World Singles Semi-Final Bowls World Indoor Championships

Well come at two partners for the semi-finals of the men's singles.

This week we have had shot after shot cleaning at the line-up for

the last four does not include the usual suspects.

Some art bowl favourites have left the competition after a series of

unexplained results. Five-times World Singles champion

has gone, it is unbelievable! are all shocked here. World No. 2,

Greg Harlow joins all of the other champions out of the competition.

The jury is still out on the identity of the 2012 champion

following yesterday's quarter- finals. They are for quality

Evidence is mounting and we are getting closer to a a verdict for

today's semi-final line-up. The Sir, Although we have lost some of

the favourites, there is still plenty of quality left for the

men's singles. David Gourlay takes on the Welstead wizard, Jason

Greenslade. One man who has been privileged

enough to see it all on the BBC has been David Corkill. Alongside him

today is the 1990 champion, John Price.

Thank you. It has been a fascinating week with the top seeds

going out. It has been interesting. This souvenir will be very precious.

Is this year it unique? Yes. It has been a good championship with good

bowls played. Other people have been coming in asking who will win.

We have absolutely no idea. This is so wide open.

So, time for the semi-final between Andy Thompson and Darren Burnett.

the world circuit. A former International Open and twice

singles champion, Ladies and And it is always a pleasure to

welcome this popular man from Scotland. A former international

and Welsh International Open champion. Ladies and gentlemen,

Darren Burnett, 35 year-old Darren Burnett, 35 year-old

policeman has been around the game a very long time. Four-times world

under 25 indoor champion. A lot of people very happy when he turned 26.

But also an excellent performer on the World Bowls Tour. Represented

Scotland for many years. Both at world events and Commonwealth Games.

The all-round player indoors and outdoors, Darren Burnett. Andy

Thomson aged 56, the most capped indoor player in England. I was

going to say the most capped Englishman, but he may not

appreciate me saying that being an out and out Scott. He had been

representing England ever since he short. I have to say, we have seen

an appetite with Andy Thomson. He has been watching the tournament

unfold and, as you know, some years you just get it where various

people start to drop. Exactly right. Andy is playing solid bowls. Very

consistent. He has played well himself. Slight fancy myself for

the old man today. He went appreciate me calling him an old

man, but he has been on good form. He would expect you to say it.

you are going to put yourself in the position of winning tournaments,

sport always prefer to be out there involved rather than up here

smooth delivery action, unique style into a crouch position, back

of the mat, keeps low, head still, very smooth.

would have expected Andy to have faced.

possibility that Darren would use some weight on this. Any movement

Scottish titles, Darren Burnett. National pairs playing in the

British Isles in March in Swansea representing Scotland. A good feel

Some players have several and try them all out on the rink in

Jack and not follow through with it. Difficult decision. That is what

you are left with when you play too short bowls for your first two

deliveries. To be frank, at the moment he is not drawing well

enough to draw the shot out right. This is risky. He needs the bowl,

not the jack. He has got it. What is he doing with the jack? A, he

held on to it. No, he may have just run off. I think it is still want

you can see he gets the bowl and a little bit of the jack in the run

the red. If Andy is able to play this just on the high side, he will

maybe even three out of it. I think he wants half contact on the red.

Move the green and then through. It is an opportunity. It is not an

CROWD GROANS. Andy has played a lot of good bowls in the early stage of

this much. I wonder if he is getting frustrated. He can't really

afford to do that. Darren is not banning him on the jack. He did

very well to come back and taking it. This one looks as though it is

struggling a little bit. Toiling towards the end of its trouble. --

Andy. A morale-booster if he can draw the shot. Once again, right on

the outside of the mat to help the bowl give back. Can afford to go a

little wider when you use the match like that and died in very quick at

all the way through, I would suggest. If he gets it absolutely

He was so close with the third bowl. The problem is, you do not want to

overplay this and be too keen to get there. Needs to bend quick.

really. He was very unfortunate and got the inside of the red. He has

played it well on a good line. The bowl is bending, just needs to come

a touch quicker. Still a couple down. Disappointment for Andy and

he is showing it there. I can't blame him. He has cut one of,

though. Darren Burnett on the backhand are trying to drop his own

bowl down to make a three or slide in the gap. Not particularly easy.

He is in the area. Very close, Dave, very close with this. Oh, yes. That

looks good. Fought really good bowls from Darren Burnett. It looks

as though he has levelled the scores. MARKER: three shots to

Darren Burnett. He has indeed. Scores on the doors, all macro all.

Darren Burnett. Look at that, goodness me. I think that is really

based on probably the last two shops on the first set. Darren

Burnett 188 shots to six. It is really just the one end that is

that Andy might have missed his opportunity in that first set.

Darren has really gone into some good form now. Andy Thomson needs

to work hard if he is going to get back. It is four all, but Darren is

quite sure of that one. He is just on the edge of getting back. You

can almost see the bowl holding their. Two-thirds of its travel,

you are expecting it to whip back and it is just holding off. It has

been a characteristic of this it is going to be close with this

they are not helping his cause. Darren does not want to bring the

jack out into the open. Just shade it. Marked by the it sprayed chalk.

That means if that bowl goes in the ditch, it will stay alive. If the

bowl goes into the ditch and does not touch the jack on their travel

forehand to draw around the red bowls, but it is not worth it.

Anything deep would be good. Well, he is going back can so he will

cover the spot on that hand. I would have been tempted to cover

the spot on the other side. In case the outside of the green bowl is

hit, but he has the last delivery so he is safe enough. Darren

Burnett has to think about this because if it goes wrong, he could

lose a four. At the moment, two down. He has to be very careful. He

goes again. I would be more inclined to try to think about this

another. A little bits of danger if he caught the side of the green

bowl, it doesn't want to move the jack. I think it is a forehand shot.

There is hardly a spare opportunity, with only three or four inches away

with the short red one. It is not Andy happy to take the double. He

leapfrogs into the lead. Two ends to go. Back in charge. He just

needs to score this end, Andy Thomson, and he is in with a great

chance of forcing this through to a with the film very high on the bowl.

Very few players have that grip. -- this match has been very

interesting. It has slowed down a lot in the second set. It is now
