Hello and a very warm sunny welcome to the banks of the River Tyne for

:00:48.:00:53.

the start of the Great North weekend where over the next two days, the

:00:54.:00:57.

biggest names in world athletics are in town.

:00:58.:01:15.

It's an afternoon loaded with Olympic medallists and finalists

:01:16.:01:58.

finishing the season off in this fantastic city, athletics jamboree:

:01:59.:02:03.

Greg Rutherford will star in a long jump competition at the other side

:02:04.:02:08.

of the Tyne. The men's mile on the road takes place at 2. 35. Charlie

:02:09.:02:16.

grace, Tom Lancashire and Charlie Buochard feature in that.

:02:17.:02:22.

Laura Muir has broken the British record, that is at 3, that race.

:02:23.:02:33.

Jodie Williams goes in the 120 metres.

:02:34.:02:39.

Tiffany Porter, a finalist from Rio is in the hurdles at 3. 45. An

:02:40.:02:45.

interesting distance this, 800 specialist Lynsey Sharp takes on

:02:46.:02:53.

Onuora. David Rushida in the 500 metres, never raced on the road

:02:54.:02:57.

before, never raced in anything other than shakes and it's the

:02:58.:03:02.

junior run with the young UNs at 4. 10!

:03:03.:03:06.

It's the final event of the season for so many athletes. There is a

:03:07.:03:11.

feeling of demob in the hotel this morning. They can't wait to draw

:03:12.:03:13.

their seasons to a close and they'll want to do it on a high. Denise

:03:14.:03:18.

Lewis and Colin Jackson are alongside me. As athletes, they know

:03:19.:03:22.

what it's all about to get to the final event of the season. Must be a

:03:23.:03:26.

wonderful feel, Denise? It is. It's great relief and, what a place to do

:03:27.:03:31.

it! Such great energy and atmosphere in a place like this. There'll be

:03:32.:03:36.

some tired legs but mentally, that feeling of getting to the end of the

:03:37.:03:40.

season, you know, relatively unscathed, a lot of the athletes

:03:41.:03:43.

have had brilliant seasons and they just want to say thank you for the

:03:44.:03:47.

incredible support they've had and the atmosphere is always great here.

:03:48.:03:51.

It helps that the sun is out here, the athletes have been presented to

:03:52.:03:55.

the crowd, that is happening now, which is great to see. Last year we

:03:56.:03:59.

were under torrential rain, the scripts were blowing away, the

:04:00.:04:02.

weather was terrible, what a difference it makes. The crowds

:04:03.:04:06.

still came out last year. They are really knowledgeable in these parts

:04:07.:04:09.

and love their athletics. It's seven years this has been going on where

:04:10.:04:12.

people get up so close to the stars of the sport? It has history now and

:04:13.:04:18.

this event is special and unique. The only other place it happens is

:04:19.:04:23.

Manchester, so to come here and experience the athletes at close

:04:24.:04:26.

quarters, they love that. The athletes are relaxed here. Take them

:04:27.:04:31.

out of what they are used to, here they can enjoy themselves and really

:04:32.:04:34.

get close to the crowd and try something different. There is a

:04:35.:04:37.

couple of new events that we are looking forward to as well. Lynsey

:04:38.:04:43.

Sharp is behind us now and David Rushida is going to be going in one

:04:44.:04:49.

of those events. We'll find out more about that later. A hop, skip and

:04:50.:04:55.

jump over the Tyne, is where you will find the sand pit for the men's

:04:56.:04:59.

long jump. You will also find there a man who is about to throw his

:05:00.:05:08.

spikes in the air and hop on a pair of ballroom shoes, getting

:05:09.:05:09.

Rutherford is alongside you there, Phil Jones, keepingp with him with

:05:10.:05:18.

the cha-cha-cha? If only I could! Gabby, Colin and Denise, you have

:05:19.:05:22.

all done Strictly Come Dancing and this man is embarking on that

:05:23.:05:25.

journey. There is a matter of a long jump to take care of today though,

:05:26.:05:29.

so have you remembered how to do it? Just about. Couple of jumps to make

:05:30.:05:38.

sure on the runway last night! I completely forgot everything and

:05:39.:05:42.

changed to a jive step last time, but here we are, excited and the

:05:43.:05:46.

crowd is fantastic. Your dance partner is here watching you, the

:05:47.:05:49.

Strictly crew are here. How does it change your life to be involved in a

:05:50.:05:54.

show like that, a great show on TV? Very full-on. That's one thing we

:05:55.:05:57.

find, there's so much training and learning and everything else. I come

:05:58.:06:02.

hereth here and I haven't done it in four weeks be I'm at home, I'm used

:06:03.:06:06.

to doing this. Put me on a dance floor and trying to learn steps is

:06:07.:06:09.

different. The training is intense so I'm staying fit from that as

:06:10.:06:14.

well. Back to the day job today ultimately and seeing if I can have

:06:15.:06:17.

a good competition. Just round it off with a win would be nice, tick

:06:18.:06:21.

that box before you put on the dancing shoes. Absolutely. That's

:06:22.:06:25.

the thing for me, street athletics is a wonderful idea. Equally, I want

:06:26.:06:31.

to finish my season on a high. I clutched a partially torn muscle in

:06:32.:06:34.

my groin after the Olympic final, now I'm back wanting to rectify that

:06:35.:06:38.

and turn it into a first from the third last time. Enjoy today and

:06:39.:06:42.

also the experience on Strictly. Thank you very much, need it!

:06:43.:06:48.

He'll pop over for a chat at the end of the show and we can give him a

:06:49.:06:55.

few tips. It's not quite over yet. We have great success going on for

:06:56.:07:02.

Team GB in the paras. A few golds last night and in Brussels a lot of

:07:03.:07:07.

the athletes have hot-footed it over from Brussels for this meet. There

:07:08.:07:15.

was a new PB in the 200 metres. We've asked all our pundits and

:07:16.:07:19.

experts to rack their brains as to what they think are the most

:07:20.:07:21.

significant three moments of the season. There was a bit of fighting

:07:22.:07:24.

over who got which moments but Colin you are first, let's have a look at

:07:25.:07:29.

yours. Look, it's a new world record! One

:07:30.:07:35.

of the oldest marks in the book has gone and it's gone to Keni Harrison.

:07:36.:07:41.

Coming through now. He has speed. The gold medal that belongs to Omar

:07:42.:07:50.

McLeod! Thompson in front. She wants this. Thompson's gold! What a run

:07:51.:08:00.

from Elaine Thompson. Hurdles featuring a lot. Just a

:08:01.:08:06.

little bit! For obvious reasons. Keni, what she did in London was

:08:07.:08:09.

fantastic, taking a world record is phenomenal. A lot of people

:08:10.:08:16.

surprised thatthat are sneaked in, but he was a trail-blazer. Also he

:08:17.:08:22.

broke the ten-second mark for the 100 metres flat, no other sprinter's

:08:23.:08:28.

done that. The overall winner for me is Elaine Thompson. Incredible

:08:29.:08:32.

performance what she did. To do the double in the Olympic Games was

:08:33.:08:37.

phenomenal. She learnt from last time in Beijing where he got the

:08:38.:08:42.

silver, she refocussed heshes, got herself ready for a double and look

:08:43.:08:47.

at the margin of victory. We are talking about her beating very

:08:48.:08:51.

classy runners there, going around the 10. 7 mark again. When you have

:08:52.:08:55.

never done it before, won a major clubships, it's a huge amount of

:08:56.:09:00.

pressure, especially when your training partner is the defending

:09:01.:09:03.

champion. You can see what it means to her to take that. The 100 metres

:09:04.:09:09.

title, then the 200. Taking that mantle of sprinting greatness in

:09:10.:09:14.

Jamaica from the shells of Fraser-Price, Campbell-Brown before

:09:15.:09:17.

her, if she was in another era and there was no such thing as Usain

:09:18.:09:21.

Bolt, she would be an even bigger global star? Yes, but she's young

:09:22.:09:25.

enough to make a real impact and there is no reason why she cannot.

:09:26.:09:33.

She could get close to Flo-Jo's record. Big call. It is. She is

:09:34.:09:40.

impressive though. I didn't think she'd do that magical double but her

:09:41.:09:45.

technique is incredible. Let's watch how she performs. We'll see yours

:09:46.:09:49.

later Denise and our commentators as well. Hello to you, good afternoon

:09:50.:09:57.

to Paula Radcliffe, Steve Cram and Andrew Cotter.

:09:58.:10:00.

Good afternoon. A wonderful setting here. You can see the spectators

:10:01.:10:04.

sitting on the grassy banks beside the track. The banks of the Tyne.

:10:05.:10:09.

This is the line-up for the women's 100 metres. Four going in this

:10:10.:10:15.

track. It's wonderful, as the spectators gather on the athletes.

:10:16.:10:26.

It's Horn, Philip, Williams and Gabby was mentioning the athlete who

:10:27.:10:29.

is had trouble getting here from Brussels. Horn from South Africa was

:10:30.:10:34.

one of those, instead of a couple of flights to get to Brussels to

:10:35.:10:39.

Amsterdam and up to Newcastle, it was a train, then another up from

:10:40.:10:45.

London and Horn was warming up in the passageways of the train. Must

:10:46.:10:46.

have been a fearsome sight. Philip has a bronze to show from Rio

:10:47.:11:09.

in the 4 x 100. Pierre, the World Indoor Champion over 60 metres, 11.

:11:10.:11:16.

07 this season. She was as quick as 10. 85 back in 2013. There's Jodie

:11:17.:11:23.

Williams who'll run in the 150 metres later on, that's been brought

:11:24.:11:28.

forward to 7. 17. Williams goes here. She should fancy her chances

:11:29.:11:30.

more in the 150. Looking down from on high, on the

:11:31.:11:47.

Gateshead side of the Tyne, the first of the senior track events in

:11:48.:11:50.

the Great North CityGames. Ordinarily, you might fancy Horn to

:11:51.:12:02.

challenge here, but it hasn't been the ideal build-up for her. Horn,

:12:03.:12:07.

Philip, Pierre and Williams in the women's 100 metres.

:12:08.:12:16.

Cleanly away. Good start from Philip and Pierre. Pierre now moving away

:12:17.:12:25.

from the rest and Pierre and Horn coming back now. Horn powers to the

:12:26.:12:31.

line. Pierre alongside her, but what a run from Horn. Everyone should

:12:32.:12:36.

warm up on trains! Horn takes the victory. Didn't she finish well! Has

:12:37.:12:41.

that power and strength in the latter stages of the race. And

:12:42.:12:48.

Barbara Pierre was out so quickly, but then Horn just came roaring

:12:49.:12:55.

through to take the victory. 11. 20, a decent time as well from a

:12:56.:13:00.

makeshift track. Look at how she comes back, look at how far she has

:13:01.:13:05.

to come back. A good couple of paces behind Barbara Pierre. But Pierre

:13:06.:13:11.

was fading and Horn was storming through. In the end, a bit of

:13:12.:13:21.

distance between her and the rest. She doesn't quite have the same

:13:22.:13:29.

start that Pierre or Philip has, but once she gets going, able to take

:13:30.:13:36.

the win. Well done, first winner of the afternoon, a time of 11. 20.

:13:37.:13:42.

Pierre was out so quickly but she was in second place.

:13:43.:13:49.

Phil Jones is with the winner. Well done, tremendous performance.

:13:50.:13:55.

What is it like first of all Coombe peeing here with a crowd so close to

:13:56.:14:00.

you? Yes, it's really nice, people are near the track, making the race

:14:01.:14:04.

much easier for me as well. Is this the end of the season for you? Yes,

:14:05.:14:10.

definitely. Tell me what it's like, in an Olympic year, the pressure you

:14:11.:14:14.

feel just to make it to Rio? Yes, it's a lot of pressure, the

:14:15.:14:18.

Paralympics is different to other years, so it's increased pressure,

:14:19.:14:22.

but I was glad to make it there. You can enjoy this experience today?

:14:23.:14:26.

Definitely, I won't forget it. Congratulations on the win. Well

:14:27.:14:33.

done. Thank you so much. A good win for Carina Horn in the track event

:14:34.:14:37.

in the afternoon. A short while ago, it was the women's pole vault. Sandy

:14:38.:14:43.

Morris last night went five metres in Brussels. Only the second woman

:14:44.:14:47.

to do that. Wasn't expecting anything like that here, but this

:14:48.:14:53.

was the first attempt at four metres for Chloe who went clear.

:14:54.:15:07.

Henry went over at four meters. Anicka Newell, the Canadian, she has

:15:08.:15:18.

done 4.15 this season. Opening up at four meters. Not ideal conditions,

:15:19.:15:26.

bit of a breeze. She was clear at four metres. Initially the only two

:15:27.:15:40.

clear at four meters. Then Germany Regine Kramer when Claire at four

:15:41.:15:48.

meters, this was her second attempt at 4.15. She went Claire, by a

:15:49.:15:56.

distance. The only woman to go clear, with Bradshaw not entering

:15:57.:16:02.

the competition. Holly Bradshaw stepping in at 4.40 five. All the

:16:03.:16:15.

pressure on her final vault. -- 4.45. Huge groan from the crowd. A

:16:16.:16:24.

sheepish smile from Holly Bradshaw. Finishing fourth in the Olympics.

:16:25.:16:29.

Could not do it here. Holly Bradshaw, no mark. The wind would go

:16:30.:16:41.

through Regine Kramer. -- the win would go. Rather sheepish figure,

:16:42.:16:50.

Holly Bradshaw, capable of 4.70 this season. Nothing here. Regine Kramer

:16:51.:17:02.

taking the win with 4.1 five. -- 4.15.

:17:03.:17:09.

On the other side of the river, the Newcastle side. This is the long

:17:10.:17:19.

jump. Finnish sixth in the Olympic Games. Highest finish by Uruguayan

:17:20.:17:27.

athlete. Great crowd gathering around the pitch. Emiliano Lasa.

:17:28.:17:42.

Just over 7.5 metres. Distances always down in these competitions,

:17:43.:17:47.

as they would be only slightly more controlled environment, familiar

:17:48.:17:48.

surroundings. Emiliano Lasa, coming up at 7.60

:17:49.:17:55.

three. We have seen it, you can see it now.

:17:56.:18:21.

Greg Rutherford, we shall see later. A quick word on Carina Horn, I was

:18:22.:18:29.

thinking about the Olympic success, there seems like there is confidence

:18:30.:18:33.

growing in South African sprinting. South African athletics. Being led

:18:34.:18:40.

by those guys. There are pockets, just like Australia, speaking to

:18:41.:18:44.

some of the Australians coming over. Pockets of groups trying to get

:18:45.:18:48.

their training methods together. It takes good performances, like we saw

:18:49.:18:54.

from that athlete, pushing forward, encouraging other athletes to say,

:18:55.:19:00.

look, we can do this. We are going to head out for the longer distance

:19:01.:19:05.

of the men's mile. Steve Cram will call this one.

:19:06.:19:11.

On the Newcastle side, the guys are ready out there. Intriguing field.

:19:12.:19:19.

Some people out there who will look back on their experiences with

:19:20.:19:30.

pride. Particularly Andrew Butchart. They were not quite in the medals.

:19:31.:19:36.

Mo Farah kicking over the last few hundred metres. We will be looking

:19:37.:19:39.

forward to seeing him tomorrow. Bernard Lagat, 41 years of age,

:19:40.:19:47.

moving into the top six. Andrew Butchart finishing so quickly. For a

:19:48.:19:53.

little while, there were two disqualifications, and Bernard Lagat

:19:54.:19:58.

was the bronze medallist. The other two reinstated. Andrew Butchart,

:19:59.:20:04.

sixth in the Olympic Games. Dropping down a distance. Not quite as quick

:20:05.:20:16.

as Mo Farah, well he was quicker at his best.

:20:17.:20:39.

Unlike the season they will have enjoyed on the track, so many times

:20:40.:20:46.

they have pacemakers, this makes the road miles so interesting, you

:20:47.:20:49.

cannot predict what is going to happen. I was chatting to Bernard

:20:50.:20:55.

Lagat this morning, rumours he has run his last track race. I said,

:20:56.:21:03.

come on, you can come to London next year, and he laughed, and walked

:21:04.:21:08.

away. He is hedging his bets, why should he not? Still able to compete

:21:09.:21:13.

at the highest level, for as long as he feels capable. He is not

:21:14.:21:18.

committing to next year. He will see how he comes through the winter, how

:21:19.:21:27.

he feels next year. Relishing the chance to try different things.

:21:28.:21:32.

Don't think he has run to many road miles in his time. The other is

:21:33.:21:36.

happy to sit in and let the older guy dictate. He used to have a

:21:37.:21:44.

fearsome chick, no surprise he thinks at his age, he is not going

:21:45.:21:48.

to wait around. There are others who can finish quickly. They go through

:21:49.:21:57.

the first 400. Not that quick, needing, but not very fast. 65

:21:58.:22:04.

seconds through the first 400. It is a different mentality racing on the

:22:05.:22:08.

road. It is about committing, running the distance, rather than

:22:09.:22:13.

trying to gauge the pace. Big danger on the inside, Martin Lewandowski.

:22:14.:22:21.

If he goes slowly, they are handing the race to him and Michael Rimmer.

:22:22.:22:31.

A few of the luxury yachts, one of them might be Brendan's. Parked on

:22:32.:22:37.

the quayside. We have the junior race this morning, so many people

:22:38.:22:41.

going down to watch. Going under the Tyne Bridge. Little left-hander,

:22:42.:22:49.

onto the swing bridge. This is where they will start to think about

:22:50.:22:53.

getting into position. Once they cross the river, onto the Gateshead

:22:54.:22:59.

side, they will drop down. Then the big sprint starting. Still Bernard

:23:00.:23:03.

Lagat, leading. Jake Wightman, Tom Lancashire. Lewandowski in the

:23:04.:23:15.

sunglasses. Everybody is still there. Adam Clarke, done so much

:23:16.:23:18.

training with Mo Farah, in preparation for Rio. Injuring this.

:23:19.:23:25.

Good to see him get a personal best. Spent a lot of his summer

:23:26.:23:31.

sacrificing helping the likes of Mo Farah. In their mixing, that is

:23:32.:23:37.

great. A little bit unfair with the splits, 63 for the first 400, 61 for

:23:38.:23:43.

the second. Up the hill, then dropping down, kicking in. They gave

:23:44.:23:49.

with the incline. Tom Lancashire pushing on. They spread along the

:23:50.:23:53.

road. Lewandowski looking comfortable. Michael Rimmer a little

:23:54.:24:01.

further back. Andrew Butchart struggling 4-speed. Bernard Lagat

:24:02.:24:06.

dropping back through the field. It is about judging your effort now.

:24:07.:24:12.

Less than 400 metres. They will see the finishing track, about 150

:24:13.:24:16.

metres long. That will give them a bit of a site. A gap appearing. From

:24:17.:24:24.

the top six. Some elbows coming out. The cake really on. Lewandowski

:24:25.:24:28.

watching Jake Wightman move. Gregson is still there. Tom Lancashire is

:24:29.:24:34.

still there. Onto the track they come. They all have chances. Jake

:24:35.:24:40.

Wightman kicking away. Lewandowski coming. Ryan Gregson with Jake

:24:41.:24:45.

Wightman. Whiteman trying to hang on. Looking strong. Jake Wightman

:24:46.:24:52.

going to take the win. Lewandowski second for the second year in a row.

:24:53.:25:05.

Adam Clarke in this. -- in fifth. Small consolation for Jake Wightman,

:25:06.:25:09.

did not go to Rio, missing the qualification time. Massive

:25:10.:25:13.

disappointment. So many attempts to try and do that. Nice win to date.

:25:14.:25:19.

Good way to round off the season, it has been frustrating. Barely missing

:25:20.:25:25.

out on the qualifying time for Rio. He went to New York, finishing 16th

:25:26.:25:30.

in the road mile there. To turn it around, coming back, running so

:25:31.:25:35.

well, finishing so strongly. Taking the scout of Lewandowski. That will

:25:36.:25:40.

send him into winter training feeling good, looking forward to

:25:41.:25:44.

making the team next year for London, 2017. He has a good kick,

:25:45.:25:58.

Jake. For the effort he put into making the Olympic team, always

:25:59.:26:00.

difficult to keep your season going when you don't. He has finished

:26:01.:26:04.

well, that will give him pleasure and confidence heading into the end

:26:05.:26:14.

of season break. He's with Phil. Jake, Steve Cram talking about how

:26:15.:26:17.

difficult it is to keep it going after you have not made the Olympic

:26:18.:26:23.

team. He have shown you have, doing it in style. It has been a hard

:26:24.:26:28.

month, not many targets to aim for since the Europeans. With the road

:26:29.:26:35.

season, wanted to keep it going, fun part of the season. Have not lost to

:26:36.:26:40.

match fitness, to come and do that. A high-class field. What is it like,

:26:41.:26:45.

up against names like Lewandowski, Bernard Lagat, trying to mix it up

:26:46.:26:50.

with them. Always an honour. Someone like Bernard Lagat, to get a scout

:26:51.:26:55.

like that, I will take it. Whether it is on the road, still a scout.

:26:56.:27:00.

What is the difference between being on the track on the road, for you?

:27:01.:27:05.

To be honest, you can switch off round the track, we left hand bends.

:27:06.:27:10.

This one, weaving, up and down, keeping your wits about you. Paying

:27:11.:27:16.

more attention. You have won in style, congratulations, Jake. Thank

:27:17.:27:24.

you. Well done, indeed. Jake winning with about 55 seconds in his last

:27:25.:27:29.

100. -- last 400. This was Greg Rutherford's opening

:27:30.:27:49.

attempt in the long jump. Getting the support from the crowd, there

:27:50.:27:52.

were plenty there for him. On the far side of the river. Where the

:27:53.:28:01.

long jump is taking place. Greg Rutherford. Looking to be good on

:28:02.:28:18.

the board. Gets the white flag. The Uruguayan Emiliano Lasa, leading at

:28:19.:28:24.

the moment. That looks close to his distance. Did not look to be a

:28:25.:28:28.

full-length run-up. I think he has seen the distance.

:28:29.:28:37.

7.60 seven. Half Daniel Gardiner, Sheffield

:28:38.:29:05.

athlete. He has gone close to eight metres this season. 7.60 in his

:29:06.:29:16.

opening round. Fractionally down on that. The British champion, taking

:29:17.:29:28.

that title this year. I don't think that will improve on his 7.60.

:29:29.:29:35.

Getting some safety pins patched up. That is 7.37. No improvement.

:29:36.:29:52.

Denise, it's your turn, we have dipped into your year. Here is your

:29:53.:30:18.

moments of the Olympics. Catarina Johnson-Thompson, a new

:30:19.:30:23.

British record! Going further clear, Olympic gold. And the fastest 400

:30:24.:30:34.

metres of all-time for Wayde. Sophie hitch inhas saved her best for last

:30:35.:30:47.

-- Sophie Hitchin. Not surprised to see Sophie Hikchin

:30:48.:30:52.

there. She shared her joy with us in the studio. Talk us through that,

:30:53.:30:57.

how did you nick that off the team? I don't know! I was expecting Colin

:30:58.:31:02.

to have that, if I'm honest. To witness a world record live is a

:31:03.:31:08.

real treat and a pleasure. What a stunning race. Leading from gun to

:31:09.:31:14.

tape and the manner in which he set that world record was just

:31:15.:31:17.

absolutely stunning. We had Michael Johnson between us in the studio

:31:18.:31:21.

that night so it was really so dramatic. It was, wasn't it. Long

:31:22.:31:26.

live the King, he's dead and he was there watching the whole race,

:31:27.:31:33.

incredible. He took it well. Also for me, Catarina Johnson-Thompson,

:31:34.:31:37.

that high jump as a stand-alone performance was absolutely

:31:38.:31:43.

incredible. To jump 198 in a help tat Ron, the second event, she was

:31:44.:31:53.

in the moment and that was a two metre clearance. She would have won

:31:54.:31:58.

Olympic gold in the Olympic high jump. I know it's a different

:31:59.:32:01.

competition on a different day but puts into context the brilliance of

:32:02.:32:07.

that. The billians of the young lady and I'm hoping that performance will

:32:08.:32:10.

go on to make her have a great winter and come out stronger.

:32:11.:32:15.

Sophie's performance too is at the Vanguard of something that could be

:32:16.:32:19.

special. Athletes bubbling under the medals and she was one of them in

:32:20.:32:25.

Beijing and to see that progresscome into fruition is special. We hardly

:32:26.:32:30.

talk about women's throwing. For Sophie to come through in the way

:32:31.:32:35.

she did, the last throw for her to secure a bronze medal and set a

:32:36.:32:40.

national record in the process, I just think, mentally, physically,

:32:41.:32:44.

she's got it all. Stunning for the event. I just hope this will be a

:32:45.:32:50.

resurgence of long throwing. Vanguard setting the precedence

:32:51.:32:55.

there which is just stunning. Let's get back out here on the streets of

:32:56.:32:59.

Newcastle, actually it's the track behind me, because it's going to be

:33:00.:33:02.

the 100 metres coming up for men soon. Let's catch up with the field

:33:03.:33:07.

before that with Andrew Cotter. Field news to come in a moment, but

:33:08.:33:10.

ready to go on the track. Because of the travel problems

:33:11.:33:44.

Andrew mentioned earlier, the 100 metres has been moved forward.

:33:45.:33:48.

Another opportunity for Dasaolu to put a good performance in right at

:33:49.:34:01.

the end of the season. Gittens won a bronze. Just outside ten seconds

:34:02.:34:06.

this year. Dasaolu only ran a season's best in Zagreb last week,

:34:07.:34:14.

10. 10, it's been Joel Fearon who's been winning. Dasaolu could well be

:34:15.:34:22.

part of the GB bobsleigh team in the Winter Olympics in 2018. Ujah, very

:34:23.:34:27.

unlucky not to make the final in Rio. He'll be hoping for a good end

:34:28.:34:32.

to his season. No reason why they can't run quick here.

:34:33.:34:37.

Horn posted a swift 11. 20 and she was one of the ones who arrived so

:34:38.:34:45.

late. Jeremy Doddson, born in New York, runs for Samoa. Cleared by the

:34:46.:34:50.

IAAF to compete for them a couple of years ago.

:34:51.:34:54.

Ran in the heats of the 200 metres in Rio.

:34:55.:35:02.

It should be mentioned that we have the World Championships in London

:35:03.:35:08.

next summer, the qualification is already open for that. So all of the

:35:09.:35:14.

performances in the second half of this 2016 season may have some sort

:35:15.:35:20.

of bearing. James said he can't wait for this race to finish and party

:35:21.:35:24.

time to start, a lot of athletes are in that position, but they'll want

:35:25.:35:27.

to finish on a high, that's for sure. Gittens, Dasaolu, Ujah and

:35:28.:35:33.

Doddson. -- Dodson.

:35:34.:35:44.

CJ gets away. Dasaolu is also away well. Half a metre. It's going to be

:35:45.:35:49.

very, very close this on the line. Who is going to get it? I don't

:35:50.:35:54.

know! That was close! I'm not going to stick my neck out. Those two were

:35:55.:35:58.

both trying to stick their chests out and everything else. That was

:35:59.:36:04.

so, so close. Normally you can kind of tell and they're both looking.

:36:05.:36:09.

That was so close all of the way down. Not much to choose. At one

:36:10.:36:14.

point I thought CJ may have had a bit of an advantage, but Dasaolu

:36:15.:36:20.

then at this point it looks as though CJ is ahead before Dasaolu

:36:21.:36:24.

comes back at him. This is going to be really interesting. Let's see if

:36:25.:36:29.

we can get a clue here. No. That is so, so close.

:36:30.:36:34.

Well, it's coming up on my computer, you are seeing what I'm seeing,

:36:35.:36:41.

they're giving it - I'm going to wait because I've only got one name

:36:42.:36:45.

on there - so I'm going to wait and see what it says. 100th of a

:36:46.:36:51.

difference, it's gone to Dasaolu. Good start from the two of them.

:36:52.:36:54.

Really good, competitive race. That's what you want to see. We are

:36:55.:36:58.

still talking about the relay. Dasaolu lost out in Rio. So he gets

:36:59.:37:05.

the win here by the smallest of margins, just 100th of a second.

:37:06.:37:10.

I couldn't quite separate them. I'm not sure if they knew the

:37:11.:37:15.

difference, but let's see what they thought of it. They are both with

:37:16.:37:23.

Phil. The two guys alongside me.

:37:24.:37:29.

Team-mates on the relay today looked like friendly rivals, you edged it

:37:30.:37:33.

James. The crowd is amazing, we put on a show for them, got a fair

:37:34.:37:37.

start, neck and neck all the way and it was my lucky day. I managed to

:37:38.:37:42.

dip on the line. It was a fun race though. A great way to end the

:37:43.:37:47.

season. I saw you yesterday, you were talking about holidays coming

:37:48.:37:50.

up. How hard a season has it been with being Olympic year and how much

:37:51.:37:53.

have you looked forward to the break? The season started a while

:37:54.:37:59.

back, so to carry on going after the Olympic Games is hard but you have

:38:00.:38:04.

to carry on on home soil. What have you learnt from this year and the

:38:05.:38:08.

hole experience? I've learnt a lot about myself, narrowly missing out

:38:09.:38:11.

on the final, I know it's there and hopefully next year I can make the

:38:12.:38:16.

final. Big year next year, the World Championships in London, you want to

:38:17.:38:20.

be a part of that? Of course, I was fortunate to compete in 2012 so for

:38:21.:38:24.

me, being able to also compete in the World Championships will be

:38:25.:38:26.

amazing, it will give you a bit more drive and energy kind of going into

:38:27.:38:30.

winter to try and make the team again. Sprinting is tough in

:38:31.:38:34.

Britain. All the best with the winter, we wish you both well going

:38:35.:38:38.

forward, James and CJ, everyone. APPLAUSE.

:38:39.:38:41.

Thank you. Thank you, guys. Thank you. Winter feels a long, long time

:38:42.:38:45.

away with this glorious weather we are experiencing today on the banks

:38:46.:38:49.

of the Tyne but it has been a long season, an incredible season for

:38:50.:38:53.

many, and we have been asking our bun dis and experts to dip into the

:38:54.:38:57.

archives and tell us their top three moments. It's Paula Radcliffe's turn

:38:58.:39:06.

this time. Let's take a look. 355. 24, Laura Muir's smashed the

:39:07.:39:17.

British record. Liz McColgan's done herself proud. Fantastic

:39:18.:39:25.

performance, well done Jess Andrews. No other representatives of Rusaf,

:39:26.:39:31.

ie officials, support personnel, should take part in international

:39:32.:39:37.

competition or in the affairs of the IAAF. Paula is up in our commentary

:39:38.:39:44.

box. Paula, obviously the last of your choices there a little bit of a

:39:45.:39:48.

sobering moment, but an important moment for you that the IAAF

:39:49.:39:55.

ultimately stuck its neck out and committed itself to banning Russia

:39:56.:39:57.

as a whole country from the Olympic Games, leading to all kinds of

:39:58.:40:01.

debate and conversation? Yes. I think it was a really, really

:40:02.:40:05.

important step. I think the IAAF had to show that well, as the President

:40:06.:40:12.

said himself, nobody wanted to see any innocent athlete suffer, but

:40:13.:40:15.

they ultimately did. They had to look at the integrity and future of

:40:16.:40:19.

the sport. In contrast to the IOC who possibly chose to protect the

:40:20.:40:22.

brand and go down the political route, rather than standing up and

:40:23.:40:26.

protecting the clean athletes, the IAAF did that, and they are moving

:40:27.:40:34.

forward and it was important going further forward, it will break new

:40:35.:40:40.

ground for clean sport. You went for the whole of British middle distance

:40:41.:40:44.

running? It was the fact that for the first time in a long time we had

:40:45.:40:49.

full teams in the women's 5,000 and 10,000 metres, men's marathon,

:40:50.:40:52.

almost full on the women's marathon, 1500 metres both and the 3,000

:40:53.:40:56.

metres steeplechase as well. It was the biggest team in a long time. A

:40:57.:41:02.

lot of that is showing the new talent coming through, the exciting

:41:03.:41:04.

talent and the depth of it. Thank you very much, Paula.

:41:05.:41:08.

One of the athletes who had a fantastic season was Laura Muir who

:41:09.:41:13.

broke her British record, her own record, then had broken it from

:41:14.:41:15.

Kelly Holmes before the Olympic Games. But in spite of being a world

:41:16.:41:22.

leader before, she didn't make it on to the rast rum in Rio. -- rostrum.

:41:23.:41:29.

I wonder what her thoughts about Rio were, Phil Jones caught up with her

:41:30.:41:34.

yesterday. What a season it's been. Congratulations on the latest

:41:35.:41:37.

British record which was a staggering achievement. Thank you.

:41:38.:41:40.

In a year of many. Can you quite believe how far you've come this

:41:41.:41:48.

year Not really, no. I knew from breaking four minutes last year that

:41:49.:41:52.

I would be there or thereabouts this year to run 355 - that's fast! So

:41:53.:41:57.

no, I was over the moon, so, so shocked when I did that. It was

:41:58.:42:01.

straight off the plane for me as well, so it was perfect to go out

:42:02.:42:05.

there and show what I could do again. To finish off the season in

:42:06.:42:09.

style was great. The only time I've seen you upset was after the Olympic

:42:10.:42:12.

final when you were understandably emotional. Have you had chance to

:42:13.:42:16.

think about the overall picture of the year now? Yes. I think I'm very,

:42:17.:42:20.

very proud of how I've done this year. I just went for it. That's all

:42:21.:42:26.

I can really say. I could have been a bit more reserved and come through

:42:27.:42:31.

for a bronze or maybe a silver, but I knew gold would have been gone so

:42:32.:42:36.

I thought, we are going for it and it didn't work. But I ran the race

:42:37.:42:41.

how I wanted to and wouldn't change it if I was given another

:42:42.:42:43.

opportunity. I just went for it and it didn't happen on the day, but

:42:44.:42:48.

hopefully I may be able to come close. You are one of the elite

:42:49.:42:55.

athletes in the world, something you two years ago were aspiring to be,

:42:56.:42:59.

now you are that, I just wonder what it's like for you? It's really

:43:00.:43:03.

strange because I don't really see it like that, I just sort of, when I

:43:04.:43:08.

line up to race the girls, we are all the same, I just recognise

:43:09.:43:12.

myself as being one of them but you don't realise that you are the best

:43:13.:43:16.

so I see it as a normal race, as it were. It's really, really strange. I

:43:17.:43:23.

just love what I do and I'm so fortunate that I'm aware of that in

:43:24.:43:27.

my running and I keep doing it because I enjoy it.

:43:28.:43:32.

An incredible season for Laura Muir, but Steve Cram's in the commentary

:43:33.:43:37.

box alongside Paula. She said she has no regrets in how she attacked

:43:38.:43:42.

that race he Rio, but the history books will tell us she broke

:43:43.:43:47.

records, the season when you are a world leader to push yourself. Do

:43:48.:43:51.

you think perhaps in time she'll look back at that race and learn

:43:52.:43:56.

from it and try next time to perhaps approach a final like that in a

:43:57.:44:01.

different way? Yes, two or three things in that, Gabby. I sat on the

:44:02.:44:08.

plane next to Laura flying out to the Zurich Diamond League and she

:44:09.:44:12.

shouldn't have any regrets, she gave everything out on the track and sort

:44:13.:44:15.

of knew what was going to happen and chose a way to attack that and, you

:44:16.:44:19.

are right, the important thing is to learn from that. The world leading

:44:20.:44:25.

time is a bit of a red herring. Being the fastest runner going into

:44:26.:44:29.

the employs at 1500 doesn't always mean a lot but it gave her the

:44:30.:44:33.

confidence to go for a gold. There are different ways of doing that.

:44:34.:44:36.

She chose one way, nothing wrong with that. It didn't work out. She

:44:37.:44:40.

will learn from it. And in future, she'll have more options. That's the

:44:41.:44:46.

key for her. She's a bright, intelligence, hugely talented

:44:47.:44:48.

athlete, and I think she will learn from it and hopefully in London next

:44:49.:44:53.

year. We talked a lot, Paula, at the Olympic Games, about middle distance

:44:54.:44:56.

running where a lot of the athletes were racing with pace makers and

:44:57.:45:00.

when it comes to a major and they don't have the pacemaker, it's learn

:45:01.:45:06.

howing to navigate a race and that comes with experience? It does. The

:45:07.:45:10.

1500 metres is the hardest to learn and to bring all that together.

:45:11.:45:14.

Laura is a complete 1500 metre runner and that race became a 700

:45:15.:45:18.

metre race and that was the danger and the difficulty. She needed

:45:19.:45:22.

somebody to get the pace moving at some sort of decent pace to 800

:45:23.:45:27.

metres then she could push on hard from there. Running a 57-second 400

:45:28.:45:33.

metres, she did that from 700 metres, to 300 metres to go, she

:45:34.:45:36.

wasn't strong enough, mature enough to be able to handle that and then

:45:37.:45:40.

still close well. So that was what was so difficult, when she ran her

:45:41.:45:46.

355, she ran it even paced and was still able to run hard the last 800

:45:47.:45:52.

metres but offer a much quicker 700 metres which was the difference.

:45:53.:46:06.

Steve Cram will talk you through the runners and riders.

:46:07.:46:13.

Certainly the runners, but I know what you mean. Zoe Buckman having a

:46:14.:46:22.

very good year for Australia. Plenty of English interest. Stephanie

:46:23.:46:33.

Twell. A Eilish McColgan, hotfooting it from Brussels. Running a personal

:46:34.:46:40.

best in the 5000 metres. She may be a little bit late query. -- leg

:46:41.:46:53.

weary. We have been through many of the most contenders. Rosie Clarke,

:46:54.:46:56.

moving up to the steeplechase this year. Laura Muir right in the

:46:57.:47:02.

middle. The one everyone will be watching out for. A busy time since

:47:03.:47:09.

Rio. Winning the diamond league. In Zurich. The performance in Paris.

:47:10.:47:15.

Jumping on the plane, going to New York, running the fifth Ave mile,

:47:16.:47:23.

just pipped to the post by Jenny Simpson. She did some shopping while

:47:24.:47:27.

she was there. I think she did the whole site cease -- sightseeing

:47:28.:47:36.

experience, going to the line king. Getting experience over the road

:47:37.:47:46.

mile. It may suit her, she runs very well on cross-country, this is

:47:47.:47:49.

closer to that sort of mindset. Being able to visualise the road

:47:50.:47:53.

structure ahead of you. Gauging it perfectly. That is tough in the

:47:54.:47:59.

closing stages of a road mile, you don't come off the final bend,

:48:00.:48:04.

knowing you have 100 metres. You have to have the face and judgment

:48:05.:48:07.

in your own fitness to time it perfectly. Not chasing any records

:48:08.:48:15.

to date. All spread out. Katie Mackey, from the USA. Zoe Buckman.

:48:16.:48:23.

Genevieve Lacaze, with the blonde hair. Great season. New personal

:48:24.:48:30.

best in the steeplechase. Also 5000 metres. A Eilish McColgan, just a

:48:31.:48:37.

little bit off it. Rosie Clarke at the back. Going through 400 metres

:48:38.:48:46.

in a pretty pedestrian 76. If the final in Rio was an 800 metre race,

:48:47.:48:50.

this is in danger of being something similar. This is usually where

:48:51.:48:56.

things start to heat up. Taking time to settle into the race. Laura Muir

:48:57.:49:01.

controlling it. This is what she could have done in Rio, getting to

:49:02.:49:05.

the front, getting it ticking over at a reasonable place. -- pace. Some

:49:06.:49:13.

of the lap times different to what they would be on the track. It has

:49:14.:49:20.

picked up a little bit. A gradual wind up will suit Laura Muir. Also

:49:21.:49:26.

Laura Wightman. And Genevieve Lacaze. A leash McColgan will be

:49:27.:49:35.

tired after a personal best. She does not have twice a day training.

:49:36.:49:40.

She has been backing it up with crosstraining. That means at the end

:49:41.:49:43.

of the season you are running on tired legs. Laura Muir trying to

:49:44.:49:48.

wind it up. Laura Wightman trying to go with her. Katie Mackey rocking

:49:49.:49:56.

and rolling. About 550 metres to go. A little rise. You can see how they

:49:57.:50:03.

slow. Bending into the steep bank. Then they dropped down. Two Lauras.

:50:04.:50:08.

Still a long way to go. Laura Muir doing what she's doing all season.

:50:09.:50:14.

Stamping her authority on this. Laura Wightman trying to give chase.

:50:15.:50:19.

There are others trying to improve their position further back. A leash

:50:20.:50:26.

McColgan looking tired. Laura Muir still saving a little bit. Katie

:50:27.:50:31.

Mackey in third place, trying to stalk Laura Wightman, trying to

:50:32.:50:35.

fight. Able to see the track at this point. 250 metres left, what a year

:50:36.:50:43.

has been for her. Look at a leash McColgan coming back into it. Laura

:50:44.:50:53.

Muir, ten metre lead. A leash McColgan continuing to make

:50:54.:50:58.

progress, with 150 to go. Laura Muir, comfortable lead. Alison

:50:59.:51:02.

Leonard starting to try and run her down. Laura Muir, lasting this one

:51:03.:51:10.

out. Alison Leonard closing the gap. Not enough time to catch Laura Muir.

:51:11.:51:15.

Looking a little bit tired, so she should be. She will hold off Alison

:51:16.:51:21.

Leonard. Laura Muir, Alison Leonard, then Katie Mackey, then Laura

:51:22.:51:29.

Wightman, then McColgan. She won it in the middle of the race, attacking

:51:30.:51:34.

hard from the swing bridge. A big effort. A bit of pressure from

:51:35.:51:39.

Alison Leonard in the last 150, looking tired. You can allow her

:51:40.:51:46.

that. She has enough space to hold on for the win. Undoubtedly, you can

:51:47.:51:52.

say this is a tough one. Contrasting the times. She rarely 4.18 in New

:51:53.:52:08.

York. This is a tough race, a lot of inclines, lots of twists. She judge

:52:09.:52:15.

that one well, the battle was for the places behind her. A leash

:52:16.:52:23.

McColgan was closing quickly. She finished extremely fast. A prime

:52:24.:52:29.

example of judging it well. The others committed a bit too much in

:52:30.:52:30.

the incline coming up to 500 metres. She has had plenty to celebrate this

:52:31.:52:44.

year. One more win to celebrate, with Phil. Steve Cram saying you

:52:45.:52:51.

have had a lot to celebrate. A nice way to end it. To finish my season

:52:52.:52:58.

on home soil, great, great atmosphere. Tell me about the year,

:52:59.:53:08.

you have had some great records, the Olympic final not going to plan. How

:53:09.:53:14.

would you sum it up? I am over the moon. Little glitch in the Olympics,

:53:15.:53:18.

apart from that, really good. I have to be happy with how the season has

:53:19.:53:23.

gone. Tell everyone what you will be doing come Monday? Busy, busy.

:53:24.:53:29.

Giving to a vet and their replacement. From athletics to that.

:53:30.:53:31.

-- going to make that in all the while, the men's Long jump

:53:32.:53:51.

taking place. This is the third attempt from Greg

:53:52.:53:57.

Rutherford. His first positions established in the first round.

:53:58.:54:07.

Rutherford getting the white flag. I don't think that will improve on the

:54:08.:54:14.

first round. Pretty solid, on the board.

:54:15.:54:22.

Not enormous distances. That is Natalie Loic Remy his dancing

:54:23.:54:31.

partner. She was a schoolgirl sprinting champion in Australia.

:54:32.:54:35.

Waiting for him to finish this athletics nonsense, then they can go

:54:36.:54:39.

and practice ahead of the other thing. 7.60, still the mark from the

:54:40.:54:49.

first round leading. Laura Muir's winning time. She will

:54:50.:55:05.

be heading off to the Darlington Job Trust. Anything wrong with your dog

:55:06.:55:08.

around there, she will be there. Tomorrow, incredible 57,000 people

:55:09.:55:22.

running the 13 miles from Newcastle to South Shields, for the great

:55:23.:55:28.

North run, the world's favourite road race. 137 nations. I am

:55:29.:55:37.

British, I live in Switzerland. It is a beautiful day to be out

:55:38.:56:04.

retracing the footsteps of Rocky Balboa.

:56:05.:56:14.

This is going to be so awesome. Geordie land, the great North run,

:56:15.:56:31.

here we come. See you in Newcastle. I realise there are more than 178

:56:32.:56:37.

nations, there are just over 200. Pretty good going to have so many

:56:38.:56:41.

represented. Always a magnificent race. There are some magnificent

:56:42.:56:55.

elite runners. Particularly in the women's race. We have Tirunesh

:56:56.:57:05.

Dibaba. Gemma Steel could get there. We're watching the Olympic final.

:57:06.:57:12.

Judging the 5000 metres to perfection. She was not going to be

:57:13.:57:22.

able to go with that. When she realised she was starting to gain

:57:23.:57:27.

ground, moving strongly past her. Getting that Olympic gold, meant so

:57:28.:57:31.

much to her. Coming back from breaking the old world record.

:57:32.:57:44.

Rounding off a season, coming here, making her debut over the half

:57:45.:57:49.

marathon distance. The furthest she has run, ten miles. Not that much

:57:50.:57:54.

further to go. She definitely has huge potential, interesting to see

:57:55.:58:02.

how she does. How do you think it will go? I think it will be ahead

:58:03.:58:08.

head. Expecting a few others to get in there, dictate in the race. If it

:58:09.:58:15.

comes down to the closing stages, certainly going to come down to

:58:16.:58:23.

them. Having said that, I think Vivian is in shape to cope with

:58:24.:58:28.

that. We will talk about Mo Farah, running in the men's race. Let's

:58:29.:58:38.

guide you to your viewing. We kicked off at 9:30am tomorrow. So many

:58:39.:58:41.

amazing stories. Great action to come this afternoon.

:58:42.:59:03.

It is the fast women coming up in the 150, then the men. The women's

:59:04.:59:08.

500 metres going off later. In the 110 meter hurdles, Tiffany

:59:09.:59:30.

Porter, Great Britain's Olympic finalist in Rio. Phil Jones caught

:59:31.:59:34.

up with her yesterday. She is right alongside me. I know you are a great

:59:35.:59:40.

fan of these events. What do you enjoy most? The excitement, the

:59:41.:59:46.

energy from the crowd, helping to encourage athletes to do their best.

:59:47.:59:51.

I love ending my season here. This is the end of your season. In the

:59:52.:59:56.

past one more race, to date is the last one. I will go out there, do my

:59:57.:00:02.

very best, excited to race. Do you get into reflective mode

:00:03.:00:05.

straightaway after the season is over? Absolutely, especially once I

:00:06.:00:12.

crossed the line for my last race, reflecting, to see how the season

:00:13.:00:16.

was over role. Cannot wait to do that until after my last race. We

:00:17.:00:20.

will speak to you later on, thanks for waiting to talk to us before the

:00:21.:00:22.

race. Thank you, guys. So relaxed, these athletes. Speaking

:00:23.:00:34.

to fill come alive. So often they get a mental zone, getting into

:00:35.:00:40.

competition. There is a very relaxed vibe here today. Next up on the

:00:41.:00:46.

track, the women's 150 metres. Steve Cram commentating.

:00:47.:00:52.

Thanks, Gabby, we are all relaxed here as well. Hastings, Henry,

:00:53.:01:02.

Williams and Adeoye to contest this 150 metre race and a good mix of

:01:03.:01:10.

sprints and long and short sprint talent. Adeoye went to Rio but had

:01:11.:01:19.

niggling problems and didn't run as quickly as she would have liked.

:01:20.:01:25.

She's OK now. 400 is her better distance, as it is for Hastings. She

:01:26.:01:30.

ran last night in Brussels. Guess who won the 400 metres in the

:01:31.:01:36.

Diamond League last night, icals that Semenya. She beat Hastings. Henry

:01:37.:01:43.

will be the favourite here I think. She is in lane three, had a great

:01:44.:01:49.

year and is maturing quickly, the 21-year-old. Integral part of the 4

:01:50.:01:52.

x 100 team. Jodie Williams is ready for this,

:01:53.:02:08.

maybe warmed up after the race earlier on. Lots of changes for

:02:09.:02:13.

Jodie in terms of her regime and she's hoping that will continue

:02:14.:02:18.

through to next year and produce the sort of time she was running back in

:02:19.:02:20.

2014. Tough these days in women's

:02:21.:02:29.

sprinting and I mean that in a very positive way, competition for places

:02:30.:02:42.

in the relay Thame et cetera. Henry, Hastings, Williams and Adeoye.

:02:43.:02:59.

Jodie just a little nervous there. We don't really like to see false

:03:00.:03:08.

starts in such events like this. Let's see whether or not the starter

:03:09.:03:10.

will be generous. Jodie definitely was a little shaky.

:03:11.:03:35.

I'd be surprised - a little conversation going on there - I

:03:36.:03:40.

would be surprised if there is anything other than a yellow. A

:03:41.:03:46.

green, even better, nobody's been naughty at all. Green card. Just

:03:47.:03:57.

going back to the time that Anoura set in Manchester. She was running

:03:58.:04:01.

probably more 200s before she'd made the big move to 400 metres. Of

:04:02.:04:05.

course, again, part of the relay team that didn't make the individual

:04:06.:04:11.

event, she was. When you look down the list, it's sprinkled with 400

:04:12.:04:16.

metre talent. Emily Freeman's done 200, 400, Christine Ohuruogu, of

:04:17.:04:19.

course, in terms of the quickest times ever run by British athletes.

:04:20.:04:25.

The 100 metres need to step up. Jodie is the third fastest ever.

:04:26.:04:29.

Actually second fastest on a straight. So here we go again.

:04:30.:04:49.

Safely away this time. Jodie gets a good start. Henry the wrong side of

:04:50.:04:58.

Natasha. Look at Hastings doing well to hang on. Henry is going to win

:04:59.:05:05.

this one. Just look at the clock. 16. 16. 57, and if that's confirmed,

:05:06.:05:10.

that will be the quickest time ever by a British athlete. The win looks

:05:11.:05:13.

good there. And December reel Henry, she

:05:14.:05:23.

probably won't realise it at this point, but that could be a European

:05:24.:05:28.

best -- Desiree. Probably a little tired towards the end, but

:05:29.:05:32.

continuing in the great form we have seen from her.

:05:33.:05:37.

It was interesting watching Natasha, she goes quickly in the 400 metres,

:05:38.:05:42.

but in the middle of the race, tenry turned it on. Hastings waslike

:05:43.:05:47.

coming back here in the latter stages of the 150 metres. Henry

:05:48.:05:54.

leaning for the line and taking that as a UK record. Top of the UK

:05:55.:05:57.

all-time list. Good run. A big crowd down on the quayside

:05:58.:06:06.

here. This is the Gateshead side. They had a great race to watch

:06:07.:06:10.

there. Very good performance. A new national record, personal best from

:06:11.:06:15.

Natasha Hastings and Jodie Williams as well. But the winner, 16. 57

:06:16.:06:22.

seconds, great run from Desiree Henry who is with Phil.

:06:23.:06:30.

One happy person alongside me, Desiree, congratulations, a national

:06:31.:06:32.

record, your first as an individual, one in the relay as well, you are

:06:33.:06:36.

collecting them? Oh, my goodness, I never thought I would get a national

:06:37.:06:40.

record in the 150. Straight line and it seemed extremely far but I'm

:06:41.:06:44.

extremely happy, just walking around and doing my practise starts, the

:06:45.:06:48.

fans have cheered me on, so that was a nice experience, the crowd spurred

:06:49.:06:52.

me on to really run well and I did so thank you, share this national

:06:53.:06:54.

record with me! APPLAUSE.

:06:55.:06:57.

We should say thank you as well for the entertainment this year. The

:06:58.:07:00.

medal you and the other three women brought on for us in the 4 x 100 was

:07:01.:07:06.

one of the highlights from a GB perspective. How's it been for you

:07:07.:07:11.

since you got home? Amazing, I'm back in England in October so it's

:07:12.:07:17.

literally the British fans who've been cheering me on through the

:07:18.:07:22.

year. To come up with a medal, it makes it that more special. I want

:07:23.:07:26.

to give it back to the fans because everyone's been amazing. You are

:07:27.:07:30.

quite emotional, I know, it's been quite a year for you.

:07:31.:07:33.

Congratulations on a national record for you. Let's hear it for Desiree

:07:34.:07:37.

Henry, everyone. APPLAUSE.

:07:38.:07:39.

Thank you, guys, thank you for coming out.

:07:40.:07:44.

The men's long jump reaching its conclusion, this the only man who

:07:45.:07:50.

can deny Greg Rutherford, Damar Forbes. His final jump.

:07:51.:08:06.

That I don't think will be enough. It's certainly not going to beat

:08:07.:08:11.

Rutherford, that. Forbes trying to move himself up

:08:12.:08:25.

into the top three or perhaps challenge Rutherford. But he's not

:08:26.:08:29.

going to do that. 7. 35 it was confirmed as, so victory to

:08:30.:08:33.

Rutherford. Sealed it with his first jump. That's his seventh victory in

:08:34.:08:40.

the great CityGames from Manchester and Newcastle. Selfies and

:08:41.:08:45.

celebrations for Greg Rutherford who'll sign a few auto graphs and

:08:46.:08:52.

then move off to a nearby studio and build up for Strictly Come Dancing!

:08:53.:09:12.

Rutherford takes a win into a long, hard winter of training for Strictly

:09:13.:09:19.

Come Dancing! How long will he last? We haven't taken any bets just yet,

:09:20.:09:23.

Denise and Colin, who both went very far in the competition. Finalists,

:09:24.:09:30.

both of you. Yes, yes. Yes. What were you, first? Second, you know

:09:31.:09:34.

it. And you were? Second as well. It's all good.

:09:35.:09:38.

We'll talk to Greg later about his hopes and aspirations for that, but

:09:39.:09:42.

back to the business of athletics. Really looking forward to the 500

:09:43.:09:51.

metres later andly still that wereth Sharp -- Lynsey Sharp came first of

:09:52.:09:55.

course. Phil, I'm intrigued to know how the distance will be attacked?

:09:56.:10:03.

Let's find out. I will start with you, Annie, here is a 100, 200 metre

:10:04.:10:12.

woman, you have got up to 400, with success I might add, going to 500,

:10:13.:10:16.

what are you doing? If you want me to be honest I'm being set up and

:10:17.:10:21.

there's nothing I can do about it. I wanted to finish my season here

:10:22.:10:26.

after having a great 2016 and what's an extra 100 metres between friends

:10:27.:10:31.

and rivals? ! Coming down in distance for you, by

:10:32.:10:35.

300 metres, so how do you gauge the race, how are you going to attack

:10:36.:10:39.

the race? I don't know, I did it two years ago and feel like I went too

:10:40.:10:42.

fast. I don't know if that is the only way to do it, to go out hard

:10:43.:10:47.

and see how long you can last so I'm undecided. Same for you, you are

:10:48.:10:52.

going to go for it? See how long we can last it out. Hang on, isn't it?

:10:53.:10:58.

! Gosh! We are going to enjoy it anyway. Thanks for providing the

:10:59.:11:04.

entertainment. Thank you. Anicka is looking forward to this as

:11:05.:11:08.

much as I looked forward to dog the jive on Strictly. It's not exactly

:11:09.:11:13.

scientific their approach but should be very entertaining. The men get

:11:14.:11:18.

their turn later on as well -- forward to doing the jive on

:11:19.:11:22.

Strictly. Andrew, you can see the kind of

:11:23.:11:26.

athletes who do well at this because it's between the 100 and 200 metres?

:11:27.:11:32.

In comparison with the 500 and the 400, it's a couple of hundred metre

:11:33.:11:36.

specialists against a couple of 200 metres. Kiltie specialises in the

:11:37.:11:41.

shorter distance. A very familiar person in lane one,

:11:42.:12:05.

the former world youth junior champion over 100 metres.

:12:06.:12:20.

A high quality athlete, Spearmon. His father was a very, very good

:12:21.:12:33.

sprinter also. Richard Kilty. Y A high quality athlete, Spearmon.

:12:34.:12:40.

His father was a very, very good sprinter also. Richard Kilty. Taking

:12:41.:12:45.

his final fix. A great 60 metre man, former World Indoor Champion.

:12:46.:12:49.

European indoor champion over 60, so 150 metres. Can he hang on over the

:12:50.:12:56.

final 50? He's ran quick 100s this year not too far away from here in

:12:57.:13:03.

Hexham. Interesting stat, Desiree from 50 metres to 150, she ran that

:13:04.:13:09.

100 metres in 10. 39, so a flying start. They'll be the quickest 100

:13:10.:13:13.

metres ever run by a British woman. That's really where she won the race

:13:14.:13:24.

from 50 metres on. Sport-month-old is being attacked bid a bee. Regains

:13:25.:13:31.

his focus. Aikines-Arieety in one, Talbot in two, Spearmon in three and

:13:32.:13:37.

Kilty in lane four. The men's 150 metres.

:13:38.:13:45.

Good started as ever by Kilty and Kilty leading. Kilty and Talbot. On

:13:46.:13:53.

the inside Kilty. Spearmon trying to come back. So close between these

:13:54.:13:57.

four and Aikines-Arieety and Talbot now. Talbot and Kilty on the line

:13:58.:14:04.

just about together. Again, as it was earlier on, very difficult to

:14:05.:14:09.

call with the naked eye. Perhaps Talbot there, I've stuck my neck out

:14:10.:14:13.

and said it and that means surely it's not Talbot! Toll bolt and Kilty

:14:14.:14:19.

side by side together. A great race. I think you are rights. -- Talbot.

:14:20.:14:29.

For Harry, once he got past 100 metres, he was then just starting to

:14:30.:14:37.

struggle a bit. Richard Kilty nearest the camera, you think he's

:14:38.:14:42.

going to move on there because Danny Talbot, maybe tired from his recent

:14:43.:14:46.

exertions, but Danny just about lasting it out I think. Let's see on

:14:47.:14:52.

the dip. See what Kilty does, turns that right shoulder in there, to see

:14:53.:14:55.

if he can get the nod, but doesn't and in fact, time just coming in at

:14:56.:15:00.

15. 06, that's pretty swift. Anyone gets in under 15 is very, very good.

:15:01.:15:06.

Another great race. Good to see the guys being so competitive. I keep

:15:07.:15:11.

saying, Andrew, there is next year to think about. A lot of pride still

:15:12.:15:20.

at stake. Very good race indeed. Talbot just getting it. Kilty will

:15:21.:15:25.

wrap that up later on. Let's hear from him now talking to Phil.

:15:26.:15:30.

Providing more entertainment for the crowd today. Danny, you got the

:15:31.:15:35.

victory in the end, did you have an eye on the British record? I wanted

:15:36.:15:39.

to get through safely. It's been a good year and a good way to finish

:15:40.:15:43.

racing against my training part they ares. Good fun. Richard, you are a

:15:44.:15:48.

local lad, always love being here and running in front of the crowd.

:15:49.:15:51.

What do you want to say to the people here? Thank you very much for

:15:52.:15:55.

the support, it's absolutely amazing, speaking on behalf of the

:15:56.:15:58.

athletes, this is the favourite competition on the circuit just to

:15:59.:16:02.

bring athletics to the locals, up close, and we really appreciate your

:16:03.:16:06.

support, it's amazing. Thanks for being part of it and well done.

:16:07.:16:10.

Thank you. Good race. These were the times. Not

:16:11.:16:16.

too far away from the British record.

:16:17.:16:27.

Time now to see what Steve Cram's top three moments in the athletics

:16:28.:16:32.

season are so far. Fabulous performance. This may well

:16:33.:16:49.

be one of his best performances ever, given everything that happened

:16:50.:16:53.

today, including falling at the start line.

:16:54.:16:59.

Here's going to win his second Olympic gold. David Rudisha window.

:17:00.:17:15.

-- wins it. I can ask Steve Cram about your choices, nobody has

:17:16.:17:18.

picked Usain Bolt. Tell us how you came to that conclusion. That was

:17:19.:17:24.

all I had left. I love that 1500 metre final. It was a great race.

:17:25.:17:34.

Coming down to the last lap. In the past, he has not really try to win

:17:35.:17:39.

races, tried to win medals. This time he got himself in front.

:17:40.:17:43.

Incredible. Look at all the people coming. Mick Willis stealing in.

:17:44.:17:59.

Great race. That was one of the most incredible bits of distance running

:18:00.:18:05.

I have seen. Running about 4.90 for the first mile. We ended with David

:18:06.:18:17.

Rudisha, back to his best. A fair few doubts about him this year, he

:18:18.:18:21.

threw them away. He was contemplating this year would be it.

:18:22.:18:25.

That gold medal reminding him how good he was. Hopefully he will be in

:18:26.:18:32.

London. You will see him in London, running 500 metres later on. The

:18:33.:18:38.

last event for the seniors, a junior event after that. He has caught up

:18:39.:18:43.

with Phil Jones yesterday. He had a chat about his difficult time over

:18:44.:18:49.

the last four years. The great David Rudisha, looks magnificent. He is

:18:50.:18:53.

going to win his second Olympic gold. So happy. This is one of the

:18:54.:19:01.

achievements I have always been dreaming about. Really working hard

:19:02.:19:08.

to see that one day I achieved it. To do that. Not something that was

:19:09.:19:19.

easy. I had a lot of problems with injury in the previous years. Last

:19:20.:19:30.

race at Rio, one of the fastest times since London. Perfectly

:19:31.:19:37.

fitting in. It is great. I don't know whether people will know,

:19:38.:19:41.

talking about your injuries, just how bad it was. During my injuries,

:19:42.:19:50.

I learned a lot of things. Patience, determination. At that point, when

:19:51.:20:02.

it came back, I was getting beaten, fourth place, fifth place. Not least

:20:03.:20:07.

of it. Of course people thought, maybe now his career is over. It is

:20:08.:20:13.

ended. I never lost hope. I knew I was not doing my training properly.

:20:14.:20:18.

I knew when I would get there I would be back to my cell. On the

:20:19.:20:24.

back of the fantastic achievement in Rio, this is quite a contrast. This

:20:25.:20:29.

is a little bit and unique. Actually most of the time, this is a fast

:20:30.:20:38.

time. Without doing any competition. I think it is going to be more

:20:39.:20:44.

exciting. I am looking forward to see how it is going to go. Should be

:20:45.:20:51.

fascinating. First-time racing without spikes. Just after four

:20:52.:20:56.

o'clock. They have put the hurdles out. Andrew Cotter will commentate

:20:57.:21:02.

on the women's first. With the hurdles, it looks lethal.

:21:03.:21:08.

Interestingly with this track. The same one used in Manchester. David

:21:09.:21:13.

King said, there was a bit more bounce, the hurdles coming quickly.

:21:14.:21:19.

Adjustments for the women to make. Strong American challenge. Cindy

:21:20.:21:25.

Roleder will be powerful. Tiffany Porter with her work cut out.

:21:26.:21:33.

American clean sweep in Rio. Even without the world record Kenny

:21:34.:21:37.

Harrison. Jackie Coward finished seventh at the US trials. When you

:21:38.:21:43.

consider the strength in American women's sprinting, naming feet.

:21:44.:21:49.

Cindy Roleder, European champion, world silver medallist in Beijing.

:21:50.:21:54.

Fifth at the Olympics. Fourth in Brussels last night. Tiffany Porter,

:21:55.:22:02.

we've heard from her already. UK title win other than that, a step or

:22:03.:22:12.

to behind her younger female sister. Most people know about Jasmin

:22:13.:22:18.

Stowers. She was writing contention until falling at the final barrier.

:22:19.:22:22.

She certainly could have contended for a medal, has she been there.

:22:23.:22:27.

Perhaps they will start as the favourites here. Jackie Coward, in

:22:28.:22:41.

lane one. Tiffany Porter, there or thereabouts. Lacking a bit is it

:22:42.:22:56.

this season. -- lacking a bit of zip. Tiffany Porter goes in three.

:22:57.:23:07.

Jasmin Stowers in four. Cleanly away. Good start by Camera. Tiffany

:23:08.:23:14.

Porter moving strongly. Alongside Jackie Coward. Clear of the rest.

:23:15.:23:20.

Jackie Coward coming through to take it from Porter. That went against

:23:21.:23:28.

form. The athletes with the highest pedigrees in third and four. Jackie

:23:29.:23:33.

Coward and Tiffany Porter contesting it. Cow would taking the victory.

:23:34.:23:40.

All down to mistakes, it is a technical event, you have to

:23:41.:23:44.

remember that. Really aggressive, good to see.

:23:45.:23:51.

About this stage when Tiffany clatters one of the barriers.

:23:52.:23:56.

Pulling her right the way back. That is where she lost the race. You have

:23:57.:24:01.

to be flawless technically to take the victory. Not necessarily the

:24:02.:24:09.

quickest time. Jackie Coward taking the victory. Just ahead of Tiffany

:24:10.:24:20.

Porter. A little earlier on, some youngsters having their chance to

:24:21.:24:24.

come and sample the atmosphere. Year sevens. This was Ellie Halton, Emily

:24:25.:24:32.

Hopkinson, Sophia Das. Squalor -- qualifications races were held to

:24:33.:24:40.

make it to the final. Good time. Exactly the same as she

:24:41.:24:52.

ran in qualification. Also a very good swimmer. Showing how well she

:24:53.:24:59.

can do with running. This is Hugo Fletcher. Sorry, Charlie Fletcher,

:25:00.:25:05.

running well. I'm told his hero is Alan Shearer. Recently joined

:25:06.:25:08.

Gateshead Harriers. Great to see the youngsters enjoying

:25:09.:25:28.

this. Like these kids, if you have been watching all the great sport,

:25:29.:25:32.

including the Olympic Games. And you have inspired, don't forget to visit

:26:15.:26:27.

Confirmation of the result in the women's 100 metres hurdles.

:26:28.:26:34.

Disappointing from Cindy Roleder and Jasmin Stowers. You just heard me

:26:35.:26:43.

saying well done, you may have wondered who I was talking to, it

:26:44.:26:48.

was Greg Rutherford. Getting the formalities out of the way. As much

:26:49.:26:52.

as we appreciate your long jumping, that is what you are here to talk

:26:53.:26:59.

about. That is it. Everybody wants to talk about dancing, no long

:27:00.:27:04.

jumping. What I'm expecting. It will take over your life. It already has.

:27:05.:27:09.

On Tuesday I realise I had not done any athletics based training in

:27:10.:27:13.

three weeks. Did some run-through is on my runway. Some pop-ups, to see

:27:14.:27:20.

if I can remember. I view allows you allowed to tell us your first dance?

:27:21.:27:25.

I am not. Pretty fast, very intricate, to say the least. Quite

:27:26.:27:31.

epic. I tell you what, this is a completely new world. Very difficult

:27:32.:27:36.

to learn these dances. A hell of a lot of fun, I have the best teacher

:27:37.:27:42.

in Natalie. Natalie was here enjoying your long jump performance.

:27:43.:27:48.

You are very proficient. Natalie was out there enjoying the competition.

:27:49.:27:54.

Watching you in your day job. We thought it was important, so

:27:55.:27:58.

terrible on the dance floor, I thought, come and watch me long

:27:59.:28:03.

jumping. Something I can do, and we will see if there is anything we can

:28:04.:28:08.

transfer onto the dance floor. These to are finalists, veterans of the

:28:09.:28:11.

John Ryan. Feel free to ask them any advice. Everyone has been telling

:28:12.:28:22.

the athletes and alike, they have a very good. Always making the final.

:28:23.:28:27.

We went to the practice, and I was terrified. Remember to point your

:28:28.:28:31.

toes, good start. Don't count, keep smiling. He impressing judges. Did

:28:32.:28:40.

you count? Yes. Remember your routines, keep smiling. As long as

:28:41.:28:43.

you are smiling, look like they're having fun. For the men, it is the

:28:44.:28:51.

arms. Get the arm movement. Go wider, saving see the end of the

:28:52.:28:57.

arm. We started learning a section where my arm goes up into a

:28:58.:29:01.

physician. Getting it together. The middle finger has the slightly

:29:02.:29:07.

separate. Very difficult. Hands are difficult, if you get them wrong,

:29:08.:29:11.

they look too feminine, in dancing, does not work. What they seem to

:29:12.:29:16.

like with the sports men and women, you retain your masculinity. I am

:29:17.:29:23.

not sure I had much of that in the first place. We are working on that.

:29:24.:29:28.

The weirdest thing, every time I meet Natalie to dance. I have this

:29:29.:29:33.

weird protection, I hug her, rather than hold her. I have had to drop

:29:34.:29:38.

that. It is called holding on for dear life, you finally gets more

:29:39.:29:41.

prevalent as the competition goes on. I'm finding that in week one. We

:29:42.:29:49.

will see what happens. We are all excited, we have experienced the

:29:50.:29:52.

Strictly above all, it is a wonderful show. Best of luck from

:29:53.:29:56.

the athletics world. Don't tell me you are not dancing to Van Halen's

:29:57.:30:01.

Jump. Something like that may make an appearance. I don't know what

:30:02.:30:07.

dances are coming up. Apparently a view jump and references in my

:30:08.:30:11.

routines. And surely will do well. Best of luck. We may come along.

:30:12.:30:18.

Let's get back to athletics. Very interesting 500 metres races coming

:30:19.:30:23.

up. The women giving off first. Andrew Cotter, fancy your chances at

:30:24.:30:30.

Strictly? Absolutely not. Looking forward to the women's 500 metres.

:30:31.:30:35.

Three 400 metre runners against three 800 metres runners. Who will

:30:36.:30:46.

win? To give you a pointer, when this event was last Asian couple of

:30:47.:30:52.

years ago. Christine Ohuruogu won against Lynsey Sharp. A blow for the

:30:53.:30:59.

400 metre runners. It is a tricky course, 500 metres start, they come

:31:00.:31:03.

down the slope. Little bit of a bend, coming round. Eventually

:31:04.:31:06.

getting to the track, 150 metres to go. Who will win?

:31:07.:31:19.

Lynsey Sharp. Tracey. How will they judge it? So difficult in this

:31:20.:31:32.

rarely run distance. Lynsey sharn at the moment.

:31:33.:31:49.

ANoura biding her time. So too Neilsen. Sharp still just alongside

:31:50.:32:05.

the woman who's pushed her so hard and made 100 metres. Anoura trying

:32:06.:32:13.

to get back. Sharp hanging on, hanging on, and she's going to get

:32:14.:32:20.

the victory. Celebrations across the line from Sharp. She takes the

:32:21.:32:27.

victory and strikes a blow. That's hard work. She took it out quickly.

:32:28.:32:32.

She knew she would have the strength to hang on towards the end. Lynsey

:32:33.:32:39.

Sharp with just enough to hold off Oskan-Clarke so the 800 meeters

:32:40.:32:47.

dominating. That's fast. Lynsey got her tactics right.

:32:48.:32:56.

Well done Lynsey lasting it out. Smile across the line eventually

:32:57.:33:07.

replaces the grimace. 162 has been confirmed. There's a bit of a

:33:08.:33:16.

downhill section at the start. Very quick time and good run for Lynsey

:33:17.:33:19.

Sharp. Oskan-Clarke just ahead of Oanoura.

:33:20.:33:34.

Phil Jones milling around and he has the main protagonists with him.

:33:35.:33:39.

We spoke to both these women before the race. We didn't know what to

:33:40.:33:44.

expect but you provided great entertainment. Lynsey, you got it

:33:45.:33:50.

spot on? I had a couple of people to work with. My legs buckled a bit as

:33:51.:33:54.

I came on to the track but I was able to recover from it. You did

:33:55.:33:59.

well. Chasing her down. 500, let's be honest, is a tough ask for you

:34:00.:34:07.

and somebody who's been a sprinter in the past? It was good fun, I

:34:08.:34:13.

actually really enjoyed it. I'm not putting it out there that I want to

:34:14.:34:21.

move to 800, I'm just saying... Good on Lynsey, you recovered well. Final

:34:22.:34:25.

word on the whole occasion today, what's it been like for you to round

:34:26.:34:30.

off this kind of season? It's the place that everyone wants to end the

:34:31.:34:33.

season, so much fun, great to be back in front of the British crowd

:34:34.:34:37.

and celebrating the whole year. It's been such fun, thank you to

:34:38.:34:39.

everybody for being an incredible crowd. Thank you for the

:34:40.:34:43.

entertainment today, it's been wonderful. Thank you.

:34:44.:34:53.

Lynsey Sharp and Onuora. Oskan-Clarke separating them.

:34:54.:35:13.

Brendan Foster's moments coming up now.

:35:14.:35:19.

One of the greatest pieces of distance you've ever seen. Kipchoge.

:35:20.:35:31.

In my view, he's the greatest sportsman Britain's ever had and

:35:32.:35:34.

seen and one of the greatest distance runners the world's ever

:35:35.:35:43.

seen. Arise, Sir Mo! How did you come up with him? ! I

:35:44.:35:49.

met him once! Let's talk about your other choices as well, Kipchoge,

:35:50.:35:54.

deserved a mention? He's been a great athlete for a long time, 2003

:35:55.:35:59.

he won the World Championships at 5,000 metres and then 13 years later

:36:00.:36:04.

after years of being on the rostrum there and thereabouts, just the true

:36:05.:36:09.

Olympic spirit, keeping going, keeping going, eventually winning a

:36:10.:36:12.

marathon was wonderful. He's a terrific man, a character and a

:36:13.:36:16.

great inspiration for lots of athletes around the world. An

:36:17.:36:21.

amazing way to start the athletics programme? It was a real shock. The

:36:22.:36:28.

performances, nobody's looked at the record books to see how long the

:36:29.:36:31.

records have stood. We always assume the records will last forever,

:36:32.:36:33.

especially in China. That was marvellous, a wonderful

:36:34.:36:48.

time and then Mohammed Farah, I mean he was sensational! He has a knack

:36:49.:36:52.

of winning gold medals. Honestly, he news to package it and explain to us

:36:53.:36:57.

all how it happens because the next generation deserve to learn from Mo

:36:58.:37:01.

and how you do it, not just to be a great athlete, but to come here,

:37:02.:37:04.

become a great athlete, winning gold medals all the time. It's been a

:37:05.:37:09.

pleasure watching him. He won the first global gold in 2011 and then

:37:10.:37:14.

at every major Championships since it's been double gold. It's easy to

:37:15.:37:18.

become a little complacent and think, that's what you do, but it's

:37:19.:37:22.

not been done what he's done before? No athlete in history's dominated

:37:23.:37:26.

distance running year after year for six or seven years. He's here!

:37:27.:37:30.

Listen, you can tell what they think of im. He's just the greatest, he

:37:31.:37:35.

really is. He's not going to go to the hurdles is he. He'll be nervous

:37:36.:37:38.

with the Great North Run tomorrow, if he was going to start hurdling,

:37:39.:37:44.

you would be nervous. Let's give him a wave, he's behind us here. Mo!

:37:45.:37:49.

He's got his jeans on, looking very casual today. Look at the crowds and

:37:50.:37:55.

the kids, you know, that's how you get inspired isn't it, that's how

:37:56.:37:58.

you get kids involved in sport, you push in order their people like me

:37:59.:38:02.

to go for a bit longer, you know, I've been reading about some running

:38:03.:38:08.

in the Great North Run tomorrow. I was reading about one lady who'd

:38:09.:38:11.

never run before and she was inspired by Mo. He's such a good

:38:12.:38:15.

guy. He's explaining to people, you only get there by hard work. That's

:38:16.:38:19.

the message that everyone takes away. He worked hard, done it

:38:20.:38:23.

brilliantly and he's a pleasure to be around, he's a great guy.

:38:24.:38:28.

Let's get back out there, Brendan, because there's so much great

:38:29.:38:32.

athletics still to come. Thank you very much for your choices as well.

:38:33.:38:36.

Time for the men's hurdles. Let's go back to the commentary box.

:38:37.:38:47.

If men's 110 metres hurdles and this is the line-up.

:38:48.:39:04.

Eaton standing clear from the rest. A pretty good line-up this,

:39:05.:39:21.

actually. And there is David King, new personal best 13.54 for the

:39:22.:39:23.

22-year-old. Alongside him is the man who might

:39:24.:39:37.

be the future of British men's spin hurdling, David Omeregie. Ran 13. 25

:39:38.:39:44.

in July but it was too late to be considered for Rio. How will he go

:39:45.:39:55.

here? Alongside him, the US indoor champion, Jarret Eaton. Ties with

:39:56.:40:01.

Omeregie. Svoboda of the Czech Republic, the indoor European

:40:02.:40:08.

champion in 2011. So many problems with his Achilles and so many

:40:09.:40:12.

operations. Best days perhaps behind him. Omeregie and Eaton again on

:40:13.:40:21.

form. Didn't go to form at all in the women's 100 hurdles. Might

:40:22.:40:25.

expect a battle between Eaton and Omeregie.

:40:26.:40:31.

Almost a heat haze on the banks of the Tyne. Strange days. King,

:40:32.:40:34.

Omeregie, Eaton and Svoboda. This is the penultimate track event,

:40:35.:40:42.

the men's 500 metres to come, which will be fascinating.

:40:43.:40:53.

57,000 running in the great north run tomorrow.

:40:54.:41:12.

Little touch there from King but clearly away now and Omeregie

:41:13.:41:27.

falling back there immediately at the first hurdle. Eaton getting back

:41:28.:41:32.

into it. Omeregie all over the place. Omeregie coming through now

:41:33.:41:36.

to take it. Strange race and Omeregie takes the victory. That's a

:41:37.:41:42.

raw pace bought through at the end. It wasn't the cleanest race. But he

:41:43.:41:47.

tidied things up. An early stutter and Eaton stumbled over the barriers

:41:48.:41:51.

and Omeregie was there to take advantage and take the victory. I

:41:52.:41:55.

think David is very happy that other people around him made mistakes as

:41:56.:42:01.

well, causing him to come back into that great race of his. You make

:42:02.:42:05.

mistakes along the way, you have to learn how to handle them. There was

:42:06.:42:09.

arms that clashed which caused a bit of upset. You know what, he takes

:42:10.:42:13.

the victory and he'll be happy to finish the season there.

:42:14.:42:19.

We watch from on high, but their arms were interlocking. Svoboda was

:42:20.:42:23.

almost off the track. The two men, after a very good start by Svoboda,

:42:24.:42:29.

you see a bit of a tangle. A bit of a clash of arms. You can see there,

:42:30.:42:33.

that's when they had the Big Bash, that could have caused a lot of

:42:34.:42:37.

hassle there. What the end result will be, will Eaton himself

:42:38.:42:40.

complain, who knows, it's the end of the season, he may just take it on

:42:41.:42:44.

the chin. There are rules, but certainly in

:42:45.:42:49.

this meeting, they do tend to be a bit more lenient with things.

:42:50.:42:54.

Omeregie was out of his lane briefly interfering with Eaton. There is the

:42:55.:42:56.

results. David, congratulations on the win.

:42:57.:43:15.

Unfortunately, the guy alongside you here clipped and gave you the chance

:43:16.:43:19.

to come back at him? Yes, yes, it was a really close race. To be

:43:20.:43:24.

honest, I just wanted to do this and finish injury free because I've had

:43:25.:43:28.

a hell of a travel to get here the last couple of hours. I managed to

:43:29.:43:32.

get here and Jarret was the same, just happy to finish the season on a

:43:33.:43:36.

high with a win. What's it been like, a nightmare getting here? Oh,

:43:37.:43:42.

man, some crazy travels. Limited sleep last night, taking a bus at 4

:43:43.:43:47.

am getting here at 6, trying to get a nap, you know. Had it better than

:43:48.:43:50.

somebody else but you've got to do what you've got to do it.

:43:51.:43:57.

Unfortunately, you clipped? Anything can happen in hurdles, we are so

:43:58.:44:01.

close, things happen, but, you know, it didn't work out in my favour this

:44:02.:44:05.

time. A nice way to round off season for you? Yes. London 2017, nice

:44:06.:44:11.

three-week break then back into training for next year. Wish you

:44:12.:44:15.

well for next year, thanks guys, all the very best. Thank you. Thank you.

:44:16.:44:21.

I'm delighted to say that Mo Farah has taken himself away from those

:44:22.:44:29.

hysterical fans, delighted fans here and made his way up to the studio.

:44:30.:44:33.

Good to see you and it's the first chance we have had to say

:44:34.:44:37.

congratulations. What an amazing Olympics? Yes, amazing Olympics and

:44:38.:44:44.

I'm just glad to be here with the fans and they've turned up. I was

:44:45.:44:50.

watching seeing the guys do well and thinking, I miss that, I've got to

:44:51.:44:54.

wait another day. You have indeed. You have had a chance to lap it up,

:44:55.:44:58.

then get your racing head on for the Great North Run tomorrow? Yes,

:44:59.:45:01.

that's very exciting. The team have put on a great show over the years

Rudisha, congratulations, how did you find 500 metres? Thank you.

:54:33.:54:38.

Really nice way, to try something different. Running 500 metres here,

:54:39.:54:45.

one of my best ways to finish the season, 2016. We heard you say you

had never raced without spikes. How did that feel? It felt different.

exciting. I have enjoyed this race more than any other. You always have

a glorious smile on your face when you run. Incredible season, huge

:55:12.:55:17.

congratulations on the Olympics. Thank you, it was great. Nothing to

:55:18.:55:22.

complain about. My preparation was fantastic. From the beginning of the

:55:23.:55:28.

season, no injuries. I was not worried about it. The weather is

:55:29.:55:34.

always like this in Newcastle. Mo Farah will tell you, he is running

in a Great North Run. We were discussing whether David will do in

years to come. Amazing athlete, making it look easy. We went for a

:55:45.:55:48.

jog, he went up to three kilometres yesterday. He has it in him. Fancy a

half marathon? Maybe, just running for fun in future after my career.

:56:17.:56:22.

Such an elegant runner. Understatement to describe David's

:56:23.:56:26.

performance like that. One of these true world-class athletes. When they

are at their best, beautiful to watch. Even as a sprint hurdler I
