-It's an exciting time for you with

-a big fight coming up in London.

-How are things going?

-Things are going really well.

-I'm training hard at the moment.

-I'm training three times a day,

-six days a week, so I'm very busy.

-I also have to lose a lot of weight

-before the fight.

-Everything's going well.

-I'll be fighting a lad from England.

-I know the Welsh rugby team couldn't

-do the job, so I'm going to do it.

-Wales against England.

-You're not the only one who needs

-to lose weight! Let's move on.

-We have a lot to talk about.

-Next, Laura Deas,

-the Welsh Skeleton racer.

-She'll be competing in the World

-Championships in Germany next week.

-Our first question was how do you

-even start doing a sport like that?

-I entered a UK Sport talent search

-called 'Girls for Gold' in 2008.

-At the time I was interested

-in trying a new sport...

-..but I didn't know if any

-would be interested in me.

-I went along to the testing

-and then a couple of weeks later...

-..I had a letter saying

-come down to Bath and try Skeleton.

-At that point

-I didn't know what Skeleton was.

-They included a helpful little DVD

-to let us know what we'd be trying.

-That's how it found me.

-I used to three day event.

-It may not be obvious

-but there's a lot of crossover...

-..between riding and Skeleton.

-Both sports has an element of

-feeling what's going on beneath you.

-You make quick decisions and need

-good balance, timing and rhythm.

-My background in riding helped me

-take to Skeleton quite quickly.

-You have the push start at the top

-and the driving on the sled.

-The push start is all about

-being fast and explosive.

-The sled has to move from stationary

-to as much velocity as possible.

-That gives you the initial speed.

-I've always had

-a really strong start.

-That's the main tool in my armoury.

-Over the last few years

-my driving has really progressed.

-Recently, some of my best results

-have comes on courses...

-..that are meant to favour the

-drivers rather than the pushers.

-Over time, the more proficient you

-get the more you learn to enjoy it.

-It's about being

-really calm under pressure.

-You need to be subtle and gentle.

-It's about finding calm in a storm.

-Seventh place at the World Champs...

-..a couple of years ago

-was a turning point.

-That was my first year on World Cup.

-After that was winning the World Cup

-in Altenburg last year.

-Not only was it the first time

-I'd won a World Cup race...

-..it was also at a track which is

-renowned for being very technical...

-..dangerous and with

-a very difficult push...

-..and a strong home advantage

-for the German team.

-I don't think anybody thought

-somebody was going to get in...

-..and finish higher

-than a German on that day.

-To do that was really special.

-What Lizzy's done for the sport over

-the last four years is incredible.

-The fact that she went to Sochi

-and won that Gold Medal.

-She is now coming back

-and preparing to defend that.

-It's a really good thing for our

-sport.

-On a personal level,

-she's a good friend of mine.

-We push each other on

-in a really positive way.

-Neither of us can rest

-on our laurels.

-We're always looking for

-ways to improve.

-Apart from the World

-Championships...

-..this year is

-about building for the Olympics.

-Going back to Konigssee is

-definitely going to be a challenge.

-I did not have a great time there

-in January.

-Having said that, every time I come

-to a track, it's a fresh challenge.

-The ice and the weather

-is always slightly different.

-There are all these variables

-to play into the whole picture.

-Similar to the Olympics, you have

-to be consistent over four runs...

-..which is harder than over two.

-The sport is measured down

-to the 100th of a second.

-If the first day has gone well,

-badly or somewhere in the middle...

-..you have to go away,

-refocus and come back the next day.

-I want to win a medal.

-I go into every race

-wanting to win a medal.

-If I don't win a medal,

-I'll be disappointed...

-..but that's what I'm aiming for.

-You fight in a cage,

-but would you do what Laura does?

-Walking into the cage

-is tame compared to that.

-Your next fight

-How big an occasion will this be,

-Brett?

-Belfast back in November

-was a big occasion for me.

-But this will be bigger again.

-It's in London, at the O2.

-It will be a very hard fight.

-I think I'm a better boxer and

-wrestler on the ground...

-..but Ian is good at the foot locks.

-He's world class,

-so I have to be wary of that.

-You've been doing mixed martial arts

-and you've stepped up bit by bit.

-Now you've reached the UFC. It's

-been an incredible journey for you.

-I finished work about three

-or four years ago.

-I train full time now - three times

-a day, six days a week.

-It's a lot of work.

-I've got one dream,

-and that's to wear the UFC belt.

-It's going to take time and

-a lot of hard work.

-I'm ready for this job now.

-You stopped working as a builder

-and decided to go for it.

-You got the call to join the UFC,

-the pinnacle of mixed martial arts.

-How important was getting that call

-and that chance?

-I go to bed every night and dream

-about joining the UFC.

-I was crying on the phone.

-It was huge for me.

-I'm enjoying the journey now.

-It's great that Wales comes with me

-to every fight.

-I saw you in Belfast

-wrapped in the red dragon.

-You have a lot of supporters.

-It looked like a great night.

-It was the first time you competed

-in the UFC too.

-It must have been a big night

-for you.

-It was an excellent fight too.

-I was fighting a lad from South

-Korea, Kwan Ho Kwak.

-He beat me in the third round.

-It was an excellent fight.

-At the end, all my fans were asking

-for photos.

-It was an emotional time for me. It

-took me eight years to get there.

-It's a chance now for me to keep the

-momentum going.

-I hope one day to achieve that belt.

-Your career is developing,

-but the UFC is developing too.

-It's getting bigger all the time.

-Going back two years, not many

-people had heard of the sport.

-But it's got very big in America.

-How big do you think

-the UFC could get?

-I think it's going

-to take over from boxing.

-Stars such as Conor McGregor have

-helped the Celts in Britain.

-You've met him, haven't you?

-Yes, he's a great man. He wished me

-good luck before the fight.

-He's an inspiration to everyone

-in Ireland.

-I hope I can do the same

-for everyone in Wales.

-He's become a superstar. He's raised

-the profile of the sport.

-As his status rises,

-so does the status of the sport.

-quite a while now.

-for three or four years.

-He's a big name. I hope they can put

-I started thinking about coaching

-when I was 23 or 24 years of age.

-I left Wolves after eight years.

-I joined Portsmouth.

-Harry Redknapp was the manager,

-a colourful character.

-I decided then to start taking notes

-of everything.

-From that moment onwards, my black

-book collection came alive.

-I think I've got

-about 15 or 16 black books.

-The plan was always

-to be a coach at 24.

-At 29, when I moved,

-I was very lucky to get involved...

-..with Osian Roberts and the Welsh

-Football coach education course.

-I started my licences.

-I completed my pro-licence

-when I was at New York Red Bulls.

-I was ready, I just didn't know when

-the chance would come...

-..and when I wanted

-to take the chance.

-Carl as a manager

-is like he was as a player.

-He was a player who

-thought deeply about the game.

-He could read the game well.

-He did the quiet things,

-the important things.

-They're vital in any team.

-He was the type of player who was

-willing to do the hard work...

-..so that the star players

-could perform.

-Carl played for Wales 52 times.

-He scored once,

-against Northern Ireland.

-He was one

-of the few experienced players...

-..who stayed loyal to Wales

-when John Toshack was in charge.

-I have nothing but praise

-for John Toshack.

-He was the one who started it.

-There were a lot of retirements.

-He was dealing with a lot of

-nonsense that was going on.

-He put the building blocks in place.

-Gary Speed then continued to evolve

-these younger players.

-Chris taking over from Gary

-has continued that again.

-All three deserve a lot of credit.

-Seeing the Euros and what Wales

-achieved as a small country...

-..made people

-sit up and take notice.

-When you've got superstar players

-like Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey...

-..and Joe Allen, it puts a smile

-on my face knowing that when...

-..we went through the bad times

-people were quick to jump...

-..on the bandwagon and criticise

-not just now when it's good.

-There's no doubt that the man from

-mid-Wales is proud of his roots.

-He's a keen ambassador as he makes

-his mark in North America.

-I wonder if he has one eye on home

-as he begins another season in MLS?

-It'll be interesting what Carl's

-next step will be after Vancouver.

-I'm sure that in the future

-he'll have one eye...

-..on the main job in Wales,

-the job of Wales manager.

-I'm sure a time will come

-when Carl will get that honour.

-Because of his work,

-because how conscientious he is.

-He will be very careful

-how he develops his career.

-He'll take it step by step

-to succeed as a manager.

-I think everyone has a ultimate

-goal. I'm no different.

-If I didn't have aspirations
