Hello and a very warm welcome to the 37th Bank of Scotland Great Scottish | :00:49. | :00:55.
Run. Across the weekend, in the might be and junior run, the family | :00:56. | :01:01.
mile and toddler dash and today's events the 10 k and half marathon | :01:02. | :01:04.
close to 30,000 people are taking part. Today we have two elite races | :01:05. | :01:08.
as well and the men's in particular, should be a real ding-dong battle | :01:09. | :01:12.
between local favourite Callum Hawkins and the defending champion | :01:13. | :01:20.
Moses Kipsiro. We will have Olympic heroes dropping in in the course of | :01:21. | :01:24.
the morning and into the early afternoon. I am in George Square, | :01:25. | :01:28.
the start place, it is absolutely buzzing, the streets of Glasgow are | :01:29. | :01:34.
packed with spectator, and the runners are gathering ready to get | :01:35. | :01:37.
going in this celebration of sport here in Glasgow. | :01:38. | :01:43.
Before they get going it is time to reflect on some tragic events that | :01:44. | :01:46.
took place in Glasgow over the weekend. Yesterday, some Rangers | :01:47. | :01:52.
fans were on a bus that overturned and one of the fans sadly lost his | :01:53. | :02:00.
life. Then on Friday night boxer Mike Towel lost his life taking part | :02:01. | :02:05.
in a sport he loved. We send our thoughts and condolences to the | :02:06. | :02:10.
friend and family involved in those horrific events. | :02:11. | :02:15.
Today, here in George Square at the Great Scottish Run, we celebrate the | :02:16. | :02:21.
human endeavour, the hundreds of thousands of pounds raised for | :02:22. | :02:24.
charity and between now and quarter to two, this is what is coming up | :02:25. | :02:36.
here on the programme. I am running in memory of Graham | :02:37. | :02:39.
Bryce, and who. Inspiration to everybody. I am raising Monday for | :02:40. | :02:46.
the British Heart Foundation. Remember people shouting for me. I | :02:47. | :02:52.
thought my life was over, doing 10 k from where I have come from, for me | :02:53. | :02:58.
it is a big achievement. One of the things I like about this | :02:59. | :03:04.
is the able-bodied community linking with the community who face | :03:05. | :03:09.
challenges we don't normally face. February, March time we noticed | :03:10. | :03:13.
there was a run going through Pollok Park, I thought it was perfect | :03:14. | :03:16.
because Pollok Park to us meant so much. | :03:17. | :03:22.
Going through finish line the first time was wonderful. I thought if I | :03:23. | :03:28.
can do it once, I can keep on doing it. Just that kind of initial, I | :03:29. | :03:33.
can't do it any more, actually I can. | :03:34. | :03:40.
Yes, some real great stories are of human endeavour. Lots of money raise | :03:41. | :03:49.
for charity, David Curry will be out and about talking to athletes and | :03:50. | :03:53.
people raising money. He is with one now who is working for the Glasgow | :03:54. | :03:58.
hospice and doing pretty well at it. One of the great things the many | :03:59. | :04:01.
great things about the Great Scottish Run is it brings the | :04:02. | :04:04.
generosity of the public to the fore. The big heartedness and hearts | :04:05. | :04:12.
don't come bigger than this. It is Harvey The Heart you are running | :04:13. | :04:16.
today for Glasgow hospice but you are running to try and break a world | :04:17. | :04:22.
record, fill me in In the world record is 1 hour 37 minute, so today | :04:23. | :04:28.
we are trying to beat that by one hour 36.5 minutes. You already hold | :04:29. | :04:33.
I believe the marathon record, so this should be a piece of cake. It | :04:34. | :04:38.
was three hours 17 minutes which is fast, so we hope we can achieve | :04:39. | :04:43.
today. I believe your rival Bobby the Bee isn't running so, it is all | :04:44. | :04:50.
down you today. Bobby the Bee, he holds the record but today Harvey | :04:51. | :04:56.
takes a wing off the bee. All the very best Harvey. Aka Frank. Thank | :04:57. | :05:05.
you. Bobby the bee against Harvey a | :05:06. | :05:09.
ding-dong battle. We will see halfy doing great work as is David Currie, | :05:10. | :05:13.
we will hear more as we go through the morning. We are also going to be | :05:14. | :05:18.
lucky that some Olympians are dropping by. Two will be beside me | :05:19. | :05:23.
in a moment, Callum Skinner and Katie Archibald. Let us remind | :05:24. | :05:26.
ourselves of their golden moments from Rio. | :05:27. | :05:31.
The United States, against Great Britain, what an Olympic final we | :05:32. | :05:37.
have on our hands here. And the one Clem for mark, advantage slightly, | :05:38. | :05:41.
to the United States. Katie Archibald on the front for Great | :05:42. | :05:44.
Britain, she is such a powerful rider. | :05:45. | :05:52.
Into the finishing straight and up towards the line, gold for grin. | :05:53. | :05:57.
They smashed the world record. Nobody has ergone faster, but those | :05:58. | :06:05.
four women there. Phil hands, it will be Callum Skinner. We are under | :06:06. | :06:11.
way in the final. Will it be a blistering first lap from Hundreds. | :06:12. | :06:16.
Callum Skinner just beautifully placed to take over, as Jason Kenny | :06:17. | :06:23.
hand it over, it is so close. It is Callum Skinner, who is going to | :06:24. | :06:27.
claim the gold medal. The gold medal goes to Great Britain. The Olympic | :06:28. | :06:32.
champions again. Callum Skinner, bringing it home for | :06:33. | :06:36.
Britain on the back of Hinds and Kenny i what a ride, what a start to | :06:37. | :06:45.
this velodrome campaign in Rio. Yes, fantastic memories are from | :06:46. | :06:49.
there, I am glad to say they are joining us live. Column, I will come | :06:50. | :06:53.
to you first, see you winning the gold medal there but you have that | :06:54. | :06:57.
silver medal as that you won in the individual against Jason Kenny, very | :06:58. | :07:02.
successful Olympics for you. It was a bit surreal. Compared to the | :07:03. | :07:06.
previous World Championships which were disappointing it was amazing to | :07:07. | :07:09.
come to a games and make such progression and come together so | :07:10. | :07:14.
well as a team. London we were sixth in world, and to end up being in the | :07:15. | :07:19.
best in the world is a turn round. Katie, from your point of view you | :07:20. | :07:23.
had been World Champion and European champion in the team as well. Going | :07:24. | :07:27.
into the Olympics, a lot expected of you, but to deliver was amazing. | :07:28. | :07:33.
Totally. Similar to column, we hadn't had, we got a bronze medal at | :07:34. | :07:37.
the World Championships so all eyes were on the Americans who were the | :07:38. | :07:42.
world record holders so it was cool to reassert ourselves and make that | :07:43. | :07:48.
stamp. They have the velodrome in Glasgow now, and has that had an | :07:49. | :07:55.
impact on you guy, you train down south but having the velodrome, has | :07:56. | :07:59.
that made an impact on yourable to bring back gold medals. We started | :08:00. | :08:06.
at Meadowbank in Edinburgh. By the next Olympics you will see the | :08:07. | :08:11.
effect of that Velodrome where you have kids who say I went there and | :08:12. | :08:15.
now I am here, when I have made an aim for the Commonwealth game, I am | :08:16. | :08:20.
training at the moment, it is a world class facility that allows | :08:21. | :08:23.
Scotland to be one of the best nations in the world. Jason Kenny | :08:24. | :08:28.
was able to push Sir Chris Hoy off his pedestal in terms of the sprint, | :08:29. | :08:33.
but you are there now, and you are pushing him, maybe push him off. He | :08:34. | :08:37.
is hugely successful as a rider. He is probably the best the sport has | :08:38. | :08:41.
seen. His dominance has been phenomenal. He deserves to be | :08:42. | :08:46.
Britain's most successful Olympian. On the other hand, the Monday store | :08:47. | :08:51.
has just fallen over. That is great thing about live television! There | :08:52. | :08:56.
is no better person to chase in training than Jason, he hoes you | :08:57. | :09:00.
where you need to be, I am fort natural I can chase him and get | :09:01. | :09:04.
closer. You guys are here and you are supporting this event, the half | :09:05. | :09:08.
marathon and the 10 k in particular, I know you have been out and about | :09:09. | :09:12.
and speaking to athlete, what is the general sense and the feeling | :09:13. | :09:17.
around? We have been meeting a lot of the runners, looking to is a good | :09:18. | :09:23.
time. I am yet to see the people who are dead competitive. It is a big | :09:24. | :09:27.
event. There is about 30,000 people running over the weekend, and really | :09:28. | :09:31.
encouraging to see such a community participation. And yourself as well, | :09:32. | :09:36.
column, you are an inspirational figure, you have the gold medal and | :09:37. | :09:43.
silver medal there. The thing, the Tories, people are overcoming | :09:44. | :09:44.
adversity, raising money for charity. I am sure everyone has a | :09:45. | :09:48.
personal reason as to why they take part, whether it is for charity, or | :09:49. | :09:52.
to prove it to themselveses or their family. People say they take | :09:53. | :09:59.
inspiration. I take inspiration from them as well. Listen, guy, thank you | :10:00. | :10:06.
for joining us today, thank you for being ambassador, so not just | :10:07. | :10:10.
Olympic heroes, Paralympic heroes as well. David is we one. I am with | :10:11. | :10:18.
Derek Ray Paralympic marathon run e not long that back from the sun of | :10:19. | :10:21.
Roy owe back to the streets of Glasgow. I landed back in Scotland | :10:22. | :10:26.
last Tuesday, so just getting my head round everything back home and | :10:27. | :10:31.
getting used to the cold. Are acclimatised? Yes it is different to | :10:32. | :10:37.
Rio! Back to what I am used to. Having peaked for the marathon in | :10:38. | :10:41.
Rio, have you been doing training for this, how do you see it going? I | :10:42. | :10:45.
just kept training as I was before I went out. I was on a week before the | :10:46. | :10:51.
marathon, I kept that going with the intention of running today. I will | :10:52. | :10:54.
have a break after this one today, I think. Set yourself a target for | :10:55. | :10:59.
today time wise? No I am going to go round and enjoy it. See how the legs | :11:00. | :11:03.
are feel after the trip in Brazil and the flying home, I am feeling | :11:04. | :11:07.
relatively in good shape so I will see how the legs feel after the | :11:08. | :11:11.
race. You have come a long way, you only started running to get fit for | :11:12. | :11:15.
football. That is right. It has been a whirlwind few year, I have only | :11:16. | :11:20.
been involved in parasports for two years, I never imagined I would be | :11:21. | :11:23.
in this position, so I love what I do, I love the aspect of being fit | :11:24. | :11:28.
and training and working hard, so it is not a chore, it is a pleasurier | :11:29. | :11:34.
for me. Best of luck and hopefully I will catch you at the finish. -- | :11:35. | :11:37.
pleasure. Derek is one of the guys taking part | :11:38. | :11:42.
today. As you can see the start line is is a pretty busy place here in | :11:43. | :11:46.
Glasgow. George Square, everyone is lining up for the half that are | :11:47. | :11:50.
Monday, it is getting under way in probably seven or eight minutes | :11:51. | :11:54.
time. All the supporters are here as you can see. It's a huge event and a | :11:55. | :12:00.
long way to go, 13.1 miles. Jane Lewis is at the half way stage at a | :12:01. | :12:05.
very misty Pollok Park. Located in the south of the city, | :12:06. | :12:10.
this is the largest park in Glasgow. Famed for its wonderful woodland and | :12:11. | :12:14.
gorgeous gardens and high land cows, and also home to this place, Pollock | :12:15. | :12:20.
house, a stunning or-January mansion built in 1752. The house was the | :12:21. | :12:26.
ancestral home of the Maxwell family for 700 year, but 50 years ago the | :12:27. | :12:30.
family gifted it to the city of Glasgow. Now the house is open to | :12:31. | :12:34.
the public but no time for the runners to pop in, and enjoy a quick | :12:35. | :12:38.
tour round the house today, hopefully though, we will be able to | :12:39. | :12:41.
enjoy the scenery as they are running through the park, knowing | :12:42. | :12:46.
they are half way there. It is pretty misty over there in | :12:47. | :12:51.
Pollok Park, here at George Square the sun is out, although we are kind | :12:52. | :12:55.
of in the shade but it is out behind us. David is out and about speaking | :12:56. | :13:00.
to guys who are smiling and putting some sunshine on the faces of the | :13:01. | :13:03.
whole people taking part in the Great Scottish Run today. | :13:04. | :13:10.
DC here with a more famous DC. December Clarke. The last time I saw | :13:11. | :13:14.
you running you had an Olympic torch in your hand. That is right. It was | :13:15. | :13:19.
through George Square here, so that was an amazing memory, it was from | :13:20. | :13:24.
that I thought I better do this properly, that was 300 metres and | :13:25. | :13:27.
today is 10 k, so many memories broig back. I can't wait for this. | :13:28. | :13:34.
You played a big part in the Commonwealth game, you played a | :13:35. | :13:37.
small part. I was there for the opening and closing ceremony. I was | :13:38. | :13:41.
basically the janitor. Seeing the big events come to Scotland, it has | :13:42. | :13:46.
encouraged me and many others to say I am going to give it a go. That is | :13:47. | :13:50.
what today is about. You have a wee bit of patter going round with other | :13:51. | :13:57.
runners or will you go head down. I can't do anything without talking. I | :13:58. | :14:02.
want the patter. I have told people I'm a proper runner because I have | :14:03. | :14:05.
two watch, that is all I have got. They don't tell the time, I can't | :14:06. | :14:10.
wait for it. You want the encouragement, and a bit of | :14:11. | :14:13.
cheering. All the best, see you at the finish. See you at the finish. | :14:14. | :14:19.
Yes, how many watches does he need? I am with one of our commentary | :14:20. | :14:25.
team, the former world 10 k and half marathon champion, Liz McColgan. | :14:26. | :14:29.
First you are originally from Dundee, living in Doha, you haven't | :14:30. | :14:34.
got any socks on, are you not freezing. It's a bit cold. I am | :14:35. | :14:39.
happy to be here, one of my favourite race, I won it so many | :14:40. | :14:44.
moons ago, but great to see such a crowd and atmosphere. We will look | :14:45. | :14:49.
forward to the elite races but let us reflect on the Olympics. | :14:50. | :14:57.
We had a pretty cute show -- pretty good show of Scottish athletes. We | :14:58. | :15:09.
had great success in Rio. Not just the athletes that got there. But | :15:10. | :15:13.
everybody thinks it just happened this year. There were eight athletes | :15:14. | :15:19.
in the Bank of Scotland training squad that were identified in 2006. | :15:20. | :15:24.
These kids have grown up now. It is fantastic to see them come together | :15:25. | :15:30.
and see the success they have had. We had some great performances, | :15:31. | :15:34.
people making finals, and it was just fantastic to see. There is a | :15:35. | :15:42.
lot more to come. A pretty good performance to get that far with | :15:43. | :15:50.
injuries. Eilidh came to me. She was injured. She was running in the | :15:51. | :15:55.
pool. To actually make an Olympic final after 35 miles a week was | :15:56. | :16:03.
amazing. Our head is now in the right place to say she can do 25 | :16:04. | :16:07.
laps, it isn't a big marathon. She is going to be able to run that | :16:08. | :16:14.
distance. It will begin. A couple of gold medals and bronze medals, as | :16:15. | :16:20.
well. It is shining all three. From the Paralympians to the elite | :16:21. | :16:23.
athletes. We have a great set of athletes. And we have the support. | :16:24. | :16:27.
That makes the difference. When we get the support, the athletes can go | :16:28. | :16:31.
on and be competitive and now they are getting medals. Let's look ahead | :16:32. | :16:34.
to the women's elite race and remind ourselves of who is taking part. | :16:35. | :17:20.
Let's talk about the women's race. You won this a while ago, as you | :17:21. | :17:28.
said. It is a mouthwatering prospect today, especially with the women's | :17:29. | :17:31.
race, we will talk about the men's in a minute. We have highlighted | :17:32. | :17:37.
some, but who do you reckon? It'll be competitive. The three Kenyan | :17:38. | :17:40.
girls, you can toss a coin to see which one is going to win. But for | :17:41. | :17:47.
me, Betsy Saina has a great track record. The other girls have done | :17:48. | :17:51.
some road racing, she hasn't, she had a fantastic run in the 10,000 | :17:52. | :17:55.
metres. The world record was broken in Rio. She ran just outside 30 | :17:56. | :17:59.
minutes. If she is in that type of shape she will be difficult to beat. | :18:00. | :18:05.
It will be an interesting race with the track runners. The men's race | :18:06. | :18:09.
will be interesting, as well. Last year's runner-up was Callum Hawkins | :18:10. | :18:18.
and he spoke to Jane early on. -- earlier on. | :18:19. | :18:22.
Callum this is your third Great Scottish Run. You've had a fantastic | :18:23. | :18:31.
year. Everybody saw what you did in the real Olympics. Leading in the | :18:32. | :18:37.
men's marathon at the halfway stage. -- Rio Olympics. He finished ninth, | :18:38. | :18:40.
which was a remarkable result for you. How much confidence do you take | :18:41. | :18:45.
from that? How do you build on that? It has given me so much confidence. | :18:46. | :18:50.
It has spurred me on to really go for it now. Looking forward to | :18:51. | :18:59.
Tokyo. It is about the fine margins, the 1% gains, I have just got to | :19:00. | :19:03.
look at everything I am doing like diet, strength and condition, | :19:04. | :19:06.
training itself, and just trying to improve on it. I love this course. | :19:07. | :19:15.
Two of my three quickest times have been here. Everybody was shouting my | :19:16. | :19:20.
name. It was crazy. This is my first-ever half marathon. It sparked | :19:21. | :19:30.
me to move up to the marathon. Was this to set the tone for what was | :19:31. | :19:34.
going to come for you? Definitely. I did not quite run as fast as I was | :19:35. | :19:38.
hoping for. I was planning for my first marathon in Frankfurt. The | :19:39. | :19:43.
confidence was not quite there. But I came here, I ran a great PB, got | :19:44. | :19:47.
close to the best ever Scottish result. I qualified for Frankfurt. | :19:48. | :19:55.
From there, I qualified for London. Can you win it this year? I'm not | :19:56. | :19:59.
sure, but I will definitely go for it. Hopefully I will get a PB, maybe | :20:00. | :20:03.
even quicker, hopefully challenge for the win. Maybe even win it. May | :20:04. | :20:11.
be coming year, we'll see. -- maybe, yeah, we will see. This is the start | :20:12. | :20:18.
of the half marathon. Some of the elite runners warming up in George | :20:19. | :20:22.
Square, Glasgow. I know you are impressed with what Callum Hawkins | :20:23. | :20:25.
has done, the way he has developed as an athlete. I have known him and | :20:26. | :20:29.
his brother since he was a wee lad. I've always been impressed with him. | :20:30. | :20:34.
A gutsy run. Probably not the most talented, but he digs in, gives 100% | :20:35. | :20:38.
no matter what. All the way through as a junior, he has always shone | :20:39. | :20:42.
through as a potential. I am excited to see what he can do in the | :20:43. | :20:47.
marathon because that is his event. He was runner-up here last year, he | :20:48. | :20:51.
got ninth in the Olympics, great performance for him, can he win this | :20:52. | :20:55.
today, become the first Scottish male to win the Great Scottish Run? | :20:56. | :20:58.
I reckon he has a great opportunity today. We need a Scottish winner, | :20:59. | :21:04.
the last time we had one was in 1993. It depends on how he has | :21:05. | :21:10.
recovered from the Olympics. Knowing him as an athlete I don't think he | :21:11. | :21:13.
would have come here if he wasn't already recovered and ready to go. | :21:14. | :21:18.
He hasn't -- Moses hasn't run the best this year, so I think Callum | :21:19. | :21:22.
Hawkins can take the opportunity. Let's hear from the defending | :21:23. | :21:25.
champion, Moses Kipsiro, who is not fully fit coming into this. | :21:26. | :21:39.
I'm not so fit. But, maybe 50%. To me, I look forward to defend my | :21:40. | :21:46.
title. Missing the real Olympics did not work for me. I was injured. 50% | :21:47. | :21:56.
fit for the Great Scottish Run. Is 50% Victor Moses enough to win it? | :21:57. | :22:00.
Yeah, I am looking forward to win. Yeah. Maybe by Sunday, it will maybe | :22:01. | :22:08.
be 60%. CHUCKLES | :22:09. | :22:11.
Hopefully. But I am looking forward to defending. It is extraordinary. | :22:12. | :22:18.
Even if he isn't fully fit I reckon he is going to have a great chance | :22:19. | :22:24.
to carry on. Let's talk about Moses Kipsiro, the sort of guy he is come | :22:25. | :22:27.
his ability as an athlete. An amazing guy. He says he isn't fully | :22:28. | :22:33.
fit, but he could still win this, couldn't he? He has had a difficult | :22:34. | :22:37.
year. He ran a marathon and finished fourth. Then he has malaria. He was | :22:38. | :22:43.
really ill. He has come back. He's in good shape. Just not at his best. | :22:44. | :22:48.
For him to be against Callum Hawkins, and Callum Hawkins is in | :22:49. | :22:53.
good shape, it will be tough. This is part of his preparation for the | :22:54. | :22:57.
New York Marathon. It is a matter of seeing just how fit he is. Callum | :22:58. | :23:01.
Hawkins could hang onto him. I think he has a weakness in his changes. He | :23:02. | :23:06.
is not as dominant as we would expect. We will have to let you go | :23:07. | :23:10.
to the commentary booth. Thanks for the moment. This is the Great | :23:11. | :23:12.
Scottish Run, but there is another runner who could win this today, | :23:13. | :23:17.
this fellow runs for a great Scottish club. | :23:18. | :23:27.
The club is 112 years old. Based in the East End of Glasgow. Long, long | :23:28. | :23:35.
history. Many famous runners have passed through our doors. Famous | :23:36. | :23:42.
athletes. We have had a winner from the Commonwealth Games. Karen | :23:43. | :23:46.
Sharpe, his daughter Lindsey is doing some great stuff. Famous | :23:47. | :23:52.
athletics in Scotland and in the UK. This is a new home. We moved here | :23:53. | :24:02.
about 20 years ago. This is legacy in action. We will be over the moon | :24:03. | :24:07.
to have this on our doorstep. And let's make sure we are here in | :24:08. | :24:10.
another 100 years. We are a family club. What we do is we endeavour to | :24:11. | :24:17.
help everybody to settle. I came to the training and I thought Lindsey | :24:18. | :24:24.
had different levels. With the different levels you can pretty much | :24:25. | :24:30.
fit right in. It is welcoming. We have a good balance between | :24:31. | :24:32.
grassroots athletics and an elite side. Everyone comes along. Everyone | :24:33. | :24:40.
is really friendly. It has built up a good reputation. Really fast | :24:41. | :24:42.
runners. And the fast runners want to come here, and chase our tails. | :24:43. | :24:47.
If you are an international athlete and you've just moved over to | :24:48. | :24:54.
Scotland, you want to be running with good runners. They spotted that | :24:55. | :25:00.
they came straight to the Harriers. In 2008 the world cross-country | :25:01. | :25:02.
championships were in Edinburgh. Very famous story. It has been | :25:03. | :25:10.
around the press that after that a number of athletes from Eritrea came | :25:11. | :25:17.
to Scotland. We got a phone call saying that they have some refugees | :25:18. | :25:21.
for us. Saying that they had qualified for the Olympics. The | :25:22. | :25:27.
London one is the most famous one for us. He was a young boy. He was | :25:28. | :25:33.
out with his friend. He stood on a landmine. His friend was killed. He | :25:34. | :25:38.
was badly injured. He fought for his life. He has a wee scar on his | :25:39. | :25:46.
forehead. A very interesting story. It shows you that with determination | :25:47. | :25:50.
you can do anything for yourself. He is from Eritrea. He runs for a | :25:51. | :26:04.
great Scottish club. Today is not just about the half marathon, there | :26:05. | :26:08.
is a ten kilometre, as well. David is with a couple who will be taking | :26:09. | :26:11.
part today. This dynamic duo are the McDonald's, | :26:12. | :26:17.
Carolyn and Jamie. Jamie, you are blind, so you run with Carolyn, very | :26:18. | :26:24.
much a team effort. Absolutely. We share this little dressing gown | :26:25. | :26:30.
cord. She guides me through the ten K. It is OK for me, it is stressful | :26:31. | :26:35.
for her. She is getting you through, but she might be guided by you, | :26:36. | :26:40.
because this is your first, isn't it? That's right. Do you have to | :26:41. | :26:45.
talk through it? I mainly have to put up with his jokes. | :26:46. | :26:49.
CHUCKLES It is a very chatty hour and a half. | :26:50. | :26:52.
LAUGHTER And you are running for a charity? | :26:53. | :26:58.
This is an awesome charity that gives money to parents of terminally | :26:59. | :27:01.
ill children so they can do nice things with them. It is lovely. The | :27:02. | :27:06.
best of luck to both of you. Thanks very much. Some truly great stories, | :27:07. | :27:15.
some great couples, and some great amounts of money raised. This | :27:16. | :27:18.
morning the wheelchair race took place. At 9:43am it got underway. A | :27:19. | :27:26.
fantastic race it was, as well. The streets of Glasgow packed with | :27:27. | :27:29.
supporters cheering them along the way. Add a couple of other Olympic | :27:30. | :27:37.
heroes starting the ten kilometre race earlier this morning, as well. | :27:38. | :27:42.
Again, that was just before 10am this morning. We will start the half | :27:43. | :27:50.
marathon very soon. These guys have been raising money over the years | :27:51. | :27:52.
and doing incredibly well in Glasgow. I am delighted to say that | :27:53. | :27:58.
I'm joined by a Commonwealth champion, Charlie Flynn. Charlie, | :27:59. | :28:01.
good to have you here at the Great Scottish Run. Not taking part | :28:02. | :28:04.
because you have a dodgy leg. That's right, I'm not running the day. I | :28:05. | :28:13.
have fractured my foot. What happened? I was out running, and I | :28:14. | :28:17.
just fractured my ankle. And a pothole. That was it. Tough going if | :28:18. | :28:23.
you are a boxer because you need to get up on your toes. I take it that | :28:24. | :28:27.
has put the boxing career on the back foot. I was meant to be | :28:28. | :28:30.
fighting this week coming. With Ricky Barnes in the Hydro. It was my | :28:31. | :28:36.
first title shot. It was a big kick for me. But it happens, injuries, so | :28:37. | :28:41.
I just roll with the punches and get on with it. Absolutely. Today you | :28:42. | :28:47.
are not running. You will be here to start the half marathon. I know | :28:48. | :28:50.
you've been talking to a lot of people come hearing some stories | :28:51. | :28:53.
about people overcoming all sorts of things to take part in a race like | :28:54. | :28:59.
this. It is inspirational, is it not? It is great to see. There is a | :29:00. | :29:03.
guy down there come he is running, I think he has broken his arm, he is | :29:04. | :29:07.
running, do you know what I mean? It is good to see people enthusiastic | :29:08. | :29:11.
and having fun in sport. Everybody is buzzing. It is brilliant to see. | :29:12. | :29:18.
It is. But it is a tough weekend for boxing. On Friday night Michael | :29:19. | :29:23.
Towle was taking part in a bout in Glasgow and sadly he lost his life. | :29:24. | :29:30.
-- Michael Towell. It is a tragic thing to happen in sport, but in | :29:31. | :29:34.
your sport I imagine it is tough to take. It is tough to see. It is | :29:35. | :29:39.
upsetting. Every box around the world, when you hear something like | :29:40. | :29:43.
that, it is heartbreaking. You know how much effort and time they put | :29:44. | :29:47.
into the sport. And it is just heartbreaking to see it happen in | :29:48. | :29:53.
any sport. Such a tragedy in boxing. It never happens, ever, do you know | :29:54. | :29:58.
what I mean? Disaster. A terrible story. It is good to see you. | :29:59. | :30:02.
Hopefully you will be back fighting fit, get that foot sorted. Cheers, | :30:03. | :30:08.
man, thanks. Let him another inspirational story, another fellow | :30:09. | :30:11.
taking part in the Great Scottish Run today. | :30:12. | :30:15.
My name is John and this is my run. I joined the army when I was 16. I | :30:16. | :30:22.
was a junior soldier and since then I have pretty much spent 24 years in | :30:23. | :30:26.
the army. My claim to fame, back then was I | :30:27. | :30:31.
was the youngest soldier in the first guff war, aged 17 and three | :30:32. | :30:36.
months. I suffered a stroke in early 90, didn't know it was a stroke, | :30:37. | :30:44.
funnily enough. Just recently, I suffered a second stroke, which was | :30:45. | :30:47.
the result of a hole in my heart. After the second stroke I was at the | :30:48. | :30:53.
prime of my career. I left obviously through medical reason, I was | :30:54. | :30:58.
medically discharge add few years ago, until then I started to get | :30:59. | :31:02.
back in to running and fitness. It has knocked me back, certainly, | :31:03. | :31:07.
knocked me back in terms of my own fitness and wellbeing. You know, but | :31:08. | :31:10.
however it has made me realise there is is a lot more to life than just | :31:11. | :31:17.
being negative all the time. There was a time in my life, that | :31:18. | :31:22.
gap where I was stuck in a void, you couldn't see any way out of it. | :31:23. | :31:27.
Overcoming the psychological barriers of the stroke and the | :31:28. | :31:30.
freedom of being out and running, and the fact I can do it again, you | :31:31. | :31:34.
know, so just that initial, I can't do it any more, actually I can, I | :31:35. | :31:39.
have just accepted it and moved on. I am never going to look back, it is | :31:40. | :31:42.
all about moving forward. John Owens, a great story, we wish | :31:43. | :31:58.
him all the best today. Here go, almost 15,000 people on the streets | :31:59. | :32:01.
of Glasgow are just about to go out there and start to take part in the | :32:02. | :32:07.
Great Scottish Run. They are challenging themselves, raising | :32:08. | :32:11.
thousands pleasure charity, running pleasure mums, dads, uncles auntie, | :32:12. | :32:16.
you name it, everyone has their own reason pleasure being here. | :32:17. | :32:30.
Front of nose runners are the elite athletes and they are almost ready | :32:31. | :32:40.
to go. It is time to hand over to our commentators Liz McColgan | :32:41. | :32:43.
alongside Brendan foster and first, Rob Walker. | :32:44. | :32:49.
Thank you very muchment good morning, welcome to this great | :32:50. | :32:53.
celebration of Scottish sport, much: A celebration of one of the world's | :32:54. | :32:59.
friend least cities, two top quality elite races to come here, 30,000 | :33:00. | :33:04.
people taking part in this festival of distance running, all across the | :33:05. | :33:11.
entire weekend. And we have great Scottish hopes in this men's race. | :33:12. | :33:18.
There is Betsy Saina, fifth in that epic Rio 10,000 metre Olympic final. | :33:19. | :33:25.
Chris Thompson, Brendan and saw any more the hotel. He is confident. | :33:26. | :33:31.
Relaxed. He is a European silver-medallist. Next, to a young | :33:32. | :33:39.
lady, Commonwealth silver in 2010. Second here 12 months ago, can she | :33:40. | :33:48.
go one better? Doris Changeiywo. And the double Commonwealth champion | :33:49. | :33:52.
over 10,000 metres, says she 50% fit. Judging by that smile I reckon | :33:53. | :33:58.
it is more like 80 or 90. Moses Kipsiro. | :33:59. | :34:04.
And what a great location to the female line up, pleasure this race, | :34:05. | :34:09.
she got a brilliant silver in Beijing last year, in the marathon, | :34:10. | :34:16.
Kiprop. She is the fourth fastest marathon runner this year. | :34:17. | :34:23.
And what a 12 months it has been pleasure Scotland's Callum Hawkins. | :34:24. | :34:27.
Eighth in London, beat the reigning world record holder, ninth in Rio, | :34:28. | :34:33.
can he secure Scotland's first victory in this event in the men's | :34:34. | :34:40.
field? Here we go then, 10s of thousands ready pleasure their | :34:41. | :34:45.
adventure and journey through the streets of Glasgow, they will be | :34:46. | :34:50.
roared on every step of the way. The 37th edition of the Great Scottish | :34:51. | :34:57.
Run is about to get going. On your marks... What a great sight | :34:58. | :35:13.
and what a great sound. This event has grown from strength to strength, | :35:14. | :35:19.
over the years. It will take some of them two-and-a-half, maybe even | :35:20. | :35:23.
three hour, but that doesn't matter. Brendan, this is what great distance | :35:24. | :35:27.
running is about, of course we are interested in the two brilliant | :35:28. | :35:30.
elite fields going pleasure glory at the front, but we are also | :35:31. | :35:34.
interested in the masses, those who will take a little longer than the | :35:35. | :35:39.
athletes going pleasure glory to get round this great, great course. | :35:40. | :35:44.
Well, old fashioned sport used to be about people standing on the | :35:45. | :35:48.
sidelines, and watching. Nowadays it is about having top class sports men | :35:49. | :35:54.
participating with ordinary people. Ordinary people, doing extraordinary | :35:55. | :35:57.
things if you look at the start, the start is narrowed so they come | :35:58. | :36:01.
through slowly, when they come through the start line it opens up. | :36:02. | :36:05.
They have places to run, paces to run and the idea is every one has a | :36:06. | :36:10.
journey they can remember and talk about, I think, they can measures do | :36:11. | :36:15.
pleasure their own reason, they can do pleasure supportinger people, | :36:16. | :36:17.
that do it pleasure charity, a lot do it pleasure both, pleasure | :36:18. | :36:21.
charity an pleasure themselves, and you lock at them coming through the | :36:22. | :36:25.
line, watching, checking their watches, making sure they know | :36:26. | :36:29.
exactly what they are doing, as we look up the road there, the climb, | :36:30. | :36:36.
the start of St Vincent Street. You can see them climbing. It is down to | :36:37. | :36:41.
the river after that, and a lot of course takes place along the banks | :36:42. | :36:47.
of the River Clyde. Yes, they will take in some of | :36:48. | :36:55.
Glasgow's most fabulous landmarks. There will be great support all | :36:56. | :36:59.
round the course here, just got a glimpse of Harvey, the mascot going | :37:00. | :37:03.
pleasure the half marathon record, we will keep you posted on how he | :37:04. | :37:08.
goes. Moses Kipsiro, he wears number one and how refreshing that we have | :37:09. | :37:13.
a genuinely world class Scottish distance runner who has a chance of | :37:14. | :37:17.
winning this race. I thought he ran with such confidence in the Olympic | :37:18. | :37:27.
marathon, even heading the Eliud Kipchoge round the half way stage. | :37:28. | :37:32.
Callum Hawkins is a big talent, he is a developing talent, he could be | :37:33. | :37:36.
a big name pleasure the future, if Moses Kipsiro is beneath 100%, I don | :37:37. | :37:43.
believe he down at 50 by the way, but certainly, Callum Hawkins has a | :37:44. | :37:46.
great opportunity to do something special here. 12 months on. So, a | :37:47. | :38:00.
brilliant course here. Start up St Vincent Street. Then down over the | :38:01. | :38:10.
Clyde, over Kingston Bridge. Then snaking their way out towards Pollok | :38:11. | :38:17.
Park. City's biggest park, home to Burrell Collection. High land | :38:18. | :38:25.
cattle, a mountain bike circuit. Then up through Bellahouston Park. | :38:26. | :38:29.
Past the House For an Art Lover, before making their way back to the | :38:30. | :38:33.
heart of the city. Coming back across the Squinty Bridge. See some | :38:34. | :38:38.
great shots of that and then extra loop at the finish, who will be | :38:39. | :38:42.
coming home to the applause of the crowd? Well, certainly those | :38:43. | :38:48.
gathered will be hoping it is Callum Hawkins, but a long, long way to go. | :38:49. | :38:53.
There is the mascot, just front left there. His journey will take a lot | :38:54. | :38:59.
longer than the elites here. We were talking about having a great race, | :39:00. | :39:04.
Scotland, and other athletes from Great Britain, Chris Thompson | :39:05. | :39:10.
against the best of Uganda and it is Callum Hawkins, alongside Chris | :39:11. | :39:19.
Thompson. And Tewelde, who stayed? Scotland in 2008. Moses Kipsiro, the | :39:20. | :39:25.
defending champion here in Glasgow, on the right of frame. Also, just at | :39:26. | :39:32.
the back of that group Joel who was fourth in the Brighton marathon in | :39:33. | :39:40.
2:11.51. He is obscured by Chris Timpson, there is a declaration of | :39:41. | :39:43.
intent here, we have six athletes away and clear from the rest of the | :39:44. | :39:47.
field. They have gone through the first | :39:48. | :39:54.
mile there. The elite athletes, Chris Thompson the red vest, his | :39:55. | :39:58.
career at the same time as Mo Farah in the early days and sadly over the | :39:59. | :40:03.
year, Chris has battled with injuries but he has contained | :40:04. | :40:05.
himself, he has come back with renewed confidence. He is running | :40:06. | :40:08.
well at the moment and he is looking forward to this race, but next to | :40:09. | :40:13.
him in the black vest, Callum Hawkins. Callum is really intent on | :40:14. | :40:18.
this one today. What a glorious performance, what a terrific time he | :40:19. | :40:22.
had in Rio, what a pleasure it was to see Callum Hawkins finishing | :40:23. | :40:26.
second in this race last year, and then move Tong world class, when he | :40:27. | :40:30.
led the Olympic field through the half way point, ran an exceptional | :40:31. | :40:36.
run, finishing seventh in the Olympic Games and I think this young | :40:37. | :40:40.
man has a great feature ahead of im. He is next to athletes who have won | :40:41. | :40:46.
medals in major championships on the track. Moses Kipsiro, winning the | :40:47. | :40:52.
10,000 metres in Glasgow. There Betsy Saina, of Kenya, a small | :40:53. | :40:56.
figure who ran a phenomenal race in that credible race, in the women's | :40:57. | :41:02.
10 thousand metre, the world record went and Betsy Saina finishing just | :41:03. | :41:06.
over 30 minute, one of the fastest 10,000 metres of all time. She is | :41:07. | :41:11.
keen to step up to the marathon, she says her route from the 10,000 | :41:12. | :41:14.
metres on the track to the marathon is going to include a haar marathon | :41:15. | :41:19.
and today this is her chance. 10,000 metres in Rio. World record race, | :41:20. | :41:25.
world record performance. And her in fifth place. Here she is today, | :41:26. | :41:30.
trying to show that her feature, lies at the marathon. Really was a | :41:31. | :41:37.
brilliant performance from all of the women who finished in the top | :41:38. | :41:46.
ten, in Rio. That extraordinary first gold of the games, Almaz Ayana | :41:47. | :41:50.
with that world record. Betsy Saina has laid down her early marker here. | :41:51. | :41:53.
She has been there or thereabout, she was seventh at the world indoors | :41:54. | :41:59.
earlier this year. 3,000 metre, was in the top eight, Beijing last year. | :42:00. | :42:06.
But this as Brendan says could be the beginning of an exciting | :42:07. | :42:10.
journey. Back with the men, it was 4.45 pleasure that opening mile. So | :42:11. | :42:15.
round about 62 minute, so sensible pacing. And we have the two adopted | :42:16. | :42:20.
Scots in that group. Alongside Callum Hawkins. We heard the very | :42:21. | :42:28.
moving story about Tewelde who was injured in a landmine accident back | :42:29. | :42:33.
home and came back to full health and fitness, finished in the top 20 | :42:34. | :42:41.
of the world junior cross-country. We from another runner wearing | :42:42. | :42:46.
eight. Tewelde there just front and left, and Callum Hawkins just had a | :42:47. | :42:51.
look over his shoulder there, almost as if to say, come on guys, don't | :42:52. | :42:55.
trip my heels but it's a sensible pace here. The great thing is from a | :42:56. | :42:59.
story perspective, all of the big names that we would expect to be at | :43:00. | :43:03.
the front are there, they are running sensibly, they are running | :43:04. | :43:07.
within themselves and that this has the make ocean a great race. A great | :43:08. | :43:11.
performance already. Liz McColgan has run, almost run from the start | :43:12. | :43:15.
line there, she has joined us at the finish. Our pleasure to welcome Liz, | :43:16. | :43:19.
you are in good form this morning at the start. Now you are at the finish | :43:20. | :43:24.
watching the real action. Yes, glad to be here and it is great to see | :43:25. | :43:28.
the British boys up there trying to push the pace with the Kenyans and | :43:29. | :43:32.
the Ugandan, so it is looking like it will be an interesting race. Liz, | :43:33. | :43:39.
just as we look at Betsy Saina, as you indicate a at the beginning she | :43:40. | :43:43.
has a real opportunity to do something special as a result of | :43:44. | :43:48.
running just outside 30 minutes, pleasure that extraordinary 10,000 | :43:49. | :43:52.
metres in Rio, it could be the beginning of a great career on the | :43:53. | :43:56.
roads. She has no real back ground in road running, she came from the | :43:57. | :44:01.
track, she has not moved away yet. She will be doing World | :44:02. | :44:06.
Championships at 10,000 metres and there is a massive difference. | :44:07. | :44:10.
Pleasure me I think she is a classy runner and I think she will run a | :44:11. | :44:13.
fairly quick time on this course. Liz, as we look that the group | :44:14. | :44:17.
there. She is in a good position. She can fix on the men, help herself | :44:18. | :44:25.
along, it is an advantage to have a pacemaker. That 10 thousand metres | :44:26. | :44:31.
in Rio. Almaz Ayana shattering that world record. What was your view? | :44:32. | :44:37.
It was amazing. When I ran the Chinese break the record. To see | :44:38. | :44:45.
that she was 100 metres ahead of the Chinese girls blew me away. I am a | :44:46. | :44:51.
stickler for drug testing. Ethiopian do not follow the procedures. I | :44:52. | :44:57.
don't think it should be designed defined as a world record, but that | :44:58. | :45:03.
is my view. -- I don't think it should be defined as. I think it was | :45:04. | :45:08.
the fastest ever ten kilometre run on the track for, you know... For, | :45:09. | :45:17.
what was it, 31 minutes? When you looked at the personal bests all the | :45:18. | :45:22.
way down the field, 12, 13, 14, they were all registering personal bests. | :45:23. | :45:31.
It looks as though he is struggling with the pace a fraction. A lifetime | :45:32. | :45:36.
best, inside 30 minutes, a third Olympic medal for her, and it was | :45:37. | :45:40.
the bronze this time. To emulate the double gold and bronze. Even getting | :45:41. | :45:48.
third was an amazing performance. It was and she came back from | :45:49. | :45:51.
pregnancy. It was her first race after having her child, so it was a | :45:52. | :46:01.
great performance. Descending on that motorway section. One of | :46:02. | :46:10.
Britain's representatives in the marathon, three Scots representing | :46:11. | :46:13.
Britain, Callum Hawkins and his brother Derek. And look at him... | :46:14. | :46:27.
Just using a few -- losing a few yards. He cannot let them go away | :46:28. | :46:36.
that early, Tewelde. He was our representative in Rio. His other | :46:37. | :46:47.
compatriot, at the back of that group of four. The men's race has | :46:48. | :46:50.
developed early. Callum Hawkins will enjoy this journey at the moment | :46:51. | :46:55.
because he is getting good support and he deserves it. Yes, he's been | :46:56. | :47:00.
running well. But great to see Thompson up front. He has been | :47:01. | :47:08.
inconsistent. That is the way the sport is, Chris Thompson has had | :47:09. | :47:11.
major injuries and he has never developed to his potential. | :47:12. | :47:14.
Hopefully we will see him in the marathon in London. Good point. His | :47:15. | :47:24.
achievements have almost been forgotten as the bit in light of the | :47:25. | :47:29.
great performances of Mo Farah over the years. I feel he has a point to | :47:30. | :47:38.
prove. He is looking strong. He is a good-looking athlete. He is strong | :47:39. | :47:42.
and he is upright. It is a nice style. Real class from Chris | :47:43. | :47:46.
Thompson. He will be pleased at the moment he is leading this sort of | :47:47. | :47:53.
Arrow of five athletes. Tewelde Is struggling. He dropped out of the | :47:54. | :47:59.
Rio marathon with sore feet. It was only a few weeks ago when he ran a | :48:00. | :48:03.
fair distance in brutal conditions. Perhaps it is understandable that | :48:04. | :48:06.
his battle for glory seems to be over. He has had a bad injury to his | :48:07. | :48:11.
Achilles heel. Recovery from that will be sore. We have seen a great | :48:12. | :48:20.
start from Betsy Saina. Helah Kiprop got that fabulous silver medal in | :48:21. | :48:23.
the World Championship marathon last year. She dropped out of the Olympic | :48:24. | :48:28.
marathon. She ran most of the race, she dropped out between 35 and 40 | :48:29. | :48:34.
with breathing issues. Doris Changeiywo, just the right of the | :48:35. | :48:37.
picture, last year's runner-up behind the fantastic Edna Kiplagat. | :48:38. | :48:54.
We have a little drive. Moses Kipsiro driving up the pace. Chris | :48:55. | :48:58.
Thompson was at the front of that quintet of athletes. He is happy to | :48:59. | :49:03.
drop behind the two East Africans. Moses Kipsiro on the right. And | :49:04. | :49:09.
Joel, who ran so well in Brighton this year, he is just ahead of Moses | :49:10. | :49:15.
Kipsiro. I certainly don't buy the fact he is 50% fit. There was a | :49:16. | :49:18.
twinkle in his eye on the start line. Nobody lines up for a race at | :49:19. | :49:27.
50% fit, surely? He said 50%, and then he said he would win the race. | :49:28. | :49:31.
He is in preparation for the New York Marathon. He probably won't be | :49:32. | :49:39.
as fit as he has been in the past. But he will be fit enough to go out | :49:40. | :49:48.
there and run 62 minutes. We have heard your thoughts on that amazing | :49:49. | :49:56.
10,000 metres last month in Rio with the record set by Ayana. Callum | :49:57. | :50:07.
Hawkins, and the evidence of what he produced in Rio, is not 1 million | :50:08. | :50:10.
miles away from being a major medal contender for the marathon. I | :50:11. | :50:14.
thought it was a brilliant run. Callum Hawkins is an exciting | :50:15. | :50:18.
runner. I have known him since he was a young lad. In 2006 he ran in | :50:19. | :50:23.
the junior squad. It was put together. He has matured all the way | :50:24. | :50:28.
through. He has had result as a junior. He is fulfilling his | :50:29. | :50:33.
potential. This is his distance. He has the right mix. He is mentally | :50:34. | :50:37.
strong, which makes him different from a lot of the other British | :50:38. | :50:40.
guys. I think this race is starting to get interesting now. The young | :50:41. | :50:50.
Kenyan keeps testing them. He seems to be able to move into contention | :50:51. | :50:55.
quite quickly. Callum Hawkins is being asked some questions. Closing | :50:56. | :50:58.
it down quite neatly. But that last mile, four minutes 39 seconds, and | :50:59. | :51:06.
that is quick. Again, Chris Thompson, who is running pretty | :51:07. | :51:10.
well, realises that four minutes 39 seconds is a bit too quick for him. | :51:11. | :51:14.
He has let it go, relaxed a little, and now moving back to the lead. The | :51:15. | :51:21.
two African athletes run in bursts. That can be demanding. You have got | :51:22. | :51:25.
to be smart, clever and confident to allow those little bursts to get a | :51:26. | :51:30.
few yards away from you, but then settle down and come back gradually. | :51:31. | :51:34.
It is better to move gradually than go in bursts. Definitely. And it | :51:35. | :51:38.
also helps to know the course. That smile is slightly downhill. Callum | :51:39. | :51:43.
Hawkins has run this a couple of times. He knows about it. He held | :51:44. | :51:48.
back, he opened up a little bit, now he is back on it again. That is | :51:49. | :51:52.
best, keep consistency in your running, that is what he is doing. | :51:53. | :51:59.
Yeah, Chris Thompson, felt as though perhaps he started a little bit too | :52:00. | :52:06.
quickly in this year's Great North Run. But he is looking comfortable | :52:07. | :52:13.
behind Callum Hawkins. Between Moses Kipsiro and Kimutai. We did have sex | :52:14. | :52:28.
in this group -- we did have six in this group. Tewelde Has now become | :52:29. | :52:36.
detached in fifth place. We are really gearing up to a fascinating | :52:37. | :52:42.
race with two Britons and two East Africans upfront. The question will | :52:43. | :52:46.
be how dominant will Callum Hawkins be? Or will we see Moses Kipsiro and | :52:47. | :52:54.
Kimutai probing off the front and testing for weaknesses? Callum | :52:55. | :53:00.
Hawkins is a smart racer. He would like one pace. That is why he got | :53:01. | :53:08.
ninth position in the Olympics. He keeps a good pace. He ran smartly. | :53:09. | :53:13.
He is doing it again. Concentrating on what he is doing. He has his race | :53:14. | :53:22.
plan. He just goes off and delivers. Betsy Saina running really well in | :53:23. | :53:25.
this women's race. She has a sizeable lead in the early stages. | :53:26. | :53:31.
Just remind ourselves, she has only run one half marathon, it was in | :53:32. | :53:36.
Boston a couple of years ago. She is coming here with huge confidence and | :53:37. | :53:43.
fabulous track speed in her legs. She has made the best use of her | :53:44. | :53:47.
time since Rio, she has had a little bit of rest, so she will be | :53:48. | :53:51.
difficult to beat. I think she is in the kind of shape to test the course | :53:52. | :53:55.
record today. That will be interesting to see, just how she | :53:56. | :53:59.
goes later on in the race. Just on that very point, we've just had the | :54:00. | :54:04.
statistics through for the first five kilometres. 60 minutes six | :54:05. | :54:09.
seconds. She is on course for about 70 minutes and 30 seconds. That is a | :54:10. | :54:13.
good pace and she is setting down the early marker. -- 16 minutes and | :54:14. | :54:20.
six seconds. A cracking first five kilometres from the women. And the | :54:21. | :54:29.
men, also getting towards the five kilometre point. We will give you | :54:30. | :54:33.
the splits very shortly. But look at this, once again, a little probe off | :54:34. | :54:40.
the front. Kimutai, very high neck lift. Callum Hawkins looks nice and | :54:41. | :54:45.
steady in second in front of Moses Kipsiro. If you more metres have | :54:46. | :54:50.
grown between them and Chris Thompson. -- a few more. It could be | :54:51. | :54:56.
that Chris has decided that this extra injection of pace is not to | :54:57. | :55:00.
his liking and he wants to go more conservatively. Or it could be an | :55:01. | :55:03.
indication that he is starting to struggle. I don't think Chris is in | :55:04. | :55:09.
the shape he was a few years ago. He had an Achilles operation last year. | :55:10. | :55:13.
He has struggled to get to that. He is a sub 28 minute ten kilometres | :55:14. | :55:18.
run, but he is nowhere near that. It'll be interesting to see how he | :55:19. | :55:24.
gets the strength back that he used to have as he runs more miles. But I | :55:25. | :55:28.
don't think he is in the shape for it today, that's for sure. And it is | :55:29. | :55:34.
around a 62 plus change race at the moment. If he is at his best he | :55:35. | :55:40.
would be up with the leaders. One by one they have begun to drop off the | :55:41. | :55:47.
pace. Kimutai Is leading. He has a very high new left and low stride. | :55:48. | :55:53.
Callum Hawkins is steady and relaxed in second place alongside Moses | :55:54. | :55:57.
Kipsiro. That was the 12-macro last year with the other way round, Moses | :55:58. | :56:02.
Kipsiro finishing ahead of Callum Hawkins. -- that was the 1-2 last | :56:03. | :56:12.
year, but the other way around. It would be a wonderful story if you | :56:13. | :56:16.
won it, and a cracking end to his season if he was able to finish it | :56:17. | :56:23.
off, Callum Hawkins. This is a slight downhill, so quite quick. | :56:24. | :56:26.
Callum Hawkins knows the course. He will be pacing it to what is best | :56:27. | :56:31.
for him. It is a bit too early for the Kenyan is to be pushing it and. | :56:32. | :56:37.
Still a lot of race to go. -- pushing it on. A couple of miles | :56:38. | :56:47.
inside the park. Callum Hawkins knows his way around the course. | :56:48. | :56:55.
This race is getting going. We are in the early stages. It is a bit | :56:56. | :56:59.
premature to talk about the first Scottish winner. But at the end of | :57:00. | :57:02.
the day there are a couple of athletes who are determined and they | :57:03. | :57:07.
are not from Scotland. One man carrying things, as he carried | :57:08. | :57:11.
things so well as we saw him run a fantastic race in Rio. The | :57:12. | :57:18.
confidence and athlete gets -- the confidence that an athlete gets from | :57:19. | :57:22.
racing in the Olympics. Since last year, Callum Hawkins finished second | :57:23. | :57:27.
here, he went on to qualify for the Olympic Games, did a fantastic | :57:28. | :57:32.
performance at the Olympic Games, and that is why his career kicked | :57:33. | :57:36.
off. This park was voted the best park in Europe. If you spend any | :57:37. | :57:41.
time in Glasgow, you will know that this park is cute and recreationally | :57:42. | :57:46.
is brilliant. Lots of facilities in there. The people of Glasgow use | :57:47. | :57:51.
this park to their advantage. We have a race going on in the park. | :57:52. | :57:54.
Callum Hawkins is competing there now. You were touching on this in | :57:55. | :58:03.
your chat before the race began, Liz. A brilliant group of Scottish | :58:04. | :58:07.
athletes forming part of the British team in Rio. From the female | :58:08. | :58:11.
perspective, Lindsey Sharp in the final of the 800, nine times inside | :58:12. | :58:19.
two minutes this year. Laura, three minutes and 57 seconds in the | :58:20. | :58:25.
diamond league, winning the race in Paris for the 1500 metres. Eilidh | :58:26. | :58:36.
Did the lead late in the relay, so it is a great crop of young Scottish | :58:37. | :58:44.
athletes at the moment. -- lead leg. When these kids were 13, 14, they | :58:45. | :58:49.
were identified as part of the Scotland squad. They have developed | :58:50. | :58:54.
since 2006. It is fantastic to see. It is a site for me to see because I | :58:55. | :58:59.
have known them so long. It is great that they have fulfilled the | :59:00. | :59:02.
potential that was identified ten years ago will stop it just shows | :59:03. | :59:08.
that if you have investment indeed you get results at the end of the | :59:09. | :59:12.
day. -- ten years ago. It was great to see so many spots on that team. | :59:13. | :59:18.
In Callum Hawkins. In Chris Thompson has dropped off the back of that | :59:19. | :59:25.
leading trio. There is an interesting sub plot moving fade. It | :59:26. | :59:29.
is not just about whether Callum Hawkins with beat the double | :59:30. | :59:34.
Commonwealth champion Moses Kipsiro, we will keep here and eye on the | :59:35. | :59:43.
clock, we has an eye on the Scottish record set in the Great North Run | :59:44. | :59:47.
back in 1987. There is a bit of history on the table if Callum | :59:48. | :59:53.
Hawkins can keep his pace going. Meanwhile Betsy Saina, she had a | :59:54. | :59:59.
lead of 39 seconds over Helah Kiprop at the Ak split. She is dropping one | :00:00. | :00:06.
or two classy male athletes who have been operating at accidental | :00:07. | :00:09.
pacemakers pleasure her, she is going really well. It was 16.07 at 5 | :00:10. | :00:23.
k, that is on gours a new course record superseding that set by Edna | :00:24. | :00:30.
Kiplagat. Course records, the Scottish champions we wait and see, | :00:31. | :00:33.
the second half of a half marathon is where the medals are given out | :00:34. | :00:39.
and where the details are, appear, Betsy Saina is certainly the class | :00:40. | :00:43.
athlete of this women's field, and he is running strongly now, she is | :00:44. | :00:47.
running like she ran on the track, just over 30 minutes pleasure 10,000 | :00:48. | :00:52.
metre, when we think about it Paula Radcliffe's British record was just | :00:53. | :00:55.
over 30 minutes as well. So we are talking about the highest class and | :00:56. | :00:59.
we look at the men's race, and there we are looking at the high class of | :01:00. | :01:02.
Callum Hawkins, now, just contending there, just happy to share the pace, | :01:03. | :01:07.
happy to share the lead and the means race there, we can see three | :01:08. | :01:13.
of them. The women's race we are looking at one athlete running as | :01:14. | :01:19.
fast as she can. Beautiful place to run. And a great | :01:20. | :01:25.
place to race as well. Brendan mentioned Pollok Park, the | :01:26. | :01:29.
city's largest park, home to the Burrell Collection. Global artwork | :01:30. | :01:34.
can be viewed. Cracking place pleasure day out if you do come to | :01:35. | :01:38.
Glasgow, mountain bike circuit as you can see high land cattle as | :01:39. | :01:42.
well. But none of that will be of any interest to these athletes right | :01:43. | :01:49.
now. Maybe Kipsiro just having to answer a couple of questions here, | :01:50. | :01:52.
he had a disappointing run in Hamburg earlier this year, that | :01:53. | :01:57.
result of two hours 14 can be a bit misleading because he was suffering | :01:58. | :02:01.
with malaria, went through half way the leaders in 62 plus and ran 72 | :02:02. | :02:04.
minutes for the second half of the race, so he looks as though he is | :02:05. | :02:08.
over that malaria and he is brilliant and you know, we think | :02:09. | :02:11.
back to the great performances, what a story it was pleasure him, Liz in | :02:12. | :02:17.
the, that fabulous stadium here inner the Commonwealth Games when he | :02:18. | :02:21.
defended his title by just 3 hundredth of a second. When gets it | :02:22. | :02:26.
right he is brilliant, Kipsiro. He has a lot of good track speed as | :02:27. | :02:31.
well. He transitioned into the marathon really good. I think if | :02:32. | :02:35.
Callum has any chance of beating it, it will be today. He had a little | :02:36. | :02:39.
problem with his ankle as well earlier on, so he isn't 100 percent, | :02:40. | :02:45.
but even him being 80% might be good enough to win today. | :02:46. | :02:51.
So second place in the women's race, we have been talking about the lead | :02:52. | :02:58.
of Betsy Saina. It is Helah Kiprop in second place, wearing 125. Fourth | :02:59. | :03:03.
fastest woman in in the world this year over the marathon. Long, loping | :03:04. | :03:09.
stride, disappointed dropping out of the marathon with Downing Streeting | :03:10. | :03:12.
-- breathing difficulties, she is a long way adrift in second place. | :03:13. | :03:17.
When she was going to Rio she was one of favourite, she won the Tokyo | :03:18. | :03:22.
marathon, going in there, Kenyan team obviously very strong team, | :03:23. | :03:27.
this lady was possibly one of the favourites and sadly wasn't able to | :03:28. | :03:33.
do it. Sheer the men now, Callum Hawkins, just letting them make | :03:34. | :03:36.
their move, relaxing, he is running confidently, that is the difference, | :03:37. | :03:40.
that is what I have seen in just over a year, I have seen Callum | :03:41. | :03:44.
Hawkins running in races with world class runners and being intimidated | :03:45. | :03:48.
by them, I am seeing him today, looking as though he has that extra | :03:49. | :03:51.
confidence, he has the ability. We know that, we have seen him do that, | :03:52. | :03:56.
there he is, head down, working hard, trying to make a few yards | :03:57. | :03:59.
pleasure change, he is challenging them and running well. He is running | :04:00. | :04:04.
really well, he is on personal best time as well at this moment in the | :04:05. | :04:08.
race. This is the hardest part of the course. It is kind of uphill. | :04:09. | :04:12.
You see them leaning in to pick the cadence up a bit. He has a great | :04:13. | :04:16.
opportunity here, he was only 10 seconds off the Scottish record this | :04:17. | :04:20.
year and I think he is in shape to run FAer this year, let us ho hope | :04:21. | :04:24.
the competition can push him and he can get that record. | :04:25. | :04:32.
29,18 going past the 10 k point and they are on course pleasure around | :04:33. | :04:37.
about 62, maybe a bit inside at the moment, so so far so good, as far as | :04:38. | :04:42.
Callum Hawkins is concerned. There is Tewoldebrhan Mengisteab. He is | :04:43. | :04:46.
just off the back of that group, behind Chris Thompson, who is | :04:47. | :04:49.
fourth, Chris Thompson is out of sight at moment. Just maybe visible | :04:50. | :04:55.
behind Moses Kipsiro. A long way back in fourth place, Chris | :04:56. | :04:58.
Thompson. But Callum Hawkins, going well at the moment. Looking relaxed, | :04:59. | :05:02.
looking confident, reminds me there was a great moment in the London | :05:03. | :05:17.
Marathon where he went past the reigning world record Dennis | :05:18. | :05:28.
Kimetto. The Scottish record 62.28. Beautiful day here in Glasgow, the | :05:29. | :05:33.
sun just penetrating the tree line there. Than head just goes down a | :05:34. | :05:39.
little bit and he is great to watch, Callum Hawkins, there is real | :05:40. | :05:43.
aggression in the way he run, he is not an intimidated athlete is he. I | :05:44. | :05:49.
just watched that, he has gone through 10 k in 29,18 which is about | :05:50. | :05:53.
28 seconds outside his personal best pleasure 10 k, that is one distance | :05:54. | :05:57.
he will revise his personal, the half way point, he is running almost | :05:58. | :06:01.
as fast as he has ever done before, so he is clearly in top form. When | :06:02. | :06:05.
you train pleasure the marathon, you do find that you get that extra | :06:06. | :06:10.
strength, and nine times out of ten your 10 k improves because you have | :06:11. | :06:14.
more strength to hold your top speed. With Callum now, he is | :06:15. | :06:21.
improving all over the distances now because he has that inner strength | :06:22. | :06:25.
from the mile, he is a very competitive guy and he has a really | :06:26. | :06:29.
good racing head on him pleasure his young age. I don't think this young | :06:30. | :06:36.
man Kipsiro. He said by Sunday it might be 80% fit. It looks as though | :06:37. | :06:41.
it is close to what it was last time. Callum Hawkins running | :06:42. | :06:45.
strongly and well in the black vest in second place, he puts his | :06:46. | :06:50.
suddenly puts his sunglasses up on the top of his head. He says it is | :06:51. | :06:54.
business time. I will have to run against this guy. This is the | :06:55. | :07:00.
Commonwealth champion, Moses Kipsiro, he won by inches in 2014. | :07:01. | :07:05.
Callum Hawkins, that the time was much more than a spectator. Last | :07:06. | :07:10.
year, he was intimidated by Kipsiro. He had seen him. There the beautiful | :07:11. | :07:16.
sight. You can see the mist lifting alongside the river. You can see the | :07:17. | :07:21.
sun shining there. You can see the second placed athlete Kiprop, | :07:22. | :07:25.
getting advice and encouragement from Bradford there, looks like the | :07:26. | :07:29.
Harriers vest. He is waving to the crowd. There is the leader Betsy | :07:30. | :07:33.
Saina running powerfully, running strong, she has got club athletes, | :07:34. | :07:38.
Walker, I don't know which club she from, he is there a few yards ahead. | :07:39. | :07:42.
She has been tracking hum pleasure most of the way. You can tell by her | :07:43. | :07:47.
cadence, intensity she is running to try and run a personal best. It is | :07:48. | :07:55.
going to catapult her up into the world rankings, She has only just | :07:56. | :08:00.
broke 69 two years ago, she is a classier lady than that, she is the | :08:01. | :08:03.
type of runner that could on a really flat course probably run | :08:04. | :08:09.
close to 65.30. I was just watching Jack Walker, the | :08:10. | :08:15.
unofficial pace make earthquake he got his moment of fame there. Former | :08:16. | :08:22.
Scottish indoor champion over 8 hundred metres eSaina had good | :08:23. | :08:28.
athletes to chase. The shades go back down over the eyes of Callum | :08:29. | :08:32.
Hawkins. There was a move from Kipsiro when we last saw them, that | :08:33. | :08:38.
the stage, after they had gone up an incline Kimutai allowed a few metres | :08:39. | :08:43.
to grow between Callum Hawkins, once again the trio are reunited, as they | :08:44. | :08:47.
begin to think about the second half of the race, they have done most of | :08:48. | :08:53.
their work in Pollok Park and they think about moving to Bellahouston | :08:54. | :08:56.
Park, towards that House For an Art Lover, and this is a really | :08:57. | :09:01.
intriguing race to watch, through athletes at different stages of | :09:02. | :09:05.
their career with different strengths and weaknesses. Three of | :09:06. | :09:10.
them separated by just a single metre, and this has the makings of a | :09:11. | :09:15.
really really fascinating second half of this distance race as Callum | :09:16. | :09:19.
Hawkins just on right of frame there, never afraid to take it to | :09:20. | :09:24.
the east Africans. What a battle in prospect in the second half of the | :09:25. | :09:27.
race. We are only just past the half way point. We still from the the | :09:28. | :09:33.
three athlete there's in the line. Kimutai has pushed it on, dropped | :09:34. | :09:37.
off pleasure a little while. Kipsiro has tried to have a go. Now into the | :09:38. | :09:42.
serious and the deep end of the race Callum Hawkins is not intimidated at | :09:43. | :09:47.
all this time. The athlete who has improved so much physically and I | :09:48. | :09:49.
think even more mentally, because he looks like an athlete who is meant | :09:50. | :09:54.
to be among the talented other runners. Kipsiro, the Commonwealth | :09:55. | :09:58.
champion. The great Birmingham winner Kimutai from 2014. Next to | :09:59. | :10:02.
him in the yellow Vettel and there we are looking at the heard from the | :10:03. | :10:06.
women's race. I think she is running a really good time. 32 minutes for | :10:07. | :10:11.
the first 10 k, that is impressive. She is nearly two minutes ahead of a | :10:12. | :10:17.
class feel, Doris Changeiywo will potter. There is Betsy Saina. I | :10:18. | :10:26.
think there is another athlete in Kiprop, but there, there we are | :10:27. | :10:30.
looking at Saina, running powerfully, on her own now, her | :10:31. | :10:36.
against the distance. Betsy Saina looking good after the 10 k point, a | :10:37. | :10:41.
long way to go, but at the moment, she is running well inside 68 minute | :10:42. | :10:46.
pace so it is possible that we may see a new course record, but a long | :10:47. | :10:51.
way to go. She still has seven miles to contend with, she has a massive | :10:52. | :10:56.
lead, so a different dynamic, the women's race is a solo leader, Betsy | :10:57. | :11:00.
Saina, in the men's race we still have the three at hotels locked | :11:01. | :11:03.
together as they contemplate the second half of the race. | :11:04. | :11:18.
Callum Hawkins on the inside. And decided to take it on here. So much | :11:19. | :11:39.
confidence. He is looking really really comfortable. As Brendan was | :11:40. | :11:43.
saying he went through very aggressively through 10 k, not too | :11:44. | :11:49.
far behind his lifetime best and Moses Kipsiro realises, I think we | :11:50. | :11:55.
know now he is getting towards 100 percent shape as opposed to the 50 | :11:56. | :12:00.
he claimed. If he is to win pleasure a second year, he will have to do it | :12:01. | :12:05.
the hard way. Lids's father has been his coach pleasure a long time. His | :12:06. | :12:10.
brother Derek is a top athlete ran in the Olympic Games with him. They | :12:11. | :12:13.
will be excited about this. That is a great training group. They also | :12:14. | :12:19.
have a third brother in between both that is a good runner. His dad has | :12:20. | :12:25.
done a great job on coaching all three. Derek had a bit of a fracture | :12:26. | :12:29.
in his spine unfortunately going into Rio, he was lucky you go there | :12:30. | :12:34.
and finish, so great strength of character Togo and finish the race | :12:35. | :12:38.
but column has always been outstanding, he, you know, running | :12:39. | :12:42.
this race today, he knows that if he doesn't get away from the two | :12:43. | :12:47.
Kenyan, like within the last mile, they have a quicker 10 k than him. | :12:48. | :12:52.
That will be on his mind. That is why after eight miles he is pushing | :12:53. | :12:55.
the pace, because he is trying to win the race. You You have seen him | :12:56. | :13:01.
come through as a young man, has he always been an athlete, has he been | :13:02. | :13:06.
aggressive. Has he always tried to win races? He has been a guy that | :13:07. | :13:10.
knows how to run the best pleasure him, it might not be winning races | :13:11. | :13:13.
all the time, because you know, I think as a youngster you have to | :13:14. | :13:17.
grow into yourself and find out how you race and how you win, this has | :13:18. | :13:22.
done all the background work, he is in a place where he knows from | :13:23. | :13:25.
training what it takes pleasure him to run best from him. She is a very | :13:26. | :13:30.
individual runner. He doesn't care whatter people do. He works his race | :13:31. | :13:36.
plan with his dad and he delivers what the agreement is with his dad | :13:37. | :13:40.
and you have seen that with the way he is racing. He is not letting any | :13:41. | :13:44.
of the other two guys disrupt what his plan s and you know, they is | :13:45. | :13:48.
what this great character is and that is what excites me about him. | :13:49. | :13:52.
He is such an individual character, he is not cared to go up there and | :13:53. | :13:58.
push when he is supposed to He look like he is is trying to break away, | :13:59. | :14:04.
he is pushing hard. He could settle next to Kipsiro. So far, he hasn't, | :14:05. | :14:11.
Callum Hawkins hasn't got a title to his name. At that level. When you | :14:12. | :14:16.
get better and stronger and you get mentally stronger, that is when you | :14:17. | :14:19.
are able to compete and challenge people. Make them run the way you | :14:20. | :14:24.
want to run. There is a lady next to me who used to run like that. An | :14:25. | :14:29.
endurance runners were made not born. A sprinter is born. You have | :14:30. | :14:34.
your fast twitch. With an endurance runner you need to find people who | :14:35. | :14:39.
are sub born, a bit full of energy and you need years to develop them. | :14:40. | :14:44.
It does noment happen overnight. Callum has been running since 2006. | :14:45. | :14:47.
He has moved through all the age groups and shown investment in the | :14:48. | :14:52.
years is working. Well, we can see Betsy Saina running | :14:53. | :14:57.
strongly in the women's race, clear of the field, running powerfully, | :14:58. | :15:01.
looking like the athlete we saw run just outside 30 minutes for 10,000 | :15:02. | :15:05.
metres on the track. She looks impressive. She looks committed. She | :15:06. | :15:11.
is staring ahead, the road ahead and meanwhile in the men's race, it is | :15:12. | :15:14.
pretty serious, I think Callum Hawkins is making a bid to try and | :15:15. | :15:19.
get grey the others. There there is Callum Hawkins, making a few yards | :15:20. | :15:22.
on the chasing group nowment can he break them at this point. A long way | :15:23. | :15:28.
would be the way to do it. He has moved, and quickly got a little few | :15:29. | :15:33.
yards and is Kipsiro coming done pressure is now it looks to me as if | :15:34. | :15:36.
Callum Hawkins is making a serious effort. He split the group up. It is | :15:37. | :15:42.
down to two. Down last year's champion, Moses Kipsiro, an athlete | :15:43. | :15:46.
who is known well around the world. Commonwealth champion, won this race | :15:47. | :15:50.
last year, last yearical launch was second and now, he is going pleasure | :15:51. | :15:51.
the first time. You can tell what impact this new | :15:52. | :16:09.
pace has had. It looks like Moses Kipsiro is having to take in to stay | :16:10. | :16:15.
in Callum's shadow. And as they turn the corner you get the impression | :16:16. | :16:19.
that Joel Kimutai, really good marathon runner in his own right, | :16:20. | :16:22.
has become detached from the leading two. He is in the shadow of the | :16:23. | :16:28.
trees there. Callum Hawkins trying to wind it up. As you were saying, | :16:29. | :16:38.
Liz, he's an athlete with really intense mental strength. And that | :16:39. | :16:42.
could help here. He is not afraid of Moses Kipsiro. As we saw in the | :16:43. | :16:45.
Olympic marathon when he went to the front. He's not afraid of | :16:46. | :16:49.
reputations, not afraid to run his own race, and he's doing a great job | :16:50. | :16:52.
here trying to put himself in pole position. This is a really good | :16:53. | :16:56.
declaration of intent from the confident Scot. He is running his | :16:57. | :17:04.
best. He came into this race hoping to get near the record. We've not | :17:05. | :17:10.
had a British winner since 1993, so it would be fantastic to get one | :17:11. | :17:15.
today. You can just send it, the elastic band that ties them together | :17:16. | :17:19.
is being stretched a little by Callum Hawkins. But he's got to keep | :17:20. | :17:23.
going now. A beautiful shot with the shadow just ahead. Callan, chase | :17:24. | :17:26.
your shadow, that's the way to do it, get ahead of it, then you will | :17:27. | :17:31.
have a few more yards. Callum just needs a few more yards. We know how | :17:32. | :17:35.
powerful Moses Kipsiro can be in a finish. We know how powerful he will | :17:36. | :17:41.
be in the last mile. Here is the tenth mile, and here is Callum | :17:42. | :17:44.
Hawkins, and athlete who has grown in stature in every sense. In 12 | :17:45. | :17:49.
months, really, and there he is, avoiding the water station, just now | :17:50. | :17:54.
with a bit of a chance. Can he now when it went just over three miles | :17:55. | :17:58.
to go? There is still a lot of running to do. There is a class | :17:59. | :18:02.
athlete following him. He's getting ready to run a marathon, so I'm not | :18:03. | :18:07.
sure Moses Kipsiro will be worried about the distance. But a brave | :18:08. | :18:11.
effort by Callum Hawkins. Time will tell. No Scot has ever won this | :18:12. | :18:19.
race. Certainly as far as the men are concerned. Liz, of course, won | :18:20. | :18:26.
the women's race back in 1992. But this is what the future of British | :18:27. | :18:30.
and Scottish distance running needs to see. Young men who are not afraid | :18:31. | :18:37.
to take on the East Africans, as Liz proved 25 or so years ago. As Paula | :18:38. | :18:42.
Radcliffe proved at the turn of this century. The East African athletes | :18:43. | :18:46.
can be beaten, and the Europeans and western athletes should have the | :18:47. | :18:50.
belief that with the right training they can challenge the very best in | :18:51. | :18:56.
the world. Liz, this is so good to see, a Briton, European, a Scot | :18:57. | :19:00.
fighting against the classy East African. And equal to him. And maybe | :19:01. | :19:06.
even better than him today. Definitely. I've set the deer is | :19:07. | :19:09.
that there is no reason why a European cannot beat the canyons. -- | :19:10. | :19:15.
I have said this years ago. Callum took himself off his technology | :19:16. | :19:22.
programme which works for him. He has taken time to develop. He is | :19:23. | :19:28.
running really strong. I think he's not ready just yet, but another four | :19:29. | :19:34.
years you will see this guy may be attack the British land record. I | :19:35. | :19:38.
think he has the ability if he gets it right. That is the fastest mile, | :19:39. | :19:45.
the ninth mile, the fastest of the race, four minutes 21 seconds by | :19:46. | :19:49.
Callum Hawkins. But he has not broken the Ugandan. The Ugandan | :19:50. | :19:53.
champion, the Commonwealth champion, and there you see how quick he is | :19:54. | :19:57.
moving around the corner. Once again. And now the test is on for | :19:58. | :20:01.
Callum. He's made a huge effort. Four minutes and 21 seconds at this | :20:02. | :20:06.
stage of a half marathon, a formidable effort, but now what he | :20:07. | :20:11.
needs to do is just do one more time -- do it one more time. He has to | :20:12. | :20:16.
test Moses Kipsiro in the next few miles. You can see the athletes on | :20:17. | :20:20.
the one side, and the famous Ibrox Stadium in the background. Rangers | :20:21. | :20:23.
football club, back in the Scottish Premier League. Fantastic stadium | :20:24. | :20:31.
there, these days. They are a team and their way back. But there is | :20:32. | :20:37.
Callum Hawkins of Scotland. They will both be feeling that this is a | :20:38. | :20:43.
world-class pace. And it is a world-class effort from Callum | :20:44. | :20:46.
Hawkins. He knows he needs to try and drop the defending champion, | :20:47. | :20:49.
Moses Kipsiro, because perhaps he senses that if Moses Kipsiro is | :20:50. | :20:57.
still there with two, 300 metres to go, maybe the Ugandan's speed will | :20:58. | :21:02.
get him across the line. But it is a fantastic effort to turn second | :21:03. | :21:05.
place last year into a victory this time around. But they will both be | :21:06. | :21:10.
feeling this. This is where the Demons come in to play and the | :21:11. | :21:13.
mental strength gets ever more important as they head towards the | :21:14. | :21:17.
climatic element of the race. They are coming up to ten miles. That is | :21:18. | :21:21.
a true distance. We will see an interesting time from Callum Hawkins | :21:22. | :21:26.
at the ten mile point. And there it is, four minutes and 28 seconds. A | :21:27. | :21:31.
really impressive time at ten miles. Callum Hawkins is now being tested. | :21:32. | :21:34.
Moses Kipsiro has allowed him a chance. He led him a few yards, but | :21:35. | :21:41.
not too many, and now Moses Kipsiro, with three miles is thinking about | :21:42. | :21:45.
what we'd seen him do many times before. Four minutes 20 seconds for | :21:46. | :21:51.
that mile, an incredible of pace for him, and he has been desperate to | :21:52. | :21:55.
win this race. And within the last couple of miles, and athlete of the | :21:56. | :21:58.
calibre and with the championship ability, he has suddenly come into | :21:59. | :22:04.
his own. Callum hasn't been in this territory, running this quick with | :22:05. | :22:09.
such a classy athlete behind him. But he is determined. He is having | :22:10. | :22:15.
another go. He is going again. Callum Hawkins is in uncharted | :22:16. | :22:20.
territory here. Four minutes and 21 seconds, four minutes and 20 | :22:21. | :22:23.
seconds, he has never been at this stage of a half marathon at this | :22:24. | :22:27.
kind of pace. Let's remind ourselves, Moses Kipsiro is not only | :22:28. | :22:31.
three-time, world champion, he is a world cross-country silver | :22:32. | :22:35.
medallist. A world cross-country bronze medallist. He got a bronze in | :22:36. | :22:41.
the series heat of Osaka over 5000 metres in 2007. He is world-class. | :22:42. | :22:46.
At a range of distances. On a range of services. And at the moment | :22:47. | :22:50.
Scotland's Callum Hawkins is equal to him and on course, perhaps, for a | :22:51. | :22:56.
very good personal best. Liz, you have been at this point in many | :22:57. | :23:00.
times -- Liz, you have been at this point many times in your career, | :23:01. | :23:04.
tell us about breaking down your opponent and tell us about your | :23:05. | :23:08.
experience. Callum knows how quick Moses Kipsiro is. He is trying to | :23:09. | :23:13.
get the gap. But it isn't big enough. Everything Callum is trying | :23:14. | :23:17.
to throw out Moses, he keeps holding it. Callum will be thinking, how am | :23:18. | :23:21.
I going to get away here? He is trying to keep pushing. The next | :23:22. | :23:29.
mile needs to be Callum moving forward to try and win it. He knows | :23:30. | :23:34.
what to do, you can see, but Moses Kipsiro is just keeping up with | :23:35. | :23:39.
everything he is throwing down. Do you think he is just moving | :23:40. | :23:42.
alongside him as a reminder that he is still there, or is that this | :23:43. | :23:46.
tactic just say, you have not me yet? -- is that his tactic. He wants | :23:47. | :23:55.
to run at a comfortable pace. As comfortable as he can. He is using | :23:56. | :23:58.
this race for New York. It is a big part of his preparation. He wants | :23:59. | :24:04.
success here so he can't leave you with some confidence. I think Callum | :24:05. | :24:09.
has gone out to try and get this record. He has the ability to be | :24:10. | :24:14.
really, really strong at the end of the race. This is very important, | :24:15. | :24:18.
this race, for Callum at this moment. The site and views just | :24:19. | :24:25.
remind you how fast these two men are running. Sometimes television | :24:26. | :24:29.
can make things look a bit too easy. As far as the club runners are | :24:30. | :24:33.
concerned among us, this would almost be akin to a flat out sprint. | :24:34. | :24:39.
Four minutes and 21, four minutes and 20, Callum Hawkins asking all of | :24:40. | :24:42.
the questions and Moses Kipsiro is doing everything right the moment. | :24:43. | :24:47.
But he is giving him self and opportunity for what would be a | :24:48. | :24:48.
memorable scalp. A personal best en route. An | :24:49. | :25:13.
impressive 46 minutes and 24 Callum Hawkins. But he is not satisfied | :25:14. | :25:17.
with that. He wants a personal best and a half marathon. I'm sure he | :25:18. | :25:22.
wants to win this one, he is trying to win it. -- an impressive 46 | :25:23. | :25:26.
minutes and 24 seconds for Callum Hawkins in a 10,000 race as part of | :25:27. | :25:34.
his records. This is a huge race, and he is a huge talent, as well. | :25:35. | :25:39.
Whilst we have the battle between Callum Hawkins and Moses Kipsiro, | :25:40. | :25:44.
let's have a look at Betsy Saina and Helah Kiprop. Betsy Saina with a | :25:45. | :25:49.
huge lead over Helah Kiprop. This is a different race. This is Betsy | :25:50. | :25:53.
Saina against the clock. Whereas it is Hawkins directly up against Moses | :25:54. | :25:59.
Kipsiro. Betsy Saina is in tenth place overall, that is how well she | :26:00. | :26:04.
has been running over the first ten kilometres. But it is a matter of | :26:05. | :26:09.
times in the women's race because Betsy Saina is way out in front. And | :26:10. | :26:14.
look at this, Callum Hawkins looks, to me, as though he has broken Moses | :26:15. | :26:20.
Kipsiro. A long way to go, still, but he has been pushing, he has been | :26:21. | :26:25.
probing for weaknesses. He has been asking the questions. And this is a | :26:26. | :26:30.
crucial, crucial half mile now for Moses Kipsiro. Does the elastic band | :26:31. | :26:36.
snap? It hasn't quite yet but it is heading that way. Callum Hawkins, | :26:37. | :26:40.
head down, staring ahead, working so hard, that gap looks to be very | :26:41. | :26:44.
exciting from Callum Hawkins's point of view. A record ten mile en route, | :26:45. | :26:50.
en route to a personal best in a half marathon. Is he en route to | :26:51. | :26:55.
victory, Liz? He has pulled through now. This is him putting his effort | :26:56. | :27:00.
in to win the race. For me, for Callum, it is great to see how he | :27:01. | :27:04.
has recovered from that Olympic Games. It is really good information | :27:05. | :27:09.
for him for future successes in the event. He needs to know how his body | :27:10. | :27:14.
reacts, how it recovers, and he has recovered exceptionally well after | :27:15. | :27:18.
that amazing race he had in Rio. Callum Hawkins, just coming up to | :27:19. | :27:21.
what the locals referred to as the Squinty Bridge, the Clyde Arc, the | :27:22. | :27:28.
first new road bridge to be built over the Clyde in almost 40 years. | :27:29. | :27:38.
Hawkins, at the moment, look at that, it has been that relentless | :27:39. | :27:43.
pace from this young Scot that has done the damage. Moses Kipsiro | :27:44. | :27:47.
cannot be completely discounted. He is world-class on the roads, | :27:48. | :27:52.
cross-country, and on the track. At the moment, Callum Hawkins looks | :27:53. | :27:54.
like he is going from strength to strength. And if he manages to keep | :27:55. | :28:01.
going here he will be on course for a massive personal best and a big | :28:02. | :28:09.
Scottish record, as well. Both men now back alongside the banks of the | :28:10. | :28:14.
Clyde. Callum Hawkins beginning to grimace. But understandably so. He | :28:15. | :28:18.
is in uncharted territory here, Liz, ten miles, 11 miles, this is great | :28:19. | :28:24.
mileage from Callum Hawkins. I will tell you what I've just noticed. | :28:25. | :28:28.
With those split times in those first three miles, I think he has | :28:29. | :28:33.
run a personal best 5000 metres in the last 5000 metres. -- in those | :28:34. | :28:40.
last three miles. His record the 5000 metres is not particularly | :28:41. | :28:45.
quick. But 40 minutes in 5000 metres is a personal best for him. I think | :28:46. | :28:51.
he has run under 14 minutes in those last 5000 metres. To be honest, that | :28:52. | :28:56.
is amazing running. Any athlete would be pleased with that at this | :28:57. | :29:00.
stage of a race, it is incredible, isn't it? It shows great strength of | :29:01. | :29:05.
character. He has known for a while that it is 62 minutes. He knows he | :29:06. | :29:09.
can do that. It is great to see him go out and do this race. He has gone | :29:10. | :29:15.
out with a great race plan and he has delivered it. There is still a | :29:16. | :29:20.
bit of time to go. It is not clear-cut yet. But I would say that | :29:21. | :29:22.
this looks a winning margin. There is the shot of Moses Kipsiro, | :29:23. | :29:31.
the long loping stride. We have seen him come back from impossible | :29:32. | :29:37.
margins before, but as the camera pulls out programme, you can see how | :29:38. | :29:42.
much -- pulls out. You can see how much damage the 5 k has done. He is | :29:43. | :29:46.
is a long way isolated in second place. He looks tired. He looks | :29:47. | :29:54.
slow. He did look really labouring there, and there Callum Hawkins, | :29:55. | :30:00.
incredibly, personal best 10 miles and I think a personal best pleasure | :30:01. | :30:05.
5,000 metres to the last 5,000 metre, on his way along the river | :30:06. | :30:12.
bank, can he run under 62 minutes? Pleasure the half marathon? -- | :30:13. | :30:16.
pleasure the half marathon. It is clearly hurting him. He is grafting | :30:17. | :30:21.
now, he has done a lot of damage to Kipsiro but he has done some damage | :30:22. | :30:26.
to himself. He is labouring pleasure the first time but it is within his | :30:27. | :30:31.
sight. Can he keep it going, can hold it. Amazening thinks can happen | :30:32. | :30:36.
in the latest stages of distance run, you can see the 12th mile, that | :30:37. | :30:43.
injection of pace, it is taking its total on Callum Hawkins. He is in | :30:44. | :30:46.
great company here, he has beaten well on the way to beating the | :30:47. | :30:50.
Commonwealth champion, when I think about it you know, there have been | :30:51. | :30:55.
great Scottish marathon runners and distance runner, Callum is joining | :30:56. | :31:00.
people like Don McGregor gore and Jim Alder and the great Liz | :31:01. | :31:04.
McColgan. Freya Ross was our best athlete in the Olympic games in | :31:05. | :31:09.
2012. Alistair Hutton holds the record. He holds the Scottish record | :31:10. | :31:15.
pleasure the half marathon, Callum Hawkins, is he on the way to eclipse | :31:16. | :31:21.
what Alistair Hutton has done? He is hurting. If you run really fast in | :31:22. | :31:25.
the middle of a race it takes its toll eventually. | :31:26. | :31:31.
Liz, we know it has been a good year from Callum Hawkins, it looks as | :31:32. | :31:35.
though it is turning into a great finish to his year here at the Great | :31:36. | :31:40.
Scottish Run. How significant would it be, assuming he manages to keep | :31:41. | :31:45.
going here and produce a big lifetime best and a big scalp in | :31:46. | :31:49.
beating Moses Kipsiro. This is a really important race pleasure him. | :31:50. | :31:53.
He, as I said earlier he is still young, he is still learning the | :31:54. | :31:56.
event but he is coming into his own now and he is learning how to win | :31:57. | :32:01.
race, how it feels at the end of testify races when he is committing | :32:02. | :32:06.
himself early in the race, it is all going to make him the whole package | :32:07. | :32:10.
pleasure when he does attack the marathon in four years type. He is | :32:11. | :32:14.
working hard there, it is never easy. But if you look, he is working | :32:15. | :32:21.
hard he is still moving forward. He has flowing, so I think it is a | :32:22. | :32:25.
winning margin pleasure him. It is how much he can break the record by | :32:26. | :32:27.
now. They remember him from the | :32:28. | :32:41.
Commonwealth Games in 2014. We are looking at Callum Hawkins. He is | :32:42. | :32:45.
hurting now. He has worked so hard pleasure this. Moving forward. He | :32:46. | :32:52.
has flowing, so I think it is a winning margin for him. It is how | :32:53. | :32:55.
much he can break the record by now. They remember him from the | :32:56. | :32:57.
Commonwealth Games in 2014. We are looking at Callum Hawkins. He is | :32:58. | :33:00.
hurting now. He has worked so hard for this. Less than a mile to go. | :33:01. | :33:03.
You can see the effort, how much it means for him. You can see how he | :33:04. | :33:06.
has prepared to hurt himself to try and win this, to win it, the first | :33:07. | :33:08.
Scottish distance runner, to win the Great Scottish Run half marathon, is | :33:09. | :33:12.
he going to do that? It look like he is. Is he going to run it as | :33:13. | :33:15.
personal best, look like he is. How quick can he run? Can he Blake that | :33:16. | :33:20.
record? If you are a fan of distance running, and fan of British and | :33:21. | :33:24.
Scottish distance running, -- break. This is so exciting to see. For so | :33:25. | :33:32.
many years people have criticised our distance runners and said there | :33:33. | :33:36.
isn't enough strength and depth. Callum Hawkins could signal the | :33:37. | :33:41.
beginning of a new era for British and Scottish distance running, so | :33:42. | :33:46.
talented, so confident and he has raced this withel aggression and | :33:47. | :33:49.
self-belief. -- with real. | :33:50. | :34:01.
There under the bridge now, there goes Callum Hawkins. Almost within | :34:02. | :34:08.
sight of Glasgow Green, where everyone is gathering. He will get a | :34:09. | :34:12.
tremendous reception when he comes into Glasgow Green, he has run a | :34:13. | :34:17.
terrific race, you can see he is digging again, 400 metres remaining | :34:18. | :34:21.
for Callum Hawkins. Personal best en route and he is getting the crowd to | :34:22. | :34:25.
cheer for him. He deserves this, just under the hour so far, here | :34:26. | :34:30.
comes Callum Hawkins. Less than 300 metres to go, he is into the area | :34:31. | :34:35.
where he can now relax, he can get the crowds to cheer, he is is | :34:36. | :34:39.
running a phenomenal time, it is an incredible performance, look that | :34:40. | :34:45.
the. He will be close to 60 minutes. Callum Hawkins is announcing his | :34:46. | :34:50.
arrival at the very top of world distance running. | :34:51. | :34:56.
He is going to absolutely smash his lifetime best, the Scottish record | :34:57. | :35:01.
6789 we knew this was a young man of immense talent when he finished | :35:02. | :35:06.
second here 12 months ago, but second is becoming first here, there | :35:07. | :35:11.
is a piece of history being written here along the banks of the River | :35:12. | :35:19.
Clyde. Callum Hawkins is finishing 2016 in style. He is sprinting, | :35:20. | :35:24.
accelerating, he is a record breaker here in Glasgow today. A staggering | :35:25. | :35:31.
run from Callum Hawkins. A new star is born. He can't believe it. That | :35:32. | :35:37.
is absolutely incredible. Callum Hawkins, what a run, what a | :35:38. | :35:41.
performance, what a day for him, Liz. You have to say something about | :35:42. | :35:46.
that. He has came of age. That is an amazing run, if yout that on against | :35:47. | :35:50.
Mo Farah, you know, he is two seconds behind but a great finish | :35:51. | :35:54.
for Kipsiro because he has had a really hard year and now she back as | :35:55. | :36:02.
well, with sub 61. A fantastic run from Callum. I don't | :36:03. | :36:05.
think believes that himself he ran that quick. We know how big football | :36:06. | :36:09.
and rugby are here in Scotland. Callum Hawkins deserves to be on the | :36:10. | :36:14.
front and back pages of the Scottish newspapers tomorrow, that was | :36:15. | :36:18.
genuinely world class, Kipsiro relegated to second this time, and | :36:19. | :36:23.
Joel Kimutai who probed for weaknesses at the half way stage of | :36:24. | :36:27.
the race, he comes home a very tired and relieved third. | :36:28. | :36:34.
Well Kimutai made that race in the middle. Callum did it towards the | :36:35. | :36:39.
end. Callum Hawkins the second fastest Briton over a half marathon | :36:40. | :36:44.
in history, only the great and I mean great Mo Farah is faster than | :36:45. | :36:48.
that. That is brilliant ful well done Callum, you deserve every bit | :36:49. | :36:53.
of respect, you deserve every bit of publicity you will get. Here comes | :36:54. | :36:57.
Chris Thompson. In a good time. Under 62 minutes for Chris Thompson. | :36:58. | :37:01.
Another great performance. It is great to see Chris coming through, | :37:02. | :37:05.
he is on the road to recovery from a lot of surgery and injury, he did | :37:06. | :37:10.
fantastic there. Hopefully another year training and he will be up | :37:11. | :37:14.
there mixing it with Callum. Great run there from Chris Thompson. He | :37:15. | :37:19.
has lost so many years to injury. At last, he looks as though he is | :37:20. | :37:25.
coming back to some good form, but all of them finishing second or | :37:26. | :37:29.
third or fourth or fifth best to Callum Hawkins. What is a | :37:30. | :37:30.
performance. It is our greatest ever... Betsy | :37:31. | :37:57.
Saina he will be unaware of the drama that happened up ahead of her. | :37:58. | :38:01.
Callum Hawkins a breakthrough performance and this is another one | :38:02. | :38:05.
here from Betsy Saina. We foe how good she was on the | :38:06. | :38:13.
track, running just outside 30 minutes, finishing fifth in that | :38:14. | :38:16.
world record breaking so,000 metre race in Rio in August. And this is a | :38:17. | :38:21.
brilliant performance from Betsy Saina, lifetime best coming into | :38:22. | :38:27.
this one, 69.27. She has demolished a world class field here. She has | :38:28. | :38:32.
ran several minutes quicker than her personal best, still on for a course | :38:33. | :38:37.
record too. But fantastic solo effort as well. She has some company | :38:38. | :38:42.
early on but she ran the majority of the race on her own, she is looking | :38:43. | :38:46.
a bit tired now, you will do at this pace, I think now she will be | :38:47. | :38:50.
looking towards when she is going to do a marathon now. I was going to | :38:51. | :38:55.
ask you that question, assuming she finishes here, with the kind of pace | :38:56. | :39:00.
she has put together so far, she has the makings of a brilliant marathon | :39:01. | :39:07.
runner. She She has the credential, he van 30.05. 30.05. Great endurance | :39:08. | :39:13.
and I think this is her first proper attempt as doing road racing, she is | :39:14. | :39:17.
going to come away with a world class time as well, so it has been a | :39:18. | :39:22.
great effort for her, so it will be a great transition from track on to | :39:23. | :39:26.
the roads now. Helah Kiprop in second place. | :39:27. | :39:31.
A long way adrift but it has been a good fun the World Championship | :39:32. | :39:33.
marathon silver-medallist from last year, as Brendan said earlier, she | :39:34. | :39:38.
would have been disappointed with how Herimarathon turned out in Rio, | :39:39. | :39:43.
she is a class act and digging in, in second place, she is a long way | :39:44. | :39:46.
behind Betsy Saina. Her marathon turned out in Rio, she | :39:47. | :40:16.
is a class act and digging in, in second place, she is a long way | :40:17. | :40:18.
behind Betsy Saina. Betsy Saina not too far away from | :40:19. | :40:20.
the leaf of the finish line. Moses Kipsiro -- Edna Kiplagat's course | :40:21. | :40:26.
record, this has been really good run from Betsy Saina. She has been | :40:27. | :40:30.
there or thereabouts as far as the podium positions are concerned in | :40:31. | :40:33.
last couple of year, not just this year, in Rio but last year in | :40:34. | :40:39.
Beijing as well, but maybe, she is finding her true forte here, on the | :40:40. | :40:44.
roads of Glasgow, this is an indication that perhaps her best | :40:45. | :40:48.
days the of all lie on the roads, and if so, there is a very exciting | :40:49. | :40:51.
future for this young woman. Betsy Saina has done this all on her | :40:52. | :41:11.
own, she established a lead of 36.37 seconds after 5 k, all on her own | :41:12. | :41:20.
here. She will turn shortly and head under the arch. There is the arch | :41:21. | :41:29.
and she will come home to rich applause from the crowd. This is a | :41:30. | :41:34.
brilliant run from Betsy Saina. She too, along with Callum Hawkins, is | :41:35. | :41:38.
going to absolutely smash her lifetime best, and she is going to | :41:39. | :41:44.
break the course record as well. K, all on her own here. She will turn | :41:45. | :41:47.
shortly and head under the arch. There is the arch and she will come | :41:48. | :41:49.
home to rich applause from the crowd. This is a brilliant run from | :41:50. | :41:52.
Betsy Saina. She too, along with Callum Hawkins, is going to | :41:53. | :41:54.
absolutely smash her lifetime best, and she is going to break the course | :41:55. | :41:57.
record as well. That is a mark held by Edna Kiplagat. Magnificent double | :41:58. | :41:59.
well World Champion. 2014 and 2015. Betsy Saina, has been in a class of | :42:00. | :42:04.
her own here. A totally different race to that which we very much | :42:05. | :42:12.
enjoyed in the men's battle for supremacy, Saina has been in a class | :42:13. | :42:19.
of her own have the very start. She takes the 2016 Great Scottish Run | :42:20. | :42:26.
title in a new course record, just outside 67 minute, that was | :42:27. | :42:29.
absolutely brilliant from Betsy Saina, and Liz, we talked about how | :42:30. | :42:34.
exciting the potential was for this woman over the half marathon, and | :42:35. | :42:41.
she has lived up to the prerace star-studded billings, she is | :42:42. | :42:44.
delighted. Is A fantastic and world class performance. There is not many | :42:45. | :42:50.
faster times from the girls this year, a good transition for he she | :42:51. | :42:53.
looks as though she could put together a good marathon, but not | :42:54. | :42:57.
just yet, I don't think she is quite ready yet, she got a bit tired over | :42:58. | :43:02.
the last couple of miles and her cadence was not as good, but, | :43:03. | :43:06.
definitely one to look for in the future. | :43:07. | :43:14.
So while Betsy Saina poses for the photos, Helah Kiprop now finds | :43:15. | :43:18.
herself just a couple of hundred metres from the runners-up spot. | :43:19. | :43:26.
Bouncing back well from her dispoint of having to drop out of the Rio | :43:27. | :43:30.
Olympic marathon a couple of monthsing a. Helah Kiprop, she is | :43:31. | :43:35.
not going to set a lifetime best but this is still a really really class | :43:36. | :43:42.
performance here in Glasgow, from the women's runner-up. The | :43:43. | :43:48.
silver-medallist from last year in Beijing, finishes second here the | :43:49. | :43:53.
Glasgow, inside 69 minutes, another fabulous performance, it has been | :43:54. | :43:56.
world class and not just from the winner. | :43:57. | :44:02.
Kenyan dominance in the lady's race. Doris Changeiywo, very tired in | :44:03. | :44:24.
third place. Trying to hang onto that third spot. It has been a good | :44:25. | :44:30.
run so far from Great Britain's Beth Potter, fifth in the Commonwealth | :44:31. | :44:34.
Games in Glasgow, not too far behind. I think that is Billy | :44:35. | :44:37.
Partridge... I don't think that is Beth. Both British runners doing | :44:38. | :44:44.
well. In the future, these girls should move up to the marathon. They | :44:45. | :44:48.
have shown good potential at ten kilometres. Lily has had some | :44:49. | :44:54.
injuries. She suffers from bad hay fever in the summer which interferes | :44:55. | :44:59.
with her racing. A marathon move for her would be good. Beth did | :45:00. | :45:07.
brilliant in Rio. The Team GB. -- for Team GB. She has had a | :45:08. | :45:11.
three-week break. To come back and run her first half marathon after | :45:12. | :45:14.
that has shown great strength and character, as well. -- strength of | :45:15. | :45:23.
character. Doris Changeiywo, labouring a little bit. It has been | :45:24. | :45:27.
a tough pace right from the very start from Betsy Saina. Indeed it | :45:28. | :45:39.
was Lily Partridge. Running under the McLennan arch, the oldest | :45:40. | :45:43.
artefact on Glasgow Green. Looking over her shoulder, just making sure | :45:44. | :45:47.
she finishes on the podium as she did 12 months ago. That is very | :45:48. | :45:57.
close to Lily's personal best. She said she would run her first | :45:58. | :46:00.
marathon next year when I spoke to her earlier. That is a good comeback | :46:01. | :46:07.
from her. And just at the very top is Derek Rae, Scotland's Paralympian | :46:08. | :46:11.
who dropped out of the Rio course with real disappointment. Just | :46:12. | :46:15.
checking his watch. That is a great run from him. He may be fairly close | :46:16. | :46:21.
to his lifetime best, which stands just outside 71 minutes. Meanwhile, | :46:22. | :46:27.
Doris Changeiywo, a very tired figure. The Kenyan is just about | :46:28. | :46:33.
hanging on here for third place in the women's race. Lily Partridge | :46:34. | :46:41.
coming home, not too far outside her best in fourth position. As Derek | :46:42. | :46:47.
Rae comes over the line, just waiting to see, he may well have | :46:48. | :46:52.
just broken his personal best by a few seconds. We will bring that | :46:53. | :46:58.
confirmation. The athlete from Fife. Meanwhile, Doris Changeiywo | :46:59. | :47:01.
completed the women's race, coming in in third. | :47:02. | :47:07.
A great win for Betsy Saina in the women's race. But if you missed it, | :47:08. | :47:13.
that is the winner of the men's race. Callum Hawkins, just 24, | :47:14. | :47:22.
unbelievable performance from this young fellow, because he was at the | :47:23. | :47:26.
Olympics in Rio just a few months ago. He managed to get a ninth place | :47:27. | :47:31.
in the marathon. But he ran today in the Great Scottish Run, he was | :47:32. | :47:33.
runner-up last year to Moses Kipsiro. Today he started and | :47:34. | :47:40.
finished this race in 60 minutes and 22 seconds. It is a new Scottish | :47:41. | :47:44.
record. The last Scotsman to win this competition was back in 1990 -- | :47:45. | :47:50.
back in 1983. It was Peter Fleming with a time of two hours plus, that | :47:51. | :48:00.
was back in the day when it was a marathon, it is now a half marathon. | :48:01. | :48:05.
Callum Hawkins has won in a world class time. He is delighted and has | :48:06. | :48:10.
every reason to be. This is a guy with a massive future. Not only in | :48:11. | :48:15.
half marathon, but in marathon, as well. A hugely talented athlete and | :48:16. | :48:19.
a very popular win here at Glasgow Green in the Great Scottish Run. -- | :48:20. | :48:23.
popular winner. What a great site for Scottish | :48:24. | :48:32.
sports fans and distance running fans. Callum Hawkins has beaten the | :48:33. | :48:38.
three-time Commonwealth champion Moses Kipsiro. A performance of | :48:39. | :48:43.
class. A run of aggression. And that, without any doubt, has been a | :48:44. | :48:49.
major step up in class for Callum Hawkins. And the great news is there | :48:50. | :48:53.
is so much more to come from this young, talented Scot. While Hawkins | :48:54. | :49:01.
had to work so, so hard to drop Moses Kipsiro, it was a solo effort | :49:02. | :49:08.
from Betsy Saina. Only her second half marathon. And what a fantastic | :49:09. | :49:13.
performance. Helah Kiprop finishing second, and Doris Changeiywo | :49:14. | :49:18.
finishing third. Lily Partridge running really well, only a few | :49:19. | :49:26.
seconds off third place in Glasgow. Battling for Callum Hawkins is | :49:27. | :49:29.
truly, truly remarkable. We expected him to do well today, but nobody | :49:30. | :49:37.
expected him to win it. -- that win for Callum Hawkins. The course | :49:38. | :49:42.
record was Hayley Gabby -- an amazing result for this young | :49:43. | :49:53.
Scottish athlete. A great day at Glasgow Green for the Great Scottish | :49:54. | :49:57.
Run. It is not just the elite athletes taking part, let's talk to | :49:58. | :50:03.
some people running for different reasons. My daughter was born in | :50:04. | :50:09.
2015. Shortly after she was born she struggled with her breathing. After | :50:10. | :50:15.
about an hour the nurse came to me and asked me to come and see Lauren. | :50:16. | :50:20.
She was still in recovery at this stage. About an hour later we got | :50:21. | :50:28.
pretty bad news. She had a serious condition. They didn't know if she | :50:29. | :50:33.
was going to survive at that stage. I then had to break the news to | :50:34. | :50:39.
Wendy which wasn't fun. The first thing, I think, I ask you was, is | :50:40. | :50:44.
she going to die? And honestly, at that point, nobody had an answer for | :50:45. | :50:50.
us. The issue that they have with babies with that condition is that | :50:51. | :50:54.
the organs which should be sitting underneath start to move up and sit | :50:55. | :50:58.
in the chest cavity. The challenge we had when Lauren was born was | :50:59. | :51:07.
whether there would be enough room for the organs to reach complete | :51:08. | :51:15.
capacity. And then she had the hernia. She went from strength to | :51:16. | :51:25.
strength. She started thriving. Thriving, yeah, making strides in | :51:26. | :51:30.
the right direction. When we finally got her home and didn't matter any | :51:31. | :51:36.
more. She was still really tiny. We were just so thankful to have her | :51:37. | :51:40.
finally home. You just move on. You forget about it. It was a bit of a | :51:41. | :51:46.
surprise, the day she got discharged, that she was coming home | :51:47. | :51:51.
so quick. We were thinking, what do we get the doctors and nurses to say | :51:52. | :51:58.
thank you. A box of chocolates doesn't quite cut it when they save | :51:59. | :52:03.
your child's life. The day we stepped out we knew we would give | :52:04. | :52:06.
something back. We have spent the last nine months training and | :52:07. | :52:11.
participating in a variety of events and raising money, which will be | :52:12. | :52:17.
divided across both the children's Glasgow hospital charity, and also | :52:18. | :52:25.
CDH UK, which is a charity for people with the same condition | :52:26. | :52:30.
Lauren had. I am not a runner. The longest distance I have done was ten | :52:31. | :52:36.
kilometres, so I am a bit nervous about Sunday, but excited at the | :52:37. | :52:39.
same time. It is a great conclusion to what has been a brilliant year. I | :52:40. | :52:44.
will be so proud of myself when I cross the finish line. | :52:45. | :52:50.
Wendy Andy Ryan with their own particular reason for taking part in | :52:51. | :52:56.
the Great Scottish Run. -- Wendy and Ryan. For a lot of people, they will | :52:57. | :53:09.
be out for a lot longer. Let's have a look at the view from our | :53:10. | :53:10.
helicopter. The Squinty Bridge, one of the great | :53:11. | :53:33.
landmarks here in Glasgow. The Pacific Quay, the whole area | :53:34. | :53:41.
redeveloped over the last 30 or 40 years. And whilst we have enjoyed | :53:42. | :53:45.
two really brilliant performances in the elite race, not least of which | :53:46. | :53:53.
from Great Britain, and Scotland's Callum Hawkins smashing the Scottish | :53:54. | :53:56.
record, beating the world-class Moses Kipsiro. As we can see here, | :53:57. | :54:03.
with all of the messages of support and congratulations for the | :54:04. | :54:05.
athletes, there are tens of thousands of reasons to celebrate | :54:06. | :54:10.
all that this great race represents here in Glasgow. A few of these | :54:11. | :54:18.
athletes will no doubt set lifetime bests as they head over the bridge. | :54:19. | :54:25.
And some will be raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for their chosen | :54:26. | :54:30.
charities. All of them well-deserved. The fabulous | :54:31. | :54:36.
Glaswegian hospitality will inevitably awaits them all at the | :54:37. | :54:40.
finishing line. This is one of the world's friendliest cities. And it | :54:41. | :54:44.
has begun to attract entries from all over the world. Decent athletes, | :54:45. | :54:53.
these, coming home around one hour and 20 minutes, one hour and 21 | :54:54. | :55:04.
minutes. Very good times. A great drive for the Finnish there. -- | :55:05. | :55:18.
finish. All of the landmarks around the quayside raised in this | :55:19. | :55:23.
lunchtime sunshine. It has been a superb day here in Glasgow. -- | :55:24. | :55:35.
bathed in this lunchtime sunshine. And there will be thousands more | :55:36. | :55:40.
coming through this way. It really is a glorious day in | :55:41. | :55:44.
Glasgow. The Glasgow Green wearing it Sunday best. It is beautiful. It | :55:45. | :55:50.
was freezing earlier, lovely and warm now. They don't just have | :55:51. | :55:56.
Glaswegians cheering them on, they also have Olympic heroes, as well. | :55:57. | :56:00.
One of them is Mark Bennett, a Scotland international rugby player. | :56:01. | :56:02.
Let's remind ourselves how he managed to pick up silver and a | :56:03. | :56:05.
couple of years ago. The Scotsman with the kick ahead. | :56:06. | :56:13.
The balance needs to be good. He pauses, and Great Britain has taken | :56:14. | :56:16.
the lead through Bennett. Great Britain are in the Gold final. | :56:17. | :56:29.
They will play Fiji. They are already guaranteed | :56:30. | :56:31.
something here. We have already made a bit of history. They just have to | :56:32. | :56:36.
sort out whether it is gold or silver. | :56:37. | :56:44.
It is such a moment in the history of Fiji, the rugby team, and Fiji | :56:45. | :56:54.
the country. Because this is their first-ever medal at the Olympic | :56:55. | :56:58.
Games. A wonderful moment for Team GB and | :56:59. | :57:00.
all of the players. Mark, we just saw that wonderful | :57:01. | :57:09.
picture of you getting your silver medal at the Olympics and standing | :57:10. | :57:13.
with a big grin on your face. Marvellous memories for you. | :57:14. | :57:18.
Absolutely. The whole experience was incredible. Being an athlete there | :57:19. | :57:22.
and seeing everybody to compete at the top of their game. And coming | :57:23. | :57:25.
out with a silver medal tops everything off. You are only one of | :57:26. | :57:30.
the few Scots in that Team GB team, but he certainly flew the flag for | :57:31. | :57:37.
the country. It was myself and Mark Roberts in the rugby sevens. It was | :57:38. | :57:40.
great, the performance of the whole squad it was excellent, but myself | :57:41. | :57:43.
and marketed ourselves proud. No doubt about that. But getting to the | :57:44. | :57:47.
final in the rugby sevens for Team GB, and this was the first year that | :57:48. | :57:51.
they have rugby sevens in the Olympics, it seemed to be a huge | :57:52. | :57:56.
success. Absolutely. To be honest we were not expecting to go and do as | :57:57. | :58:01.
well as we did. To get a silver medal was incredible. But abruptly, | :58:02. | :58:07.
as a whole, they went amazing in the Olympics. The support from back | :58:08. | :58:13.
home. It was huge. The British Lions will come together for the 15 man | :58:14. | :58:20.
squad, but this was a seven man squad, so was it difficult to gel as | :58:21. | :58:24.
a unit? It is difficult to play with people you don't know. The squad was | :58:25. | :58:30.
great. Everybody bonded very well. That transferred to the way we | :58:31. | :58:33.
played on the pitch. It took a bit of time to get going. But we surely | :58:34. | :58:39.
got there in the end. Let's talk about Glasgow Warriors and Scotland. | :58:40. | :58:42.
Warriors have had an OK start of the season. They were knocked out in the | :58:43. | :58:47.
semifinal of the pro 12 last year and the year before. You are back in | :58:48. | :58:51.
there and doing some damage, as well, with them. We have had a | :58:52. | :58:55.
difficult start of the season. We have played some great sites. It | :58:56. | :59:00.
started OK. We have a few years before getting it into Europe, so we | :59:01. | :59:04.
need to use the next couple of weeks to get going and get running again. | :59:05. | :59:10.
-- great sides. It is great to have you here inspiring everybody with | :59:11. | :59:19.
your medal. Mark Bennett is a fine fellow. | :59:20. | :59:27.
I was involved in a deliberate hit-and-run in 2011. I sustained a | :59:28. | :59:37.
serious brain injury through that. I was left for dead. My name is | :59:38. | :59:46.
Scott and this is my run. It was a serious one, I was in | :59:47. | :59:51.
hospital for almost six months. The daughter -- doctor that was treating | :59:52. | :59:56.
us at the time, she said to my mum she didn't have much hope for us, if | :59:57. | :00:00.
I did pull through I wouldn't be able to walk. | :00:01. | :00:06.
Came out the coma, and I couldn't speak, couldn't talk, couldn't do | :00:07. | :00:11.
nothing for mice, couldn't, I couldn't go to the toilet, accuse | :00:12. | :00:14.
eventually nothing. I thought my life was over. -- actually nothing. | :00:15. | :00:22.
Completely over. I thought I am going to fight this, and my dad and | :00:23. | :00:26.
my mum used to say what you going to do? I used to raise my fist because | :00:27. | :00:32.
I couldn't talk. I think a brain injury, you are in | :00:33. | :00:37.
recovery for the rest of your life. I have tried to have as normal life | :00:38. | :00:42.
as possible and not let it affect me but in the back of your mind you | :00:43. | :00:49.
have a brain injury. When you exercise, I use stress and pressure | :00:50. | :00:53.
and anger, I couldn't run two years ago. I couldn't even run 1 k. Doing | :00:54. | :01:02.
10k from what came from, I couldn't walk, just for me, it is a big | :01:03. | :01:08.
achievement. I feel proud and successful because | :01:09. | :01:13.
I have done it for a good cause. I am living. I am doing a lot of | :01:14. | :01:20.
things I never thought I would do, so positives have come out of it. It | :01:21. | :01:25.
has been an amazing recovery and an amazing journey. | :01:26. | :01:32.
So Scott, five years ago you suffered a veer brain injure y here | :01:33. | :01:37.
you are, October 2016. You have completed your first 10k, how you | :01:38. | :01:43.
feeling? I'm knackered but at the same time, I am, I never thought I | :01:44. | :01:49.
could ever, this time five year ago, this would have been the furrest | :01:50. | :01:56.
away thing in my mind, to think I could be raising funds for charity. | :01:57. | :01:59.
Did you think you were going to make it? You said at Ak you were a wee | :02:00. | :02:08.
bit... I got to 5k, that is the furthest I had done. I was tempted | :02:09. | :02:13.
to walk, then I thought circumstances I stopped at seven, | :02:14. | :02:16.
then I went to eight, then I went to nine and I just walked the rest. | :02:17. | :02:22.
But where I had to walk, or run or jog, I was determined I was getting | :02:23. | :02:28.
it down done because I have raised funds for Headway. It was was just a | :02:29. | :02:37.
turn up or not do it. Will you be back next year, doing the half | :02:38. | :02:41.
marathon? That could be a possible. Let's hope so. I could raise funds | :02:42. | :02:48.
again for Headway. Go and have a nice long rest now. Oh, well | :02:49. | :02:53.
deserved. As the mass runners continue on this | :02:54. | :02:57.
glorious course in Glasgow, let us take a moment to recap on the elite | :02:58. | :03:00.
races starting with the wheelchair race which took place earlier today. | :03:01. | :03:06.
Today. The race set off just before 9.30 this morning and took place | :03:07. | :03:11.
over a 10k distance. It's a tough old start on the week | :03:12. | :03:16.
race, up St Vincent Street, very difficult indeed. It was Patrick | :03:17. | :03:21.
Monaghan who managed to get the win. Patrick Monaghan from Ireland. He | :03:22. | :03:26.
beat Mark Telford in a very tightly fought race. So Patrick Monaghan is | :03:27. | :03:30.
the Great Scottish Run champion 2016. And our man David Currie | :03:31. | :03:35.
managed to get a chat with him not long after the finish. | :03:36. | :03:43.
Patrick, many congratulations. It was a tight finish but you | :03:44. | :03:48.
prevailed. Yes, just about, similar the last year, obviously one place | :03:49. | :03:53.
better for both of us. This was your second time doing the Great Scottish | :03:54. | :03:59.
Run? Yes I was here last year, it is a great atmosphere so I had to come | :04:00. | :04:03.
back. You enjoy it going round the streets of Glasgow. I love it. | :04:04. | :04:10.
Cheered on all the way Yes, the dangerous bends come up. Coming hot | :04:11. | :04:17.
on the heels of Rio. Yes, I was in Rio, two weeks' ago, hadn't really | :04:18. | :04:23.
been well, I had to get moving again. What was wrong with you? I | :04:24. | :04:28.
had a virus and a kidney infection. So bad timing. Younsed back with a | :04:29. | :04:32.
tremendous win. Yes, it was good to get out. Just good to get the arms | :04:33. | :04:37.
going again. What was going through your hind when you were coming up to | :04:38. | :04:42.
the finish and it was so close. Just making sure he wasn't coming any | :04:43. | :04:49.
closer. So what is next for you? Chicago next week, I don't know | :04:50. | :04:54.
Howley go but I will give it my home shot then Dumbarton at the end of | :04:55. | :04:59.
the month. You are looking to win that in your home country. Yes, it a | :05:00. | :05:04.
great atmosphere as well, so that was my first marathon. Great stuff, | :05:05. | :05:10.
thank you and well done today. Fantastic win there, and in the 10k | :05:11. | :05:16.
which took place just after the wheelchair race, Jonathan Hopkins | :05:17. | :05:23.
managed to win for the men. Let us get a recap of what is going on. | :05:24. | :05:30.
During the course of the, so these are pictures of the 10k, let us have | :05:31. | :05:34.
a recap of the women's race with the team. | :05:35. | :05:43.
Betsy Saina was absolutely brilliant today. | :05:44. | :05:49.
She moved away from the rest of the field, she established over a 30 | :05:50. | :05:54.
second advantage on the first 5k alone. She came flying into the | :05:55. | :05:59.
finish, producing a new course record here in Glasgow, 67.22. A | :06:00. | :06:05.
marvellous run from a brilliant track runner who has a huge view fur | :06:06. | :06:11.
on the roads. Helah Kiprop, she broke 69 minutes for second. And | :06:12. | :06:19.
Doris Changeiywo made it a 1-2-3 for Kenya coming home in 71.34. So there | :06:20. | :06:26.
is the confirmation of the top ten. Lily Partridge and Beth Potter | :06:27. | :06:30.
running well in fourth and fifth. Potter with a new lifetime best in | :06:31. | :06:35.
fifth place. Great performances from the six | :06:36. | :06:39.
British women packing into the top ten, but nobody could get close to | :06:40. | :06:46.
Betsy Saina today. I am thrieted to say I am joined by | :06:47. | :06:53.
Betsy S -- delighted. You just blew the field away. Yes, thank you so | :06:54. | :06:58.
much. It is really fun when you go out and just go to Scotland for the | :06:59. | :07:04.
first time, win a race, to be honest it has been an amazing week, I am so | :07:05. | :07:09.
excited and so happy to be in Scotland. It was awesome to run out | :07:10. | :07:14.
there. It was a great race, obviously you took vaned Tang nice | :07:15. | :07:17.
and elderly and got that lead. How difficult is it to lead from the | :07:18. | :07:21.
front when you know the rest of the field are breathing down your neck? | :07:22. | :07:26.
Some days like you will never know how far until you try. I thought my | :07:27. | :07:31.
personal best is 69.29 so I was like, today, I just want to go out | :07:32. | :07:36.
there, I don't know what I am planning, because since Rio, at the | :07:37. | :07:40.
Olympics, I haven't done much. I took a break and I started running. | :07:41. | :07:44.
I was like I want to go out and have some fun, see the people of Scotland | :07:45. | :07:49.
on the way, and I just had an amazing time out there. You had | :07:50. | :07:55.
great fun and we had fun, it was fantastic, congratulations, winner | :07:56. | :07:58.
of the Great Scottish Run, well done. Thank you so much to even in | :07:59. | :08:03.
Scotland. You guys are awesome, looking forward to coming back, | :08:04. | :08:06.
thank you so much for having us here. We will look at the men's race | :08:07. | :08:13.
now, shall we. It was teed up to be a fabulous race | :08:14. | :08:19.
between the best of British, the best of Scottish Callum Hawkins. | :08:20. | :08:33.
Against Kimutai. It was Callum Hawkins who produced three | :08:34. | :08:40.
blistering miles, 4.21, 4.23 and that did the damage. Kip Ukip began | :08:41. | :08:47.
to struggle with the Endeavour and the aggression of Callum Hawkins. | :08:48. | :08:53.
Who produced the most scintillating moment for Scottish distance | :08:54. | :08:58.
running, the second fastest British performance in history, obliterating | :08:59. | :09:02.
Alistair Hutton's Scottish national record. Kipsiro 60.54 in second. But | :09:03. | :09:09.
Callum Hawkins came out on top O for . What a race and what a performance | :09:10. | :09:14.
from Callum Hawkins. It has certainly be a year to remember for | :09:15. | :09:19.
him. Moses Kipsiro, the winner here in Glasgow last year, relegated to | :09:20. | :09:25.
second, Joel Kimutai third and Chris Thompson, an excellent performance | :09:26. | :09:28.
coming home inside 62 minutes for four. | :09:29. | :09:35.
I am delighted to say I am joined by the champion Callum Hawkins. Not | :09:36. | :09:38.
only the champion but the course record holder and what a race it was | :09:39. | :09:45.
for you? Yes, I can't put it in words, I wasn't expecting anywhere | :09:46. | :09:50.
near what I ran. I am just really pleased I went out to win, and that | :09:51. | :09:54.
is what I did. I didn't really care about dying or not. I was going to | :09:55. | :10:00.
win. Didn't want to come second. It was amazing not only you managed to | :10:01. | :10:04.
beat Moses but you managed to beat the course record which is held by | :10:05. | :10:09.
Haile Gebrselassie. Yes, just to have my name on the | :10:10. | :10:14.
same sentence as one of the greatest endour rans runners ever is | :10:15. | :10:17.
incredible. I can't believe what I have done. We can believe what you | :10:18. | :10:22.
done, you are runner-up last year you won this year, we wondered how | :10:23. | :10:27.
much that marathon took out of you, you got a ninth place, but you had | :10:28. | :10:31.
enough spare to come here to Glasgow and just to put in that blistering | :10:32. | :10:37.
run. Yes, I think, I think my altitude training agrees with me. I | :10:38. | :10:42.
took two weeks off, no running, I have come back stronger, I reckon. | :10:43. | :10:45.
You have. You have won this, people are going to look at this, because | :10:46. | :10:51.
this is a world class time. 60.24 was the time and that was just | :10:52. | :10:55.
sensational. Yes. Yes. Just another stepping stone on the road to the | :10:56. | :10:59.
Gold Coast and on to Tokyo from there. I hope to build on it. You | :11:00. | :11:05.
are an amazing athlete. I think you are shocked you have won there. I | :11:06. | :11:09.
wasn't expecting the time. Came up the straight and saw 60. I thought I | :11:10. | :11:14.
was looking at the wrong clock. You weren't looking at the wrong clock, | :11:15. | :11:18.
it was the right one, a great win, congratulations I am being told to | :11:19. | :11:22.
remind you I used to coach you at shinty and that is what made you | :11:23. | :11:29.
tougher. Shinty days! Callum, great run, I am delighted for you and for | :11:30. | :11:34.
your dad and brother. Great win. He is the winner, he is here and | :11:35. | :11:38.
relaxed and calm, but there is some out there still on the course, and | :11:39. | :11:45.
Jane is out with one of them. Wendy, you are part of Lauren's warrior, | :11:46. | :11:54.
why you doing it I am doing it for my daughter, she was diagnosed with | :11:55. | :11:58.
a hernia, she spent three weeks in intensive care. I am running all my | :11:59. | :12:03.
friends and family are involved. We have been doing it since January, | :12:04. | :12:07.
finishing today, we have raised 7,00 pounds. So we are buzz, it has been | :12:08. | :12:12.
a good year. And also raising wear of of what this is about. Yes, | :12:13. | :12:21.
raising awareness for CDH. CDH. It is not common. Anything we can do to | :12:22. | :12:26.
do our bit. This is your first half marathon, how you finding it, I | :12:27. | :12:31.
guess the fact you are, are doing it for a great cause keeps you going. I | :12:32. | :12:37.
was nervous about today. I, like all morning I was pacing the floor, as | :12:38. | :12:41.
soon as I got to start line, the atmosphere was just amazing. And | :12:42. | :12:47.
you, all the worries went out of the window. It is time to get tough, I | :12:48. | :12:51.
am not going to lie. I am just looking forward to getting to the | :12:52. | :12:54.
final stretch. You are on the final stretch. Half way to go. Keep going. | :12:55. | :12:59.
Can I say a massive thank you to all my friends and family, they are all | :13:00. | :13:02.
at the finishing line, I will be there as soon as I can. Thank you | :13:03. | :13:08.
Wendy, bye. She might be a while there, because | :13:09. | :13:11.
she is only half way round at the moment at poll horse, it is a long | :13:12. | :13:18.
way to go, she is -- Pollok Park. She is doing a good job and raising | :13:19. | :13:22.
a fortune for charity. You can see the heroes coming through the finish | :13:23. | :13:26.
line behind me, all of them proud of their effort, they should be. It is | :13:27. | :13:29.
not just about Sunday, this is an event that runs the whole weekend. | :13:30. | :13:33.
Yesterday was a sensational day as well. | :13:34. | :13:40.
I am raising money for the British Heart Foundation. | :13:41. | :13:56.
After running with young Darragh, I felt a bit faint, collapsed and | :13:57. | :14:00.
stonesibly died and was lucky enough to have a doctor next to me, | :14:01. | :14:05.
paramedics locally and survived against the odds. They have raced | :14:06. | :14:12.
over ?135, so they are doing very very good. | :14:13. | :14:22.
My name is Donna, this is my son, niece and brother-in-law. I am | :14:23. | :14:28.
running in memory of Graham Bryce, Donna's late husband, a wonderful | :14:29. | :14:36.
person. We are running for the accuse lowing respond lie us the | :14:37. | :14:39.
society. They do valuable work from people who suffer from the | :14:40. | :14:58.
This is Alice, Margaret, Emily, Jack, and Dougie. We are running for | :14:59. | :15:07.
the hospital's neonatal unit. When they were born they had a syndrome | :15:08. | :15:15.
which only affects identical twins. Basically, the hospital saved their | :15:16. | :15:19.
lives. We had a target initially of ?200. Today we have raised more than | :15:20. | :15:24.
?600, so they've done really well. Jack was diagnosed with to regroup | :15:25. | :15:43.
all the when he was six months old. Since he has gone from strength to | :15:44. | :15:52.
strength. -- cerebral palsy. He goes to football twice a week. I never | :15:53. | :15:55.
thought he would be able to go, but he has gone. He is very ambitious. | :15:56. | :16:03.
He likes any type of sport. He is just a normal boy. He needs SDR | :16:04. | :16:07.
surgery. It is cutting the nerves in his spine. We need ?70,000. The | :16:08. | :16:18.
operation itself is ?35,000. But we need continued physiotherapy the two | :16:19. | :16:22.
years afterwards. We are sitting at about ?4000 and we've only been | :16:23. | :16:25.
going two weeks. Some brilliant courses and some | :16:26. | :16:46.
fantastic stories. Not just today but throughout the entire weekend. | :16:47. | :16:51.
This is Scotland's biggest mass participation running event. And it | :16:52. | :16:56.
really has been all about fun and distance running for all ages. Just | :16:57. | :17:01.
as we have seen. There may be some stars of the future. We've seen some | :17:02. | :17:05.
magnificent performances from the likes of Callum Hawkins and Betsy | :17:06. | :17:10.
Saina, two course records, a new Scottish record for Callum Hawkins. | :17:11. | :17:14.
Meanwhile, these men and women are the beating heart of this event, | :17:15. | :17:18.
coming out of the shadow of the historic Maclennan arch. Making | :17:19. | :17:23.
their way towards the finish. Some still negotiating their way across | :17:24. | :17:27.
the magnificently nicknamed Squinty Bridge. So called because it goes | :17:28. | :17:31.
across the Clyde in a diagonal fashion. Fantastic words are used, | :17:32. | :17:36.
some very descriptive words used, here in Glasgow. There they are, | :17:37. | :17:43.
making their way towards the finish, some will have blisters, some will | :17:44. | :17:47.
be tired, some will say never again. Well, until they see online that the | :17:48. | :17:52.
applications are open the next year's Great Scottish Run on the 1st | :17:53. | :17:57.
of October 20 17th it is amazing how quickly you forget the difficult | :17:58. | :18:00.
part and you start remembering the great moment when you cross the | :18:01. | :18:03.
finish line here in one of the world's great cities. -- 2017. The | :18:04. | :18:11.
city is bathed in sunshine. They are ready to enjoy the fantastic | :18:12. | :18:15.
hospitality that has made Glasgow famous for so many years. And there | :18:16. | :18:23.
could not be a better accompanying theme tune as they come towards the | :18:24. | :18:32.
finish. If you have been with us all the way through our enjoyable | :18:33. | :18:35.
morning, you will be aware that David Curry spoke to Francis Gilroy. | :18:36. | :18:39.
We did not see his face because he was hidden beneath the mascot he was | :18:40. | :18:46.
carrying. He was posing as Harvey. The big question is, has he broken | :18:47. | :18:49.
the world record for the half marathon? It is currently held by | :18:50. | :18:59.
Bobby the Bee. Bobby the Bee will be holding his breath, because he is | :19:00. | :19:02.
still waiting to see if he is still the current record-holder. We can go | :19:03. | :19:07.
down to the finish. If you were watching earlier you may | :19:08. | :19:11.
have seen an interview we did with the Harvey, who is running for the | :19:12. | :19:15.
Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. He was hoping to break the | :19:16. | :19:19.
half marathon record, world record for mascots, and here he is. Harvey | :19:20. | :19:25.
has crossed the finish line. The big question is, did you do it? I did. | :19:26. | :19:33.
One hour and 34 minutes. Well done, quite a substantial chunk of the | :19:34. | :19:37.
existing record, I believe. Indeed, by about four minutes. I think it is | :19:38. | :19:42.
time we did the big reveal, show who the man is beneath the costume. He | :19:43. | :19:52.
was -- are you ready? Put it back on! | :19:53. | :19:57.
CHUCKLES What is next for you? The three | :19:58. | :20:03.
peaks and the London Marathon. Dressed as Harvey? I think we will | :20:04. | :20:09.
do it without Harvey this time. But we might take him for the trip. You | :20:10. | :20:13.
need to get in the shower and get him in the tumble drier, I think. | :20:14. | :20:18.
Thanks very much. Thank you, cheers, guys! Supreme effort. Amazing | :20:19. | :20:25.
everybody who has taken part. But to get a world record for a mascot and | :20:26. | :20:30.
radio fours -- raise a fortune to charity is fantastic. Well done to | :20:31. | :20:35.
everybody crossing the line. I like standing here on the Great Scottish | :20:36. | :20:39.
Run, because people are smiling. Ultimately very happy with what | :20:40. | :20:42.
they've done and so they should be. One of the great things about this | :20:43. | :20:45.
event is that they have Olympic heroes cheering them on. Let's | :20:46. | :20:51.
remind ourselves about what Karen Bennett did in Rio. It is the final. | :20:52. | :20:56.
Great Britain have a great chance. Great Britain easing out onto the | :20:57. | :21:05.
first, and to the second... Now the call will come. Great Britain in the | :21:06. | :21:10.
four, Canada in five, New Zealand in six. | :21:11. | :21:14.
At the moment they are still in last place. They are going to have to | :21:15. | :21:21.
really go. It looks like they can pick them off one by one. | :21:22. | :21:25.
The great British crew in bronze medal position. They will not settle | :21:26. | :21:29.
for that. This is your moment, Great Britain. These are the moments we | :21:30. | :21:34.
live for. The crowd are going mad. Are they going to go into the record | :21:35. | :21:37.
books with a medal? It looks like it will be silver. They have absolutely | :21:38. | :21:44.
done it. One word describes that, sensational. Absolutely sensational. | :21:45. | :21:53.
Karen, dancing and the poem -- on the podium and rightly so. Silver | :21:54. | :22:05.
with millimetres to spare. I know. Thinking about the race it was nerve | :22:06. | :22:10.
wracking. Every time I watch it I get butterflies in my tummy. I don't | :22:11. | :22:14.
know if you know, but we were last going through halfway mark. I was | :22:15. | :22:20.
never panicked, but I did think, I was aware of where we were. To come | :22:21. | :22:23.
through and get silver was incredible. You saw it was a photo | :22:24. | :22:31.
finish. Knowing that maybe you have got the bronze and you are waiting | :22:32. | :22:35.
for the ten seconds, and you don't know if you have the silver or the | :22:36. | :22:39.
bronze, and you think, well, for me, I thought we have the bronze. But to | :22:40. | :22:46.
be told we have the silver it was incredible. Absolutely fantastic. | :22:47. | :22:50.
Knowing you were in last place at halfway, how can you dig so deep to | :22:51. | :22:54.
get back to the point where you are challenging? I think with our crew | :22:55. | :23:00.
we had a lot of belief in our crew. Throughout the whole trialling | :23:01. | :23:04.
process and throughout the whole year we had a lot of testing and | :23:05. | :23:11.
trials. We did about 21 seat races to kind of decide on which ate it | :23:12. | :23:18.
was going to be. I think that came back to us all in that race. --. We | :23:19. | :23:26.
are such a tight unit. To have that belief and come back, knowing we | :23:27. | :23:31.
could do it together... None of us were panicked. But I think | :23:32. | :23:34.
everybody's parents would disagree with that. We had the belief. It was | :23:35. | :23:41.
real for us. It was good. And that belief ended up with you getting a | :23:42. | :23:45.
silver. I know you have been working here, being an ambassador over the | :23:46. | :23:49.
weekend. Trying to inspire people to do more in their sport. I'm sure | :23:50. | :23:55.
you've heard some amazing stories. Yeah, it's been incredible. So | :23:56. | :23:58.
inspirational for me to be here and see all of these people. They | :23:59. | :24:02.
probably train day in day out. They have all of the charities they are | :24:03. | :24:06.
representing. Some of them have just come to do it and that is their aim. | :24:07. | :24:12.
They train all year. And I think it is incredible. They inspire me to do | :24:13. | :24:16.
running. I almost feel bad and not doing any exercise today. I take my | :24:17. | :24:20.
hat off to them, they are all inspirational and just really, | :24:21. | :24:24.
really good. Congratulations. Thank you for coming on. Sensational. | :24:25. | :24:28.
David is behind us at the finish with a fellow who has run with some | :24:29. | :24:34.
divine intervention. Ladies and gentlemen, I have the | :24:35. | :24:37.
first member of the clergy to cross the finish line. It is Ian the mad | :24:38. | :24:41.
Monk. You are not a real one, are you? No. What possessed you? I have | :24:42. | :24:49.
the world record for the fastest marathon runner dressed as a monk. I | :24:50. | :24:56.
thought as it is my hometown I would go for it. There is not a world | :24:57. | :25:01.
record for that, is there? Yes, three hours and 27 minutes, and that | :25:02. | :25:07.
hopefully me double it up. Just made it by 30 seconds. Is there a lot of | :25:08. | :25:11.
competition in the monk running races? The nun is more popular. It | :25:12. | :25:22.
is difficult. I might give it a go one day. This is a special day for | :25:23. | :25:29.
you, wait, I forgot that you are not a real monk. | :25:30. | :25:30.
LAUGHTER Yeah, might have a few drinks. I | :25:31. | :25:35.
would like to have a shout out the Craig Brown and Davy Jones. Thanks, | :25:36. | :25:39.
guys. You are sorted for a Halloween costume. Yes, my wardrobe is full of | :25:40. | :25:45.
crazy outfits. I really enjoyed it today. It was great. Great support, | :25:46. | :25:51.
great city. Well done and well done in the record. Thank you. | :25:52. | :25:57.
It truly is a fantastic day in Glasgow. The sun is shining. It is | :25:58. | :26:02.
roasting hot. It does not feel like October. Lots of smiles from people | :26:03. | :26:07.
coming over the line, lots of reasons for taking part, and for | :26:08. | :26:10.
Holly and Chris it is particularly poignant and emotional. | :26:11. | :26:17.
Hamish was diagnosed with cancer in February of last year. We started | :26:18. | :26:29.
treatment down in Glasgow after the diagnosis was confirmed he had stage | :26:30. | :26:38.
four. He began treatment. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, | :26:39. | :26:46.
all taking place in Glasgow. It is definitely any parent 's worst | :26:47. | :26:50.
nightmare. We knew what Hamish was facing. We knew the odds were | :26:51. | :26:54.
against him. But we also knew we had to keep him going. We were actually | :26:55. | :27:04.
between treatment. We were back home in Aberdeen at the time. We had to | :27:05. | :27:09.
go into hospital because Hamish wasn't feeling too good, feeling a | :27:10. | :27:13.
bit poorly. We went to the hospital in Aberdeen. And that evening, very | :27:14. | :27:18.
suddenly, Hamish passed away within the blink of an eye. We thought we | :27:19. | :27:26.
were going into hospital with a sore belly, and we left without our boy. | :27:27. | :27:37.
And it was... Just your worst nightmare as a parent, to leave | :27:38. | :27:43.
without your boy. Hamish was a very funny, cheeky, outgoing little boy. | :27:44. | :27:50.
He was just developing his own personality. Yeah, he was very kind | :27:51. | :28:00.
and happy. What Hamish passed away we started to do a bit of running. | :28:01. | :28:09.
Get a bit of head space. And about February, March time, we noticed | :28:10. | :28:14.
there was a run taking place in Glasgow, a half marathon, and I | :28:15. | :28:17.
decided I was going to sign up for it. And it just so happens that it | :28:18. | :28:22.
was going through Pollok Park, and I thought it was perfect because | :28:23. | :28:25.
Pollok Park, to us, meant so much. We spent so many days here when | :28:26. | :28:32.
Hamish was allowed off. We couldn't think of a better place to run | :28:33. | :28:38.
through. I have thought about it. It is either going to be difficult, you | :28:39. | :28:46.
know, knowing where I am, but I feel it is going to be quite a positive, | :28:47. | :28:51.
kind of, feeling when I am running through it. Because whenever I do | :28:52. | :28:55.
run a lot of times I feel like Hamish is with me, or Hamish is | :28:56. | :29:00.
watching, keeping an eye on his daddy, making sure he does it | :29:01. | :29:05.
properly. He will be here, sparing you one, throughout Pollok Park. | :29:06. | :29:12.
When Hamish passed away we set up a charity in his name. As a charity we | :29:13. | :29:24.
provide vouchers, which can be accessed by the children and the | :29:25. | :29:29.
cancer ward. A lot of our memories are being out with the hospital and | :29:30. | :29:32.
doing things with him. And we were just like other families and their | :29:33. | :29:38.
children to be able to make those memories. They don't have to worry | :29:39. | :29:41.
about the cost, they don't have to worry about the finances, and they | :29:42. | :29:43.
can make happy memories, as well. Well distance running is not just | :29:44. | :29:59.
about fitness and times it is sometimes about people finding a | :30:00. | :30:03.
reason and a way to carry on through the most terrible personal tragedy | :30:04. | :30:09.
and loss, Hamish remembered in the best possible way. Well, the spirit | :30:10. | :30:15.
of this great city shines through even the most difficult of | :30:16. | :30:21.
circumstances, and shine it has done today, in fabulous sunshine. So many | :30:22. | :30:26.
still out on this great course, that has seen records set. It has been a | :30:27. | :30:33.
day of history here in Glasgow. Some brilliant journeys still coming to | :30:34. | :30:37.
an end. Some having to stop for a walk. I am sure there will be one or | :30:38. | :30:41.
two encouraging words from those on the sidelines. | :30:42. | :30:46.
Willing them to get to the finish, maybe a pint or an orange juice. | :30:47. | :30:53.
There is the McLellan Arch. The oldest artefact on the green. | :30:54. | :30:58.
And there is great work that happens here on the green, there is the | :30:59. | :31:05.
Clyde. Looking absolutely resplendent and magnificent here in | :31:06. | :31:09.
this sunshine. What a place and what a day to come and run 13.1 miles or | :31:10. | :31:18.
10k. We will hear from someone who is taking part for the 16th year in | :31:19. | :31:22.
a re. Now that is pretty impressive I am sure you will agree. Even more | :31:23. | :31:30.
so that she is 75 years old. My name is Rose and this is my run. | :31:31. | :31:44.
I am running for the Beatson clinic charity. I started running result of | :31:45. | :31:49.
my poor familiry history of heart attacks. My father died of a cardiac | :31:50. | :31:56.
arrest when he was 66 and my older brother was also 66. So when I got | :31:57. | :32:02.
to be 60 I thought, maybe I should do something about this. I can't | :32:03. | :32:06.
help my genetic make up, but I can do something about keeping myself | :32:07. | :32:12.
fit. So, I started by noticing a poster | :32:13. | :32:19.
on Glasgow subway, it was a tenth anniversary of the women's 10k, and | :32:20. | :32:23.
the poster was a pair of training shoes, and underneath it simply | :32:24. | :32:28.
said, get them on. And I thought, I couldn't possibly do that. However, | :32:29. | :32:36.
I signed up for it, and I did it. I had no idea what to expect, but | :32:37. | :32:40.
going through that finish line, the first time was wonderful, I thought | :32:41. | :32:43.
if I can do that once, I can keep on doing it. | :32:44. | :32:49.
I am 75, so this will be my 16th year. I should like to think that I | :32:50. | :32:54.
could keep on going, for a good number of years yet, some people do | :32:55. | :32:58.
say that I am an inspiration, I don't think of myself as that, but | :32:59. | :33:04.
if I could encourage other people to take more physical exercise, that | :33:05. | :33:07.
would be, that would be satisfaction enough. | :33:08. | :33:20.
Doesn't Glasgow look superb here this afternoon. The people's Palace | :33:21. | :33:26.
here at Glasgow Green. There couldn't be a better advert for the | :33:27. | :33:31.
city. Conditions have been perfect for distance running here today. | :33:32. | :33:35.
There has been barely a breath of wind. Nice and cool. When the fog | :33:36. | :33:41.
cleared, conditions became absolutely perfect. If you are | :33:42. | :33:44.
sitting at home and you have been inspired by the great athletes and | :33:45. | :33:49.
the joggers and the fun runners and all the big stories. Please come and | :33:50. | :33:54.
join us next year, and who knows, maybe you too will be greeted as a | :33:55. | :34:00.
hero beneath the McLellan Arch. The entries are open. There is no | :34:01. | :34:05.
excuse, put down that big cake, put that cup of tea down, get online and | :34:06. | :34:11.
come and join us for this fabulous party, the Great Scottish Run 2017, | :34:12. | :34:17.
Sunday October 1st, make a decision. However slowly you will be here to | :34:18. | :34:22.
join us next year. It doesn't matter how slowly you run, if you have | :34:23. | :34:28.
never run a step in your life, go online, you have a couple of | :34:29. | :34:32.
training guides, you run for a minute, you walk for a minute. Don't | :34:33. | :34:37.
think about the 13.1 miles just think about the first step, because | :34:38. | :34:42.
every journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step and yours could | :34:43. | :34:44.
be tomorrow. The shots of Glasgow are fantastic. | :34:45. | :35:00.
When you see the City and the greenery, and you see the | :35:01. | :35:03.
development along the river, and you see the attitude of need today there | :35:04. | :35:07.
is a slogan which says people make Glasgow, well, you can see it and | :35:08. | :35:11.
feel it and breathe it today, people do make this great City of Glasgow. | :35:12. | :35:20.
Didn't we see that and enjoy that two years ago when Glasgow played | :35:21. | :35:24.
host to one of the most memorable editions of the Commonwealth Game, I | :35:25. | :35:28.
remember a great shot of Billy Connolly moving up the Clyde on the | :35:29. | :35:33.
back a little rig, saying come on in, you're most welcome. | :35:34. | :35:46.
As the slogan tells you, it really is the people that make Glasgow and | :35:47. | :35:54.
here is yet another tale of inspiration behind the motives and | :35:55. | :35:59.
the reasons that so many people have come out to join Scotland's biggest | :36:00. | :36:06.
mass participation event in 2016. My name is Nelson and this is my run. | :36:07. | :36:14.
I'm a teacher, which is sometimes fun, but I teach young people with | :36:15. | :36:18.
social and emotional behavioural difficulties. I run for fun, health, | :36:19. | :36:26.
changed my life completely, changed my lifestyle completely and it has | :36:27. | :36:31.
been great benefit to me. In the last five-and-a-half years I | :36:32. | :36:36.
lost seven stone, I was a much bigger physical shape, so I started | :36:37. | :36:40.
walking, running a bit. Feel like a completely different person. | :36:41. | :36:49.
The organisation I have set sip JAPES. Came from a site I saw and | :36:50. | :36:59.
the marathon, 2014, I saw a modified wheelchair being used to allow young | :37:00. | :37:04.
people with disability to experience the thrill and atmosphere of the big | :37:05. | :37:08.
city race the marathon was, when I saw that, it was a deeply moving | :37:09. | :37:13.
thing for everyone, for me, fellow runners, people watching on the | :37:14. | :37:17.
sideline, I thought it would be a fantastic thing to bring to | :37:18. | :37:21.
Scotland. Family and friends have been really supportive. Neighbours | :37:22. | :37:26.
have been fantastic, people at school and people generosity has | :37:27. | :37:30.
been terrific. I am so happy that we are launching | :37:31. | :37:37.
the project. The atmosphere in Glasgow is terrific, I have run it a | :37:38. | :37:42.
few times and every runner who is on the team has said the same thing. | :37:43. | :37:46.
What a run to launch this one. I am looking forward to that. It will be | :37:47. | :37:50.
emotional, of course, two-and-a-half years I have had this dream and it | :37:51. | :37:56.
will be terrific to see it realised. We have nine people in the team, and | :37:57. | :38:02.
the rules will be, just to get this and ourself round the course in the | :38:03. | :38:07.
chair, two pilotings we have a guy called Alan, he is 42. Has cerebral | :38:08. | :38:11.
palsy. He will do the first half of the course. At the half way mark, a | :38:12. | :38:17.
girl of 24 Gemma is coming on. She suffers from cerebral palsy, she | :38:18. | :38:21.
really looking forward to it. To know someone is getting the | :38:22. | :38:24.
experience that you never thought they would experience, is going to | :38:25. | :38:28.
be rewarding. One of the things like about this is the able-bodied | :38:29. | :38:33.
community linking with the community who face challenges we don't | :38:34. | :38:36.
normally face, and also, hopefully a big boost to self confidence. I know | :38:37. | :38:42.
running has boosted my own. Nelson explained to us what is going | :38:43. | :38:50.
on. Fantastic team effort. This is JAPES. We are letting young people, | :38:51. | :38:56.
adults with a mobility issue to eexperience the thrill in an event. | :38:57. | :38:59.
What sort of reaction have you been getting from people along the route. | :39:00. | :39:03.
I imagine big cheers when they see you? Great big cheers. The people in | :39:04. | :39:08.
Glasgow are fantastic support. When you see a caused like this it is | :39:09. | :39:14.
truly inclusive. They go hand in hand, amazing.? You are raising as | :39:15. | :39:18.
much money as you can to get more of these? It is the result of a | :39:19. | :39:25.
campaign over the summer, but the fundraising goes on, you get our | :39:26. | :39:33.
page. There is links to our current funding page and it goes on and on. | :39:34. | :39:37.
This is the launch event and there will be many more. Well done, hats | :39:38. | :39:41.
off to you. It can't be easy. Good on you. It is easy with a great boss | :39:42. | :39:46.
like Alan. Good stuff. Brilliant, thanks for | :39:47. | :39:51.
talking to us. You are half way there, keep going. | :39:52. | :40:00.
This young gentleman is called Lewis, what is that? A medal. A | :40:01. | :40:06.
medal. Who won that. Me. You won it, did you. What did you do? A family | :40:07. | :40:15.
mile. Thought it was your dad's medal. He has not picked his up. You | :40:16. | :40:20.
have completed the half marathon, well done. Thank you. How did it go. | :40:21. | :40:28.
It went well. My iPod went after two songs. What songs? Dance music. No | :40:29. | :40:35.
Deacon Blue or any of that rubbish. No. How did you get round it without | :40:36. | :40:41.
your music? I just kept doing my watch, using my pacemaker, so I | :40:42. | :40:47.
concentrated more on my running.some you mean on your watch. Yes. So is | :40:48. | :40:53.
this your first half marathon? No I did the Great North Run three weeks' | :40:54. | :41:01.
ago, so that didn't go well. He done a half marathon. Are you | :41:02. | :41:10.
going to do one one day. Yes I have already done the family mile. You | :41:11. | :41:14.
are some boy! Well done. You go and get your medal. Absolutely fantastic | :41:15. | :41:20.
stuff. Did he say Deacon Blue are rubbish? A man of great style and | :41:21. | :41:25.
taste. That is almost it from the Great Scottish Run 2016. We will be | :41:26. | :41:30.
back with some sport this afternoon, The Adventure Show is on at 4.50. We | :41:31. | :41:36.
will have sports seen with the Premiership action today at 6pm and | :41:37. | :41:41.
repeated tonight at 11.50pm. Let me tell you something about something | :41:42. | :41:47.
