.:21:46.

8.24 which put him back in the world's best this year, 8.23, excuse

:21:47.:21:52.

me. That's a solid, decent effort early on. We saw 7. 99. This is the

:21:53.:22:00.

second run from Tomlinson. That is an improvement. Moving up

:22:01.:22:05.

the rankings. 7. 94. Just checking the board there.

:22:06.:22:33.

Confirmation of that, 7. 94, putting him in third place.

:22:34.:22:41.

Kimberley Mickle. Just over 60 metres thus far.

:22:42.:22:49.

Let us see what she does there. Oh, yes, that's better. That's certainly

:22:50.:22:54.

beyon the 60 metre line, as you can see for yourself.

:22:55.:23:00.

That looks around about 62 or 63. 62.94.

:23:01.:23:38.

There is the line'up for the women's 800 metres. Should be a good one

:23:39.:23:49.

too. The women's 800 metres up next on

:23:50.:23:55.

the track. Judd will be in the European Championships for Great

:23:56.:24:00.

Britain, her selection confirmed on Tuesday. She's up against a top

:24:01.:24:05.

class field. She deserves to be in there. In that field, there are very

:24:06.:24:12.

few women who have under two minutes. Really incredibly tight

:24:13.:24:22.

race. They'll be thinking, it's our time soon. They come on to the

:24:23.:24:28.

track, it's a busy crowded stadium. You get really inspire and

:24:29.:24:30.

motivated. The races have come from truly hot

:24:31.:24:56.

competitive racing. We may see that here today. Collette us see what

:24:57.:25:04.

Jessica Judd of Great Britain can do in this field. Of course, she's won

:25:05.:25:12.

medals at junior level at World Championships and is making that

:25:13.:25:15.

step on to the senior arena now. Let's catch up with Steve and

:25:16.:25:19.

Stuart. Sum has dominated this event this

:25:20.:25:33.

season so far. World champion la year. Looked confident in the way

:25:34.:25:38.

she performed on the track last season. We shall see how she goes

:25:39.:25:43.

here and whether she can maintain the form. There is the pace'maker.

:25:44.:25:58.

I think some might prefer 57 for the pace here. Yes.

:25:59.:26:25.

Sum has really gone with the pacemaker, she really has. Wilson is

:26:26.:26:34.

looking to lead that pack. They are all very much bunching down the back

:26:35.:26:38.

straight, Steve, and this is going to be a tough race indeed and all of

:26:39.:26:42.

a sudden the pace has gone up far too quickly and the rest have

:26:43.:26:58.

detached? Some must have said, go steady, maintain and give yourself

:26:59.:27:03.

something to work with. This is the pacemaker for the rest of the field.

:27:04.:27:07.

It's going to be quick through 400 metres. The rest are gathering on

:27:08.:27:11.

her shoulder. We have seen her so many times control it from the

:27:12.:27:18.

front. 58 and a half here. The others 59 seconds, one minute.

:27:19.:27:29.

Nanyondo is there, as they go down the back straight. Interesting to

:27:30.:27:34.

see whether Sum is attacked by Wilson early or whether Wilson

:27:35.:27:38.

waits. Wilson looks as though she's going to go at the moment as the

:27:39.:27:43.

pace will drop soon. On the inside, it's Nanyondo, who is really putting

:27:44.:27:48.

the pressure on, as Wilson chases Sum. Sum, Wilson, Beckwith in fourth

:27:49.:27:56.

position, of the United States, with 120 metres to go. This is going to

:27:57.:28:01.

be Wilson versus Sum as they come on to the straight. Wilson, the

:28:02.:28:10.

American champion. Sum and Wilson looks comfortable. Wilson wins it,

:28:11.:28:18.

Sum in second. Third place was Nanyondo of Uganda.

:28:19.:28:22.

It's another quick one. Last lap of 60.02.

:28:23.:28:26.

But Wilson impressed me in Glasgow. You saw the race too, Steve, and I

:28:27.:28:32.

thought she might be a threat, but Sum has dominated through the season

:28:33.:28:35.

and I guess she'll be a bit upset by that? Yes. She gets better and

:28:36.:28:41.

better, this young lady. She's come through the junior ranks. She's

:28:42.:28:47.

developing much better. Good race. She can run from the front. Today

:28:48.:28:52.

she put herself in a position to attack Sum. Sum will probably go

:28:53.:28:56.

away to her friend and say thanks for nothing really in the pace

:28:57.:29:00.

making but Wilson is strong, she was there to be shot at in Glasgow and

:29:01.:29:04.

held everybody off and today she's come through really strong. Look how

:29:05.:29:11.

relaxed she is there. I reckon she's run close to negative splits, not

:29:12.:29:17.

negative splits but close person laps. Strong on the second lap and

:29:18.:29:23.

Wilson's done that better than anybody and that's the first time

:29:24.:29:27.

we've seen Sum under pressure and get beat. Look at the face of

:29:28.:29:37.

Wilson. She won the American title. She was in Moscow last year. She has

:29:38.:29:46.

come on this season. Wonderful. Well she might smile because that was a

:29:47.:29:47.

comfortable run indeed. Another world-class field producing

:29:48.:30:15.

another world-class race. Jessica, come in here a little bit. The girls

:30:16.:30:19.

are trying to get their official times. You are shattered. That was

:30:20.:30:27.

tough? It was tough. I don't know what happened. I just died. I tried

:30:28.:30:37.

everything. I am really disappointed. Your time has been

:30:38.:30:43.

rounded down. It is another sob two minute run? Oh, that is good! Oh,

:30:44.:30:55.

right! OK! How was your race? I always raced to rain -- win, so that

:30:56.:31:13.

was pretty rubbish! I want to try to inspire as much as I can. You were

:31:14.:31:20.

doing that and at the same time it is now about racing. How you manage

:31:21.:31:24.

your races. That is only going to come with more experience of these

:31:25.:31:31.

kinds of fields? I hope so. I just feel pretty rubbish. But if I feel

:31:32.:31:35.

rubbish and still run under two, I am happy. Hopefully I will feel good

:31:36.:31:44.

in Glasgow. My aim is 1.58. Still some work to do. Go back to a G

:31:45.:31:55.

Wilson. You are both together in the juniors. I want to be her one-day!

:31:56.:32:01.

She beats me every time! I will go back and work harder. See how her

:32:02.:32:08.

mood can change! It is about managing those races and getting

:32:09.:32:11.

that experience. Let's get back out on the field and catch This is Derek

:32:12.:32:23.

Drouin in the high jump. 2.34 a while ago. A few struggling at this

:32:24.:32:29.

height. That is better! Very languid. When

:32:30.:32:47.

he is jumping really well it looks under control, doesn't attack too

:32:48.:32:51.

hard. Nice and steady. That is a good clearance. Yes, the commitment

:32:52.:32:57.

is total. He was relaxed on the approach. What can the Greek athlete

:32:58.:33:16.

do here? The final attempt at 4.56. No no no. She is gone. She is going

:33:17.:33:23.

to be in third place, eating -- equalling the national record. She

:33:24.:33:28.

has done well today. She got the 4.71 on her first attempt. Very well

:33:29.:33:39.

done. Protsenko, what a season he has had. He needs to go clear to

:33:40.:33:45.

stay in this. He is over! That is better. Protsenko... I remember

:33:46.:33:54.

seeing him earlier this year and he did not look this sort of jumper.

:33:55.:34:03.

You weren't exactly thinking he would develop into one of the finds

:34:04.:34:10.

of the season. But he has. You can just see their Justin Gatlin.

:34:11.:34:20.

Ashmeade of Jamaica beside him in lane eight. He is perhaps the

:34:21.:34:23.

outstanding runner heading into the Commonwealth Games. It is another

:34:24.:34:32.

strong field, Colin? This is a solid feel. Justin Gatlin questioned lane

:34:33.:34:46.

seven. He said he wanted to be on the outside lane because it gives

:34:47.:34:48.

them the opportunity to get under the home straight as quickly as he

:34:49.:34:51.

possibly can, so he can get into that long rangy running stance of

:34:52.:35:03.

his. Christophe Lemaitre will be looking at the European

:35:04.:35:05.

Championships. And Tyson Gay is back in here. The man who is returning.

:35:06.:35:13.

Controversial. This is going to be a tough old race. It could possibly be

:35:14.:35:32.

a world lead. Let's see if it lives up to Jackson's billing.

:35:33.:35:40.

The home crowd hoping that Christophe Lemaitre can give them

:35:41.:35:43.

something else to cheer on what has been a fantastic night for the

:35:44.:35:48.

French. Two national records. Christophe Lemaitre lit yet to go on

:35:49.:36:00.

the 22nd this season. Warren Weir, 19.82 in New York, the fastest in

:36:01.:36:05.

the world this year. Gatling is in lane seven. He is happy with that

:36:06.:36:10.

lane. He has Ashmeade to chase in lane eight. Good draw for those two.

:36:11.:36:16.

Tyson Gay, maybe a little bit more difficult in three. Lemaitre in six.

:36:17.:36:20.

The men's 200 metres. A lot of noise. They get away

:36:21.:36:34.

safely. Tyson Gay going incredibly fast around the tight -- top bend.

:36:35.:36:41.

Justin Gatlin running really wide on the bend. Gatling is going to win!

:36:42.:36:55.

19.68! Goodness me! Into a headwind? You are kidding me! He was

:36:56.:37:00.

struggling to control that all the way around the bend. They still runs

:37:01.:37:08.

19.68. That puts him in the top ten of all time at 200 metres. A world

:37:09.:37:14.

lead, of course. The strutting Justin Gatlin, another controversial

:37:15.:37:23.

figure. Somehow he is running faster than he has ever done before. 19.68.

:37:24.:37:30.

And Justin Gatlin, at the age of 32, has produced a remarkable 200 metres

:37:31.:37:36.

performance tonight. It was, wasn't it? He had a fabulous bend. His

:37:37.:37:44.

transition wasn't particularly good. It was solid. He was on the outside

:37:45.:37:50.

of his lane. He probably touched the lane body did not interfere with

:37:51.:37:58.

anybody. -- but he did not. Look how wide he is. He was struggling. He is

:37:59.:38:04.

really worried. He wants that line quick. Really quick. A fabulous run.

:38:05.:38:12.

Nothing pretty about it. Truly aggressive from a muscle man. He

:38:13.:38:21.

looks leaner than he ever used to. Maybe he should have been doing this

:38:22.:38:26.

sort of stuff along time ago. He was really trying to hold it off the

:38:27.:38:31.

bend. Down the home straight, look at that. It did not matter if you

:38:32.:38:35.

stepped over the line, he was not going to gain an advantage. He was

:38:36.:38:39.

almost imbalanced. He could have gone slightly quicker there.

:38:40.:38:49.

Justin Gatlin ran a sensational 100 metres earlier this year. The second

:38:50.:38:53.

fastest time of the year. I spoke to his coach earlier and he said that

:38:54.:39:03.

he was going to run a hell of a 1.70 and just hang on. That is exactly

:39:04.:39:08.

what he did. Out of the blocks hard. Came down the home straight. He

:39:09.:39:12.

staggered into the line. He was looking around with 30 metres

:39:13.:39:17.

remaining. Look at that time. In sensational world lead. Smashed his

:39:18.:39:24.

own personal best. He is looking leaner. He is looking obviously very

:39:25.:39:33.

strong as well. He must read out of his lane for most of it. If you can

:39:34.:39:37.

work on that bed and stay in his own lane, he could take it down further.

:39:38.:39:43.

Sensational year, sprinting wise. It would be a long lap of honour for

:39:44.:39:48.

him. He is out there and he has got his phone. He is taking selfies with

:39:49.:39:56.

his phone. I don't expect we will see him any time soon. What we would

:39:57.:40:05.

love to see here is that he was really unsure. He blasted out of the

:40:06.:40:09.

blocks and thought, I have just got to get out there. Let himself be the

:40:10.:40:14.

man to beat. He just kept going and going and going. Lots of the

:40:15.:40:20.

athletes beside him know what his legs are like. He has got the

:40:21.:40:25.

fastest 100 metres in the world. It was about hanging on when he knew

:40:26.:40:27.

people were going to be coming at him. The most skilled and confident

:40:28.:40:33.

200 metres runners. With his leg speed and his turnover he could

:40:34.:40:36.

demonstrate what he has done before and hang on in there. Incredible

:40:37.:40:43.

time. 19.68. He will be thinking to himself, well, when he goes to bed

:40:44.:40:50.

tonight. At 32, what is he doing to bring his time down? He is looking

:40:51.:40:56.

leaner. Has he changed his training? Is about the consistency of racing.

:40:57.:41:04.

You need to race and race and race. When you have done your winter work,

:41:05.:41:09.

go out and compete. You cannot replicate that in training. You need

:41:10.:41:13.

to get out there more and more. Otherwise you are never going to get

:41:14.:41:18.

there. Justin has been racing very sensibly this year as far as I am

:41:19.:41:23.

concerned and he has done -- he has got his just rewards. Let's go back

:41:24.:41:30.

out onto the field. got his just rewards. Let's go

:41:31.:41:35.

What an evening of athletics so far. Still a bit too come. Barbora

:41:36.:41:44.

Spotakova. Class javelin throwing so far. 64.84 in the first round. Then

:41:45.:41:53.

the big throw. Another 66.66 after the foul. Now she can really let go

:41:54.:41:59.

this time. See if the world record-holder. She is a 70 metres

:42:00.:42:11.

thrower. Look at that. Just over 65. She is pleased with it but she knows

:42:12.:42:18.

how close the timing is to go beyond that 66 and 67 metres. It is almost

:42:19.:42:23.

right. Not quite. That is a very successful day's work for a Barbora

:42:24.:42:33.

Spotakova of the Czech Republic. Few competitions. She started a family

:42:34.:42:38.

last year. Young Janet was born in the spring of last year.

:42:39.:42:54.

There are the points for the Diamond League. A great return for

:42:55.:43:17.

Spotakova. We have only got two field events still going on. The

:43:18.:43:21.

men's high jump. The long jump has been disappointing so far.

:43:22.:43:30.

Morales has been having an up and down year. He will be close. The

:43:31.:43:39.

Mexican. Right on the border. Pretty much perfect. Bronze medallist in

:43:40.:43:47.

Moscow last year when he had a massive season. 8.46 last season.

:43:48.:44:02.

Nowhere near that this year. 7.99. The 7.81 in the fourth-round puts

:44:03.:44:04.

him in the lead in the latter stages of the men's jump.

:44:05.:44:16.

Barshim in the high jump now. Heights that mere mortals would not

:44:17.:44:22.

attempt. 2.37. No failures so far. Oh, big, big clearance. That's 2.40

:44:23.:44:48.

jumping if ever I saw it. Look at this. He's way, way over. Such a

:44:49.:44:57.

confident young man. He seems to take off so much further away.

:44:58.:45:10.

It's almost resolved in the way he takes off. Roughly the same place,

:45:11.:45:14.

to be honest. Jager will be going for the American

:45:15.:45:38.

record. Second big race back after injury.

:45:39.:45:45.

Doing so well this year. It was the women's event here last

:45:46.:46:16.

weekend. There is Koech.

:46:17.:46:21.

A few injuries this year. I think he might just be ready to come back and

:46:22.:46:34.

challenge Kipruto, the 28-year-old. Birech and Kemboi know each other

:46:35.:46:36.

really well. Birech has asked for this quick

:46:37.:46:58.

pace, 82.37. Set in Oslo. Perfect conditions here tonight. We've seen

:46:59.:47:03.

so many - this has been another one of those fabulous nights many

:47:04.:47:13.

Monaco. Last event of the evening on the track, the men's 3,000 metre

:47:14.:47:18.

superchase. Two men on the outside given the task of going through at

:47:19.:47:31.

good pace. Lagat is just moving on the outside there. A very, very good

:47:32.:47:36.

pacemaker. These two could do a really good job. I think to get a

:47:37.:47:44.

fast time, we need them to be right up there.

:47:45.:47:59.

Jager, the American, got himself in the mix early on. I remember the

:48:00.:48:09.

race in 2011, we watched a race, 7. 53, 6 #4rks missed the world record

:48:10.:48:13.

by 100th of a second and really, that was a great run. I'm hoping we

:48:14.:48:18.

can get something near that. It would be rather nice if we could get

:48:19.:48:29.

sub eight here. It's almost as though the pacemaker wants to get on

:48:30.:48:31.

with this. This is the long jump, final round.

:48:32.:48:45.

Gaisah there. Still his best. He'll know that's

:48:46.:49:07.

not really far enough. Chore Long jump hasn't lived up to

:49:08.:49:11.

expectations, although the be fair, the men's long jump has been a

:49:12.:49:18.

little disappointing generally. Back to the race. They have been

:49:19.:49:21.

stretched out so early. You have got to be careful of that, that you are

:49:22.:49:24.

not going too hard too soon. Birech getting involved really

:49:25.:49:36.

early. Step back from that at the moment. Yes, Kynard attempting 2.

:49:37.:49:43.

#40rks so we are really at the business end now. Cleared 2. 34 on

:49:44.:49:50.

his third attempt. Past the 2.37, straight on to 2. 40. Three attempts

:49:51.:49:57.

at the previous height. So this is asking an awful lot from him.

:49:58.:50:05.

Nowhere near on that. That is his first failure at his new height.

:50:06.:50:18.

2.40. We are now within range of the 2.42, the best height achieved this

:50:19.:50:20.

year. There's the evidence. This is

:50:21.:50:37.

Morales. Sixth and final jump in this long jump competition. As Steve

:50:38.:50:43.

said, it's not really given us the sort of standard that we are used to

:50:44.:50:48.

in the event over the years. Christian Taylor incidentally has

:50:49.:51:10.

788. But Morales in that final jump goes

:51:11.:51:26.

to eight metres, leading at the moment.

:51:27.:51:31.

The competition hasn't really woken up in some of the events tonight. It

:51:32.:51:40.

has woken up here because Lagat did a good job. The pace wasn't kept

:51:41.:51:48.

going. It's all about this man, Birech and as soon as he realised

:51:49.:51:53.

Kimboi couldn't keep the pace going, he went out there on his own. Jage

:51:54.:52:02.

re is behind him. Lagat is shouting him on.

:52:03.:52:12.

Birech. Bondarenko in the high jump a couple of minutes ago.

:52:13.:52:27.

Attempting 2.40. Oh yes. Bondarenko jumps into the lead. He's got the

:52:28.:52:32.

clearance and it's a first-time clearance as well. The record of

:52:33.:52:38.

2.40. The previous height 2.37 was a beating record. It was extended by

:52:39.:52:42.

three centimetres, so there you've got it. Past at 2.37 and he's in the

:52:43.:52:48.

lead. 2.42 for the second kilometre, 590

:52:49.:53:00.

for two thousand. Birech is going to have to work really hard here. Two

:53:01.:53:04.

laps to go. Still within sight but he's going to have to pick something

:53:05.:53:09.

out. Got to find something really

:53:10.:53:18.

special. He did attack it, you can't say he didn't. He need some support.

:53:19.:53:25.

It's been a big race over the last one thousand metres. Somebody breaks

:53:26.:53:31.

away on the last lap or leaves it until the home straight but this is

:53:32.:53:35.

tough for Birech. A bit of work to do to get back to

:53:36.:53:43.

his form. He's had time out with injury. He's a good 30, 40 metres

:53:44.:53:50.

behind his team-mate. So Birech with just over 500 metres to go. Just

:53:51.:53:53.

starting to see the time slip a little bit. Can he pick it up? It's

:53:54.:53:58.

going to be difficult. I've seen him do this several time this is season.

:53:59.:54:01.

It really is tough and he's faded in the latter stages of the race. It

:54:02.:54:06.

looked in the mid part like he was very strong.

:54:07.:54:10.

Very close, no doubt about that. There is no doubt whatsoever, 6.58,

:54:11.:54:16.

59, so eight minutes is on, that's for sure.

:54:17.:54:23.

Lagat pointed at the clock and said, look, come on, 60 seconds, last lap.

:54:24.:54:30.

So can Birech do it? He's attacking much better now. He's got to be

:54:31.:54:35.

tired. Can he try and find a bit extra here? It will be a massive

:54:36.:54:41.

last lap if he can do so. Less than 400 metres, as Jage re has been

:54:42.:54:54.

passed. It's going to be oh, so close. - Jager. It looks as though

:54:55.:55:03.

it might be slipping away from him. One more barrier to go and he's not

:55:04.:55:08.

going to run inside eight minutes. Tries to pick it up after the last

:55:09.:55:12.

hurdle and Birech out there for so long on his own. It's going to be

:55:13.:55:18.

agonisingly close to his personal best. Just outside at 8.03.33.

:55:19.:55:32.

A season's best there for Kiprouto but not for Birech. It's been

:55:33.:55:48.

phenomenal. We have seen Bondarenko there clearing 2.40. We've only got

:55:49.:55:52.

a few seconds left and it's still coming thick and fast! The quality

:55:53.:55:57.

is so high, ten guys registered in the competition at 2.34 metres. That

:55:58.:56:00.

is the quality of this event. That is why we are going into the high

:56:01.:56:04.

jump and we have already got one over 1 2.40. It's a strong world

:56:05.:56:11.

class field. You can see the results on the BBC website. Highlight of the

:56:12.:56:21.

evening? Wow, it has to be the men's 110 metres, Lagarde. Mine is went to

:56:22.:56:27.

Tori Bowie and a strong men's 1500 metre race as well. Good one.

:56:28.:56:32.

Absolutely. It's been fantastic enjoying this with you Colin this

:56:33.:56:35.

evening. Another great diamond league here in Monaco. See you next

:56:36.:56:37.

time.

:56:38.:56:44.
