Day 7 Darts: World Championships - Highlights

Good evening, you are in time for highlights of two quarter finals

from the Lakeside. As Friday, the 13th, calls for a close, let's see

if Ted Hankey drew more blood or were they sent to a watery grave by

Martin ate kins. It was going to be tough against Scott Waites. He's a

great player. Every game will be harder, games will be longer. I

have known Martin a long time, we had great battles in the past.

the years we've become good friends. People think Ted's, I don't know,

Mr Nasty sort of thing. That's the stage act. Away from the stage he's

a lovely guy. When I came through he gave me advice and stuff. I have

a lot of respect for him. Martin is a great player. We go way back. He

beat. Maybe, you never know, it could be his time. Sometimes Ted

comes out, doesn't get involved with the crowd and plays fantastic.

Sometimes he gets with the cloud and it's against him. He could go

back and win it again. It's kind of luck, really. Maybe it will be a

final, hopefully I can win and make it four finals. Who knows. You have

to take every step as it comes. I'm looking forward to it. There's only

one winner at the end of the week. 31 go home. First round, you work

all year, if you go out first round, it's heartbreaking because you have

another year to wait. As it goes this week, I'm on my third game,

the double World Champion. Just when Martin Atkins thinks, "I'm

throwing myself back into contention". It's like someone has

flicked a switch in his brain, everything fuseed together and he

remembers how good he is. He's hard to beat in this mood. You feel that

he's going to do just enough. He did it in round one, round two and

tonight. He's not running a marathon, it's not like he has to

seen him wear trainers before, or attempt to run a marathon. They

play to the best of your ability, send out a warning sign. It is

Friday the 13th, his lucky day, and Mrs Hankey. I tell you what,

Martin Atkins looks like he could do with someone passing him a hanky.

Any more of this it will be a wipe out. Another hanky he's after. You

where there's no possible upshot. So much fall to the last dart. He's

not finding a rhythm at all: Ted Hankey single 20, double 20 for the

going according to plan. It's getting better. Ted Hankey finds

the double five. He's one set away from the five he needs to reach the

semifinal. Hankey leads 4-0. Hankey one away from a whitewash. We

rejoin in the fifth set, Atkins showing signs of a fight back, two

legs to one up. Hankey struggling to find the treble. One treble. Six

darts this leg so far. It's from here that Martin Atkins has control.

Love to go down to a two dart shot. Martin, you require 116. The first

set of the match he had chances he hasn't taken. 20, double 18. Can he

convert. Can't be done. It's a bit casual. A little casual again from

Ted Hankey. Ted Hankey, Atkins, focused. Enjoys a double.

Celebrates. Game on. The Hankey family thought it might be time to

put the kettle on for a cup of cocoa. He has a bit more time to

spend with the darts. That was a set against the darts for Martin

Atkins. So if he can hold here. 4-2, he'll need to break again, but

looks a different game at the moment. I mentioned even though I

don't think Hankey is in that much bother, he's on the end of a

comeback in the quarterfinal before. If Atkins can win this and possibly

the next step in the name of Dave Chisnell. Look at that sweaty brow.

enough so far, Atkins. Not like the previous set. It's a good time to

dart players do. They brush off any resistance. They fight back. Double

top, double 10. He rushes all these. straight back in with it. Hankey

placing it, letting the darts flow, like a river meandering to a

gorgeous valley heading to the rapids. More likely meandering

through the Fiery depths. It's gentle. Then he just rushes as we

head towards the oncoming rocks and plunges in descent. I wish Ted

Hankey would get off the fast water a bit more often. 221 is all he

needs for a place in the semifinals. He'll be back, will Ted Hankey. And

this will be lovely. Treble 17. Is this the end for Atkins. Are these

the last three darts at Lakeside 2012. That's the last dart. Double

8. A place in the semifinal. He's barely troubled as he reaches the

last score. Ted Hankey reaches the semifinal for the fourth time at

the Lakeside. In the end, when it came, it was swift. No mercy on

this night for Martin Atkins. semifinal Saturday at Lakeside, and

you will be there. Yes, amazing really, because I've not played

that well this week, and I got 370. Somebody must be looking down at me

at the moment. I've got improve. I need to finish, get my score in.

I'm drifting to the left and the right. Whenever I play, if I don't

play well, they'll murder me. you surprised that Martin didn't

make it harder for you this evening. Martin struggled a lot. I don't

know if it's because it was the first time he's there. I have known

Martin 20 years, it didn't work for him. He had a lot of chances. I'm

happy to be there. You must have brought so much confidence into

this match from the win over Scott Waites. Yes, but the way I practice

today, I have been doing that like I normally practice. All afternoon

and this evening I had about 70, odd 80s. Earlier I couldn't hit a

thing. It was weird. I don't know. You had the winning feeling twice

here before. Is it starting once you play for the standards you want,

is it starting to feel like this could be your year and title number

3 is there for the taking. Well, I'm still in, so I can still win it.

I say I had the ability. They didn't seem to go well up there. I

What a great innovation. Alan had a chance. If Chuck Norris can do a 9-

darter in one dart, sadly it was the last dart that let him down.

It's the last dart. He'll take the leg. It will be a shock if

Christain Kist takes this one. He 3. How many times have we seen

this? A 9-dart finish and he's lost the leg? It's unbelievable. It's

stage watching his opponent. He lost a leg as well. This time he

gives nothing away. 140. He's back again. Promise me at the beginning

of every week, you see a 180 or something. 18 for the tournament.

Alan Norris, 17 for the tournament from Christain Kist. So far six of

the best from Christain Kist, and five for Norris. This is 180. What

a time to get it. Look at this. That 180 put Alan Norris under

pressure. And Christain Kist now on 67. 15 or double top off the seven.

You keep imagining this match. Nothing has been more sensational

in many, many years. Still, it's 3- 1 down. It's a lot to do now. The

best of nine sets. First one to five. Two sets away and Christain

Kist is at the winning line. Alan Norris is 3-1 down. It's a 4-3 win.

He's got the darts to start the show. This is one of the highest

scores in the first half. Norris, no. Also the Lakes are turning into

a legacy. Now action on the doubles. Bullseye. He's going for the finish.

Christain Kist is on 300, he decided the best way... Yes, he'll

need sorting there through 160. could be in trouble. Already

missing the big fat nine here. He has only hit four doubles in 27

attempts. Game on. That's more like it. Either of these two players

could have the consistency around the doubles, they would be

unstoppable. They are starting off the lakes absolutely brilliantly.

110 for Norris, 102 for Christain Kist. The first nine averages

dragged down by the weight of doubles that they are missing. He

goes up, throws the darts, without a care in the world. A deflection

away. That's an opportunity now. That was a good chuck. OK, treble

20, double 18 and the ball. Double 20s for a man who lost the first

set, the first time the players returned. He goes 2-0 down. Comes

out after the break, absolutely firing. We are at 3-2 in sets. I

just wonder with Alan Norris, having problems with his back, and

requiring heat patches to put on his back if it's too much. Trying

to recover. Does he do well. He was narrowing his shoulder. He said it

was interesting trying to get out of bed the morning after the

second-round match. He said, "I was having a lot of trouble doing it",

I said, "You probably weren't the only one, Alan". For the set.

That's his first big finish since wrapping up the second set,

Christain Kist. It looked Alan Norris's all the way, didn't it.

301. Six darts to break the throw. 180s everywhere. There's a bit of

action. 78. Double throw. The last dart. He's OK. Alan Norris, 245.

Christain Kist takes out the double score. That will be a mighty

important final leg coming up. Alan Norris can't afford to lose it.

Game on. The pendulum swings. Alan Norris under pressure. It is a good

game, isn't it. Christain Kist, nice to see. A see of ice, my

friend. A chance now. A high- scoring match. When you try to hold

your throw, it may not be enough. Now trying to make a move. Making

it difficult for himself. This is one of the last legs for Christain

Kist to complete. A great shop. chance here. Did you notice trying

to stretch his shoulder and turn it a little bit. Suffering a few

problems with the shoulder. Give us another. Can you do it. Brilliant

Double 18. For Christain Kist to take the set after Christain Kist

missed all. Wesley Harms out with the Dutch fans throw in the towel,

loving every minute of it. He's already in the semifinal. Said he'd

love to play Christain Kist in the final. Wonder there's anybody left

in the tournament. Both of these players have 21 in the tournament

shows you how good the scoring is. You just have to miss a couple and

really helps him on his travels. You need to feel sorry for Alan

it's surprising that - the reason he's down is because his father

choked under the pressure of the the way. He's left 170. 20, double

semifinals on his Laiside debut. He may not get a lift back home in

Alan Norris now, but he may be able to afford his own taxi back. What a

champion in waiting this guy could be. I said it from day one. Then

there were four. Two Englishmen, two Dutchman and two best of 11-set

Harms, the electrician who seems to be wired for the Lakeside.

Christain Kist continues to blow them away. But Ted Hankey's shadow
