The Davis Cup, the ultimate prize in men's team tennis. To win it, they

must display unity, team spirit. No individual can win it alone but an

outstanding individual can underpin his team's journey. Playing that

role has been Andy Murray. Andy Murray has put them in the driving

seat. Seven victories out of seven in singles, three wins out of three

in doubles. He has been part of ten of the 11 points Great Britain has

one so far. In 2012 he became Britain's first Olympic gold

medallist in tennis since 1908. He became Britain's first Grand Slam

champion since Fred Perry. Now, in 2015, can the history man write

another chapter and secure the World Cup of tennis for himself, his

country and his team? It has been his goal all year to win the Davis

Cup. This is what both teams are playing for. Last one by Great

Britain in 1936 and never by Belgium. One of the iconic

trophies. The excitement is building and the countdown is on for the

final day of competition. What a cheer from the fans. They

know how important this is. One more victory from Andy Murray would see

Great Britain as Davis Cup champions. We are all set for what

could be a memorable day for British tennis. Belgium also have a chance

to win the cup. They need to win both singles matches. The British

team know what they need to do. We are ready. Belgium, as you can see,

are trailing by one point. They need to win both matches. If Andy Murray

can beat David Goffin then Britain will be champions. How good does

that sound? It has been such a journey. It has been an amazing

occasion. To come from where we've come from. Only a few years back we

were not in good shape. We could win this Davis Cup and what a great

boost for British tennis. Andy Murray, we spoke about that, winning

ten of the 11 matches. It is an exceptional performance in a busy

tennis year. It is. He has made room for it. Who knows how many more

years he will make room for it. There is no way he can make a

tournament after the Davis Cup and give his best. He has made the

sacrifice. Worth making a point, David Goffin has also not lost a

singles either. This is not a foregone conclusion. We are not

taking it for granted but we are so close to a massive triumph. He

certainly has got world-class opposition against him, David Goffin

has never taken a set of Andy Murray. Could be a tense finish to

the afternoon. What an afternoon it was with the Murray brothers. They

were a breakdown in the third set. It was not easy. It was not easy at

all. On clay court, that is not Jamie Murray's best surface by any

means. There were times when he wobbled. Andy Murray, I don't think

he missed the return in the last three sets. It was a great effort.

feel for what it is like. The atmosphere is nothing like I've

heard that a tennis match before. The fans have been singing all

weekend long. They have not stopped. I just want to say, everybody has

played their part but despite all the pandemonium, Andy Murray has a

job to do. This is what he's been so good at. Whilst we can all go crazy,

he's got a job to do. He will be taking nothing for granted. They

will do everything they can to get him through this, the crowd.

The crowd do play their part and Andy Murray is a player who loves

getting them involved. I don't think even minds it when the crowd are

against him. It is an interesting matchup, David Goffin is a hell of a

player. But you look at the matchup, and as long as Andy Murray is

patient, which I think he will be, I cannot see where Goffin has the

weapons to hurt Andy Murray whereas Andy Murray can hurt Goffin,

especially with the serve. I think Andy Murray will get through. Andy

Murray has been in some big matches but never in the Davis Cup final

before. He was doing a lot of second serves, Andy Murray. I think he will

attack Goffin's second serve. I think he will and I think Goffin

will do the same with Andy Murray, but it is so tough. How do you break

Andy Murray's defences? As long as Andy keeps his focus, which he will,

I cannot see any way he will lose this match. We

to find out if Andy Murray and Great Britain can create history. On

behalf of the British Davis Cup team, we have turned up in large

numbers. GB are in the Davis Cup final! A

monumental effort. It has been an incredible journey. The last five

years under Leon Smith. Here they are, one away from winning the Davis

Cup. Everybody knows how important this match is for British tennis,

nobody more so than Andy Murray. This has been his target all year.

We are ready. This is an enormous atmosphere in

here. 15,000 people. Plenty of Brits. Tickets were not easy to get.

Everybody is here has had phenomenal entertainment.

Captain Leon Smith has handled his team well. James Ward was heroic

against the United States earlier. He may play later if required.

Nobody who follows the game would think for a moment that this takes

anything other than absolute concentration and composer. The only

man who can talk to Andy Murray directly is Leon Smith, his captain

at the site. These are testing moments.

There is the response. That is what marks him out as a competitor.

It is between the number one players. It is the World Cup of

tennis. At the end of any player's career they will look back on the

Grand Slam championships and the Davis Cup and perhaps the Olympics

and they say, how did I do? Andy Murray would like a full set of

those things. This year, a semifinalist at the French. He is

yet to win it but he thinks he can. The Davis Cup would be an enormous

feather in his cap. He has been in the scaly and open final in times --

the Australian open. It is up to Goffin to get close, which he has

not done in matches they have played before. Has not managed to get a

set. No Hawk-Eye, the old-fashioned clay-court method of inspection.

The support and the encouragement is there and he has an excellent

captain on the side but what in his game, over five sets on clay, has he

got against a man who has pummelled him in the last two times. It'll be

interesting to see what tactics employs.

That has fired up the captain. He had a decent Avis cup record

himself. Beat a lot of top players. -- Davis Cup.

Second serve absolutely got the treatment there. Goffin went over

pushing off but such was the pace of this return he did have to spin his

wheels. Nothing happened for him. It is a break point. If you are tuning

in for Formula One, that is on BBC Two. Flip over if that is your

thing. Otherwise, Davis Cup final action on

BBC One. Got -- ten two needed to make some

big chances to get ahead in the point. Does not get any free points

on his serve. Andy Murray is returning that no problem. He gets

cheap points every game. It is a big difference. It takes its toll over

five sets. Interesting timing between points. They definitely went

over the time. He has experienced this atmosphere

on a number of occasions, Henri Leconte.

The Belgian number one, a good game from break point. He knows that

Murray is stepping in on the second serve and he adjusted. Risky tactic.

He might need to keep going for that serve and he adjusted. Risky tactic.

kind of thing because otherwise Andy Murray will go ahead in the rally

and put him under pressure for the first strike. Tactics come into

play. Things could change so much during a match.

So good there from Murray, deeper and deeper, playing out wide, then

he opens up, gets in on the back foot and a drop shot comes in. Great

tactics. It is awaited tie your opponent, and your opponent, where

him down. This is the big advantage of this

matchup, Andy Murray can do that on his serve. Almost unreturnable.

Seven minutes, it took Goffin to win his opening service game. That

serves to win the momentum. Just having a little look around the

crowd. I have got Jeremy Bates to the left of me broadcasting, I have

John Lloyd to the right. Jokers to the left of me! I was thinking about

Jeremy Bates picking Andy Murray for the doubles in 2005. He played

unbelievably well. Not a bad man to pick as your number one. Look, Andy

Murray says this in the press. He says it is not that easy to win this

match because you guys, talking about us, expect him to win every

time. Yes, we do. That is because you are so good. It is not easy to

win three matches in a Davis Cup tie and Murray, I think he will win this

match, it is exhausting, mentally and physically. It is draining. He

has been brilliant at it. No question about it. Certainly could

not afford to lose on the first aid. He did not. -- on the first day.

Goffin is not some junior who just rocked up. Number 16 in the world.

He has not lost a Davis Cup match, Murray is after that serve and

is what he wants to do on Andy Murray's second serve. Throws a

under their skin. High was that second serve? Mark

that as a moment of importance in this second set. The physical

second serve return mess, break point up, then our failure to get

the footwork right to our short ball.

Murray did well there, actually played two sloppy points, which is

unusual for him, he tried at the drop shot from a pure position on

the court, then a backhand missed to go down break point, did well to get

out of that, then a couple of sloppy points, then got right back on top

again. Great support, all the way through for Great Britain. Great

Britain fleeing the United States, 3-2 over the United States. France

beating Germany, then Andy Murray wrapping that up with a great

victory, one week after taking that the drubbing from Federer. And the

doubles were excellent for Jamie Murray. Semifinals against

Australia, and a massive win earlier on this year for James Ward as well

against John Isner in that United States tie. But the three Grand Slam

nations have been defeated by the fourth, Great Britain, to make this

final. Just having a word about how they are going to handle this crowd

noise, it is always the single voice, rather than the many.

MAN SHOUTS BOOING

The moralising point for the Belgian. -- demoralising. Comes in,

then gets passed after a tremendous defensive display from Murray there.

And that is away! Three break points. Every time Goffin Mrs the

first served, big danger for him, Murray taking it early, putting him

under such pressure with the early return.

We saw our few of these yesterday from that side in the doubles, and

look, inside the baseline, and Murray one of those players, once he

starts saying he will not stop any time soon, almost as if the break

point he faced in his own service game galvanised his effort and he

needed to shift it up a gear, and he certainly did. 4-2, with a break.

The tennis season coming to a close at the same time the F1 season, if

you are into Formula 1, it is on BBC Two at the moment. Lewis Hamilton,

etc, on BBC Two, we are staying on BBC One for the conclusion of this

Davis Cup final. Ten of the last 11 points, since

being break point down, that heavy second serve at 2-1. Murray looking

to take this match by the scruff of the neck.

Well, that really just sends out a message. This is what happens when

you get your best out at me, I give better. Goffin not expecting that,

did not set out on time. No thoughts the ball would come at him like

that. That sum that up well. And Goffin, on his serve, only at 41% on

his first serves, in that situation now where, what does he do? He wants

to get ahead in the rally by hitting big serves, but if he misses it, his

second serve so vulnerable to Murray, does he get a high

percentage of first serves? That does not work either, he just has to

get more first serves in. The defending champions, Belgium, Pete

Switzerland. Switzerland without Wawrinka. Goffin winning his

matches. And he had his victims in the semifinals. Against the

Argentine team. Goffin not beaten in singles this year but he beat Kyle

Edmund on the first day from two sets down, but I am not sure he can

break Murray down to date, we will see. He is not a big headed lad, but

these things are enormous! The crowd has been great nature, but spilling

over earlier on in this set, with a few people trying to put Murray of

particularly. But no harm done. News tennis balls, Goffin serving. --

new. That one just catching the roof, 12

metres up, the minimum required. Actually, this one is 11 metres and

97 centimetres, but the Davis Cup committee allowed it. This agility,

especially after the Paris attacks, certainly an issue in Brussels more

than Ghent, but Ghent having its problems as well, but everything

going smoothly so far. This is a great effort from the

Belgian number one, three set points he has saved, had to scrabble and

change direction and hang in. He was scampering all over the place. He

wants to make Murray serve for this. You never know. He wants to stop the

rot as well, three games in a row. That is a split step about one

metre, meter and a half, from the baseline, then he has a choice to go

across court, then down the line. Murray slaps it down the line.

UMPIRE: Great Britain leads five games to three. The last ten or 15

minutes might have looked unpredictable, all assuming Andy

Murray would win the set, but now he has to get the job done. Never easy,

Davis Cup final set number one, Murray serving for it.

He had the opportunity to play a drop shot earlier in that rally,

when he had money back, but chose the wrong time. He had a chance on

the forehand, but elected to stay back, probably the fear factor,

because of the last time. Not that comfortable at the net, Goffin, not

the best part of his game. That is a bad error there. Very good

return of serve, set himself up to do damage with the forehand. It is

like he's sort of spun out of that shot, didn't stay with it.

and this time, on his own serve, he puts Great Britain in the lead, one

set to Murray against Goffin, asset closer to a Davis Cup victory. --

one set closer. And the news is good, because Murray, when he has

won the first set, he has won 61 matches and lost nine. They'd get a

view from courtside. This is a Davis Cup final, about

courage, hard, dealing with pressure. But two things, the

weakness of the second serve from Goffin, his split stepping inside

the baseline, and the second thing, perhaps most decisive, the weight of

shot from Andy Murray is much heavier than David Goffin. And they

does not need to luck to make -- Andy Murray does not need to look to

make knockout punches. And as well as being physically stronger than

his Belgian opponent, the belief is sapping out of him point by point,

so I don't know what the Belgian can do. It is a big ask.

You can ban hurt, the captain on the left-hand side, talking to David

Goffin. -- Yohan van Herck. If you are number one and your top man

wants to play doubles, you let him play for a while. I agree, the

better of the two Belgians, and he got confidence, even though he lost

that match, he played well, and got much better against Kyle Edmund. His

captain will be seeing, listen, do what you are doing, be aggressive,

Murray will start missing, throw that belief in your player, it will

change. But looking at it, at the moment, there is no way for him to

hurt Andy Murray in this game, but things can change, it is by this

game is so fascinating. We all know that. A couple of minutes between

sets, for a Davis Cup final, in a place like this, make that three,

three and a half, quite narrow walkways, please. People just popped

out and trying to get back in in the allotted two or three minutes. One

thing Goffin has to do is up that first set percentage, at 44% giving

Murray too many second serves to have a go at. If he doesn't go for

the second serve... I know that, but it needs to be up to 60% at least.

People up behind the right-hand shoulder of Goffin, in the eye line

of Andy Murray, just sitting down on the stairs, doing their best to get

out of the way. The Exactly what Jamie Baker was

talking about. Taking the ball on, moving in. He's got so many choices

after that. The court has been swept, which is

what happens on a clay-court between sets.

Goffin needs to start going to the Murray forehand a little bit, open

up the court. First serve is not there at the

moment. Murray just pushing off and trying

to change direction. That is risky but the one he needs

to hit. Murray was outside an extension of

the far tramline. He reads like a book.

Grandparents Shirley and Roy Erskine. Getting some camera time

and enjoying every minute. Why wouldn't you enjoy watching a family

member, both of them in this team? That is a good hold. He was under

the cosh. I did not stay up to watch Tyson Fury last night but that was a

tremendous effort. Lewis Hamilton, underway. Who is going to win sports

personality of the year if Andy Murray carries his team to the first

Davis Cup triumph? Plenty of others in the mix as well but this has

certainly been a fabulous effort. Great weekend for British sport.

The secret to a good drop shot is the spin you put on and the height.

physical workouts you do throughout the year, this is why it is worth

it. Miles back from the baseline. How you get to that and then still

poke that ball down the line... Just a little bit passive in that

rally, Moray. Pushed back pretty deep -- in that rally, Andy Murray.

Not much on those forehands. Soul destroying when that comes back

at you. That was a great game of tennis and

Goffin, you just feel that he needs to win these at the moment to

establish something. Under enormous pressure. He got himself through it.

That was pretty funny, when he wanted his brother back on the

bench. What Andy Murray wants is to look over and see his brother.

Now he breaks the speed record! And he loves to look over and see what

he wants to see. He is a bit nervous at the moment. It is all very well,

but he knows better than any of us, he is trying to get the job done. It

is a Davis Cup final. If he was not nervous he would not be human. He

has not put this bloke away. Not by a long way.

There is a lot of noise in here. You may not know that. I think having

everybody sit down, that is something you need to change with

the players. You don't have perfect conditions when you practice. People

walk around. It is just a fact of the game. You've just got to play.

Improvised well there. The double handed volley from just inside the

baseline. I thought it might be going out, then elected to play it.

Yeah, great old after that 2-1, the third game, lots of tension, lost

when he perhaps should have won, then three big serves, takes charge

of the next service game comfortably, putting the pressure

back when your opponent. Yeah. Every time Goffin comes around mentally,

he realises he is serving again. The premier team event in the world

of tennis, Davis Cup 130 nations involved, 16 in the world group,

each of the teams, Belgium and GB, won three matches to make this

final. The Davis Cup was conceived by four

members of the Harvard University tennis team, commissioned that cup

you can see behind Andy Murray. $1000 it cost out of their own

pockets. Imagine if you had a ticket next to

him! UMPIRE: Belgium leads, three games

to two. This format was designed by Dwight Davis, soon became known as

the Davis Cup, it was the international lawn tennis challenge,

comes at the end of the tennis year, the last major event, I don't count

the Indian Premier League as a major event in terms of importance, but

this is it for the players, just one month or so off, and difficult to

get tickets for this. And in March, Great Britain against Japan in

Birmingham, if you fancy coming along for that. That will be a

tremendous match to see, Nishikori going up against Andy Murray,

Nishikori a world-class player, great to watch. Some great second

players as well. Mouthwatering last day, to see Murray and Nishikori,

that would be spectacular. Andy Murray has committed to that

tie against Japan, but his wife is expecting, the plans may have to be

a little bit fluid. This clay court was laid three weeks

ago, and the sand of off the back of a lorry, a picture was treated, let

the preparations begin! One woman above all others was

responsible for the staging, after what happened in Paris and in

Brussels with the security alerts, Belgium still pursuing those alleged

perpetrators through their own country, to put this on, Justin

Albert, take about. -- just been -- Justine Albert. Once again, Murray,

that advantage you has in this match of getting three points on the

serve, it just makes such a difference when you go up there and

there is a clay court match, tough physically, but once or twice a game

you know you can get three points. Goffin really struggling in that

department. Once again, I still think that

Goffin is playing way too much to the Murray backhand, too much of

these patterns crosscourt, Murray loves that. To his credit, trying to

hit the ball flat. Yes, but needs to go more than the forehand, open up

the court down the line, risky, but not getting many rallies when coming

crosscourt to crosscourt. Very comfortable game there. Love that at

this stage in the match. The same again, Goffin looks up and he is

serving again. Something has to give! You can't go on like that. It

establishes momentum when you hold a quick service game.

Goffin knows what is coming up, this game, this will be a mighty effort

from Andy Murray to put together, could be a match-winning

breakthrough. No. Really, he is building up a head

of steam, Murray. One of the toughest shot in the

game, Murray just played there. He was actually forced a little back as

well as across, so he had to adjust the racket head face, good talent,

wasn't it? Big point here. Great to see Mum and dad here.

Watching their youngest son having a bet of our moorland and wine at the

moment, how about just about everything. -- having a moan and a

whine. Complaining to the linesman. But we are they supposed to go? He

was miles back! Superb from Goffin! Brilliant, from

15-30 down, two excellent points. Comeback Player of the Year last

year on the regular tour. This year a record-breaking number of

matches, high ranking of 14, he is 16 now, the Davis Cup final, doing

himself proud. UMPIRE: New balls, please. Belgium

leads four games to three. Boss class hunching from the side of

the court, Johan van Herck, and not many players to pick from, Belgium,

but actually got a lot more players in the top 250 than we have. Of

course, the talisman for British tennis, Andy Murray, they've got

seven in the top 250, two four from us. Great credit to Captain Leon

Smith, who was working with Andy Murray, from the age of 11, when

Andy Murray was making his way into the game. Back in July 2010, he got

the win, 5-0 over 30. He worked his way up. The match against Belgium,

by the way, was David Goffin's first for Belgium. 2-0 down against Russia

after the singles. Then back up through victory for Andy Murray and

against Croatia. One away last year in the first round against the

United States, James Ward winning that. James Ward winning again this

year against John Isner. UMPIRE: Thank you. That was

unbelievable. The crowd is how important this second set is to put

players. That might be worth a look. The umpire of office chair.

Goffin, excellent work. Just said, save yourself. Outside edge.

UMPIRE: Thank you. After all that noise, 45 seconds

ago, spine tingling stuff in here. Murray two first service, one of

them an ace. He is up to 70%. What you've got to do, brilliant. Goffin

having to work so hard, then Murray at 40-0, three points. He's not

having to work anywhere near as hard on his serve. Wonderful! An absolute

lesson in composure. When you are getting kids ready as a coach, so

many keen and enthusiastic good ones in the country, just look at the

basics, it's always the basics! To get the job done at the very highest

level. Four first serves there. Yeah, what Leon Smith was talking

about. I want you to serve three aces! Whatever he said, it worked.

Note the pressure is back on Goffin, temporarily against the Brit, but

note this is another huge game. Good point. You have to wonder,

Goffin, Murray with the British hopes, but Goffin has done this in

this tie, the emotional side of his match, then playing doubles and

lost, at some stage he will be tired. Then it can set in quicker

than normal when you go down 2-0. That is a very, very late call. And

Goffin, of course, at setting -- accepting Andy Murray calling it

out. UMPIRE: Belgium leads five games to

four. Great effort from David Goffin,

credit where it is due, to have held five times to get to 5-4 up in the

second set, great effort, Murray frustrated, job to do now for Leon

Smith. David Goffin has never taken a set of of Murray. No. -- off

Murray. Tremendous set of tennis, both players' percentage gone up,

board taking advantage, particularly Goffin, trying to get Murray on the

back foot more than in the first set. Some has paid off, some

hasn't, but taking chances and got that game ahead, magnificent job

holding onto his serve. Doubles coach saw the Murray s' win

yesterday, but this is hard to serve after.

That was so good. He had no choice, Murray, had to go for the big

forehand, he was dying here if you had not made that, he just belted

that one. Not any chance for Goffin to direct that down the line, superb

shot. Big, big point this was. This crowd is just spectacular. The

noise is just every point, it's unbelievable!

One hour to get to 5-5, this second set, absolutely all on the line for

Goffin. If he doesn't win this set, he has to be a corner! He has to

know that. I don't know the physicality, how he can last, almost

two hours and not finished two sets yet, unbelievable, every point is an

insurance factor. -- in June and is -- endurance. That went a bit close

to the line. That first serve wasn't there in the first set, made a big

difference to his percentage. Oh! Will he regret that. That could

be the turning point. That was so casual. And the right technique,

trying to cut the margin is so tight, because he knows hike wake

Andy Murray is. He had about five options there. -- he knows how quick

Andy Murray is. That could be the turning point, he needs a big serve

to read in his composure a little. -- reading his composure.

You have to admire the way he's taking the ball on this set. He is

taking a lot of Andy Murray's top-spin shots and getting right on

the rise. Murray needs to know that he might

slow it down. I cannot see him slowing it down.

That was a good second serve. Just did not give him the chance to

pervert and get away from the ball. Anxious return. Trying to get the

job done. Trying to get over the line.

It is a heavy hit from Murray, and he's got himself a break point.

You look at that point for 30-0. He won the next point. Would have been

40-0. Absolutely right. That was a massive mistake. Amazing, the simple

margins. This could be the match. Those small things. I would maintain

that Andy Murray's court speed was one of the reasons he tried to cut

those margins. The iMac that is what the top players do to your

opponents. You get out of your car -- comfort zone. He needed to hit

that's so fine. A word on the effort of Andy Murray. There was no way he

was going anywhere in that rally. He is one of the elite group.

Might be a moment to begin this game.

That's a surprising shot there. He needs his first serve. He's been

getting some three points. What a serve. It looked like that

ball toss is a bit short. Three big serves in a row. That's

what it's all about. Coming up with the right shot at the right time.

termination, that set. Not easy. One more set to go. Jamie Baker is

courtside. What is it like just now? It is ridiculous, such a high-level

match, both guys playing phenomenally well. Goffin has barely

missed a shot and he finds himself 2-0 down. I'm sorry to say that

we've lost Jamie Murray courtside and Jamie Baker but he's just

talking about the atmosphere and the standard and I'm talking about the

history that Andy Murray and his Great Britain team have two be made.

They are not the first brothers from Great Britain to be in a Davis Cup

final. I am sitting with one of the brothers, David Lloyd and John Lloyd

together. Pretty special. Your father was your tennis inspiration,

he must have been so proud. That was a good occasion but this is way

above. We look like we are going to win this no. Let's pop downstairs.

What is it like watching him deal with these situations so

impressively? Difficult. He is playing so well, such a good

occasion for him. He has made so much effort to get into the team at

this point and he has been amazing, such an incredible level of tennis.

I don't know how Goffin is going to come back. He has put so much into

the set but has nothing to show for it. Hopefully Andy can keep up the

level he is at and win one more set and win the tie. He wanted you back

on the bench, was that superstition? I stood there for two points, I was

getting... I don't know! I did not know he was indicating the, and all

of a sudden, and the little -- Andy was taking me back. Did you have any

scraps with your brother on court? You'll I had a few! Jamie took it

well, though. If helps him get the victory...

Big service game for Goffin, he needs to hold this game after the

disappointment of losing that second set. Murray's job is to take hold of

this match and take him out right away in this third set.

What a pint! -- point. That was gutsy stroking the ball, refusing to

let go. That really is tremendous effort

from the Belgian. Saving break points in the fashion

he did. Five set matches have ebbs and

flows. Both players are bound to be riding high on the intensity of that

second set. This man has reacted well. He has come out of here

extremely aggressive. He is taking the ball on right away in these

rallies. Any chance he gets, he is going for it.

At first break for the Belgian number one! Could be a long way to

go. You have to give them a lot of credit. Came back, played a fabulous

game, then breaks into the first time. Even if he is tired, the crowd

is not letting him be tired. Confirming that is just a first

warning to the captain. That conversation has carried on whilst

Goffin is serving. This is one of the shortest second

serves he has hit. Has not been used today, the drop

shot, March. Expected it a lot more from both players. It is risky, both

players are quick. That is just outstanding. So far

back was he when he hit that? Way back and way out of court. You would

expect to win the point. The captain made difficult calls, he

brought Dan Evans in instead of Kyle Edmonds, he has brought Andy Murray

in and made him want to be a part of this team and commit like no other

player. He said he was an average player so he thought he would take

up coaching. He has done a great job. You're never going to stick at

the back of the court against Andy Murray and get any real return.

Andy and Jamie Murray played a really magnificent doubles.

UMPIRE: Take your seat quickly, please. Two hours and 21 minutes of

playing. Add a few minutes for the warm up and peripherals, a long day

for everybody. It is a long way away from the

umpire there. Don't step on the mark. He wants to point out the mark

that he thinks it is. He thinks that Pascal Maria has identified the

wrong mark. Let's have a look. It looks long on the long line. Think

he had the trademark? -- right Mark? So what has he said?

SOME BOOING well, whatever he decides, he is getting booed. It is

a tough atmosphere to play and coach them. A tennis ball in the pocket

there. I assume this is just a let. First serve.

Well, that was as serve with work in it, pushed the ball through the

court there, muscular delivery, three or four times on second

serves, after disputes, that is when you want to win a point, after there

is then a scrap -- there has been a scrap.

UMPIRE: New bowls, please. -- balls. Low point for Andy Murray after

responding in such dramatic fashion, but back on level terms. At two

games all. Andy Murray is beginning to have that expression of

exhaustion and effort that we saw when he played at Queen's just one

week after Wimbledon when he had to dig as much as I can ever remember

him ever having to dig. When he had to play Gilles Simon. 2.5 hours and

only two sets in! Even for Andy there, the spring in

the legs was just a lot of of, not getting the energy to get that one

back. -- a little off. Set up by a very good serve. In the

corner. Once again getting that ball, hitting it on the rise, really

being aggressive. UMPIRE: Game Belgium. Belgium leads

three games to two. CHEERING Great effort from David Goffin, not to go

away here, looking lost when he won that second set, his father is a

tennis coach, involved in physical education, great athlete showing his

spirit. He trains in Mons with the Federation, came up the ranks,

adding a bit of beef to his game and muscle to his body. This year he

finishes at number 16, which is a career-high year end for him. This

will surely be one of the greatest experiences of his life, taking his

team to the Davis Cup final, unbeaten this year and still thinks

he can win this match. Absolutely, putting in a tremendous effort, the

quality of tennis has been superb, so close in that second set, but did

not let that bother him, and thought maybe there could be a wobble but

then played a superb game to hold his serve. Look at that poor promo

girl, told to smile when ever she is on camera. Wonderful staging here,

just a celebration of the sport, the tennis world will reconvene in

Australia in January for the first Grand Slams, not far away! With the

World Tour Finals staying in London until 2018, closing just last Sunday

with another victory, fourth in a row for Novak Djokovic, what a

wonderful month November has become for tennis, that's for sure.

That was a point he didn't look like winning. Always defending there, but

interesting change of pace with the slice backhand, don't see that very

often from Goffin, it made Murray lose his rhythm on the backhand,

created an error. CHEERING Tremendous racket head work

they are from Goffin, looked like he was handcuffed, Murray tries to

finish it, does not get the angle, but good reflex volley, maybe

because of all the doubles practice you got yesterday. -- he got.

That is so good, though. The reliable serve on big points when he

is down, time and time again. First and second. Benefited from heavy

work on the second serve as well. I do not have the statistics in front

of me for 30-30 points, but he has won his fair share.

Just so aggressive. Just taking chances. Power tennis. The first

one, the depth, just right for that one across court, the angle superb.

Well under 6-foot, no lightweight, 11.5 stone, his timing is

unbelievable. He has gone there a lot on big

serves, Murray, on the middle down the outside. His normal percentage

is out wide to the backhand but this was obviously tactical. The backhand

return from Goffin is way better, the liable. -- reliable. There it is

again. UMPIRE: Advantage Great Britain. 200K on a clay court after

2.40 hours, that is impressive. Up to 126-130 miles an hour

consistently when he wants it. Game Great Britain.

It has been a great year on clay for Andy Murray, seminal if --

semifinalist at the French Open. He won his first two clay court titles

in Munich and Madrid. He beat Nadal in front of his own adoring fans.

World number two. None of which matters at all at this point. He

just wants to beat Goffin. Great return. That second serve,

Murray pushing himself forward, forcing his legs to move, get to

that quickly. Getting that ball on the rise.

UMPIRE: Game Great Britain. Andy Murray ahead, in the third set of

this Davis Cup final. Two games from bringing the trophy to Great Britain

for the first time. First time since before the Second World War, such as

the sporting history he is trying to make. He has done this sort of

things before, honestly, winning the US Open, Wimbledon, Olympic gold.

And she deserves a huge amount of credit, and so does the man to her

right. Honestly, two fabulous young men and such high performers, the

Murrays, I don't know how you rank it in terms of team effort.

Liverpool in the Champions League, the Ryder Cup teams for Europe over

time, it is right up there to win the Davis Cup in our sport. Yeah, it

is our team event. We would love to be champions of the world. And I

think, of all the people over the years, all the volunteers, coaches,

people back in GB, wanting to say hello to Martyn Hall the, my

organiser, -- Margaret, she is getting well in hospital. So many

lovely clubs up and down the place. They deserve credit. Because the

boss here is closing in. In the last two games, it looked

like Goffin got to get late, then pushing it out wide, not on top of

the ball. That one, totally in the right position, got on top of that

one, crushed it away. He's not done yet!

Just a little late there, Murray. Understandably so.

UMPIRE: Merci. Goes to that forehand, almost every

big serve, did it again. That is just too good. That one was

totally unexpected, a bit of disbelief from Murray when this went

past him, good length, in the point no problem, goes behind him and

Murray couldn't believe that shot. Outstanding! He is running on fumes,

isn't he? He is getting nervous!

UMPIRE: Advantage Great Britain. The media getting into position, the

moral that Murray had the big serve. Yes! Closing in, taking another

step. Another step to claiming the Davis Cup for Great Britain! --

murmur. In the fourth match of the tie against Australia in 1936, they

had a chance, but couldn't get the job done. Fred Perry, Jack Crawford,

these are the names we are talking about, and Andy Murray, alongside

his team-mates, right on the brink of their own piece of sporting

history. So much of Andy Murray's wiki dedicated to putting himself

into position, to close it out, and here we are, one game away.

Down one break in this set, Murray. Three points away.

Hold on... He wanted that one so badly. Did not follow through

enough. Great Britain have done it! In the

most spectacular style! Andy Murray, unbeaten in Davis Cup! More sporting

history. Hold on, lads. What a point to finish! Unreal I'm glad he went

to find the captain. After everything that has happened in this

part of the world in the last few weeks, it is right to remember this

is just sport, and absolute appreciation from fellow

professionals involved in the game. You know what? He was great this

year. I love that he did this before the celebration. Now the real

celebration. He might even have a glass of champagne later on! The

news from Belgium is that the Davis Cup is on its way back, it has not

been in our properties since prewar. Congratulations to Leon Smith. The

stringers, the physios, the trainers... No surprise that Kim is

overjoyed. I'm glad the excitement is over for her. James Ward, a

magnificent victory over John Isner all the way back in the first round.

Jamie, layer. Older brother. He played a huge part in this victory.

Absolutely staggering. They combined well on the court. Look at the

emotions. McEnroe went unbeaten one year. 11 in a row in Davis Cup is

pretty staggering, when you think back to the Simon match at Queen's,

the match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, all good. The match against

Australia. It is one of the hardest things to do in our sport, winning

three matches in a Davis Cup tie. He's had to do it three times.

I'm glad we are seeing what lies beneath the greatest player we've

had. How proud, and what a moment for any parent. He will spread this

success, broadcast the message that tennis is great fun, it is a game

for life, for boys and girls and every class and income across the

country. If you've got the Davis Cup on the back of a truck, take it

round and show it off, it was hard-won.

What a result that is, as Andy Murray add his name to another

chapter of tennis history. Superhuman effort to come through

undefeated in both singles and doubles. If you want to know what it

means to him, what a last point it was, we were hoping he would finish

it in style. Such a huge moment for British tennis.

Let's hear from Leon Smith. What does it mean to you? You can say it

again! It is amazing. As good feeling as could possibly imagine.

Andy has shown himself to be an absolute superstar. He will be the

first to say it is a team thing but what he has done has been

astonishing. Even though it was straight sets, that was a brutal

match and he rose to the occasion. The teamwork has been a massive

thing since you came into the team. Put into perspective what everybody

else has done behind the scenes. It is so much work. So many people

don't get credit, the players are there but there are so many people

behind, the Stringer, who has done 350 rackets, the physio, a really

work hard. Every player has played a part. I think we've got Andy going

to come in now. Andy, Great Britain are Davis Cup champions. How does it

feel? It feels amazing. I never thought we would have the

opportunity to do this and I cannot believe how good it is. An

unbelievably tough year. Some big matches that we won. Everyone who

has played has played at an unbelievably high level. We had

chances in almost every single match we have played. I can believe we did

it. How about being out here with your brother and playing such a big

part, all the family are here, are you aware of that? You are aware of

it. It is important over a weekend like this to conserve your energy.

After the doubles my brother spent a long time with my family, I felt

rude but I had to go to sleep, get some rest because I knew today was

going to be extremely tough. Very physical match, but I get to see

everyone tonight and I cannot wait. At the start of the second set were

you trying to get Jamie to come back to the court? He was right in the

corner and I could see him out of my eye line. When you know your family

is there, I tried to avoid eye contact with Jamie during the

matches, because you can see when they are stressed, because you know

them better than the other players. You have got some big titles in your

time but that match point, could you have thought of a better way to win

the Davis Cup? Everybody was saying you could not do it because the roof

was too low here. It was great I managed to do it because we played a

couple of long points and it was a nice 1-2 finish on! What happens

now? Who will be leading the celebrations? I will try to keep

Matt Little under control but I imagine everybody will be on fire.

We've got to enjoy this because we may never get an opportunity to do

this again as a team. We should celebrate tonight. Finally,

Wimbledon, Olympic gold, US Open, Davis Cup, where do you go from

here? Australian Open is next, that is one I have lost in the final four

times. I need to learn a few things from this weekend, and how I handled

everything, my attitude towards every single point. It is very

difficult, I made it difficult for David, I made him work for every

point. I will try to do that in Australia. But I will enjoy this.

You've got the small matter of becoming a father. In February. I've

got that to look forward to. It's going to be a great few months. Big

changes in my life but I'm looking forward to it. Thank you, Andy.

Enjoy it. A very emotional Andy Murray putting

it into perspective. What an amazing record he has. It started with the

Olympic gold medal, then the US Open, then Wimbledon champion and

now, as part of a team, winning the Davis Cup. This is what he has

wanted this year, to make a little bit more history. All of the team

playing Bearpark. Jamie Murray, so many important doubles matches. Very

tough one yesterday. That is what it means to Andy Murray. The dream has

come true. Wonderful performance from all of the team here. Let's not

forget James Ward, who played his part, beating John Isner. Kyle

Edmund, who made his impressive debut here. Obviously disappointing

on Friday but this surely overshadows everything? Absolutely.

Watching that today was so good. Playing Friday and Saturday,

obviously that is very tiring, he put in a huge effort today. We just

won the Davis Cup, it is pretty unreal. Even for you, pretty strong

doubles team, a couple of years ago could we imagine this? Like you

said, that is the thing. Thinking about where we were five years ago,

the journey started there and it is almost like we have won the

competition, it has taken a lot of hard work. I played one match in the

final but lots of other players have played their part and they deserve

recognition. How can you use this experience to push on? You've had a

great year this year. It has been pretty good for me. It has been the

best year of my career. The atmosphere, the whole experience, it

is nothing like I've ever imagined. I will use it and learn from the

match and build on it. Thank you. That is the trophy, that is what it

is all about. So much history involved, so many of the big names

have added their names. Rafael Nadal has won it, Novak Djokovic, Roger

Federer, and Andy Murray wanted to add a Great Britain's name. And it

will go on that magnificent trophy once again after 79 years. John

Lloyd is with me. You cannot underestimate the enormity of what

these players have done. It is the most amazing achievement, and when

you think about where we were and where we are now, champions of the

world, and Andy Murray, the performance was staggering, this

atmosphere, going up against this crowd, winning three sets against

the player who was absolutely brilliant today, David Goffin,

hopefully we will use this. We are the cup holder. We need to inspire

more players. The important thing is to make it

happen, go forward, get the kids involved in schools, in clubs, get

Park tennis back again, really get them inspired by the likes of Andy

Murray and Leon Smith has a good team, James Ward, Kyle Edmund,

impressive debut here, so there is a future for the team. Absolutely, our

world-class doubles team, even if Andy doesn't play, we have several

other players, the basis of a good team. Great team if Andy plays, but

still at solid team if he doesn't. Kyle Edmund will have seen what and

the dead. He is thinking, I got tired in my first match, Andy Murray

in his third match still running down balls like a greyhound! -- seen

what they did. And I wondered how the clay court would have been for

the final, but it has made the match is spectacular! Absolutely, the

doubles were outstanding, and with Andy Murray and David Goffin, the

cat and mouse to make winners and the physicality was just awesome! I

was shocked at the standard. The Davis Cup final, played out there

with no nervousness, just that dredging tennis, -- gut wrenching

tenants, great pleasure to watch a match like that. Wonderful seeing

the fans, and Andy Murray has given them so much to cheer about, really

difficult opponent in David Goffin, giving his all, we should salute

him. Absolutely, never went away after losing that second set,

refused to give this up, but that was one of the best points we have

seen, and they knew he had the match, staggering performance from

both players, outstanding tennis. He makes you work so hard, the angles,

he toys with you, the drop shot, overhead, you have to work so hard

with Andy Murray. You do not get any freebies. Goffin thinking, I should

have won that point, but didn't. How to beat him? It takes someone like

Novak Djokovic, the only one who seems to these days. I could watch

this point again and again and again, absolutely amazing.

ANDREW CASTLE: This is a historic point for British tennis. Murray is

out of shot, virtually, then when it went there, I thought he was going

to do it. What a driving force for the game. Please, let's absolutely

nail this! This guy has taken us to the World Championship, let's learn

from this, take the game out and be proud. So many difficulties over the

years, we talk about the problems, but that wonderful moment.

It is official, we have won the Davis Cup. What are we to finish it,

looking at the year, what James Ward did against John Isner. Andy Murray

the leader but everyone has played their part, and he would see that.

Without the right team you will not get the best out of everybody, so

well done to Leon Smith, the glue is Andy Murray, you know you will get

two or three match wins, but James Ward did well. Everybody has played

their part. That is the real lesson. The next Andy Murray might

be some time away, so let's just revel in watching his tennis,

showing his character and nice to see the appreciation of the sport at

his appreciation to the opposition. Look at this the Dwight Davies

Trophy commissioned in 1899, and it is ours! The most beautiful trophy,

certainly in tennis. It is lovely, all about the history of it. You

have both played the Davis Cup and know what it means to all of the

players around the world, the World Cup of fairness. Tennis is by and

large are selfish sport, you are on your own, even with the entourage,

but playing for yourself. This is team competition. We grew up playing

with local clubs, and to play with the guys you are friends with, in

front of this sort of crowd, maybe only in Davis Cup or US Open boss

Julian cup with this type of atmosphere. And -- Australian cup.

And when you hear game Great Britain, it is not just about you.

And you can feel like you are letting your team down. Andy Murray

in the second set was serving second of all time, coming out the whole

time to the most enormous noise. Including the song Sweet Caroline.

It is about experience and the finished product and Andy is at has

done the work. We will take that trophy out to every club run by good

well-meaning people, giving their time freely and willingly, bringing

humility is together. -- bringing their communities together. These

should go to every club over the next 12 months until we have to give

it back. Absolutely, and the crowd playing their part, Andy Murray

would like this at this fear for every match, he drives in it.

Absolutely, even if the crowd is against him, he loves it. -- Andy

Murray would like this atmosphere. It is wonderful, they absolutely

love this, supporting the team wherever we have gone. In some

places that have not been great to be honest, but following us

everywhere, there are support has never wavered. And nice that

everyone stayed in their seats. The Belgian fans will cheer the British

team collecting the trophy. But how emotional it was for Andy to win it

in style, winning the Davis Cup for Great Britain, all about teamwork,

about pride and passion. He has it all, doesn't he? . He does, as

stubborn and talented competitor. And the organisers, under difficult

circumstances, it is a huge success, coming to an end in style, not easy

after Paris. It was difficult arriving here. Sport has triumphed

once again. Hasn't it? CHEERING This is the closing

ceremony, everyone has stayed in their seats, huge ovation for the

Belgian team, and even bigger one for Great Britain.

In some ways, I hit to ask you this, but you know what get feels like to

lose a Davis Cup, John. I wish I knew. But what a performance from

the Belgian team. They were not expecting to win or be in the final.

All credit to them. And such a wonderful way right the way through

to the final. Great Britain! CHEERING

-- this is the moment. Watching out as Davis Cup champions, a long hard

road. ANDREW CASTLE: The have had to give

time and effort, and sometimes in sport you reach that the ward --

reap the reward, and these are the moments of success you get. The last

match of the year for Andy Murray, one E and everyone in British tennis

will remember, magnificent effort for him and for the British team. A

proud moment for British tennis. Please welcome the President of the

Wonderful moment for her. The person that has to build on from here.

First of all, the officials awarded, all playing their part in

this Davis Cup final. It has been a lovely final, everywhere

behind-the-scenes, put on so well and although the crowd got a little

bit tetchy to date, it has been played in a really nice manner,

Andy. Yes, rather trigger-happy on the old air forums, but settled in

nicely. Not easy to umpire and referee these situations, passions

run high, everyone wrapped up in their national flag, you can forget

yourself quickly. And difficult, John, when you don't want to lose

the atmosphere of the Davis Cup final but abide by the rules. You

can lose the point or game if you are not careful. Absolutely.

Here, for Britain, Dom, played that wonderful doubles match with Jamie

Murray, that was memorable in Glasgow, Dan Evans playing against

Australia as well. The finalists will now be presented

with their medals and trophies. It all gets underway again in

March, the first week in March, when Great Britain will take on Japan and

China Security, what a wonderful match that will be, -- and

Nishikori. Let us salute these Belgian players who have played

their part, Steve Darcis, David Goffin, world number 16, came back

against Kyle Adnan, after two sets down, giving his old today but just

too good for Andy Murray. -- Kyle Edmund. Hell of an effort. Lovely

trophies for the runners up. Now to see what Britain have.

but what an effort, Andy Murray has been the leader of this team, and

Eden in singles and doubles, and hopefully Kyle Edmund learning so

The team event, it is so important, and we talk about the players so

much, but so many people behind the scenes. But here we go. We will see

look at this man, still wants to play for many years, still driven,

wants to make records and more history.

other. You learn a lot from being around the likes of Andy Murray and

how he goes about his business. For Kyle Edmonds to see how intense Andy

was, ego on every point. That is the kind of work ethic he has to have,.

Not really prepared for this. Cannot believe this is happening.

First of all, I want to thank all of the players for an unbelievable

effort. Not just this year but ended years that have led to this moment,

Unbelievable scenes. You know how the team building and bonding that

goes on, it is a very tight team. That is one of the main reasons that

Andy has wanted to commit himself to play. He is an ambitious guy, wanted

to win the Davis Cup, 11 wins this year, undefeated in their love the

way that finished, his favourite shot. The team will have a few

official photographs, but what an ending, what a closing ceremony.

It is quite hectic down here, we getting pushed and pulled around! I

made the mistake of going on the court and I'm not allowed. Pirating

-- pyrotechnics and everything done, we would miss you! You don't get the

field in the studio how close the fans are, it has been amazing. It

really has, it just goes to show what you have to do and how strong

you have to be as a character to come out here and fight an opponent

off those world-class and 13,000 other people. Maybe 10,000 because

there were a lot of Brits on year. Wonderful show and a fitting end to

a grand competition. This year, 130 nations were in it and we won! World

champions, how does that sound? Talk about the atmosphere being

amazing, it is getting pretty warm down here as well with all the

pyrotechnics. They put on such a fabulous show and it is now so

important that we build, we talked about the legacy that will come from

this victory. We might allow ourselves on our two nights of

celebration, the team well but this is an opportunity that cannot be
