Good morning. You weren't expecting us to be on now, and quite frankly,

:00:31.:00:36.

neither were we. After all that torrential rain yesterday and that

:00:37.:00:40.

nerve-jangling, spine-tingling second set involving Andy Murray

:00:41.:00:43.

last night, which isn't complete yet, means there's unfinished

:00:44.:00:47.

business on the second day, the quarter final between Italy and

:00:48.:00:50.

Great Britain. This is how all four ties currently stand:

:00:51.:01:02.

Jo-Wilfred Tsonga lost a long singles last night so France have to

:01:03.:01:06.

win the doubles today. Wawrinka lost his singles yesterday

:01:07.:01:17.

but Federer won and they're not a bad doubles pairing. They link up

:01:18.:01:21.

today in that match against Kazakhstan. Italy have a 1-0 lead

:01:22.:01:26.

against Great Britain because of the match that took place yesterday

:01:27.:01:30.

afternoon, after an extensive rain delay. Fabio Fognini beat James Ward

:01:31.:01:37.

in four sets. At one set apiece, it was anybody's match. In the end,

:01:38.:01:40.

Fognini, one of the world's best players on clay, was just too much.

:01:41.:01:45.

A great shot to win the match. Ward can be really proud of his

:01:46.:01:51.

performance. You made a brilliant start to the

:01:52.:01:55.

first couple of sets, what are your overriding emotions at the end of

:01:56.:01:59.

the match? Disappointment. I don't like losing to whoever you play.

:02:00.:02:03.

Great first three sets, I thought, not just two sets. The fourth set

:02:04.:02:07.

was difficult. He got on top of me early. From there, it was tough to

:02:08.:02:12.

turn it around. But the first three sets were even and the third could

:02:13.:02:16.

have gone to either of us. In the third set in particular, you must

:02:17.:02:20.

have felt if you could have just squeezed that one out, there was a

:02:21.:02:23.

real chance of winning the match. At times, he was beaten himself up a

:02:24.:02:27.

little bit. Of course, you come to expect that. You know how Fabio is.

:02:28.:02:32.

It doesn't really affect his game. He can scream and shout and look

:02:33.:02:36.

like he's not happy, but the next point he's ready. It doesn't really

:02:37.:02:40.

affect him. Cting to play against? Not really. Just because you know

:02:41.:02:45.

what coming. Sometimes it can be quite funny actually. Serious amount

:02:46.:02:50.

of tape on his body too, did he seem restricted to you in any way? I

:02:51.:02:54.

didn't notice, I wasn't looking at what tape he had on. He moved really

:02:55.:02:59.

well. I said before, every drop shot he got up, like ghtning. I didn't

:03:00.:03:05.

notice a a difference. Condition of the court, due feel comfortable --

:03:06.:03:09.

did you feel comfortable playing on it? Yeah, it was fine. It churned up

:03:10.:03:16.

a little bit. It was slow out there. The ball got heavy, as the afternoon

:03:17.:03:22.

got colder, it was definitely heavy and tougher to move. It was the same

:03:23.:03:26.

for both of us. Fast forward to Sunday afternoon, we don't know what

:03:27.:03:30.

the scenario would be, it could be you and Seppi for a place in the

:03:31.:03:35.

semifinals, are you good in -- are you in good shape if it comes to

:03:36.:03:40.

that? Of course, there's a lot of tennis to be played before that.

:03:41.:03:45.

We'll see how Andy does today and we'll go from there. Andy went on

:03:46.:03:49.

court, he won the first set against Andreas Seppi. But the second set

:03:50.:03:55.

was a dinning-dong aware. -- ding-dong affair. Andy Murray

:03:56.:04:00.

managed to save four set points. With that put-away, gave himself a

:04:01.:04:06.

position where they are 5-5 and they will resume in about 20 minutes'

:04:07.:04:10.

time. Play is delayed by half an hour this morning because the court

:04:11.:04:14.

wasn't in good enough condition. The court was the main talking point

:04:15.:04:19.

yesterday. James Ward was very conciliatory there about what he

:04:20.:04:22.

thought the state of it was. His captain was less so afterwards. We

:04:23.:04:28.

expected it to be like this when you reach quarter final stage of this

:04:29.:04:32.

competition. We knew it was going to be a more hostile environment and a

:04:33.:04:36.

more challenging one. It proved to be the case. There were a number of

:04:37.:04:39.

factors that made it more difficult - the weather, the court itself.

:04:40.:04:44.

When you put all those things in the mix, it was a tough day. Very proud

:04:45.:04:48.

of the guys, both James and Andy. They showed huge amount of heart

:04:49.:04:54.

today. Think we stand now, 1-0 down in rubbers, but Andy in charge of

:04:55.:04:59.

the second one. Yeah, I think people probably would have expected that. I

:05:00.:05:04.

thought James an amazingly good job, that's about as well as I've seen

:05:05.:05:07.

him play. When you consider the surface and the opponent and the

:05:08.:05:10.

form of the opponent. Then Andy, he's in a good position now. It was

:05:11.:05:15.

a tough match. It was a heavy, heavy court at end there. Both players

:05:16.:05:18.

struggling to generate a lot of pace. But the quality was really

:05:19.:05:22.

high, a lot of long points, which the crowd enjoyed. I think very

:05:23.:05:26.

physically demanding for both players. Good quality all round and

:05:27.:05:30.

Andy showing why he's such a champion. He had to save four set

:05:31.:05:35.

points there. One set all overnight would look very different to 5-5

:05:36.:05:39.

overnight. How big a deal is that? It's huge. After such a long day and

:05:40.:05:44.

OK, they didn't finish even a second set there, but that was brutal out

:05:45.:05:48.

there with the conditions. You saw what was happening in the court.

:05:49.:05:51.

Every time the players moved wide, it was cutting up. I think it's

:05:52.:05:54.

dangerous. They need to work hard at that to make sure it's safer for the

:05:55.:05:58.

players. It's crucial that Andy actually stays in this second set

:05:59.:06:02.

and I back him to win that now. I think he'll come out and really

:06:03.:06:05.

focus on what to do now. He's had court time with Seppi as well. His

:06:06.:06:11.

avoiding going one set all, will that influence the decision making

:06:12.:06:15.

over the doubles as to whether Andy might play? It could do. Much around

:06:16.:06:22.

that is a waiting game to see how Andy feels. He is our best player.

:06:23.:06:27.

You build that around him. The two doubles players get that and respect

:06:28.:06:31.

it fully. It's a question of making sure we get all the treatment he

:06:32.:06:36.

needs now. Get back to the team room. Hopefully he has a great

:06:37.:06:40.

sleep, wakes up and much will depend on conditions, how he gets on

:06:41.:06:45.

tomorrow, how much the match -- how the match goes against Seppi. Do you

:06:46.:06:49.

see it going all the way? At the end of the day, we have Andy and I think

:06:50.:06:53.

he's the best player here. If Andy feels good and physically is in good

:06:54.:06:59.

enough condition to be able to do what I think he can do, then, you

:07:00.:07:03.

know, there's a chance we could win it beforehand. Then again, it's so

:07:04.:07:10.

close, the environment is definitely making it real 50/50. Their captain

:07:11.:07:15.

said the same. There's not much between it. So probably could go the

:07:16.:07:20.

whole way if I look at it that way. A lot can happen. Tomorrow now

:07:21.:07:25.

becomes a pivotal day. There will be two rubbers at stake. We will wait

:07:26.:07:32.

and see. Leon Smith talking to David Law. They spend the whole time

:07:33.:07:37.

talking like this, because he's very tall. It's like talking to Dominic

:07:38.:07:43.

Inglot, Davis Cup player. And David Lloyd with us as well. Where is the

:07:44.:07:46.

balance of power in the Murray match, how crucial was the game last

:07:47.:07:51.

night? Massive. I think go into the match and it's not one set all right

:07:52.:07:56.

now, it's 5-5. In a tie-break, Murray will be stronger, when Seppi

:07:57.:08:01.

isn't really quite into the match. And if he's 2-0 in sets, he could

:08:02.:08:05.

win the third set. He's fresh enough to play the doubles. How key is it

:08:06.:08:10.

for Murray to win this game, if he can, as quickly as possible, to then

:08:11.:08:16.

aleaf himself -- leave himself enough in the tank for the doubles?

:08:17.:08:20.

If it's a long game, somebody will have to make a decision, presumably

:08:21.:08:24.

Andy himself, that's a redundant question, but that could determine

:08:25.:08:28.

the outcome of the tie. Absolutely. Unfortunately as we know with Andy,

:08:29.:08:31.

he's not an early morning player. He doesn't like starting early. He's

:08:32.:08:35.

got to start quickly today. Obviously... He can be quite a slow

:08:36.:08:40.

starter, even in the evening. That's true too! If he can get through

:08:41.:08:43.

somehow, the second set will be crucial. He's got to come out firing

:08:44.:08:47.

off the bat. If he can get that and win in three strait, he'll play the

:08:48.:08:50.

doubles. If he goes into four or five, I think he'll play doubles

:08:51.:08:54.

either way and win this match. The quicker the better for us to win the

:08:55.:08:56.

quicker the better for us to winthe the tie. Speak to Russell Fuller,

:08:57.:09:01.

our tennis correspondent in Naples for us. The weather, we can see,

:09:02.:09:07.

yesterday you were batoned down under an unbrela -- umbrella, and

:09:08.:09:14.

it's a nicer day. Beautiful today, glorious. The forecast, though I

:09:15.:09:21.

vowed to give up meteorology yesterday, it's sunshine and

:09:22.:09:24.

showers. There was a queue until a few minutes ago, 70 or 80 metres

:09:25.:09:29.

back, full of British fans, about 700 of them have made the journey

:09:30.:09:33.

for this tie. People preparing to come in on a beautiful day, enjoying

:09:34.:09:37.

the sunshine. Short sleeves and shorts as well. A sense of optimism

:09:38.:09:43.

that not only can Britain take the initiative in this tie today, but

:09:44.:09:48.

that we will get a full day's play. The forecast tomorrow is excellent

:09:49.:09:50.

too. If the showers avoid us this afternoon, there's every chance we

:09:51.:09:53.

will be back on track by close of play. You were discussing with your

:09:54.:09:57.

press colleagues last night, in a restaurant in Naples, how important

:09:58.:10:01.

that last game was last night for Andy Murray to get things all

:10:02.:10:04.

square, what was the general consensus? Well, I think that Great

:10:05.:10:12.

Britain are strong enough nowadays to have been able to resist the

:10:13.:10:18.

obvious momentum bounce Seppi winning the second set would have

:10:19.:10:21.

given the Italians. But it's the fact that Murray knows then he would

:10:22.:10:26.

have had to play at least two sets this morning and there would have

:10:27.:10:29.

been repercussions for the doubles this afternoon. Leon Smith was

:10:30.:10:34.

hedging his bets in that interview. He's clear that Andy Murray is the

:10:35.:10:38.

number one player and he will play the doubles, unless, perhaps, he

:10:39.:10:42.

plays three more sets and a bit today and decides that physically

:10:43.:10:45.

it's unwise to play the doubles, ahead of playing Fabio Fognini in

:10:46.:10:51.

potentially the decisive tie at 10. 30am tomorrow or maybe he's feeling

:10:52.:10:54.

the after-effects of the virus he had earlier in the week. Otherwise,

:10:55.:11:00.

I'm sure Murray will play. It's touch on Ross Hutchins, he knows the

:11:01.:11:04.

score. He has to prepare for a match. He's Colin Fleming's regular

:11:05.:11:10.

doubles partner. Buff he plays -- but he plays second fiddle to Murray

:11:11.:11:15.

if he's firing. What state is the court in today? They made some

:11:16.:11:21.

running repairs to it this morning. A lot of rain leaked off the covers

:11:22.:11:27.

yesterday when they were removing those covers. It cost about an

:11:28.:11:31.

hour-and-a-half in play. It probably was the firchs between -- difference

:11:32.:11:37.

between finishing Murray's match yesterday. It was farcical the way

:11:38.:11:41.

they tried to remove the covers with so much standing water still on

:11:42.:11:44.

them, it just was impossible to get the court in the condition they

:11:45.:11:48.

would want to. They brought all this dry clay on to soak up the moisture.

:11:49.:11:53.

That ments, at times, it -- meant, at times, it felt more like a

:11:54.:12:00.

long-jump pit. Leon Smith felt it was dangerous at times. They have

:12:01.:12:04.

worked hard this morning, hence the later start time. It's looking

:12:05.:12:07.

better. The sun is now doing its job too. That is crucial. It will be

:12:08.:12:12.

fairly slow to start, but I think as the day goes on, if the rain stays

:12:13.:12:16.

away, there's a good chance we will see a truer clay court surface today

:12:17.:12:21.

and for the reverse singles on Sunday. Very much. Can you see from

:12:22.:12:26.

that big, wide angle, they've created a fantastic arena there are

:12:27.:12:30.

one side of the court decked out in the Italian flag and the other in

:12:31.:12:33.

the Union flag and it looks terrific. We could see the Isle of

:12:34.:12:40.

Capri in the distance. In terms also just of the crowd, because you were

:12:41.:12:44.

alluding to this last night, we are going to show the last game of

:12:45.:12:47.

Murray's game last night in a moment, the crowd can be a key

:12:48.:12:50.

factor here in Davis Cup, in the way that it isn't almost in any other

:12:51.:12:56.

aspect of tennis. It can and the Italians are ferocious away from

:12:57.:12:58.

home. I've thought in the first match yesterday with James Ward,

:12:59.:13:03.

they were a bit muted. The crowd was half full, because of the weather. A

:13:04.:13:07.

lot of people probably thought the match wouldn't happen. It got louder

:13:08.:13:11.

when Andy Murray came on. Andy stirred them up when he started

:13:12.:13:15.

getting down on himself. If you get ratty with the Italian crowd, they

:13:16.:13:18.

got on your back more. For Andy, it's OK. Not so sure it will be so

:13:19.:13:24.

good for Colin in the doubles because they're maybe not as

:13:25.:13:27.

experienced. The crowd can play a factor. We were discussing whether

:13:28.:13:31.

playing against the crowd would inspire Andy, but almost, as we come

:13:32.:13:35.

on to show the last game, it almost seemed he had to control himself. It

:13:36.:13:38.

was almost as though he was allowing the crowd to beat him at one stage

:13:39.:13:42.

in that second set. Absolutely, you don't need to give the crowd any

:13:43.:13:46.

extra incentive to get on you. He was doing that by getting a little

:13:47.:13:50.

bit upset with himself. So, he really had to focus. He knew that as

:13:51.:13:55.

well as that, he didn't want to go down that set. To make it all 5-5 in

:13:56.:13:59.

the second, that was big for the team. Let's show you the last game

:14:00.:14:02.

that took place last night. We weren't expecting to be on air at

:14:03.:14:07.

6pm on BBC Two last night, but because everything was delayed, we

:14:08.:14:10.

had a fantastic teatime drama, the kind of thing we've been used to at

:14:11.:14:16.

Wimbledon over the years, with first Tim Henman and then Andy. Andy

:14:17.:14:20.

Murray was serving to stay in the second set and it went on and on and

:14:21.:14:22.

on. Either way there will be some

:14:23.:15:06.

singles action tomorrow, to go with the doubles.

:15:07.:15:11.

That's a big mistake here. Oh, he's miss today! Worked so hard

:15:12.:16:49.

during the point. That was a very late decision from him to hit the

:16:50.:16:53.

drop shot. Again, he noticed he would have to have that low

:16:54.:16:56.

forehand. Heaves thinking, I can't do that much with this -- he's. He

:16:57.:17:01.

left that late to decide to hit the drop shot.

:17:02.:17:41.

Maybe another late change of mind, possibly. He's got to be so careful

:17:42.:17:46.

here. Crowd aren't so sure. But the line

:17:47.:17:50.

judge was. It's out. Game point Murray to level

:17:51.:18:20.

at 5-5. Surely that will be that for the night.

:18:21.:18:39.

He really pulled up there. That didn't look good.

:18:40.:19:56.

He's complaining he can't see the ball.

:19:57.:20:06.

This could be the last point of the day's play.

:20:07.:20:16.

Good serve. That's the serve he normally goes to.

:20:17.:20:28.

That's his favourite serves by miles.

:20:29.:21:17.

These guys, despite being seasoned pros, are very tired right now. They

:21:18.:21:21.

know how much rests on this point. Oh, that was a tight looking

:21:22.:21:53.

forehand. He really pulled off that one, middle of the net. That's a

:21:54.:21:54.

sign of nerves. He was in a good position here. That

:21:55.:22:01.

is a tight looking forehand. No body turn whatsoever. It was all

:22:02.:22:10.

just arm. Oh, these points. I'm getting tight

:22:11.:23:20.

watching it. This is really, I mean, if you have any kids watching at

:23:21.:23:24.

home and you've played this kind of rallies, crosscourt, down-the-line

:23:25.:23:27.

for as long as you can, that's the reason you do these drills, so you

:23:28.:23:32.

don't break down when you come to pressure situations. Eventually

:23:33.:23:33.

someone has to. My goodness. What a volley. Judy looking on

:23:34.:24:16.

there, was she? He had to see that one pretty well. He said he can't

:24:17.:24:21.

see. This one came at him fast. That was perfect technique. That was a

:24:22.:24:25.

difficult volley. He used his legs well there. He does, gets down well.

:24:26.:24:31.

Racquet out in front. Eyes close to the ball.

:24:32.:24:55.

Oh, Seppi's broken off on the point. He's got to be sure here. He's got

:24:56.:25:02.

to be sure that it's wide and a double fault. It's close. It's a

:25:03.:25:08.

double fault! Oh, my goodness. What drama late in the day in Naples.

:25:09.:25:14.

Wow. Murray to his eternal credit accepts the call and doesn't take it

:25:15.:25:21.

any further. That is gutsy to stop a point mid-point. Especially as he

:25:22.:25:24.

said he can't see. That is gutsy. He's getting nervous too. He wants

:25:25.:25:30.

out. Well done Murray. I mean, our

:25:31.:25:47.

nerves, your nerves at home and the umpire's nerves, what about that,

:25:48.:25:51.

saving all these set points. Seppi was waiting for the backhand there.

:25:52.:25:57.

He was surprised by the forehand. I don't think he's missed a first

:25:58.:26:00.

serve on the break points. Oh, he's dug out that point, Murray!

:26:01.:26:53.

Now he's got a game point. It had to happen, that almost

:26:54.:26:56.

certainly the final game of the day turns out to be one of the longest

:26:57.:27:01.

games of the day. And the best game of the day. Absolutely right.

:27:02.:27:10.

Oh, yes! Andy Murray stylishly moving to 5-5 in the second set.

:27:11.:28:17.

That will be it for the day. Racquet into the bag.

:28:18.:28:21.

STUDIO: It was almost just as agonising watching it a second time.

:28:22.:28:24.

There Andy Murray one set to the good and 5-5 in the second. This was

:28:25.:28:32.

him practising on one of the outside courts at the magnificent Naples

:28:33.:28:37.

tennis courts. It's reminiscent of Monte Carlo. He and his opponent,

:28:38.:28:41.

Andreas Seppi will be on court shortly. Big names have been in

:28:42.:28:45.

action over the course of the last 24 hours in these quarter finals in

:28:46.:28:49.

the Davis Cup, not least Roger Federer, who raz won something of a

:28:50.:28:54.

-- who was on a salvage mission after Stanislas Wawrinka lost the

:28:55.:28:57.

first rubber against Kazakhstan. The winner of this tie will play the

:28:58.:29:01.

winner of Italy against Great Britain. Here's Federer beating

:29:02.:29:07.

Kukushkin in straight sets. That's 1-1 going into the doubles. Federer

:29:08.:29:12.

and Wawrinka play doubles today. This is the biggest upset so far,

:29:13.:29:26.

Jo-Wilfred Tsonga losing an epic five-setter against the German. That

:29:27.:29:30.

means it's only seven times in the history of the Davis Cup has a

:29:31.:29:34.

country come back from 2-0 down to win a tie. The odds are firmly

:29:35.:29:37.

against Germany there. Can you see at the top of the caption, the Czech

:29:38.:29:41.

Republic, the defending champions are through already after victory in

:29:42.:29:45.

the doubles today against Japan in Tokyo. They are the first of the

:29:46.:29:48.

semifinalists to be decided. I mention that it's a real, real

:29:49.:29:53.

rarity in Davis Cup to come from 2-0 down to win it. France are very much

:29:54.:29:57.

up against. It that's why it's almost impossible to overestimate

:29:58.:30:00.

how important it is for Andy Murray to square things up today. It's

:30:01.:30:07.

huge. I think Germany, France might come back to win that 3-2. Having

:30:08.:30:11.

said that, that's the beauty of Davis Cup. You get people ranked

:30:12.:30:20.

over 100, and they beat a player like Tsonga. Against a huge French

:30:21.:30:27.

crowd. We saw James Ward yet in three sets going up against the

:30:28.:30:30.

number 13 in the word. It's what Davis Cup is all about. That doesn't

:30:31.:30:36.

alter the fact that Andy Murray has to make this one apiece because then

:30:37.:30:43.

the pressure is almost insurmountable. Andy will be able to

:30:44.:30:46.

come through, I think. There's still the doubles. The boys can get the

:30:47.:30:50.

job done. There hopefully, we'll see a 2-1 lead by the end of the day. I

:30:51.:30:54.

think Andy is heading towards the court at the moment with his

:30:55.:30:58.

captain, Leon Smith. What will Andy have - would will he have sought

:30:59.:31:03.

advice, perhaps the wrong word, but thoughts of over the course of the

:31:04.:31:08.

last 12 hours or so? Does he, in the current mode of Andy Murray, does he

:31:09.:31:16.

talk to his mum? Would he have run Lendl last night, what will he have

:31:17.:31:20.

done? I don't think lendle would have come into it. I think his mum

:31:21.:31:25.

probably. They would have had a general conversation. The important

:31:26.:31:33.

thing is he's a quick -- he needs a quick start. When you've won two

:31:34.:31:37.

grand slams, you don't need that much. It's just the obvious little

:31:38.:31:41.

things just to keep him going, get ready for tomorrow. He looks very

:31:42.:31:44.

calm and relaxed and smiling away there in the sunshine, I have to

:31:45.:31:48.

say. Would you rather be serving or receiving in this situation, first

:31:49.:31:52.

game? It depends. Me personally, I would like to be serving. No

:31:53.:32:01.

kidding! 150mph! For normal people, what would they like? They might

:32:02.:32:04.

like to return first because they want to get their eye in. Even if

:32:05.:32:08.

they lose that game, they have a bit of groundies under the belt, take it

:32:09.:32:11.

into their service game. You don't want to be too cold and if you get

:32:12.:32:16.

broken, it could be end of set already. Again, it depends on who

:32:17.:32:19.

you are, I think Andy maybe would like the fact that he's returning

:32:20.:32:23.

first. I agree with that. I think he'll be peppering the Seppi

:32:24.:32:28.

forehand awes much as possible early on. His forehand goes when he gets

:32:29.:32:32.

tired. We saw that yesterday. I'd be surprised if Andy doesn't pepper

:32:33.:32:36.

that as much as he can in the first couple of games. Was extraordinary

:32:37.:32:41.

confidence or amazing hand-eye coordination for Seppi to stop a

:32:42.:32:46.

point on "Second serve at deuce and 4-5. In dark light. He couldn't see

:32:47.:32:54.

the ball any way. Remarkable. I thought he'd messed up to be honest.

:32:55.:32:58.

We were watching obviously, but I thaut he'd messed that up. It would

:32:59.:33:02.

have been amazing if he had done. See Leon Smith there. You've been

:33:03.:33:07.

part of this squad, I'm sure when Leon Smith got the job, a lot of

:33:08.:33:11.

people, with all due respect to him, John you were a very high-profile

:33:12.:33:15.

player and a high-profile individual, when you were Davis Cup

:33:16.:33:20.

captain, everybody knew about you. When Leon Smith got the job, a lot

:33:21.:33:24.

of people within tennis, never mind people outside the sport, went "who?

:33:25.:33:30.

". What does he bring to the team ethic? He brings a sense of unity to

:33:31.:33:35.

the team. He's good at keeping the guys together as a team, bringing

:33:36.:33:39.

them in. As tennis players we're all very individual. We focus on

:33:40.:33:43.

ourselves. He does a very good job of bringing this team together,

:33:44.:33:47.

unifying it so that we're working towards the same goal for each

:33:48.:33:51.

other. That's one of his strengths. What did you regard, if you had

:33:52.:33:56.

three things that Davis Cup captain has to do, has to be good at, what

:33:57.:34:01.

did you feel they were? Well, you've obviously got to have a good

:34:02.:34:03.

relationship with the players. You've got to be able to read the

:34:04.:34:07.

players. It's an individual sport. Going back to Leon, why it was a

:34:08.:34:10.

good decision at the time, certainly, it's proved to be a very

:34:11.:34:14.

good decision, was that he was head of British tennis then. The younger

:34:15.:34:18.

players coming up... Knew him. And he was going to be with them on the

:34:19.:34:24.

off weeks at the NTC training centre. Another player like Greg

:34:25.:34:30.

Rudsedski, was in the mix, but if you don't spend the time, you have

:34:31.:34:35.

no chance. If you can spend 30 weeks with them, rather than ten, as I

:34:36.:34:38.

had, makes more sense, with younger players. If you have high

:34:39.:34:41.

international players, then the need is not so great, because they're

:34:42.:34:45.

pros. They have been there and done. It they don't need a coach as much.

:34:46.:34:50.

For the younger players, Leon has been around and knows them inside

:34:51.:34:54.

out. It's proved to be a very good signing. We've seen from Germany

:34:55.:34:58.

being 2-0 up against France, with their coach, who we suspect is a

:34:59.:35:03.

German equivalent of Leon Smith, if you catapoult in a big name from

:35:04.:35:07.

outer space and say take over the Davis Cup team, that's not

:35:08.:35:10.

necessarily the best way of operating. No doubt. As you said,

:35:11.:35:13.

you want to have a very close bond with the team and that's what Leon

:35:14.:35:17.

has. You see him at a lot of tournaments. He comes to a lot of

:35:18.:35:21.

the grand slams and Masters series. He will be on your practice court,

:35:22.:35:26.

no matter who you are, and what time you're practising. He is there to

:35:27.:35:29.

help out, if he can. That means that you want to then go on and win for

:35:30.:35:32.

him, not only for your country, but him as well. You want to contact us

:35:33.:35:37.

during the course of this morning and the afternoon, when the doubles

:35:38.:35:41.

starts at 1pm, live on BBC One, that's your Saturday afternoon

:35:42.:35:45.

entertainment, go to the BBC Sport website or the app. If you want to

:35:46.:35:50.

contact us in terms of opinions that you have, what's happening at the

:35:51.:35:56.

moment, then we have a Twitter feed. It is a Saturday, we are aware that

:35:57.:35:59.

you have a life to lead, and you can't sit in front of the television

:36:00.:36:03.

all day, so if you are going to go off and take the kids to sport or do

:36:04.:36:09.

the shopping or going to do household utility work, then you can

:36:10.:36:13.

watch or listen to radio five, Radio 5 Live or the BBC website, because

:36:14.:36:18.

across the day and it could be a long, old day as well, you don't

:36:19.:36:22.

have to miss anything. So, our prediction, we don't normally do

:36:23.:36:25.

this, as they're about to get under way, what's your prediction at this

:36:26.:36:29.

stage, John, for what the state of play will be come teatime tonight? I

:36:30.:36:34.

think we'll be up 2-1. Murray could lose this second set. Because it's a

:36:35.:36:38.

toss up. It's Russian roulette with two games to go. I think he'll win

:36:39.:36:42.

in four or five. He may win in three straight and we'll win the doubles,

:36:43.:36:46.

if he plays, which I think he will. I agree. I think he's going to win

:36:47.:36:50.

the singles, agreed. I think he'll play the doubles. If he does, that

:36:51.:36:54.

gives us a very good chance in the doubles. A grow with John, it's

:36:55.:36:58.

going to be 2-1 by the end of the day. On that supremely optimistic

:36:59.:37:02.

note, we hand over to our commentator, who was getting very

:37:03.:37:06.

excited last night at the, as that second set drew to a close. I'm sure

:37:07.:37:11.

he's calmed a bit and is building himself up for a tumultuous climax

:37:12.:37:16.

today. Thank you John, good morning, good

:37:17.:37:22.

morning everybody. I've watched too many Andy Murray matches over the

:37:23.:37:25.

years not to get excited. You know what's coming. And you love it. We

:37:26.:37:28.

all love, it don't we? Sitting through it and hopefully, like the

:37:29.:37:32.

boys say, there's going to be a positive outcome. At the end of the

:37:33.:37:35.

day, despite the drama of yesterday, Murray can still win this match in

:37:36.:37:40.

straight sets. He can still get it done emphatically. That would get

:37:41.:37:44.

Britain, not just back into the tie, but to set them up perfectly for

:37:45.:37:49.

this afternoon's doubles, which will be live on BBC One this afternoon

:37:50.:37:52.

from 1pm. There's the Italian captain. Maybe a little short on

:37:53.:37:59.

shut eye by the look of things. But it was a long day, long, hard day

:38:00.:38:07.

yesterday. A man who has played 61 ties for his country, 32 ties, I beg

:38:08.:38:13.

your pardon, he's 61 years of age. His Davis Cup career lasted between

:38:14.:38:18.

1972 and 1984 as a player, whereas this man, Leon Smith, never played

:38:19.:38:23.

Davis Cup, in fact, he never played tennis at all to any sort prove

:38:24.:38:28.

fegsal standard. Quite rare, in that regard, coming in at this high level

:38:29.:38:33.

as a coach, but worked with Andy Murray from the age of 11. Right

:38:34.:38:38.

through to the junior ranks as well. Now he's very much the man in charge

:38:39.:38:40.

of men's tennis in Great Britain. Absolutely wonderful setting, isn't

:38:41.:38:53.

it? Anyone fancy jetting off there tonight?

:38:54.:39:00.

The forecast suggested it would be a bit grim in Naples this morning, but

:39:01.:39:06.

the sunshine of the last few days has returned. Yesterday was, at this

:39:07.:39:13.

time, terrible. Rain coming down and the prospect of thunder and

:39:14.:39:20.

lightning as well. I thought it was really impressive yesterday from

:39:21.:39:25.

Andy Murray for a number of reasons. Obviously, he has a decent opponent

:39:26.:39:28.

in Andreas Seppi on the other side of the net. But the previous day, on

:39:29.:39:33.

Thursday, he wasn't able to practice at all. He was in bed with a stomach

:39:34.:39:37.

virus, which he seems to be over, at least, but wasn't able to take to

:39:38.:39:41.

the practice court until the evening of the night before his match.

:39:42.:39:45.

Also consider the fact that this is a swift change of surface for him.

:39:46.:39:48.

He's been playing in North America on the hard courts. To start a clay

:39:49.:39:53.

court season, which he normally would do in Monte Carlo, it's always

:39:54.:40:00.

a tricky time of year, switching between surfaces. Now he'll be on

:40:01.:40:04.

clay right through until the end of the French Open.

:40:05.:40:12.

Time. All these clay courts are different. No two are the same.

:40:13.:40:17.

Thankfully this one seems to have dried out a bit around the edges.

:40:18.:40:21.

But that little corner, just to the right of Murray, the bottom

:40:22.:40:26.

right-hand corner of the court was very sodden and was getting dug up

:40:27.:40:28.

quite a bit yesterday. We can only say to you: Settle in

:40:29.:40:43.

and enjoy because this is Davis Cup and it doesn't happen often. And it

:40:44.:40:47.

certainly doesn't happen often that we're able to watch Great Britain in

:40:48.:40:51.

a world group quarter final. A couple of years ago we were in the

:40:52.:41:00.

euro/African nedgeer regions -- nether regions, zone two. Not many

:41:01.:41:06.

of those people were in Lithuania in that snow-bound weekend then. This,

:41:07.:41:13.

a much more hospitable setting. Nice town, though. I know you didn't

:41:14.:41:18.

enjoy that weekend John. None of us did. But it's a nice town. Very

:41:19.:41:22.

pretty. But happy to leave it. We had a few decent nights out, I

:41:23.:41:27.

recall. Here we are in the home of the pizza. Naples, Italy.

:41:28.:41:36.

This man is Andreas Seppi. He's the Italian number two singles player.

:41:37.:41:42.

He's been as high as 18 in the world. He won a string of five-set

:41:43.:41:47.

matches on the tour last year. Never count him out.

:41:48.:42:02.

Morning, John. Morning, Dominic. Lovely conditions, much better than

:42:03.:42:10.

yesterday. Yes. An exciting day today.

:42:11.:42:15.

Straight in right at crunch time of a match.

:42:16.:42:42.

This is not the start that Seppi wanted. He knows how important this

:42:43.:42:47.

set is to his chances of winning this match. To be honest, I don't

:42:48.:42:52.

think he has any chance if he lose that's set. This is not what he

:42:53.:42:54.

would have wanted to start, it's so crucial that he holds this game.

:42:55.:43:50.

Didn't look like a bad bounce. But you will always do that if you

:43:51.:43:57.

mis-hit a ball. You can't blame yourself, surely not!

:43:58.:44:26.

Good point you made yesterday, though, often you do get bad bounces

:44:27.:44:32.

on a clay court. But sometimes you don't realise it, because these

:44:33.:44:38.

players are so skilful they can make last-minute adjustments. Absolutely,

:44:39.:44:41.

they are prepared mentally for that. They know going into the clay, it's

:44:42.:44:45.

not a hard court. You will get bad bounces. They have to prepare their

:44:46.:44:48.

bodies, in the best way that they can, because they know it's going to

:44:49.:44:49.

happen. Andreas Seppi has just settled

:44:50.:45:08.

himself in pretty quickly. He needed to. First two points were a bit

:45:09.:45:12.

dodgy. Then a long third point and I'm sure that gave him a little bit

:45:13.:45:15.

more feel going into the following points.

:45:16.:45:39.

Murray was 4-2 down in this set yesterday.

:45:40.:46:02.

The court's at it again. That's going to do a lot of good. I'm

:46:03.:46:10.

surprised they don't have a roller and roll it till the cows come home,

:46:11.:46:18.

make it as firm as possible. That's pretty bad. That's very close

:46:19.:46:21.

to the baseline as well, where it's going to be massively used up.

:46:22.:46:48.

Right then, first game of the day and after saving all those set

:46:49.:46:54.

points yesterday, now Murray has a break point.

:46:55.:46:59.

Thanchts was an awful -- that was an awful forehand. It's those low

:47:00.:47:08.

forehands that he really struggled with. That's something that James

:47:09.:47:12.

Ward, if he plays him, should try to use.

:47:13.:47:16.

Well, you have to give the Italian credit there. Threading the needle

:47:17.:48:12.

on two big ground strokes, in a row. This is the first one, fabulous

:48:13.:48:19.

backhand. That was just inside the line, on the second. Break point

:48:20.:48:24.

down, about to lose the second set. That was gutsy.

:48:25.:48:44.

What a shot from Murray! He's taken a tumble down there. But he has

:48:45.:48:55.

leathered that forehand. This court is ridiculous, really.

:48:56.:49:02.

What's going on says Murray. He's absolutely right. He's got a

:49:03.:49:05.

break point. Bup it's the same corner -- but it's the same corner

:49:06.:49:09.

of the court they had so many problems with yesterday.

:49:10.:49:14.

What a shot that was. That forehand was an unbelievable shot.

:49:15.:49:20.

The return wasn't bad either. That's definitely, if you didn't have the

:49:21.:49:30.

air cast on right there, that would have been the end of ankle for sure,

:49:31.:49:35.

a twisted ankle, no doubt. You shouldn't have to wear ankle braces

:49:36.:49:39.

on a court if you didn't want to. You're expecting a court to be fine.

:49:40.:50:09.

Oh! Well the quality of tennis just picking up today from where it left

:50:10.:50:17.

off yesterday. That's two big break points he's played there. Think

:50:18.:50:20.

about how well you have to hit it into the corners on break points

:50:21.:50:23.

otherwise you're going to be a break down, possibly 2-0 down, he stepped

:50:24.:50:26.

up. Credit to Seppi there. It's what Murray does to you. He

:50:27.:50:38.

forces you to go for balls close to the line.

:50:39.:50:51.

That shot could win him the set here. That was remarkable. Looks

:50:52.:51:06.

like there's only one winner of this rally from this position. When a

:51:07.:51:10.

change of pace there, beautiful disguise.

:51:11.:51:31.

You could hear him winding up for that winning forehand. It's the shot

:51:32.:51:39.

that takes Britain 6-5 up with a break in the second set.

:51:40.:51:44.

What a body blow this was to the Italian. He couldn't have played a

:51:45.:51:48.

better game, there once he'd got back from 0-30. He still ended up

:51:49.:51:54.

losing it. That's right. If you think about the points that he lost

:51:55.:51:58.

at the end there, he got beaten by an unbelievable lob. Beaten by a

:51:59.:52:03.

great forehand, big shot down the middle, which he wasn't expecting.

:52:04.:52:07.

As you said, he didn't do a lot wrong there at the end and still

:52:08.:52:15.

ends up losing. Over the course of last night and

:52:16.:52:18.

this morning, Murray has now won four of the last five games. That

:52:19.:52:24.

looks dominant on the score card, but it's beening in but. All those

:52:25.:52:29.

-- it's been anything but, all those games have been tight. That's what

:52:30.:52:33.

separates the great players, you know the big points, the points that

:52:34.:52:36.

really matter, they come through 90% of the time. That's why they are

:52:37.:52:42.

where they are. They just know how instinctively to hit the shots on

:52:43.:52:46.

the big points. How to play. Remarkable nerve that Murray showed

:52:47.:52:52.

there. Also in contrast to - you know

:52:53.:52:58.

normally Andy is known as a slow starter. He came out of the blocks

:52:59.:53:02.

firing. We'd love to see that at the beginning of sets more often, when

:53:03.:53:05.

he's playing a normal first set. It's great to see that he's doing

:53:06.:53:09.

that and can consolidate the break and can take himself into the third

:53:10.:53:10.

set with a 2-0 lead. Just no way through for Seppi.

:53:11.:54:35.

Murray setting up a total road block there.

:54:36.:54:38.

Impossible to break down. Looking very strong at the back of the

:54:39.:54:41.

court. He knows when to hit them nice,

:54:42.:54:46.

high, heavy. He knows when to take a little extra time away from Seppi.

:54:47.:54:50.

Seppi has no answers at the moment. This is wonderful tennis we are

:54:51.:56:16.

watching right now! It really does not get much better than theirs. An

:56:17.:56:21.

extraordinary point, well worked from both players. A good approach,

:56:22.:56:26.

and he hit that drop volley from the service box there. This is a very

:56:27.:56:35.

tough shot, and Seppi cars round the edge of the ball. He made it look

:56:36.:56:40.

easy. The balance on the volley there was exceptional.

:56:41.:58:16.

Very well played, Andreas Seppi. Really playing his part there. A

:58:17.:58:26.

memorable Davis cup ties. Brilliant!? That well. He went so

:58:27.:59:11.

early to cover the line and he read it perfect. That was a backhand

:59:12.:59:17.

volley there from Andy Murray. He pushed this volley, this one here,

:59:18.:59:21.

and he just steered it got away from it. Very good anticipation on the

:59:22.:59:28.

next ball. He left that crosscourt wide-open, but he said that he reads

:59:29.:59:32.

the game extremely well. He did it there.

:59:33.:59:45.

Andy Murray is having his usual trick of wanting the same ball back

:59:46.:59:52.

and he's not they have got it. Set point again.

:59:53.:00:14.

I can't believe it. That is the second double fault in this game.

:00:15.:00:26.

The Italian crowds doing whatever they can to try to put off Andy

:00:27.:00:40.

Murray by booing him. Good luck with that!

:00:41.:00:46.

Great serve there. He actually took the pace of the serve to try to get

:00:47.:00:58.

the width on it. Sometimes you don't need a powerful cert if you place it

:00:59.:01:03.

perfectly. You can hit the ball at 100 mph and it is an ace every time.

:01:04.:01:36.

That is it. That is the set that Andy Murray so badly wanted.

:01:37.:01:46.

What a set of tennis it was. The last format games, the whole series

:01:47.:01:55.

of break points, game points, set points, double points, getting stuck

:01:56.:01:58.

in the clay, and most memorably, some spellbinding tennis. The ground

:01:59.:02:07.

him down in the end. From two sets down, the Italian is now, well, can

:02:08.:02:14.

he do it? He had some comeback wins last year for sure, but against a

:02:15.:02:20.

double grand slam winner, this man, Andy Murray, he has two have a very

:02:21.:02:24.

slim chance from here. Naples, Italy, the setting for this

:02:25.:02:44.

Davis cup quarterfinal. Andy Murray is in pain at times. His trainers

:02:45.:02:48.

were getting caught in the sodden clay, not ideal. Both players are

:02:49.:02:55.

battling hard, but right on the Bay of Naples. I like the look of

:02:56.:03:00.

those! Send a couple our way, please! Very handy for those

:03:01.:03:06.

spectators. Why would you sit there and watch television when there is a

:03:07.:03:11.

bar right behind you? I had my eye on the beach in the background.

:03:12.:03:14.

Clearly we have differing viewpoints about what we are looking at. That

:03:15.:03:19.

is the athlete Dominic Inglot for you. Here is the Stirling University

:03:20.:03:25.

support brigade dancing their way around the stand. And another big

:03:26.:03:33.

weekend, this, from Andy Murray, hoping to lead Great Britain into

:03:34.:03:39.

the Davis Cup semifinals. And what a weekend it was last summer when he

:03:40.:03:40.

won at Wimbledon title. As Andy Murray starts the defence of

:03:41.:03:52.

his Wimbledon crown this summer, we are looking for your Wimbledon

:03:53.:03:57.

memories. Where were you when he won his title on the 7th of July last

:03:58.:04:01.

year? If you have any photographs or videos of that moment when he won,

:04:02.:04:08.

if you have anything and would like to share it, as part of that

:04:09.:04:10.

programme, you can e-mail us. Do something useful with it before

:04:11.:04:26.

you press delete. That is big. That is the frustration

:04:27.:06:24.

that creeps in when you play Andy Murray. Seppi thinks he's in a good

:06:25.:06:30.

position to win this rally, and then back it comes at him, angled out

:06:31.:06:36.

wide, and he loses the point. That is his defensive ability, that he

:06:37.:06:40.

can change an outcome of a point, Andy Murray, he is right up there

:06:41.:06:41.

with the best. Once again, we see the pressure of

:06:42.:07:19.

Murray's defensive abilities. Against any other player, Seppi

:07:20.:07:22.

would have rolled that into the corner, but against Andy Murray, he

:07:23.:07:27.

knows that not will be -- will not be good enough. He misses it,

:07:28.:07:32.

because he knows that Andy Murray could do any of a number of shots

:07:33.:07:36.

and forces his opponent into a mistake.

:07:37.:08:57.

That is a brilliant point. That really is. Clay-court tennis at its

:08:58.:09:10.

best from the Italian. Using the angles. The short angle, then he

:09:11.:09:16.

gets around, good footwork, opposite direction. Murray, never able to get

:09:17.:09:21.

ahead of that rally. Seppi so accurate.

:09:22.:09:42.

How can he be that accurate? I think Murray is asking.

:09:43.:10:30.

Lovely point, he took the second serve early, rushed Seppi, so he

:10:31.:10:37.

couldn't get the ball deep and he stepped in on the backhand once

:10:38.:10:38.

more. Good pressure from Andy. Third break point in the game for

:10:39.:11:13.

Murray. Yet again, another game of multiple dueces.

:11:14.:11:59.

He's not happy. Ever the perfectionist.

:12:00.:12:20.

Oh, that went horribly wrong. If you get an overhead like that against

:12:21.:12:30.

Murray, you've got to do better than that. That was only going to come

:12:31.:12:35.

back with interest. It caught the line. Seppi saves four

:12:36.:14:25.

break points. He has to to win. Good game from Seppi but Andy is still

:14:26.:14:28.

upset at himself for missing flat forehand when he was up break point.

:14:29.:14:32.

He knows you don't want to give your opponent points. You want to press,

:14:33.:14:40.

but measured. Measured aggression. And he gave it away. He was

:14:41.:14:44.

impatient when he hit the forehand, which is why he is still only in

:14:45.:14:56.

himself. It is amazing, though, in terms of Seppi's first serves, he

:14:57.:15:01.

hit some big ones. But he is loose now, his arm has got loose because

:15:02.:15:06.

he has lost the first two sets. If he had done that earlier, he might

:15:07.:15:11.

be in better position. When you get tight, the serve can get off a bit.

:15:12.:15:15.

You need to relax, and he served very well in that last game.

:15:16.:15:28.

We haven't seen Murray that stressed in a game for some time. It is a

:15:29.:15:39.

sign of how much he cares, for sure. I think he also... He wants to get

:15:40.:15:44.

this match over with. His conscious of the fact that an hour and a half,

:15:45.:15:50.

he will have to play the doubles. He wants to win this in three sets.

:15:51.:16:04.

However much you are a pro, he has got to take care of business. It's

:16:05.:16:10.

difficult not to wander ahead in your mind, to wonder what is going

:16:11.:16:16.

to come up. I agree, subconsciously, it's in the back of your head.

:16:17.:16:19.

You're thinking, I've got to get this done with.

:16:20.:16:46.

Lovely lob from Seppi. One each now. Murray just clipped it with his

:16:47.:16:55.

frame but it still goes down as a brilliant forehand lob from Seppi to

:16:56.:17:04.

win him the point. Just another example of these days, with the

:17:05.:17:08.

approach shot, it has to be so good, the ground strokes of players, what

:17:09.:17:12.

they can do with pace and lobs, it's remarkable. It was a good approach

:17:13.:17:15.

from Murray. The string allows for that. Exactly.

:17:16.:17:22.

Modern day equipment. You can understand why players are

:17:23.:17:39.

hesitant to come into the net because of the passing shots.

:17:40.:17:48.

That was a good sneak attack, but didn't get any reward for it.

:17:49.:18:15.

Doesn't look to let Seppi get back into the match to let him get an

:18:16.:18:54.

early break in the third. Good footwork to try to get around the

:18:55.:18:58.

forehand to make sure he is in good position and he executed

:18:59.:18:59.

beautifully. The last nine games of the match

:19:00.:20:25.

have had multiple deuces, very, very tight.

:20:26.:20:53.

No point going for that one. The time issue is a big factor. We have

:20:54.:21:02.

two hours until the scheduled start of the doubles. I'm sure Murray

:21:03.:21:08.

would like a break if he does intend to play with Colin Fleming.

:21:09.:21:14.

Absolutely, he doesn't want to go on the court coming off not having

:21:15.:21:22.

enough time to have a proper meal, a good stretch, a warm down. If he

:21:23.:21:26.

doesn't have enough time to do that, and he feels like he is Russian, he

:21:27.:21:31.

doesn't want to feel like that. -- he feels like he is rushing.

:21:32.:21:47.

On the other hand, Fleming and Hutchins are the nominated doubles

:21:48.:21:55.

pairing, established team, even though Ross has only come back, we

:21:56.:21:59.

don't know what Captain Smith is thinking. The good thing is those

:22:00.:22:08.

guys have played so much that if they are thrown on, they will be

:22:09.:22:16.

ready because there is no use to getting -- there is no getting used

:22:17.:22:17.

to each other. UMPIRE: Let, first service. It's not

:22:18.:22:34.

my fork, the machine beeped! The computer says no!

:22:35.:22:42.

Well, what a thing! A love service hold. That was an easy service game,

:22:43.:23:55.

for the first time. That was a good weight of shot behind the Murray

:23:56.:23:58.

ground strokes but then he found himself in a very awkward position.

:23:59.:24:06.

That is no man's land, really. Stressful business on current

:24:07.:24:11.

evidence, when you think back to that Wimbledon title, it makes you

:24:12.:24:15.

wonder how he actually managed to get it done. And extraordinary final

:24:16.:24:21.

game when he saved all the break points. If he had lost that final

:24:22.:24:26.

game and in broken back, I do not think he would be Wimbledon champion

:24:27.:24:32.

now. It would have been very tough. It was remarkable how he came

:24:33.:24:34.

through to win that with the pressure on him there. You can't

:24:35.:24:42.

imagine it. And when you also consider that he was under more

:24:43.:24:44.

pressure when he was facing the break back point, when he was on a

:24:45.:24:50.

deuce point, you could argue that the closest Djokovic tainted victory

:24:51.:24:55.

was when he was match point down, because he had been playing those

:24:56.:24:59.

shots with freedom. An amazing match.

:25:00.:25:06.

Italy has a grand slam winner of course, years back. Italian women's

:25:07.:25:21.

tennis has been on the crest of a wave in the last few years.

:25:22.:25:51.

So we are going with serve in the third set. A few latecomers are just

:25:52.:26:03.

behind Seppi, distracting Andy Murray as he prepares to serve.

:26:04.:26:09.

Just oblivious to the world. Take a seat! Any one will do.

:26:10.:26:42.

A good mix-up. Seppi knows that the reason Andy Murray is so good at

:26:43.:26:53.

defending if here so far behind the baseline. That is why he is able to

:26:54.:26:57.

cover the court. If he can't get through him, will have to try to

:26:58.:27:02.

come -- forcing to come closer to the baseline. Good choice of shots

:27:03.:27:03.

there. Also, in a weird way, losing the

:27:04.:27:17.

second set has made him lose, Seppi. He is going for it more, his

:27:18.:27:21.

forehand is better and his serve has got a bit more point she -- punch on

:27:22.:27:24.

it. He's just going for it now. Tremendous support, when you think

:27:25.:27:49.

of it. Very rarely, when you are playing the Davis Cup in Italy, the

:27:50.:27:57.

opposing team supporters are at doing -- outdoing the home support

:27:58.:28:00.

with the noise. It is amazing, really.

:28:01.:28:09.

Three of those so far today for Andy Murray. And on big points as well.

:28:10.:28:38.

Breakdown in the third set. The ultra-solid Seppi, perhaps he starts

:28:39.:28:55.

to come back. As soon as Andy Murray loses a couple of first serves, that

:28:56.:29:00.

is when he lets it slip. The thing though he is really good on the

:29:01.:29:11.

baseline, he is giving his opponent free points. It is always important

:29:12.:29:14.

to get your first serve percentage as high as possible.

:29:15.:29:49.

Seppi broke for a 4-2 lead in the second set. Andy Murray hit straight

:29:50.:30:01.

back. Looking to do the same here. There is the mark in the clay.

:30:02.:30:09.

It looks like he has taken a bit off his first serve there. Is Andy

:30:10.:30:15.

Murray is counterpunching off his first serve, he hasn't put that much

:30:16.:30:17.

on it. He took that so early, there,

:30:18.:31:26.

Murray. He did not give Seppi any time to recover. He makes it look

:31:27.:31:33.

easy, but in time, this sort of ball, it is not easy to see how he

:31:34.:31:35.

took that. He knows he has been letting him off

:31:36.:33:09.

the hook there, in the previous game and in this one, he is letting him

:33:10.:33:11.

get away with some of these. It is incredible how some of the

:33:12.:33:23.

tower serves are followed by one fleeting back on the stretch. When

:33:24.:33:28.

he has more time to think about it, that is when you can overthink and

:33:29.:33:30.

make mistakes. Has he made it? I think he has.

:33:31.:34:19.

Barry -- Andy Murray is not sure where the mark is. It was called in.

:34:20.:34:34.

He has been bowled on so many of the break points he has faced today.

:34:35.:35:31.

Just pushed it long. I have to say, what a flick on a hard volley from

:35:32.:35:39.

Andy Murray. That has effectively won him that point. He got caught in

:35:40.:35:45.

no man's land there, Andy Murray, and he improvised beautifully, but

:35:46.:35:49.

once again, that shop there, he had to try to make it so good, because

:35:50.:35:53.

he knows what is coming next with Andy Murray's pass, and he just

:35:54.:35:58.

overcooked it. We have seen a few times today. That is the pressure

:35:59.:35:59.

that Andy Murray puts on you. A rare lapse, Seppi double faulting

:36:00.:36:33.

on that fourth break points. Andy Murray is back in the set,

:36:34.:36:36.

retrieving the break straightaway, just that he did in the second set

:36:37.:36:42.

yesterday afternoon. Seppi knew that if he is going to float lines to the

:36:43.:36:47.

back, he is going to be rushed, and he has been rushed to many times. He

:36:48.:36:53.

tried to change it up. It is amazing how tactics can win you points, but

:36:54.:36:57.

it can also win you points later on just by putting on a compound in

:36:58.:37:02.

pressure on your opponent, and then trying to do too much later on come

:37:03.:37:07.

as he tried to do then when you try to return that drop shot. You have

:37:08.:37:12.

to think about a couple of points ahead, not just the one you are

:37:13.:37:21.

playing. He did well then, Andy Murray, to break back again. His

:37:22.:37:25.

level has dropped a bit in this third set, and you expect the

:37:26.:37:31.

scenario coming into this match, I thought he could lose that set.

:37:32.:37:44.

Seppi opened up his shoulders. It is dangerous to play against an

:37:45.:37:47.

opponent who suddenly gets loose. Andy Murray lost it a bit. A couple

:37:48.:37:56.

of shaky serves. But a wonderful competitor, he bounces back with a

:37:57.:38:00.

break when he needs it, and that is what separates the very good players

:38:01.:38:04.

from the great players. Still got a long way to go, to close this match

:38:05.:38:10.

out. He's playing against an opponent who is much looser and more

:38:11.:38:11.

dangerous. It does not leave Seppi anywhere to

:38:12.:38:53.

go with that shot there. If he had gone across court, he would at --

:38:54.:38:57.

have been at risk of a runaround forehand drive.

:38:58.:39:12.

That was bad. He finished three quarters of the way up of the net.

:39:13.:39:22.

It is noted good double fault. It looked like he didn't accelerate on

:39:23.:39:27.

it. He should look at the scoreboard and

:39:28.:41:53.

draw encouragement here. It is now 3-3. And Murray is a bit

:41:54.:42:19.

closer. It is a matter of the few games.

:42:20.:42:31.

Seppi won't go away, he knows what it takes to win in five sets. He won

:42:32.:42:39.

two matches in Wimbledon last summer in five sets.

:42:40.:42:58.

Way to close on that volley. He just bumped it with his hands. How many

:42:59.:43:10.

times has Murray and has abated that shot-mac? -- that shot? He has to go

:43:11.:43:19.

one way and the other, Murray has picked it so many times.

:43:20.:43:33.

I think when Seppi has that inside out foot, and he goes crosscourt, we

:43:34.:43:40.

already talked about how he can't get the ball up and down which

:43:41.:43:44.

leaves him that crosscourt option where he has got a longer part of

:43:45.:43:48.

the court to go into, a lower part of the net to do it over, some are

:43:49.:43:54.

better chance for Kim. And Andy is starting to read that. -- a better

:43:55.:43:55.

chance for him. Opportunity here. You are right. He

:43:56.:44:16.

is pushing for the lines because he knows he has to. You cannot leave

:44:17.:44:22.

yourself margins for error with the very best players in the world.

:44:23.:45:05.

How has he missed it? Cannot believe it! Great recovery from Seppi.

:45:06.:45:17.

Unbelievable! Well, Saturday morning, and if you are a young

:45:18.:45:21.

tennis player watching at home just learning the game, look what Seppi

:45:22.:45:25.

does. He makes Murray play one more shot, and it is that shot that he

:45:26.:45:31.

misses. So you get the point. Put in the effort, you will get the

:45:32.:45:32.

rewards. The umpire said it was advantage

:45:33.:46:53.

Italy! But it is break point Britain.

:46:54.:47:33.

Murray this time doing the legwork. Great tennis. He recovered, he put

:47:34.:47:44.

the high lob in. He keeps himself in the point. Just excellent. Murray,

:47:45.:47:50.

buying himself a little bit of time and those points to recover

:47:51.:47:55.

position. Again, this is great Saturday morning education for young

:47:56.:47:58.

tennis players. Watch what these pros are doing. Let's go courtside

:47:59.:48:05.

and join Russell Fuller. What's the word from the team bench about what

:48:06.:48:10.

might happen in the doubles? I think there is very little doubt that it

:48:11.:48:15.

will be Murray playing with Colin Fleming, that are subject to a quick

:48:16.:48:19.

health check from Andy Murray. He will let snow exactly how that knee

:48:20.:48:23.

feels after verse lied when he got his knee caught up in the clay, his

:48:24.:48:30.

foot caught up. If he can win this match in straight sets, that has

:48:31.:48:35.

been plan a and plan B in many ways for Murray to play the doubles with

:48:36.:48:40.

Colin Fleming. Even though these sets have been longer than he would

:48:41.:48:45.

like, you can see the glint in his eye and the absolute determination.

:48:46.:48:48.

I do think he wants to leave it to anyone else. It's not that he

:48:49.:48:55.

doesn't trust Ross Hutchins, but he wants to do it himself. That was

:48:56.:49:01.

Russell, on court, and he will be talking to Andy Murray in a few

:49:02.:49:04.

minutes time. Into the fourth hour of this match. He is ahead, 4-3. I

:49:05.:49:17.

don't think the knee issue... You would have seen it with his movement

:49:18.:49:21.

if there was any problems after the slip. And he has been moving like

:49:22.:49:25.

lightning out there so I would be surprised if that is a factor.

:49:26.:50:11.

Yes, I think his spirit is broken. Gave him a call of hope in the third

:50:12.:50:22.

set with that rate but then incredible defensive play from

:50:23.:50:27.

Murray. And now he has lost that will little bit. Great serving.

:50:28.:50:49.

And thank you very much. Love service hold for 5-3. Murray is a

:50:50.:51:01.

game away from levelling this tie at 1-1. It is building nicely, isn't

:51:02.:51:07.

it? We knew it would be a tight weekend. But it is delivering on

:51:08.:51:13.

quality. As much as on drama. Murray is turning on the style now.

:51:14.:52:29.

He is heading towards the chequered flag of the match.

:52:30.:53:11.

He cleaned the line! You have to give Andreas Seppi enormous credit

:53:12.:53:19.

for kids role in this match over two days. Poor guy, he has fought for

:53:20.:53:27.

over three hours, he has played some spellbinding stuff, and he has

:53:28.:53:31.

practically nothing to show for it! Is going to lose in straight sets,

:53:32.:53:33.

the way it is going. Just wide! That would have been the

:53:34.:54:07.

shot of the day! Probably the shot of the day in any match for a long

:54:08.:54:12.

time on balance. You get the impression Andy Murray

:54:13.:54:54.

wants to finish it here. What a game of tricks and flicks and drives and

:54:55.:55:02.

now match point. The second serve is something I've been impressed with.

:55:03.:55:07.

Brighten the Corners. -- right in the Corners. I've really enjoyed it.

:55:08.:55:15.

I know he had to hit an incredible passing shot, but he could use this

:55:16.:55:21.

to -- tactic a little bit more often.

:55:22.:55:48.

Murray really does finish it in style.

:55:49.:55:53.

His last two games were absolutely critical, and that is Murray at his

:55:54.:55:56.

best. Just serving great service, he

:55:57.:56:03.

doesn't look like he's going to miss. Exceptional.

:56:04.:56:19.

Well, he won the last five games of the match. Don't forget, he was

:56:20.:56:28.

fully one down in that as Seppi launched a mini fightback.

:56:29.:56:32.

It did not last long, though. These days there is a bit of a danger that

:56:33.:56:36.

we take Andy Murray victories for granted. Make no mistake, that took

:56:37.:56:42.

huge determination, skill and effort to get that done in straight sets.

:56:43.:56:48.

And now give him the chance of an hour and a half before coming back

:56:49.:56:53.

to play doubles for Great Britain. I think so, but he has to take care of

:56:54.:56:58.

his recovery. That will require a warm down,

:56:59.:57:02.

protein shakes potentially, a good meal to be ready for the doubles.

:57:03.:57:15.

Murray, 6-4, 6-5, six -- 7-3. One of his best wins lately, I would

:57:16.:57:22.

suggest. STUDIO: It is 1-1 at the end of this first tie between Italy

:57:23.:57:27.

and Great Britain in Naples. And there is the scoring the other

:57:28.:57:30.

matches. The Czech Republic are through the semifinals already,

:57:31.:57:42.

France are 2-0 down against Germany. Switzerland are drawing with

:57:43.:57:44.

Kazakhstan and the winner of that match will play the winner of this.

:57:45.:57:50.

What did you make of that at the end flag?

:57:51.:57:53.

Brilliant, I have seen it a thousand times with great players how they

:57:54.:57:58.

come through and hit the big points when they are in trouble or

:57:59.:58:02.

whatever, and you see it again and it becomes almost regulation, but

:58:03.:58:06.

you don't realise how much pleasure he was under there.

:58:07.:58:09.

Seppi came back in the third and once again he finds to great points

:58:10.:58:13.

and that is what great players do. It is a remarkable performance.

:58:14.:58:18.

There was a moment he was broken early in the third set and the crowd

:58:19.:58:21.

were getting at them, but immediately he broke back which is

:58:22.:58:27.

what happened yesterday. That is right.

:58:28.:58:29.

You could see the spirit of Seppi after that, you was destroyed. But

:58:30.:58:34.

some of the points, it was not like Seppi give it to him, Murray had

:58:35.:58:39.

come with some extraordinary shots from defensive positions. It is that

:58:40.:58:44.

ability has a new sealed over and over again, you almost expect it, he

:58:45.:58:50.

comes through almost every time. How frustrating as it playing a

:58:51.:58:54.

player with those looping forehand is that always gives a match as to

:58:55.:58:58.

get into position? A complete nightmare, because in the end you

:58:59.:59:03.

have to start going for lines, anything other than that and it will

:59:04.:59:07.

come back to you. He has the variation of pace, the

:59:08.:59:11.

drop shot, the big serve, he is quick as lightning. When you go to

:59:12.:59:17.

bed the night before playing him he must think, heavens, what have I got

:59:18.:59:22.

to look forward to tomorrow? Let's you from the man of the moment now

:59:23.:59:26.

with Russell Fuller. Andy, many congratulations, the

:59:27.:59:30.

perfect morning's work, a victory strict sets. Yes, the last few games

:59:31.:59:39.

went by quite quick, but the start of the match, we came back on, there

:59:40.:59:43.

was a long first few games and at the beginning of the third set there

:59:44.:59:48.

was a lot of long games, it was good I managed to finish that in straight

:59:49.:59:51.

sets. At least I can be an option for the

:59:52.:59:56.

doubled if Leon wants to use me. You have to have that conversation with

:59:57.:00:00.

Leon Smith first, but will you be wanting to play doubles this

:00:01.:00:04.

afternoon to Michael it is not necessarily my decision also -- will

:00:05.:00:08.

you be wanting to doubles this afternoon?

:00:09.:00:13.

It is not necessarily my decision, I will speak to the doctor as well and

:00:14.:00:21.

see what he thinks. If they are sure they are going to

:00:22.:00:25.

get the job done and maybe it makes more sense for them to play, we will

:00:26.:00:29.

go and chat about it now. Do you feel physically ready yourself?

:00:30.:00:35.

I was a little bit tired this morning when I got up, but once I

:00:36.:00:41.

got going I felt OK, I felt pretty good, it is pretty dangerous on this

:00:42.:00:48.

court and you have to be careful and hope no one gets hurt. Finally,

:00:49.:00:54.

there was that one particular corner where you looked like you hurt your

:00:55.:00:59.

knee early on and is it difficult running across clade to completely

:01:00.:01:03.

trust the surface? -- running across clay. This side is

:01:04.:01:13.

fine, but there are a lot of bad bounces and that corner is

:01:14.:01:15.

dangerous. I don't believe that is good

:01:16.:01:18.

enough. If this was on the tournament, they would not be using

:01:19.:01:23.

this court. They will have to talk about that after the tie because the

:01:24.:01:26.

last thing you want is people getting injured because of a bad

:01:27.:01:30.

surface. It does not need to be like that. We will let you go and talk to

:01:31.:01:33.

the doctor and Leon, well done again, Andy.

:01:34.:01:38.

Some strong words from our number one.

:01:39.:01:41.

What do you make of the court? Years absolutely right.

:01:42.:01:43.

It is disgraceful what has happened and whoever makes the report on it,

:01:44.:01:50.

I would think they should be fined. -- he is absolutely right. It should

:01:51.:01:55.

not be allowed in any group match in the Davis Cup for them to have

:01:56.:01:58.

messed up the way they have done. It is unacceptable.

:01:59.:02:03.

The match could hinge on what happens in the doubles that will

:02:04.:02:07.

start at 1pm on BBC One, which we are assuming is going to be Colin

:02:08.:02:12.

Fleming and Andy Murray, but that is yet to be confirmed. It is a pretty

:02:13.:02:24.

safe bet. Football focus today is at 12:10pm on BBC One. We all to

:02:25.:02:27.

mention as well that the women's World Cup qualifier, England against

:02:28.:02:35.

Montenegro, is at 12:45pm on BBC Two. -- we ought to mention. Lots of

:02:36.:02:39.

double faults to be an Andy Murray's game.

:02:40.:02:43.

That was strange. He did not serve very well, his serve was a bit off,

:02:44.:02:48.

not as many first serves as you to make and his second looked a bit

:02:49.:02:53.

shaky. That could be a concern in the doubles. If he goes middle of

:02:54.:02:58.

the court with those second service with not much on them we could be in

:02:59.:03:03.

trouble. Assuming that he does play, the

:03:04.:03:07.

decision to play him and Fleming, is there an element of a gamble in

:03:08.:03:12.

that? Nor, I think Andy was very

:03:13.:03:17.

diplomatic parent respectful to his captain saying that it is his

:03:18.:03:21.

choice, but it is only choice, if he wants to play, he will play. -- it

:03:22.:03:28.

is Andy's dreads. We have had some spellbinding tennis, Davis Cup

:03:29.:03:32.

doubles invariably does not disappoint and we could be in for a

:03:33.:03:35.

long afternoon and let's hope it is a good one from British tennis's

:03:36.:03:38.

perspective. We will see you at 1pm, just time to

:03:39.:03:42.

go and put a bet on for this afternoon.

:03:43.:03:42.

Goodbye.
