never give up and never will. I believe that every competition I

play I will win. I think every darts player should believe in that

trophy for a second time and matter the score, never write me off. I

say, you can get the comeback and is very competitive like you had

some end up winning on a Sunday evening at the Lakeside.

COMMENTATOR: What an atmosphere. A kaleidoscope of colour, nine days of

absorbing theatre at this iconic venue comes down to this. Scott

Waites champion three years ago and back it seems, to his best. A couple

of remarkable fightback wins on his route to the final, Scott is the

it is his name now above the shop means he is much more relaxed

financially. He can devote more time to his darts which means he is

happier on the oche and he has an aura about him. He has all week,

came on his own from Canada and has just gone about his business

quietly. A big leg this from Jeff Smith. He's been doing that already,

I tell you what, when he comes back he will have a chance to break the

Waites throw. I spoke to him 30 minutes ago and he served I know I

the missed doubles in a row, but either side of that. That is the

kind of stuff he has been producing every week.

Jeff APPLAUSE Scoring in the last four legs has

been letting him down. He took the first leg of this set,

but he was given it really. For a two set lead. Trouble is teen leaves

too shabby when he looks like he is almost out. Those comeback wins in

The second of the match for Scott Waites. His third overall.

He is throwing a quick, it is almost like he wants to capitalise on this

purple patch he knows he is in. What is to keep rolling with it. It

doesn't always last. He will note that there is a break after three

sets and Jeff Smith, a couple of times this week, has looked like he

is struggling and every time he has had a couple of minutes to compose

himself he has come back a different player. A long way back though, 3-0.

Vote yes. -- oh yes. He is enjoying himself up there.

When you are playing like this, you feel like you own the place. There

is a real swagger from Waites at the moment. Jeff Smith came here last

year for the first time and reached the semifinals, it is why he is back

this year. All four semifinalists invited back. He reached the

semifinals, which was kind of his aim and he was whitewashed,

semifinals, which was kind of his Scott Mitchell. This year his aim is

to reach the final. He said, if I reach the final his family are

coming back with them next year, he will not have to fly on his own. The

thing is, let's hope for his sake I am wrong, but maybe he has come hear

Waites. It is early on, but this has the feel of a crucial set of darts.

thrown seven darts at a double, compared to 18 for Waites. That is a

loose one. That is more like it. That was his first dart at a double

far. Just asking a couple of questions now on the Waites through.

If he can keep asking those questions he might have a chance to

break. He needs to break if he has a chance to win this set, Smith. He is

first to a finish. A good response from Scott Waites,

Smith just not finding the troubles. He is not getting the chances to hit

those doubles. Scott is loving it. One more leg and he leads by 3-0 in

a race to seven. He has to string some good darts to get even here.

That is only a 60. So, Waites can pressure the throw. Smith off the

hook. For the time being. It has been a fabulous week of fancy

dress. Should be first to a finish and is,

can Smith take out of 195? Not enough, really. So, a trouble now

leaves the ball. Yes, Bullseye for a three set lead for Waites. Great

Because Waites is doing that. It is a 3-0 lead. Scott Waites in control.

3-0 in a race to seven. It feels like the Canadian is being pushed

over Niagara Falls. He is struggling to keep his head above water. He has

passed if you life rafts along the way it has to be said.

He was averaging mid to high 90s. Three shots were doubles. At all

three. Happy days. What a start. He hasn't give Jeff a chance. He has

outscored him and he doesn't give much chance of a shot. If it is a

shot out, it is a high shot out. He is still struggling with his scoring

power. He has a problem with his muscles in his arm. He doesn't have

the power he should have. But he is hitting the doubles and he is

winning. I have noticed, the first three darts -- darts that which

throws, if he hits the treble 20, he is miles ahead. The first set, the

second set was a 102. Jeff should have won that set. If he plays but

said any other day he wins it. His average was so low. His scoring

deserted him. As long as you win, it doesn't matter. He thought it would

be easy winning the first set comfortably, had 177. Jeff, is not

doing it, he is wondering a bit. He is not like the previous games. He

is awkward to watch. He is not getting a chance to hit the finish.

He will be trying to gather himself. He has been in this situation where

he hasn't won a set in the opening exchanges. Let's get the thoughts of

Martin Adams. Martin has been on the receiving end of great performances

and you know what it takes to do this twice three times. Are you

surprised at how nervy Jeff has seemed and how he hasn't managed the

crisp doubles as he did earlier? I am a bit. I thought this would be

2-1 either way. I am surprised Scott is 3-0 up. He is firing in doubles

and not many. His demeanour in here was so relaxed. He is playing as if

he doesn't have a care in the world and that is a special gift when the

stakes are so high. He has won it once and he knows what it takes. To

be honest, he looks like a champion. From Jeff's perspective, when you

are 3-0 down, how did you gather yourself mentally and believe you

can close the gap and get yourself back into contention? It is a hard

thing to do but you have the belief in yourself and believe you can get

the next set under your belt and start closing the gap. He wants to

be coming in 3-0 -- 3-3. He needs to win the next three sets. Thank you.

Jeff said I like to play like I have won this 200 times before, but is

how I deal with the pressure. That has not been the case because it is

one thing thinking that it is another plane. You have to dream you

have won these tournaments. You are dreaming and you are playing the

game, but the dream is becoming a nightmare at the moment. Let's see

if that changes. One way traffic so far. There is time. Best of 13, best

to seven. 3-0, the need for Scott Waites. -- the lead. How are you

the first three sets? Slow. Some very nice shots. His consistency is

good. He has got to find something to turn the tide, the Canadian. Has

that break come at the right time for him? He was being bullied up

there. I think he needs to speed up. He has slowed down and is trying to

be more precise when he should be fluid. That is one. There we go. OK.

what kind of finish? Perhaps not what he would have hoped for. Not

He has put in some performances this week, has Jeff. The semifinal

victory will be the highlight of his wake, unless of course you can turn

this one around. That was stunning stuff.

We do often see it. Along comes a break in play and suddenly there is

a momentum shift. I was talking to Larry Butler last

night and I asked him if he was in the old team that I played in and,

yes, we had a good drink together. A lovely man.

The crowds have been great this week. It makes the game run

smoothly. Always a traffic atmosphere. Hardly ever any trouble,

either. I haven't seen any in 32 years. Seriously. Nobody has been

thrown out. They have been stretchered out. That is a joke. No

joke for Smith at the minute. Another maximum from Scotty Waites.

be back. He nails it. He breathes a sigh of relief. It has sprung to

has happened with Jeff at the moment.

He is not there to give up, Jeff Smith. The question is whether Scott

Waites will give him a chance to fight back. The thing is, he has

been the star of the week. To come to this situation in the final, you

think you have done the work, but you haven't. Oh dear. Dear oh dear.

He is rushing along now. Luckily enough, Scotty... He has said the

trouble with the second part. Muttering to himself, Jeff Smith.

He looks confused at the moment about where on earth his game has

He is really getting the applause Jeff, has not had much of it. They

You fear for Smith at the moment at 4-0 let's be honest. Just getting

back a little bit of form. Neck and neck. You sense they could

be a big moment coming in the next minute or so. And there are tears.

anticipated this, the way Jeff Smith has been throwing this week and the

way he conducts himself. He looks after himself, practices quietly.

Keeps himself to himself and it has worked for him, he has done nothing

different and suddenly look at this 0- five. A very likeable lad as

well. Most of the players knocked out

earlier have hung around, Wesley Arms has not missed a session of

darts. Some player Wesley. He is very watchable like these two.

They are our youth finalists. They are smiling. We have another break

after this set of darts and if Smith does not get going. He will go a

stage already a set from defeats. He has a chance here. A loose start.

Bobby George, we were just about to have a cup of tea. He jumped up as

quick as a kid, wet about 161, from? You must feel better now he's done

that to win the set. He had a few chances but the is not throwing

right. His arm is not straight, he is jerking his body because he is

under pressure and he wants to get back in the game. We have seen this

before from Scott Waites. He generally does races game. The

problem is Jeff has been playing so bad carpenter that set that he has

not had the raise it too much, if you take Scots's performance and

those have been fantastic. The other side is we're not PR guys, we are TV

presenters and the men's draw, hopefully we will see a better next

year because on the whole it has been disappointed. The first rounds

can be but it was a bit more this year. Some players we had never seen

before anything who will win. If you haven't seen the players it is hard

to pick a winner. Gradually over the week it got better and better. The

finals were bit disappointing at the moment but it can change. Jeff Smith

has been averaging over 90 for the whole tournaments, it is the right

man in the final and let's hope Jeff can get another sets, we might get

the final we want. Let's see what happens.

mindset but he has a lot to do and Scott Waites has been getting the

finishers when he needs them and 5-1 would be a mighty comeback if you

were to combat this one. That's 161 before the break would have helped.

He has comeback throwing well, 161 on the throne. 121 is a very

makeable checkout and Smith will have a opportunity to check out.

he is under pressure probably has to take this.

form completely over the last few years, it is good to see him back.

his best game. He is well capable of throwing up toward the 100 mark. His

whose nerve prevails in the pressure situations and Scott Waites has been

world title would be a nice early birthday present with the ?100,000

focusing and producing his very best. There is quite simply no room

for error for Jeff Smith from here. He can't afford any real down

periods. He has got to find some big numbers. This is a mini opportunity.

140 here would help the cause. That is pretty good.

That is. Smith gets a turn here. Just low. Can he get one over at the

top. He is throwing that one from Hampshire. For those of you watching

over seas, Hampshire is a fair way away from the Lakeside. The next

county. Waites is on a finish. Oh, excellent. Good darts. What a great

time to do it. His sixth maximum. That is why the crowd have wanted to

Jeff Smith this week. Double 18. Stunning darts. A fabulous finish.

He is one leg away from the title. Of such moments are champions made.

Scott Waites, while Smith put the pressure on, responded in true

champion fashion. A magnificent checkout. 156, his highest checkout

of the tournament so far. Well, as we get our breath back, that means

that one more leg and Scott Waites is the 2016 BDO world champion. He

has a little smile on his lips. He senses he is closing in now and it

is his destiny and not that of Jeff Smith. How about that? I wonder if

Jeff Smith still believes? He applauded his opponent when he got

that magnificent checkout. The touch of hands before this crucial leg

began and Smith, I think, knows he is up against it now. That is a good

cover shot. Not on a finish yet, but Smith a

long way back. Scott Waites is not far away. But trophy that they can

oppose a sea is in a touching different stands for Waites now. --

distance. That is quality throwing and two more diets could polish this

one off. -- two more darts. He won the title in 2013. He struggled with

shoulder trouble. He is back to full fitness. He is back to his best. He

produce his best on the biggest occasion, but wow, it was brutal

from Scotty. They two time world champion. He has been the player of

the week. His earlier matches were spectacular. The crowd just love

them. They loved what he produced this week and on the big stage, when

it counted, he has produced the performance of a champion. Back from

the darting wilderness through injury and now champion again.

Ladies and gentlemen, way we have a round of applause for both of our

finalists? -- may way? Jeff, the first Canadian in the final for 22

years. You have been brilliant this week. We didn't quite see you at

your best in this final, but over all, a sensational championship. I

found myself try to make something out of nothing and I appreciate

everyone of you guys out there. You guys have been awesome all week.

had chances he could have gone out early and he dug in and he really

made it to the end. Well done. Jeff, semifinal in your debut year, runner

up in your second year, that is quite some record. You just seem to,

at times, have been so comfortable on the big stage and you have made

title of Lakeside word champion, it is Scotty, Scott Waites.

2016 Lakeside word champion, Scott Waites. You would like to hear from

a man who says it is about playing the darts, not the money. That makes

you warm to a man. For Scott Waites it really is and always has been all

about the darts. It is a great story, a great chat comeback and

Scott Waites, proud Yorkshireman, proud champion once again. He might

be champion a few times more yet, you never know. His dad, Clive. I

can't imagine this moment felt further away when he was just going

under the knife and it was being taken to his shoulder, the most

important tool of his trade. He has another trade, this is his hobby. It

is testament to his will, testament to his dedication to practice,

testament to his belief as well. He has managed to get back up there as

champion. I had the same operation and it takes a long while to get

your muscle memory back and it is difficult. He has worked at it and

he has played really well this year. His 156 was the highest finish he

has ever had. That really hurt Jeff, that did. He said I am not letting

it go 6-2. You have got to bully them when you are in front like

that. You can fight back but that would be a big task for Jeff. He had

to get on him and get the trophy. He is the regiment, he does worry about

the money. Anyone who puts ?100,000 in their pocket doesn't worry about

the money at that stage. There is Jeff Smith he fell off the cliff in

the semifinal last year after being so consistently one step ahead. They

beat the man who spends his days fixing cars needs that one extra

gear and maybe this year will set him in good stead for next year.

Last year we didn't know who he was. To come back this year and do it

again and get to the final, he will come back next year knowing he may

win it. He has another chance. There will be millions of people who know

darts inside out, they played, they watch it all over the UK in

different forms and federations and if someone bought it that final on

DVD you would be looking inside the bag for the receipt. Over the week,

Scott has shown world-class darts and he has shown it in the BDO and

when they come together for the grand slam. He has won that. He has

been through these injuries. I have seen enough to note that the old

Scott Waites is still there and he is young enough that it is exciting

to see where he goes and what he does over the next five years. He

has got his arm fixed. He was quiet, practised on his own, no one was

watching him, he was cunning. He played entertaining darts. The final

was a bit disappointing. For Scott, he thought it was wonderful. Jeff

just went, he didn't play like he could. When you don't have a lot of

chances at a double, when you get your chance you have to be able to

take it. When you keep going down, it drains you. When you try too hard

you cannot play the darts you usually play. Scotty, you cant blame

him, he thought it was easy so he took it. We have seen where he sits

in the averages. He does seem to be above his opponent when he is front

running. That is from the nights playing down the pub. It is all

about beating the man. We saw a lovely shots from back stage of his

partner, his family and it is interesting when ECB hugs back

stage. His friends get involved. It is everybody together back stage. It

sums it up. One man who will have two quid to get up there is Scott

Waites. Congratulations. If I can take you back to the day of the

operation on the shoulder, how far away did this seem that day? Over 1

million miles away. For six weeks, not being able to throw a dart, it

is painful in its self. Then, to be able to come here this week. I am

taking the World Champion chip trophy back home. How fantastic is

that? It was fantastic. Everyone was saying the superstar grabbed some

winner and everything, this is like the beginning of the new beginning

for you. I am speechless at the moment. I put

my heart and Soul train to win this, trying to prepare

my heart and Soul train to win this, way I can. -- into this to win. I

took my chances before Jeff took his and that has been the difference

between the game. Another classic final, when you get out in front,

you sit a viewpoint above your opponent and you just carry on. Like

I said before, I will never give in. Jeff will try to catch on, he will

try to chase me. He got the double before me and today I didn't give

him the chance. Never arrogant with this, your confidence was there that

you prepare, that you practice and you were going to fail? I don't know

about that. Sometimes you walk on the stage and everything feels

right, I felt I wasn't scoring high enough to be Jeff. Jeff was scoring

high enough to beat me. So sometimes it is strange. At the end of the

day, that last leg. was hit something, it a few trebles.

For a guy who doesn't play darts at the time, he is a true professional

and to come back like this and win the trophy again, it is sensational.

It is a very hard process. I had the rotator cuff as well so I know you

went through. You have your arm in a sling, can't throw darts, you try to

throw the darts and you hit this game board. You trained yourself to

get to the standard, I know you have two push your body forward sometimes

be playing a lot better than you was an Hebrew jeweller world champion.

You can't get better than that can use an? I've been told tonight Bobby

you have joined the AA. The automobile sites, did you take one
