-..recently hosted a big event

-in Llandegla Forest.

-Llandegla Woods, Denbighshire

-This is the first round of the WMBS

-- the Welsh Mountain Bike Series.

-It's in North Wales.

-Over 200 have entered.

-It was snowing

-when we were preparing last week.

-We were 50/50 about the weather

-but it's great.

-Llandegla

-is famous for its single tracks.

-It's a good trail centre.

-One of the best in North Wales.

-Conditions are tough.

-It's wet in places and steep.

-We're expecting the race

-to suit fit and fast riders.

-It's not too technical

-so it'll be a fast race.

-The young riders were up first.

-The first stage was challenging

-for the under 16 boys.

-They climbed a 500-metre hill...

-..to get to the top

-of the Llandegla woods.

-Two came

-to the front from the start...

-..Craig Rogers from Birkenhead North

-End in the red and white jersey...

-..and Sol Kerfoot-Robson from

-St Asaph in the white and blue.

-Huw Higgins-Worrall from

-Abergavenny Club was third early on.

-The course was challenging as the

-The muddy corner at the bottom of

-this hill caused problems for many.

-Caution was needed.

-looked very comfortable.

-His fans told him

-that the gap was widening.

-..it was an eventful race for Sol.

-However, he's ready for anything.

-It's just a thrill.

-I'm racing in the youth category.

-I've been racing for over ten years.

-Riding all disciplines,

-mainly mountain bike.

-Competing at British level

-and Welsh level.

-I've represented Wales

-a couple of times.

-I'm hoping to do the same this year.

-People think

-you don't take the environment in.

-It definitely helps. It motivates

-you being in such nice surroundings.

-It'll be a test of fitness

-as there's not much chance to rest.

-It's all full-on.

-You've got big slogs

-through the woods.

-Lots of climbing,

-lots of descending...

-..which will test your skills

-and fitness.

-Back to the youth race.

-Huw Higgins-Worrall was still third.

-Timothy Freeman from Corris won.

-Coed Y Brenin Dragons club.

-couldn't catch Craig Rogers.

-It gives you confidence

-The Sport Women next.

-She's a young girl with amazing

-skills on a mountain bike.

-She's been helped out

-by Tracy Moseley...

-This is my first

-cross-country race of the season.

-I'm using it

-to get into my racing speed.

-It'll be tough racing which

-is the reason I've come up here.

-It's not only for the track but

-because girls like that are racing.

-The start of the season or not,

-the picture was clear at the start.

-Martha Gill sped into the lead.

-Katie Hesden from the youth category

-put her stamp on the race too.

-Although Maxine Filby said that

-Martha Gill was the big danger...

-..Martha was moved to a lower

-category due to a lack of points.

-She had one lap less to do.

-She took the chance to prove herself

-over the first four laps.

-Maxine was in the lead by the second

-corner into the forest.

-The pattern on the second lap

-Filby stretched her lead.

-There are only six years

-since the 36-year-old...

-..gave mountain biking

-a serious go.

-She was a jockey before then.

-She developed very quickly.

-Before long she was competing

-at world level.

-has been competing for 12 years.

-She's trained by Tracy Moseley,

-ex-downhill world champion...

-..and the present enduro champion.

-After starting the under-16 race

-quickly...

-..no-one was going to catch

-Katie Hesden.

-She completed the three laps

-in 58 minutes 13 seconds.

-Three minutes separated

-Maxine Filby and Martha Gill...

-..by the fourth lap

-of the main race.

-Gill's race was almost over

-in the lower category.

-She finished

-10 minutes quicker than the rest.

-It's a really tough course.

-It was flat out all the time.

-You were going flat out

-up the fire roads.

-When we went on some fresh-cut

-stuff, that worked the whole body.

-It was really bumpy.

-You had to pump through it all.

-Keep momentum, keep pedalling.

-It was really tough

-but good fun as well.

-Maxine Filby had an extra lap

-in the Elite category.

-She completed the 23.5km

-in 1 hour 29 minutes.

-She came first in the main category.

-It was really hard work.

-I had Martha right on my wheel.

-In mountain biking

-anything can happen.

-You can lose a chain

-or get a puncture.

-You've got to keep pushing

-all of the way.

-You can't give yourself a break.

-You can't think,

-I'm out in front, I'm fine.

-stayed ahead in the Elite category.

-He looked comfortable

-on every section of the course.

-Lee Grafton was doing well to

-stay within sight of the leader.

-This little muddy corner continued

-to be a problem for competitors.

-The lad from St Asaph

-negotiated it with ease however.

-Phil Roberts and James Heaton were

-the leading riders in Sport Men.

-Another Welshman was chasing hard,

-Ifan Richards from Dolgellau.

-The 38-year-old has re-emerged

-in the sport after a long break.

-He was holding his place in sixth.

-By the second lap, Kerfoot-Robson

-had a lead of 37 seconds.

-He was busy lapping competitors

-in the other categories.

-Not everyone enjoyed watching him

-flying past on the muddy corners.

-I enjoy the freedom.

-Mountain-biking is a way

-to get away from everyday life.

-Pick anywhere you want to ride,

-point that way and just go.

-If there's a road or not, no limits.

-I'm Dylan Kerfoot-Robson and I'll be

-taking part in the Elite Men Race.

-Over the years I've narrowed down

-The courses in the competitions are

-hard enough for the elite riders.

-One of the rounds

-is the Welsh championships.

-I hope to defend my elite title.

-I hope I come away with a win.

-35 minutes up the valley for me.

-It's a pretty amazing venue really.

-It has everything

-He had a lead of 18 seconds.

-The course was leaving its marks

-..who had a commanding lead

-with two laps left.

-He was still looking

-strong and comfortable...

-..as he overtook some racers

-from a different category.

-They couldn't believe his pace

-as he swept past them.

-Despite his tiring legs Ifan

-Richards was hanging on to sixth.

-Lee Grafton wasn't making any ground

-on Dylan in the elite race.

-Kerfoot-Robson was still racking up

-They didn't all look quite

-as relaxed as the leading man.

-Phil Roberts was also making a brave

-However, he had to accept that

-James Heaton had won the category.

-Ifan Richards may have been

-..but his time was also respectable

-considering he was back...

-..after a long break from the sport.

-The two Welshmen were pleased.

-and I didn't know what to expect.

-I finished second.

-I was pleased with that.

-Better than expected.

-I've been out of mountain-biking

-for a while.

-It was fast

-and intense at the start.

-My training has been focussed

-on long distances.

-As the race progressed

-I was feeling stronger.

-There was one extra lap

-for the Elite Men.

-Dylan Kerfoot-Robson remained

-comfortably ahead at the front.

-Lee Grafton was second.

-After a few seasons

-of building his reputation...

-..2016 could be

-a big year for Kerfoot-Robson.

-The biggest races of the season

-If he continues to go this well

-he'll make a huge impression.

-He finished with a massive lead with
